So easy to read, so well put together - I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get more out of life.

I personally did not care for this book and feel like I wasted my $.

4 out of 5 stars Not just the Power of Positive Thinking.......2007-10-05

I enjoyed and am still enjoying this book. I reread passages often. This is not just about the Power of Positive Thinking to get what you want specifically. It is a philosophy. Think good thoughts; review your daily events before you sleep; turn around negative events; give thanks for what you do have. People who abide by those ideas will automatically develop a more positive outlook which in turn makes people around them feel better. Like when you're on the road and someone wants to get in front of you, if you wave and let them go, you usually see someone behind you taking up the chain to do the same thing. It's contagious and right-thinking. An EXCELLENT book with great thoughts of many contemporary philosophers and motivational speakers.

Many lives by it. Millions are reading it. The latest self help book claims we can change our lives by thinking. But this 'new thought' may just be another new version of NLP and the power of the subconscious. No matter what, it doesn't hurt to read and apply since all of it is positive. Gave many of it as gifts and even recommending it for my meirc trainees in dubai.

5 out of 5 stars The Only Self Help Book You Will Ever Need.......2007-10-03

I can see why some people wouldn't like this book. Rhonda Byrnes and the other contributers present the ideas so simply that its hard to swallow at first. You think it should be more complicated. But if you can get past that the ideas here are really true. Even more importantly, this is a self help book that really helps. Most books like this leave you feeling okay or hopeful after reading them but this is one you can actually test right after you read it. I did test it and I have already seen results. I know it sounds crazy but it works. Why fight it?

4 out of 5 stars LoA - A Basic Understanding for Beginners.......2007-10-02

I enjoyed this book very much. If you are new to the Law of Attraction it is a great place to start. Especially if you want to teach it to children, the final chapter has some great ideas for sharing the LoA with children in an easy to understand manner. If you are already familiar with "The Secret" you probably won't learn anything new in this book. It is very basic.

1 out of 5 stars Dragged down..........2007-09-28

I still can't believe that you dragged me all the way down there to give me that XXXXXXX! Of all the things that you could have done that was indeed the STUPIDEST thing! STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID...

5 out of 5 stars Clear, concise explanation of the concept.......2007-09-27

Much has been written lately about the law of attraction . . . however,
LAW OF ATTRACTION by Michael J.
Losier explains the concept in a clear, concise fashion that is as good
as anything else I've seen.

Losier, naturally, presents a definition of the law of attraction; i.e., I
attract my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether
positive or negative . . . he then reveals a three-step program to take
the law and apply it to your life immediately, using examples involving
such everyday situations as finding an ideal mate and increasing
your personal wealth.

I particularly liked the tools he gave for allowing (the absence of negative
vibration) . . . one of my favorites was to use the expression "lots
can happen" whenever you notice a lack of results . . . consider
whether this could happen in the next few days, the next week or
in the next 30 days . . . the answer is almost always "yes."

Losier also encourages his readers to always say "yes" to money . . . for
example, he notes:

A lot of people feel challenged to say yes when someone offers
to pay for their lunch or buy them a gift or wants to simply
give them money. Many people when offered to have their
lunch paid for respond with "No that's okay, you don't need
to do that," or "Oh no, I'll pay for my own. You don't have to buy
me lunch," or "Oh no, I couldn't!" Does this sound like you or
someone you know?

In all of these statements you can hear resistance to receiving
money. The new you, however, will learn to say "Thanks, I would
like that," and you'll start to feel good about it. You may experience
discomfort at first but as you continue to say yes, it will get
easier and you will feel your resistance fading away. This in turn
opens up your allowing for more money.

So if anybody reading this wants to spring for my lunch
or even dinner (hint-hint), I accept.

LAW OF ATTRACTION concludes with an excellent section
on how parents and teachers can share the concept with
children . . . what a marvelous idea!

4 out of 5 stars Law of Attraction.......2007-09-27

For people new to the concept of the Law Of Attraction (they are probably getting fewer and fewer in these days of "The Secret"): The basic idea behind this concept is that human beings (unconsciously) attract more of the same that they think and talk about, whether good or bad. The Law ignores if you think of it in the negated form (e.g. even if you think "I don't want more debt", the Law filters out "debt", and you will get more debt).

Now, if you believe in this concept, this book will be a great assistant in helping you focussing on the positive things you want to attract, and offerering suggestions how to rephrase negative thoughts into positive. Michael first introduces a simple 3 step plan to get you going. For each of the steps he offers several different tools to put the ideas into practice. Different tools are good, since they may appeal differently to varying reader types. He includes many "work sheets" (not much more than simple tables) to help with the preparation and the process itself.

