Book Description
Birds are so common in everyday life that most people take them for granted, viewing them as nothing more than colorful diversions. Bird Signs shows a different and deeper side of our avian friends. The book presents birds as gateways to self-knowledge. According to author G. G. Carbone, birds are symbols that can help us reflect on events, make nurturing decisions, and focus on spiritual growth. Particular birds exemplify characteristics that seekers can find, or search for, in themselves — examples include the flamingo’s balance and the chickadee’s playfulness. Divided into sections of Bird Traits, Bird Wisdom, Broken Wing, Bird Vision, and Bird Lore, the book contains a wealth of cultural and historical facts, along with guided meditations that incorporate chakras, yoga poses, and visualization. The colorful divination deck contains 52 cards that can be used individually or as daily or weekly card spreads.

Wonderful Representation of our Feathered Friends!.......2007-07-24
I highly recommend this book and card set. G.G. Carbone did an excellent job of describing each one of these different birds. The representation of them was phenomenal. I am very metaphysical, and I feel these were fabulous. I also thought they gave good insight about each bird species from a Wild standpoint too( Out in Nature). I was very pleased with this Set of cards. I have worked with animals very closely all of my life, and I share my life with a Macaw parrot.( Her Card hit right on with the Parrot.) She described what each bird pretty much has shown me in my lifetime. I am so happy that I have these in my collection. Thanks G.G. I will cherish this Deck forever.
The artwork is also Esquisite. Well worth the purchase for the artwork also. I especially love the Peacock. Great CARDS!
I give these cards a great recommendation. I Love them!
It's an excellent pick for any new age collection or card reader........2007-06-10
BIRD SIGNS: GUIDANCE & WISDOM FROM OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS offers a 52-card deck and book written by G.G. Carbone and illustrated by Mary Ruzicka to explore birds and their connections to divinity. These divination cards can be used individually or in spreads - and each profiles a specific bird or aspect of bird life, with an accompanying book providing a focus on bird relations to human characteristics. It's an excellent pick for any new age collection or card reader.
Lovely Oracle Dedicated to Birds.......2007-03-28
"Birds appear in our lives for a reason. Sometimes these winged creatures are here for a brief time and sometimes for an extended stay. We may not always know why a bird appears to us at a particular moment, but with this book and card deck, you will become more aware of the guidance and wisdom that our feathered friends convey to us every day." - From the Bird Signs companion book
As one who has received many oracular insights from feathered friends over the years, I was thrilled to see a new deck dedicated solely to birds. From cardinal to penguin, lark to owl, Bird Signs covers 52 different birds (and thus has 52 cards). Attractively packaged in a colorful, sturdy box that seals with a magnetic flap, the Bird Signs kit also includes a lovely 133-page glossy companion book featuring full-color illustrations.
When I received Bird Signs, published by New World Library, I was truly impressed with the quality of the packaging/storage box, the guidebook, and the cards themselves. In my mind, no one rivals baba studio/Magic Realist Press (Victorian Flower Oracle, Fairytale Tarot, The Tarot of Prague Kit, etc.) when it comes to deck and book sets. However, I have to say that Bird Signs rivals the quality of those kits!
With her favorite mediums being pen and ink with colored pencils, illustrator Mary Ruzicka infuses each bird with gentle lines, flowing curves, and realistic hues. From the peaceful dove to the beautiful swan, the happy bluebird to the adventurous roadrunner, Ms. Ruzicka delightfully captures the unique character of each bird--inviting humans to study them, learn from them, and contemplate their messages.
Written by G.G. Carbone, the Bird Signs companion book explains the framework of the deck, which constitutes 45 bird cards and 7 feathered friends cards. Bedecked with rainbow-colored ribbons and relevant motifs, the special feathered friend cards represent a specific intention, chakra, chakra color, and physical area of the body. They can be used alone for inspiration or with the rest of the deck for additional illumination. For example, the yellow Egg - Birth card addresses new births of all kinds and the Solar Plexus Chakra. The blue Song - Voice card deals with communication and the Throat Chakra.
Upright meanings for all cards are provided, as well as reversed meanings. Ms. Carbone gives a brief bio of each bird, as well as Bird Wisdom (interpretation), Broken Wing (reversed meaning), Bird Vision (how you can "see" from a bird's particular perspective) , and a piece of bird lore (not necessarily about the bird). Keywords, healing colors, and a message is also provided.
Printed on a smooth matte finish, the Bird Signs cards measure approximately 5 ¼ x 3 ½ inches. Flexible and easy to shuffle, the card backings depict a simple, yet attractive, double feather motif with greens, blues, and purples that are fully reversible.
Some of the birds and their wisdom found in Bird Signs include:
* Waxwing - Curiosity
* Hummingbird - Energy
* Robin - Joy
* Flamingo - Balance
* Woodpecker - Hope
* Jay - Communication
* Duck - Decision
* Hawk - Observation
* Roadrunner - Adventure
* Gull - Laughter
* Raven - Illusion
* Parrot - Creativity
* Oriole - Compassion
* Stork - Reliability
* Pheasant - Opportunity
* Heron - Patience
* Eagle - Freedom
* Penguin - Purpose
* Chickadee - Playfulness
Despite the utter gorgeousness of the box, cards, and companion book, I admit that I'm a bit disappointed in this oracle. I did a few one-card readings the last few days, and each time, the message was totally off base. For example, I drew the Rooster yesterday, which is about 180 from how I am, where I am, and what I know to be at this time in my life. For example, if I'm in sync with this card, I'm an early riser, need courage to face the day, and have difficulty getting out of bed.
Nothing could be further from the truth! I'm a night owl (it's wired in my DNA), get out of bed easily, and joyfully look forward to each day that is filled with promise and abundant blessings. (No, not being a Pollyanna here--it's really how I am!) I did another one-card reading, with equally irrelevant results. However, I DID do a 3-card Past/Present/Future spread (called the Wingspan Spread in the Bird Signs companion book), and drew three of the special feathered friends cards. This reading was highly accurate. Go figure!
As I read through the Bird Signs book, I felt that some of the interpretations were too simplistic and, well, *practical* (e.g. "Go on a picnic" and "try saltwater fishing"). Perhaps I'm just used to, or prefer, more psychologically oriented interpretations. Granted, Ms. Carbone provides quite a bit of information--but it seems a bit superficial at times. Maybe I was expecting interpretations and facts along the lines of Ted Andrews' Animal Speak. (If you're used to that book, you may be a bit disappointed with this deck if you're expecting more depth.)
However, I think Bird Signs could certainly be used in accordance with a book like Animal Speak, which provides depth and breadth to animal divination. Also, the bird cards would be great meditation tools for those with avian affinity, as well as a starting point for looking up birds who fly into your life.

