1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing.......2007-10-04

I couldn't even finish this book, I made it halfway through and couldn't take the romantic interest any longer. I've never not finished a book before, but with all the "How you say.." crap I couldn't take it and I really wanted to like it. Most of the reviews were good ones I just don't understand what I missed. I even tried to give it another chance but still couldn't get into it.

5 out of 5 stars Fun new series!.......2007-09-06

I am ashamed to say that I did not purchase this book, but read it from the library. I am a loyal fan of Abby Cooper, so for some reason I resisted change and did not think I could like this series as well. Chalk another up for Ms. Laurie, I loved it!! It gave me the creepy crawlies at times, but that was part of the fun. MJ is a likeable character, and even though I'd normally say there's overuse of the "gay best friend" in chick lit land, Gilley is a good sidekick for MJ. My only teensy weensy dislike was that Steven's misuse of the English language got a little tiresome, and there were a few phrases that didn't seem natural for him to botch the way he did. But who cares. The storyline was well thought out, and interesting to read, and as with Abby Cooper's Psychic eye mysteries, Ms. Laurie has given a glimpse of her gift in fiction format, making me want to learn more. I see that "Crime Seen" is out, so I'd better hop down to Barnes to get it, and while I'm at it, I'll probably pick up "Ghoul" as well, since I'll want to read it again.

5 out of 5 stars A fun start to a new series.......2007-08-31

What's a Ghoul to Do? is book 1 in a new series (Ghost Hunter Mysteries) by Victoria Laurie. M.J. and her partner Gilley, initially made a appearance in Book 3 (A Vision of Murder) of her Psychic Eye Mystery series.

M.J. is a medium, who enjoys using her gift to "bust" ghosts. She helps send them where they belong...to the other side. Gilley is her business partner and best friend. The two find themselves on a case where the client, Dr. Sable, wishes to contact his grandfather's ghost. Plus, he wants to be involved in the investigation process.

I had a fun time reading this story. I liked the quirky characters. M.J. owns a parrot named Doc, who has that name after a distant relative, Doc Holliday. That made me smile. I also think the author did a great job with Dr. Sable's broken English. I found reading his dialog parts highly entertaining. Plus, I liked the twists and turns and layers she created with this mystery as well.

All in all...a quick read that makes for a good time and a perfect commuter read.

1 out of 5 stars How do you say, Big Disappointment .......2007-08-28

I love Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye series, I've enjoyed each Abby Cooper book and highly recommend to readers of Romance and/or Mystery. So when I saw "What's A Ghoul to Do?", a new series, I was eager to read more by this author. I was sadly disappointed, and found it very annoying! Victoria Laurie is a good enough writer that I was able to force myself to finish reading the book, just so I could find out what happened, but I won't bother reading the next one. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who does chose to read it but the hero has a really really annoying habit that might be charming in real life but has a serious cringe factor on paper. And the torture never ends, it is throughout the book! (WARNING -- SPOILER FOLLOWS)
It is the equivalent of having a character mispronounce words, then another character constantly correcting the mispronounciation!! Oh right, what is annoying in real life becomes excruciating on paper! And at the end, we find this annoying guy will return in the second book. Lets hope he learns to saw the english, I mean, speak english, before then. Aaagh!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully refreshing..............2007-08-17

I've read alot of wonderful reviews about Vickie's books, and I decided to give them a try. Really enjoyed reading this book. The story has a touch of paranormal mixed with a realistic theme. I also have to give her a thumbs-up with the characters, and even the minor charcters were very well introduced and played out. Liked this book so well that I've pre-ordered the second book of this series. Read this book, I think that you will enjoy it. Also glad that she is making this book into a series.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Trademark humor but lacking some sense... *SOME SPOILERS*.......2007-07-30

Julie Kenner's brand of humor is clear throughout the book, and she's got teenage angst and dialogue down pat (which is true of her soccer mom demon hunter series as well). Which would seem to make this a shoo-in for at least 4 stars. On the other, though many parts of this book made me laugh, others didn't make sense to me.

**SOME SPOILERS BELOW**

For example, even though the teen protagonist, Beth, herself admits she wasn't quite thinking when she got suckered by Stephen Mills and his pals, there are many instances when she seemed incredibly stupid. All the signs were there that things weren't what they seemed to be when the Queen Bitches invited her to join their squad, but those were discarded. And what bad guy (or good guy for that matter) wouldn't have a product tested before use, esp if it meant a gruesome death if the product didn't work? That is, blind faith probably wouldn't happen. That should have occurred to Beth early on... why would she think that Stephen would use the cream without having someone else test it... which would have been bad news for Beth. Then, when Nelson was unconscious in the gym, that would've been a good time to take care of him, but the thought never occurred to her and she was left with a witness who disappeared. There are several instances of commonsensical things like that that just slipped.