As a conclusion, Michael ends with a few special tips on attracting abundance, good relationships, and how to teach the concept to children.

This is a pretty short book about one concrete topic. I feel Michael did a good job in filtering out all the mumbo-jumbo behind a simple concept and present it in an easy to understand form with clear guidelines how to apply it effectively.

I am rating Michael's book, not the Law Of Attraction. Whether you want to believe in that you have to decide for yourself :-)

Book Description

What would you do if you were sitting quietly in your living room when a mysterious couple appeared from out of nowhere - and then told you they were "ascended masters" who had come to reveal some shocking secrets of existence and teach you the miraculous powers of advanced forgiveness? Would you call the cops? Call a psychiatrist? Call out for pizza?

When two such teachers appeared before Gary Renard in 1992, he chose to listen to them (and ask a lot of impertinent questions). The result is this startling book: an extraordinary record of 17 mind-bending conversations that took place over nearly a decade, reorienting the author's life and giving the world an uncompromising introduction to a spiritual teaching destined to change human history.

5 out of 5 stars This book has the power to change the world!.......2007-10-03

I am recommending this book whenever and wherever I have the chance to. I suffered all my life from a traumatic and tragic childhood until I read this book and began practicing true forgiveness. Mr.Renard's teachings showed me a new way to view this world and a new way to forgive. My life is forever changed. If I can heal from sexual assault, deaths, and a lifetime of suicidal depression than so can others. This book has the power to change the world, one life at a time.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone must read this book!.......2007-10-01

This is a life changing book. A must read by everyone. I loved it.

5 out of 5 stars Interested in A Course in Miracles?.......2007-10-01

Disappearance of the Universe has captured the interest not only of those that are new or unfamiliar with A Course in Miracles, but also by the vast majority of us that have been studying the Course for years.

The principles of the Course are presented in an easy-to-understand format, his premise involving conversations with Arten & Pursah, two ascended masters who appeared to him in his living room. Whether or not the reader believes in the appearance of these two is secondary, in my opinion, to the spiritual truths revealed in his book.

Disappearance of the Universe is not only introducing thousands to A Course in Miracles, it is also re energizing many long-time students of the Course with a fresh perspective and newfound zeal with which to continue their studies. Though a later book has been written and published by the author, if you're curious about or interested in knowing more about A Course in Miracles, this is the book to read.

Thanks for the great book, Gary!

5 out of 5 stars a fascinating, reviting read!.......2007-09-30

I loved this book. It was very exciting. What an awesome experience (some would find it terrifing) to be visited by 2 spirits in physical form. I had been struggling to read A Course In Miracles and this book made that book more understandable, more relevant. I recommend everyone read this book before ACIM. The wisdom that is shared with us through his visitors is priceless. It was awesome to watching Gary change and grow over the course of their visits... With their insight and his determination to implement the studies of ACIM. It made me realize how important our lives are...and gave me a real sense of "what it is all about". His book also helped me to be prepared and even delight in the changes that ACIM brings to you. Thanks Gary! I am looking forward to reading more of your books!

5 out of 5 stars Didn't want it to end...........2007-09-25

From the first paragraph to the end of 400+ pages, I was spellbound. Then I picked up a book ("The Dynamic Laws of Healing") I had just received from Amazon and started reading about disease being caused by lack of forgiveness. That was quite a coincidence, being the operative word in "The Disappearance of the Universe" and also being by Catherine Ponder of Unity Religion. These two thought systems overlap, even though different, as described in Renard's book. "The Dynamic Laws of Healing" is a gentle massage compared to the kick in the seat of the ACIM book. Both are priceless in my mind.

I was a flunkee of ACIM, along with many others in a large study group, and "Universe" has been a stimulator to the point that I want to know everything now, and am venturing into Renard's other books, along with those of Ken Wapnick. To calm you down after reading this nonfiction thriller, I certainly do recommend Catherine Ponder's books also. The two opposites tie together in a fascinating manner.

