Book Description
Toddlers can drive you bonkers…so adorable and fun one minute…so stubborn and demanding the next! Yet, as unbelievable as it sounds, there is a way to turn the daily stream of “nos” and “don’ts” into “yeses” and hugs…if you know how to speak your toddler’s language. In one of the most useful advances in parenting techniques of the past twenty-five years, Dr. Karp reveals that toddlers, with their immature brains and stormy outbursts, should be thought of not as pint-size people but as pintsize…cavemen.
Having noticed that the usual techniques often failed to calm crying toddlers, Dr. Karp
discovered that the key to effective communication was to speak to them in their own primitive language. When he did, suddenly he was able to soothe their outbursts almost every time! This amazing success led him to the realization that children between the ages of one and four go through four stages of “evolutionary” growth, each linked to the development of the brain, and each echoing a step in prehistoric humankind’s journey to civilization:
• The “Charming Chimp-Child” (12 to 18 months): Wobbles around on two legs, grabs everything in reach, plays a nonstop game of “monkey see monkey do.”
• The “Knee-High Neanderthal” (18 to 24 months): Strong-willed, fun-loving, messy, with a vocabulary of about thirty words, the favorites being “no” and “mine.”
• The “Clever Caveman” (24 to 36 months):
Just beginning to learn how to share, make friends, take turns, and use the potty.
• The “Versatile Villager” (36 to 48 months): Loves to tell stories, sing songs and dance, while trying hard to behave.
To speak to these children, Dr. Karp has developed two extraordinarily effective techniques:
1) The “fast food” rule — restating what your child has said to make sure you got it right;
2) The four-step rule — using gesture, repetition, simplicity, and tone to help your
irate Stone-Ager be happy again.
Once you’ve mastered “toddler-ese,” you will be ready to apply behavioral techniques specific to each stage of your child’s development, such as teaching patience and calm, doing time-outs (and time-ins), praise through “gossiping,” and many other strategies. Then all the major challenges of the toddler years — including separation anxiety, sibling rivalry, toilet training, night fears, sleep problems, picky eating, biting and hitting, medicine taking — can be handled in a way that will make your toddler feel understood. The result: fewer tantrums, less yelling, and, best of all, more happy, loving time for you and your child.

Love it.......2007-09-11
I bought this book because Dr. Karp's book The Happest baby on the Block saved my sanity. His advise really works, and helped me feel as if I had some control, and ways to cope with an unpredictable child. Even if only half of his advise works for your child it is worth it. Good luck.
Terrible book.......2007-09-06
Here is the book, in summary:
Your child acts like a caveman and pretty much is a cave man in every way. You act like a cave man too so that he understands you and he is happy.
Read the above paragraph 500 times. The end.
Good But Not Great!.......2007-09-02
I was expecting the amazing tips and tricks that Happiest Baby on the Block offered. I liked it but it wasn't as good as his previous book.
not the baby book..........2007-08-09
I loved Karp's baby book! Could not have made it through the first few months w/out it. Do NOT like this one though. I recommend 123 Magic 2-12yr old.
Very helpful with my 2-year old! .......2007-07-12
Dr. Karp provided specific examples with direct guidance about how to respond to challenging behavior. I tried the "fast food" response and it worked. I would skip to Chapters 8 & 9 if I didn't have enough time to read the entire book. These chapters were the most helpful.

What do the Honda Supercub, Intel's 8088 processor, and hydraulic excavators have in common? They are all examples of disruptive technologies that helped to redefine the competitive landscape of their respective markets. These products did not come about as the result of successful companies carrying out sound business practices in established markets. In The Innovator's Dilemma, author Clayton M. Christensen shows how these and other products cut into the low end of the marketplace and eventually evolved to displace high-end competitors and their reigning technologies.
At the heart of The Innovator's Dilemma is how a successful company with established products keeps from being pushed aside by newer, cheaper products that will, over time, get better and become a serious threat. Christensen writes that even the best-managed companies, in spite of their attention to customers and continual investment in new technology, are susceptible to failure no matter what the industry, be it hard drives or consumer retailing. Succinct and clearly written, The Innovator's Dilemma is an important book that belongs on every manager's bookshelf. Highly recommended. --Harry C. Edwards
Book Description
In this revolutionary bestseller, Harvard professor Clayton M. Christensen says outstanding companies can do everything right and still lose their market leadership -- or worse, disappear completely. And he not only proves what he says, he tells others how to avoid a similar fate.
Focusing on "disruptive technology" -- the Honda Super Cub, Intel's 8088 processor, or the hydraulic excavator, for example -- Christensen shows why most companies miss "the next great wave." Whether in electronics or retailing, a successful company with established products will get pushed aside unless managers know when to abandon traditional business practices. Using the lessons of successes and failures from leading companies, The Innovator's Dilemma presents a set of rules for capitalizing on the phenomenon of disruptive innovation.
Find out:
- When it is right not to listen to customers.
- When to invest in developing lower-performance products that promise lower margins.
- When to pursue small markets at the expense of seemingly
- larger and more lucrative ones.
Sharp, cogent, and provocative, The Innovator's Dilemma is one of the most talked-about books of our time -- and one no savvy manager or entrepreneur should be without.

