Better off trying to pass an uninflated 260q off as a worm........2006-08-15
The only reason this book doesn't get a ZERO is that you have to give at least 1 star. Aaron's first book (Balloon Animals) was worth picking up but this one is a total disappointment. (Even at $2.00) Almost all of the figures in this book would not even be recognizable without the animal's name as the title of the section you are reading. Please PLEASE don't waste your time. Go to the Qualatex website and get "260Q Figures", and "Advanced 260Q figures". Just look under the "Balloon Magic" section. If you are a beginner, or thinking about just getting started, I would suggest getting the "Balloon Fun" creative activity book. ISBN 0-7853-1140-8. This will give you a VERY good foundation for doing twisting. Very nice animals, a nice flower, a couple of hats, and a couple of other very nice items.
A great beginner's book.......2002-01-22
This was the first book I read about Balloon Animals, and it got me off to a great start. The patterns are introduced in order of difficulty, and the author provides a nice foundation to build on. The first instructions are extremely detailed, to get you going without any confusion. My son and I spent an evening making animals from this book, and within a couple of hours we felt like experts.
The balloons are of good quality, although the pocket balloon pump does require some patience.
Not my favorite.......2000-12-01
I had watched a number of balloon sculptors make things for my daughter and I decided to give it a shot. I had bought some balloons and a pump and just messed around until I came up with the basic flower, dog, giraffe and sword. Friends wanted me to make more balloons for their parties, playgroups, etc so I thought it would be nice if I could make a few more shapes the kids would enjoy. I bought this book knowing it came with balloons and another pump, but I figured the pump could be used if I recruit a helper at one of the parties. When it all arrived, I was ready to dive in. The pump is the type, however, that will cause your hand to cramp in short order if you are doing more than a couple of sculptures. In addition, I barely found any sculptures that were useable in the book. Many are the type that you would hand to a kid and they would say "what is this?" There are a couple of useable sculptures in it, but I think I'd have to recommend another book altogether for maximum enjoyment. After all, it isn't much fun to make something that is unrecognizable!
Great way to make $$.......2000-06-09

Fun and Easy.......2005-08-03
This book is a great introduction to the art of making balloon animals. You get enought of a supply to learn several animals within a matter of hours... I'm practicing for my niece's fourth birthday party in a couple of weeks. The true test will be what the kids think! Now that I know the basics, I may be able to come up with a few of my own that are not even in the book!
Excellant Product for Adults and Children.......2005-08-03
This product is excellant and so much fun! The book included is very informative and the directions easy to understand and follow. I highly recommend this for the beginner who needs alittle help in learning the art of making balloon animals. A++
Excellent book!.......2004-01-16
As a new enthusiastic in the field of balloon twisting I can honestly say that it is an excellent book. It is very easy to follow the instructions and the results are very pleasing. After a very short while you remember the instructions and no longer need to book near you. Don't mind the pump and 10 balloons, go and get a better pump for a few dollars and a package of 100 balloons because it is so much fun!
Life of the Party.......2003-03-10
I bought this for my 9 year old son as party favors for his birthday. I had read a review in consumer reports recommending this toy so I bought the kits and made this the theme of the party. The kids were making animals in minutes, we had some adults learn first, and had a blast. There are some very easy animals, like the dog, and very difficult animals, like the Teddy Bear. The Teddy Bear is one of the coolest balloon animals you can make, although very difficult to master. Overall, this a wonderful product and would strongly recommend it.
lots of fun.......2002-04-07
Easy to follow instructions and kids love it. You will soon find yourself buying lots of additional balloons to make more animals.

Book Description
The first "manned" hot-air balloon is about to take off! But what are those noises coming from the basket?
Based on the (POSSIBLY) true report of a day in 1783, this si the story of (PERHAPS) the bravest collection of flyers the world has ever seen, as (SORT OF) told to Marjorie Priceman.
Customer Reviews:
Fun to Read!.......2007-09-04
This book has a great story line with a sense of humor. Young kids love to hear me read it when I visit their classrooms.
I recommend you buy it as one of the books your primary grade kids will fight over.
My son enjoys this.......2007-05-12
This book wasn't what I had imagined it to be. The first several pages contain a lot of words, and the last several pages are just pictures. My 6 year old son really enjoys this book, though, and asks for it at night.
Barnyard Animals Aloft.......2006-01-31
Starting with the historical facts of the first hot-air balloon ride, which took place in Versailles, France in 1783, Priceman lets her imagination - and illustrations - run wild. The first hot-air balloon aviators (i.e., the guinea pigs) were a sheep, a duck and a rooster. After a few introductory pages of text, Priceman depicts the flight with a series of wordless illustrations. The complex pictures lend themselves to careful inspection to catch all the elements of the story. In the end, our barnyard aviators land safely, which I hope this is one of the true facts of this story. 2006 Caldecott Honor Book.
Congratulations on your 2nd Caldecott Award!!!.......2006-01-27
I love this book and my children love it more. The story is hilariously told through the beautiful illustrations. The Caldecott committee made an excellent choice. This book would appeal to children of all ages.
Stratospherically Sublime.......2006-01-27
In Hot Air: The (Mostly) True Story of the First Hot-Air Balloon Ride, author and illustrator Marjorie Priceman shows once again why reviewers have christened her "the master of whimsy." Recounting the Montgolfiers 1783 test run of their balloon and imagining, with postmodern verve, the story of the duck, sheep, and rooster who formed the first flight crew, Priceman's narrative is sure to delight both young readers and parents alike. (Reassurance: no animals were harmed in the telling of this Enlightenment-era tale). But the illustrations are the real treasure here (and the Caldecott committee concurs). While infused with the same spirited energy as her earlier books--How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin, Emeline at the Circus--the panels in Hot Air glow with a luminosity that outshines even Priceman's earlier work.

