Book Description
Previously available only through free distribution to prisons, this life-changing book is the result of charitable donations from sales of Chicken Soup for the Christian Family Soul and gifts from thousands of individuals. In the spring of 2000, over 100,000 copies of Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul were distributed to prisoners, prison libraries and prison ministries throughout the United States. The hope was that this collection of stories would touch the hearts of prisoners and offer them hope and encouragement, as well as inspire them to transcend the limiting thinking and behaviors of their past. The book was so successful that the co-authors soon found themselves flooded with requests for the book from family members, correctional officers, prison volunteers and others. Because of this huge demand, the decision was made to also release the book to the general public.

Giving Peace to My Loved One.......2007-05-14
This book has really touched my loved one who is incarcerated. He has really enjoyed it and stated that the stories really give the extra step he needs sometimes.
prisoners soul.......2007-01-30
I sent this book to my son who is incarcerated. He has read over half the book so far. He said the book is great. That it really gives him something to think about. He says the book should be manatory reading for everybody who is in a jail. He thinks the officers in charge of the prisoners should read it also, then maybe the harassment would stop.
Another Winner! .......2007-01-09
Great recreational read! I sent it to my husband! I cried through some stories and smiled through others, just as I have with any other Chicken Soup book!
Extremely Pleased and Thankful!.......2005-10-27
I personally did not read this book, however, I sent it to my 27 year old son who at the time was incarcerated as a result of a mix up with stolen identity (his ID having been stolen and used for criminal activities). It was an extremely difficult & spiritually frustrating time for him! This book made a tremendous difference and impact on his decision to rededicate his life to the Lord and allowing Him (Jesus Christ and God our Father) to "help" my son. My son derived much strength from the life stories of others, such as Chuck Colson, as well as all those that contributed their personal stories, in knowing that God is still on the thrown and has not forgotten those in the judicial prision/jail systems and that they are loved as much as those on the outside. My son said I could not have sent him a greater gift at the time. He also has shared it with many of the inmates who were interested in knowing how much the Lord loves them REGARDLESS of their circumstances, what we have done in life, as well as what we have not done in life to please the Lord. It helped many men and I am very grateful for the book and how quickly it was shipped!! That was a very important aspect as well since my son was in such a state of depression and needed some inspiration, hope, guidance and just plain down to earth stories about life in this difficult world. It helped him to keep on keeping on and having faith that God has a purpose for everything. Life catches us by surprise most of the time, however, it never catches the Lord by surprise. My son needed to know that it rains on the just and the unjust in this world, and it shines on the just and the unjust in this world (taken from the Bible). God is no respector of persons and this book clearly reveals that, but, he is a God of LOVE and he loves all his creations, including those that don't necessarily need a "hand out" but a "hand up" which are usually those incarcerated. Not all in the prison system want a get out of jail free. They just want justice done and this book allowed them, through the stories of those individual lives to know there is a "just God" in this world. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to share my opinion/review and I hope it will benefit anyone interested in possibly purchasing this book!
BEST BOOK I EVER READ.......2005-05-25
I FOUND THIS BOOK ON AMAZON AFTER JUST BROWSING AROUND. MY SON IS IN PRISON IN UPSTATE NEW YORK AND I SENT HIM A COPY. HE TOLD ME HE GOT THE BOOK BUT NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ELSE. WELL THE OTHER DAY HE CALLED AND SAID "OH BY THE WAY YOU KNOW THAT BOOK THAT YOU SENT ME A FEW MONTHS AGO CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE PRISONERS SOUL WELL ITS THE BEST BOOK I EVER EVER READ". IT IS SO INSPIRATIONAL AND HE SAID IT HELPS HIM THROUGH SOME DEPRESSING TIMES. HE HAS PASSED IT AROUND HIS PRISION DORM AND EVERY ONE TELLS HIM HOW THEY LOVED THE BOOK. HE EVEN GOT INSPIRED TO WRITE POEMS AND SEND IT IN TO THE AUTHOR WHO TAKES POEMS AND STORIES FROM PRISIONERS AROUND THE COUNTRY. HE AS WELL AS I HAVE READ THE SAME STORIES OVER AND OVER AND NEVER GET TIRED OF READING THEM.

