Book Description
ugely popular in both hardcover and board book formats (over 100,000 copies sold), this fun book is now available in a new paperback format. This is an absurdly funny story that children will want to sing, chant, read, and clap to again and again.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book for 15-24 month olds!.......2007-01-10
My daughter can not get enough of this book! She loves all of the repetiton and pictures!
Bedtime Favorite.......2005-12-14
My 2 1/2 year old daughter is in love with this hillarous illustrated book. We checked it out from the library and it has become her favorite. We read it two times before nap and again two times before bed. I even catch her reading to herself!I also like it because at the end of the book there are questions and ideas that focus on different areas such as rhyming. I know we will be purchasing this book before we have to take it back to the library.
So repetetive in print that it will drive your child to boredom.......2005-09-27
I wanted to like this one. I really did. My son loves hand clap games and board books so it seemed like a natural fit. He just seemed to hate the repetition in this one. The sounds/words/rhythm are the same page in and page out and by page 5, he was acting like he does when I try to read a book to him a second time to avoid getting up to get another. (He's seen it before and he knows it.)
My kids always ask for it!.......2004-11-03
My 2 1/2 year old twin boys always ask for "Mary Mack" before they go to bed. Although the story is outlandish, the words are catchy, and the tune is great. The illustrations are equally odd, and I don't think the kids learn much for the book, but they continue to want to hear/read it. I sing and the three of us clap to the music and wiggle our fingers in the air between pages. We have the board book edition so it is also durable. I only wish the book came with a CD or tape of the song to help us sing.
Great for the Music Classroom.......2002-09-15
What a wonderfully easy book to read/sing with your students. This song also has a hand jive to go with it, but it is not located in the book. The melody isn't located there as well. A quick search on the internet will clue you in on both of those. A great book to read/sing with your students in the regular classroom or in the music classroom. I highly recommend.
Book Description
Illus. in full color. A madcap band of dancing, prancing monkeys explain hands, fingers, and thumbs to beginning readers.
From the Hardcover edition.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for toddlers.......2007-08-27
I love this book & so does my 15 month old son! I love reading this to him, it's so catchy as is every Dr. Seuss book. This teaches about hands & fingers, it seems there's something to be learned in every book. And the fact that it's a board book, I can let him play with it & flip through the pages on his own. Great for little ones!
Childrens' favorite book!.......2007-07-21
"Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb" has been a favorite of the children in our family for many years. The story expands in numbers and the intensity of the increase builds to an exciting ending with drum-beating monkeys filling the pages! I highly recommend this book!
"Dum dum dum" is smart smart smart.......2007-06-19
This board book is a nicely condensed version of the original. It would be ideal to retain all of the original material (for example, you don't learn Jack and Jake's names in the board book), but it would be too heavy to tote around! The original rhythm and rhyme is preserved, making this version a happy, durable introduction to a book that was one of my favorites a generation ago, and that entertains the current generation just as well.
I love to read it, she loves to hear it!.......2007-06-12
My 19-month-old LOVES this book. She laughs at the pictures of the monkeys. A must read for toddlers!
Great rhythmic book.......2007-05-17
Another favorite of our kids and sure to become a favorite of grandkids on the way! Our favorite Dr. Seuss book.
Book Description
"Schoolyard rhymes are catchy and fun. They are easy to remember. In fact, they stick in the mind like bubble gum to a shoe." writes Judy Sierra in her introduction to this lively collection of traditional playground chants. Included are more than 50 verses ranging from the familiar jump rope rhyme about the mythical lady with the alligator purse to less familiar counting-out ones, from funny rhymes for ball-bouncing and hand-clapping games to "Liar, liar, pants on fire, nose as long as a telephone wire" and other choice insults of children. Melissa Sweet includes bright, colorful fabric swatches in her watercolor-and-pencil collages to perfectly capture the spirit of these funky, street-smart verses that children love to recite and chant.
Customer Reviews:
Good book.......2007-09-14
Nice book. Has lots of rhymes ... some I knew, some I didn't ... some had more lines than I remember... This book just has the words to the rhymes, so if you are looking for the rhythms or the hand clapping sequence (as I was) this isn't the book for you.