Revised, updated, and with a new chapter, this book continues to take the radical position that great companies can fail precisely because they do everything right. It demonstrates why outstanding companies lose their market leadership when confronted with disruptive technology--and it explains how to avoid a similar fate. Drawing on insights from a number of industries--such as the computer and disk drive industries, discount retailing, minimills, pharmaceuticals, and the automobile industry--Christensen shows why good management often turns out to be all wrong--and what to do about it.

No Dilemma Here.......2007-08-18
It is the typical manager's nightmare. A startup with a powerful idea wipes out all the dominance your large ogranisation had. It can happen overnite and without warning.
How do you stop this nightmare from happening? Well, the answer could lie in The Innovator's Dilemma.

Author of Eightstorm: 8-Step Brainstorming for Innovative Managers
A disruptive view on innovation.......2007-08-09
Professor Clayton Christensen introduced the term "disruptive innovation" as a management buzzword, the whole book spins around this concept and offers very perturbing views on why being a star performer is a major threat to pass the next opportunity.
First, a definition: disruptive innovations are those that offer "less" in the critical performance parameters of current customers. As a consequence disruptive innovators have to look for different customers than the ones that established companies already have.
To make the point a deep analysis of the hard disk drive industry is made. More than 100 innovations are analysed and only 5 are claimed as being disruptive: the progressive reduction of size from 14", to 8", to 5 1/4", etc. All follow the same pattern: the innovation had lower performance on capacity which was the critical parameter for existing customers and innovators had to find new customers, eg for the 8" drive the mini-computer manufacturers instead of mainframe manufacturers. In fact innovations were so disruptive that almost none of the established companies was able to be successful in the new market. Although current players where by and large able to bring forward the other 100 sustaining inovations without major troubles.
The second part of the book recommends how to make disruptive innovations work, with supporting evidence from examples. This are:
-Create a new organization to deal with the innovation
-Match organization and opportunity size
-Allow the organization to fail rapidly and inexpensively and move on
-Leverage some of the existing resources but not the values and processes of the main organization
-Spend time looking for the right customers rather than the right technology.
The surprising learning is that what impedes that good companies cannot profit from disruptive innovations are that they are good at what they do in their main business not that htey are bad. The hot topic is still when a disruptive innovation is comming how can we spot and capitalise on it, and put ourselves in the dilemma of chosing the best option.
A well laid out, thought provoking and seminal work on innovation.
Repetitive.......2007-06-23
It was a hassle getting through this book, but overall it was worth it. A lot of good lessons learned, but he says the same things over and over again. Read the first and last chapters and you'll be fine.
Business calssic.......2007-06-17
The Innovator's Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen is a must read book for any person interested in keeping their business moving forward or for any person starting a business. Christensen clearly exposes the traps that cause successful companies to stop innovating and succumb to innovative new firms. The material is presented as a series of fascinating case studies with commentary.
just great book.......2007-05-12

Would be helpful for bean counters in large corporations too.

