Book Description
Thompson, Strickland and Gamble's, CRAFTING AND EXECUTING STRATEGY, 15e presents the latest research findings from the literature and cutting-edge strategic practices of companies have been incorporated to keep step with both theory and practice. Scores of new examples have been added to complement the new and updated Illustration Capsules. More chapter-end exercises have been included. The result is a text treatment with more punch, greater clarity, and improved classroom effectiveness. But none of the changes have altered the fundamental character that has driven the text's success over the years. The chapter content continues to be solidly mainstream and balanced, mirroring both the best academic thinking and the pragmatism of real-world strategic management. This paperback version of the text does not contain any cases, but it does include 21 readings from noted business writers that support the concepts in the main text portion. Instructors who would like to create their own case packets to go with this book should go to www.mhhe.com/primis to make their selections.
Customer Reviews:
Does not have BSG online code.......2007-05-06
Same contents as the hard cover edition but this version does not come with BSG online access code. If you will need to play the Business Strategy Game online, you will need to pay $35 extra for online access code.
Language is a bit simplistic, not the type you would expect in a business textbook.
Easy read.......2007-04-01
This book is fairly easy to read. Lots of good/useful case studies.
Exellent condition.......2007-03-23
Book was in great condition. Received exactly as described. Top class seller.
The authors should find a different editor........2007-02-05
This book contains a lot of valuable information on market strategy. The content of the book is very useful, but also very wordy and repetitive. That makes gleaning the book's "meat" a very frustrating task.
Fortunately, core concepts are listed in page margins to summarize main ideas. There are also diagrams illustrating these core concepts. These will help you to skip past the fluffy content.
I think this book shows real promise but is in serious need of copy editing.
Content of text is too repetitive.......2007-01-06
Book was required for an 8 week course. The way the text is written there is too much repetition and information for the course - some chapters are over 50 pages long (10-15 of those pages are used as examples and repetitive information). May be better suited to the standard semester class.

I wish it had been available for purchase three years ago.......2001-01-05
If I would have been able to buy what basically amounts to a near comprehensive gathering of exactly the kind of research I've spent the past three years trying to find....I'd be a happer man with far more hair on my head.
Caveat: you gotta be the kind of person who likes reading this sort of thing. I love reading RFC's so its way up my alley. If you are looking for a Reader's Digest version of how to develop interfaces for complex systems you won't find it here.
But if you are one who seeks to augment your own personal toolbox with the findings of those far more wise than yourself, get out your wallet and buy this book. Its great.
an oxy-moron.......2000-07-05
hey somebody ripped me off!
yes the written content is full of great information, and is highly acclaimed. However the vast majority of the images used in this book are nearly unreadable due to the extremely poor reproduction quality and low image resolution. This leads me to wonder whether the book was printed at kinkos or printed from the high school's 150 dpi printer!
i've seen photocopies that looked better than this! i'm not kidding!
come on.. black text on dark grey background?
were these conscious design decisions?
note... the 1 star is to bring down the average. i bought the book due to the perfect record of all 5 stars, however i don't believe a book on design topics should get away with such horrid imagery for the price..
2 of the 3 authors for this book are from xerox... i wouldn't doubt they used thier own xerox machine to reproduce the graphic designs found within the pages inside the cover.
INDISPENSIBLE SURVEY OF THE FRONTIERS OF INFOVIZ.......2000-01-11
Stuart Card, Jock Mackinlay, and Ben Shneiderman, all extraordinary leaders in creating and researching the field on human-computer interface design, have pooled their editorial judgment to create a comprehensive, and much-needed collection of pioneering articles on information visualization. They have produced remarkable survey of such topics as context, mapping, spatial metaphors, interaction, navigation, and visual tools.
680 pages! 47 articles! Filled with excellent choices of research and invention woven together with incisive summaries of the widely disparate, individual software accomplishments of the leaders of the field from around the world. This indispensable collection not only provides in-depth solutions to specific problems but also shows the explorer where the current frontiers are.
A rich, solid, impressive, and welcome contribution to a field that affects all of our lives now that the interactive graphic computer has made all of us users of visual language. Altogether indispensable for the researcher and innovator who will return to this remarkable collection again and again.
