Miracle cure stories abound when it comes to natural healing. A super nutrient reverses cancer after chemotherapy has failed. A Chinese herb lowers high blood pressure in a patient with heart disease after being dismissed as quackery by doctors. Jordan S. Rubin's account of returning from the medical abyss, however, includes an original twist. After several years of battling Crohn's Disease, which included a small fortune spent on both conventional and alternative treatments, as well as trips abroad in search of help, Rubin weighed only 111 pounds and, at just age 21, thought his life was over. At the urging of his father, a naturopath, he contacted an obscure nutritionist in California promoting a diet based on the teachings of the Bible. Yes, we're talking what Jesus ate: kefir, lamb, sprouted breads, eggs and meat from free-range chickens, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Rubin also started to pray and added a new powder supplement containing homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) to his diet. Four months later he weighed 170 lbs and was on the road back to his former athletic and healthy self. Inspired by his experience, and now with advanced degrees in nutrition and naturopathic medicine, Rubin has crafted The Maker's Diet. While the faithful will surely find the book of interest, Rubin's command of the scientific issues underpinning his recommendations may also appeal to those more accustomed to studying food labels in search of what to eat than ancient religious texts. --Patrick Jennings

Good read for IBD.......2007-09-02
I certainly don't ascribe to every single detail of this book, or Mr. Rubin's beliefs (although, there are many that I do) but this is a definite read if you have IBD, IBS, or any other GI problems. Since I have Crohn's, I can speak from experience. I am using his philosophy, in conjunction with the SCD and have had good results. I believe using diet as a means for therapy is great, but it won't deliver results overnight. You have to be willing to give it a chance.
To most of you who gave 1* or 2*'s, I offer you 4 remarks. You either a) have never suffered from a disease yourself, b) you aren't a Christian (or you just can't stand the thought that the Bible MAY have something to offer!), c) you didn't even bother to read the book, or d) you didn't follow the diet. Don't be so blatantly obvious! Oh, and reality check, don't take life so literally....think outside the box!
I have had IBD for almost 8 years. If you think that doesn't qualify as someone who has some knowledge of the GI system, you are wrong. It doesn't always take a MD or some "righteous" degree/credentials to write a book and share knowledge. In fact, all my MD's want to do is shove pills down my throat or open me up with a scalpel.
4 stars for this book. Just another way to avoid taking so many drugs. I do wish, however, that Mr. Rubin offered more for less. As in less money. You have to pay to be a member on his website (not gonna happen!) But, in the same breath, I've paid enormous amounts of money in pharmaceuticals and doctor's visits. I don't mind buying a book or two if it might offer even an ounce of help! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Mr. Rubin!
Not for everyone.......2007-08-09
The problem with this book is it assumes everyone has the same problems as the author. I gained weight because of all the dairy fat and wound up with gall bladder problems. Mercola's book is better since it addresses people like myself who are a carbohydrate type.
Read this to get a perspective on diet options.......2007-07-25
I was given a copy of this book while shopping at a health store. There are some great nuggets of information in here. I am not even going to go into the religious talk on this. Get what practical information that you can from this book. There are great ideas that the average person can learn from, while searching for a better, healthier way of living. This is a good starting point.
gibberish.......2007-07-17
according to a reputable scientific site:
"Garden of Life, Inc., of West Palm Beach, Florida, and its founder and owner, Jordan S. Rubin, have been ordered to stop claiming that their dietary supplements are effective against a long list of ailments, ranging from colds to cancer. In 2004, the FDA ordered Garden of Life to stop making unsubstantiated claims for "Q-Zyme,""Primal Defense," "Virgin Coconut Oil," "Fungal Defense," "FYI (For Your Inflammation)," "RM-10," "Revivall Classic," or other products [1] In 2006, the FTC filed a complaint and consent agreement involving unsubstantiated claims that:
Primal Defense treats intractable immune disorders, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, lupus, colds, flu, and Crohn's disease, and reduces users' blood cholesterol levels;
RM-10 treats cancer, helps lower users' blood cholesterol levels, prevents and treats cardiovascular disease, and treats immune system disorders;
Living Multi reduces the risk factor for diabetes and prevents diabetes-related syndromes, reduces the risk of obesity, and reduces inflammation; and
FYI (For Your Inflammation) treats and prevents inflammation, including inflammation caused by arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, sports injuries, asthma, allergies, fibromyalgia, lupus, scleroderma, and other inflammatory conditions.