Harriet kept busy with many hobbies, while flighty Winnie was often bored. So when that sly fox Mr. Johnson happened by Winnie's garden, she couldn't resist the chance to live a little and climbed into the basket of his balloon. Now it's up to Harriet to save her foolish friend from Mr. Johnson's fricassee potand there are chases galore, hairsbreadth escapes, clever disguises, and lots more tomfoolery before she does. James Marshall's clever wit and lively sense of the absurd keep this hilarious romp rollicking along from start to cliff-hanging finish.

This book entertains, points out the importance of reading, and makes you laugh out loud.
What a great push for reading!.......2000-06-23
An excellent book for teaching the importance of reading and gaining an awareness of simlarities in plot. Poor Winnie learns that she may the next 'stuffed chicken for dinner' as a result of not wanting to read a famous tale. The story takes the reader on a rollercoaster of 'what-ifs' and creates wonderful moments for predicting text. I will be using this story for numerous lessons in my classroom, from developing a sense of story to partner predictions. Excellent illustrations, too!

How to Make Balloon Animals.......2007-01-12
I ordered this for a balloon animals booth we had at our annual Rotary Community Carnival. Our town is small so everyone comes to the carnival. The booth's "barker" needed ideas and this book provided them.
We already had the balloons and the book came in time for him to try out all the ideas. The children love the balloon animals.

Bites!!!.......2006-12-29
Great photos! Bad instructions. Photos have no arrows showing which way to turn balloon sections & the next photo looks nothing like the last. The balloon kit that comes with it was awful. I bought this thinking it was just a book. The balloons were old & broke easily, the crappy pump was dollar store quality. Not a Good buy.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2006-09-07
I got this book for my daughter after she learned a little balloon making in camp. She loves it and is able to make the shapes with no adult help. There are some very cute balloon ideas in this book. My daughter says, "I'm nine years old and I think if you know a few twists, you'll love it. Most things are easy to make and a lot of fun if you like doing balloons. I hope you try it."
Disappointing, but entertaining.......2004-07-10
If you are in need of new jokes to crack while you create balloon shapes, this is a nice resource. If you want to create recognizable balloon animals, you will find better instructions in other balloon books.
The black and white illustrations show the infated balloon with all the bubbles you will need for the shape. The connections between bubbles are indicated by arrows, but the size of each bubble isn't always mentioned in the text and is never indicated on the illustration. The finished product is shown, complete with the faces you'll need to add to the shapes to make them distinguishable.
This book does contain a wider variety of balloon animals and shapes than other books I've used. It covers basic and advanced animals as well as balloon hats and games.
Overall, it is a good visual reference for possible balloon creations, but other balloon books are better for actual instructions on how to make each shape. Perhaps this book will inspire creativity in people who have already mastered and become bored with the basics.
My last comment refers to the paperback edition of this book. It is a challenge to keep the book open to the correct page while using both hands to make your balloon creations! I recommend finding a spiral bound book so it will stay open while you work.
You must have some experience.......2003-07-15
This book is contain many form of animals with one 260 Q balloon. It's a good book but you must have some experience to twist with it. This book is not in colour pages. Your customer will like it but you must do some joke while you twist any.

Book Description
While on vacation, George and the man with the yellow hat stop to see Mt. Rushmore. There's no time to take a helicopter ride for a close-up view - the hot air balloon races are about to start! Whisked up and away at the races, a surprised George gets a close-up view of the presidents after all. The adventures of Curious George continue in an all-new series beginning in fall 1998 with eight new stories. Written and illustrated in the style of Margret and H. A. Rey, the books will appear in paperback (8 x 8") and hardcover editions and will feature the art of Vipah Interactive, the animators of HMI's Curious George CD-ROMs.

