Good - Use with care.......2007-05-09
I have never before used an ouija board and have been terrifed of them most of my life due to some stories. However because I am attracted to angels I was attracted to this and I am so glad I got it! I am able to keep in contact with my loved ones. I recommend ALWAYS praying for protection before hand and asking for only beings of light to come through. If a suspected unwanted spirit comes thro say "please leave" and it should leave. Use with respect and care.

Good book but not enough detail.......2007-09-21
I liked the content of this book but was dissapointed in how short the book was. I also think the book is overpriced for it's size. I would have liked it much better had the author given more stories or examples of past ouija experiences. Anyone using a ouija board for the first time would like more details of what actually happens and what is said during a session before they attempt it themselves. I think all the book needs is to be expanded and it would then be a great book.

Great book that uncovers the misunderstood truth of Ouija- the device was never intended to contact "evil spirits" or "the dead"- it's intended use is similar to another misunderstood oracle, the Tarot, as a "spritual oracle" to help gain positive wisdom and insight.
I have used the board for years(properly)and only received positive, loving words of encouragment. I say a prayer to god for guidance before & after use. If it is used in a devious manner, or even friviously, it may very well provide unsettling information. It may very well be(like personal computers?)capable of good or bad information depending on THE USER, not the board itself- something to think about.
Those Who Don't Understand The Ouija Board.......2005-05-30
My comments here are directed to "Walter Walter" I find it very rude and arrogant of you to insist that Virginia Kent does not truthfully know how too instruct someone to use the Ouija Board safely.When I could say the same thing of you can you truthfully say that you can tell others how too use a Ouija Board by telling them NOT TOO? just because your experience was BAD doesn't mean EVERYONE will have the same kind of experience.I have used Ouija Boards off and on since 1991 and never encountered any DEMONS or FRIGHTENING situations or experiences all of them were POSITIVE.I don't know for sure but I doubt very seriously you have 30 yrs experience like Virginia Kent does but either way your experience does not DICTATE the total TRUTH and neither does Virginia's for that matter what both you and her experiences do say is that the OUIJA BOARD does work and you can have Spiritual Contact and that some people will have POSITIVE experiences and others will have NEGATIVE experiences.So basically BOTH of you are CORRECT you encountered DEMONS she encountered SPIRITS you had BAD experiences she had GOOD ones.

