OUTDATED by 15 YEARS, 3 REVISIONS, and THOUSANDS of WORDS.......2007-01-24
This book was missing words and had typos 15 years ago. Since then there have been 3 major revisions to the dictionary. The last update alone had over 3200 words removed or added. By including words that have been removed such as DA and not including words that have now come to be accepted such as FE this book leads you astray and far behind. Two letter "hook" words like these make a huge difference when looking for good plays. This book is too outdated to be of use to anyone looking to improve their game. Take the advice of the champion player who wrote the first review listed 5 years ago and get your info somewhere else.
Wore out the first one.......2006-11-10
This is my second copy of this book, too many pages were falling out of the first one! I have also used others, but this one has the advantage of showing letters that you can put in front of words. I wish someone would do a new edition however.
scrabble lovers bible.......2006-11-03
An excellent book, gives lots of 2 and 3 letter words...great book
EFL Teachers - a good resource.......2006-07-09
I teach English as a foreign language, and this dictionary is great for helping children play more effectively and to understand root words and how they evolve into other words.
pulp it.......2006-06-25
this book is outdated by a factor of 2 (two) dictionary revisions. As many as 8000 words are not included, and to complete the pie, there's (ewwww!) TYPOS! Yep, errata, misprints, however you wanna call it. This book is essentially garbage.
Book Description

To play, make a 2 to 7 letter word from the tiles pictured on the page. Then add up your score in the boxes on the right. Compete against your own best scores, or compare your words to the "best answers" given in the solution. Once you've started solving SCRABBLEgrams, you'll never go back to ordinary word games again!

scrabble fun minus the board. .......2007-01-10
Good book. Puzzles are enjoyable and doable. If you can't scrounge a scrabble partner this will get you a scrabble fix.
For Scrabble Fans.......2007-01-04
Good practice. Use post-its & you can use it over & over.
Review of Scrabblegrams.......2006-02-24
This book contains many more Scrabblegrams and for anyone who enjoys this type of Scrabble play the games are excellent. I only hope that they put out a book called "Another Big Book of Scrabblegrams"!
From the Board Games Editor at BellaOnline.com.......2005-12-01
A ScrabbleGram is a simple word puzzle which gives you a "rack" of seven letters. Your job? To find the longest word playable on the rack. Often the best words are 7-letter words, but sometimes the longest ones are only 5 or 6 letters long.
These puzzles are a great way to practice your Scrabble rack strategy and "anagramming". They're also a really nice twist on puzzles (fans of Crosswords, Sudoku and especially Jumble will definitely enjoy these as a nice change). I found that doing a couple of the puzzles before playing a Scrabble game was surprisingly helpful, it made for a great warmup.
I've found most travel editions of Scrabble to be somewhat unwieldy, they seldom lie flat and the little letters often get lost, so I've long since given up on travel Scrabble, but these puzzles are a great way for me to enjoy my favorite game even when I can't play a full-length version of it. Wonderful! I'm really hoping these catch on and a whole line of the books become available, because I'm nearly done with mine and I'll want more soon!
Amazon.com
If you're using the 1991 edition or the 1978 original, you're woefully behind the Scrabble-playing times. With more than 100,000 2- to 8-letter words, there are some interesting additions ("aargh," "aarrgh," and "aarrghh" are all legitimate now), while words they consider offensive are no longer kosher. Why subscribe to the Scrabble dictionary's changeable lexicon? Well, it ends the argument of whose dictionary to use, but the main reason is that it's the winner's dictionary, and why play Scrabble if not to win? Memorize those 2- and 3-letter words, and your Scrabble game becomes lethal.
Book Description

Scrabble Players Dictionary.......2007-01-06
A wonderful tool for the scrabble players. Easy to use and handy to have
Mom's an avid Scrabble player.......2006-11-10
And she doesn't dare part with this to anyone. This is something she truly appreciates. The one thing that surprised her is that since it's in large print, the book is larger than the smaller print pocket version. She keeps it at home for safekeeping and enjoys it very much.
This book has been replaced by 4th edition!.......2006-10-12
Do NOT get this book -- which contains only the THIRD EDITION of the allowable Scrabble words. If you want the FOURTH EDITION, which is current up through its publication in late 2005, use this number to search Amazon's catalog: 0877796343 which will take you to the Fourth Edition, Large Print. For some reason, you can't find it by using words like "Scrabble Large Print" to find that edition -- you have to use the ISBN number.
Using the older edition might be okay if Amazon starts selling it at a discount; it's certainly good enough for friendly family games (in most families!) but won't get you where you need to go if you are playing competitively, and need the most current list of new coinages, acceptable 2-letter words, and q-words.
Large print scrabble dictionary.......2006-07-08
This dictionary is excellent to read and has definations that the smaller version does not have.
This book is out of date.......2005-10-22
I don't know why Amazon is still pushing the 3rd edition 4 months after the release of the 4th edition, which is much superior! The 4th edition is available on Amazon as well, but you have to look elsewhere for the large print (Walmart online has it).