Under the settlement, Rubin and the company:
Must pay $225,000 in consumer redress. If it is found they misrepresented their financial status, they will be responsible for more than $47 million--the total gross sales of the four dietary supplements.
Are barred from making unsubstantiated claims about the health benefits, performance, efficacy, safety, or side effects of any food, drug, or dietary supplement, or any program that includes such a product.
Are prohibited from misrepresenting the results of any test or study when marketing such products and programs [2]"
Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle Rip Off.......2007-07-15
I will begin by saying that if you are currently eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) this book has information that will help you TRANSITION to a much healthier way of eating and living. However, if you are seriously ill and need healing quickly, you would be better off with George Malkmus' 'The Hallelujah Diet'. Brother George wrote his predecessor books to that one long before Rubin came out with this book, which appears to steal much of Malkmus' material. The big problem is that Rubin throws expensive organic, free range meat and dairy into the mix. If you read Rubin's first book about his healing, you will find that it didn't include fiberless, acid ash forming meat and mucus laden/forming dairy. These foods have been shown conclusively to contribute to disease by 'The China Study' and many other highly reliable sources. But, having them in this diet makes it much more palatable to people on SAD, hence it's current popularity. I also have an issue with Rubin's high priced supplements which he requires as part of his regimen. While Malkmus has a reasonably priced line of supplements available for the Hallelujah Diet and Lifestyle, they are not 'required' for maximum benefit from his regimen.
Biblical Scripture does include this 'Noahic' diet, however I believe the Maker's Diet would be more correctly described by Genesis 1:29, which Rubin does quote, and which describes YHVH's Original Diet in the Garden, as well as the Hallelujah Diet. It just makes logical sense that this would be the ideal as it was given in the ideal state of man, created specifically for his body's needs. Noah appears to have been given permission to eat meat based upon need, as most vegetation had been destroyed in the flood. Just because we have permission does not indicate that it is YHVH's ideal for us.
I am a Certified Health Minister with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and a work background as a Certified Environmental Trainer specializing in Health & Safety and Hazardous Materials who has studied several of Rubin's books carefully and find them seriously lacking in comparison to the much more effective and practical Hallelujah Diet and Lifestyle materials.

#1 bestselling author Joyce Meyer reveals the seven most common obstacles to living a happy life-and the ways to triumph over them. Throughout the Bible, from 'make a joyful noise,' to 'rejoice in the Lord always,'believers are encouraged to be joyful. Not only does joy foster good feelings, but it also promotes strength and health. However, the stress of daily life often makes joy difficult to come by. Now, Joyce Meyer offers numerous examples from Scripture to remind readers that God promises a joyful attitude to anyone open to receiving it. She examines the seven pitfalls that prevent most people from living a joyful life and offers solutions to overcoming each of them. Then, in her honest and straightforward style, she encourages readers to make the decision to enjoy life-not just once in a while or when things are going well, but in every circumstance, every day.

Meeting Myers.......2007-05-02
Upon reading this book as part of my Church's Women's Ministry "Book of the Month", I was well-pleased with the basic approach, simplistic illustrations, and personal sharing of a well-loved personality. Mrs. Meyers is commended for "making plain" the challenges of life and how we contribute to the absence of joy that hinders the Christian walk. When placed before us for honest review, the examples, suggestions and advice call for change and/or the acquiring of new perspectives on "things" and one's response to "things" that occur. The book is recommended for group study and as a companion to Christian self-help programs.
Seven things that steal your joy.......2006-10-15
This is an excellent book. Joyce Meyer made it so simple and easy to understand. She used her own personal experiences which makes you feel that her recommendations are realistic and effective. You can totally relate to this book.I highly recommend this book.
very helpful for Christians.......2006-06-14
This book was a wonderful help to me. It's written simply so the important concepts can really sink in. She uses a lot of Scripture which is something I appreciate. I don't think a non-Christian would gain much from this book, but I would recommend it for any Christian.