Someone also needs to do some fact-checking. Regardless of whether Beth's dad is a doctor or not, and whether or not Beth has a part-time job in a hospital lab, all blood products in a hospital blood bank are tightly regulated. There's a chronic blood shortage in the USA and elsewhere, each unit of blood is labeled and entered into a database, and whenever the units are removed from the blood bank, they have to be signed out with various forms. Maybe 1 unit of blood (unlikely, but let's be generous; maybe the blood is unusable for whatever reason) could be given out for a student project but several? A dozen?

A "routine" operation can require 6 units of blood or more. Think of how many units would be needed for a trauma patient or a major surgery. No hospital can spare so many units for non-patient care, much less a purported project. Questions would definitely be asked.

Regarding vampires and college. NYU was mentioned. Well, like so many universities, NYU does offer night classes. While it's not the way many students would like to attend college, the opportunity is there. I admit I don't know what reasonable excuse a student like Beth who's going to graduate high school (as opposed to a working adult or one with family) could give for wanting to attend night class rather than regular day classes, but I'm surprised that that option isn't even raised.

There were also loose ends that may have been deliberately left out and might be addressed in the sequel, one of which involved college boys Kevin and his brother. Who are they really and how did they know what was going on at Beth's school and the club where Beth first meets him? The same with Clayton and his grandfather. How did they know about vampires, etc?

**SOME SPOILERS ABOVE**

Things such as the above made what should have been an easy, fun read less smooth than they could have been. I'll be checking out the sequel, Good Ghouls Do, from the library.

See MaryJanice Davidson and Anthony Alongi's Jennifer Scales series as an example of humorous young adult books that work (Jennifer Scales and the Ancient Furnace (A Jennifer Scales Novel, Book 1), Jennifer Scales and the Messenger of Light, and The Silver Moon Elm).

My recommendations for other great young adult books (albeit they're darker tales) are Holly Black's A Modern Faerie Tale series (Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, Ironside, and Valiant), Herbie Brennan's The Faerie Wars Chronicles (Faerie Wars, The Purple Emperor, Ruler of the Realm, and the upcoming Faerie Lord), Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series (Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, Book 1), The Dead Girls' Dance, and the forthcoming Midnight Alley), and Gena Showalter's Teen Alien Huntress series (Red Handed (Teen Alien Huntress), Blacklisted).

5 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-07-03

Beth Fasier should have noticed all the signs that were around her. She should have trusted her gut that something was wrong, but instead she just ignored it.

Beginning her junior year, Beth had everything she had worked for. From the possibility of being valedictorian of her class to getting closer to being able to go to school at NYU. But if only Beth hadn't worked so hard, then maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't be where she is today.

It all began when Beth decided to try out for the drill team, only to make her activities seem well-rounded. Unfortunately, Beth didn't make it since Tamara, a very popular cheerleader, told the coach to not let Beth on the team. Tamara had a different motive -- she wanted Beth to be on the cheerleader squad. Right then Beth should have known that something was wrong, but instead, when hearing that hottie Stephen Wills was going to be at one of the cheer practices, Beth knew she had to go. After all, it is Stephen Wills.

Turns out Stephen had asked Tamara to put Beth on the team, since he's had his eye on her for awhile. Of course, Beth was flattered, and when Stephen asked her out on a date Beth just couldn't say no. But when the most popular guy asks someone like Beth out on a date, she should have known that something was just not right.

It was too late for Beth, though, since on her date, Stephen bites Beth -- making her a fellow member of the undead.

Beth's life is over as she knows it, until her academic enemy, Clayton, tell hers that there is a possible chance for her to turn back into her usual self. But can Beth muster up the strength to actually do it?