Fiske is better.......2007-09-14
I ordered this one with the Fiske and Ivy League titles. This one ranks at the bottom. Information contained inside not as detailed and left us with with college admission questions. Check it out for yourself at a bookstore before you make your purchase here.
This WILL change the way you think about colleges........2007-08-04
This book is a must for anyone looking at colleges. After reading another Pope book "Looking Beyond the Ivy League...," I was already leaning away from any large colleges. I then read "The Gatekeepers" which was fascinating, but leaves one with the feeling that they should be grateful if a college accepts them.
Colleges That Change Lives reminds us that WE are the customer. WE are choosing the school and we should do it by keeping in mind that our children's education is more important than being able to say our child went to Harvard, Yale, etc. There are schools that welcome our children. Why should we put our children through the stress of applying somewhere they are not likely to get in, where they are not likely to get the close attention most of us need to learn better?
The one thing that stands out in my mind about the highly-selective, well-known schools after reading this book is that we assume the colleges are good (and best for our child) based on the kind of students they accept.
The results are another thing. We, as consumers, assume that if the "best" students get in to those schools, they automatically do well and are assured a successful future. What do we base that on? Assumptions aren't enough.
Read this book.
Go ahead - get off the prestige merry-go-round.......2007-06-23
This is a great book. Forget about all you think you know about colleges - it's 99% myth anyway. Learn about some excellent schools (many of which will give you great financial aid) that you might not have thought about.
My son attends one of these schools (Denison U) and it has been fabulous. In addition to very personal attention, accessible profs, small classes, friendly kids, and a really beautiful campus, they gave him an extraordinary scholarship and he was able to do a paid research internship his second year. In spite of having been accepted at much better known (and higher "ranked") schools, he has never looked back.
Broaden your search and start here.
Be sure to check financial solvency of schools!!.......2007-06-22
The book was very interesting and a great guide, we thought. My son chose to attend Antioch College based on the wonderful reviews and his own feelings after visiting the school. The Board of Trustees voted just last week to CLOSE the school July, 2008. Hence, he is looking for another school as I write. I am a more than a little concerned about using this guide again!

Customer Reviews:
Start your day off right!!.......2007-08-21
I received this book as a gift and the reason I'm on Amazon.com is to purchase it for another friend. As always, Pastor Joyce gives the word straight from the bible and then helps you apply it to your everyday life. I love this book and I can't wait to re-read it.
Hated It!.......2007-07-20
Couldn't get past the first three devotional messages. Repetitive, too over the top with Satan this, Satan that. Give me a break. I like her TV ministry message but this book has got to go.
A Blessing Everday.......2007-05-12
I read a section every morning to begin my day, and this is one of the most uplifting spiritual devotionals I have ever read. It makes you really look inside yourself, a good look at how your thoughts can hold you back from what you want to do. I have grown so much from reading this and even bought two more copies for coworkers that were dealing with restless, unproductive minds. A must read for any person seeking out a better life with God, as well as themselves.
Wonderful Daily Devotion.......2007-02-14
I do not own other Joyce Meyer books, so it wasn't like I bought this book just because of the author. It is a great devotional based on her best selling book, Battlefield of the Mind. I like the devotional set up because it is designed to read 2-3 pages a day and that is just right for this working mom. The topic is powerful, covering just what the title says, the battle in our minds and not letting satan win the battle. I have already bought a few more copies of this book for people I know who would benefit from it. I highly recommend this book.
Joyce Meyer always an inspriation.......2007-01-25
I havent been disapointed in any book by Joyce Meyer. She tells it like it is, and a great book for daily reading. 'short and to the point chapters, make for quick reading and food for thought. Love it.

Customer Reviews:
Very Soothing Voice and Music.......2007-06-11
I would have to disagree with Karen K who said the voice and music were irratating. I found the narrators' voice to be extremely soothing and the music to be beneficial and relaxing. In fact, for all the hypnosis tapes I've ever used, this is by far the most relaxing. I'm able to go into an extremely deep trance and always come out with the suggestion at the end (that's how I know I didn't just fall asleep). I only gave it 4 stars so far, but will update it in a couple of weeks when I see how well it works. I've been using it twice a day for two days, today is the third, and haven't seen any changes in my appetite or eating yet. It says to use it for 21 days. I don't know if that means you'll only see significant results after 21 days, or what, but I'll keep this review updated to let you know if I've lost any weight. If not, then at least I have had some incredibly relaxing sessions while I'm listening to the tape.
Day Five: I found when I went to the market I chose only healthy foods and stayed away from the junk food without even thinking about it. I checked the fat content on all food even if it said "light" or "low fat." When I saw chocolate and thought I'd like some it was immediately followed up with the thought that I didn't want to buy it. The hardest part is getting out of the store without the junk in the cart. At home, I've noticed I have not wanted to eat between meals.
Fantastic!.......2007-01-28
After having so much success with Trevor's cd "Your Power Within" I had to try "Relax Your Way to Thin." I've lost 17 pounds so far and it is fantastic! I've never wanted to say I'm on a "diet" and I didn't really want to change my eating habits. But, after listening to the cd, my whole attitude about food and healty eating habits started changing. It made me realize that I wasn't denying myself anything by eating healthier, I was actually giving myself more. The weight started coming off, I'm feeling great and I'm sleeping soundly. Awesome CD, I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to loose weight.
Didnt work.......2007-01-12
This didnt work for me. Maybe because everytime I turned it on I fell asleep. Good way to fall asleep if you are having trouble. Bad way to lose weight.
Very impressed!!.......2006-11-06
I had gone to a Hypnotherapist before to lose weight and did not have much luck. However, I decided to try Trevor's method...and it works!! My eating habits changed dramatically after only listening to the cd twice. It is the most relaxing experience I have ever had. This cd allows you to fall asleep, so I listen to it while I am going to bed. It says that even if you do fall asleep your sibconcious will receive the messages that Trevor sends, without a doubt, it does! I am really amazed by this cd! I am getting ready to order his cd's for exercise and to quit smoking.
Thank you Trevor!!!
Amazing Changes!.......2005-08-04
This is an amazing CD with incredible results! I have always had weight problems, tried all the fad diets and always gained the weight back. Trevor has a soothing, reassuring and relaxing voice that has helped me to really start losing the weight. I have never looked or felt better, and I'm keeping the pounds off. This program has truly changed my life and I owe it all to Trevor. Thank you!