If I am feeling sad or defeated..........2006-01-25
If I am feeling sad or defeated, I put my Sony headphones on and Joyce talks to me. I know she is just reading her book, preaching her message, but the way she speaks, it really feels like she is talking directly to me, teaching me exactly the lesson I need to learn, exactly when I need to hear it. The timing of her messages in my life can only be described as supernatural. Many times the message is so right on, so clear, and such a relief, it reduces me to tears of joy. I am certain that God is using her to speak to me, and deliver the exact help I need, right when I need it. The fact is that my situation has not changed(much), but with God's help, I have been changed. God is so good.
Helps you regain your joy!!.......2005-09-25
This book helps you regain the joy that you thought you lost by pointing out the ways in which it was stolen. Too often as believers we get into a "rut" and we just don't "feel" like being joyful. So many things come at us and we begin to lose sight of God because of all the stuff piling up on top of us. This book helped me understand why I was in that "rut" and how to get out of it. No, the christian walk is not easy, but at least it can be joyful if we will stand strong in faith. If you feel like you have fallen it the "rut" of unjoyfulness, I suggest you buy this book and learn how to come back into the light before it is too late!

Bestselling author and Christian apologist Josh McDowell hopes The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict will further document historical evidence of the Christian faith. As such, it is a straightforward compilation of notes prepared for his lecture series, "Christianity: Hoax or History?" The entire book (over 750 pages) is laid out in outline form, which makes it easier for researchers, scholars, and students to access. As a result, this is not reflective fireside reading. Rather, it is a tool for locating supporting "evidence" whenever the need arises. Part I addresses the trustworthiness of the Bible; Part II offers historical evidence and supporting attestations for Jesus' claim to God; Part III addresses "radical Christian criticism" of the Bible; Part IV is devoted to quelling the voice of numerous skeptics, including "a defense for the existence of miracles" and "answers to divergent worldview."
Book Description
Evidence I & II-The classic defense of the faith: Now fully updated to answer the questions challenging evangelical faith today.
The New Evidence maintains its classic defense of the faith yet addresses new issues.
The New Evidence is destined to equip believers with a ready defense for the next decade and beyond

A Must Have.......2007-08-31
This is a Must Have book for any Christian. It helps explain many, many questions that non-Christians and Christians alike come up with. This book will not only strengthen your belief but also help "back up" that belief! As for "Faith", well, we all know where that comes from....
Very impressive evidence.......2007-06-21
This is a very unique book for one reason: you will not find any "faith-based" arguments used to prove claims made about the bible. Only documented facts are used.
McDowell employs an interesting technique to prove many of the Christian beliefs about Jesus: namely he uses the actions and arguments made by the groups that hate Jesus to prove the point. For example, he uses the heavily guarded tomb to prove that the jews were willing to do whatever they could to prevent the resurrection thus destorys their argument that the Christian's may have taken the body. Also, if Jesus' body wasn't resurrected the jews could have easily squashed the religion by simply offering Jesus' dead body up to the Christians.
Also, the author argues that the jewish priests BELIEVED in the miracles he was performing. The jews accused him of using sorcery to accomplish his miracles instead of just calling him a fake (although they call Jesus a fake with impunity 2000 years later!). When he restored the sight of a blind man they stated that he was using the devils power to restore sight instead of asking the man whether or not he was really cured of blindness.
By looking at what the antagonists say about Jesus he has a perfect source of proof. By Crucifying Jesus for Blasphemy (something even the anti-Christ authors of today admit) McDowell proves that Jesus' followers didn't merely invent his claimed divinity (what else would they Crucify him for?).
Beyond these methods the author explorers many "friendly" evidences to support the bible as well, such as scientific evidence for the locations, peoples, events, etc in the bible. He uses historical evidence, as well as the testimony of those who witnessed the events of the new testament and recorded the events in their lifetime.
Before I read this book, I had doubts that you could seriously PROVE the events in the bible and that Jesus was the son of God. But now, if this case was brought before a true court of law, I have no doubt that a jury would find for the defendant: Jesus.
enlightening!.......2007-05-08
written by someone who set out to prove that christianity was a crock, josh mcdowell convincingly shows all who read the overwhelming evidence supporting a risen jesus christ. a must have!
good, but not without problems.......2007-04-26
I have read this book several times and I use it as both a reference and an anchor when the world tries to spread lies about Jesus. I will say that although this book is unparalelled in its excellent persuit of the truth of Jesus and the Bible, etc., it relies a bit too much on emotion, personal experience and the author's hope that the grey areas will be resolved somehow. I think that the author should have spoken only where there were facts and not conjecture, because anything presented as apologetics and which has within it emotion and poetic liscence, however brief and cursory, opens us (Christians) to ridicule and taunting by the left and their scientists/archaeologists etc. All in all a good effort, but perhaps Mr. Mc Dowell would be better off writing a novel about his personal experiences, and a book strictly about the facts and allow the readers to harmonize the two in their own minds.
