5 out of 5 stars The best way to live through Resident Evil 4 .......2007-07-29

A friend introduced me to Resident Evil 4, and after several gruesome deaths during the course of the game I thought that maybe I should by the walk-through book. I first purchased one from a differant company, but found it to be unsatisfactory, and looked for and located a copy of this Bradygames version, which I have been extremely pleased with. The information and maps provided for game play are excellent, to the point where you can be totally prepared for what's around the next corner if you decide to read ahead, or you can just forge ahead, and then go back and read in the book where you messed up after you die, and do it better the next time. Some people might think it spoils the game to be prepared before hand, but it can easily make the game more enjoyable, and this walk-through definately makes it more so, if you decide to play that way. It's an excellent resource, and a definate must for any serious player.

5 out of 5 stars Great Guide - But do You Need It?.......2007-07-09

The Guide for RE4 is a beautifully rendered one, covering all the places things hide, all the ways to combine items, and how to get every detail out with regard to outfits and the oddity of "other" weapons. The first time you play it you could probably use this, too, but only if you want to make one run at the game and only if you need it to fast-forward all of the puzzles. The problem with this is that a guide is simply a guide and, in the end, RE4 is player-friendly enough that you won't need it. You might need to find out about what to beat to get something bizarre, but there are things in game that allow for everything else.

First, the merchants in the game are really useful and they sell maps that highlight out all the treasure. While this doesn't tell you how to combine everything, you can simply keep all your odd little items and try combining them until you manage a priceless artifact. Second, you can look at the guns and see how they "stat up" to figure out what you want. The guide give advice that works if you want to edge up from one weapon to the other, but some of the weapons are pretty playthings and their use is what makes the experience unique. Third, this is the friendliest game as far as enemies are concerned, and you should be able to beat anything with a little practice and a few lucky shots. The same can be said for the puzzles - none of them are really difficult and finding out stuff on your own makes you feel strong. Finally, just play through the minigames in the game, kick it up and beat the game more than once, and power up your weapons all the way and see what you end up with.

So, you really don't need a guide and maybe you know it. Still, if you have to have one because you just need it or if you are buying this for someone who you might think needs help, it thrives here. This book is sexy, too, and I was impressed by the quality of the maps and the excellent care taken by the designers of the walk-through. I am of the opinion that a walk-through is either (1) a compulsive need to get everything or (2) a way to even the playing field. If you need either one of those, this is a golden ticket out of Las Plaga land. If not, you know how to run and gun.
Regardless, try to run the game first! The play-through is exciting when you have no idea what to expect AND you are better than you think. I wish i could wink when saying this, too, and add "trust me" for good measure. Resident Evil 4

5 out of 5 stars this book is a MUST BUY.......2007-05-01

You can't do anything wrong in Resident Evil 4 as long as you have this guide. The maps show everything down to the ground texture, and the screenshots look like they are still on the TV. The guide covers playing strategies, characters, weapons, enemies, and just about anything else that has to do with the game. Resident Evil 4 is an extremely complex game at times, and this guide makes it a breeze. The only problem that I had was that the first few pages fell out, but the guide is better then any online walkthrough. BUY THIS BOOK!!!

5 out of 5 stars Good guide.......2007-03-10

Overall, this is a pretty good strategy guide. If you are just a "dabbler" in the gaming community it is a great tool. I probably would never have made it through the first 10 minutes w/o it!

4 out of 5 stars Good Buy for any RE fan........2007-08-06

Alright..so if you're a big RE fan then you should definitely buy this book. However, they just might make a Volume 2 that will include RE4. Soo..its up to you if you want to buy this book which does not include any info from RE4 or you could wait and hope they will make another volume. All in all, this is a great product. All the info from storylines to creatures is organized in a nice format.

