help is here!.......2003-06-08
This book SAVED ME!!!! i am a BIG myst etc. fan. I think the puzzles in exile are harder than in riven or myst, so i was STUCK IN J'NANIN!!!! luckily, my dad bought this book! so I was saved. it's actually a very interesting book to read, weather you're on exile or not.
walk throughs ruin the game.......2003-04-26
My kids and I had to rely once or twice on cheats. The puzzles are not so hard - but there are some problems with not doing things in the "right" order in Exile. Online free sites provided the answers. The walkthroughs, like the one in this book, are empty and utterly spoil the game. Don't buy this book.
Help! Not just anybody..............2002-10-12

Prima's guide to MYST: URU; an informative review........2006-07-05
As a long time explorer in the MYST universe, I am very familiar with its mythos and conventions, and therefore any product which deals with these comes under close examination for validity and usefulness. I am glad to report that as they so often do, PRIMA has gotten it right in their guide to MYST: URU. The guide serves two purposes, firstly to aid you in solving the game's puzzles if (and when) you get stuck, and secondly to enhance the players gaming experience with its artwork, hints and extra information both about the game and its creators, Cyan.
The 'explorers aid' sections are divided between a fast walkthrough, giving the most direct path from beginning to end, and also a more immersive 'narrated' walkthrough giving softer hints for solving the puzzles and helping to creatively visualise the exploration experience. Both are useful, the former if you want only to complete the game and see all its 'puzzle secrets' revealed, and latter if you prefer to truly immerse yourself in discovering the 'artistic secrets' and exploring the ancient cultures and histories created by Cyan. This second portion is written from the point of view of a fictional explorer who has walked the paths of URU before you, and has left journals of their travels. Therefore the solutions to puzzles are revealed gradually, allowing players to read only so far and (hopefully!) solve the rest of each puzzle themselves.
Also included in the guide is a substantial colour section on the origins of Cyan, the MYST series and how URU came to be. If you are interested in how the Miller brothers began this epic saga in the very beginning, or in the various fascinating techniques involved in producing a game like URU, then this section has some amazing personal interviews and historical information about Cyan and its employees which kept me reading until I had finished it; I couldnt put it down! In fact, this was the first part of the guide I read, and I think for many MYST fans, the most interesting.
However, whether you are a diehard fan of the series, or if URU is your first foray into the universe of MYST, PRIMA's guide is an invaluable resource, both for its in-game assistance, and for its mind-expanding art and factual information. Enjoy!
URU Complete Chronicles Review.......2006-01-30
It is a little tough to give a complete review for I just started the game. So far the guide has been helpful when I got stuck.
Uru a bust for me.......2005-09-07
Unfortunately because of a particular chip on my Intel video card this game will not operate on my computer. Ubisoft says that Intel updated their drivers and the chip will no longer allow the game to play.

walkthrough for Myst IV: Revelation.......2007-05-18
Great to have helps the story to read with the game. Enjoy, The Larghe's
Another good Guide.......2005-10-04
I have used Prima Official Game Guide for all my Myst adventures. This one is taking me though the adventure without a hitch, so far. I am about 2/3 though. I like to play the game while reading the guide. Its more like the game is a high quality support for the guide. I don't like to spend too much time exploring on my own and spending hours on puzzles. I like the story, not the play. If there was no Prima Guide, I would never have finished Myst. I have however experienced and enjoyed them all and have ordered the final one.
Game playing Revelation.......2005-09-07
This game was exciting and interesting at every turn. The graphics are interesting and beautiful. The puzzles are challenging. The characters are well fleshed out and interesting.
The only fly in the ointment is the several puzzles that require dexterity to get through. The problem solving in the Myst universe has never required such a level of expertise in timing and placement before. . . just find the answer and go has been the solution in the past.
Myst IV Revelation.......2005-09-04
I found the guide very helpful in getting me past the places where I was stuck.
Buy the game, not the guide........2004-11-28
While Myst IV: Revelation is another beautiful, great game in the Myst series, this guidebook is not so great. If you are playing a game that relies heavily on difficult puzzles, then you need a good guide - however, this one is full of errors. It took me hours to figure out why I couldn't get past some puzzles after following the guide, only to realize it had given me the incorrect information in order to solve them. It would be better to find an online guide or walkthrough, instead.
Please, don't judge a game by its guide!

