Book Description

What causes a person to become involved in Satanism? How should Christians respond to the real threats of cults and the occult?

As E. James Wilder explains, the Bible teaches that we are all part of two communities, one natural and one spiritual. The natural community is made up of our families, friends, work, and culture, while the spiritual community revolves around God or Satan. When Christians and the Christian community fail to give people proper love and support, the door is opened for cults and the occult to provide for these human needs. This practical, comprehensive book shows how changes in the spiritual world that began with the first Christmas give Christians the power to affect both the spiritual and natural world.

Upbeat and nonsensational, The Red Dragon Cast Down will encourage those seeking answers. This powerful tool for those with cult or occult backgrounds, ministry and prayer teams, church communities, and parents is the only book that approaches restoration from evil using a community-based counseling perspective.

5 out of 5 stars Helping The Most Severely Abused.......2006-11-28

As a survivor of SRA/MC, I believe that every pastor or church leader, as well as anyone interested in counseling or prayer ministry should read this book. It was difficult for me, personally, because the vision that Dr. Wilder has of churches coming together to form communities of "spiritual adoption" is very hard to put together. Its a subject that understandably makes one uncomfortable, but as followers of Jesus, we aren't called to comfort, we are called to service. What higher calling, than to help those who live in the greatest darkness and horror imaginable. Dr. Wilder's descriptions of different kind of bonds people form was helpful to me, in understanding my own relational problems. His testimony about how he and his wife were affected by his ministry is essential knowledge for anyone to learn from who desires to minister to survivors with this background. My only complaint is that the population he describes as coming out of the occult seem to be those who got into it by choice. He talked a lot about why people get into and stay in the occult, which is good; but said little about those of us coming out of transgenerational Satanism/Luciferianism, and the unique problems that come with helping someone who is programmed/mind controlled. I would be grateful to Dr. Wilder if he would write a book for survivors of this type, who in the realistic world we live in presently where we have little help and support, need to know how to get out and get healed. I'm waiting anxiously...

1 out of 5 stars castles made of sand,,christianity is dead........2003-03-08

i actually think christ had some good ideas when he was alive,,too bad that over the centuries everything got warped into a system to control large populations in social systems. however what aggrivates me the most is people like the author of this book taking advantage of societies neurotic programming to make a buck. Most unfortunatly, in cases of alleged satanic abuse, it is usually the patients own fantasies that the shrink who works in this particular field enforce with religious zeal. Another reviewer mentioned "religious warfare" now isn't that a contradiction to the teachings of christ? I think enough blood has been shed by the church over centuries, assurredly more than any suppossed satanic ritual murder. most of the publicised satanic abuse/murder stories are about people trying to get a lessend sentence by saying: "The Devil made me do it!" Balderdash! The devil was created by the church! now there are evil and good forces/entities in this reality,,this metaphor of life, duality. But, is there a difference in the end? could we stop looking at things as black or white, good or bad,, and just say that everything apears to BE. this book takes advantage of disturbed people,,it was created to disturb people and make them devoted to a struggeling ideology. ever met a satanist? you could probably trust them better as babysitters for your kids as the local Pastor! any crimes supposedly connected to satanists are vauge in the media, however Reverend child molesters are a fact! so get off the warhorses and let people be,,don't try to scare them into submission to an ideology that is humanly impossible to uphold! Or sell them the line "you can sin your whole life and ask JESUS for forgiveness and go to heaven!" do you really think it would be fun to strum a harp for eternity? and wouldn't you get bored of burning in hell? I think other possibilities exist after death, the great architec of the universe is ever evolving and learning, wish the human race would learn to as well. thumbs down on the book,,,,the ideology,,the abuse of peoples psyche, organized religion, wars, and any second party salesman. you want god,,look for god in yourself, you want satan look inside yourself,,they are both there and both nessessary parts of your mind. positive and negative. you can't destroy one or the other,,you need to accept them and balance yourself. this book just unbalances already troubled minds. shame on you for writing it and taking advantage of people! and you are supposed to be a doctor? I pity your patients and the money they spend on you for this type of treatment. Do you use hypnosis to plant these memories of satanic abuse? That is what most of your kind do. live in a glass house? if yu are experiencing mental problems (and don't worry society breeds them) go to a non religious psychiatrist for help, don't make yourself sicker by buying into the junk written in this book.