An outstanding reference for Christians!.......2007-03-17
This is an outstanding reference book for Christians. It provides evidences for the truth of Christianity and the Bible under several different categories. It is organized in a way to make it easy to use to teach a class. Highly recommended!

This book proves to atheists that they don't exist, reveals to agnostics their true motives, and strengthens the faith of the believers. This book answers questions such as "Who made God?" and "Where did Cain get his wife?" The book uses humor, reason, and logic to send a powerful message. Here are some reactions from atheists who read the book . . .
Customer Reviews:
Ignorant, insulting, disgraceful........2007-08-02
Atheists obviously exist. Additionally, evangelical Christianity is hardly the only faith. God, if there is such a being, would be absolutely aware of persons of other persuasions. The title is nonsensical, insulting and degrading not just to atheists, but to persons of other faiths and denominations. It is especially so expressed in the form of a bumper sticker on a car parked on my street every day. The Pope recently proclaimed that God disapproves of evangelicals, and evangelicals objected to that, but at least the Pope did not suggest that God questions evangelicals' right to exist.
Great book that proves God.......2007-06-28
This book is incredible. I take that back, Comfort just lays the truth out in the best way that it can be laid out, because athiests will always have excuses. Comfort tackles many excuses atheists use and proves them wrong.
Great book
Gotta love this guy.......2007-05-01
Whatever else you might say about Ray Comfort, he's clearly got an ego on 'im. Whatever reason Ron Barrier may have had to decide not to debate Comfort, it's hard for me to believe that fear of the arguments contained here was one of them.
More likely, Ron felt that it was better to let Comfort's book stand without comment.
I suspect that a lot of Christians believe that atheists' numbers are rising because people like Richard Dawkins are putting out books that hit the bestseller lists and change a lot of minds. Frankly, I doubt that. I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone who read 'The God Delusion' was either already an atheist, or would NEVER be one. No, the reason that atheists' numbers are rising is because smart people hear the things Christians habitually say, and think "Wow, Christianity just seems ridiculous/dishonest."
So a book like this probably creates more atheists than a book like Dawkins'. After all, Ray Comfort is the man who brought us the infamous Banana Argument, an argument so completely idiotic that there's really not much point in refuting it -- if you've got any common sense at all, you can see for yourself what's wrong with it. If there's any trap that atheists tend to fall into, it's this: we feel compelled to respond to stupid arguments and explain exactly why they're stupid. We shouldn't. We don't need to. Smart people can recognize stupidity for themselves. And stupid people? Well, Christianity is welcome to them.
So, to readers of this book, you're in for a treat. The debate over God's existence has raged for thousands of years, but Ray Comfort says he has the answer. No ego there...
Oh, and Mr. Comfort? I just want to say thanks for the Banana Argument. We had a lot of fun with it.
Good Proof for Christians.......2006-12-28
I would say that this book is a better "faith-building" book for people who are already christians. Ray Comfort presents his logical arguements in a way that would appeal and make sense to a Christian, and it has greatly helped me. however, I doubt that an atheist would buy into his arguements. this book would be more for beginners.
A Healthy Dose of Truth.......2006-12-28
Those who profess atheism are themselves followers of a religion: the religion of secular humanism, and therefore an active assertion in denying God. Thus, all worldviews are religious worldviews. Comfort speaks lovingly, yet with fire. His logic is superb and he appeals to common sense, reason and the human conscience. This is the book that had American Atheists national spokesman Ron Barrier running scared. I highly recommend it as an apologetic to give to unsaved persons, or for Christians who want to know how to witness to atheists more effectively.

The first Geneva Bible opened the pages of Scripture for all readers and provided helpful notes to assist in the understanding of its central message. The Reformation Study Bible, under the editorial leadership of reformed scholars such as R.C. Sproul and J.I. Packer, offers a modern restatement of Reformation truth for the broad evangelical community. A wonderful resource for anyone who desires to understand the impact the powerful truths of the Reformation have had on today's church. Available in the New King James Version.
