so you have motherpeace and daughters of the moon for the ladies, I guess that this deck is sort of done for the gentlemen who drum in circles in the woods under the moon. the deck is very white and very male. there are pictures of people of other cultures, but they are there to be exotic and "other." the female energey here isn't a quiet, inner energy but rather one that exists to support the male.
many sacred sculptures and artworks from other cultures are incorporated into some of the cards, but in a way that doesn't seem to reveal a lot of knowledge about the artwork included. why a god of industry on a card traditionally about inner nurturing? I do not get the feeling that the levels of meaning here are as deep as those in say, crowley's thoth tarot, which I love love love. and yes, as someone else stated, the images here do feel dated. I just wish that they felt deeeeeper! (crystals and flowers chosen for the swords and cups don't seem to have any reason for being there other than that they are crystals and flowers...why not blooms of mourning for a card on letting go, or perenials for cards about resiliance, for example.) this deck left me wanting more for the people who made it.
one thing they did give was a very heavy new-age push to sign up for their card course and to send more money and blah blah blah.
the deck I got also had many of the cards stuck together because of the coating. I had to peel each one apart and they don't shuffle so well.
fun to look at, but I don't use it as much as thoth, enchanted or sacred rose.

I call myself a visionary because of this deck.
Never have I come across something that encompasses such a montage of images that peak out at all the appropriate times.
On a side note, I personally do not believe in "reading the book" or "reading the tarot formations"neither the inserts included.
I feel the card is allowing me to part the bushes and peer into whatever soul I am working with at the time.
They strike me as a form of 52 pickup with all the images hanging in the air.
My job is to pick each image one by one and unite them into an appropriate overview for the client.
This deck has changed me , altered my views of beauty and life as we know it.
It challenges the limitations of the 4 sides to a card and whisper their version of maddness into my awaiting ears and eyes.
I have had a blast with these cards, something I view as a special companion , my sidekick.
When you use them do not get overwhelmed by their size and contents, allow yourself a minute to adjust to the images that jump forward and weave a tale for you.
My only other piece of advise to a newbee, dont study the images , don't stare at the cards endlessly,,,,each read is a moment , allow them to dictate to you what song will be sung.
Ill say it again, these cards have been such a link to the beyond for me.
I am grateful we have found each other.

This a great tool for self reflection. The cards are beautiful and deeply thought out, combining imagery from many spiritual paths in a synthesis that feels natural and epansive. I've had a deck for more than ten years and it continues to surprise and inspire me. I highly recommend this deck and the guide that it comes with.

This was one of the first Tarot decks I purchased in 1987. At the time it was cutting edge with my taste. Very contempory in its presentation. I was simultaneously studying the Crowley-Thoth deck that Mr. Wanless wrote a great workbook for. His Voyager Tarot brought the Tarot into the modern age for myself and many others. This was the deck I began using to read for others.
The card were large and beautifully constructed of universal photography that seemed so profound then. This was just as the digital age was being born. There were no fancy programs to work with. It was truely a major feat at the time. Compliments were given to the cards alone, not my skills reading them! Alas, this was my college years. I was an art student. I had very little money and took them to a party. They were stolen in 1989!
For myself,I Hermetically sealed the deck as well as my current study of the Tarot. I kept reading with the Thoth Deck. After college, many years later I purchased another Photo-montage deck-The Cosmic Tribe Tarot. It was superior indeed! I decided to purchase another copy of the Voyager in 1999.
Time can date our perception of what we consider beautiful or meaningful. That was the case with this particular Tarot. It had lost much of the mystical charm of just 10 years ago. The images are somewhat nostalgic and I do not use it for any professional work. Mr Wanless should try another deck with modern technology being what it is. There are many great photo decks out there. I feel this one is just a little dated in its style.

Beautiful, modern, artistic, creative interpretation of the tarot. The artwork is bright, vivid and magnificent. lots of symbolism incorporated into each card. I love the cultural diveristy reflected in these cards. The Family cards, with realistic representations of the Court Cards (ex. man or woman instead of king and queen) is such a wonderful idea. I really connect to these cards. Very highly recommend for anyone interested in Tarot from beginner to professional reader.