Book Description

This is Jurgen Habermas's most concrete historical-sociological book and one of the key contributions to political thought in the postwar period. It will be a revelation to those who have known Habermas only through his theoretical writing to find his later interests in problems of legitimation and communication foreshadowed in this lucid study of the origins, nature, and evolution of public opinion in democratic societies.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Indispensable for Understanding Contemporary Culture.......2007-08-10

Okay, perhaps I've got the social-theory-geek gene, but when I first read this book some fourteen years ago (during grad school), I was able finally to put together a lot of things that had been swimming around in my brain. I'd already read a good bit of Adorno before a professor (with whom I was doing an independent study on Adorno) recommended that I read this. Habermas's historical analysis was so compelling that I simply couldn't put the book down. Moreover (all this may seem hard to believe), the lucidity of his presentation also helped me put a lot of what was going on in Adorno's writings in a clearer light.

While I don't agree with the directions in which Habermas later went--I strongly resist the notion of recuperating the modern project--this book provides a compelling analysis of how Western society and culture got to where it is now.

4 out of 5 stars Habermas: The Public in History.......2005-09-17

In this monograph, Habermas tracks the origination, the evolution, and the dispersal of an informed "public sphere" among democratic Western nations. He defines public sphere as "private people com[ing] together as a public" (27). Once these individuals, gathered as reading groups or as aficionados of theatre, the arts, and politics, the individuals melded into a public capable of debating the government. Habermas locates these fledgling "publics" primarily in eighteenth-century France, England and to a lesser extent in the areas of Europe designated as German. Tellingly, Habermas strongly links the formation of the public sphere with the rise of capitalism and a continuing bourgeois revolution. Comprised of literate individuals governed by the principals of the Enlightenment, these "publics" eventually challenged the validity and legitimacy of governments, most notably in France during the French Revolution and England during the English Civil War.

Habermas builds a compelling argument based upon his interpretation of Rousseau, Kant, Locke, Hegel, and Marx. He links the works of these philosophers and sociologists in a credible chain stretching back to the eighteenth century. However, he only deals thoroughly with the educated, propertied elite of society. Habermas views the "unpropertied" and illiterate as a separate from and incapable of participating in a true public sphere. To do this he must dismiss a plethora of lower class uprisings found throughout the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. Even when the various governments quickly quashed these rebellions, the Ludites in England and the various rebellions of 1848 come to mind, it is difficult to dispute the effect these rebels and rebellions had upon the public discourse. As an early work on the subject, it is almost certain that Habermas had to amend his arguments following E.P. Thompson's The Making of the English Working Class, published in 1963 a scant year after this work. His exclusion of the great press of society from a functioning public sphere seems arrogant at best and naïve at worst.

5 out of 5 stars One of the most influential studies on the subject.......2004-11-01

Habermas' work, though written more than four decades ago, still retains most of its original relevance for the study of the public sphere. If you are interested in this subject, and if you are into critical thinking, then this book is certainly worth reading. Why? Well, if you take in consideration the fact that no other book has been written so far on the subject that has been able to surpass Habermas' account both in depth and originality, then you begin to get my point. As to a critical reading of the argument put forth by Habermas, one should read "Habermas and the Public Sphere", edited by Craig Calhoun. This book includes an appendix by Habermas where he revises some of his original positions.

4 out of 5 stars The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere.......2002-04-04

When you talk about the public sphere in front of intellectuals, Jürgen Habermas's name is bound to come up. Habermas's 1962 study, "The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere," examines the creation, brief flourishing, and demise of a public sphere based in rational-critical debate and discussion. The feasibility of a true public sphere, which is inclusive of anyone who would participate, is for Habermas of utmost importance. Habermas follows a methodology similar to the one Michel Foucault takes in "Discipline and Punish," which analyzes the abolition of public displays of power, and the process by which the structures of power are inculcated in the individual from the 17th through the 20th centuries. Habermas analyzes historical, economic, and political conditions from classical antiquity through his own historical moment, tracing the circumstances in which the public sphere arises, how it functions, and ceases to function over time.

Habermas begins with a delineation of the terms 'public' and 'private,' orienting them philologically from their roots and meanings in classical antiquity. From here, he traces the adoption of the words and their synonyms into the European Middle Ages and the era of feudalism. Habermas says that in this period, the feudal lord and the monarch, for whom `representative publicness' functioned as a display of power before their subjects, dominated the public. Authority figures embodied virtues and powers in a public fashion. Public representation of political and economic power continued, unabated until the Reformation, at which time, the privatization of religious faith signaled a separation between society and the state. Economically, in the 16th and 17th centuries, the spread of trade necessitated the spread of news from various locales. As news outside of the home became relevant to home economy, the private individual begins to take an interest in public events. Consolidation of 'national' financial administration and state-controlled taxation, along with the rise of print culture, facilitated the dissemination of news, initially in the form of governmental decrees, market conditions, and happenings at court. Through this, the actions of the authorities came under the scrutiny of a reading public.