Book Description
For teens who make God an integral part of their lives, teens who are sorting through doubts about whether God really cares about them, and teens who don't know God at all, Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soul may be one of the most influential books they'll ever read. These stories about love, friendship, forgiveness, making a difference, courage, dating (and lots more) show how God is at work in teenagers' lives. Teens share stories about how God has given them the courage to cope with the tough stuff, the joy to live a fulfilling life, the strength to persevere when they feel alone, and the love and confidence they need to feel good about themselves. This very special volume will also help them to use other teens' experiences to build a stronger relationship with God. For teens tempted to use drugs, alcohol or other substances, Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soul can be a lifeline to God. They will know that God cares what they think when it feels as if no one else does, and that He loves them no matter what.

Chicken Soup For the Teen Age Soul.......2007-01-20
I bought it for our Granddaughter's 13th Birthday.
Grandpa was so intrigued with it I had to pry it from him to wrap it!
Inspiring and helpful for teens to grandparents!
Great with Devotions.......2006-08-17
I read a story a night from this book after we read devotions at the dinner table. We all love the stories. Some of the stories our sad and make you think. Some are funny like the Lesson in Lavendar story which is one of our favorites on Compassion and Forgiveness. This story just happened to fit right with our Devotion readings from Sticky Situations 2 another great book. The book is geared for teens but we all can relate to the stories and enjoy them.
Chicken Soup!.......2006-05-21
I absolutely love all chicken soup books and this one was equally amazing. I thought that Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soup was very well written. The stories were very realistic and I think that anyone could relate to them. It covered everyday issues like school, family, friends, and just faith in general. In short this book is very heartwarming and can be read by most everyone.
"Chicken Soup" Books Make Great Gifts.......2006-02-24
I have to start by saying that I love the "Chicken Soup" books.
There are soooo many out there for so many different types of people. I bought this book as a gift for a family member. I couldn't help but read some of the stories before wrapping it. I may not be a teenager anymore, but reading the stories helped me remember to when I was. I think this book is not only great for teenagers, but perhaps the parents of teenagers as well.
Another great helping of Chicken Soup.......2006-01-30
I have yet to read a bad Chicken Soup book, and this one is no exception. The nice mix of stories make for an entertaining and interesting read, and there are life lessons to be gained from reading every single story.
This book is not just for teens. Anyone who loves Chicken Soup type stories will enjoy this book. It tugs at the heart strings and is a book you'll want to re-read again and again.
Book Description
This new Chicken Soup book offers a heartwarming and uplifting collection of stories that celebrate the lifelong bond of sisterhood. Whether they share this special connection with someone through genetics or the heart, only a sister can understand the complex, deep and dynamic relationship they share with loved ones as they journey together through the stages of life. For younger sisters who look up to an older one, older siblings who tolerate a younger sister tagging along, or the brother who knows full well that girls can wrestle as well as any boy can, this book celebrates the sisters in our lives. It conveys how sisters influence us during life's most defining moments: helping us face the schoolyard bully; providing wise counsel during our first crush and subsequent comfort after the breakup; and refusing to reveal intimate secrets to parents or friends. With real-life stories from celebrities and everyday sisters-next-door, chapters include: On Love, Insights and Lessons, Sibling Rivalry, Overcoming Obstacles, The Bond Between Sisters, Sisters by Heart, On Family (Brothers, Too!), and Special Memories and Traditions. While they may not live under the same roof, act in the same manner or even get along without an occasional spat, nothing creates a more special and lasting bond than sisterhood. Now there's a book to celebrate that bond.