1 out of 5 stars WRONG-O!!!.......2001-08-17

About 3 months ago, I tried out the idea of Satanism. Why? It sure wasn't any of the reasons expresed in the book. I bought it afterwards to see if he was "on-target", but he wasn't, of course. The only people who can understand Satanists are the Satanists themselves. anyone else trying to do so is a fraud.

If you're trying to save someone from Satanism, get a Chicken Soup book. save this for when there's nothing left to read on your bookshelf.

5 out of 5 stars Important message in this book for the church to indulge in........1999-10-24

Red Dragon Cast Down is a profound message that the christian world would do well to heed. As a 'lay' individual, the book has been encouaraging to me. It has been encouraging in the respect that the author speaks to needs that are often left unthought of, unknown, misunderstood and/or simply ignored. The book covers far more than 'needs' as expressed above.....it is a profound book which speaks to bonds, identity, community, and the impact of the lack thereof. The book also has a personal touch with some of the author's story woven throughout. From my vantage point, the author offers hope and understanding to those of us who are struggling, while at the same time wisely guiding those who are seeking to counsel/support. Wilder is covering important material that is so often poorly understood or simply ignored and dismissed.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent treatment of a difficult subject!.......1999-10-16

Dr. Wilder has done a masterful job of providing a great deal of information about a very difficult subject, in a manner that not only educates, but also motivates action. There is a wealth of specific "how to" information, with appropriate scholarly documentation. Dr. Wilder's writing style is appealing, without resorting to gimmicks. The reader is rewarded with great information in an easy to read format. This book is the best treatment of this subject I have ever read!

1 out of 5 stars Why continue to be deceived..........2006-06-29

Tim LaHaye, Jerry Jenkins, and others in the Pre-Trib circle, such as Ed Hindson, Tommy Ice, Chuck Missler, Zola Levitt, Thomas McCall, John Hagee, Grant Jeffrey, Marlin Maddox, Perry Stone, Texe Marrs, John Walvoord (deceased), etc., continue to put forth the same deceptions that Hal Lindsey popularized decades ago. The notion of a pre-tribulation rapture is foreign to scripture, it is foreign to the teachings of the early Church, and it is grooming the Church for destruction through ignorance and lack of preparation for what is really coming. These men are novices and not prophecy "experts" or "scholars" by any stretch of the imagination; they are those who tickle the ears of gullible Christians. Why continue to be deceived? Tim Cohen, in his excellent book, "The AntiChrist and a Cup of Tea," provides biblically sound and testable evidence to show that the coming AntiChrist is known NOW. Not only that, the same author (Tim Cohen) has now put out the strongest presentation on the whole issue of the rapture EVER offered to the saints of God in Christ: "The REAL Rapture". If you really want to know the truth about the timing of the coming rapture, then you need to hear Tim Cohen's "The REAL Rapture" (based on a volume in his forthcoming "Messiah, History, and the Tribulation Period" series (see Prophecy House's site for details on these items, which are also available via Amazon).

1 out of 5 stars False and Full of Lies!.......2003-02-08

I was looking foward to reading this book. Because I thought it would be full of facts. Instead I found Lie after Lie. First off anyone who knows anything about Islam would throw this book in the trash. The writer shows no respect towards Islams prophet Muhammad. And he states false historical facts for example on page 129 its written "The Muslims in Armenia murdered and robbed these Armenian Jews, who became known as Ashkenazi Jewry." When did this happen in his imagination? Please people don't believe everything you read! People like this writer are just breeding Hate.

