Scatterbrained.......2007-09-22
This MAY be the best introduction to SL, I don't know, but it is not well organized or specific. There is a huge problem with any print material on SL-it is obsolete before it comes off the press. Hey, if you are into Second Life, this is as good a place as any to start. Just don't think its going to be anywhere all that you need. But then, there probably isn't ANYTHING that tells you all you need to know. One thing, read this BEFORE you create your avatar! Although then you won't know what the heck half the stuff means.
Second Life, the Cadillac of VR Sites........2007-09-22
Like Second Life itself, this book gives you the basics and then expects you to find someone willing to explain the rest. Although the book glosses over the details, it is still a very good place to start finding your way around the often bewildering world of SL. I found the chapters on "A Cultural Timeline," and "The Future and Impact of Second Life" to be of particular interest.
All in all? A good, basic introduction.

Book was in excellent shape! for something different, this is a very enjoyable book! would definitely order from this supplier again!
Entertaining.......2007-08-21
Very entertaining, thought provoking, and teaches attention to detail. It doesn't offer as much variety in types of puzzles as the first volume, but it's still worth the purchase. The price is just right.
Terrific fun.......2007-07-24
This is the second Life picture puzzle book I've bought, and they both are terrific. The pictures are engaging, and it's so much fun to work out the "picture puzzle" and find the differences. I wish there were more of these books available. I had hours of fund with this.

Challenging Fun.......2007-07-31
Based on a popular feature in the now defunct Life Magazine "Life: Picture Puzzle" has 90 puzzles in which readers look at two pictures of the same thing and try to find the differences between each puzzle. In a few instances, six pictures of the same thing are shown and readers have to find the one puzzle out of the six that has been changed. There are four levels of difficulty: Novice, Master, Expert and genius. For those who like a bit of an extra challenge, the editors suggest a completion time for each puzzle. While long-time readers of Life Magazine may recognize some of the puzzles, the editors reworked them with new changes. In fact, they use some of the same pictures in the book at different levels and with completely different changes.
"Life: Picture Puzzle" is a fun challenging puzzle book. I thought that with 90 puzzles in the book, the more puzzles I solved there would be repetition of the differences and it would be easier to solve the puzzles but that wasn't true. Some of the puzzles did have obvious changes including obvious color changes, but there were many puzzles in which I couldn't find all the changes. Several of the puzzles offer hints to some of the changes in either the title or description of the puzzle. The number of changes in the puzzles range from as little as six changes to as many as 20; the more changes, the harder the puzzle. The editors do a good job of sorting each puzzle into the appropriate level of difficulty. The Novice Section is easy enough and solvers should easily find the first five or six changes in each puzzle while having to search a bit for the last few. The more details in the picture in the puzzle, the harder it is to solve. "Easter Surprise" with six pictures where solvers have to find the different one was a nice change. The Master Puzzles give you more time to solve the puzzle and range from pretty easy to tricky and hard to solve. The easiest ones to solve are the ones where you have to pick the different picture out of six choices. The Expert Puzzles are tricky and tough with lots of subtle changes, some involving color changes. There aren't very many Genius Puzzles but they are indeed very hard, even the two where you have of find the different puzzle out of six. Fittingly, the last puzzle, "Final Exam" is extremely hard, with 20 changes to find. As an added bonus, several of the puzzles have an added change that is not found in the answer section. The book says to go to the Picture Puzzle Section on Life's website, but even though I followed the instructions in the book, I couldn't find the answer section on-line.
"Life: Picture Puzzle" is hours of challenging fun.
Addicted to these!.......2007-07-24
This book is terrific fun, and gives hours of enjoyment if you like to spot the differences between pictures. I really liked the different difficulty levels, so you could really work on improving your skills. I hope there are many more of these type of books available, as I'm addicted to these now.
What fun too !.......2007-05-13
This is a great followup to the original. I wish the book size had stayed the same as the first book. The hardest puzzles were the best. Still fun for both young and old.
Fun and good for the mind.......2007-04-22
These puzzles are entertaining and a good challenge for the brain.
Superb Mental Stimulation.......2007-04-06