The 18th century is the key moment for Habermas. In this period, the government, along with private individuals, made use of the press, for the first time, in persuasive appeal to a public made up of private people. The press now presented the public with information, with which they were to use reason and discussion to determine what was in the public's interest. Habermas emphasizes the theoretical parity that this brings about - the rise of the coffee houses and salons, in which merchants met with gentility and engaged in rational-critical debate over issues of public import. Stretching this into the realm of the franchise, Habermas is careful to point out the problematics of a situation in which actual decision-making was restricted to those with money and land, but stresses that the opportunity for anyone to acquire these prerequisites was, again, theoretically, open to all.

For a brief time during the 18th century, Habermas sees the flourishing of a public sphere, born out of a reading public, that began to interact with the processes of public policy, legally, and morally. The purpose of this public sphere, according to Habermas, is to eliminate the domination of authoritative power, and establishing a government that is actually representative of the public will and contingent upon public opinion. Unfortunately, in the 19th century, with the stratification of party politics, the proliferating press encouraged less rational-critical discussion. Increasingly, debate moved into parliamentary circles, and the public was asked only to approve of party measures, not participate in the formation of the rules that governed them. In the 20th century, along with the creation of the welfare-state, consolidation of moneyed interests, and the expansion of universal suffrage (ironically), the public sphere disintegrated even further. New media - radio, television, etc. - turned its addresses to the public into mere advertising. Even the illusion of a private people engaged, as a public, in matters of their own governance, was gone, and the public became vessels for mass media.

To recuperate a true participatory public sphere, Habermas takes a guarded approach. He indicates that some kind of elite could be formed. These private individuals would undertake the responsibility of rational-critical debate, determining the public interest. The general public, then, would give their approval or disapproval to the measures decided on by this elite. This is kind of a bleak outlook, and one I don't much care for myself. Of course, this is a horribly limited review of Habermas's "Structural Transformation". I haven't even noted the break he takes to outline the historical-philosophical evaluation and critique of the public sphere by Kant, Hegel, Marx, Mill, and Tocqueville. Nor did I note the extensive use Habermas makes of political and economic changes in his key nations - England, France, and Germany - and the contributions these make to the disintegration of the public sphere. At any rate, "Structural Transformation" is an exhaustive (and exhausting) study, as relevant now to the study of literature, economics, government, history, etc., especially of the last three centuries, as it ever was. Even though it is a pain to read, you'll be glad you finally read it. Think of it as theoretical medicine - it may not taste good, but in the long run, it's good for you.

3 out of 5 stars Habermas puts me to sleep.......2000-07-23

... This is Habermas' dissertation, but his writing is so poor, in English or in German, that it really doesn' matter. The book is a response, in my opinion, to Carl Schmitt, and specifically to Schmitt's argument that the core of liberal democracy is debate in parliament, that liberal democracy is rule by discussion (or, as its called now, "political discourse"), but that that discussion is now more real than painted flames on a radiator. Liberal democracy is in fact the triumph of aliberal, private, hidden powers, who rule from the shadows and through the true organs of power, the media, and through the hidden power of the private vote cast in the illicit privacy of the voting booth, where the bourgeois individual is free to exercise his worst prejudices and basest motives. So argues Schmitt. Habermas gives an interesting historical account of the rise of "Offentlichkeit" (which translates into the all-too-easy abstraction "public sphere," whatever that is), from the letters passed in the mail relating the news from town to town, to French salons, to newspapers, to television and radio. Habermas, like Schmitt, seeks to unmask the illiberal powers lurking behind the good liberal prejudices, but he, like Schmitt, mistakes liberalism for a debating society when in fact it is much more sophisticated than that. Habermas needs to read the Federalist Papers and the debates (!) at the constitutional convention to understand how little the founders of one liberal democracy thought of the power of discussion.

Book Description

Human beings are selfish, small-minded, violence-prone savages, civilization is a blight on the earth, and the rising tide of chaos ensures that everything's going to fall apart any day now. Right? Wrong, says Rob Brezsny. In Pronoia Is the Antidote to Paranoia, he declares evil is boring, the universe is friendly, and life is a sublime gift created for our amusement and illumination. This buoyant perspective is not rooted in denial. On the contrary, Brezsny builds a case for a "cagey optimism" that does not require a repression of difficulty, but rather, seeks a vigorous engagement with it. The best way to attract the blessings that the world is conspiring to give us, he insists, is to dive into the most challenging mysteries. This witty, inspiring how-to shows how any reader can become "a wildly disciplined, fiercely tender . . . lustfully compassionate Master of Rowdy Bliss."