5 out of 5 stars The Counterfeit Trinity of Bible Prophecy.......2000-05-15

Returning more fully to the Reformation theology theme of the first volume ("The Antichrist 666"), which theme indeed undergirds the entire series, author and researcher Wil Sutton examines what the Bible has to say about "The Dragon, the Beast, and the False Prophet" the Devil's counterfeit trinity at the end of time. He examines all forms of paganism/ spiritualism, Satan's original religion from Eden until now (the Dragon), Roman Catholicism (the Beast), and apostate Protestantism (the False Prophet). Sutton shows how these three forces are working together to effect the downfall of humanity today, in the years immediately preceeding the Second Coming of Christ. Too strong a comment? You NEED this book! Things are NOT what they seem; what often seems good to human beings ISN'T! The streams of the previous four volumes meet and end in this one. Bible prophecy will finally make real sense to you. You will learn what is right ahead of us in time, and what YOU need to do to get ready: something you owe it to yourself and your family to learn. Read this one with your 'King Jimmy' open! I urge you to get this book TODAY! Thanks, Wil, for a wonderful series (and thanks to your lovely wife Debbie for her tireless assistance as well!)

    Book Description

An Adventure for Character Levels 8-10 Remember the good old days, when adventures were underground, NPCs were there to be killed, and the finale of every dungeon was the dragon on the 20th level? Those days are back. Dungeon Crawl Classics don't waste your time with long-winded speeches, weird campaign settings, or NPCs who aren't meant to be killed. Each adventure is 100% good, solid dungeon crawl, with the monsters you know, the traps you fear, and the secret doors you know are there somewhere.

In Temple of the Dragon Cult, the characters are called in to pursue a dragon that the king's army was able to wound but not kill. It seems straightforward enough: the army tracked the dragon to its lair, and all the characters have to do is go in and kill it. But this dragon has a devoted cult of dragonblood followers who worship its every breath. Its lair is their temple -- and they'll fight to the death to defend their dragon-god...

This world-neutral, stand-alone adventure is completely new, not a reprint. It uses the 3.5 edition of the d20 rules set, and is fully compatible with the world's most popular role playing game.

    4 out of 5 stars Essential.......2006-11-26

Simply put, if you're a fan of Asian films, or are interested in delving into the wild world of Eartern cinema, this book is a must-own.

To make things clear, this was originally intended solely as a guide to Hong Kong action films. But then the editors made a last-minute decision to include films from all East Asian countries. However, most of the capsules are for HK and Japanese films. There are some Korean, a few Taiwanese and maybe one or two Indian films covered here. The problem with a book like this is that it is virtually impossible to create a comprehensive guide. The world of Asian cinema (especially Hong Kong cinema) is as vast as that of America, meaning, there are tons and tons of titles that aren't covered here, even if they were on DVD at the time this book was written. I can name at least five to ten titles off the top of my head that should be in this book but aren't.

That said, what makes this book invaluable are the capsule reviews themselves. Besides putting to light some of the rarer titles (including some ultra hard-to-find kung fu movies from Taiwan that are nearly impossible to locate on the internet) the writers also provide incredibly detailed plot descriptions. This comes in handy, especially if you're the type of movie-watcher (like myself) who will go to the video store and pick out random titles off the shelf just because the artwork is cool. A lot of times the older kung fu movies are almost impossible to follow plot-wise, and I've spent many times in front of a film with this book on my lap, following along with the description as the actual film played out (this was especially helpful when I accidentally rented PEKING OPERA BLUES without English subtitles!).

So, overall, I'd say this is a great book. It's the only true movie guide to Asian films, and while I would have liked to have seen more Bollywood titles, I really can't complain.

    2 out of 5 stars Interesting for it's length..........2006-11-04

but quite often the asides in the book appear to be what is found on the internet. Many of the entries for director and sometimes actors are incorrect. This makes the cross referencing mentioned above useless.

