Book Description

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind reveals the missing link between wanting success and achieving it!

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily, while others are destined for a life of financial struggle? Is the difference found in their education, intelligence, skills, timing, work habits, contacts, luck, or their choice of jobs, businesses, or investments?

The shocking answer is: None of the above!

In his groundbreaking Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Eker states: "Give me five minutes, and I can predict your financial future for the rest of your life!" Eker does this by identifying your "money and success blueprint." We all have a personal money blueprint ingrained in our subconscious minds, and it is this blueprint, more than anything, that will determine our financial lives. You can know everything about marketing, sales, negotiations, stocks, real estate, and the world of finance, but if your money blueprint is not set for a high level of success, you will never have a lot of money—and if somehow you do, you will most likely lose it! The good news is that now you can actually reset your money blueprint to create natural and automatic success.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is two books in one. Part I explains how your money blueprint works. Through Eker's rare combination of street smarts, humor, and heart, you will learn how your childhood influences have shaped your financial destiny. You will also learn how to identify your own money blueprint and "revise" it to not only create success but, more important, to keep and continually grow it.

In Part II you will be introduced to seventeen "Wealth Files," which describe exactly how rich people think and act differently than most poor and middle-class people. Each Wealth File includes action steps for you to practice in the real world in order to dramatically increase your income and accumulate wealth.

If you are not doing as well financially as you would like, you will have to change your money blueprint. Unfortunately your current money blueprint will tend to stay with you for the rest of your life, unless you identify and revise it, and that's exactly what you will do with the help of this extraordinary book. According to T. Harv Eker, it's simple. If you think like rich people think and do what rich people do, chances are you'll get rich too!

4 out of 5 stars Mind Over Matter.......2007-10-01

The key to achieving any goal is to mentally determine that it can be done and that you will accomplish it. This book will help you develop the mentality that will increase your odds of gaining wealth. That quest starts out with a bit of house cleaning. The author first helps you to unlearn all of the bad habits that are holding you back financially. After that foundation is laid, he goes on to layout his philosophies the mind set needed to get rich.

I was uncomfortable with his references to the "universe." He seems to use this term in place of God. I've never heard people speak in that way. Otherwise it is a great read.

5 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Millionaire Mind .......2007-09-28

Harv Eker has hit the "nail on the head" with this exciting, upbeat, and challenging "How to" for those of us that want to break out of the poor mentality. I have read many books on this subject but Harv brings new insights into a well writen about arena. He has "passion" about his ideas and suggestions for mastering the inner game of Wealth. My wife and I have both read this book and go back and re-read many time. Good STUFF!!

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-09-19

This book is not about how to invest in the market or any get rich quick scheme. It is a holistic approach to how successful people think and do. Although the topic is about having money, it first questions how you feel about having money. The first part is quite interesting as it gives various examples of how, through conditioning, we have opinions which have been formed at an early age, about money. There are NLP ties throughout this book.

Then Eker introduces 17 "wealth files" which each have various strategies, illustrations and comparisons for those that earn money and those who don't. The message is still clear that you must go and take action as nothing is going to simply fall into your lap. That being said, it begins with the mindset first.

This book is well written, and is a fast read. It is also equipped with many great one liner's, metaphors and stories.

5 out of 5 stars You get to say how it will go..........2007-09-11

This is an awesome read for anyone. It is especially poignant for those who know they have what it takes to make it big; but continue to not master whatever it is that they need to get there. These ideas and concepts can be applied to life; not just creating wealth. T. Harve Eker does a great job of relating to his audience in easy going everyday terminology.
I have been quoting this book since the very first day I listen to the CD. This is a well done first rate book; buy it for your Dad, your Mom, your Brother, Sister; anyone that you care about.