--Robert E. Horn, author, "Visual Language: Global Communication for the 21st Century" and visiting scholar, Program on People, Computers and Design, The Center for the Study of Language and Information, Stanford University.
We must learn to challenge icons........1999-02-27
This book enters our sensibilites.
We must learn to challenge our vulnerability toward icons. In order to take our place in the upcoming era, we must recognize how many burdens we have carried because we have reacted to iconography --a phenomena far deeper than mere affection toward slogans and images. A healthy human intelligence is adaptive not reactive. We must recognize the terrible demand upon us to develop a serious forethought.
The approach and language of this book stimulates our desire to develop appropriate tools and poo-poos the fashions of populism --a phenomena at its worst in current computing circles!
We're being drawn into using the computer for JUNK. This book asks us to grow up. Great idea!
An excellent collection with great chapter overviews.......1999-02-18
This is an excellent reference to the field. It brings together many of the classic papers published over the last 10 years or so. The editors provide a terrific overview and introduction to each of the chapters. These overviews alone would make a good book. Together with the collected papers, it is a welcome addition to my library.
Book Description
Learn to Read Tells to Increase Your Chances of Winning! Anyone can win in poker if they hold the best cards; the trick is to win when you don't! That's where tells come inthose subtle ways in which opponents betray themselves through body language, table talk, chip moves, eye contact, and more.

You'll learn when your opponents are bluffing, when they aren't, and why by improving your ability to read their speech patterns and mannerisms. Tells are rarely obvious, and it takes concentration to find them, but this book will teach you how to identify them and use them to your advantage. Ultimate Guide to Poker Tells is a must-read for anyone who wants to improve their play.
Customer Reviews:
Good book, but it doesn't have anything really new........2006-06-30
The strategies and facts in the book are well-presented and well-written, and there are several good tidbits of information inside... But as far as being what its title suggests, well, I reckon it's good marketing. It does provide much of the information from Caro's original "Book of Tells" and expands on some of it, but as I wrote a moment ago, it doesn't have anything that someone who's been playing live (not online) poker for a year or so wouldn't know already -- other than a few bits here and there.
I'd recommend this book to beginners and studious amateurs.
Eye-opening Book Helps an online player shift to casino play.......2006-05-26
I am an online player and therefore very familair with hand percentages, pot odds and basic betting strategy. However, in a live game I sometimes feel a little out of my element. This book opened my eyes to much of what I needed to pay attention too. To fully appreciate the book, you must have a pretty good knowledge of the game, but the book was helpful in that it put a lot of what happens at a live table in context. One would think some of the observations are obvious, but knowing what to look for and pay attention to truly does allow you to better trust your gut and instincts during a game. I don't even look at my cards until I have to anymore. Rather I study the table based on techniques garnered form the book. Not only do learn about the other players at the table through observation, but it helps you set up a strategy for your own behavior when its your turn. Bottom line...highly recommended for the fairly new but serious player.
Good stuff.......2006-05-24
This book isn't about strategy at all. It's about playing the players, and all the funky stuff they do. I haven't seen anything else like it (and I've read alot of poker books). It made me smile with recognition, as all the stuff I knew about how players act was on the page. A quick read and miles from the usual odds and outs!
New and different.......2006-05-23
I've been playing for about a year and a half, mostly tournaments and mostly online. But I have recently played a couple of live events and also play in a regular home game. I've read several of the strategy books mentioned by the other reviewers here and thought Harrington and Gordon were both great. But I don't agree that the Ultimate Guide to Poker Tells is bad -- granted I haven't read the Caro book, but I got a lot out of this one. The whole idea of how tells occur and how to look for individual ones was new -- I'd noticed some of the things they mention, or read about it as part of other books or articles, but I thought there was a lot of good stuff gathered here. I'm giving it five stars, because for me it was definitely a shortcut to reading tells in live games. Based on the other reviews, I'm guessing that more experienced live game players may already know alot of this stuff. But I think that paying $14 was a bargain vs. the price of learning this stuff "the hard way".