Having read "My friend the Ouija Board" by Virginia Kent Roberts,and after reading the negative reviews of this book, I realize some people are still misinformed in The Magickal (Occult) arts and practices including the Ouija board. I feel as a practicing witch, (Incidentally, a male witch is not a warlock, a witch is a witch, whether they are male or female). As a Witch, I have become closer to GOD through my own faith, and as a practitioner, the important thing to remember is that you do not have to change your religion or faith, although I see it in a different, and more profound light. Witchcraft is for the gregarious and intuitive who are sympathetic to the earth, and close to nature. By studying the Magickal Arts, has helped me to realize that all gods and goddesses have their source in the One Supreme, Divine, Transcendent and All-Powerful Being,"GOD". The very word 'Occult' brings shivers to many peoples spines and yet the true meaning of this word is from the Latin 'hidden from general view'. This is such a vague term which could mean a wide range of activities connected with the supernatural, from seances to black magic, from reading one's horoscope in the newspaper to child abuse. The term occult has also come to have a largely sinister connotation and association to Satanism, which is untrue. The truth on the Ouija Board, which is also known as a talking board, is a Spiritual Power Tool that has been used in various forms for thousands of years to contact Higher Realms of Consciousness. It is said that Pythagoras (circa 580-500 B.C.), the Great Mathematician, used a talking board of his own invention to receive some of his mathematical theorems, the most famous of which, the Pythagorean Theorem, is taught in every school around the world today. Because of centuries of ignorance, misuse and superstition, the talking Ouija Board has received bad press. There are rules and laws to guide us in our daily lives, we must apply these same rules when practicing the Magickal Arts. As in life, there is good and bad, We determine what choices we make. Ignorance, lack of information, lack of knowledge and ill preparation are reasons for the negative vibes received through The Ouija Board. Positive attracts positive, if you spend your time with negative people they will influence you in a negative way. If you spend time with positive people, your life will be easier and happier. If you approach it with respect and sincerity, you will have a genuine experience and learn a lot about yourself. The Ouija Board should be approached with the attitude of an apprentice magician: be cautious, and question everything. Never allow yourself or anyone else to risk anything-especially health, safety, reputation, money, or property-on the basis of any information received from The Ouija Board, unless and untill it's researched thoroughly and benefitted from the advice and counsel of one or more professionals who are thoroughly experienced and licensed in this particular field. The "Clowns" who believe they can drink alcohol, or use drugs and expect anything positive and sacred to happen are the ones who suffer the most. Like all things religious and sacred, it should be treated with respect. One does not indulge in various spirits or illicit drugs in a Spiritual Place of Worship, so please don't expect to appeal to the Higher Realms of Consciousness in this manner. There are various cleansing rituals, protection prayers, and ethical codes of conduct which must be learned and practiced with the magickal arts, especially when attempting to contact, through The Ouija Board, The Highest Realms of the Universal Cosmic Consciousness.
V.K. Roberts explains the greatest difficulty that we need to overcome is to look beyond our prejudices and use the power and magick in our lives. Most importantly, helping us to understand and cope with our greatest enemy: Our own paralysing fear. Fear exist to protect us; without fear, we would get ourselves into embarrassing, time-wasting, and often dangerous situations. However, when we let our fears control us, we find ourselves in a perilous situation. It would take too long to list all of the things that we allow ourselves to fear to the point of limiting our own enjoyment in our lives.
V.K. Roberts has revealed and written a great book on a taboo subject. Thanks Virginia for your constant guidance and for being a friend.

What a great book! I am so very glad that I happened upon it. I had been surfing the internet on ouija board experiences and was discouraged by all of the negativity surrounding the board. I really was lucky to come across Virginia Roberts book and ordered it immidiately! This book is filled with knowledge and guidance from a woman who has plenty of experience in this field. I was pleased to read positive experiences regarding the board and was confident enough after reading this book to venture into it myself. I couldn't be more pleased. My mindset and attitude make for such terrific readings, and all of this I learned from this book. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and mine is that Mr. Fisher just doesn't get it! I just want to affirm that like the book says, the Ouija board is a very powerful occultic device. I've seen it's power first hand, and have talked to a few others that have had even wilder experiences than I have with the Ouija board. As a Christian I firmly believe in demons, and the Ouija board is one great way to see their power. Will everyone witness demonic power with the Ouija? No. The demonic realm doesn't work like that, the devil is much more crafty than to show himself to loser skeptics such as many of those that have written posts here. Those same skeptics will also be in for a terrible shock when they meet God on Judgment day. Oh well, I'm sure they were warned.

I love reading stories written by the deluded who claim the Ouija board has real powers. The Ouija board is mass-produced and sold by Milton Bradley. I also really enjoy the correlation between belief in the Ouija board and terrible grammar... gems like, "Donot mok the Oija one tim I did and now their are warts on my leg. also my tiolet is stoped up. Be ware."

Folks... I am a proud owner of this book. When I was with my neice in a bookstore looking for info about witches, this book flew off the shelf and landed right in front of where we were sitting in the isle. I kid you not. After reading this book, we decided to buy a cheap parker brothers version at the toystore. (Its a toy, right?).
Anyways, we've spoken to so many different spirits and seen so many strange, unbelievable things in our lives now that we have but one choice... we believe in Ouija boards and the ability to contact the afterlife.

this book tells from an unbiased viewpoint the history of the ouija board it is very frightning when u hear the modern storys and i know the dangers of the board i used 1 nothing happened then a week later my shoes flipped over before my eyes and other bad things so i got rid of it i agree with another reviewer when you contact spirits youre contacting demons because the bible says the dead are in heaven or hell and cant be contacted this book tells how even if you dont believe in religion the board seemed to answer angrily when speaking of christ when they tested it be warned the ouija board isnt a toy and it scares me they market it as 1