4 out of 5 stars Good material and an easy read.......2007-09-05

T Harv presents many time honored principles about how your way of thinking affects the reality you live. Who can argue with the idea that having a positive attitude about money (or anything else) is a good thing? He gets to the root of the problem with his idea of the "Money Blueprint" and then goes on to inform of various other ways we sabotage our path to wealth. The hit-yourself-in-the-forehead-and-declare-that "I could have had a V-8" (OK OK ... "I have a millionaire mind!") is a little hokey but it does reinforce the idea presented and encourages the reader to DO SOMETHING.

Focusing primarily on money is one of the limitations of this and many other similar books ... there is a lot more to our quality of life than money. But, since money impacts so many aspects of our lives, it's something we all have to deal with. The book has some great ideas, many useful quotes and one liners about how to think "better" about money and is easy to read.

Definitely worth the effort in any event.

Book Description

5 out of 5 stars A Context the Opposite of What We're Told .......2007-08-17

As an ex-international banker who quit banking for the same reasons John Perkins quit being an Economic Hit Man, I can vouch for the truth of every essay in this fine book. The underlying truth is: the world is increasingly run by the corporatocracy, and it has negligible concern for either the poor countries it purports to help nor the environment in which it functions. The truth is the opposite of what we would like and pretend to be true. And the corporatocracy doesn't just behave as it does in foreign, underdeveloped countries, it behaves the exact same way here at home. The mortgage scandle is the same kind of hustle - selling bad debt to unsophisticated borrowers and investors. The only difference is that the poor people who default on their mortgages don't have natural resources the lenders can now take. Fascism redux.

This is a brilliant book. One can already see how the corporatocracy is ignoring it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

4 out of 5 stars The Dark Underbelly of International Economics.......2007-06-27

In CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN, John Perkins outlined his 20-year career as agent of the government and multinational corporations as they attempted to (and succeeded in) exploiting lesser-developed countries. That book, published by Berrett-Koehler in 2004, painted a rather gloomy picture of the dark side of globalization - in theory, a worthy endeavor.

A GAME AS OLD AS EMPIRE, edited by Steven Hiatt with an introduction by Mr. Perkins, continues the story of this exploitation, abuse, and waste in the name of "globalization." Let me say - as an aside - that I remain a proponent of globalization within the context of responsible stewardship. Removing barriers to trade, offering educational, vocational, and economic opportunities to men and women of all nations, is a good thing. Done properly, economic development and stewardship offers the possibility of true societal progress, ennobling humanity, enriching lives, nurturing the environment and increasing business activity and profits.

Unfortunately, the reality is far different from the ideal. The shortsightedness and greed of political and leaders - focused only on personal enrichment or the next quarter's operating results - leads to a culture of global exploitation. The pattern is familiar: special interests descend like locusts, consume everything in their path, and then move on, leaving a wake of destruction, degradation, and despair.

The book presents a compelling exploration of these economic and human abuses through other voices, most of those voices from men and women that participated for a time in the dance of exploitation for their temporal masters. The individual essays focus on a number of issues ranging from the stranglehold of foreign debt, the culture of ineptitude and corruption in many aspects of international banking, and the unconscionable extraction of natural resources (as in the Congo) at the high cost of human life and economic prosperity.

A GAME AS OLD AS EMPIRE is expectedly one-sided in that it shows only the abuse and corruption of international economics. There are many businesses that operate with high-principles and integrity (while maintaining high earnings for both its management as well as other constituents). However, the book serves an important purpose in that it shows that all is not sunshine and roses in the global economy. There is corruption, waste, incompetence, and short-sightedness that is unacceptable from not only a human standpoint, but from a business valuation perspective as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who seeks to undertake an intelligent study of the state of international economics in the real world.

5 out of 5 stars A revealing survey.......2007-05-10

A GAME AS OLD AS EMPIRE: THE SECRET WORLD OF ECONOMIC HIT MEN AND THE WEB OF GLOBAL CORRUPTION comes from the author of the best-selling CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN and expands upon the prior book's theme. Where CONFESSIONS was fueled by the author's revelations of economic secrets, A GAME AS OLD AS EMPIRE is joined by other journalists and investigators who tell their own stories of a world-wide web of deliberate corruption, even narrowing topics down to specific countries and how they've been subverted. The result is a revealing survey which expands well upon the popular theme of CONFESSIONS and which deserves a spot in any academic or community library's business, economics, or social issues collection.