This is my favorite book, at the moment, to have by my bed and read a random page or two every night. I've always enjoyed reading his horoscopes, and I look forward to them mainly for his unique and fun information and personality. This book is chock-full of that.
It's a real comfort-book to savor like fine wine or dark chocolate, (with no calories!) after a long day.
Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars To Have and to Give: giddy, hilarious, inspiring and fun.......2007-06-01

This morning I read an excerpt from Rob's book called "Glory in the Highest." It so moved me that I felt inspired to write this as a gratitude gift to him. A client gave the book to me several months ago. It has been a constant joy to me. I love everything about it. The cover pleases me. The title makes me smile. And the contents are tasty treats for the mind, the heart and whatever internal organ is in charge of laughing.

I just had several of my organs removed and spent almost a week on my back. I waited for for a phone call from the doctor with the results of a patholgy report. And dreamed the report I wanted into being. As my sweetheart so often says, "Never surrender your power to the menu" (and yes, thank you, it was great outcome!).

What helped me find the strongest place to do this from? Walking outside. I felt the intense rush of nature, all of it sun, grass, sky, energy from the earth, the trees. Living things, Life itself. The sheer and utter pleasure of LIFE.

The passage in "Pronoia," called "Glory in the Highest" so perfectly reflects the feeling I experienced and the way I still feel...a heady yet grounded blend of gratitude, amusement, enthusiasm, wonder, joy, appreciation and empathy for the poignancy of our adventure trips on planet Us as we learn to be kind and gentle to ourselves, to accept who we are and just be full-tilt humans, in all our wonderful weirdness.

I recommend his book in my hypnosis and coaching practice and to my friends. I thank him for the Divinely on-target and hilarious inspiration in "Pronoia," a light yet deeply satisfying souflee of short, easily accessed pieces blended together in a yummy concoction. Perfect for bedtime reading or refreshing moments throughout the day. Nutty, insightful, gorgeous and lots of fun. Great gift book for yourself or someone you love.

5 out of 5 stars Some of the drops do sparkle!.......2007-05-29

As part of a valiant effort to shake Luddite tendencies, and despite a Credit Card perilously close to being maxed-out, I pressed the buttons to order 'PRONOIA' with the humble intent of making a silent gesture to thank Rob Brezsney for his Free Will Astrology. 'The least I can do is up this guy's sales - even if only by one - to thank him for his freely-shared gift and balance the cosmic scales a bit', thought I! Wrong! Wonderfully wrong! This book is such a rich cornucopia of wild and wondrous Truth - I feel like I'm now even further on the back-foot in this undeclared war - i.e. I'm even further challenged to yet out-bless Mr. Brezsney! Please buy this book to remind yourself of who you really already are! Effortless joy awaits, I promise! I also can't believe the incredibly low cost for a book this rich and voluminous, with every page a life-enriching treasure. And this mere token cost included shipping from half across the world! This book is simply the greatest gift in the whole world to give a friend or loved one, not only because it will look like you've spent a fortune on them, but more importantly because there's no way they won't LOVE it! How do I know this? Because I know there's a part of each of us that longs to simply let go of false-knowledge! The rewards are instant and ecstatically joyful. More than a necessary antidote - it's such a tonic! Brezsney you legend! I WILL get you back! Meanwhile, thanks to you too, good folk at Amazon, for such courteous and speedy service. Best buttons I've ever pressed! '... just a drop in the great blue motion of the sunlit sea ... but some of the drops sparkle ... Some of them DO sparkle'! (T.H. White)

5 out of 5 stars Maybe We Could Just Be Happy.......2007-05-10

What a childish thought: just be happy! Yes, it is, and that is just the point. Few have considered the thought that life may be hard only because we have not really entertained the thought that it could be easy. Even Jesus recognized that we must become like children to enter God's Kingdom. That means childlike, not childish. And what is more childlike than the joyful perception that the universe is fundamentally friendly. If we get the God/world/life we believe in (and quantum research is proving that we do) then why not let a dose of Pronoia help you drop the cynicism and create something beautiful? If you are determined to remain a proud alumni of the "no pain, no gain" school of hard knocks, this is not the book for you. But if you would like to see the world from a fresh perspective, and have fun doing it, buy the book, relax, laugh and turn your world upside down.