Known for her books on the paranormal, Julie Kenner puts her own twist on what seems to be a hot topic in most teen novels, vampires. THE GOOD GHOULS' GUIDE TO GETTING EVEN may seem like another typical vampire story, but as the book gets going, readers will begin to notice that this novel is different from the rest of the pack. Fans of the undead will not be disappointed in Julie Kenner's new novel. Be sure to watch out for the sequel, Good Ghouls Do, which releases in October.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read.......2007-05-13

I would have given this a 5 for entertainment value alone, but I actually bought it thinking my pre-teen could read it, and I was wrong. Aside from a few 4 letter words (probably less than her 5th grade classmates say in the course of a day) there was sexual content. Not much, but it was there, in the form of fondling and some saucey dialogue.
Now, I enjoyed it and I am 32, but - it will sit on the shelf for like 7 years before I let my 10 year old read it. I don't want her thinking of how good it might feel to have a guy fondle her breast just yet...
Aside from not being clear on the actual age group it is recommended for, my only complaint it I can't stand to see the word schlep which finds its way into every Julie Kenner book I read. However, that is just a personal thing, doesn't affect the quality of the book.
It's good, just read it before you decide to let your child read it.

5 out of 5 stars Vampy fun!.......2007-04-14

I'm a fan of Julie Kenner's books, so I was happy when I saw she wrote a teen book.
I wasn't the least bit disappointed in this book, considering it's target is the teen audience and I'm an adult. I think all teens and even adults will enjoy reading this fun and cute tale of a geeky and unpopular girl named Beth turning into a vampire on her 16th birthday. I cant wait for the sequel!

My recommendations along with this:
Braced2Bite, Fangs 4 Freaks and Dating4Demons all by Serena Robar
Boys That Bite and Stake That! by Mari Mancusi

5 out of 5 stars Stellar!.......2007-04-03

Elizabeth "Beth" Frasier has a totally dysfunctional family. Her mother is a lawyer. Her father is a doctor. You would think having successful, well-to-do parents is a GOOD thing. On the contrary, it means they have ZERO time for her. Before they got divorced six months ago, all Beth's parents did was fight and their grumpiness was hard to deal with. Now, the parents are still the exact same way. The only difference is that they live in separate places. However, their indifference toward Beth comes in handy on her sixteenth birthday though. (Yes, Beth's dad forgot all about her Sweet Sixteenth birthday! As for Beth's mom, she simply had her secretary order a gift certificate to a book store and then ending up giving it to Beth a day late!) But this means that neither parent even noticed that Beth never came home that night ... or that Beth had become a vampire!

Beth has a major crush on Stephen Wills, the high school's star football player. So Beth is thrilled when Stephen suddenly seems to take interest in her. Beth never expects Stephen to kill her or turn her into a vampire! But Stephen has a task that only Beth can do. After all, Beth is smart! She's valedictorian. But all Beth wants is revenge against Stephen and the "popular girls" who lured her into Stephen's clutches.

Beth's best friend, Jenny, is on her side. So is Clayton, after he failed to stake her. According to Clayton, Beth can get her life back if she kills her "Creator" (A.K.A. her Master). Problem is that a vampire cant' stake their Master. And once Beth drinks from a living person, she `s doomed for eternity. Should that happen, Clayton and his grandpa would be gunning for her again. Worse, college aged vampire hunters are in the immediate area. What's an undead girl supposed to do?

***** I have not had this much fun with a teen book in a looong time! Beth is not only smart, but she is witty and filled with sass! Her friends are the same, but Beth just has it all in spades! The story is go great that I did not want it to end. So I am thrilled to find that there will be a second novel in this series. Don't worry, this book will NOT leave you hanging. It is fun watching Beth and her friends get even with Stephen and the cheerleaders, as well as, against the various other popular kids who got her turned into a vampire. But the author, Julie Kenner, is a Master at story telling! Again, the ending does not leave you hanging, but it does set up a problem that will obviously have to be handled in a part two. "Buffy" and "Firefly", move over! There is a new show in town. STELLAR! *****

5 out of 5 stars Ghoul- A Great Brian Keene Book!.......2007-10-03

Ghoul is a great book that is eerie and has a great story about childhood friends that have problems in their family lives and with the ghoul. I love Brian Keene books and I havent been disappointed with one yet.

4 out of 5 stars Satisfying But Nothing New For The Genre.......2007-09-22

While I certainly enjoyed Brian Keene's new book, the standard idea of someone breaking a sigil that frees a captive fill-in-the-blank monster was slightly disappointing. I was hoping for something new from Keene. However, following the troubled lives of the young characters was refreshing and deeply moving at times. I didn't care for the ghoul when he decided to talk - frankly, it took me out of the story - but the suspense was nice and the location details were perfect without being overly descriptive and confusing. This seemed like a little departure from Keene's more hardcore writing, but I think it was a nice break for him and showed a more mature side that I'd like to see more of. I probably enjoyed this book even more then I should have because the town I grew up in was very similar. This is a solid horror tale that is definitely recommended, though.