5 out of 5 stars To My Beloved Umbrella...Our Love Was Brief but True.......2007-07-17

To everything meteoric rises there is first the summit of some nameless mountaintop that showcases a view that seems breaktaking, and then there is the revelation that the next stop will be the ground as you topple from your self-made throne. This happens to all sorts of things big and small throughout history, with neither the individual nor the industrial immune to the sting of inevitability. This book shows how this happened in the case of The Umbrella Corporation, with their genetic breakthroughs seemingly wondrous affairs until an accident let a monstrous genie out of a bottle that could neither contain it nor protect the people around it from its wrath and - boom - a whole city died a nightmarish death because of that. Still, that's only a little of what happened.

To get a feeling for what you're actually dealing with, you have to imagine the thing sleeping under the tombstone labeled 1960-1998. While many things are not clear about Umbrella's history, one thing is certain according to information obtained inside Umbrella's compound. In 19XX, the famous European aristocrats Ozwell E. Spencer, Edward Ashcroft, and James Marcus discovered a virus that prompted further research and promised them very lucrative returns. In early 1998 this all came crashing down because of the now-infamous incident with the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Unit and the things that they, and others, found. According to diaries found after-the-fact, the team was sent in to investigate horrific mutilations happening in the Arklay Mountains and the Raccoon Forest Area, and an accidental helicopter crash led them to encounter terrible thing after terrible thing only to find out that this was the beginning of something called the T-Virus. Along the way they learned research being done on live specimens, how leeches and viruses and a little reanimation had come together, how mad Marcus really was and how he had become something worse than human, and how terrible this would be for their beloved Raccoon City. Most of them didn't survive to tell tale of what had transpired there, either, but it didn't really make a difference. The virus, once thought to be contained, wasn't contained and had gone on a killing spree.

Following the Bravo Team, the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team circled the forests of the area in hopes of finding their comrades, but they instead encountered what the rest of Raccoon City would soon encounter.
The Undead.
This lead to the discovery of the Mansion and The Hive, the fact that tens of thousands of people would be exposed to a secret that had been beneath heir feet all along, and to the fact that monsters - the real kind - were being bred for pseudo-scientific purposes. And the rest of the story, although involving several more chapters in Raccoon City and one outside, eventually ends in a flash of light that erased both 100,000 people in the blink of an eye and a company on top of the proverbial world.
So, that's what you're dealing with.

Depending on how much you really feel drawn to the Resident Evil arch depends on how much you really need this book. If you find yourself curious about the story and wondering what transpire dint he games, then you could learn something from the book and you might find the read interesting. It really isn't meant for that, however, but is more for the person that finds themselves addicted to the game and all its vices and has probably put in the time to touch all these gaming moments by hand - running each of the games and then some. And there are errors in the book, some glaring weaknesses in translation and others leaving out stuff here and there, but it does the game a service and it tells the story it is meant to tell. It goes into detail, too, explaining to people that have and haven't played about all the games and their little catches and how the Raccoon City has become synonymous with the word "undead." Personally I thought it did so through a few creative manners, too, showing the readers clips from the game while telling some of the stories and also giving bios on both friendlies and enemies alike to show you exactly what Umbrella was doing.
And, by the look of it, Umbrella was a hive of busy bees.

Granted, this book isn't for everyone and you probably know if you are part of the intended audience. I personally found it enlightening, for instance, even though there are chapters on the combination of healing herbs and what they do. It was because I have been playing the game for years now, and each little pixilated mass had meaning when I looked at it. I remembered when I first saw a "licker" running across the precinct window (really, who doesn't?) and seeing it in a little clip made me smile and laugh. The same can be said for the different type of baddies, the Nemesis that spent the entire 3rd game chasing me around, and even those plague-filled birds that burst through a few windows and game me a start.
I recommend it, but only if the things in this review really make you nod in agreement and think "yeah, I remember that one."