Sisters Chicken Soup.......2007-01-10
I bought the book for my 3 sisters and me. I gave them to my sisters for Christmas and asked them to let me know when they read certain stories that reminded them of things they remember. I haven't heard from them yet, but I know I will, as all 4 of us are close at heart though miles apart. They all agreed it was a perfect gift.
Sister to Sister.......2006-11-17
I bought this book with the intention of giving it to my sister when I asked her to be my maid of honor at my wedding. I had forgotten that I already bought this book for her (I kept this copy for me). I marked a touching story in the book having to do with a wedding. She didn't get the meaning behind it, but it made her cry anyways and the best part is that she said yes!
chicken soup for sisters.......2006-03-05
I was bawling by the third story in the first chapter! This book is a real tear jerker.
Another great chicken soup book in the series.
A must to share between sisters and friends. There is a chapter dedicated to brothers as well. I would have to say this is probably the best chicken soup book i have read by far!!!
The Chicken Soup that "Touched Me"........2003-11-04
This book really touched me. It taught me to love my sisters whenever they are mean or do bad things. One of these stories was the most awesome story ever! I said that this one girl's sister had cancer and lost all of her hair. When she went to visit her sister she had a hat on that said "having a bad hair day," but when she took the hat off she was bald, she shaved all of the hair on her head off so her sister woulnd't feel bad about having no hair. That was the story that touched me the most.
Excellent Read.......2003-04-14
My First Chicken Soup book that I have read, and this was simply excellent. I laughed, cried, and it brought back all my childhood memories.

Customer Reviews:
A great "feel good" type book.......2007-04-09
This was a great chicken soup book. I liked how almost all the stories were uplifting, not depressing. There were so many wonderful stories that I couldn't even pick my favorite. It almost seemed like each story I was reading was the best! There's only one story I couldn't even talk about without crying, the one about the two little kids buying the gold slippers for their mom. This book makes you think about what it means to be a Christian, and how we should live our lives. I'm going to read Chicken Soup for the Christian Souls 2 next. I didn't get my fill yet of these amazing stories. If this book sounds like it's something you might enjoy, then trust me, you'll just love it!
Terrific and enjoyable reading.......2007-01-21
Another Chicken Soup favorite of mine. A wonderful collection of stories.
Heartwarming.......2006-11-30
This book is smack full of heartwarming, true Christian stories. These stories make you feel good inside. This is a perfect book to read when you are snowed in, or before you go to bed each night, or anytime!
For Anyone Who Feels Alone on a Holiday........2005-11-08
As with the other varied topics in this series, there are short stories of faith, hardships, and mainly (in this volume) overcoming obstatcles in one's life. This being a gift, I tried to find something in it to resemble my own experiences. "Now This Is Music!" spoke to me because I was in a girls' glee club choir in high school, and our teacher has sung with a famous choir in his other life, and demanded perfection. Since I was the only one who could not read music (though I was the only one also to be on local radio and television talent shows as a solo performer), he placed me in between the sopranos and altos -- often reminded me that I was "following" a fraction too slow. This young female choir director pushed her singers to the limit with a difficult piece in a competition in Orange County, California (that's where the talent is!) and they came through for her, receiving a superior rating. Soon after that success, she had an unexplained accident which broke her neck and changed her life forever. She had the faith to carry on with the music in another direction.
Another was "Our Mysterious Passenger," about someone who 'traveled the dark jouney' with a pilot and his wife to get back from Mexico for an important meeting. They placed their trust in him and his story was worth the doubt and worry on the wife's part. Their landing was 'out-of-this-world' but necessary to understand that they had done a favor for a special person who had fulfilled his promise to repay a primitive clinic where he'd been taken after a tragic accident ten years earlier.
The most thought-provoking was at the end of the book written by Tom Veres, a photographer who documented the work of rescuing thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Gestapo during WWII at the risk to his own life. Two of his photos from the basis of the 1997 U. S. Stamp honoring Raoul Wallenberg, one of the Swedes who carried out the difficult rescue.
There were two Thanksgiving stories and several about Christmas, but instead of being uplifting, I found them depressing. I hate holidays anyway, as I am usually alone and lonely on those days when the public transit isn't working. The "Chicken Soup" series has been in production about ten years or more with each volume designated for specific groups, like grandparents, teenage, college, sisters, dogs, pet lovers, golden years, body and soul, and cartoons for teachers.
Jack Canfield has written THE SUCCESS PRINCIPLES, THE ALADDIN FACTOR, and SELF-ESTEEM and is a motivational speaker at conferences and conventions. He has a good back up staff at the Canfield Group which selects the 101 stories for each volume; that makes over 2020 stories to be published so far. Most are not by professional writers; some are heart-breaking as was the one about the wedding dress.
A great spirit..........2004-01-08
Most of the series of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' has the kind of warm and fuzzy story that many find endearing and sweet. They are not 'deep' most of the time, but do point to things beyond themselves; for my own use, I often find sermon illustrations and stories within the pages of volumes of Chicken Soup -- as chaplain at a retirement centre, many of the stories help people to recall happier times, and help them deal with their present situation.
This particular volume involves stories with specifically Christian themes. The broad topics of the Christian life - love, giving (generosity), family and parenting, faith and hope, overcoming obstacles, death and dying - all these are addressed here, the contributing authors making explicitly Christian connections in their narratives. Much in the manner that Readers Digest accepts unsolicited stories from amateur authors, so does the Chicken Soup series. Often the most meaningful stories are those that happen to people who are not professional writers. However, there are 'names' among the contributors to this volume;
Each of this stories can easily be read in a short time. This makes it a good source for 'falling-asleep reading', for use in public speaking and preaching opportunites, for shared reading-aloud times, and for simple enjoyment and entertainment. Many of the stories here are ones that stay with you; these are stories I use again and again in my chaplaincy, and they are always appreciated.
The editors of the primary series 'Chicken Soup' are Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen; for purposes of this volume, they are joined by Patty Aubrey and Nancy Mitchell, who also helped with the 'Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul' volume.
Book Description
Like the original Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul, this second volume celebrates wholesome, traditional values and principles. Themes of forgiveness, faith, hope, charity and love will lift readers' spirits and warm their hearts. The stories in this collection will deepen readers' faith and expand their awareness of how to practice Christian values in their daily lives--at home, at work and in the community. This book will remind readers of the miracles they can discover when they welcome Christ into their everyday lives. Powerful stories will deepen readers' compassion for others, inspire them to greater acts of charity, lead them to forgive others and themselves, encourage them to stand up for what they believe in, and, most of all, remind them that they are never alone or without hope--no matter how challenging and painful their circumstances may seem.