5 out of 5 stars A Story that Deserves to be Told.......2007-05-08

This book should be mandatory reading for college students. Through the various essays--written by real people involved in the various aspects of modern empire--the reader gains an understanding of the real work (and damage) done by multilateral development agencies, offshore banks, and global trade organizations. If we want to build a better world and a better future for our children, it is critical we all understand how these various institutions of the global elite affect the global poor.

4 out of 5 stars Weighty, serious reading.......2007-04-29

Well, I certainly can't add more to the details of the book than what C. Middleton said, but I would like to say a few words comparing this to the first book, since in many ways it is the successor to John Perkins' entertaining first-person tale, "Economic Hitman".

"Old As Empire" is a collection of stories reporting on the global economic condition that are not far from the type of writing you might see read in Foreign Affairs magazine or Noam Chomsky's books. The tales, which are told in the third-person as often as the first, have little entertainment value; they're almost pure information, revelations of capitalist corruption and warlord dominance that are contemporary and all too relevant in exposing how the world actually works.

If "EHM" felt a bit light and historic, this collection of stories is weighty and newsworthy - but don't go looking for a spy angle on this one. If you're a serious foreign newshound, this is good stuff - but for all the talk of revealing personal stories about "other EHM's", there really aren't many - it's mostly about corruption at the company and government level, rather than a collection of James Bonds doing the bidding of their corporate masters like EHM was.

Product Description

In pre-1990s Las Vegas, casino marketing executives were all cut from the same cloth; sharply-dressed and smooth-talking with street-savvy. They rose through the ranks of operations--dealer, floorman, pit boss, shift boss and casino manager. When it was time to leave the trenches, they went "upstairs" into the executive offices, where they hosted a handful of established players according to the unwritten rules of old-school Vegas. Then Steve Cyr showed up.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Whale of a Book.......2007-09-11

Take a spectacular author writing about a spectacular person and you end up with a spectacular book!! This is an incredible read...it is by far the best book on high rollers and their hosts ever written. It is an "insider" view of Vegas that is both fascinating and revealing: a high octane blast of Superhost Steve Cyr and his multi-million dollar casino "whales" (high limit players) that will keep you turning pages faster than a blackjack pro can deal cards. If you want a glimpse of how a top casino host operates, the kinds of comps and treatment afforded high rollers, and the lifestyle and gambling habits of the truly wealthy...this book is for you. It's the next best thing to a seven figure credit line! Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Captivating.......2007-08-31

Whale Hunt In The Desert is first and foremost a great story. Learning how the highest of the high rollers are lured into one casino versus another with outrageous comps, and how much they bet and (usually) lose once they start gambling, is fascinating in its own right. But, more than that, it's the story of the barely moral actions and ploys of top casino host Steve Cyr.

The author is a skilled, insightful storyteller, whose wit and sense of humor come through. A nice change of pace are the occasional, well placed asides on topics such as compulsive gambling and greed.

Though the book is primarily a chronological account, you can flip to virtually any page and start reading and things will make sense. This is a great book to read either cover to cover, or to bring to the pool or on a flight and read a small section at a time.

5 out of 5 stars As close as I'll ever get to being a high-roller.......2006-09-03

Although the last few chapters are clunky, the rest of the book is so good that I really didn't care! What a fabulous glimpse into the good, the bad, and the truly ugly sides of the cream-of-the-crop gamblers and their relationship with the casinos who host them.

I just was fascinated to peek behind the curtain (or in this case, above the ordinary hotel rooms and inside the high-roller gaming areas).

The next time I'm in Vegas, I'll be doing a lot more than looking for a "fun" slot machine or table game to try out ... I"ll be whale watching!