4 out of 5 stars Lowdown on the Archives.......2007-07-06

This is a very thoughtful and interesting item for true Resident Evil fans. I love the mythology and background story of Resident Evil. Here is the lowdown: I was a little disappointed that the Archives only detail the events up to 1998, instead of 2004(for RE4), and that there are a few grammatical errors, but it is still a very good item. I am glad that I got my hands on it.

5 out of 5 stars Pretty Much, everything you need to know about resident Evil Pre-RE4.......2007-02-07

If there is anything in the Resident Evil/biohazard series that ever confused you, this booke can answer it, it has absolutely everything through the resident evil series up to RE4, it even includes code veronica information, and has concept art for resident evil 1.5 (the original resident evil 2 that was dropped)It also has profiles for about every single character ever mentioned in the series, even the paintings of people in the Ashford mansion, its a great buy, and I suggest it to any hardcore Resident Evil Fan!

A 5... out of 5!

5 out of 5 stars A hardcore fans dream..........2007-01-27

If you love Resident Evil you owe it to yourself to have this book.

This book is huge and is loaded to the brim with drawings, screenshots, bios, lists, etc. Its amazing high quality will keep you interested for a long time.

But beware. This book only contains Resident Evil 1-3 and Code Veronica. It doesnt contain the recently hugely popular Resident Evil 4.
Hopefully when part 5 is released they will publish a Archives vol 2...

    5 out of 5 stars good guide.......2006-11-03

this book helped me through the levels, the levles are long with no save points so you don't want to die 3/4 thruogh the level

    5 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Player's Guide.......2006-07-17

It's hard not to find a satisfactory player's guide, and this is no exception. I buy player's guides for two reasons, and those would be for: 1. collecting 2. Help, because I'm stuck and don't know what to do. This just so happens to be one of those where I needed help to complete the game. I have no problems with this product and would recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars A must-have guide.......2006-03-02

I began the game sans the guide and decided it was to my best interest to start over after reviewing the hints. It probably would have taken me until NEXT Christmas to finish instead of the 3 months.

3 out of 5 stars This guide vs. Gamefaqs free contents.......2006-01-11

Why would you shell out a dozen big ones to get a walkthrough while you can get two dozen walkthroughs for free plus lots of detailed guides for free on Gamefaqs.com? Two reasons: 1. This guide is much better written and edited than the poor-English ones you find on Gamefaqs, 2. this guide includes maps and other goodies. If you are a true RE4 fan this is an indispensable companion to getting the most -- like 100% -- out of your RE4 game. If you just want to play RE4 once through, then one of the free walkthroughs from Gamefaqs should suffice.

4 out of 5 stars too many spoilers; not enough "walkthrough".......2005-08-25

I've relied on really good Guides by Birlew, and this one is good-but in this case it seems like he took the day off; thinking perhaps the 'wow' of the game would forgive. He is usually careful not to spoil any scares or plot points and walk you through tough battles. In this one he would say something more like " Around the next corner a zombie waits to surprise ambush you, you can escape his attack like so....then you will be attacked by a series of 3 waves of zombies totaling 14, but don't enter the tower or the house across the street or there will be 18, one with a chainsaw-fight them your own way." He could/should have offered alot more strategy without giving away so many of the games key 'jump out of your seat' moments. I'm a little diappointed. Otherwise, it's up to snuff if you want a good walkthrough. If you're just stuck on one thing and don't plan on replaying the game or finding eveything-look online.

    Book Description

Zombies. Mutant animals. Bioengineered weapons and surgically enhanced monsters. Secret labs and widespread conspiracies. It seemed impossible, but Kill Valentine and her teammates among the S.T.A.R.S. had seen it all firsthand when the Umbrella Corporation turned Raccoon City into a staging ground for the most insidious genetic experiments ever conceived. After all she's been through, Valentine is ready to leave that remote mountain community forever.

But Umbrella isn't finished with Raccoon City.