prosperity consciousness from another source.......2007-08-05
Florence Scovel Shinn was writing about prosperity consciousness in the late 1800's and early 1900's, well ahead of the current trend. Her books are easy to read and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to all of my friends and they are purchasing it and doing the same. That says it all in my mind.
Changed my entire approach to living. . ........2007-07-06
The Game of Life and How to Play It has been the most influential self-help reading to date that I have found. The book is easy to read and understand. I have read my copy probably 15 times; pages are beginning to fall out. The fact that it is divided into sections for life's encounters, e.g., prosperity, love, etc., I can go back when I need help getting through the rough times to that particular section and gain strength and guidence. Once read, the writings just all come together to make more sense about approaching life's daily challenges than anything I have ever read; and, trust me I've read plenty of self-help books. I love this book so much that I have bought 6 copies to give to beloved family members and close friends because I do not want to keep the insights this book reveals to myself. I want everyone I care deeply about to experience what this book has to offer. Great read, great lessons!
Brilliant!.......2007-06-13
I've had this book for years and have worn out the cover. I refer to it constantly. I purchased copies for friends and have been doing so since I first read it. Florence was before her time!
My Favorite Book of All Time!.......2007-06-09
Absolutely without question the most charming and inspiring book I've ever read. My copy is lovingly dog-eared, my loaner copy is in the same condition and I've bought several as gifts.
Of all the "positive thinkers", including the much more well-known such as Louise Hay and Norman Vincent Peale, Florence is the most enjoyable to read and the easiest to apply to your life, in my opinion.
Reading her is sheer delight and an instant mood-lifter and problem-solver, every time.
before the secret.......2007-05-17
This is an amazing collection of writings that gives real and practial ways to move forward in life. A Lady well before her time, the princibles that she teaches are not secrets just forgotten over time.
Have a little faith, change your Life.

Think BIG is BIG.......2007-09-20
Highly reccommended! Not just for the aspiring business person..this book is for everyone. This is the secret before there was "The Secret". A must read, insightful for everyone who wants to have a better life.
Great Stuff/ Timeless Priciples.......2007-09-06
This is an all time classic. But if you buy this book you better not be looking for a contemporary book on cutting edge material. This is a classic like "How to Win Friends and Influence People", with solid moral and ethical principles of business and how to live your life.
I would say that this is a must read, except for the fact that you have to get past some pretty dated anecdotes and the fact that the writer does not reference who these anecdotes are about. I can't imagine a contemporary writer getting away with what was polite and respectful writing in 1959 & 1965 when Schwartz uses anonymous examples to make his point. If a writer does that today they would seem to be writing fiction.
I may have offended some and I apologize. This is a great book and I don't mean to take away from the very sound principles in it. My only warning is that it was originally written in 1959 and that doesn't make it any less than excellent.
Great book.......2007-09-06
A must read book for everyone. There are so many things a person can learn from this book.
Being proactive.......2007-08-20
If you think you can, you're right; if you think you can't, you're right also. 'Magic' is a great addition to any self-help library - David Schwartz offers concise and well illustrated advice on improving your every day life. Varying from discussions on positive thinking, to dressing smart, using goals, and overcoming the fear of failure, there is something for everyone in this book. Highly recommended.
Startlingly simple, and smoothe to read........2007-07-08
Shwartz can be a bit monotonous at times, but the stories accompanying the essential ideas in Think Big are helpful and keep the book interesting. The recall at the end of the book basically eliminates the need of highlighting and note taking because the throughness and stickiness offered by the sometimes clever naratives.
Book Description
In the spirit of Rick Pitino's New York Times phenomenal bestseller Success Is a Choice, living legend Cal Ripken, Jr., presents an inspiring guide to overcoming any challenge and building a life you love.

Ripken is admired by thousands of fans not only for his relentless perseverance, but also for his unparalleled integrity. Now, in a stirring book that draws on his exhilarating career as well as the wisdom of his legendary father, Ripken shares rousing advice centered around his proven 8 Elements of Perseverance:
The Right Values: hard work, excellence, honesty, and integrity

Get in the Game: 8 Elements of Perserverance that Make the Difference.......2007-09-28
This book provides extremely useful guidelines in dealing with situations we all eventually run into in our lives. While alluding to baseball related examples, it does not simply dwell solely on recounting Mr. Ripken's impressive baseball accomplishments or relate amusing/interesting anecdotes. Instead it gives thought-provoking insights into two all too fast-disappearing basic axioms in our country's psyche: "practice makes perfect," and "do unto others." I highly recommend this book for everyone, especially young people still in their formative years. In fact, it presents an excellent opportunity for parents to reconnect with their child(ren) by reading it aloud and together, with discussion centering on each of the eight elements as they are completed.
Baseball analogy of the game of life.......2007-08-29
Get in the Game is not only a book about Cal Ripken Jr., his consecutive games streak and his fine career. It's a recap of some simple but overlooked values.
Using his core strength in baseball to describe his thinking, the reader will not only appreciate some particular plays in his career, but also down-to-earth ways of approaching things in life.
If at first you don't succeed................2007-08-17
Life's little lessons taken from one who knows. Good title. Inspirational! Thanks Cal.
Mr. Ripken Knocks it Out of the Park.......2007-07-11
This is an excellent book by one of our modern-day greats: Cal Ripken, Jr. A native of Aberdeen, Maryland, he spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles. He broke a record that many said would stand forever, and this book parallels the former holder of that feat, Lou Gehrig, with a treasure trove of quotes about the latter's life. In a sense, we learn as much about the character and perseverance of Mr. Gehrig as we do about Mr. Ripken.
One early quote set the tone for the entire book:
"I just played because I loved the game, and because I had been taught certain principles that prevented me from backing away from anything."
Mr. Ripken chronicled his youth, the special relationship with his father, Cal, Sr., and then explained in concise fashion his eight principles for perseverance. Some themes related directly to baseball, while others are about life itself.
Here are the eight elements:
Right Values
Strong Will to Succeed
Love What You Do
Preparation
Anticipation
Trusting Relationships
Life Management
The Courage of Your Convictions
This is a very entertaining and informative book. Thank you for the opportunity to review it.
An education in more ways than one........2007-06-12
I am not now nor have I ever been a baseball fan. It just never appealed to me. But Cal Ripken has been heralded as the nicest guy in baseball and the sub-title ("8 elements of perseverance that make a difference" was definitely attractive, so I read the book.
I'm glad I did.
Ripken interweaves a literal history of baseball into his core message of how persevverance plays out in a ball game and life. It's an interesting, informative approach. I can see why Ripken has succeeded in his motivational speaking career as he did is his baseball career: life literally starts anew each day for this guy. Yesterday's msitakes and regrets are left behind. One of the most fascinating parts of the book for me are Ripken's descriptions of team work in baseball and how it works. Frankly, because I've never been a fan, I didn't realize just how much cooperation and coordination is required on the field.
Overall, a very worthwhile read and uplifting.