5 out of 5 stars Pronoia; The Antidote For Paranoia.......2007-05-06

The Best book I've ever purchased. Rob Brezsny and The Beauty and Truth Laboratory is entirely infused with anti-cynicism. The truths they have researched and reported in these pages validate what I've always known and give me so much more insight into a way of transforming myself into the person I believe The Universe intends for me to be. It is Buddist in nature, very eastern in its philosophy, and so much more. There are quotes, notes and facts to back every word.

5 out of 5 stars There Is A Cheaper Way.......2006-04-06

I love this book. I have a copy and have read it twice. I have thought about selling it, since the price for it is so high but I just can't bring myself to do it. Even if I were to sell it for $2,000.00, I would feel that I didn't charge enough. The money would soon be spent and then I wouldn't have this book. However, there may be a cheaper way for one to purchase the information contained in this book. Basically, Hale Dwoskin has taken the content from this book and placed it in the five (5) books: "Happiness Is Free and it is easier than you think", series. So, while this book is excellent and I won't part with mine, one can still receive the information contained in it from these other books. In fact, Hale has added some of his own releasing techniques in these other books, so they are even better. So, if you are lucky enough to purchase a copy of "Keys", good for you, but if you can't, you can get the same information a cheaper way: "Happiness Is Free" five (5) book set.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books one could possibly read!.......2005-08-04

The keyes book is the most amazing book and truly worthwhile. However it is out of print and much too expensive for most people. I highly recomend Lester's book the Ultimate Truth Book which is very inexpensive and just as good and in some ways even better. I also recomend Lesters Abundance course...

5 out of 5 stars A Pure Privilege To Review This Wonderful Book.......2000-04-26

My own copy of this great and moving book is worn out and dog-eared from constant re-reading. It is the most profound and important book I have ever read. Lester Levenson's words point us in the right direction to find real freedom. They come from his own direct experience and the reader is encouraged to prove things to him or herself and accept nothing on faith. For anyone who has put off their quest for truth, for happiness with no sorrow, for our real purpose, this book can put them back on the path and take them all the way to their true self. Lester was a fully realized being, and a great teacher. The work he started at the Sedona Institute has shown thousands the benefits of Releasing™ uncomfortable thoughts and feelings using the "Sedona Method". This beautiful book is full of the love that Lester was.

Book Description

Inspirational essays on thought and consciousness.

Download Description

Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought. Sickly thoughts will express themselves through a sickly body. Thoughts of fear have been known to kill a man as speedily as a bullet and they are continually killing thousands of people just as surely though less rapidly. The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it. Anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body, and lays it open to the entrance of disease; while impure thoughts, even if not physically indulged, will sooner shatter the nervous system.

2 out of 5 stars One powerful message.......2007-08-23

I felt that the book had a powerful message and it was quite inspiring. Having first read Covey's Seven Habits this book reinforced the paradigm shift to being my own life's creator.

I however, did not agree with Allens opinions about sickness and health. How can he claim that sickness would grow out of an impure mind? It's absurd.

5 out of 5 stars Very very very good book .......2007-08-03

No one realizes how much affect that their thoughts can have upon their entire life. This book shows the direct connection between how you think and what happens in your life. Allen lays out the idea that when you are thinking about something repeatedly, it will lead to an action. This action leads to a new habit and the new habit to a new character. In the big picture, your thoughts make you who you are. That is why you need to change the way that you think about things. It can turn your life around!

5 out of 5 stars You Don't Need to Read Any Other Self Help Book!.......2007-07-31

I have one of the most extensive libraries of self help, psychology and self-improvement material on this planet. And I continue to read more each day.

I just finished a copy of As A Man Thinketh given to me by a friend. I never read it before, even though it is the original self help book. After reading it I can only say that if you only read this book, you have all you need.

5 out of 5 stars An annual "must read".......2007-07-16

I bought 5 of these little books because I wanted to share them with friends. This is a book I am going to read once a year for the rest of my life and I hope as my children get older they will see the value in it too. It helps to put your head in the right place - awesome book, I loved it.

Book Description

The model of the traditional family is breaking down, children barely into their teens are experimenting with sex, and half of all marriages in developed countries end in divorce. In Love, Freedom, and Aloneness Osho explains why these phenomena are happening and how they can actually be viewed as a cause for celebration rather than worry. In a post-ideological world, where all the old moralities are clearly out of date, we have a golden opportunity to redefine and revitalize the very foundations of our lives.iterally starting fresh with ourselves and our relationships to others, and defining fulfillment and success for the individual and for society means understanding the new realities of our basic condition. Until we learn to live by ourselves and withourselves, we will deny ourselves the possibility of finding love and happiness with someone else. This book is a provocation and a guide for that fresh start.

