Customer Reviews:
Very disappointed!.......2007-07-10
The cute title lured me in to buying this book although the price was much higher than the other flower girl books listed on amazon.com. The only other thing I liked about this book was the introductory page. There is a place to write the date of the wedding, bride & groom's name along with the flower girl's name. From that point on the book was a pure disappointment. I had ordered 4 different books on being a flower girl and this one ranks at the bottom of my list! It lacks a good explanation of the role of a flower girl, has no story line, and will not keep my 4.5 year old granddaughter's interest for one minute. I tend to think that if something cost more it will be better...not in this case! Here is a perfect book on being a flower girl with a fun story and explanation on what happens before, during and afer a wedding. If you are looking for a book to help your little flower girl understand her role buy this:
The Little Flower Girl (Pictureback(R))
My Kids Love It!.......2007-03-03
Kids don't have to be preparing for a wedding to appreciate the positive, inspiring words and images of the book. I love the narative which includes things like sports, science and entrepreneurship along with the classic "girl" stuff. I even read the book to my two boys so that they can understand that girls are a lot like them in experiences and aspirations.
10 Neat Things About Being a Flower Girl.......2006-03-23
Was a little disappointed with this book selection. Bought as a little gift for my flower girls and although they were 7,5 and 3, it was really only meant for the 3-yr-old. Nice illustrations...just didn't care for the list of 10 things!
How Great to Have These Books at My Wedding!.......2004-12-11
I was recently married and was given these books by a friend. I had several children in my ceremony and I wanted to make the day as special for them as it was for me. The faces on my little flower girls lit up when I gave the books to them at the rehearsal dinner. They read and re-read them that night; they would not put them down! The day of the wedding the girls could not wait to perform their duties and I honestly feel that the books helped them understand the significance of the occasion. Even better, they were good as gold and knew exactly what to do. These books are great and were a wonderful way to wholeheartedly include the girls in the ceremony, as well as give them something fun to do at the boring rehearsal dinner!
Not a great book .......2004-12-09
I purchased this book for my 4 year old niece for upcoming wedding and the 10 Cool things about being a ring bearer for my fiance's 8 year old nephew and was disappointed with both books. The text is virtually identical in both books (which wouldn't be a problem since they are going to two different homes) but the text isn't very compelling and is much too specific. I heard multiple comments of "we aren't doing that," "you're my aunt, not my sister" etc. She enjoyed another book I also bought which told the STORY of a young flower girl -- and she could relate to "she's just like me" instead of the confusing first person narration of this book. It DOES make a difference to a child if the narration is first or third person since they often view characters in stories as friends.

Customer Reviews:
Great Keepsake!.......2007-09-26
I bought this for my nearly one-year old son to begin marking his Birthday celebrations. Everyone I've shown it to thinks it's a great idea and the perfect way to keep track of Ryan's first 12 Birthdays. Although it won't hold much, I just wanted it to hold invites, thank you cards and a few photos, and it will definitely do that and more. I've been thinking of buying it for all of my friends' kids, too.
Great keepsake.......2007-06-27
This was a great book to purchase for birthday keepsakes. I gave it to my daughter for our grandaughter's first birthday. It was appreciated because it gave her a place to keep the invitation, pictures, etc.
Not exactly what I wanted...but ok.......2007-06-01
Several years back, I saw a birthday memory book at Hallmark. I bought it as a gift for several friends. I looked everywhere for it but had no luck. I found this one on Amazon. It is ok but not exactly what I wanted. I wanted something more 'child-like.' This is very nice but doesn't really scream "I'm a kid!"
What a great idea!.......2007-01-15
I have seen all the school years books for memories but have never seen one for birthdays. My mother sent this up to us and I love it. There are pockets to store cards from the birthdays, pictures, an invitation from the party and some favors you may want to keep too. Obviously there is a limited amount of storage space but I love it. You fill in the age they were for each birthday (great b/c I didn't have this for her first bday). There are also spots for you to tell about their bday, about the party, what you did and ate, highlights from the day, gifts and who gave them, and a place for special memories and hopes for the past/upcoming year. Then you sign it or whoever fills it in signs it. I really love this book! I think I will buy more for family and friends.