Excellent.......2007-05-13
Have you ever found a BAD chicken soup book???? I think not and this fits right into that catagory
Uplifting Stories for an Uplifting Book.......2005-08-13
"Chicken Soup for the Christian Family Soul" is a touching book that made me remember and realize all the miracles God can perform and has done. While I was reading, I was in awe. Each story made me smile, and thank God for what he has done for these people. Letting them know in a way that makes it special to all the writers' of all the stories. It was very inspiring to read about real people who have experienced sadness, trials, and obstacles in their lives but still they kept their faith and got their own life miracle. I had several favorite stories but this is my favorite:
"A Miracle of Mermaids". Rhonda Gill's Husband, Ken had died nine months ago. Her 4 year old daughter, Desiree, was heartbroken over it. Desiree was a daddy's girl; she did everything with her father. Rhonda had moved in with her mother after Ken's death. On November 8, 1993, what would have been her dad's 29th birthday, Desiree asked her mom how she could send her daddy a card. Her Grandmother recommended buying a balloon, and tying the card to it. Desiree picked out a Little Mermaid Birthday balloon, and they tied the card, and a note to it, and let it go. Desiree insisted on the thought that her daddy was going to write back to her.
Wade MacKinnon, who lived in the rural area of Mermaid, Prince Edward Island, Canada, decided to go to Mermaid Lake. At the lake, he saw something floating around, behind the bushes. He picked it up and brought it home. It was a balloon with Mermaids on it. He opened the letter written in a little baggy. They read about Desiree's daddy, and what they did. To their astonishment, the balloon had traveled, from Oak, California to Canada in four days, nearly 5,000 Kilometers. The balloon had also landed in Mermaid Lake. Donna, Wade's wife, decided to write back to Desiree. She wrote a nice letter to her, and then bought a copy of the book Little Mermaid, and sent Desiree the package. The package was received by Desiree's Grandma, on January 19, since the MacKinnon family waited till after Christmas to send the package. Desiree, was ecstatic, to know that her Daddy wrote back. She did understand though, that it wasn't her daddy, that it was a family who had found the balloon and who decided to do a good thing.
Years later, Desiree will always call them when she needs to talk to her Daddy.
I loved this story, and the whole book, filled with stories just like it. If you enjoy inspirational stories, 'Chicken Soup for the Christain Family Soul" is a must-read for your list.
Another "keeper" added to my collection..........2005-05-05
After reading almost every edition of the Chicken Soup series of books during the past 10 years, this one being my latest read, I wanted to comment on how wonderful and inspiring the collection of stories and books have been to me.
Chicken soup: the simple, all-natural, inexpensive, easy-to-digest, comfort food, ingested for physical ailments. The title of this series of books promises the same, for the soul/spirit of the reader. And it delivers. Sometimes I feel it contains much more than mere chicken soup, but an arsenal of potent antibotics.
Divided and organized into categories or chapters, each book has stories each person can relate to, written about real people who have overcome obstacles, inspired, learned, thus encouraging the reader to do the same.
With a steady bombardment of negative news, I feel the Chicken Soup series of books creates a much-needed balance of hope to the sometimes-ignored, silent spirit that dwells within us.
If you have not already discovered this series, do yourself a favor and find a book within your interest range or start from the beginning with the first book. These books also make a terrific gift for a friend.
I love this book!.......2000-09-18
This is such a great book-i would reccomend it to anyone! It is uplifting and after reading it you'll want to read it over and over again!
Feel Good.......2000-07-18
This book is a definite "feel good" book that I have passed along. It's a book made of love. Many stories helped me to remind me of the power of Christ.