2 out of 5 stars Not one of his best..........2007-09-15

I thoroughly enjoy Brian Keene's work... with the sole exception of this book. The novel feels rushed and the character development is stunted.

If you're looking for a moving, gripping, 'coming-of-age' horror novel in the tradition of Stephen King's 'It', this is not the book for you. I highly recommend picking up a copy of Dan Simmons' 'Summer of Night' instead; Simmons' novel is one of the greatest works of horror fiction (or any genre, for that matter) available today and may, I suspect, have strongly influenced Mr. Keene when writing 'Ghoul'.

Read 'Summer of Night' by Dan Simmons. Read ANYTHING by Brian Keene other than 'Ghoul'.

4 out of 5 stars A fast read........2007-09-11

This monster story is told from the perspective of a 12-year old boy, and while it's an entertaining story overall, it's difficult to acheive the suspension of disbelief necessary to really buy into the story. The references to the 1980s were really fun, but the boys' home lives really sucked.

2 out of 5 stars "Ghoul" Disappoints.......2007-08-24

I liked what Brian Keene did with his great zombie reads "The Rising" and "City of the Dead." Both are good apocalyptic "Dawn of the Dead (Divimax Edition)" style thrillers with plenty of blood and gore to satisfy the masses, and well developed characters. To me, Brian's one of the rising stars of the Horror genre, and I look forward to each new book he puts out. However, I know it's impossible to hit a homerun each time at bat, and that brings us to "Ghoul."

"Ghoul" just didn't work for me at all. It had all the ingredients of a great read, but it seemed as if they were all hastily mixed together, and prematurely taken out of the oven. There are some really good coming-of-age novels out there -- Robert McCammon's "Boy's Life" and Stephen King's "Different Seasons (Signet)," come to mind - but this one isn't one of them. The basic components are there - the bonds of friendship, the last summer of childhood, and the transition from child to adult - but they fall flat. One of the biggest aggravations of the book was the excessive 80's references, almost done in a forced namedropping fashion. After a while, I began to think, okay...I get it; this takes place in 1984....

The character development in "Ghoul" was in need of more...well... development. Timmy Graco, the main character, seemed wooden and wise beyond his years. I have read several reviews already that make this point, stating that Keene often confuses his voice with that of twelve-year-old Timmy's. Timmy's dad, Randy Graco, I thought, had some major development issues. Was he an irrational screwball or a loving father? If anything, he was portrayed as a borderline schizophrenic, teetering between loving, understanding father, and despoiler of childhood imagination. Probably the worst developed of all was the ghoul himself. We get a little bit of history, but not much more than a legend relayed by the town's reverend. And I don't think the ghoul had a name; if he did, I missed it. I would have loved to have known more about how the race came about, more about its motivations - for instance, why it chose this particular town. And as for his physical description and the way he spoke, I could only picture a scrawny, nude Mr. Burns from "The Simpsons."

"Ghoul" attempts to reach the depth of highly regarded coming of age novels such as "Boy's Life," (which I HIGHLY recommend), but misses the mark by a wide margin.

As I mentioned at the outset of this review, I like Brian Keene's work. He's written some really good Horror novels -- "The Rising" and "Dead Sea" are well done and fun reads. "Ghoul," however, isn't one of them.

2 out of 5 stars Not for kids..........2007-06-17

This book is only so-so as a drawing book, whether for beginners or more advanced artists. The pictures are weird, and not aesthetically pleasing, even for monsters. However, this is definitely not a book for kids. The pictures are frightening enough to give kids nightmares. Think horror. Not a very useful book.

3 out of 5 stars Pink?.......2007-05-09

I ordered the library editions of this book for my grandson and another little boy and I was surprised that a "draw your own monster" book would come with a pink cover! I was also a little disappointed in the array of superheroes, but I'm sure copyright restrictions made it necessary to exclude Superman, Spiderman, Batman and so on. This is a case where actually seeing the book before purchasing would have been a help. Vona Van Cleef

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2006-01-26

I can't draw very well, so I bought this book to improve my drawing. This is a Great book for beginners! Gives you an idea how to start off and how it should looked finished! Awesome book as a "get started guide type". And After you got the idea of how to start to draw the monsters you can create your own. Perfect idea for kids that love to draw!