The Malones live on Barberry Street in a large, wide-bosomed gray stone home. Customer Reviews:
AMAZING SERIES!! IS A MUST READ!.......2006-06-24
I got the entire series this past Christmas. I had read the first 2 because although my library had more, they didn't have all of them, and they didn't have the 3rd and I don't like to read things out of order so I was really sad. So then I was soo happy to find out they were being republished by Image Cascading!!!
So yea I read them all and they all rock!!! It's nice seeing what teenagers did back in the 50's. And it was also nice how different people's relationships were with their family's, I wish it were more like that today. And they are also way more responsible and mature then we are now. Making their own money, not having to depend on their parents for everything. And their parents respect and trust them more too! And they definatly treat their parents with much respect which is ALOT more then I can say about kids of today.
The first book is about Beany's older sister, Mary Fred. It is in MF's junior year of highschool, when Beany is in 8th grade. The rest of the books are all about Beany, in highschool, college, and then when she gets married. And let me just say I LOVE who she ends up with. They are SOOO cute!!!
Everyone should read these books they are amazing and are definatly one of my favorite books ever!

Customer Reviews:
Great Book, so funny!.......2007-09-24
My daughter is 2 and loves this book along will all of Sandra Boynton's other books. She can't get enough of them. You will laugh so hard when you read them all. She has a wonderful since of humor and the books are very easy to read. My daughter has many of them memorized already, so do my husband and I from reading them over and over. This book along with her other ones are a must have.
Birthday Monsters.......2007-06-18
My son loves all of Sandra Boynton books...it is a great Birthday book for a boy or a girl!!! I always keep a copy on hand for birthday parties that are short notice!!!
One of the best of Boynton.......2006-12-28
Once our family got hooked on Boynton we had to have all of them. This is one of my favorites and the one that my 2 year old and 4 year old ask to have read to them just about every day. I think we love this one just because it's so much like birthdays at our house.
It's fast pace is great for toddlers and preschoolers. Boynton books are generally great to start out with as early as possible, but even if you don't pick up your first one until your child is a preschooler they can be great for learning to read. They're very quick to memorize.
Wonderful Book!.......2006-08-29
I bought this book for my daughter's 2nd birthday and she absolutely loves it. She can "read" the book word-for-word as I turn the pages because we've read it so often!! Sandra Boynton is a fantastic author. We have a bunch of her books and they are definitely my daughter's favorites (and mine too).
Just funny........2006-07-07
It is a funny, an entertaining book. Story and pictures are very cute.

Book Description
For his birthday, Duck's animal friends give him a swimming suit, a diving board, and a slide, but it is not until Tortoise arrives with an inflatable pool that they have something to swim in.
Customer Reviews:
Just Ducky!.......2000-11-07
Duck celebrates his birthday with animal friends in this beautifully illustrated book for younger children (from about age one to five). The animals bring him gifts:
"Duck got a ball that was pumped full of air. And a scuba mask, and a watch to wear And suntan oil to rub on his beak So it wouldn't burn and it wouldn't squeak."
The problem is that most of the toys are for water play, and Duck and his buddies live in the desert. Good thing Turtle brings the present that makes it possible for everyone to splash around and have fun!
The book is both simple and clever. The highlights here, though, are Jan Brett's vivid right-on illustrations of the Southwest: Big, bright, colorful, with warm tones, and enough detail to keep older toddlers interested. An absolute delight!

A fun story, perfect for reading at birthday parties!.......2007-10-03
The Curious George series of books is a wonderful addition to any youngster's library as the stories are brief, beautifully illustrated in vibrant colors, and the plot is simple and easy for young ones to understand. In this book, Curious George gets all excited over a birthday party, and wonders who its for? There are many fun parts as in when George decides to help frost the cake, and what he does with a mess in the kitchen. The activities at the end of the book is an added bonus. A must-have for any Curious George fan!

B-Day Goody Bag Books.......2007-06-13
These were used as favors for my son's 5th birthday party. I added a little sticker inside to thank everyone for coming. It's a great story, a familiar and cuious monkey and it even includes some fun games in the back. Many parents thanked me for encouraging their kids to read and most of all for not giving junk and candy.

My daughter loves this story and she would like to have all of the George books. However, in this story I was a bit surprised when George invited a pack of dogs into the kitchen to lick it clean!