This deck corresponds to the books of the same name. They are very helpful and useful in every day guidance. If anything it is great to have them when you need assurance that you are picking up something accurate. The illustration is not as pretty as Choquette's other two decks but the cards are very valuable.
A note about Sonia: She does intensive training with these three decks at a spa in Illinois for $4000 for a weekend. So if you have all three and want further study it will cost you. And psychic training with Sonia is at $3200 plus travel and lodging so be warned ... this is one very expensive soul teacher. If you do get a personal consultation with her, and you hear you are psychic, to do The Hoffman Process, Artist's Way, Mindful Loving, and that you are a sensitive psychic in need of training, should be doing readings for people, need to excercise to align your body with your higher intentions, shouldn't look for a knight on a white horse in love, how your last relationship was karmic past life, don't worry ... she tells everyone that.

I received these cards in the mail yesterday; they are lovely cards to not only look at but work with. Usually I might have to shuffle the cards for a day or two in order to work my energy into them but my connection to these cards was immediate. After about 15 mins of shuffeling cards fell out of the deck as is customary for me when I work with any deck of cards. The cards were consistant as in the same 2 or 3 cards fell out the couple of times I worked with the deck last night. I would say that the messages were accurate to my abilities and what I need to focus on. My thought on these cards is that this deck would make an easy connection with anyone intending to use them. They may very well become one of your favorite decks to work with.

This is a super starter's kit for angel reading. You get the Archangel Deck and guidebook. You also get a DVD (about an hour of viewing time broken into short convenient segments). It all comes in a box with felt tray. The DVD has some great lessons from Doreen and you get to see quite a few sample readings performed by her on real people. Even if you are not a beginner, you might still enjoy the personal mini workshop with Doreen herself on the DVD.

if you love oracle cards. i use these cards for angelic guidance and find them amazingly accurate. when i seek guidance on an issue, the same cards turn up in daily readings for about 2 or 3 days in a row. they are truly magical and the deck is quite beautiful. these are my favorite cards and the messages are not only comforting, but provide confirmation of what i know to be true. the dvd provided with the kit is wonderful.

These are the first set of oracle cards I have used. The kit is wonderful, and the DVD that comes with it is very helpful for a first time oracle card uses like my self! I suggest all first time uses use this kit because it helps you see how to use these cards. But if you don't want to that is ok because you angels will guide you in usuing the cards. I've been for long a tarot lover. I've been for long interested in humankind mysteries psychologically and emotionally speaking. When I saw this deck I immediately understood and felt that this was my dream. To translate all these beautiful stories into Portuguese and tell them as I could to all children and adults I know. All of them are miracles of knowledge and life. In my opinion there isn't, until now, no better way to understand and teach the meanings of all the Arcana. (So subtile and gentle but also so real and true. There is only one "if": The quality of the paper. But this isn't really very important...

I think, overall the colors and the art could have been a little more consistant. Because I bought the deck primarily because I liked the way it looked (the cards shown online, that is) and my lack of serious Tarot use, I won't comment on how the illustrations coincide with the meanings of the cards.

This is a wonderful deck. The delightful illustrations are very colorful and the book which accompanies the deck is descriptive, full of animal childhood stories and imagination. The deck uses fairy tale images of animals which are evocative symbols. As with many current tarot decks, this deck gives it's own twist on the major and minor arcana tarot card meanings, which is illuminated through the symbols from fairy tales.
This particular deck is full of childhood imagination evoked by fairy tale stories. I love to play around with the tarot and this deck stimulated my own creativity and further understanding of the tarot.

[Okay, so I don't know french] I DO know that this deck is appropriately named. I LOVE this deck! When I first got it I couldn't stop looking at it. It sticks to traditional Tarot imagery, but in a funny, sometimes slightly twisted way. The artwork is truly Victorian in feel and the cream color of the borders of the cards give them that old parchment feel. The "animal people" depicted are truly unique and each one is given such character. The creators did such a great job of capturing artist Grandville's unusual style. My only criticism--and it is a small one--is that the cards are thinner than most decks which can make it a tad more challenging to riffle. But I am NOT about to remove a star for a little riffle trifle. In fact, if I could ADD a star, I would.
Bottom line--if you love Tarot, Grandville, Victorian art, and/or humor, BUY THIS DECK. In my opinion it's a "must-have" addition to any collection.