Another Chicken Soup favorite.......2007-01-21
Purchase shortly after my divorce. Comforting and a reminder that you are not the only one with problems. Another favorite Chicken Soup book.
What a Wonderful Book!.......2003-06-24
This is a wonderful book. Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down. I love a format of vignettes (short essays or stories). If you aren't a Christian, you may think these stories are too churchy or just can't be real. But if you ARE a Christian, you know exactly how the power of God carries us through everyday life. The theme of this book touches the soul of Christian women. Stories are either told by a woman of faith, or are about a woman of faith. Both men and women share real incidences from their life, covering nearly every scenario imaginable. The horrible: death, cancer, physical disfigurements, abuse, divorce. And the glorious: miraculous healings, new love, the wonder of children, God's protective hand. Though quite varied in content, each story testifies to God's grace, strength, and abundant love. The Chicken Soup people have outdone themselves with this uplifting collection to warm and heal the soul of the Christian woman. Blessings to them. And blessings to you from the MenopauseLady. Donna Rogers, author The Menopause Survival Guide.
appualing.......2002-12-26
Many of the stories in this book are distasteful. I would not recomend this book to anyone.
Another fantastic addition to the Chicken Soup Series.......2002-12-09
We are blessed to have yet another collection of amazing stories to read and to share. Also of note is the tone of the book which is gentle and lovingly points the reader to draw their own conclusions - there is absolutely no offensive preachyness here! I would highly recommend this as a great gift or to read yourself! Thanks again to the Chicken Soup Team - you have done it again!
comforting, like a soft blanket.......2002-10-24
This book offers a bond with the women who wrote it and Christian women all over the world. The stories offer hope, encouragement and a whole range of other emotions that strengthen that bond. And most importantly, it reminds us that we are loved by God and he is there for us always. What a terrific gift from one woman to another!

A beachcomber saw a man walking along the shore, throwing back starfish that had washed up. "There are thousands of starfish on the sand," the beachcomber told him. "You can't possibly make a difference." The man picked up a starfish and threw it out to sea. "Made a difference to that one!" he said. How do you make a difference? To whom does it matter?