Scrabble Puzzle Book Review.......2006-02-24
This book is excellent as it contains many ways to improve and versify your Scrabble skills. There are many new games and approaches, which can range from novice to challenging. It contains many new words and methods of setting up the board during play, and if one really examines the games, one will certainly improve their Scrabble skills. As well, there are many games provided that will take hours to decipher and play.
great book.......2005-04-13
This is very useful for those of us who like playing word games, especially the page of two letter words.
Improving your game.......2004-11-30
You can pick up some good tips on how to beat your opponents from two-time National Scrabble Champion Joe Edley along with some challenging puzzles in this modest Scrabble puzzle book. I particularly recommend the material on pages 194-202 where Edley suggests that you develop the habit of asking yourself questions before making a play.
For example, question number one is, "Do I have a bingo?" (A good first question!) Question number two is the obvious, Which bonus squares are available, but question number three really gets to the nitty-gritty of good play: "Can you 'hook' any words? Look at every word already on the board and ask yourself if any single letter can be added to the front or back to form another word." Also important is question number four: "What will my 'leave' be after I've made my play?"
Too often the beginning player does not pay enough attention to the tiles he or she is going to be stuck with after a play. Sometimes, Edley advises, it is better to make a lower-scoring play in order to leave oneself with tiles likely (with a little help) to form a bingo.
The bulk of the book is devoted to Scrabble puzzles on various themes, e.g., "Placing your letters on hot spots"; using the J, Q, X and Z; two-, three-, four- and five-tile plays, etc. There is a diagram of the Scrabble grid with some plays already made. Underneath the diagram are the letters in several different racks. You are asked to find the best play. Edley recommends that you do the puzzles by setting them up on your own Scrabble board. I think that is the best way as well since the diagrams in the book are in black and white and so the bonus squares are not colored, and are highlighted only by the letters "DWS," "DLS" ("Double Word Score," "Double Letter Score"), etc. This makes it hard to get a quick feel for where to look. At least that was my experience.
A handy feature is the list of the 97 two-letter words allowed in official Scrabble tournaments on page 7. (I think that has been changed to 96 with "da" now being disallowed.) Interesting features include the weighed scores for answers to the various puzzles. For example, for the puzzle on page 93 there is an "expert" score (for five racks) of 155, a "good" score of 145, and an "average" score of 120. But Edley also gives his score of 164 and challenges you to beat it.
There are 800 puzzles, so this book will last through many a long winter's night; however this is not as good a book as the more substantial Everything Scrabble (revised 2001) by Edley (along with John D. Williams, Jr.), which I also recommend for the serious Scrabble player.
Somewhat useful.......2003-05-09
This is a good game if you're trying to find a way to make that 20 or 30 point word to put you in the lead for good. If I used it in some of my Online Scrabble games, I think that I would be fine. That's just me though.

Book Description
The journal of Michael Storky Pomerantz tells the tumultuous tale of life as a high-schoolercomplete with the fact that the love of his life is dating a high school football player. As he chronicles the highsand, of course, the most embarrassing lowsof his freshman year in high school, Storky paints an amusing and oftentimes hilarious portrait of an average teenager. But Michael is a not-so-ordinary kid, with a wit and charm that is atypical of average teens, and you will soon be cheering for him to lose his nickname and win the girl.
Customer Reviews:
POV of a teenage boy we all know.......2007-07-19
Storky is a fun book written from Michael "Storky" Pomerantz's point of view in diary form. It was fun to follow the daily happenings of this freshman boy. He starts out with a journal on the computer and then figures out someone may be reading his personal thoughts, so decides to just type the pages and print them out, but not save them.
Storky's sister reveals some of his inner most thoughts, showing that she was the one reading the journal. Being of nerd fame, all Michael wants to do is get through his freshman year of high school without being noticed too much.
Storky tries very hard to be accepted by his father, who lives outside the home--and tries to accept his mother's antics and deal with the mixed-up, crazy Jewish family traditions all while trying to maintain a semi normal life. Every day is a new adventure for Storky, right up until the end when his mother meets and marries his dentist. All through the dating process, he wants to hate Dr. Berman but finds he can't hate a man who has befriended him in the only way he knows how. Michael ends the school year planning another person's life and gets the girl, not the one of his dreams or that he thought he would get--but someone better.
Armchair Interviews says: Most of us can relate to that freshmen year in high school. Nice story from boy's point of view--written by D.L. (Debra).
Truly Funny.......2007-02-08
Written in the journal-entry style a' la Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging, this book will make anyone who has ever been a high school freshman laugh every few pages. The diary follows the first year in high school for Michael "Storky" Pomerantz, as he tries to lose his nickname, get a girlfriend, and learn about making the right choices in life. Unfortunately he is not only saddled with a useless divorced Dad in the throes of a mid-life crisis, but other calamitous events in the life of a 14-year old: the uncontrollable male body part he nicknames "Rex" (who causes embarrassing things to happen while he is trying to impress girls at the blackboard with his Spanish skills), a mom who begins dating (gasp!) the pudgy family dentist, a friend who introduces him to alcohol, and Michael's own age-appropriate musings and wonderings about sex. First-time author Deborah Garfinkle (note that the publisher uses the "J.K. Rowling-don't-let-the boys-know-it-was-written-by-a-woman" name change), gets right into the head of a smart, sarcastic and sensitive young teen with great skill. The character of Michael is unmistakably Jewish and living a very middle-class, 3-times a year, Reform Jewish existence in San Diego. Librarians: beware of the maturity of the themes, but know there are many young high-schoolers who will be passing this hilarious book from hand to hand and waiting most impatiently for the certain sequel.