Back down memory lane!.......2007-05-17
What a wonderful blast from the page! I so enjoyed reacquainting myself with many of the childhood rhymes from my double dutching days. This will be a great gift for me to share with my nieces as they too will be introduced to such famous childhood rhymes. Even the illustrations made the rhymes stand out fully engaging one to try them out on the playground.

Book Description
Ideally suited to the board-book format, Here Are My Hands invites very young children to respond spontaneously and creatively as they learn the parts of the body. The rhyming text and bold illustrations do more than name the eyes, ears, nose, and toes. By featuring children of many different backgrounds, the book quietly celebrates the commonality of people around the world.
Customer Reviews:
Great choice!.......2006-05-24
We started reading to my daughter when she was 2 months old. By three months she'd sorta figured out to actually look at the books while we were reading and was showing preferences (some got her wiggly and excited, some did not). She's 4 months now and this is probably her very favorite book. The two-page pictures are adorable, the rhyme is catchy, and body parts are one of the very few things in life she can relate to. I touch the matching body part (hands, feet, head, neck, and so on) as I read and she stares at the book as if greatly interested and wiggles and babbles when I touch the body part in question. There aren't many books for really little babies but this one does just fine. (I also highly recommend "Snail" by Fiona Watt and "Everyone's Sleepy" by Ed Vere.)
Sweet and Memorable.......2005-12-09
Enjoyable to read and to listen to, with the added bonus of learning about body parts.
Helpful for early toddlers learning physical features.......2001-07-24
Somehow, my 14-month-old started identifying several of her own physical features (including "neck"!) by close approximations of their names after only 3 or 4 nights of reading this book before bed. Very shortly after, she started pointing out the same features in pictures of animals and people around the house. The illustrations are crystal clear in their intent, with only the last two pages presenting any difficulty (one covers elbow, arm and chin in one breath, and the other is for skin, which I imagine is tough to illustrate). I would recommend this book to anyone teaching the easy body parts to her/his child.
Highly recommend.......2000-10-27
This book was a gift and will be a gift for others from us. It taught my 1 year old through it's wonderful sing song rhyme to it's beautifully colorful illustrations, her body parts in two days. She brings it to me and can't read it enough. We highly recommend this for any age.
Great for Little Ones.......2000-01-29
I'm buying a copy of this book for my new nephew. My son has loved this book since he was 6 or 7 months old and now, at 14 months, he still smiles when he sees us pick it up. The illustrations are realistic enough to keep his attention and the rhyming text is short and sweet. I'd also recommend another Bill Martin Jr book for older kids, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It's an alphabet book that my 4 1/2 year old loves. Weeks after her teacher read it at school, my daughter is still talking about it. We're buying a copy of that too.

Great movment books for primary age kids!.......2007-09-24
Great book for kids of many ages. My two year old grandson LOVES it....but so do my first graders. It's a great book to read when the class needs to get up and move around...it has become a class favorite! I had never seen it until a colleague who joined our staff this year shared it with me. It will be a book I'll be giving to LOTS of people in the future!
Wonderful Book, Wish There Was a Companion CD.......2007-06-15
I originally bought this for my 9 month old, but my 2 year old gets more out of it right now. It's a fun, active, educational book. Because my girls are so young I just wish there was a cd so that we could play it since it's hard to use my hands to hold the book and act out the activities at the same time.
Fun for All Ages.......2007-05-10
I have read this book to various ages (preschool 3 yrs old through 1st grade). As my children have grown,I have always read this book to their class. A 1st grade teacher asked where I got it and I am getting her a copy as her end of school gift. It holds the kids attention with the simple words, fun actions and sing-song type way that it is written. You cannot go wrong adding this to your personal library - it comes in paperback too!
Fun, interactive book for the 2-5yo set.......2006-03-11
Our son (age 2 now, about 18 months when he first started really being able to play along) enjoyed this book so much at a friend's house that we had to buy one of our own, and we've given it as a gift to others, too. The pictures are fun and imaginative, and the simple rhyme is cute, but the real magic is in watching kids follow the book's instructions - turn around, find something red, growl like a lion, etc. They get to practice following directions, hone their motor skills, burn off some energy, and have a sense of accomplishment about doing all the actions - and, of course, the kids just think they're having fun! We love this book!
FUN FUN Book!.......2002-04-07
This is a really fun book! We bought this for my daughter when she was about 1 1/2 yrs. old and it became her absolute favorite! She actually got one as a gift and the pages became ripped and warped so I ordered her the little 'travel size' as I call it, with the hard pages and we took it everywhere. It's just a neat book with lots of actions your little one can do. Highly recommend.