Customer Reviews:
The best available.......2007-10-03
This is the best modern translation of the scriptures and is especially good for reading aloud. The study notes are the best reflecting Reformed theology.
Great Translation and Great Study Bible.......2007-08-10
The ESV is the leading modern translation for serious students of God's Word. The study notes in this Bible are, as you would expect, from a Reformed perspective, and great benefit is to be had by reading the Word and studying along with the notes. I bought this as a gift, and now I am going to get one for myself.
A Great Study Bible.......2007-07-24
I am very pleased with this bible. Ligonier Ministries did a wonderful job. Everyone else involved did a fantastic job as well. I strongly suggest this study bible to anyone. The ESV is a great literal translation that is quickly becoming my favorite. A must have in my library to be sure.
Disappointed.......2007-07-22
This could be a great study-Bible, but its not. The ESV is the most accurate translation from the original tongues and is highly regarded as such. This version needs a great deal of "polishing up" to make a great study-Bible. The print needs to be darker for starters; the concordance is lacking; maps are very distasteful, the notes are not easy to read, and it lacks depth. I would not buy this again if I had it to do over. It is a very mediocre study-Bible as it is.
For The Next Edition.......2007-06-07
Putting aside the surprising omission of a set of maps, the content of this study bible is superb - ESV, cross references, concordance, excellent notes and very helpful theological articles.
But the book itself is large and HEAVY, not very convenient to carry around, let alone hold and read for extended periods of time.
The publishers need to get expert advice on quality issues relating to paper, printing and binding techniques to produce a more compact, lighter edition.

Good for quick reference.......2007-07-25
By no means is this a thorough treatment of the scriptural basis for Roman Catholic doctrine. But, neither was it intended to be so. It does provide a handy quick-reference for reminding you of key passages in this long-standing debate. Books such as this make me a little uneasy in that they may imply an acceptance of the Sola Scriptura (Bible alone) premise - conceding the entire debate to the dubious doctrines of one side in that debate. In no way should one make that mistake - Mr. Madrid is not attempting to accept the Sola Scriptura premise but is simply providing the evidence one might need to refute the claims that scripture militates against Roman Catholic doctrines. Some of those doctrines are not so clearly spelled out in scripture as are others and to those we are indepted to the entire teaching history (Tradition) of the church. At the same time, that sacred Tradition does not contradict sacred Scripture - indeed, no such dichotomy between the two exists.
Again, this is a handy quick reference for one who is already familiar with the topic and not a treatise on the doctrines as a whole. Good to keep handy but only a start to understanding the faith fully. This is a very useful book and good to have handy for frequent reference.
Very Good, interesting book.......2007-07-18
This is an interesting book. It is very useful to give one a better understanding of his faith. The book helps a person to be able to defend the crucial doctrines of the Catholic Church.
A Worthy Introduction .......2007-05-07
"Where is that in the Bible?" by Patrick Madrid is the perfect brief book for anyone who has wondered what the Biblical basis is for some of the things that Catholics do and believe. "it is designed to be a handy reference guide, an overview of the major biblical passages that pertain to many issues that tend to come up between Catholics and non-Catholics." But even if you never use this book to debate with anyone regarding your faith, it is useful simply to have a deeper understanding of one's own faith.
There are six main divisions to the book dealing with authority, doctrines, the sacraments, customs and practices, moral issues and non-Catholic beliefs. The chapter on "Authority" discusses the roots of the papacy, the authority of the Church, the role of tradition and the role of Scripture. "Doctrines" discusses Catholic's understanding of Mary, the mother of Jesus, the Trinity, Purgatory, salvation and more. The roots of the seven sacraments are covered in the chapter on "The Sacraments." "Customs and Practices" covers many of the practices that others may take issue with in the Church. For example, the role of priestly celibacy, tithing, and repetition in prayer. "Moral Issues" covers many of the hot-button issues of our day including abortion, divorce, and homosexuality. The final chapter "Non-Catholic Beliefs" seems somewhat out of place in the book, but it deals with why certain non-Catholic beliefs are not biblically based such as the claim of Jehovah's witnesses that only 144,000 will be saved.