According to Bob Burford, broaching midlife doesn't have to be a crisis. In fact, in Half Time, Burford insists that it is actually an opportunity to begin the better half of life. The first half is busy with "getting and gaining, earning and learning," doing what you can to survive, while clawing your way up the ladder of success. The second half of life should be about regaining control, calling your own shots, and enjoying "God's desire ... for you to serve him just by being who you are, by using what he gave you to work with." What lies between the two is "halftime." Buford argues that whether you are a millionaire, a manager, or a teacher, you will one day have to transition from the struggle for success to the quest for significance. Halftime, then, is a quiet time of deliberate decision-making, restructuring, and passionate contemplation of your heart's deepest desires. Buford's writing is grounded in the real-life experience of success and failure, and most poignantly, the death of his son. While he has led a very successful life in the eyes of the world, Buford's personal stories reveal that his faith in Christ is his central priority. Instead of a transition to be feared, Buford makes midlife an introspective journey of abundance that will unleash God's best for you. --Jill Heatherly

Bob Buford's Halftime shows how men can make their middle years a time of transformation toward a more satisfying -- and significant -- life.

A book about the stages of life........2007-09-21
Bob Buford does an execellent job in presenting not only the changes in ones life but also possible courses to take!
This book hit home!.......2007-03-28
When I decided to take an early retirement from my company of 30+ years, a friend recommended that I read this book. I couldn't believe how it hit the mark with me. Granted, I am what I would consider to be a 'spiritual person', but aside from that, Buford really hit the nail on the head with many of the feelings that I had been experiencing of late.. That is, the entire notion of putting 'significance' ahead of 'success' in life. Isn't that what everyone would want to leave as his/her legacy?
I enjoyed the book, and found it to be relevant, interesting, and a fast read. I recommend it for anyone who is moving into a mid-50s 'retirement' period, sorting out the opportunities that are out there.
Outstanding.......2007-02-11
If you're looking for a life of significance after success, or even if you feel you have had very little success, this book will make you significant in serving others. A must-read. Get it now, and don't delay. It will change your life.
Half Time.......2007-01-17
An excellent resource for anyone in career transitioning...insightful and thought provoking while reassuring to the reader that much of the anxiety associated with career transitions is normal. Self reflection and devoted planning time are required to get the absolute most out of this book.
Concept vs. Applicability.......2006-08-09
This was a nice story about a guy making a journey from success to significance in the second half of his life. Unfortunately, most of us don't have the financial resources to do things the way he did them. Conceptually, what he is saying is appropriate. However, most of us don't have the millions that allow for extended time off to reflect, seek the help of consultants, conduct low cost probes, etc.
If you're looking for a nice inspirational story of one man's journey in faith, this is a good read. If you're looking for some strong Biblical insights on which to make some life change, this is not the book to use for that.

Fabulous book - every parent should have!.......2007-08-01
I read this book and then bought a copy so I could keep it as a reference. Full of fascinating information about baby development that every parent should know -- I was surprised to learn just how advanced babies' minds are as soon as they are born, how they are much more aware of the world around them than previously thought. This book has many ideas of how to capitalize on your baby's brain development as s/he grows. Simple and fun games to play and ways to interact with your child. I love this book and have used many of the ideas already with my 8-month-old daughter.

Great info on baby's brains!.......2007-03-28
Sort of a review of "Early Childhood Development" courses. With reference to Skinner and Vygotsky's work. Very interesting and a fast, easy read.
Interesting but wordy.......2006-11-04
This is an interesting book and it goes into detail about little minds, but some of it may be too technical for parents who just want to learn the games and not why or how they stimulate. Some parents might not have time to read all the background info and would like to just get down to the fun part, which is a little bit difficult with this book. Still, if you have the time to devote to this book, it really is interesting and enlightening and may encourage you to try to develop even more games to stimulate your child's growing mind which is certainly a good thing!
