So Fun.......2006-06-02
My whole family loved this book. I had as much fun as my 5-year-old. It was easy enough for my youngest while still challenging my oldest(8). I love these books and will be purchasing the whole set.
Great for all ages.......2004-09-08
This is an excellent series of books that are great for children and adults. My newly 4 year old daughter is able to do many of the problems and enjoys the focus and accomplishment of doing them.
I love this book!!!.......2002-08-26
Sylvan Learning Center uses it, that should be enough of a testimony right there!
My third-graders spatial skills were not well developed........1999-07-07
She used to go ballistic when she had to mentally form a three-dimensional object from a two-dimensional image. After doing the Building Thinking Skills Book 1, she says it's a breeze. Her nonverbal scores used to be low. Now they're higher than her verbal, which were already high. Her creativity and problem solving have also blossomed since she started using these materials.

"This book is not a book about a toy. It is a book about an idea, a set of values, and a long-term commitment to empowering children to use their creativity and build their imagination."
So states Lego Group president Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen in his introduction to this fascinating, visually exciting tribute to Lego bricks and the people who play with them. Lego "maniacs" are no mere invention of Lego Group's industrious marketing machine. Enthusiastic fans of the ingeniously designed, colorful plastic building blocks do indeed exist, and in vast numbers--as of 1996, an estimated 300 million children and adults had played with Lego bricks since the first one rolled off the presses in 1949. (How many yellow knob-headed Lego people populate the earth today? A cool 2.3 billion.)
The visual wizards at Dorling Kindersley have labored together with the staff at Lego to assemble a hefty, photo-rich book essential to the library of any maniac (or maniac emeritus). The Ultimate Lego Book recounts the company's early history as a one-man operation back in the 1930s and subsequent creation of its first plastic "automatic binding brick," to the contemporary construction of myriad Legoland theme parks.
Trivia buffs will appreciate the playful but detailed graphic time line (first Lego window, 1957; first wheel, 1962; first dolphin, 1995). Everyone will love the pages of imagination-stretching constructions, from the small but clever (an unmistakable Elvis, complete with pompadour) to the overwhelmingly detailed (a meticulous model of Grand Central Station) to the downright strange (a life-size space helmet with visor and gas mask). The Lego universe includes a Mona Lisa replica, a 10,500-piece pelican, and even a yellow submarine. Enjoy! (Ages 6 to 106) --Paul Hughes

I enjoying reading this book and looking to make other things with the helpful ideas in this book.
Creative and Interesting.......2007-02-20
This book is an ultimate hit. The history of the Lego is described and then creations that fit every category are shown. Some of the hints on how to build things are really helpful.
This book IS for anyone who likes Lego's.
Ultimate Lego Book.......2007-01-15
I have 3 boys who all clamor to look at this book. They all love legos and this book has great pictures and inspiration. It's a must for any avid lego fan.
Stars in his eyes.......2007-01-10
We bought this book as a Christmas gift for our 10-year-old nephew [in combination with Lego Crazy Action Contraptions: A Lego Inventions Book (Klutz)]. His eyes were as big and round as Christmas-tree ornaments as he flipped through the books and saw the myriad wonderful things he could build with his treasured blocks. And, with two huge tubs of Lego pieces already in his possession, we figured he didn't need yet another set of Legos... but perhaps something nifty to build with them all. This fills the bill nicely!
For all ages!.......2007-01-10
I purchased this for my seven-year old, yet my 20-year old enjoyed it just as much! Great pictures!

Book Description
Ronde and Tiki are a team. They are twins, they are each other's best friends and biggest fans, and they play on the same football team, the Cave Spring Vikings. Ronde
is #21 and Tiki is #22, always side by side.
Tiki has had seven long touch-down runs this season, and Ronde is proud of his brother, but he can't help feeling a little down when Tiki gets all the glory. If Ronde hadn't been leading the way with his blocks, Tiki wouldn't have been clear to score. Ronde thinks nobody notices the guy who blocks; they only notice the guy who scores. Will the day ever come when Ronde will get his chance?
Written by two NFL superstars, this story of perseverance and teamwork will inspire. Barry Root's glowing illustrations bring to life all the excitement and energy of a great game and a team working together.