5 out of 5 stars How else could you ever know!.......2005-04-13

This amazing book is bursting at the seams with information both insightful and witty about the vast unknown world of asian cinema.
It is great to be able to find a film to fit any wacky mood.
The way you can search so many different criteria and be entertained by informed trivia make this guide indispensible to anyone looking expand their film horizons.
There is a genuine affection for the subject that clearly comes thru in the writing and in the reviews.
    I highly recommend this resource.

    3 out of 5 stars Strangely lacking.......2003-10-08

Though I find the usual Videohound a good referance guide, that cannot be said of this book. Their selection process of what to include seems at best enigmatic and the reviews are often confusing and some down right misleading. I find the book oddly lacking as a guide to Asian cinema purhaps more so given the self-imposed limitation of scope.

    5 out of 5 stars Finally!.......2003-09-25

VideoHound has outdone itself. After giving us great books on Cult movies, Sci-Fi, Horror, and Foreign Films, they've finally given fans of Asian movies a smart, thorough, and utterly indispensable guide. The conceivable problems of cataloging Asian movies are handled with the utmost respect to the reader's intelligence. Asia, being the largest continent, presents it's own unique problems for the people at VideoHound in terms of content. For example, Russia, for the purpose of this book, is considered a European country, and will be included in the European guide to Action & Cult films. India is hardly represented, although VideoHound states that this is due to the fact that few Indian movies are available in North America with subtitles.

One potential problem is categorizing films as cult movies. This guide is silent on the criteria used to give cult status to movies, yet almost every movie I could possibly think of is included. Nearly every conceivable giant monster film from Japan is covered, as well as tons of horror movies from all over the continent. If a film is not included, it is usually because the movie is hard to find, and VideoHound wants to stick to reviewing movies that are attainable to people in English speaking countries.

As with any film guide, the amount you agree or disagree with the reviewer makes all the difference. VideoHound's reviews are done by people who are fans of these movies, so alongside obvious four bone movies such as Tampopo and Seven Samurai, movies like Gamera 3: The Revenge of Irys and Mr. Vampire are given top honors. (VideoHound rates on a bone scale to keep with the dog theme. Four bones is the best, and a "Woof!" is the worst.) There are tons of martial arts movies listed. They comprise the majority of the films reviewed in the book. I am not a big fan of martial arts movies, but I still do not feel cheated by the book's content. There is a good mixture of impossible to categorize movies to keep it interesting. Besides, the essays on martial arts stars and histories behind the films are enough to compel people who hate kung fu movies to check out a few titles.

VideoHound's indexes are what put this book far beyond the grasp of any other book on Asian movies. You can search by cast members, directors, writers, cinematographers, alternate titles (which is essential considering how many of these movies have different titles based on when and where they were released), and categories. The categories range from every film made in Hong Kong to hopping vampires, and of course your standard categories like horror movies, action/comedies and so on. The only drawback to the indexes is that they are too thorough. For example, under the Sumo wrestling category, the film Happiness of the Katakuris is listed. Having seen this movie, I can tell you that the sumo wrestler is a very small part of the movie, and someone searching for movies about Sumo wrestling would be disappointed if they took the information at face value. Also, a video distributor index would have been helpful. There is, however, an index called Dragon Connections in which books, websites, and a few online stores are listed. There is even a glossary at the front of the book, defining terms like Kowloon, Shaolin, kaiju, and so on, for the uninitiated.

The sidebars are amazing. There's a "Who's Who of Kung Fu movies", biographies on Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and others, essays on Godzilla, Gamera, hopping vampires, yakuza, subtitles vs. dubbing, and just about any other conceivable subject.

Anime fans be forewarned, very few animated movies are covered. The movies covered tend to fit either into the cult category (Barefoot Gen and the Vampire Hunter D movies), or are considered classics, (Akira, Spirited Away). The introduction of the book hints at a VideoHound Anime guide, so keep your fingers crossed.

In the past, I've bought so many other guides to Asian movies. They are now all worthless thanks to VideoHound's Dragon: Asian Action & Cult Flicks.