Customer Reviews:
Preschoolers top book - A must for a home library too........2006-12-28
This story is cute - My daugher at age 4 at the time was in preschool and daily and I mean daily the boys would get this book prior to the girls getting it so it was a game every day to see who could obtain this book first...they never fought over any book but this one and the library had lots of books to choose from....anyways the girls and boys were fighting and pulling on the book one day that the book got ripped and the teachers had - really had enough of that book at that point and threw it away to teach the children a hard lesson in life.....meanwhile I had no idea as to what the teachers had done except for the fact that my daughter and her best friend came home crying that the book with the elephant and the peanuts got thrown out and why? the full explanation was there by them and they were devastasted..thinking that my child ripped a book so badly I immediatly went to Amazon and ordered it and sent it in with the two girls one day - the teachers look on their faces were priceless....every year both preschool classes always fought over the book and they were happy to finally get rid of a book that was always fought over ....and here we were bringing a new copy back....it was priceless an another year childrens will still be able to fight over it...tee-hee....I bought one for home and my daughters best friend....so now it is not a big deal if the boys get it right? We have our own copy....must have book really cute and the graphics are adorable.
My 2 1/2 year old doesn't stop asking for this one!.......2001-08-16
My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES this book. Every night before we go to bed, she asks to read "Peanut butter, Peanut butter". She's already learned the rhymes, I say a part, and she knows when she needs to chime in! I also love Nadine Bernard Westcott's illustrations -- I've begun to search for and buy all of her books! Truly enjoyable for both the child and the adult!!
My five year old loves this book and can read it!.......1998-12-02
I had to buy this book because my five year old daughter keeps checking it out of the library. When I told her she had to check out another book this week she said, "Why, Mom? This is a GREAT book!" That is definitely one to have on our shelf. The pictures are delightful and the repetitive phrasing makes it easy to read yet there are some tough words which she has mastered because she knows the phrasing. I wish every book I purchased would pay off so well. She also said, "Mom, if you look at the pictures you just have to giggle."

Customer Reviews:
Hands Down - my daughter's favorite!.......2005-03-04
We actually checked this book out from the library, and while I didn't think my 16-month-old daughter would be super impressed with this book, she proved me wrong. For the past 2 weeks, it's the book she demands to be read to her very first, before all other books. If it looks like she's not in the mood for book time, all I have to do is get this book out and she will instantly calm down and sit still for every single page. She loves mimicing the pictures: smearing finger paints, giving hugs, pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo, and waving hello and goodbye. She loves pointing to all the hands she can find, and since reading this book, she has taken a very keen interest in hands and fingers, which leads us to be able to practice counting our fingers. I would recommend this book to anyone, it's sure to be a favorite!
from SherriAllen.com.......2004-10-30
"Hands can clap while voices sing. Hands can do all kinds of things." Hands Can, by author Cheryl Willis Hudson and photographer John-Francis Bourke, is a celebration of the wonder of little hands.
Hands Can describes and shows children using their hands in a variety of activities. It also shows a variety of hands. There are girl hands, boy hands, toddler hands, "big-kid" hands and hands of many races.
Young children will love Hands Can, with its simple, rhyming text, bright colors and delightful photographs depicting children having fun with their hands. They will want to wave hello like the little boy in beginning of the story. They will want to play Peekaboo like the little girl near the end. They will want to read this book again and again.
Best book ever!.......2004-03-17
The book was well laid out and very enticing for your readers. THe spread on the middle page with the kids hugging 'I love you was excellent!
Great work!
What an awesome book!.......2003-12-18
This is a wonderful book with lots of pictures showing kids doing all kinds of activities like playing ball, planting seeds, etc...and the text is easy to follow for my 14-month old son. He LOVES this book and will go through a huge box of books to find this and will then come sit on my lap so I can read it to him for the 100th time that day. Get this book - it's very kid-friendly.
I love this book!.......2003-08-21
It's a beautiful example of how some wonderful words can sing with amazing photography of children. The layout of the book is bold & bright and an instant eyecatcher. The photos capture the joy of the children as if you were right there with them. My 3 year old loves to follow along & point out all the activities on the pages. Just great! Highly recommended!