A great little book that my son enjoyed receiving for his birthday. It's a much loved book that already shows many signs of wear.

Book Description
For his birthday, Calvin's mother gives him two tickets to see Lomax the Magnificent (magician and hypnotist extraordinaire!). Even though Mama hints that his little sister, Trudy, would love to go, Calvin doesn't hesitate to invite his friend Rodney instead. The boys return home greatly impressed by the magician's performance. When Calvin's mother goes out, she leaves him in charge of Trudy. It's a job Calvin dislikes because his sister does not want to be left out of anything. So Calvin and Rodney include her—by making her the first subject for their own hypnotizing machine. Much to the boys' surprise, the machine works. But unfortunately they cannot undo what they have done. Trudy is stuck in her trance, convinced she is a dog—panting, drooling, and barking at squirrels. The only problem is, Calvin can't remember Lomax's magic word—Probuditi!—so Trudy won't snap out of it! The boys are worried and decide to take Trudy to the one man they know can solve their problem—but will Lomax help them? Mama is on her way home . . . Who will have the last laugh?
Customer Reviews:
A Fun Story With Great Illustrations.......2007-05-14
From the Coldecott Medal winning author of such beloved storybooks as Jumanji and The Polar Express Gift Set comes another whimsical story in the form of PROBUDITI! With beautiful illustrations and a premise that any child will love, this is another storybook that's sure to please.
When Calvin receives two tickets to see Lomax the Magnificent, a famous magician and hypnotist, for his birthday, he knows just who he'll take with him--and it's not Trudy, his little sister.
With his best friend, Rodney, Calvin watches Lomax perform some amazing magic, most memorable of which was hypnotizing a woman in the audience and having her believe she was a chicken. When the boys return home, they decide they'll make a contraption to hypnotize someone--and who better to experiment on than Trudy?
But when Trudy really starts acting like she's a dog and the boys can't snap her out of it, Calvin starts to worry. And when things don't go as planned and he misses out on his special birthday dinner, the giggles he got from seeing his sister bark and walk around on all fours turns into anger. Especially when he finds out that hypnotism might not have been behind Trudy's dog act, after all.
My kids loved this story. My son thought that hypnotizing his little sister sounded like a great idea; my daughter felt that her big brother missing out on his birthday cake was great payback.
Mr. Van Allsburg has written and illustrated another wonderful storybook that kids of all ages are sure to enjoy. Kudos!
Four thumbs up from my 6 year old and me.......2007-03-26
I borrowed this book from our local library knowing nothing about the book but enjoying previous works by the author. The cover was a little 'strange' but, upon reading the story of this young boy and his friend who are mesmerized by a hypnotist who turns a woman in to a chicken, it made sense.
Someone has posted concern about the image of the sister, who has been turned into a dog, is on all fours drinking out of a bowl. I didn't see it as a racial stereotype. Nor did I look at this book as some sort of racial issue - especially at the end when we get 'the pay-off' and realize that, while she might be younger, Trudy is very one smart cookie!
Our household is multi-racial. Add to that the fact that I am trying to raise a strong daughter. I found nothing offensive in this story. But, perhaps we do things differently in our household. We don't talk about people in terms of color in our house. We talk about people in terms of character. Who is good? Who is bad? Who doesn't pay attention to their parents? What reason would be good enough to not listen to the teacher? Things like that. When I read to my daughter, I also ask her open ended questions to start a dialogue. She enjoyed the story very much and so did I.
Probuditi.......2007-03-22
This is an excellent book for all ages. The story is funny and leaves room for imagination!
Great Book!.......2007-01-12
This book is awesome. It's great as a read aloud and kids really get into the story. It's truly for a wide range of ages 4 and up (my 8 yr old loves this one). It's a cool book for boys and girls and I really enjoy it. If you love children's literature-you've got to add this one to your collection.
A vivid, funny tale........2006-12-10
Chris Van Allsburgh's PROBUDITI! tells of two enterprising boys who decide to make their own hypnotizing machine after they go see a hypnotist on stage. Problem is, they are too successful, and turn Calvin's little sister into a zombie. How can they return her to normal, and what will their mother say when she sees her daughter acting like a dog? A vivid, funny tale.
Customer Reviews:
Again... not what I expected.......2007-05-29