5 out of 5 stars Great basic drawing book for the young AND young-at-heart........1997-02-22

Lee Ames does another excellent job, as he does with his entire "Draw 50" series. His step-by-step format is easy to use and quite rewarding as well. Ames is the only drawing artist that simplifies the drawings so that anyone can follow and become adept at drawing intriguing figures. This particular edition contains a great variety of characters to draw and will be on and off any doodler's bookshelf for years

I loved it! Max Can actully play soccer because of the berseker Ghoul!Read the book to find out how Max talks! It's Really Funny! Ha-ha-hee-hee!

3 out of 5 stars Still Not All That Impressed.......2006-09-26

Here we are at the second in the Mostly Ghostly series, and I'm still not all that impressed with it. What I didn't like in the first one carries over to Have you Met My Ghoulfriend?, in spades! The characters are all very flat and stereotypical...the father and brother only becoming bigger bullies, the mom more annoying, even the teachers and principal are just caricatures...there because they have to be, not really fleshed out or made believable or interesting.

In this second volume, Max is STILL having issues and Max and Tara are still appearing and disappearing without much control over it. Phears is back and badder than ever...you'd thank Max would run from any and all animals at this point! Max is under threat of being "broken" by a ghoul if he doesn't nark on Nicky and Tara. You know, Phears seems incredibly dense, no one actually knows where the parents are, yet he doesn't get the message even after incredible doses of pain to his detainees...it just feels too drawn out...a ghost that's been around for a long time and is so very powerful ought to be a bit brighter! Disappointing also is the stark admission that Max is ok and loved by his father without question for the brief and shining moment he does well at a soccer match...tisk, tisk...was this really necessary? I'm only on book 2 and I'm sick of the poor Max, he's so misunderstood shtick. I'd like to see the author move on from this and flesh out (no pun intended) the mystery of Nicky and Tara and give Max some guts for goodness sake!

For the most part, the book is fairly predictable, but I did like the ending...I won't give it away here, but it was nice to see Max take some initiative and get one over one someone else for a change! I'll continue on for a few more and see if the series improves any...I sure hope it does, because I'd hate to give it up before finding out what really happened to Nicky and Tara (and their parents) because underneath what I don't like so far, I think there's a really good scary story! I give it a B-.

Phears is back. And this time he's brought a friend, A berserker ghoul. The friend hasn't come to play with Max. The friend has come to stay with Max. And with the Ghoul inside him. Max is one wild and crazy guy.

This book is not just for those who are fans of the CW show Supernatural. Eric Kripke, creator of the show, prides himself on the validity of the legends and myths he uses in his show. This book gives background information about things encounted by the Winchesters with a few new critters added in. The text uses Sam and Dean's voices for each section and fans of the show can easily pick out which Winchester is speaking each time. This book is a must for those who want to learn more about urban legends and things that roam the night.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars I'm Not Wild About this Story.......2006-11-16

Ghouls Gone Wild is the fifth book in the Mostly Ghostly series and here we find Max initially excited about his parents plans to sell their house and move to Texas where his father may have a new job lined up, especially after Nicky & Tara (his two live in ghost friends) get him into hot water by dunking the Mayor in the school swimming pool...on camera even. We discover (through Nicky and Tara) that there is a Ghoul (or two) running amok in the house and it's Nicky and Tara who find an old spell book and tell Max that they'll take care of it. When he realizes what great friends they are trying to be, Max knows he must do something about his parent's plan to sell the house...if you want to find out more about the Ghouls and if Max manages to succeed in sabotaging his parents, you'll have to read the book!

Overall, it's about the same as the previous in terms of what I like and dislike about this series. Max's brother is still an overbearing bully who is physically abusive (this goes beyond brotherly razzing in my opinion and I'm not all that fond of this aspect of the series), his father is also a bully, prizing brawn over brains who is generally permissive of the brothers abuse and verbally abusive himself, the mom is not much more than a doormat in these tales. Despite this, Max's character generally shines despite his clumsiness, his "helpful" ghost friends, and his torment at the hands of his brother...that is to say that he generally does the right thing and doesn't dwell on the negative things in life, and that in itself is a positive message for kids, that and the ever present message that friends (dead or alive) are always the most important thing...that you should always be ther for them!

As for the story...it's interesting, but I get the feeling that this was more exposition for a later volume as the story was short on the details of the Ghouls (with reason), the whole thing just felt like one big build up for something that didn't happen in THIS story, so it should be interesting to see where the next ones goes. This wasn't particularly scary...it also wasn't gory or even mildly creepy. My main question is what's up with the shadowy figure in black...I was left with the feeling that the ONLY reason to read this is to have the filler for something that's going to happen down the line. I give it a C-...there wasn't a whole lot going on here...and what was going on wasn't terribly frightening.