Too much evidence of their unethical and immoral research still exists. It must be recovered or destroyed -- and quickly -- before it can be traced back to Umbrella. And with William Birkin's mutagenic virus already spreading through the city like wildfire, drastic measures are needed. Under cover of night, mercenary teams have entered the city, along with something else -- Umbrella's failsafe: an evolved version of its Tyrant-class killing machines, a lethal creature code-named Nemesis. Now Nemesis is on the hunt. And Jill Valentine is about to become prey.

5 out of 5 stars S.D. Perry Does it Again!.......2006-08-11

Yet another great game->book translation by S.D. Perry. If you've enjoyed the other RE books you'll love this one as well.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2006-06-09

This book was great even though it did not follow the game, exactly. nemesis was sweet in the book aswas really well written and kept he should be. This book my intrest from page one.

5 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece for S.D. Perry!!!.......2006-03-06

I really liked this book better than Caliban Cove or Zero Hour. This book introduces you to two new charaters Carlos Oliveira and Nicolai Ginovaef. The book starts with Carlos getting a call from his squad leader about going on a umbrella operation. Umbrella labeled it a chemical spill.Yeah right!!While Carlos is walking towards the Umbrella office to get briefed on the operation he meets the mysterious Mr. Trent who gives him some important information. Also Jill Valentine an X-S.T.A.R.S member is trying to get out of Raccoon. This book had some similarities to the Resident Evil Apocalypse movie which I also liked. The best part I think was the tidbit of information about Mr. Trent at the end. You find out what his motivation is for destroying Umbrella. All in all I rank it with The Umbrella Conspiracy and City of the dead two other S.D. Perry masterpieces. Well I have one more book to read Code: Veronica and I will be done with the series. I am feeling kinda of sad because these books were so good and I don't know what will take it's place.

    4 out of 5 stars "Nemesis" A Friendly Read.......2005-12-18

Once again, Racoon City is awash with zombies, mutants, bioengineered badies and surgically enhanced nasties. 'Nemesis', though the fifth book in the series, is never short for new and unexpected horrors as a courtesy of S. D. Perry's skilled imagination and writing style. It seems with Umbrella at the helm and Ms. Perry there to guide their unscrupulous activities in new and horrific directions there is a never ending way for mutagenic virus to wreak havoc. As expected, blood does flow and, as usual, the body count rises rapidily in a repetative but otherwise well paced and evenly told tale.

5 out of 5 stars gives the game life.......2005-10-04

The story is basically based on the third game "Nemesis" of the Resident Evil series which I am a fan of. This is my favorite of all of the RE books. It brings the game story life and I felt it all over again. I just wish they'd do it for "Dino Crisis" as well.

    THEY KNEW IT WASN'T OVER....

In the aftermath of their ordeal through the Umbrella Corporation's genetic research facility, the surviving members of the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.) attempt to warn the world about the conspiracy to create terrifying biological weapons. But the conspiracy is far from dead, as the S.T.A.R.S. learn when they are declared outlaws by the very people who trained them. Forced to go underground, the S.T.A.R.S. resolve to battle the conspiracy on their own, determined to seek out and stop Umbrella's experiments wherever they may be.

Combat medic and biochemist Rebecca Chambers, the sole survivor of Bravo Team,

joins a new S.T.A.R.S. strike force when rumor comes of another Umbrella

experiment: hidden beneath the rocky cliffs of Caliban Cove, Maine, someone is

building an army of the undead. Within a sinister lighthouse, through a complex

maze of sea caves, inside the shell of a sunken shipwreck, the S.T.A.R.S. must

battle more unspeakable horrors and stop a madman from unleashing the biohazard

    upon the world.

But the S.T.A.R.S. may never get the chance, as the aggressive DNA-altering virus Umbrella has engineered to create its living weapons begins to infect them....

This first all-original Resident Evil bridges the events depicted in the bestselling games Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2.