"Where is that in the Bible?" is not an exhaustive discussion of these beliefs and practices. Rather, it offers brief treatments with a few well-chosen Bible passages. It is a worthy introduction for those who have wondered about any of these issues.
Handy Weapon On The Religious Battlefield.......2007-03-22
I joined the Catholic Church at Easter in 2000. I used to be a Baptist/Congregational/Bible Church Protestant. With my past and my present, I'm one of those people who's literally been on both sides of the fence in the "who's right, who's wrong" debate. Patrick Madrid, a favorite apologist of mine, compiled this wonderful little "fieldguide" to Catholicism that takes major Catholic beliefs and supplies Biblical evidence for them. He also uses the Bible to debunk a few beliefs of other religions as well.
The book is broken down into six distinct areas of study: 1) Authority, 2) Doctrines, 3) The Sacraments, 4) Customs and Practices, 5) Moral Issues, and 6) Non-Catholic Beliefs. What makes this book unique is the fact that Madrid goes out of his way to eliminate Sacred Tradition, the Catechism, and those books of the Bible not accepted by most Protestants in order to defend each issue. He will sometimes hint at these sources, but primarily uses the Bible as accepted by most mainstream Protestant faiths. Much like his book, "Answer Me This!," which takes fifty frequently asked questions by Protestants of Catholicism and answers them, Madrid breaks each section of this book into short, to-the-point explanations. This isn't an exhaustive or thorough resource book, but it is easy enough to carry along with you most of the time. I'd also suggest toting along a Bible with you, as Madrid lists numerous references but does not print each one of them out on the pages of his book.
Overall, this book combined with "Answer Me This!" will provide any Catholic with a solid defense of their faith. It's also a wonderful book to use in day-to-day Bible study. It's a wonderful little resource to have around whenever friends or neighbors question your faith.
Highly recommended.
REFERENCE TOOL.......2007-03-11
This is a great little reference tool. I gave it to a friend who is in almost daily contact with non-catholics who think that Catholics don't read the Bible (and often mis-quote passages), It makes points without being argumentative or unkind. Just the facts, Maam! (to quote an old TV detective).
Book Description
Why do we get sick? If God says we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14), why do we always seem to be hampered with health problems? While a perfect, pain-free existence won't happen on this side of heaven, there are tangible, successful ways you can improve your health and overall quality of life. The answers, says Dr. Rex Russell, an invasive radiologist, lie in God's Word. Through year's of searching for answers to his own struggle with diabetes, Dr. Rex Russell finally discovered a successful plan for healthy living: don't eat anything God didn't intend for food (e.g. avoid scavenger meats such as pork shellfish and catfish); don't become addicted to anything (i.e. do not make food your god); and ingest food before it is changed into nutrient deficient or harmful products.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it is very informative, and accurate. we just started to apply these principals to our diets, and we have been eating healthy and feeling great.
the best of its genre.......2007-03-21
The title of the book really says it all. God created us and gave us specific instructions on what to eat. We would be wise to follow them. I've given copies of this book to my whole family.
A Gem of Books.......2007-02-15
I have found this book to be very insightful about my eating habits. Putting biblical boundaries around my eating choices actually gives me the freedom I've been needing to say no to all types of junk food. It has also helped me learn to trust God's guideance in other areas of life. God knows His creation and wants the best for us.
What the Bible says about healthy living;three Biblical principles that will improve your health.......2007-02-08
This is the best book I have read with clear, easy to follow advice that will show you Bible references for all of it's tips. It has a page of foods with Bible verses to look up where the food is eaten. There are references for the unhealthy foods, too. If you want a straight forward book without a lot of the authors own "reasons why", you will be very happy. You will come away with the answers you were seeking.

Life That Wins is a wonderful bible study that not only focuses on weight loss, but on building your relationship with God and others around you. It is very encouraging and also convicting. It is a great motivational tool for growing in Christ while also increasing your health benefits.
Book Description
Author David Currie grew up conviced that one day all true Christians will suddenly be snatched up to heaven. The unfortunate souls left behind by this "rapture" will endure seven horrible years of tribulation, at the end of which Christ will return to earth for a glorious thousand-year reign.
Today, millions accept this end-times theology, assuming as Currie did that the Bible clearly teaches it. Many plan their lives around it. But, after studying Scripturefor decades, Currie has come to see that accepting the Bible means rejecting the rapture.