Waaay to much talent for one person........2007-08-23
Michael does a great job looking into the Gospel of John. Using his 'own' translation, he intersperses footnoted commentary with a imaginative narrative style that really helps you visualize the scene. We've used a couple of his books for a small group bible study over the past year; solid teaching to match his fine, bible-centered music.
The parable of Joy.......2006-09-25
I thought it would be a typical gospel text, but it really highlighted how radical the gospel of Jesus was and is.
Card's writing is not a fictional story that wraps itself around the gospel of Jesus...but a fluid exposition incorporating the historical cultural practices and attitudes of the time, which adds a level of depth and enjoyment to the reading of the biblical text.
In fact, I enjoyed reading it so much the first time, that after losing my copy, I am buying a second one to share.
Great to encourage reflection on John.......2006-05-20
This book is an in-depth look at the gospel of John. Each chapter begins with a translated passage from the gospel, then goes into commentary or reflective writing - some of which imagines the events as they could have been, not necessarily as they were.
When I first read this book some years ago, it made John my favorite of the gospels and infused my thinking about Jesus with all kinds of wonderful images.
According to the introduction, John wrote his gospel last, after the others had been circulated for many years, and when he was an old man. Rather than tell all about Jesus' life, John selects the very few instances that stand out in his own mind to illustrate who Jesus was and why He came. What Jesus did was well-known; John focused on the meaning of His life.
For instance, whereas Luke starts with the events before the Christmas story and Matthew with a geneology of Christ, John starts out with "In the beginning was the Word..." and "the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us."
This book made the gospel of John more vivid and more dear to me, and in so doing, enlightened my vision of the rest of the Bible, too. It is a great book for reflection and study - and it is a joy.
A great way to look at the Book of John in a new light.......1998-03-25
Michael Card gives us insight into the historical and social context of John's Gospel while keeping it winsome and poetical. He tells the story of John's gospel so we gain insight into the place and time of the writer as well as the characters he introduces us to. Well worth the reading and a good resource for study.