My son was very happy with this book.........took him all of 15 minutes to read the whole thing......great book!!
Highly Recommended - They did it again!.......2006-04-11
I ran out and bought this book for my 7 year old son after getting their first book- By My Brother's Side.
This book is equally engaging and oh so sweet as it deals with the theme of teamwork.
Young Ronde feels overlooked as the defensive powerhouse who enables Tiki to go for long runs and make all the touchdowns. Ronde finally gets a chance to be in the spotlight with the help of his coach and his mother when he gets to run the ball in for a touchdown.
This book points out that we all have our roles to play in life and we don't always get recognized. Yet, that is no excuse for us to pity ourselves, and we should still 'Play Proud' as Mrs. Barber always told her sons.
I hope they write more books like this.
Good story about family ;-).......2006-01-12
What a really cute book. I got this for my little nephew who loves it. The pictures are lovely and so well done, and the story is real. It is about family and being there for each other. Of course there is the sport which will keep all kids entertained. It's a great effort from a (cute) very talented Giant of the game. Especially good for little boys, they will want you to read this over and over.

Best Of The New, Best of The Basic.......2000-04-04
This idea book for early education teachers is rich in suggestions for designing effective and appealing teaching-and-learning activities. Focused on pre-kindergarten, the ideas and activities are easily adaptable to the primary grades, and indeed the book prepares the teacher-reader to extend the methods into a variety of local needs and opportunities. Because the authors involve parents in their teaching suggestions, Picture This will stimulate parents with engaging ideas that can be used at home. Entz and Galarza involve the newest technology, but based on the best basic principles -- teacher and students together in meaningful activities, developing language through dialogue, and developing complex thinking through joyful play and work. A wonderful book!

Another great Puzzle Book we read over and over........2006-11-19
I began buying Usborne Young Puzzle Books for my daughter two years ago, at age 4. She loves them all, and we re-read them constantly at her request, even now when she can read to herself. This book is one of her favorites; she enjoys the plot and the puzzles. The story is about a boy who, having studied Egypt in school recently, was invited to visit his aunt, an archeologist in Egypt. But when he arrives, he finds her missing and must using his wits to find the pyramid treasure before the dastardly villain. We highly recommend all 15 of the puzzle books by Susannah Leigh.
Great Fun.......2006-05-30
Each page of this book has a puzzle to solve- work your way through a maze, find what is different, look for something missing and so on. In addition to that there is an overall game of find the things on each page that are scattered around. It is like a "Where's Waldo" book only there is more to it than just finding one man or a few people in a crowded picture. In addition to that it is a story too.
All of the Usborne Young Puzzle books are great for young readers who like to challenge themselves. My daughter who is not a reader likes to sit on my lap and work through the puzzles as I read the bo ok. It is a fun and interesting read.

Product Description
GENERAL FEATURES: 1 to 100 Dot-to-Dot by Sterling Publishing Co. is a great way for young children to learn their numbers while having fun! Learning to count, refining fine motor skills, and having a blast: that's what children will be doing when they complete these fun dot-to-dots. Each cute picture has 100 dots to connect, and youngsters will surely count along as they move the pencil from one number to the next. Nothing's tricky, because the dots follow one another in a nice, smooth, logical progression, not zig-zagging too much to throw kids off course. With delightful images such as a smiling seal, wild-haired boy, and beanie-clad dog, this will become a favorite with pre-schoolers and kindergarteners. This book contains 64 pages with black and white illustrations. Eight by ten inches. By Steve Harpster. For ages four and up.

Excellant Book.......2007-01-24
My 5 year old son loves this book. His older brother got a harder dot to dot book for Christmas and I knew that the 5 year old would want to have one of his own. I originally thought this book might be too hard for him. However, the numbers are right in order so they are easy to find. That doesn't make the book too easy, but it does make it age appropriate. I even think he is counting better after playing with this book. He didn't even know that he was learning because it was so fun.
Great for young children who are learning to count to 100.......2004-05-04
This book uses good quality white paper and has 62 dot-to-dot puzzles in which all go from the numbers 1-100. With each going to 100, it is a great way to learn or reinforce counting up to 100 skills. The pages have only black print on them, so the resulting image may be colored in. The images are cartoon-like silly pictures such as a smiling monkey, a rabbit licking a big lollipop, and goofy animals wearing clothing and making silly faces. There are a few that try to be scary, a mean-faced cobra, a frowning monster and a mean looking sheriff-bulldog.
These are perfect for young children who are learning to count to 100. Older children may find the puzzles too easy or the images too juvenile.
I also recommend for older children, the educational dot-to-dot books by Monica Russo and others by Evan and Lyle Kimble. Fun books for older kids to adult level are the "Greatest Dot to Dot book in the world" of which there are 4 different books in the series.