In this remarkable book the world's most careful and thorough scriptural study of the rapture Currie demonstrates why. He considers all the relevant verses ( there are hundreds!) and examines them in the light of ancient history, the writings of the earliest Christians, and the claims of the rapturist theologians. With painstaking thoroughness, he unlocks the meaings of key biblical prophecies that culminate in Christ's Messianic Kingdom including those verses in Daniel, Matthew, and Revelation that rapturists turn to most.
Marshaling evidence as startling as it is compelling, Currie argues that these prophecies of war and tribulation don't point to some still-unrealized apocalyptic future. Rather, most of them were fulfilled long ago: the spiritual, priestly Kingdom prefigured in the Old Testament was inaugurated on Calvary, consumated in 70 A.D. with the destruction of the Temple, and continues to exist today...the Catholic Church!
That surprise you. Yet, as Currie shows, it's the only conclusion that fits all the scriptural and historical evidence.
Rapture: The End-Times Error that Leaves the Bible Behind makes Scripture, prophecy, and history come alive; and it demonstrates that if you open your Bible, you'll find that God's plan for the future of the world is not filled with darkness and disaster, but with light, mercy, and hope.

Better grasp of biblical interpretation.......2007-09-16
This is a long book, and as detailed as it gets, into the problem of the end times. No matter what your take on that subject, this book will answer many of your questions. Certainly it gives a thorough background into the way the early Christians interpreted the end times.
The gist of Currie's argument centers around what happened in 70 AD, which is frequently overlooked by other interpretations.
Jesus, in the Olivet discourse, very clearly promised that "this generation" (Matt 24) would not pass away before they had seen many signs and events. C S Lewis called the Olivet discourse, "'certainly the most embarrassing verse in the bible'" (p148).
Unless you take Jesus at his word. Then, as Currie painstakingly explains, those words are full filled when the Romans, in 70 AD, burned the temple to the grounds. This was exactly the way that Origen, Clement of Alexandria, and Eusebius interpreted his words.
The history and background of biblical interpretation are worth the price of the book.
Yes and No.......2007-05-02
It is necessary to take a leap of faith to in order to fully accept Christian doctrine.
There has always been within Christendom that group which does (take a leap of fatih) and that group (Apologists) that do not. This is NOT a Catholic v Protestant division.
This book is written from the Apologist point of view. I give it a three star rating for the research but do accept its conclusions. However it does contain some valid criticisms.
Evangelicals fall into error when their faith becomes presumption.
Regarding end times eschatology - no time table should calculated (and the instruction not to do this appears in Scripture) - that is the error -the mistake that many Evangelicals make.
It is not an error to believe by faith in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
For decades Christian Apologists taught that the prophesized rebirth of Israel was intended as a spiritual metaphor nothing more.
Well we all know what happened in 1948.
Fantastic.......2007-01-31
Absolutely fantastic - best book on end times I've read, and I've read a lot.
Read "Whose Right It Is" also.......2007-01-20
Any book that dispels the absolute foolishness of the "Rapture Theory" has to have some merits. I do not follow theories. I seek the truth that only the Spirit of God can reveal and confirm. You should read the book "Whose Right It Is" by Dr. Kelley Varner for a greater spiritual insight into these matters. He takes head on every argument the tribbers have. The prophecies of Daniel that are incorrectly used to support the "Rapture Theory" are clearly expounded on in his book. All of the writings of Paul that have been abused by those who preach the rapture are dealt with by Dr. Varner to reveal their true spiritual implications and the context in which they were given.
True spiritual growth is beyond the intellect. Those who truly seek to worship Jesus in spirit and truth will be led to the truth of the Word. The truth concerning God's purpose in the earth is repeated throughout the word. Just read Psalms 37. Search on the words "righteous", "righteousness", "wicked", "wickedness" and similar words in the book of Proverbs and you will see that God's purpose is to remove all wickedness and leave behind his righteousness. So I hope to God I am left behind. Isaiah 45:18 states "...God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited..." By preaching a physical "taking away" we are actually speaking against the very purposes of God. Jesus spoke in his model prayer to the disciples, "in earth as it is in heaven". Not to mention "the meek shall inherit the earth."
Once again, I highly recommend "Whose Right It Is" by Dr. Kelley Varner.