5 out of 5 stars friendship.......2006-03-16

this book is about this boy named max and he find this to ghost named nicky and tara. The two ghoss who live with. They need him. HE's the only one who can help them become real kids again!
But Max has another problem right now. A figure dressed in black, with a face hidden in. It's a boy or is it? That's what Max needs to know, because this shadowy figure is following Max. Watching him. waiting for him. this book is also a great book for all ages. For example onev of the exciting parts are when max has to give speech to his class mates and messes thing up. He does not realy mess it up on his own it was the help of the ghost friends. The main plot would be that they have to figure out who is the misyrious figure is.

4 out of 5 stars Good Story.......2007-04-04

Tressa Jayne, news reporter determined to get a good story, and her journalistic partner Shelby Lynne are persistent at trying to interview famous hometown author, Elizabeth Courtney Howard. They hear that Mrs. Howard is home for a few days. Unfortunately, the author is reclusive and eccentric - but will she give in and give them the interview? The journalistic duo go to great and desparate lengths to get an interview.

Meanwhile, Tressa Jayne's grandmother moves in with her. There are lots of activities and adventures in the book. I really like Tressa Jayne and her cool grandmother.

The book is a bit drawn out. And there are elements in it I do not like. Also, I was disappointed because there was not much (or any) "Halloween Fun" in the form of pumpkins, orange cookies, etc. I would not consider this book a cozy.

But most of all, the book was good. It was very well written; the writing style was cute; and the plot was good.

5 out of 5 stars Funny Mystery.......2007-01-05

Great! I really enjoyed reading the third Calamity Jayne book. Reminds me of Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich.

4 out of 5 stars amusing lighthearted mystery .......2006-10-04

Grandville Gazette tyro reporter Tressa "Calamity" Jayne feels she needs to stop making the news (see CALAMITY JANE and CALAMITY JANE RIDES AGAIN) instead of reporting the news. She vows to follow insipid events to keep out of trouble and avoid psychos, lunatics, and cops.

Tressa interviews 6 foot 2 inch sarcastic homecoming queen candidate Shelby Lynne, who challenges Calamity to obtain an interview with reclusive New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Courtney Howard. The writer quietly has arrived in Iowa. Tressa accepts the gauntlet deciding to interview the author as the young journalist assumes no trouble can come of that. However, the writer goes to incredible lengths to elude the obstinate Tressa starting with staying at haunted Holloway Hall. However the intrepid reporter with the towering female student taunting her soon gets involved with the strange events at Holloway Hall.

The third Calamity Jayne tale is an amusing lighthearted mystery with a touch of the paranormal. Readers will enjoy the antics of the heroine who wants to cover fluff, but from the opening face to upper torso battle between the two sarcastic female warriors until the final showdown at Holloway Hall, calamity follows every step Tressa takes. Readers will just have fun with Kathleen Bacus' humorous romp.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful blast from the past!.......2007-03-23

For anyone who is a John Zacherle fan and has lived through any of his incarnations, this book is a "must-have", a real blast from the past! The book covers the full scope of John Zacherle's broadcasting career, from how he initially got into broadcasting, his time as "Roland" in Philadelphia, his re-emergence as "Zacherley" in New York, the Disco-teen years, his years in radio, right up to recent years with his appearances at the Chiller Theater conventions. However, this is not a standard bio, as the author brings to it the unique perspective of someone who has personally known the subject and lived through many of Zach's experiences with him. A fascinating tome about a fascinating man. A good read, which should make for you a "Goodnight, whatever you are!"[Zacherle's Monster Mash PartyThe Zacherley ArchivesDr. Horror's Erotic House of Idiots[ASIN:B0007EKXMO Zacherley's vulture stew (Ballantine Books ; 417K)]]Zacherley's Midnight Snacks

GOODNIGHT, WHATEVER YOU ARE? is an intelligent, thoughtful and passionate account of growing up in the 60s, and could very well be the milestone of "Monster Kid" books, expertly capturing the spirit of a more innocent and hopeful era.

I would recommend this book for any "child" of the late 50's or 60's who considers him or herself to be a fan of Zacherley. It was a very fast and interesting read for those interested in Zach and the path his career took on TV and radio. The book also provides some valuable personal insights into John Zacherley the man as seen through the eyes of one devoted fan. It paints John as a kind man who was very greatful for the love and attention of his fans. The book also features three factual appendices for people who loved the old Universal horror movies and the successful run they had on New York television when hosted by Zach.