A great book to have in your collection. This is more than A.C. and the Ouija. This small book packs a big punch as it gives out an overview of Spirit communication in Western occultism. It has lots of delicious tidbits about the Ouija board and leaves a trail of landmarks to where more info is stashed in the occult community.
Relatively little-known Crowley divination is illuminated.......2006-12-16
While the title sounds like a mystery novel or a "Made for TV Movie", the book is a dynamic powerhouse of this previously neglected part of Crowley's life. It details not only his personal use of the talking board, but also his willingness to teach responsible people how to use it with great effect and safety.
The book is written by, and largely for ceremonial magicians by Red Flame member, J. Edward Cornelius. While it is helpful for traditions outside of the OTO, it is tailored to be used in that magickal context and it's traditional methods. It is not an exposure of their practices, but rather how to plug that into traditions of the Golden Dawn, OTO, Gnostic Catholic Church, et al..it is not a book for conspiracy theorists!
The books one fault is that it takes a patronizing approach to Wicca and witchcraft throughout its contents. But by letting that go, it does give a very useful approach to using the board for spirit commincation, and makes clear the potential for harm that comes with the board. I highly reccomend it for Crowley fans, divination enthusist, and the witch and magician at large.

It is appropriate that an important contribution to occult literature is to be found in a slim volume with an unassuming and quirky title.
The author presents sufficient theory and practice that will allow even a neophyte to access in a reasonably safe and suprisingly convenient manner the astral realms. Quite an accomplishment. But this is by no means only a book for beginners. Advanced practitioners (assuming they have an open mind) will find a great deal to ponder and benefit from in this volume. Anyone serious about magickal practice or even just magickal theory should acquire this book and consider its contents carefully. They will be well repaid for their efforts.
Aleister Crowley was the baddest of bad boys. He made great advancements in the magickal realm while sending shock waves through the clubby and largely ineffectual grade system of traditional occult fraternities, It is no small irony that the magickal orders that profess to be Thelemic are as full of pretentious poseurs as those that Crowley blasted with his extraordinary talent and application. I suspect that his book will not be well liked by those in authority in Crowleyian magickal orders. The author reveals too many secrets for comfort. I believe Crowley would have approved of this book that captures the spirit of authentic Thelemic magickal theory and practice.

If your interest is strictly in the Ouija Board itself, the 1st 2 chapters will give you the history of the Board, the Game and it's media press. But this book is really about applying consistent control in all forms of divination to focus the type of Spirit called. Rather than repeat well worn (and well published) truisms, the author seems to have concentrated on what Aleister Crowley and his disciples actually DID, whether it was thru Tarot, Astrology, Ceremonial Magick or Enochian. Lighten up -- it's just a game.
The pointer moves to letters in response to the players' conscious or subconsious need to see something interesting happen in the game. It's called the ideomotor effect. Ouija Board is simply a doorway to entertainment; no more "occult" than poker or tiddley-winks, a lot less insidious than television. This book is an opinion piece, and not a very well written one at that.
The TRUTH About the Ouija Board!!!!.......2005-05-30
First of all let me say that I respect all the personal views and opinions of using the Ouija Board but I must say that there are other Books written that describe a totally positive experience.The Board does operate from the Spirit World but that world is not full of DEMONS like many Religious people think because before we existed in Human form we all were a part of the the Spirit World in fact we are Spirits in Human Bodies when we die that Spirit leaves the body but it does not turn into a Demon.I am an experienced user of Tarot Cards,Numerology,Astrology and Ouija Boards and I have never had a NEGATIVE experience or contacted any DEMONS or been possesed.The information that I received was 100% accurate when using these Divination Tools the term Divination comes from other terms like Divinity an Divine Intervention which are used in the Bible and are not considered WRONG but it's funny how DIVINATION is when it involves spirit contact.Contacting Spirits is no more dangerous that walking out your front door if your intentions are BAD not clear or full of fear or inexperience than that's what you will bring upon yourself.If you know what your doing and TRULY understand the SUPERNATURAL and SPIRIT world then your experience will be POSITIVE like mine were.I was contacted by the Spirit of my son before he was born when me and my girlfriend at the time (which became my wife) were on the board with her mother.We were told that he would come into our life in 2yrs and the exact time and date was given.This happen in 1991 he was born in 1993 today he is a Healthy 12 yrd old that doesn't spit Green vomit or make his head spin around or look like Damien from the Omen.He even attends Church on occasion
I have also used Tarot Cards with great results in 1998 my cousin was pregnant but did not know who the father was between 2 possible men the cards revealed the Birth Sign of the Father which was accurate and also indicated that the Child would not be born.I assumed it meant the child would be still-born but what happen was she had an ABORTION.Others experience of NEGATIVITY or DEMONS is not the final TRUTH of what everyone else will experience just like we all don't respond to Medicine developed to cure certain diseases.Some are cured and some aren't some say a particular Drug works while others say it doesn't.This pretty much applies to many things in life some like it some don't some say it works some say it doesn't.Just because something went wrong for you does not mean this will happen to everyone.I know of a guy that actually WON the Lottery using the Ouija Board so I seriously doubt that any DEMONS would be so KIND as to give someone winning Lottery numbers.