Rapture! - finally a book that dispells the myth.......2007-01-04
What a great read. It really lays out the scripture and it is tough to adhere to these phony baloney rapture claims. Good link with Daniel and the Olivet discourse in the Gospels to the book of Revelation. It is a bit slow and repetetive in the early chapters but it picks up a bit when you get to the destruction of biblical Isreal by the Romans (Europeans picking on the Jews? Who ever heard of such a thing).
So read and enjoy. Otherwise, stock up your supplies for 7 years of tribulations.

Neither Humble nor Respectful.......2007-08-11
I bought this book largely based on the very positive reviews found here, and was surprised and disappointed to find it so different than other readers have found it. Specifically, my impressions are literally opposite to those in the second paragraph of Jonathan Prejean's review.
Personally, I found the book to be VERY emotionally laden. Armstrong seems full of a great deal of bitterness and negativity towards Protestants, and does a very poor job of remaining dispassionate. True, he makes a few formal *statements* about respect for those on the other side of the fence, and does quote Protestants extensively, but I find the entire tone and spirit of the book to be overwhelmingly bitter and defensive. The text is riddled with jabs, sarcasm, mockery, and derision toward Protestants that betray an obvious emotional investment in the subject and make it very difficult to focus on the theological content.
For example, many passages of the book are dedicated not to theological discussion, but to the recounting of specific debates the author has had online with individual Protestants, where he attempts to illustrate in detail how he bested his opponents and made them to look like ridiculous fools. He also heaps a great deal of scorn on such famous protestant thinkers as Luther and Calvin. Far from demonstrating respect for their intelligence or humbly discussing "how reasonable men can disagree," he very arrogantly attempts to portray them as intellectual idiots and as men motivated primarily by conceit and blind anti-Catholic hatred.
Overall, the impression that I got from this book was not that the author was attempting to teach his readers about spiritual truths of which he is convicted, but that his primary purpose was to demonstrate his own intelligence and skill in argument, and to malign and discredit Protestants both individually (whether Luther, Calvin, or the many "internet opponents" he so proudly shames), and as a collective "they."
Despite this unfortunate tone, spirit, and style, I did still find some of the content to be valuable. Armstrong IS clearly intelligent, very well-read, and a logical thinker and good writer. I was raised Catholic and later converted to Protestantism based on personal convictions about doctrinal truths, and I did find the book helpful in understanding more about the scriptural basis for Catholic doctrine. He presents a number of cogent arguments in defense of specific Catholic beliefs -- I just wish it were written without the emotional baggage. Catholics may not be bothered by the tone, but I would caution Protestants to read a few chapters before buying, because the style may make it difficult for you to remain emotionally detached and evaluate Armstrong's arguments for their merit.
Enlightening.......2007-07-09
As a Protestant exploring the Catholic Faith, I was surprised to learn that it is not Evangelical Protestants but the Catholics who take the Bible literally. This book is comprehensive and compelling in its Scriptural defense of Catholicism.
Dead on.......2007-06-20
I have read the book cover-to-cover twice, and every now and then I pick some passages to help go through my bible studies.
Strongly recommended.
A Wonderful Apologetic written by a former protestant.......2007-05-01
This book is very informative and shows the contradictions calivn made upon scriptural fact. The book is well writtten and is a good book catholics want to arm themselves with knowledge to battle protestant fallacies. Recommended. Five Stars *****
Excellent and informative but a different style........2007-03-30
Raised Baptist in the 70s and 80s then being Presbyterian since, including Youth Minister for a while, I found this book to be an excellent source of information.
Dave puts together compelling arguments and does an excellent job of presenting both sides of the argument by quoting Calvin, Luther etc... In the past year I have been reading a number of books on Catholicism and I rank this up with the best of them information wise.
My only warning or thought to some who might purchase this is to remember what Dave does and is. He is an Apologist so he likes to argue. For me this was fantastic because I LOVE to argue my point. However some people do not and might get offended at the way some of the conclusions are presented. I personally did not, I loved it, yet I would pick and choose which of my Protestant friends to give this too and might start them out with something else first.
I've also found the author's website to be a treasure trove of information. I look forward to his continual desire to help people find Christ's Church or rekindle the flame if they are already there. I'll be picking up some of his other books as well. I start my RCIA classes next month.