Very few modules allow the DM to easily create a storyline, aid low level players with a helpful but limited non player character, make use of rangers and druids in wilderness foray, and a creepy dungeon crawl complete with an interesting boss.
The town and temple require players to investigate not only what is happening, but where to sleep (in safety at least). The NPC is a powerful but old wizard who can add some comic effect if played well. Players are forced to make interesting alignment decisions (is a cursed or twisted priest of a good diety fair game to attack?). The wilderness requires guides or tracking skills. The dungeon is simple and there is actually a plan for rescuing people and destroying the entire dungeon.
One of the best modules of all time.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent low level module.......2000-07-08

This adventure has it all, but I still think (T1-4) The Temple of Elemental Evil is the best of all time. This gives players a chance to roleplay in a well thought out and developed town where they attempt to discover what is terrorizing the poor sleepy community. Once they discover what is going on the adventurers get to dive into a fun dungeon that has the right balance of good creatures and well deserved treasure. This can be fun even for those dimwitted players that couldn't solve a mystery to save their lives(and it usually does). Design some subplots around the meaty town or use the kidnappings setup in the module. You may find yourself wanting to stay in this town for quite some time! Hey eventually everyone has to figure it out right?

This rare module is the finest introductory-level module ever made for Greyhawk. (I know that's sacrilege, but it's even better than T1; and, your heroes will be much better prepared for T1-4 after they survive this!) You get a perfectly detailed starting base in the northern heartlands, and a wonderful mystery - the reptilian creatures of the Rushmoors are becoming more insidious and organized with every passing week. What is going on? In order to re-establish the trade routes, the heroes must plunge into the depths of the mire, and into a seeping subterranean hell they will never forget... highest recommendation.

4 out of 5 stars ...and the dead dragons shall rule..........1999-12-31

The Dracolich, a creature shrouded in fear and dark sorceries. So too has the mysterious cult which worships them been shrouded, but no more the shroud has been lifted! Long the odd man out of all the mad power groups of the Realms, this wonderful game supplement by Dale Donovan lays bare the lore surrounding not only the Cult of the Dragon as it is today, but as it was. This supplement chronicles it's evolution from a mistranslated line in an ancient text, to the power hungry cell structure that threatens the realms today. Provided within are several Creatures, including the mighty Dracolich, used by the Cult. The text also provides numerous spells and magic items, most of which are unique to the Cult and it's followers. The presentation, and quantity of information and realms lore are a wonderful addition to any Realms DM's library, but don't let that scare you, this supplement could fit in any campaign world. It's a keeper!

5 out of 5 stars Good sourcebook for any DM.......1999-10-01

Cult of the Dragon is a must for any DM interested in the more established "bad guys" of the Forgotten Realms, especially in the Heartlands region.

Much like the Ruins of Zhentil Keep revealed some of the inner workings of the notorious Zhentarim, Cult of the Dragon does much of the same thing. It offers much history, current info of Cult cells, new spells, monsters, and magical items unique to the Cult and their draconian allies.

Excellent writing and nice format also. Once again this is a must recommended for all Forgotten Realms fans.

        5 out of 5 stars Well done.......1999-09-01

I'm glad Sammaster is finally told in a Resource for DM's. It's very good to see how a Dracolich is created and talked to. The opening conversation with a Dragon is very well done. The new monsers, spells, and plots are very helpful for any DM wishing to include the CoTD in their campaign

        4 out of 5 stars A comprehensive guide.......1999-02-23

If you are planning to use the CotD in your campaign then this book is a must. Otherwise, the dracoliches, new monsters, dragon spells & deadly Sammaster created magic could liven any broken DM's dreams to crush an insolent party. I recommend this book because of it's possibilities, if fully explored by the right DM.

        1 out of 5 stars *gag*.......1999-02-12

I really hope Forgotten Realms is *really* forgotten sometime very soon. TSR is wasting good money and manpower that should be used to bolster better campaign settings like Birthright and Greyhawk.