1 out of 5 stars Boreing.......2006-01-23

This is a book about an egotistical, self promoter. If you want to read about how great Cyr believes he is buy this book. You would think this guy was working on the cure for cancer rather than getting people that already want to come to the casino to actually come to the casino.
No new stuff here.

4 out of 5 stars No free comps.......2005-09-22

As a gambler, I learned alot from the book. I never realized my casino host's bonus was tied to our losses. I always thought they were sincere. The book covers most subjects is good detail, however, it seems to loose steam towards the end. It is worth reading, especially if you gamble.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars It's a good book if You know nthing about marketing and management side of gamebusiness.......2006-08-01

I would say that if You are planning to take part in Gamebusiness this is the first book best to read: it gives You the sense of how homplicated on a marketing side, on a game success side business is. I'd say that After Ive read it I got a little bit scared of spending my time in game business. There's also a chapter that is called smt like: Don't try to Compete with half-life 2 - haha that killed me! But I have studied management in UMISt in Manchester and the book lost all my interest after Ive read exactly half of it: All i did then is list the topics and only read what is particularlyt interesting to me. This book is talking broadly and veen though it gives examples of some downs and ups it gives little info on how to solve in particular some of the problems! It just says: do this do this do this but it really does not specify very concrete things like e.g. what step # 1 involves (it would ahve been nice to aleast add tables that include the very specifics of development). e.g. it says step #3 is process (but it does not specify that engine is made here and so on) basically its more managerial and is very low suited book for individuals who wnat to make games in small groups or alone. But for non freelancers it does give good overview of teh business!

5 out of 5 stars Helpful overview of the industry.......2006-05-26

This book was helpful for the development of perfectcompetition.net. It provides a great overview of the industry and some tips and tricks for those new to the industry.

5 out of 5 stars How to Start Your Own Gaming Software Company.......2005-05-31

Note the title carefully, this book is about the Game BUSINESS. It is not a programming manual, it is not on how to design games, it is about the business aspects of the gaming industry. It is written by professionals in that business.

This book is a collection of some twenty-six essays written by professionals in all aspects of the game business. They are broken down into five sections:

The Game Business Then and Now
Publishers and Developers
Startups
Bringing Games to Market
Managing Game Production.

The essays vary in quality and content. Some are much better written than others, some don't seem to have much in either quality or content. All in all, a professional in the gaming industry probably knows all this, but that's not who the book is for. If, on the other hand, you are thinking of starting a gaming software company, there's a lot here.

This is the second edition of the book, updated and expanded.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the startup developer!.......2004-02-21

There is a review already on here claiming that the book is poor because he was an industry veteran and the book didn't teach him anything new. I find that rather like picking up a 2nd grade "learn to read" book and claiming that it is not valuable because you already know how to read. Obviously this book is not targeted to industry veterans.

However, the book IS targeted at people who are new to the game development industry and want to know it works from a business, legal and production standpoint. In that role, it performs admirably. The writers are all established voices in the industry and share their insight well. As the president of a small development studio, I have 7 or 8 little flags poking out of the top of my copy for topics that I want to reread or reference once in a while.

I believe that the book will be of help to anyone thinking of starting a new studio right up through their first year of business. As long as you believe that your time is worth money, the price of this book it is worth spending so as to save yourself the time and headache of trying to figure it out on your own.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2003-11-11

I wouldn't say there are any secrets in this book. I'm an experienced product and marketing manager in the high tech industry. There was some interesting information that pertained to licensing terms and some breakouts of budgets, that was it.

Definitely not worth $32. Maybe half the price.

5 out of 5 stars Great intro to Cryptography.......2007-01-20

This book is a fantastic introduction to the art and science of Cryptography. It shows you in detail various ciphers used throughout history, and how to decipher them. Then it has a problem solving section that starts small and builds until you are trying to solve incredibly complex problems. It truly challenges and expands the mind. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning cryptography.