Dissappointing.......2006-05-23
Not much information here that one doesn't already know. Cheesy pictures of senarios of what I guy looks like bluffing and not bluffing. Don't waste your money. Take that money and go play some no limit poker, buy Harrington's books or Phil Gordon's Little Green book. If you want the best book on POKER TELLS, hands down Caro's Book of Poker Tells is what you need.
Postscript: I have to agree with J. Rubino. I expect to get blasted for only giving it a 2. In my opinion, I was being generous with a 2. Notice the people who give 5 stars. They always seem to give 5s on everything they read. Its not unusual for the author to come on here and down grade a review by an unbias reader. They know their book is being sold here. This book is sub-par. Save your money.

Book Description
This book and deck provide an important key to past life recall. Each of the 28 images is a visual representation of a particular world culture that will bring into focus the times and places of previous incarnations. The symbols of the Phoenix Deck will trigger unconscious memories that will enable you to see yourself more clearly and help you develop latent talents, identify lessons that must be learned, and explain irrational fears, attractions, and impulses.
This is the first divinatory tool especially created for studying past lives to better understand the present.
Customer Reviews:
My Intuition Was Completely Right!.......2007-01-25
I was drawn to these cards when I first read about them on some random website. I had to have them! After searching every bookstore in all of my neighboring cities and not finding them, I decided to make my first online purchase.
These cards are absolutely amazing! They are much more than I could've hoped for, and well worth shopping online for!
I've done readings on myself, and although they tell me what I already know, they also tell me what I know but was afraid to face. The readings validate my feelings and intuitions.
My friends that I've done readings for (totalling in the 50's) have been absolutely amazed by the accuracy of the cards I've drawn for them. I've only had two people, out of over 50 people, who have said that the reading was not right for them. To me, that is absolutely amazing!
I would recommend these cards to anyone who wants to explore their inner self and essential spirit and soul. These cards are a remarkable tool to help a person begin that journey.
The past is never really past..........2005-01-09
I don't know whether to be alarmed or amused at the reviewers who find this deck limited to one use, but it does make me wonder about their view of work with past lives. This is NOT a deck to tell you that your name was Mary Smith-Jones-Brown and that you were born in Dublin-Cairo-Edinburgh in 1835-1637-3500BCE. Past-life regression and hypnosis may help you establish these things to your satisfaction, but I would caution that even the most competent and ethical of hypnotherapists has to work very hard to avoid influencing subject recall.
This deck identifies 28 times/places/cultures with strongly resonant energy. The cards are exquisitely painted, each in a very different style. The querent looks through the deck, allowing him/herself to be drawn to the most "magnetic" of the images. A reading is comprised of the seven most strongly attractive (in the magnetic sense) cards. The author makes it very clear that this would not be the sum total of a soul's previous journeys; rather, the cards suggest which previous incarnations are the strongest influences on the querent's current life. (So, unless you , your life circumstances, issues and needs never change, repeating readings from time to time is a very useful process.) The readings may also be linked to planetary influences, which I find valuable. Shorter readings combining past life and planetary influences may be done more frequently. Once you get to know the deck, it is very simple, when confronted with a puzzling, unresolved, or "stuck" situation, to draw one (or two or three) cards, asking "What past life influences are most with me now?" I have always gained some illumination from doing this!
This is one of the strongest decks I've workied with in terms of the art and the writing being equally strong. I find the descriptions and interpretations careful and thoughful, with a wealth of detail. I appreciate the way information is presented, allowing the reader and/or querent to feel what is currently resonant -- and I have noticed that my understanding of the information grows and matures as I do. There is plenty of room for further research and learning on the querent's part. The images are particularly useful for connecting to the "feel" of a culture, and they are so beautiful that using the deck is always a wonderful experience.
I would never be able to sum up what has happened even so far in this life with one card reading once, so I can't imagine why anyone would assume the same of several past lives. This is a wonderful deck for continued use over time.
Got as a gift...It was loved by the birthday boy!!1.......2003-08-15
I got it as a birthday gift since the person in question had
demostrated interest in it.
When he opened it he was so glad to find that the cards looked far better than on the web and the book also seem to offer a good reading time.