Absolutly mind saving!.......1998-07-01
Rick Barba and Rusel DeMaria have done a fantastic job of fictionalising all their game secrets in a long walk through of the Myst world without giving everything away! This book even has a quick guid for the impatient player. This book will save you from wasting precious moments in front of the screen!!
Best Bet if you want to enjoy Myst........1997-11-15
Thsi is the best book you could buy if you want to solve Myst and still enjoy it after. The first section gives vague hints and a complete walk-through of the game, pointing out the cool details of the game. The second part has a quick-guide for anyone who's in a hurry. The last part of the book contains an exclusive interview with the makers of Myst. Myst was a game ment to be enjoyed, not a puzzle ment to be conquered. All the other guides just tell you the facts, not really appreciating Myst for all it's beauty and glory. This is the ONLY way to go if you want to get your money's worth out of Myst.

Walkthrough for Riven.......2007-05-17
Another good book to have if into older games and need some help. The Myst games are great for all ages and the whole family can enjoy them. Great if one does the controls and another does the reading, it really makes these games a lot more fun to enjoy. The Larghe's
Too much help when I needed hints.......2001-08-03
This is a great book, if you are too lazy to even walk around in Riven. I had completed everything, except for 2 of the last 3 puzzles, and all I wanted was a couple of general hints to point me in the right direction. Instead, the first half of the book, which is supposed to do just that, was more of a smoothed out walk through - not every step, but it pushed you through the whole game and revealed all of the secrets and solutions. The real walkthrough in the back is basically the same thing, just bulleted and put into command sentences. Don't buy this book if you want to take your time and figure things out on your own. If you just want to beat the game quickly, with no respect for the beauty of the programming and the story, this will do fine.
On the brighter side, after I bought this and read it, I stopped hitting my head, solved the puzzles again for myself, and finished the game in 2 hours. I would still be playing around in the ceremonial chamber and with the marble puzzle if I didn't get this book. I missed the small things, which made so much difference, and I couldn't make the connections, which is what this is all about. Please, try Riven on your own first, and if you are really stuck (I mean really), then get this book. It will alleviate your headache.
Best Book.......2000-06-11
This is the best book. It is a lot like the Myst srategy guide.
DON'T BANG YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE WALL, THE ANSWERS ARE HERE!.......2000-03-29
I fell in love with the game Riven right from the start. I had not played very many computer games before this, and had never played Myst, so therefore, Riven turned out to be a bit difficult for me. Just when I had solved a fairly easy section I would hit an impasse and thought I'd maybe end up banging my head against the table. I was hopelessly stuck at a point in the game when I came across this book - a blessing I thought! It's actually more of a curse due to the fact that the book makes it much too tempting and easy to cheat. There is nothing as thrilling as finally breaking the code, solving the mystery, and finding the answer to the great puzzle - the book eventually gives you all the answers and thus spoils the fun. I for one will NOT buy this "cheat sheet" type of book again, however, I highly recommend it to those individuals who get a thrill out of cheating!
Not Just a 'Go Here and Do This' Book.......2000-03-29
This book not only gives you the answers that you've been struggling for, but it also tells you why the answer is what it is as we follow the author in an interesting and easy to read story. I found myself on several occasions saying, "Oh yeah. I noticed that too, but I never knew what it meant." Even reading about the many answers I was able to solve on my own was enjoyable.