5 out of 5 stars An interesting look at encryption before the computer.......2004-08-23

This book provides a very fascinating look at substitution and transposition ciphers of the WWII era. It provides detailed instructions on how each cipher is implemented, and provides a chapter on the cryptanalysis of ciphers as well as a chapter of ciphers for the reader to break. A great text for the study of manual cipher systems.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to cryptograhpy.......1999-08-26

This is an excellent beginners' book. It has clear demonstrations of early cryptograhpic methods and how they are solved. Each method is accompanied with a set of problems which are well designed to give beginners some decryption skills.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A must-have book for planning your career.......2006-03-18

An incredibly insightful book that details how to achieve long term career success through an actionable, commonsense plan that will pay dividends immediately. Mr. McGovern is very adept at presenting both the big picture of what it means to have "a career" and then outlining a process for getting there. And doing so in an engaging writing style that makes this great book an easy read.

Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Easy Read, Actionable Advice.......2005-11-17

I found this a very interesting and actionable read. I really liked the concept of a "Career Pyramid" as opposed to the traditional depiction of the "corporate ladder." I thought this was an innovative way to plan your career with the end in mind.

My only complaint is that after reading the book I logged on to Mr. McGovern's new website looking for the Pyramid Builder Tool mentioned in the Author's Note and couldn't find it. I sent an email to the author saying as much and received a reply that the book was orginally not supposed to be printed until January '06 and that the web team hadn't gotten the Tool up yet. Hopefully it will be functioning in the new year as I am anxious to see what it can do.

4 out of 5 stars Bring Your "A" Game: The 10 Career Secrets of a High Achiever.......2005-10-09

Very sound advice and a must read for new college grads entering the work force. Follow these 'secrets' and you will outshine your co-workers who don't pay attention to their careers.

5 out of 5 stars Great read for the young professional.......2005-10-01

This is a great "manual" for the young professional who is looking to advance in their career. The author mixes practical advice with real life anecdotes that keeps you turning the page. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read!.......2005-09-28

Wow! This book kept me turning the pages. Mr. McGovern shares his life experiences with his readers with eloquence and style. It's well organized and yet, easy to read. The book is written from Mr. McGovern's heart as he shares his real life experiences as a career expert. Not just another business book! I'm planning on giving one to each of my friends.

Book Description

For centuries, business, political, and military leaders throughout Asia have had a secret weapon for success -- the philosophies and strategies found in an ancient game called Go.

Now, Troy Anderson, an entrepreneur, knowledge management expert, Fortune 500 management consultant, and one of only five Americans to train at the Japanese Professional Go Academy, brings these philosophies and strategies to the West.

Leaders and intellects such as Mao Tse-tung, Bill Gates, and John Nash (the game was featured in the movie A Beautiful Mind) as well as many CEOs and political leaders throughout Asia are among the 27 million people who have played this simple two-person board game known as the "game of geniuses."

In this unique book, Troy Anderson shares the essential elements of strategy and competition that define the game of Go and shows how these principles can be applied wherever strategy is called for:

Go provides experience and understanding regarding basic strategic problems that no other art, science, or field, other than war, can readily claim. In addition to an enriching account of how the game of Go has influenced Anderson's life, the valuable lessons imparted here add up to a powerful prescription for success -- whether you are seeking professional achievement, better competitive understanding, stronger personal relationships, or simply a more rewarding life.

5 out of 5 stars Provides foundation lessons for both the game & business.......2005-02-05

Far older than chess, the Asian game of Go is played by millions of all ages, all around the world, leading to company tournaments, competition for millions in prize money, and interest: so why should CEOs and non-players care? Because many of the strategies of Go translate well into corporate strategies, creating important parallels between the major rules and mindset of Go and real-life business success. From maximizing limited time and resources to increasing focus and flexibility alike, The Way of Go : 8 Ancient Strategy Secrets for Success in Business and Life provides many important foundation lessons for both the game and business.