A grand deck that packs a punch on the senses............2006-10-04
I got this book and cards a few weeks ago. I have Tree Magick by the same author and loved it...so I thought this one looked just as enchanting!
I am/was really happy with this oracle. The cards are smaller than the Tree Magick cards (wish they were a tad bigger) but the smaller size makes them more portable. They are a long rectangle shape...so you read and look at them horizontally. The cards also have a little message on each of them.
The artwork is really beautiful and warm. It makes you feel good just looking through the deck. A cosmic hug. They are divided into 4 suits...Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter, with 13 cards in each suit.
The book goes into some detail on the history of faeries, their lore....literary and otherwise. There are 12 spreads to choose from. I have done a few and the results have been wonderful. The meanings for all the cards go into more depth in the book also. Very detailed. And again these cards might seem light or fluffy to some...but the artwork/imagery and the meanings are more complex and deeper if you just look and learn from them.
I see myself using this enchanted, magical oracle again and again...it puts me in a wonderous mood and is very accurate! If you love faeries and you love oracles....treat youself to this adorable and deep deck of magic.
Book Description
The Tarot, a western mystical tradition of divination, meditation, and visualization, has attracted devoted followers for centuries. In The Tarot Workbook we find a fascinating overview of the Tarot including its history, the meaning of the individual cards of the Major and Minor Arcana, the symbolism of the four elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth, and the special qualities of the four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. This illustrated exploration also delves into the connections between the Tarot and the mystical Kabbalah and explains how to deal and read the cards in well-known formats like the Celtic Cross, the Gypsy spread, the Three Aces spread, and the Seven-card spread. The Tarot Workbook is appropriate for beginners but also rich enough for devotees wishing to expand their knowledge of the subject.

The Tarot Workbook.......2007-02-12
Interesting book that anyone interested will learn something new from. It's not a "workbook" that you can write in though, you need another notebook to go along with it. There's just not enough room in the book itself.
Tarot Workbook: A Must For Any Level.......2005-10-25
Tarot Workbook by Nevill Drury is one of the finest Tarot books I have ever read -- and don't let the "workbook" title make you feel like you did doing your least favorite subject homework in high school. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned professional, this book is an easy reference and clearly lays out the Tarot while still being an inspirational spark for the pro. From it's explaination of the various suits, the court cards, and the connection to the Qaballah, the Tarot Workbook brings an easy to grasp light to the Tarot and also a depth and new insights for anyone at any level. Don't miss this one ... mine has been so joyfully used the binding has been worn out and various sections of pages will fall out if I'm not careful. This book goes almost everywhere with me.

This beautifully illustrated deck of inspirational cards features advice from the feline world to their human companions. Featuring a wide range of feline sagesfrom street cats to the most pampered pedigreesthey speak directly to their two-legged companions . . . with the wisdom and advice that only a species that knows it's truly superior can command!

Technicolor Feline Wisdom.......2005-09-30
"We've written these cards to guide you, our human companions, in the way of feline wisdom. We know that it's not always easy being human, and we're happy to share our insights with you. We suggest that anytime you feel that you need inspiration, you just curl up in your favorite chair...and pull out one of our cards." - The feline authors
Cat Comfort Cards is a 50-card deck that is absolutely saturated with color. I've reviewed dozens of decks and this one is by far the most colorful! Magenta, fuchsia, chartreuse, lemon yellow, electric orange, violet, cobalt-you get the picture.
It's a straightforward deck, without any guidebook. What you get are 50 vibrant, whimsical cards that feature a feline-related saying one side and some advice on the other. Some examples include:
Technocat - Learn a new skill. It will open up many possibilities.
Bureaucat - Get that paperwork done. You'll feel better.
Scaredy Cat - Face your fears. They will disappear when you confront them.
Cat's Eye - Open that inner eye. You'll see what's really happening.
Angel Cat - Know that you're loved and protected.
Catharsis - Enjoy the freedom that comes with release.
Catacomb - Look deep inside. Take time to meditate or journey within.
As with most decks published by Hay House, Cat Comfort Cards are of sturdy stock with a glossy finish. Fanciful images, bright colors, and a playful font grace each card-both front and back.
These cards are major eye candy. I enjoyed going through each one, soaking in the amazing colors. Some of the cards were downright funny. One of my favorites is Cata-holic, which depicts a passed out cat surrounded by milk cartons. The message is "Curb your excesses. Everything in moderation."
Cat lovers will go wild over this unique deck. But even if you're not overly thrilled with cats, the original artwork and vivid colors will likely pull you in. Although Cat Comfort Cards are not touted to be an oracle, I can certainly see this deck easily filling that role.