One of Katy's favorites.......2002-03-24
My 3 year old daughter Katy loves the Curious George books. She particularly like this one and wants to read it almost every night. As an aside, the book has taught Katy about the presidents on Mt. Rushmore and she wants to go to South Dakota to see them!
Curious George Strikes Again.......2000-06-23
Curious George and the Hot Air Balloon is another charming example of the magic Margret and H.A. Rey weave. Children will find this book enchanting. They will identify with George's curiousity, which causes trouble, and cheer when he saves the day. I enjoyed the delightful pictures. I also appreciated the simple, straighforward language and easy-to-follow story development. Fans of Curious George will love this story; those unfamiliar with his books will become fans.

Customer Reviews:
For this and all the rabbit books.......2005-07-09
I am a Developmental Specialist and do Early Intervention with children 0-3 who have delays and disabilities. Some of my older 2's on the Autism Spectrum really enjoyed Gray Rabbit's 1-2-3! for it's simple language and counting concepts. After each reading, one boy enjoyed looking at the other books on the back cover so much that I started collecting them. Changing books can be hard on some children who prefer the familiar only. With the Rabbit series I was able to bring in many more concept books and they were readiliy accepted by my toughest listeners. Plus, as an educator who has to read/work with the books over and over and over, I find them charming and adorable and I never get tired of seeing them!
Discover Shapes With a Brown Bunny!.......2002-10-12
For a toddler's book about shapes, this book packs a lot! There are bright colors, a clever discovery story in which our rabbit hero finds packages inside packages, and words that are fun to say (e.g., "Whoosh" and "Curly-wurly"). There's even some droll humor as Rabbit is described as "rabbit-shaped!" Along the way, kids will see examples of a rectangle, an oval, a circle, a square, as well as a tube and other interesting shapes. Nice bright colors and a warm, soft-looking bunny make this 21-page book a winner!
great little book.......2001-12-30
I bought six of the paperback rabbit books for my 22 month old
daughter and she loves them. The little rabbits are so cute
and the author is very creative in the way he integrates learning
concepts into the plot of the stories. These books are definite
winners at a reasonable price.
A Wonderful Member of a Wonderful Series.......2000-03-31
A beautiful concept book with a very likable character. The text and illustrations go well together, making the whole book comprehensible for young readers eager to learn.
Book Description
The Fourth of July is no day for danger but that's just what's in store for the Bean Farm gang in Freddy and the Perilous Adventure. It all seemed so strange and exciting at first: Emma and Alice, Bean Farm's favorite ducks, and the intrepid Freddy, off for a glorious balloon ride to celebrate the nation's birthday. Of course, if Freddy and Emma and Alice and the other denizens of Bean Farm had known what was really in store for the brave aerialists in the Balloon Ascension they might just as well have remained quietly at home, listening to Freddy's poetry or to the boastful crowing of Charles.
Customer Reviews:
The Ducks Lead the Way.......2002-01-22
When Freddy, in a sudden burst of irrepressible impishness manages to convince Emma and Alice, the Bean Farm ducks, to go for a balloon ride, he little expects that he too will have to take part in the adventure. But Mr. Golcher, the balloonist is every bit as sly as Freddy and, in no time at all Freddy has agreed not only to give a speech, but to ride with the ducks. What he also didn't realize until he was on the way up was that Mr. Golcher was staying behind, and that our pig, along with the duck sisters were on their own. When it turns out that the balloon has a faulty valve our not quite intrepid adventurers discover that they are in for an extended voyage.
All is not lost by any means. Freddy talks a friendly bald eagle into bringing them a food basket from the Bean kitchen, they weather a stormy night, and see some splendid scenery. Eventually, as all things do, the balloon descends enough for Freddy to get it down. Freddy leaves the ducks with the balloon and, after borrowing a tuxedo from a scarecrow, heads off to investigate. He soon discovers that the worst has happened. Mr. Golcher, infuriated at the loss of his balloon has accused Freddy of stealing it and the police of several counties are trying to capture the pig and bring him to justice. It will take all of Freddy's vast imagination and the help of both the Bean animals and the entire Boomschmidt Circus to get him out of trouble.
The reader will find many familiar characters here. In addition to the denizens of the Bean Farm and the Circus, Emma and Alice's Uncle Wesley manages to return. In addition, there are parachuting mice, somersaulting ducks and an ostrich ticket taker. Nor can one leave out the noble eagle, Breckenridge, who inspires a whole burst of poetry from Freddy. By the time the book reaches its climax the reader will be completely entranced as animals display character and style that we lowly humans can only imitate.
One of the nicest things about Walter Brooks' world is that the inevitable moral lessons are demonstrated rather than taught. And demonstrated in a delightful, ingenious way. In 1942 Brooks uses two timid lady ducks to demonstrate that adventuring is not just for male chauvinists and that having the courage to stand up for your rights keeps bullies at bay. Freddy's honesty saves the day at the end, and, as always, the importance of friends gets a good plug. Best of all is that the right things to do are also fun to do. Freddy is the pig for all ages.