Customer Reviews:
Very Negative Tone.......2007-05-12
Being an investor I thought that this would be worth the read - especially after seeing the names recommending it. It didn't really offer anything new. The big secret insight to give your life back is no real secret (stop investing and basically put your money in the bank when you have enough money to live on confortably - don't keep 'playing the game' forever) and it certainly didn't shake up the way I invest and don't worry, Wall Street won't be rocked either. Overall it carried a very negative tone in my opinion.
I ended up flicking through the last pages and then just put it in the bin. There are better investment reads out there.
This book is an infomercial for fund of funds.......2007-05-10
I was expecting a discussion of diversification such as option strategies, long-short poistions and other hedging techniques backed up by well explained math. This book is none of that. In fact I can save you all the price of the book with this summary: big losses are bad, the market has big down periods, hedging is good but you give up some upside to reduce your down exposure, Warren Buffet is not just a buy and hold investor, he moves in and out but you are probably not as good as he is, therefore invest in a fund of hedge funds and you will get a more consistent return without the large downside. BRILLANT!!! Oh by the way, in case you decide to take his advice and invest in a fund of funds, the author happens to run one. His other points include: day trading is a fools game, if you are rich you should enjoy life and not waste time on investing your own money etc. There is absolutely nothing new in this book. There is however a good due diligence out line for investing in hedge funds in the appendix.
If you are a serious investor that is looking for real insight into diversification theory and ways to do it, THIS IS NOT YOUR BOOK
Helpful financial philosophy, but not enough practical detail about hedging techniques.......2007-04-19
Hi Everyone,
I really enjoyed reading about Mr. Marks investing philosophy. In particular, I liked how he defines the "end game", his attention to risk management, and how he stresses the importance of managing time wisely.
Unfortunately, I thought that information regarding the practical details about hedging techniques was sorely lacking. I think the hedging techniques of individual hedge funds and their effects on portfolio performance should have been explored. For instance, although he mentions Dr. John Hussman in a reference to economists, Mr. Marks fails to mention that Dr. Hussman manages SEC accredited hedged equity and bond mutual funds that are accessible to even average net worth investors (see http://www.hussmanfunds.com/ for more info). I would have very much liked to see a statistical analysis of how funds like Dr. Hussman's might allow hedging of the standard (and in my opinion risky) portfolio that Mr. Marks recommends for average net worth investors.
R. Harazin
P.S. Disclosure -- I own shares of Dr. Hussman's hedged equity fund (HSGFX).
very fragmented review of investment priciples.......2007-04-17
Since there are many positive reviews this book must appeal to some people, to me it seems like a very fragmented approach and re-hash of a lot of well known investment fundamentals. It also obviously is touting hedge funds. It is also talking up fund of funds, which in the case of hedge funds puts the fees into pretty astronomical territory. I generally enjoy John Mauldin and his column, but for Mauldin to recommend this book is somewhat suspect. Serious investors can find better books than this.
How to lead your life and invest you money.......2007-03-22