Good Book for study.......2007-04-17
This is a useful book and cards to
learn from and so I do recommend
it to anyone interested in learning
and growing spiritually.
experienced card reader.......2005-06-05
I love these cards, but find the book a duplication of the cards. As with the tarot, I shuffle and feel when to pick out the card(s) of particular reference for the day. Like the tarot and the I Ching, spirit speaks and the message in the card(s) chosen is always relevant to the events of the day, as well as enlightening and motivating. For those not experienced in other methods of connecting to intuition and the gift of prophesy, these cards are a great way to get started. For those who are experienced, these cards augment and clarify a reading. I recommend them highly.
Short summary: New Age pap illustrated by surreal cliches........2002-01-17
This deck of 45 cards purports to reveal the secret wisdom of the universe, but the "secrets" turn out to be the usual stuff. Destiny, centering, creativity, balance, courage-- these truths have been around for a very long time. The pictures are beautiful, but there is a certain sameness and repetition to them. Floating globes, the planet Earth, sky where the ground should be, bursts of light, waterfalls, a lot of trees, flowers, rocks and birds: it's as though the artist was working with a small pile of artistic concepts which he combined in random and different ways for each picture.
Each illustration has an explanation on the back, but I don't think it would make much difference which words went with which picture. The Zen Garden with Floating Earth, the Buddha with Orchid and Flying Eagle, Stonehenge in Space, the Boat and Heron with Floating Globes: these could be combined with Magic, Truth, Essence, Virtue, Innocence, or any one of the 45 descriptions.
The wisdom of the cards is the standard New Age stuff. "Know that the powers of the universe are within you." "Your being is like a spirit lodge." "We are all in need of world harmony." "Awaken the power of your will, and find your joy and your laughter."
I was disappointed in this deck.
Wonderful source for self discovery.......2001-05-12
My cousin bought me this deck and book and since then I have used it in many ways and for many reasons. I feel a real connection to this deck. It can tell me more about myself and others than any set of tarot I have worked with. This is a wonderful way to learn about yourself. It is a great way for self improvement and even my great friend who reads tarot at fairs has started coming to me in times of need because he feels it is more accurate. Wonderful book! Wonderfully written!
Be prepared to learn something about yourself!.......2000-03-21
Lynn Andrews has been a teacher of mine for many years. Although I've never met her, she has taught me more about myself than any other author I've come across. These cards are based on cards used in one of her books, and each one has meaning based on teachings of the different directions. Even if you have no experience with her books or native american shamanism, these cards' images and beautiful words will touch your soul.
Book Description
Wisdom In The Cards is your guide through the Hudes Tarot Deck. Inspired by the artist's use of watercolor, antique maps, and marbled paper, A.L. Samul brings depth to her descriptions of the cards as well as the ancient imagery of Tarot. Affirmations and Prayers accompany each card, offering a simple way to work through and meditate on each thought-provoking image.
Customer Reviews:
The Simplicity of Tarot.......2005-08-21
I love the companion book to the Hudes Tarot cards. Prayers and affirmations are elegantly tied to the wisdom of the Tarot. The interpretatons relate to present life situations that are relevant in today's times. I found the cards a source of inspiration. Finally a deck that I could view the cards and easily interpret them for my personal readings. I found the card and book set profoundly spiritual. One of the nicer companion books I've come across. Worth my money spent, and a wonderful addition to my tarot collection.

Positive and beautiful.......2000-07-15
This set contains a beautiful little book and a set of meditation cards. The images on both are bright, simple and have a kind of symbolism within them. The words are powerful, enlightening and positive. The cards are beautiful and contain on them the goddesses name, a meditation keyword, words of wisdom and advice on introducting that wisdom into your life. I especially liked the range of goddesses represented, including Greek, Egyptian, Indian, Celtic, Japanese, Native American, South American, Australia, China and African (south of the sahara! very rare!) The cards come with suggestions for using them. Totally beautiful and uplifting.