A Divinitation Jem!.......2003-02-16
This is a wonderfull Oracle! It is so user freindly and simply delightfull! I enjoyed useing the cards better than I ever have the Tarot!. The book flows well and is very insightful. She appeals to the witch in all of us! No matter what path we choose.
This is one of the greatest oracles ever!!.......2002-01-06
This totally answers my questions about my past lives and why I am here. You can do readings on family and friends(just take it seriously). I've been into the new Age\Astrology/Occult stuff for almost 5 years. I strongly reccomend it!! You will be so satisfied

Paperback version doesn't have the cases.......2006-02-23
The only reason I bought the book was for a class and I bought it online because it was way cheaper. THe trick of it was the paperback version doesn't have the cases inside, which go figure, are the most important part of my class. Now I have to photocopy them ore order them offline through my professor.
Well crafted fluff.......2006-02-12
With this books you can:
1. Improve your vocabulary with lots of big, meaningless words.
2. Insult your intelligence if this is not your first take at strategy.
3. Remedy your nasty case of insomnia with overcooked strategy implementations.
The other book (the hardcover version) has some interesting case studies. Otherwies, text is the same, only heavier...
Awesome Textbook!!.......2005-10-23
It was clean, looked close to new, had some highlights but nothing that I couldn't handle. I was really lucky..thanks.
Good Seller.......2005-09-30
The book arrived in brand new condition within reasonable time. Really good seller.
Great Book.......2005-09-10
This was my MBA text book and I found the content very nicely organized with plenty of topical references to recent business happenings which made the application meaningful and raised lots of related issues in the class room.
I would give it 4 stars!

Customer Reviews:
This is just the kind of rehashed, obscuring HOKUM you should avoid!.......2006-09-20
This book is a waste of time. It's interpretations of the symbols of the Tarot are largely unfounded and/or intuitive lunging. As for its treatment on the Tarot's history, this author has apparently thrown her arms up in the "we'll never know" hokum-dance all too often encountered.
So I can slam it, but can I recommend a better source? Sure. Try "The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination" instead, for instance. Or even a moderate degree of personal, serious, research.
You would do better than to accept the speculative retardation presented in books like this. Please. Seriously. This books deserves ZERO stars.
The Complete Book of Tarot: A Step-By-Step Guide to Reading Cards.......2006-02-25
The book had a little too much history in it. I was expecting something different. I have read Tarot Cards since the 1980's, but needed a refresher course since I have not read cards in over 10 years. There are better books available that help you interpretate the cards quicker. It is great in the sense I learned all about the history of the cards and the designs, but the book should have been called something different understanding the background of Tarot and Cards and not making the reader feel it is a step by step guide which I did not feel it was. The small book that comes with the Rider Waite decks give a much better understanding to reading cards and is easier to remember and is not dull. The above book repeated some of the issues several times regarding certain history aspects and I feel it was more than needed. I could see stating something twice but things were repeated numerous times that were not important in reading cards, but history. The very beginning drags on and many places you skim over and many places are very interesting where you say I didn't know that. She touches on the religious aspect of they are not evil as many churches and religious people think and states they actually had a church background in the early years. I feel if she ever does a rewrite of this book it will be much better if she takes the remarks by readers and improves her book.
A great resource for beginners!.......2006-02-24
I am new to Tarot so I found this book to be VERY helpful. It's both practical and spiritually centered. She very effectively takes you through a journey with the cards. You get to step into and learn about the world that surrounds each suit and number group. I really enjoyed her handling of the Major Arcana cards. This book really helped me take in the complexities of the Tarot. It's also a short and handy enough to be a great reference guide as well.
A Tarot Book By Any Other Name . . ........2005-09-10
I think the title may be a bit misleading (unintentionally so, I'm sure). It's not really a "complete" book about the Tarot, since it's focus is on the meanings of the Major and Minor Arcana, with a few sample readings thrown in for good measure. What's lacking to qualify it as "complete" is information about the mechanics of doing Tarot readings.
Likewise, the only "step-by-step" aspect of its treatment of the Tarot is that it walks the reader through alternating segments of the Major and Minor Arcana. When doing a Tarot reading, however, the meaning of the cards is only the starting point. I think a little bit more attention could have been paid to, or even a cursory mention made of, preparing for a reading, rituals, accessories, and the like, as these aspects also factor into a successful reading.