Lots of mini-cases; Easy to read.......2007-09-28
Only estate book I've seen written in an easy-to-read, mini-case-study format. Very practical and thought-provoking advice. Tends to focus on little worst-case scenarios in an attempt to get people to plan properly for all the things that can go wrong in an estate.
For what it's worth, I thought the book was generally best-suited for estates with $100,000 to about $2,000,000 in assets. Don't get me wrong, there's something in here for all estate sizes - especially for people just starting the process of developing a plan. However, don't buy this book looking for technical discussions of advanced tax-minimizing strategies. If you or your clients have estates over this $2MM mark, this book can be a great thought-provoker, but some of the advice isn't really suitable for larger estates.
Do right by your kids...get this book.......2007-03-15
I have several estate planning books...the "how to" type and they are great. This is the book you need to read before you start filling in the blanks. I wish my parents had read this book. It would have saved my family relationships. This book gives you the basic information you need before drawing up your trust. Protect your beneficiaries and prevent family conflict by reading this book!
So good I bought 4 extra copies for friends.......2007-01-19
Estate planning is so important if you don't want your son in law running off with half your estate in the event of your kid's divorce. This book was a great asset to me ... and a real eyeopener as to what can happen at the reading of your will if you haven't equalized everything. the author even gives you his phone number that readers can call and ask questions free. The book is so good I bought 4 extra copies for friends.
Ditto of "janimac's on April 11, 2006".......2006-12-28
As strange as this may sound, my review is identical to janimac's on April 11, 2006 (except I merely *told* 3 friends about it).
The answer to my prayers.......2006-04-12
What a relief!!! I finally found a book that would help me help my parent plan their estate! Thank you so much for your wonderful, easy to read book. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down! This book has practical, real world examples of inheritance planning issues and considers the "human" side of inheritances. It's a must read if you need to do estate planning. I just came back and bought three copies to give to my friends. It's the best gift I could possibly give them!

Book Description
Leanne Ely doesn’t actually cook dinner for your family. It just feels that way.
Certified nutritionist Leanne Ely loves delicious food and is dedicated to enticing today’s busy families back to the dinner table with home cooking that cannot be beat. In Saving Dinner the Low-Carb Way, she integrates low-carb requirements into her mélange of dining pleasures for every season–providing easy-to-follow menus and highlighting per-serving measurements of calories, fat, protein, carbohydrates, cholesterol, and sodium for each dish.
Itemizing ingredients by product in convenient lists, Ely makes your grocery shopping quick and effortless. She also gives you a helping hand in the kitchen with shortcuts that take the stress out of cooking, and suggests menu variations for children and family members who choose not to go the low-carb route.
The result? These dinners are not only balanced and healthy but truly varied and delectably good to eat. Main dishes like Low-Carb Beef Stroganoff, Crustless Quiche Lorraine, Crock-Pot Pork Jambalaya, Skillet Salmon with Horseradish Cream, and nearly 150 other entrees (plus recommendations for great side dishes) make dinnertime special in more ways than one.

I purchased this book after someone online suggested it to me. I love the way it is divided up into seasons and that they include a convient shopping guide for you as well as alternatives to your normal side dishes.

What a Great Resource for Families!.......2007-03-09
I bought this book to replace a copy I borrowed from a friend and promptly wore out, because it was so handy. My husband is a very particular eater, and he hasn't liked most of the meals I've brought home from the meal prep places, like Super Suppers. But, he's enjoyed most of the meals I've made with Saving Dinner. And, with the menu and grocery list planned out by week, I don't spend the two hours menu planning and making up the grocery list. I even have had success with the crock-pot meals, which I haven't done well in the past with other recipes. (I do find that my slow cooker takes a lot less time than the recipe calls for, so I cut my cooking time by a couple of hours and use a meat thermometer to determine if it's done.)
The recipes are easy to make. The menus are grouped by season so that you can take advantage of produce at it's height. I find the book is most effective when you make every dish for the week, rather than pick and choose recipes. Then you can optimize the menu and grocery list. We've been pleasantly surprised when we do that even the dishes that we weren't too excited reading about have turned out to be tasty.
I may use this book to organize a meal planning night with friends once a month because I do miss that comaraderie you get at the meal prep places. It'll be interesting to see if that would be involved/easy or cost effective over the meal prep places.
Overall, this book is a huge timesaver, we may be able to use with friends to do some prep nights, has saved us money by keeping us out of the restaurants and drive-thru's, and we are around the dinner table more! It'd be a great gift for newlyweds. I wish I'd had something like YEARS ago!
Excellent food and we're losing weight!.......2007-02-19
I have about 30 Low Carb Cookbooks, and along with George Stella's two (which I love), this one is getting a LOT of use. One of the things I like about it is that you don't have to buy unusual items to make these meals...no guar gum, no flax seed, no whey protein powder, no things-you've-never-heard-of-and-don't-know-where-to-buy sort of ingredients. So far, only one recipe was mediocre (sauteed scallops on spinach). But the spiced pork chops tonight were great, and the bang-bang taco soup was easy and tasty. So was the Mediterranean Chicken. I think the shopping lists are an excellent idea, and I also like the idea of the seasonal menus (though I've been bouncing around from place to place in the book, making what sounds good and what's on sale at the supermarket.) Tomorrow's dinner? Chicken in Bourbon sauce. Can't wait.
Low-carb cooking.......2007-01-10
Very helpful book. A lot of great recipes that are not hard to do. The shopping lists tell you just what to get to have meals a week at a time.If I was an organized person that cooked this would be the perfect book to have!
Book Description
“God has a plan for our lives,” but what does that mean in practical terms? How do we know God’s will for important life decisions, like who to marry, what job to take, what church to join? How can we be free if God has a perfect plan for us? Sittser explores these questions and offers a biblically based approach that is truly liberating.