The Necronomicon Tarot by Donald Tyson, illustrated by Anne Stokes, is a brilliant adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's work to the Tarot format. For those not familiar with HPL, he was an early 20th century pulp fiction writer whose work focused on the other-worldly horrors of ancient magic and forgotten civilizations. He created the Necronomicon as a literary device, an imaginary tome of ancient magic upon which much of his hideous mythology was based. Tyson himself has continued that lineage with two novels and this Tarot, the third in his trilogy. The Tarot comes in a boxed book and deck set, together with a mosquito-net style bag. Given the subject matter, I was a little disappointed that it did not include a shrunken head, or at the very least some dusty old bones, but I suppose there are postal regulations to contend with.
The deck itself is of standard size, and the usual Tarot format of 22 Major Arcana cards, and a Minor Arcana in four suits of 10 plus four court cards. The art work is vivid and brightly colored, set against a black background that makes the cards almost glow. The design of the Major Arcana itself is roughly traditional (whatever that really means), with the substitutions one would expect for the theme. Most of them will be immediately recognized by students of the genre: Nyarlathotep is the Magician, Dagon is the Hierophant, the Hounds of Leng haunt the Moon, and of course Great Cthulhu himself appears as the Devil. Each suit of the Minor Arcana is based on a particular theme, and for the most part, the cards are descriptively illustrated, and follow the Golden Dawn pattern. The Wands, which we are told represent Fire, somewhat surprisingly concern themselves with Atlantis, and Deep Ones make frequent appearances. The Cups reflect an Egyptian theme, tracing the progress of an acolyte of Bast. The Swords concern themselves with betrayal, distrust and death, while the Disks chronicle the adventures, and eventual success, of a necromancer.
The theme immediately invites a comparison with the H. P. Lovecraft Tarot, by Friedman and Hutchinson, published by Mythos Books, and now sadly out of print. Its first edition was cast in bluish-green tones, and its second edition appeared in sepia, while the Necronomicon Tarot is in full, bright colors. The HPL Tarot provides a more thorough illustration of Lovecraft's works -- it is very much a Necronomicon in itself, which might, to those not familiar with Lovecraft's work, make it a little difficult to use as a Tarot. The Necronomicon Tarot, on the other hand, is immediately recognizable as a Tarot deck. While a familiarity with Lovecraft's work would certainly add to one's appreciation of the deck, it should be easy to use by those familiar with the Tarot in general, and, thanks to the detailed book that accompanies it, by those with an interest in the theme who are just beginning their study of the Tarot.
The book, "Secrets of the Necronomicon," is very well written, and would be very helpful to those not familiar with the work of Lovecraft, or with the Tarot itself. It includes chapters on the Necronomicon and its history, the Cthulhu Mythos, and Correspondences, which discusses the Tarot, and specifically its relationship to the Golden Dawn. There are detailed black-and-white illustrations, descriptions, and suggested divinatory meanings for each card, and finally a suggested layout for reading. The divinatory meanings roughly follow the GD standard, though there are occasional differences. If you don't happen to like the GD interpretations, you can focus more on using the card's description as a starting point for your own imagination and understanding of the card.
And there is a lot to imagine here. As Tyson points out, the Necronomicon itself is made out of the stuff of dreams, not out of wood pulp and glue. Its roots are deep within the unconscious, and its "reality" is in its ability to bring forth things that are hidden to ordinary waking consciousness. As such, it is a theme well suited to the Tarot, which is itself a product of the collective unconscious.
But what is this all about? Why all the excitement over a book that does not exist, over monsters that were invented by a pulp writer in the early 20th century? No one could take all this stuff seriously! After all, no one believes in metaphysical Evil anymore; it's evil with a small "e." Human frailty and corruption, not monsters and devils. Right? Maybe. But, methinks, thou whistleth a bit too loudly in the graveyard...
Nietzsche used the word "blinken" to describe a kind of narrow-sighted, closed-mindedness that refuses to recognize anything other than what makes your own world comfortable for you. It's easy to say there is no "Evil," if you have never faced it. It's easy to say Tarot cards are rubbish, if you have no talent for reading them. It's easy to walk through the graveyard at night, if you don't look behind yourself. And it's easy to ridicule what others believe, until your own little world falls apart.
Then, like Pandora's box, the collective unconscious opens wide, and every horror that has stalked the human race since before recorded history lunges forth with vengeance. The stars are right, and that which became Tiamat to the ancients, and Cthulhu in the mind of Lovecraft, rises from the sea to shred what remains of your "reality." Madness, yes, but "reality" too. More drugs? Drugs can alter your brain so you don't see what is socially unacceptable, but they do not change the "reality" of what lies beyond the blinken.
Therein lies the fascination of the Necronomicon. Sure, it's a myth, but that is what a myth is -- a map of the world that lies beyond immediate experience, a signpost in the twilight zone that lies beyond the blinken. Someone else's experience of a world as yet unknown; and whether imaginary or historical, it is just as valid. And this is the value of the Necronomicon Tarot, along with other "dark" tarots, like the Bosch and the Gothic -- they are images of what lies in the collective unconscious, imaginary and at the same time very real. They speak to, and listen to, a part of the mind connected with the primal origins of humanity, and perhaps with the forces out of which humanity arose. They are gateways to a "reality" that we don't ordinarily see -- the stuff of which dreams and visions are made -- and they are ways of getting beyond the intellectual, moral, and spiritual "blinken" of modern culture.