5 out of 5 stars Osho is great for 3.5 reasons.......2007-03-26

I love OSHO. Yes, he is a very smart, interesting, and well-spoken guru. Let's all rejoice that he wrote so many books.

Here are the 3.5 reasons why OSHO rules and you should really get this book.

1. Osho is funny. He'll have you cracking up as you learn about how to be a master in bed or how to be less needy.

2. Osho reminds us that the Universe is naturally nice and wants us to be happy. Wow, that's so simple by easy to forget.

3. Osho gets us to do something instead of just think about it. Do something and learn how it feels. That's true learning.

3.5 Osho teahces us that it's beautiful to be alone. So enjoy it!

5 out of 5 stars Read This and be FREE.......2007-01-05

This book is now my "the one book I'll ever need".
Osho does NOT try to convert you. Pah! He invites you to know yourself and be free and this book has totally redefined my old, sick ideas about love. My beloved and I are happier now than ever.. truly... open your mind and sprout two wings-"aloneness and love" ; ) I'd love to have cases of these and walk around tossing them to strangers., friends, neighbors, lovers and YOU.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for healthy relationships.......2006-08-15

This book describes and educates what a healthy long term love relationship looks and feels like. Many people do not have any idea. Instead of wanting a relationship out of "neediness" people can experience a "fullness to share."

5 out of 5 stars Hopeless romantic? Try not to read this book.............2006-02-17

I haven't finished reading this book (3/4 of the way), but i decided to give back to the community that has assisted me so much with my choice of books..... that and Amazon have a new 'bullying' system of getting reviews out of customers. Anyway, this book is really an eye opener. All the ideas of love that i got from books, films and even my parents now seem so silly and strange- like, where did they get them from? Osho explores what the general public see as love (romantic love), and another love that gives the impression of being a religious love at the get-go (i say that because i've always seen 'unconditional love' as something for the saints and celibates only), but is actually the most important love that we actually need in our lives. A selfish love that is actually unselfish. I wonder how relationships would be if we all possessed this type of love for ourselves..... would we even waste our time on relationships? Probably, not if they're the type that bring attachment. Osho discusses why most relationships and marriages are doomed from the beginning. "Let there be spaces in your togetherness"- very deep quote. He does not bring an authoritarian tone to any aspect of love; all he wants us to have is understanding..... understand the laws of existence and then do what you want.

His views on sex are amazing, just like his views on religion. I suspect both views were responisble for most of the controversy surrounding him- Increase sexual freedom while reducing religion (especially Christianity)? I think Bush and a few teleevangelists would probably not think twice about killing him on live tv if they got the chance. But he's dead so they can't. And his words live on.........

I'm probably a poor reviewer, but do not let that stop you from reading this book, if you ever wondered if there is more to love, or if you want understanding on why people still risk all for love even though it never seems to last (with one partner)
this is definitely the book for you. Just remember to soak everything in before putting on your worn out rationalization cap. Logic is not everything.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful period now begins of your reading and seeking........2004-01-16

If you are new to Osho then you are in for the most beautiful period of your reading and seeking. Although this seems a bold statement, I feel it is understated. In this one book one will learn a lifestyle that is natural and flowing. There are no rules, no golden gems of a 10 point plan. What you get is how to balance a lifestyle of meditation and love. The polarities. Aloneness and relationships. To seemlessly dance between the two. The style is very flowing like a conversation. This is no accident. The book is put together from talks that Osho has given. Some 5000 hours of recordings have been taken. If you loved Eckhart Tolle's the power of now and wish for more reading of that quality, you will find Osho books equally as good. I've read the full 6 books of the insight series. All are brilliant. I recommend Sex matters highly as well. Osho Zen and Osho Tao are also brilliant. However, if I was asked to recommend one essential book for someone new to Osho it would be Love, Freedom and Aloneness. It's hard to really review Osho because you are not quite sure what's really going on. Just by reading you feel something is happening. That something is a resounding "A-ha" to it. I've read carlos Castaneda all of them, I've read most of Stuart Wilde's books which I thought could not be surpassed yet Osho has done this with ease. With Osho there is no fighting within. You start with were you are and remove things very gently. He loves to bring a gentleness to the way you treat life and especially yourself. I've never thought of brushing teeth violently. However, when you compare that to brushing teeth gently, you begin to understand how you treat yourself. A small violence, but still it is there. Osho takes you on a journey of Man, politics and religion, he unravels the contradictions and the subtle cunning under-current of our politicians and religious leaders. He cannot unravel the mystery of life, he embraces the mystery and uncertainty. What I have noticed when reading is the fluidity of the words, sentences and chapters. You know that there is no-one there. Osho stepped aside many years ago. The words are straight from the great unknown, without filters, pure and brilliant. He was a truely brilliant, intelligent man and yet highly evolved in his spirituality or religiousness[not in the sense that we normally associate with this word. Uncluttered with religious dogma.] as he liked to often use. Once you read his biography you will come to know why you perhaps have not heard much about this man. What he has to say in his books, if understood and applied, will make each person a tower of immortal strength that no force on earth will be able to control. That's why the man was banned from so many developed countries towards the end of his life. His words are all there to lead you to becoming enlightened without an intermediatory. This would be a state of such peace tranquility and blissfulness, that the thought of becoming enlightened doesn't scare me any more.