Do a web search for the ideomotor effect and you will find plenty of REAL scientific evidence and not B-O-L-O-G-N-A. Like I said, you can ignore the science but to say there is not any science to this 'GAME' is folly.

The Ouija board is a silly parlor trick that operates on a clever psychological conceit: because two people who sit down to use the damn thing are not going to be satisfied if nothing happens, you can bet that, consciously or semiconsciously, one person is always going to "cheat", allowing the cursor to spell something out, with the complicity or perhaps the active help of the other participant. It is not an insidious occult invasion of our play-lives, any more than plucking flowers to find out if your sweetheart loves you, or playing with aluminum can-tabs to find out the first initial of your future spouse (hmm, different every time). Get a life.

My roomates use the Ouija all the time, frequently under the influence. It is in fact a false idol, a false god. This book tells the truth behind this strange creation, one so proposterous that one would laugh if ti was described to them but a game that seems to take many under its spell.

A leap in our past.......2005-09-06
I discovered this book through friends and relatives and found it gripping. My mother is about the same age as Michaelis and she went through the same (and shall I say ?) ordeals and difficulties. It was tough, to be sure, but there was also a sense of exhilaration and profound fraternity. Nobody can talk of WWII in Europe without reading such a book, in its terse, dry style with a tongue-in-cheek element.

A Must-Read for Anyone Interested in WWII Belgium Social Studies.......2005-08-31
Arlette Michaelis takes the reader into World War II Belgium, especially Brussels, with the ease and depth of knowledge only a survivor can accomplish. Her writing is simple and direct, which only adds to the authenticity of her life as a teenager before, during, and immediately after the German occupation of Belgium. The geographic references are accurate; this reader lives in Belgium and the city of Brussels and fields around it are seen in a different light after learning of the horrors Michaelis witnessed and experienced during this turning point in European history. Her family's activism exhibits a spirit of global community we all can emulate. We are all fortunate that Michaelis took the time and effort to put these words to paper in her lifetime.
Beyond The Ouija Board.......2005-08-25
Finally a story that captures attention. It's hard to believe that World War II could be treated with such optimism, but this book does it! It's uplifting and inspiring. It made me smile, laugh, and cry (a little)! I recommend this book to young readers as well as adult readers. Enjoy!

I was a sixth grade student of Mrs. Michaelis' and have re-told her stories from memory for 30 years. I have greatly enjoyed hearing again, her recollections, told as always, with characteristic wit and wisdom that remain important, relavent and riveting. My children are reading the book currently and it's given us an opportunity to discuss horrors that could only be made real by first hand accounting. The "greatest generation" soon will have left us and accounts such as Arlette's will become our permanent record of life during WWII.