Good tool for therapy.......2007-06-08
I am planning on using these cards in therapy to pose existential questions. They can be used to build a relationship between therapist and client at the beginning stages of therapy. They are also of good use with teenagers (or anyone) who may have an "attitude" about therapy.

Too good to describe.......1999-12-02
I have read several of the Chicken Soup books and love them all. A five star rating is not high enough, it should be ten! I recommend all of the ones that I've read to all of my friends and even give out the Chicken Soup Calendars as gifts. I want them to experience the feelings that I have when I read the books. (My favorite story is the one about adoption when a child says that an adopted child is one that grows in her mommy's heart instead of her belly.)
This book, like the first three has moved me........1998-06-18
I had read all three of the Chicken Soup books until 5 days ago when I recieved book 4 for my 11th birthday. There was one story that I read that made me realize what beautiful really is. That story was called "Beautiful on the Inside". It was about a little girl who when told she was beautiful, replied boredly, "Yes, I know!". Then her mother explained to her how to be beautiful on the inside. Then two years after, the child's friend's mother had died and they went to visit her grave. The little girl showed great care and love and sorrow to her friend. Then, after the child's friend left, she asked her mother,"Mommy, was I beautiful on the inside?"

Danny is given the opportunity to make a choice-and to discover a brand new part of himself. Feeling the natural stirrings of love and generosity in his heart, Danny makes the critical decision that turns a fun night out with Dad into the best night out ever.

Chicken Soup for Little Souls.......2005-11-04
Although I am a bit over the age this book was directed at, I still find this book really great. The illustrations are simply beautiful, and the story is simple but powerful.
It's about a boy who goes to his annual trip to the circus with his Dad. He meets a new friend who has never gone to the circus before. When his friend meets a problem, the boy has to help him out.
It's really an example of what we all should be like.
One of our favorite books (and we have LOTS).......2001-10-04
I get teary every time I read this with my children. It is a wonderful story and teaches a great lesson in sharing and giving something love so that someone else can experience that joy -- and how wonderful you feel for having given it away.
A very nice story about sharing.......2000-04-28
On his way to the circus, Danny makes a new friend. The meeting leads up to an important decision. This tender story pulled at my heart strings as well. I'm sure it brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it.
Lively illustrations accompany the tender story. Definitely a must for any little boy or girl's bookshelf.
Clear Values for Families of all Faiths.......1998-11-28
This set of books wonderfully illustrates the values of putting others ahead of yourself and the joy that can come from making others happy. The illustrations are engaging to children and the stories hold their attention. I have used these three books with children from three years to twelve years of age in a childcare setting and was very pleased with the way they held the children's attention and at the discussion generated during and after the story.
Presents Animals in an archaic manner........1998-11-26
Although I liked the idea of the child and the father enjoying themselves at the circus, the kind of circus displayed is slowing, thankfully dying out. Using elephants, bears and tigers to entertain humans is becoming less accepted as they are replaced with domestic animals. Presenting to the children in the 90's images of wild animals performing gives this practice a stamp of approval it shouldn't get.I feel the authors and publishers of children's books should be more responsible for the images and ideas they project to children. Putting a light-hearted spin on what is basically the imprisonment and forced performance of wild animals is wrong. If they were to research it a bit, they would find the elephants are shackled 22 out of 24 hours a day, let off their chains only for the daily performance and many end up going insane from their lack of freedom. The dancing bears were taught this un-natural act in cruel ways, especially if they are from Russia and were tortured with yanks on a nose ring until bullied into these jigs for profit. Tigers are simply whipped, poked, shocked and caged.A modern type of circus would be a more aware and humane choice to present, like the troop from France that uses mostly people for the acts, like contortionists, jugglers, clowns with the occasional poodle who jumps hurtles. The same basic story could have been told and the same opportunities would exist for colourful illustrations, without continuing to validate the idea of using wild animals for our means to our children.