Oprah Book Club® Selection, December 1997: Well-loved comedian Bill Cosby encourages kids to get creative in this simple story of how your own imagination can take you farther into outer space--and help you chase more aliens--than any TV show or video game ever could. In The Best Way to Play--one of Cosby's three Little Bill books for emerging readers--Little Bill tells his story from a friendly, first-person point of view, starting Saturday morning, when "All of the grown-ups were busy doing grown-up things."
He and the neighborhood kids are watching TV when they see an ad for a Space Explorers video game that instantly infuses desperate longing into their alien-catching little hearts. When Little Bill's friend Andrew gets a copy, everyone is thrilled. However, after quickly catching 100 aliens and getting perfect scores, the kids are bored with the game. They head for their trusty vacant lot where they chase an alien that looks like a cat and proceed to fly all the way to the moon! (Or at least they pretend to.) When Little Bill confesses to his mom that it was more fun to play outside than with the game, she says, "I'm glad. Now go to sleep. Space Explorers need their rest." While the engaging, upbeat story itself escapes heavy-handedness, the message is clear, clear, clear. Varnette P. Honeywood's flat, boldly colorful illustrations are full of life and expression, and early readers will welcome the spacious format, with large type and only a few short sentences on every page. (Ages 5 to 8)
Book Description
Little Bill and his friends LOVE the TV show Space Explorers. And so when the new Space Explorers video game comes out, they each want a copy. But when Little Bill asks his parents to buy him the game, they say no. So Little Bill and his friends go to their friend Andrew's house to play the game. What they discover, though, is that the video game isn't nearly as much fun nor as challenging as what their imaginations can dream up!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent message for youngsters .......2006-02-22
These level 3 chapter books are great confidence builders for those readers just getting comfortable with reading. The story is engaging and the chapters give a sense of accomplishment along with suspense (whats going to happen next). Funny with a good message also.
Pleased with product.......2005-09-17
I was very pleased on the speed of the delivery of the product. It was in excellent condition to be a used book. Thank you for your wonderful service!
A good imagination beats a video game (almost) any day.......2004-03-26
In "The Best Way to Play" Little Bill and his friends find out that their favorite television "Space Explorers" has a new video game, so they all go home and start hounding their parents to spend fifty bucks to buy it for them. However, Big Bill says for Little Bill to ask his mother, his mother thinks $50 is too much to spend on a toy, and Alice the Great thinks he should be asking his parents for a book. The situation is that Little Bill and his friends do not think that they can have any fun less they have the new game. But, as Little Bill's mother correctly points out, asking and getting are two different things.
The point of this Little Bill Book for Beginning Readers, which is illustrated by Varnette P. Honeywood, is that Little Bill and his friends already had a great way of having fun without the new video game when they were waiting for "Space Explorers" to start and were imagining that they had their own space ship sailing through the galaxy. In his introductory letter to parents child psychiatry specialist Dr. Alvin Pouissant points out that using "television as a springboard for creative play" is a great way for children to develop their imaginations and to benefit from physical activity.
Bill Cosby's story also has a message about advertising hype that notes how the actual product is often disappointing. However, this particular point may well be the weak point in Cosby's argument. The "Space Explorers" video game is apparently easy enough that Little Bill and his friends can all get perfect scores. I am sure there are video games out there combine the twin sins of being expensive and not challenging, but my experience with such games has been that they can be the latter without being the former. It seems to me that many of the most popular video games are so challenging that you have to spend additional money to pick up a guidebook that teaches you how to get to the next level. Consequently, the potency of Cosby's argument in "The Best Way to Play" might hinge on the actual experience of beginning readers with video games in the real world.
The Best Way to Play is the best!.......2000-05-22
Little Bill & his friends want the new Space Explorersvideo game! Their parents won't buy it so how can Little Bill &his friends have fun without it? Written by America's most beloved comedian & storyteller, Little Bill Books value of friendships & family. They encourage children to solve problems fairly & creatively...
My 4 1/2 year old LOVES it !.......2000-01-22
For the first time, my son has truly enjoyed story time/reading. I can't explain it, but he just adores these Little Bill books. We have tried EVERYTHING to get him interested in reading and listening to stories. Maybe a 4 1/2 yr. old can simply relate! We all like the values being taught as well as the illustrations. It is a real joy to see and hear our son "read" us Little Bill stories. What a blessing these stories/books have been to our family. Thank you Bill and Varnette!