Storky: A Good Book But Not The Right Way Into A Teenage Guy's Mind.......2006-11-07
Now I am Over 13, but Didnt Want An Account So Don't Get The Wrong Idea
Now Mike Pomerantz aka Storky is a freshman in highschool and is going through some normal teenage things.
I thought this was a well written book for a female women, but unless you have some real bad hormone problems most guys arnt like that(or that much of a pervert) So If Your A Girl And You Have Read This Book DO NOT THINK THAT EVERY GUY THINKS LIKE THAT.
This book was a highly entertaining book and slightly disturbing on my part but yeah...Well I would Highly Recomend This Book To People :)
She Did It!.......2006-08-19
A lot of people have talked about how this book about a GUY was written by a GIRL (or, rather, a woman). Yeah, she did it. Very convincing. But the real story is that really that she wrote a funny, touching, believable story about a character I wish I knew. Good show!
A realistic peek at the HIGH DRAMA OF HIGH SCHOOL! Funny, sad, and a great read!.......2006-08-11
This book not only "swooshed" me back in time to my own high school days, but it also brought memories of my children's high drama of high school. How little reactions (both mental and physical) have changed since then ... and I confess, that was a looooooong time ago.
Although Storky's a male, and I'm a female, this author brought not only Storky's feelings but the feelings of all the characters into this story ... in funny and pathetic ways of which we can all relate.
And, YES, like most teen boys from time immemorial, there's the inevitable Miss Popular for Storky to lust after, an insensitive father ... and the other high school problems that will trigger the memories of all who read this well-written book. This is a page-turner for teens and for their parents and grandparents, also. I could see the "comic tragedy" of teens shining through the pages AND, in hind-sight, the healthy learning experiences for Storky and the realistic characters in this book.
I recommend this book for ALL AGES. It was a nostalgic trip down Memory Lane for me. A great job, Debra Garfinkle! Keep 'em coming; you have found your niche.

A Scrabble Classic.......2000-07-20
I got this book from my local library (I already have "Everything Scrabble") to see if I could learn anything new. Could I! Hinch has done a wonderful job giving the development and background of the Scrabble game while combining it with excellent advice on strategy and vocabulary building. While some of the advice and material is outdated (this book was published prior to the development of the official Scrabble Dictionary and when the Scrabble Association was still using Funk & Wagnall's as the official dictionary resource rather than Merriam-Webster's), Hinch has what I think are the best board illustrations of strategy and his chapter on variations of the Scrabble game (like Ecology Scrabble!) are worth the price of the book alone.
Perfect for all skill levels.......1998-03-13
Gives a good history and good strategy. Covers word placement, arrangement, 2 letter word vocab, and has slightly dorky humor. Great book
Book Description
If ever you have been humiliated playing word games, wondered how some players seem to pull seven-letter words out of a hat, questioned what your favorite game words meant, or simply could use a humorous, mentally stimulating way to rapidly recall key bonus words, then The Amazing Illustrated Word Game Memory Book is for you. This volume organizes letters in groups of six, the so-called six-letter stems, according to those most likely to lead to seven-letter bonus-scoring words. The letters of my central seven six-letter stems; INEAST, RNEAST, IREAST, INRAST, INERST, INEART and INEASR, are ones that are highly likely to show up in scrambled array in a word-game-seven-letter hand, and are the ones most likely to generate seven-letter bonus words. For example, add any letter, except J, Q or Y, to INEAST and one or more of the seven-letter words in the official word-game lexicon show up, but of course you have to know them and quickly unscramble them to be able to use them. In this volume these words are mentally filed for instantaneous recall through the use of coded, dramatically humorous stories and pictures. Active participation on the part of the reader in the form of reading, reciting, writing and coloring is used to trigger memory traces in both the right and left-brain. Mental visualization of pictures is used to reinforce photographic memory. And the humorous, dramatic or sometimes politically incorrect stories that go with the pictures are used to reinforce emotional memory traces. In addition the stories and the seven-letter words that go with the stories are organized according to an alphanumeric code that helps create a mental filing cabinet for rapid retrieval of the words in question. A method of play that will further increase the chances of forming bonus-scoring game-words is also given.