A Must Read For Every Christian.......2007-03-08
I could hardly put this book down.It will change your way of thinking about God's will and is very applicable to life's challenges and backed up with scripture. Life changing!

Doctrine by experience.......2006-08-06
This book was a disappointment. From the enthusiastic reviews, it seemed this book had a handle on the subject. I gave up after reading half way through. Although he does make the point that God is more concerned in how you live your life rather than what you actually do (should I be a doctor or a lawyer, should I move to this city or that?), the author still settles into the same old line in making Godly choices--talk to friends, watch for open doors, etc. The Open Door concept is interesting in its anti-Biblical theme--you stop moving in one direction when the going gets tough. The author explains how he made decisions and then proceeds to give reasons for the decisions. This is "doctrine by experience" rather than true Biblical teaching.
This author never gives a real Biblical basis for decision making, throwing in a verse here and there for seasoning, but never giving a scriptural foundation for determining God's will. Instead, he is over-infatuated with early and medieval Christian writers, giving more space to their quotes than the Bible. I learned nothing new.
For a life-changing study on this subject, read "Decision Making and the Will of God" by Garry Friesen. Not only will it give you a better Biblical understanding of God's will for your life and making choices in general, it is a good lesson on how to interpret the Bible.
Very much needed in today's culture.......2005-10-27
We live in an age where people are fascinated with the future. They can't get enough of what will happen tomorrow, where they'll live, who they'll marry. It's a culture of promised security, where we have confidence that in the days to come we will be significantly well-off, attractive, and liked. Anyone who can give an indication of how or what that future will look like is treated as a god, is flocked to and paid thousands of dollars for even the most insignificant pithy prospect of tomorrow's good wishes.
Even outside of horoscopes and psychic hotlines, this is a problem in Christian circles as well. With the traditional understanding of a God who both knows the future and has a specific, intentional place for each one to end up, the thought of twisting his arm to tell us how it's going to happen is strangely alluring and addictive. People rushing up to altars in a moment of need: "Pastor, do you have a word for me? What am I supposed to do? What if I mess things up and God is hopelessly upset with the life I choose?"
To that and more comes this great book. I won't add to what has already been said, but I would highly recommend it. As a campus pastor, I see so many students who are completely confused and frustrated when you seriously start talking about the will of God in their lives. I wish I could buy this book for each of them.
Wisdom.......2005-10-01
Sittser puts the Will of God where it should be, in understandable terms, as a tangible, attainable state. This is somewhat groundbreaking in theory, and yet it's not rocket-science. I like what he says here and agree with it. His approach is one of those that makes you say, "I knew that, but I never acted like I knew that." or "That makes so much sense, why didn't I see it as clearly before?"
I highly recommend this for anyone seeking to find and live the will of God in their lives.
Book Description
Beneath the national radar, the relationship between citizens and government is undergoing a dramatic shift. More than ever before, citizens are educated, skeptical, and capable of bringing the decision-making process to a sudden halt. Public officials and other leaders are tired of confrontation and desperate for resources. In order to address persistent challenges like education, race relations, crime prevention, land use planning, and economic development, communities have been forced to find new ways for people and public servants to work together.
The stories of civic experiments in this book can show us the realpolitik of deliberative democracy, and illustrate how the evolution of democracy is already reshaping politics.

Though provoking.......2007-03-29
The book examines the changing relationship between Americans and their government. Citizens want to participate in the nuts and bolts of providing government services. The smallest details of mundane programs have become subject of public debate.
