Book Description
The witch has grown the biggest pumpkin ever, and now she wants to make herself a pumpkin pie for Halloween. But the pumpkin is so big she can't get it off the vine.
It's so big the ghost can't move it, either. Neither can the vampire, nor the mummy. It looks as if there'll be no pumpkin pie for Halloween, until along comes the bat with an idea to save the day.
How can the tiny bat succeed where bigger and strong spooky creatures have failed? You'll be surprised!

Big Pumpkin.......2007-09-25
I love this story, it is even better with the audio tape, the one that tells this story through song. I didn't care for the audio cd that just read the story, it felt very bland. Great book!!!
Best Halloween Book EVER!!!.......2007-01-10
As a kindergarten teacher and, now, as a mom I just adore this book! It is so cute. The repetitive text and "sing-song" nature make it lovable for all ages. The characters, although traditionally spooky images, are not scary at all and I have not met a kid yet who has not loved this book...including my one and a half year old son. After just a few readings he was "singing" along with me and constantly asks to read it again. I was thrilled to see that amazon offered a hardcover version. I have gone through numerous paperback copies in my classroom because the paperbacks tend to fall apart (not sure if this was a result of the quality of the paperback or because of how much "love" the book received by numerous children. It was probably a little of both.) I highly recommend the hardcover...well worth the little extra money. There is also a very hard to find cassette version and if you get the chance, snatch that up as well! Do not even think twice about ordering this book...you'll love it!
the Big Pumpkin.......2007-01-10
A fun, funny book that is great for a Halloween library. The Kindergarten students join in tugging and tugging to move the pumpkin. A great book for a school or classroom library. It is one of our favorites.
Fun Read .......2007-01-10
We have a lot of fun reading this book. It made ghosts, witches, bats and the like as susceptible to failures(?) as the rest of us.
Wonderful! I wish the audio was available..........2006-11-10
I got hooked on Big Pumpkin when I subbed in a Kindergarten. The teacher had the audio and the book. The children loved it and chanted along. I haven't been able to find the audio but I still read the book to my son. It is a nice Halloween tale, fantastic for little people. I highly recommend it. And if you are lucky enough to find the audio, snap it up!

Make your home come alive with ghoulish spirit by plucking clever Halloween ideas from Laura Dover Doran's The Big Book of Halloween. From indoor décor to yard trimming, eerie edibles to easy costumes, Doran supplies a pleasantly spooky assortment of decorating and party-making ideas. Greet trick-or-treaters with authentic-looking gravestones and a procession of paper-bag luminaries, set the table with a bat runner and a pumpkin-spoon centerpiece, then serve up haunted-house cake or graveyard pudding washed down with spicy witch's brew (cider punch). Lots of color photos supplement good directions, and as an added bonus Doran throws in eight ghost stories to tell at your next Halloween party--illuminated by ghostly gourd lights, of course. --Amy Handy

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-02-27
This book has wonderful ideas, someyou will see elsewhere but plenty of fresh new ideas. Recipes, crafts, ideas all in one book. I loved getting this book!
More fun to flip through than actually use as a "How to".......2004-09-11
I'm always a little disappointed by any book that says it has it all, and the craft and recipe offerings in this book are either overly complicated or very well-worn. We've all seen painted pumpkins, graveyard pudding, and knitted pumpkin skullcaps many times before.
What I do like about the book is the holiday stories and lore sprinkled in throughout the book, the list of "last minute costume ideas", and photos of vintage Halloween collectibles. The book is fun to flip through, but there's nothing much new I'd use here for decorating or party throwing.
A FUN book that gets you in the mood for Hallowe'en!.......2003-06-01
I love this book! The craft projects are beautiful, functional, and diverse, presented beautifully with great photography and art production value. Notes and articles about various aspects of Hallowe'en are interspersed throughout, making this resource much more than just a how-to book. It's a joy to look at, whether you're in the mood to read, create, or just look at great seasonal photos and illustrations.

Nice easy projects for fall decorating........2002-06-23
Nicely written and illustrated with color photos of virually all projects. Projects are not too complicated, but more decorative than scary. More fall oriented than strictly Halloween. I prefer Martha Stewarts book; it was smilar but more original.

Great Value for a Halloween Book!.......2007-09-29
We have about three Little Witch books and my four year old son enjoys them all. Little Witch is a sweet little witch. They are cute books! For ages probably 3-7.
Love Little Witch.......2007-01-04
Great Learning to Read book. We love Little Witch in our house!
Very cute.......2006-06-30
I bought this book to read to my daughter when she was about three years old. Once she started to read about the age of five she would read it to me. It's a very cute story. My daughter will be eight soon and she still likes to take it out and read it to me once in a while.
Very Cute.......2006-01-23
My son is just starting to read well, and he sat and read this to me from beginning to end. At first he groaned when I brought it out, but after a couple of pages he was interested to know what was going to happen and read it with enthusiasm.
My Favorite Holloween Book.......2005-11-10
Little Wiches Big Night is the best story I've read this week. I really like this book because it shows what Halloween is like. It should be for kids from 4-9years old. I think the little witch is the best character.