The single most glaring aspect of the book that prevents it from being a "complete" treatment of the Tarot is the author's outright dismissal of the significance of reversals. Even though the author herself might ignore them in her readings, there are enough valid reasons to use them that at least a cursory discussion of the theory behind them would have been appropriate for a "complete" book on the Tarot. (My personal valid reason: if you subscribe to the theory that the cards selected during a reading are the result of and mirror the energies that impact the life of the querent, then by extension, these same energies would also influence the orientation of the cards, which can be likewise interpreted accordingly.)
All that said, however, the misleading title alone wasn't enough to keep me from thoroughly enjoying this book. Sharman-Burke's approach to describing the cards was unique (at least in my experience), with her allusion to mythical figures to weave together a coherent and thought-provoking picture of the flow of the Major Arcana.
I especially found intriguing her description of each card's imagery and how it relates to its meaning. In conjunction with this, the guided imagery exercises she proposes after each card grouping helps allows the student of the Tarot to more fully engrain each card's meaning within his/her knowledge.
Generally, this book is better suited to someone who has previous exposure to the Tarot, as an enhancement to the knowledge they've already acquired, rather than to a novice, who may require a broader, higher level look at the Tarot to gain an initial understanding. For this reason, again, the book could have been titled more accurately, but regardless of the title, it's still a good addition to any Tarot library.
great book!.......2005-06-24
the stories about the Major Arcana are so amazing, i had no idea that the color, items, and the positions, of the characters in the cards could create the cards meaning. The meanings of the cards such as the 4 of Penticles and etc. are hard to remember and learn but it comes with a lot of practice. Great book for beginners!

Affordable Way to Learn from Doreen Virtue.......2007-08-11
This is a super starter's kit for angel reading. You get the Archangel Deck and guidebook. You also get a DVD (about an hour of viewing time broken into short convenient segments). It all comes in a box with felt tray. The DVD has some great lessons from Doreen and you get to see quite a few sample readings performed by her on real people. Even if you are not a beginner, you might still enjoy the personal mini workshop with Doreen herself on the DVD.
huh?.......2007-07-06
how many kits are ms. virtue going to have?! she should have said all of this in the "Connecting with your angels kit"! even if she is gifted with angels, i think she is not giving us all the info. like she wants to give a little info for each kit and then bring out another kit. it's like drip-drip. you know that kind of ploy? i think ms. virtue wants to make tons of quick $.
an absolute must have.......2007-01-02
if you love oracle cards. i use these cards for angelic guidance and find them amazingly accurate. when i seek guidance on an issue, the same cards turn up in daily readings for about 2 or 3 days in a row. they are truly magical and the deck is quite beautiful. these are my favorite cards and the messages are not only comforting, but provide confirmation of what i know to be true. the dvd provided with the kit is wonderful.
Very Beautiful!.......2006-05-24
These are the first set of oracle cards I have used. The kit is wonderful, and the DVD that comes with it is very helpful for a first time oracle card uses like my self! I suggest all first time uses use this kit because it helps you see how to use these cards. But if you don't want to that is ok because you angels will guide you in usuing the cards. They are beauctiful! Doreen Virtue is a wonderful lady, who has dedicated alot to helping people work with the angels! Thank God and the angels for sending her to us! Angel blessings! God Bless!

Great source for teachers.......2001-07-25
Want to stir up discussion after a reading selection? This is a great book to do so. When teaching literary elements such as analysis of character, story plot, setting, etc...this book provides cards to promote discussion in group settings or students can sit at their desks and work independently. This is also a great way to motivate your students into a lessson. I recommend this book to any teacher who would like to spruce their reading lessons up. This book also has very creative prompts that students can relate to.

perfect 1st learn to read book.......2006-07-07
This is really a great book for pre-schoolers learning to read. This has pictures that really tell the story. I read this to my 4 year old once and she was reading it back to me. It has flash cards in the back that are fun too! Max abd Ruby are two fun bunnies that make learning fun! Pick this one up and you'll be glad you did.
A proud mom.