1 out of 5 stars Not as exciting as the other books........2007-08-13

I am a big Resident Evil fan and I have all of Perry's books. The 2nd book to me was very bland. The characters are well developed, but there was something missing in the plot. Seriously, zombies with guns? Although in the fourth game the 'zombies' (not corpse-like) are armed, the idea of picturing a rotting corpse with a machine gun is laughable, but boring.

4 out of 5 stars Another Pretty Good Book From S.D. Perry!!.......2006-02-26

I liked this book much better than Zero Hour. Rebecca Chambers the lone survivor of the Bravo team joins another S.T.A.R.S team to infiltrate another Umbrella facility. To me the best part was when one of their own gets the virus and we see how it affects her. To me it wasn't as exciting and as suspenseful as some of Perry's other books but it is still a good read. The City Of The Dead is my favorite so far and The Umbrella Conspiracy isn't far behind. These are the masterpieces!!

3 out of 5 stars This is wierd........2006-02-13

A big Departure from the videogame series. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it doesn't. But, regrettably, there are some puzzles in here that are just a little bit too familiar and have been used in other movies. Believe me I know. But the ending is a sure-fire resident evil style ending. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Day of the Dead.......2006-01-28

And again, S.D. Perry writes another exciting book. Resident Evil: Caliban Cove is about an evil scientist by the name of Nicholas Griffith. He tries to send the deadly T-Virus across the world. But in order to do so, he must go up against the Special Tactics And Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.).

The T-Virus infects anything that has an open wound or is already dead. It goes through the blood stream, attacking and destroying anything that it has contacted. It then reanimates the body turning the host into a flesh-eating zombie. The only way to get the disease is if you are scratched or bitten by one that is already infected.

This is an excellent story in my opinion. It is based on the events from the games Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. The events in this story keep you guessing what will happen next. It is a great story for non-fiction readers, or for anyone who likes flesh-eating zombies.

4 out of 5 stars Choppy Waters In "Caliban Cove".......2005-12-18

A change of location is in store in this second installment of S. D. Perry's "Resident Evil". The waters off the Maine coastline are none to tranquil and as the tale continues the waters get choppy. A prescription for Dramamine would be in order as motion sickness sets in when it is discovered that T-virus infected victims are capable of learning rudimentary instructions. George Romero was able to introduce the undead exhibiting basic reasoning skills as an evolutionary process in his latest zombie film "Land of the Dead" as it served as an allegory to how the disenfranchised survived in society; no such context was established here, though, and it didn't ring true. In spite of some of the sailing not being entirely smooth, "Caliban Cove" deserves its place on the shelf with the other of Perry's "Resident Evil" volumes.

Apparently these are based on the game, which I have never played. A young woman is held captive by a pair of twins who are related to the whole Umbrella thing. They have a very twisted relationship.

She manages to get out, and meets a boy around the area, and they try and escape, dodging monsters.

Elsewhere, the girl's brother, a S.T.A.R.S. member, decides to come looking for her.

The female twin is the carrier of the T-Veronica virus, meaning she can become a superhuman shapeshifter. This is bad news for some.

    4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2007-08-13

This book was enjoyable. I was glad that Steve died; he was too annoying in the game and the book reminded me why.

3 out of 5 stars "Code" Is Cryptic.......2005-12-18

Exotic locales are the springboard in this latest entry of S. D. Perry's 'RE' offering. From a South Atlantic island off the coast of South America to bases at the South Pole on the Antartic continent, exotic realms abound. Add to this a secluded mansion inhabited by reclusive twins and haunted by Bandersnatches, this strange brew conjures an unusual concoction of imagary spanning everthing from 'The Thing' to 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass'. traditional elements of gothic novels are prevelant as well. Yet, through all of this, 'Code: Veronica' often remains cryptic as the many parts to this puzzle lose cohesion and the conclusion having the impression of being forced or rushed. At times, the residents of this 'Resident Evil' almost seem unclear how to stay in character. Though there is a bit of a fumble here, S. D. Perry does a respectable job at providing a readable sixth tale for the 'RE' franchise volumes of books.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorites.......2005-10-04

This is one of my favorites about the Resident Evil series. Buy this book. It's as good as the game series.