5 out of 5 stars Good book!.......2004-08-06

Very good book by Mr. Anderson. I am 6-dan Go player and businessman in Japan. His Go and business are the real thing. But the English is very difficult. I spend days translating with a dictionary. Please make a Japanese version.

What I like best is the story of my business. He never knows my business, but his story captures my business exactly. He is like a ghost visiting. He knows the inside challenge and issue without ever being there. Surprising!

Other review is not true. Mr. Anderson does not say Go comes from Japan. He says it comes from China.

3 out of 5 stars A big Mistake!.......2004-08-03

The author's view is that the game of Go is an ancient Japanese game. But we all know this game came from Ancient China and then Japanese brought into their country. So,the game of Go is an ancient Chinese game, not ancient Japanese one.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond the 'bag of tricks' ..........2004-08-03

As Anderson says in a section of the book called, "So What," the game of Go and the application of the 'way' in business is about seeking and improving more than it's about applying some new set of discoveries or rules to get a certain result.

What I like about this book is that the connections Anderson makes between strategic themes in GO and strategic themes in business are thought provoking - not forumulas for the lastest biz shtick (workshops to follow).

I found the discussion of shifts in strategy at different phases - beginning, middle game and end game - particularly stimulating.

This is a great book to give to a colleague or client to start some converstations worth having.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The book is about teaching and learning........2007-03-20

I was fortunate enough to be of some assistance to Kalinda while she was writing the book. During our discussions it became apparent that she was following a philosophy similar to mine when sharing information with others.
Kalinda believes in "helping people help themselves". Her teaching background makes the content of the book meaningful for the reader. She keeps everything simple and straight-forward. I admit I am not in the real estate investment business but I am a retired educator.
Take advantage of Kalinda's expertise in real estate and her teaching abilities. Like any good how-to book you will benefit from the well-planned material presented with an easy to understand approach.

5 out of 5 stars This investor gives it 5 stars!.......2007-03-01

As someone who has bought and sold over 150 properties in the last 5 years AND someone who has coached and trained over 1200 investors in the last 3 years, I must say this book is the closest thing that I have seen in print that captures the ultimate truths about success in any business. Especially real estate investing. The name of one of our companies is Abundant Homes so Kalinda's use of words really speaks to me. I appreciate her willingness to go against the grain and tackle some sacred cows of our industry. I will recommend this book to all of my students and I will incorporate the principles into our training.

5 out of 5 stars I love it........2007-02-28

I started reading this book last night about 7:30 pm and couldn't put it down until I was finished a few hours later. I started reading it again today to get every insight I can out of it. Kalinda's purpose in the book was to change the reader's awareness about money. She succeeded in changing mine. Now I see money in a completely different way. I now have an understanding about money that I didn't have before. She redefined "financial freedom" from having a certain amount of money to being able to "create money whenever" I want to. Showing how Bankers create money whenever they want to created a useful metaphor for understanding how money is created. She defined the difference between "money" and "currency", thereby making it clear how the amount of money I create is only limited by my imagination. Our reality and results are defined by the beliefs we hold about things; oftentimes, just a change in perspective can make all the difference in the results we produce. Kalinda's book, "No Money Limits" provides a life-changing perspective that can make all the difference between being in the 4% of people that retire in style, or the 96% that retire without.

5 out of 5 stars Enriching........2007-02-17

Kalinda's insightful look into the history of money reveals the secret that every wealthy person knows--that there is plenty of money. The true limits are the limits we put on ourselves. Kalinda graciously shares the secret of making money and reveals that creating wealth isn't about taking from others, but by practicing abundance. Powerful read.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional book for any real estate investor.......2007-02-10

I thought that this book was one of the most practical that I've ever read. It is well written and well thought out. The examples are strong and the information current, usable and when applied profitable.

I've read a lot of real estate books from so called experts that tend to repeat dated information or repackage each other's information and try and pass it off as new. This IS NOT that book. It is well researched, well articulated and immediately useful.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone serious about real estate investment.