The local Bookstore by me just reformatted there whole metaphysical/divination section and made a total mess of it. As luck would have it, in their disaster I found a new deck set. I just can't help myself I guess. The thing that caught my eye was the vivid colors of the deck. The set's box doesn't show but a few cards and has a very simple description, but I was curious. The price was right ($13.00 for the set) so I just had to pick it up.
The book is a small hardbound book, 4 X 5 inches and 64 pages long. I like its simplicity. There is a short section on the origins of the Tarot and a brief introduction on how to use the tarot. The Major Arcana is introduced and each card looked in detail. The book is in full color so that is rather nice too. The Minor Arcana is also looked at card by card followed by a section on numerology, 4 different spreads and an example reading. All and all the book is a good starter book. It's brief, to the point, although isn't not very in depth, it's enough to get you going without being overwhelming for the new Tarot reader.
The deck measures 2" x 4", which is a bit smaller than normal, but is very comfortable. The cards themselves are of a slightly softer card stock, which makes them easier to shuffle from the start, yet I'd be afraid they wouldn't last as long as most decks (I use my decks a lot.)
The cards themselves are very brightly colored which I find very pleasing. The characters of the Major Arcana and the Court Cards have a bit of a cartoon look, but it suites the deck well. There is a warmth and depth from the combination of the colors and artwork.
The Minor Arcana cards have the appropriate elements represented in the background which connects nicely with the images of each card. The Pips have no characters but through the imagery I still am very comfortable with them and find them easy to read.
All and all I like this simple deck set and feel it is an excellent tool for someone unsure if they are ready to embark on the Journey of the Tarot and great for the experienced tarot reader as well.

I bought this for a gift and it was a huge hit! The cards are really beautifully illustrated and the meditation CD is very very relaxing. The oils smelled very nice and all for the price of the CD. I thought it was a lovely gift and the reciver raved about it! For $17.00 you can't go wrong, worst case, you might just get a good night sleep.

This is the 2nd "kit" I've purchased whereby everything but the book and CD are superflous. The information placed on the flash cards could've been included in the book. I'm assuming this is a maketing trick to lower cognitive dissonance when purchasing shlock like this. The oil...no where does the kit tell you what's in the bottle. And forget about the "dream diary"...wasted pages with not enough room for notes, and the same "inspirations" on every page of the journal.
It is insulting to produce material that is clearly...CLEARLY...designed to create barriers for consumers to return goods. You see, once you remove the packaging...there's an open CD...oil...you're stuck with the kit regardless of the contents. You've been warned.

Insightful and entertaining........1998-09-16
This book was delightful and insightful to the extent it addressed some personal issues I had been dealing with. It validated some feelings I had been having about myself, other people and certain situations, and some 'inner' knowings that I had had doubts about for some time but a small part of me really believed. It really helped me to recognize my intuitive self.
The cards are colorful and the meanings are easy to remember. The interpretations of the card spreads could have been enhanced if the the author had provided a couple of sample readings for each spread in order to synthesize the information gleaned.
The author should have offered more specific information or detail in the followng areas: if cutting the cards was necessary, exactly 'what' to wrap the cards in and how to store them; it was not clear if you dealt the 'spread' cards off the top of the deck, or if you lay out all 48 cards face down and then 'pick' the designated number of cards for the spread of interest. The author mentioned 'smudging' the cards with incense. Did she mean card by card (one by one) or passing incense around the entire deck or passing the deck through a cloud of smoke from the incense?
Despite the unclear instruction on setting up the cards for use, I did what I 'felt' was right and was amazed at how on-target the cards were.
Each card had an active/passive element associated with it. Again, clarity on these aspects and how they affect interpretation would have been helpful.
A better defined table of the cards in elements and signs and keywords would have been nice. At times, I found I I had to simultaneously supplement the reading of the book with another text on astrological signs.
I liked the compact size of the book - it could easily fit into my purse.
Hopefully there'll be a subsequent, expanded edition that will address these concerns. This is a very worthwhile volume.