URU Ages Beyond Myst.......2004-05-26
Not too clear. Prefer the way it was done in Myst. Beware! if you download URU updates, this book becomes obsolete. Correct me if I'm wrong PLEASE!!!
Official Travel Guide.......2003-11-22
I got my Prima Official Travel Guide today. It's the Uru: Ages Beyond Myst strategy guide, but it's written as a sort of travel journal by a "former" writer of game guides whose life has changed dramatically following his experience.
It's written with a good knowledge of the game and its history, and has a good synopsis of the background, which will make a novice to the series appreciate Uru all the more. The style is pleasantly witty. Even the forward from the editor, and the "advertisement" paid for by the DRC at the back of the book, are in character and amusing.
The book has tons of game information. It contains the text of all the notebooks, journals, and letters in the game. There are many snapshots that look like Polaroid pictures taped or paperclipped into the book. The text is in a handwriting font that isn't too hard to read. Of course, there are also maps, and descriptions and pictures of how to do all the puzzles.
In my opinion, it's a real shame that the entire interior of the book is done in black and white. That's the only fault I find with it. If it were all done in color, it would awesome! I'd certainly be willing to pay more for a full color edition!

The perfect companion volume for Riven: The Sequel to Myst, Official Riven Hints and Solutions allows you to easily look for only as much help as you desire or need. Since the excitement of Riven (as with Myst) comes from solving the puzzles and riddles on your own and discovering what comes next at your pace, many readers will only want the tiniest of hints to help them out.
The first portion of the book is devoted solely to these kinds of helpful hints. The hints increase in suggestiveness the further you go, so that if one clue doesn't do the trick, another might. The next section has more concrete advice, maps, and a few strong pushes in the right direction. It still falls short of total disclosure, which will preserve some sense of mystery and discovery. The final portion of the book has complete, unabridged solutions and answers if you just can't bear the frustration of the Gate Room any longer and want to get going again. For the die-hard fan, there's even a narrative-style walk-through of the entire game that fits into the storyline of the Myst novels. Perfectly suited to its subject and designed only to deliver what you require at any particular juncture, Official Riven Hints and Solutions is the way game guides should be.

Too vital! You gotta have this book!.......2001-11-05
Riven was a super challenge and I hate cheating. This book was so awesome because it gave you ONLY the help you wanted when(if) you get to the point that you get really stuck. It is well divided so you don't see clues/info that would give away something that you didn't want to know. These people should get hired to write solution books for all the top games! It keeps you from being tempted to cheat because it is so well written & laid out. A true asset to the game of Riven! Honest!!
Pretty good but lacking some crucial info.......1999-06-13
I liked the pictures and the walkthrough and all the other things in the game, but in some real important places it "failed me". I couldn't understand how it meant to enter the number into the domes or the star fissure portal and had to figure it out myself.
Mark In Riven.......1999-04-06
I couldn't of done better without it.The book makes you witness stuning graphics and exelent sound.Riven fans that cannot get anywhere without this book, this one is for you.
Very Helpful and Useful (Most of the Time).......1999-02-20
I liked the format of the book, with different chapters that gave either subtle hints or full solutions. It says right at the beginning of a chapter what type of hints are in the chapter. The only chapter I was dissapointed in was the "Journal" walkthrough chapter. In the Myst Strategy Guide, it had headings over each section, so if you only wanted help on a certain puzzle, it was easy to get it. The Riven book doesn't have headings, so when you glance through, looking for the right place, you see the solutions to other puzzles you don't want help on. Other than this, it's a great book.
complicaded.......1998-05-13
It's a complicated book and it forces you to follow a line of order and one of the advantages of this game is that you can make your story

The End to Myst Frustration.......2002-01-30
Sometimes you get really stuck on a game. You've tried everything, and you are getting so frustrated that the game is no longer enjoyable.
Other times, you're the resident expert on a game, but friends keep pestering you with questions which begin "How do you get past the...?"
This book is the answer to those problems - at least as they relate to the game Myst. Clear and concise, it gets you past the place where you're stuck and lets you go on enjoying the game.