Book Description

The Edgar Cayce story is one of the most compelling in inspirational literature.  Over the course of forty years the Sleeping Prophet time and again closed his eyes, entered an altered state of consciousness, and spoke to the very heat and spirit of mankind on subjects such as health, healing, dreams, meditation, sexuality, and reincarnation.  His more than 14,000 readings are preserved at the Association for Research and Enlightenment.  And now, with the guidance of Edgar Cayce, we can learn how to mine our psychic strengths for happier and healthier lives. Here are the readings of The Sleeping Prophet, condensed and simplified--the wisdom to help us make the right decisions affecting all facets of our lives.  Cayce speaks out on:  The sources of psychic development, reincarnation, Karma and grace, dreams, meditation, prayer, personal health (including diet and exercises,) holistic healing, sexuality, spirituality, rejuvenation, religion, spiritual psychology, and much more.   Cayce offers us the keys to insight, enlightenment, and total fulfillment.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Simply astounding.......2007-01-24

While Edgar Cayce may indeed be "the sleeping prophet," Herbert Puryear is some type of angel himself in how he interprets Cayce's work. This book is so far beyond anything I've read in the spiritual/New Age realm that it needs to take its place in the pantheon of all-time great non-fiction works.

As others have noted, Puryear's tone is almost scientific, but don't fear boredom or confusion by my using that word. Each sentence is so loaded with such profound truths and wisdoms that very often, I could only read a few paragraphs before having to put it down in order to reflect on what I'd just read. Puryear is a genius, pure and simple, and it's his generosity of heart and spirit that gives the work a poignancy one finds in any great work of art. Believe me, it's that good.

This will have a permanent home on my bookshelf, and I'm sure that as I read it again and again, I'll discover buried truths I didn't see (or wasn't ready for) the first time around.

Seriously, I can't believe someone is out there who can write this well. Do yourself a favor and buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful journey of Self-Transformation.......2006-09-13

Having only ever heard the name edgar cayce, and not knowing, what person it belonged to, I was intrigued to find out with this mystical name was all about.

I was led on a journey I did not expect to take. It helped open my eyes to the interconnectedness of everything.

One major thing I liked about this book, is it's not written in a way that sounds like hokey spiritual, better your life crud....IT's written in a way that is almost scientific. The constant relation to the concious, subconcious, and the superconcious, allow you to contstruct relationships in your mind about everything this book goes into.

Well written, easy to read, and a great start at understanding the metaphysical...I highly recommend for anyone who has even the slightest interest in the metaphysical or spiritual realm, but has no idea where to start. This will give you the background KNOWLEDGE-not experiance-to continue discovering all there is out there.

5 out of 5 stars ONENESS.......2004-03-18

I've read many self-help books. One of my favorites was "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Steven Covey, which was great! But, "The Edgar Cayce Primer" takes the cake! Many self transformation books talk about how to deal with life situations on the physical plain, but very few books go back to the Source or the Root of all creation. This book is very repetitve on the subjects of "Oneness" and the first two most important Commandments, which I think, is a good thing because this book stresses these points showing the reader that this is the only way to self-fulfillment, coming out of living in darkness, loving yourself, spiritual strength. I could go on forever about how this book is changining and continually changes my life.

5 out of 5 stars This is it!.......2003-07-26

Edgar Cayce lovers this is the book which explains alot of what Edgar wanted us to learn. Clear and concise a beautiful little book, worth its weight in metaphysical gold!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2001-10-14

This is an excellent book. For those interested in Edgar Cayce and for those interested in Universal MInd, God , Spirituality...etc..A Very good starting place...and a Easy read.. One of my favorite books as well...