Fun, but Could Have Been Much Better.......2001-10-11
If your child likes Clifford, this book is fun. But to see how much better a glow-in-the-dark book could be, take a look at
Scooby-Doo and the Halloween Hotel Haunt : A Glow in the Dark Mystery
This Clifford book has more words on the back cover describing the book than inside telling the story! I wish they'd put in just a bit more effort, so that we could read it for 10 minutes instead of 2 minutes.

Customer Reviews:
Bring It On!.......2007-08-06
I remember reading this book to grade school classes when I was a media specialist. The children loved it and I liked it because I didn't get bored reading it nine times to different classes. This indicates a solid book open to fresh oral rephrasing - in other words "A good read-aloud". And yes, it's just scary enough to liven up library hour. If your child is fright-sensitive make a decision beforehand, but for most kids bring it on!
Not appropriate for under 10..........2005-10-12
I can't believe the reviews that I see on this book. I just read this book to my 4 year old after checking it out from the picture book section of the library. I should have reviewed it first! I liked the repetition in the story but the cats in the story who "ate the coals in the fireplace" were far to scary for the ages recommended for this book (5-9). My son had nightmares last night about the cats. I'm a third grade teacher, and I can't even imagine reading it to that age group. I just felt it was not appropriate for young children.
A Great Spooky Book.......2001-10-01
I bought this book last year for my then 3-yr-old and it was the first book that he absolutely loved. He still consistently chooses this one for a bed-time story. Why? Maybe it's the easy cadence and repetition of the words which allow him to "read" certain parts. Maybe it's the exceptional illustrations that keep us looking even a year later (see how many cat images you can find in the house). And he still laughs at the joke at the end. (I, too, like another reviewer, like the fact that a person of color takes the starring role, yet his race is irrelevant to the storyline. "He was a big man, he was a strong man" but there's no mention of the obvious fact that he's also a black man.)
A great scary read aloud!.......2001-04-26
My 5 year old daughter has just learned to read and adores this story. She loves the repetition of "He was a big man, he was a strong man" and the pictures greatly complement the text. She and I loved the ending the best. A great scary read aloud that your children will want to hear over and over throughout the years.
Great for learning and scary!.......2000-09-29
This is a wonderful book! It's great to see people of color in a book that doesn't really have anything to do with race! Kids will be scared out of their socks but there is a great lesson in these pages. This is a wonderful buy for children between the ages of 4 and 10.
Book Description
Bear has a special Haloween surprise for Pip and Pop -- fish-and-clam-shaped chocolates! The otters are so pleased by their treat that they decide to trick Bear into loading up their bags with candy. Will their master plan filled with delightful disguises actually work? Find out in this sweet Haloween story!
Customer Reviews:
Fun and Clever.......2006-09-26
"Bear's Trick-or-Treat!" is an original "Bear in the Big Blue House" story featuring mainly the otters Pip and Pop. It's Halloween in Woodland Valley and all the kids are out trick-or-treating. Pip and Pop, however, get an idea when they find that Bear is passing out clam and fish shaped chocolates at the Big Blue House. They keep coming back over and over again, donning a variety of different disguises to fill up on chocolates. But they eventually learn that sharing makes Halloween fun for everyone.
This book features nice illustrations, combined with pictures of the characters from the show. Each page is fully illustrated and the fun and funny text will appeal to young readers and fans of the series.

A fascinating collection of Halloween-related folklore includes legends, love spells, and traditional ways to find out whether one's love will be true and lasting or chaotic and strife-torn. Here too are directions for making great Halloween party invitation cards with pop-up ghosts, as well as pumpkin-and-chocolate truffles to serve at that party. Kids, grownups, and everybody who enjoys celebrating Halloween will find great ideas for hours of supernatural fun and eerie entertainment. Full-color illustrations throughout.
Customer Reviews:
Disappoinment.......2006-08-27
I expected much more. Most of the content is common and trite geared more toward children rather than adult entertaining. Costume suggestions are ridiculously dull (a witch, bad fairy, zombie, etc.). The only part somewhat interesting is the recipe segment with colorful photos. However, I have seen most of these recipes published on the net. I would not buy this book again and I certainly would not recommend it.

Book Description
For Halloween, the Sesame Street friends all dress as witches. As the “trick” part of “trick or treat,” they make people guess which witch is which. It works like a charm until Oscar the Grouch hilariously turns the tables on them with his own Halloween trick. This warm, funny story also teaches the powers of observation.