We ordered this book because there is a Little Einstein episode w/ the same title that my son loves. Once we got the book though the storyline was not the same. We had this happen to another Little Einstein book (Galactic Goodnight) and it's quite disappointing! They took out a lot of what my son loved about the original episode storyline. Thumbs down.
Awesome book for toddlers!.......2007-05-18
My son, age 2, loves this book. He is at the stage where he understands more about birthdays. He talks about cake and candles, presents, etc. He also loves the Little Einsteins DVDs so this goes along well with it. It's basically copying the storyline from the Mission Celebration DVD (see the Birthday Machine episode on it) but it's nice not to have to watch the DVD whenever he wants to hear more about birthdays! The book is sturdy and has thick lift-the-flaps.
Great book for the younger little einsteins fans.......2007-03-11
My daughter has loved the Little Einsteins since she's been about 1-1/2 years old. She has some of the other books but she ends up tearing the pages since she reads them everyday. This book is great! It's a board book with sturdy lift up flaps, so she can enjoy her Little Einsteins everyday and not rip the pages.
Great Book!.......2006-12-25
My kids love Little Einsteins. We purchased this book and Farmer Annie's Garden for our 3-year old, but as it turns out, our 5 and 7-year olds also enjoy it! Our oldest loves to read it to our youngest. It's a very fun book that all our kids enjoy! If your kids love Little Einsteins, this is a good one.
Racism and Sexism in Little Einsteins.......2006-12-04
I purchased the entire set of "Baby Einstein" for my baby twins, so was sorely disappointed in the "Birthday Machine" from the "Little Einsteins" series, and will never purchase another DVD from the series. Although fun to watch and mildly educational, I found the racial and sexual stereotyping a turn-off. We are white, and my twins are male, but I don't want to expose them to this subtle form of discrimination. Where is the creator from "Baby Einstein"? Girls played a prominent role in that series, and minorities were treated with more respect.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderfully whimsical read, hilarious sub-text, great for kids.......2007-02-17
This is a wonderful story, I love Hoban's books as they work well on both the adult and the child levels. This is bascially the story of Frances, a badger who is struggling with the fact that her little sister Gloria is having a birthday. Frances does not say it out loud, but rather through her actions and her little rhymes we realise that she is unhappy about it, that her sister seems to have all the birthdays and she doesn't have as many. Something which almost all children struggle with at some stage or another.
The lovely hting about this book is that the parents are so lovely and patient, and the sub-text is really fun for adults reading it. What Frances does makes for great fun. She borrows two weeks pocket money from her mother to buy Gloria a present, but then she ends up 'accidentally eating half of it - and the other half looks distinctly threatened by her justification.
I will guarantee your family will enjoy this story, and the other Frances stories as well - they are highly recommended as great good fun.
We love the book.......2007-01-19
Our daughter is planning to be an elementary school teacher, so we are building her a children's book "library"
A Birthday for Frances by the Hobans is a magnificent addition to that collection!
TG Wright, Grandmother and Proud of It.......2007-01-10
Is there anyone who doesn't love Frances and all her antics? I have been reading Frances books to children for 35 years. Every time they delight me as much as the children listening. All Frances books are wonderful.
Classic Frances!.......2006-05-13
This is my daughter's favorite Frances book. It has some great Frances moments, such as the "spelling" of various words, the "riding" of her broom, Champ, and Frances's and Albert's discourse of the uselessness of younger sisters. It also captures with such truth the complicated feelings siblings have for one another, such as the moment where Frances announces that she is not getting her sister Gloria a birthday present and then dissolves into tears because she is the only one not getting Gloria a present. As always, Mother and Father Badger are gentle and wise in their handling of their imaginative and precocious offspring. It is no surprise that children have been continuously reading these books since they were published. As an aside, the portrayal of the simple, homemade birthday party is very refreshing in these days of elaborate, over-the-top children's parties.
Excellent ! !.......2005-09-21
This story brings back wonderful memories of when my mom read the Frances books to me. It's a great story with wonderful illustrations. If you've never read this story, you and your child will surely love it and if you have read it, it is sure to bring back fond memories.