It tells the story well, and adds a human emotion to it that the game did not go into. Though, it seemed to rush at the end

5 out of 5 stars Resident Evil #1 The Umbrella Conspiracy by S.D. Perry.......2007-08-27

Excellent book. I always had trouble focusing while reading. I would read a page and then go back and read it again because I forgot what I read. Not after I read this book. I love horror stories and the book reads great. I have read all the books in the series, plus some Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance books after this. I also read Idoru, Gates of Fire, and the Human Comedy, and classics like Slaughterhouse Five, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the Good Earth.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad for book number one.......2007-06-04

GREAT!!!...Sort off. in all honiesty it wasn't too bad. It followed the game a little too closely and those who have played resident evil directors cut would know what happens next. But i liked it because it followed seperate accounts of each character, so whilst one character was doing one thing you ended up following the seperate acounts of another character. I deffinately reccomend it for those who are not too familiar withe game as it goes into more detail of the events befor the game. I would also reccomend buying the second novel after this and so on and so on. happy reading resi fans

4 out of 5 stars From the prespective of a fan.........2006-10-16

I would have to say, I really loved reading through this book. From a fan's prespective, there are both good and bad points. Just to make it clear, SD Perry did a FANTASTIC job of describing what happens in the game. On the other hand, since I've played the games and read all the files.. the book didn't elaborate *too much* on the story.. and parts of the beggining which(I will not ruin) were just sort of monotonous(Wesker). I'm assuming the author assumes the majority of the audience would be the fans of the videogame series, but I still believe just a little bit more description of the areas in the mansion would be nice.. "Turned right and took the closest door!" doesn't quite cut it when I'm trying to use my imagination. For the good points, the book moves at a very good pace. There were familiar puzzles from the game but not to the point where they are drawn out and monotonous. The characters were also fleshed out very well for the type of novel this is. For any fan, I would definately reccomend this book. For anyone else, I am not so sure... because of course, this is from the opinion of a fan. I will definately read the rest of the RE books, especially since the next in the series is an original adaptation to the story :]

5 out of 5 stars Best Book Series I've Ever Read.......2006-08-14

When I first bought this book, I read 25 pages or so and then just stopped reading. Why did I do this? I have no idea. It was a very stupid decision on my part. It was about a year later that I was bored and looking for something to do. I saw the book and decided to read it. Now I am not typically someone who reads. In facts these are some of the only books I've read outside of school. So if you're like me and don't care for reading, these books may change your mind. After reading Resident Evil, I was wanting more and I now own every book in the series. The Umbrella Conspiracy still remains to be my favorite. It's just a great horror novel. It goes into detail about how the T-virus affected Raccoon City, and how the S.T.A.R.S. attempt to stop the virus. The other books in the series go further into the mystery and other viruses, and how they affect the world.

This was the fastest book I have ever read. Every single chance I had to read it, I would. It even has a clouple funny parts in it. S.D. Perry did an amazing job on these books. It's a mixture of dark, horror, scary elements with plenty of violence and action to keep your mind occupied. You will have no problem imagining the events in your head. It's not hard reading either, so you should be able to breeze right through it. There really are no boring parts in this book, except maybe a bit of the beginning.

So get your self a copy of this book if you haven't done so. You will be wanting more at the end. Check out the entire series after reading this, but go in order from first to last. The movie which was "supposedly" based off this book was terrible and didn't follow the storyline at all which is of course what Hollywood does to most movies based off of books. Don't see it. If you love horror novels or if you're a fan of the video game, this needs to be part of your collection. But if you are shy to violence and gore, this is not the book for you, cause this baby is filled with all that good stuff. You just can't get enough of this. I'll say it again> Best book series I have ever read. Get it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Game --> Book Translation!.......2006-08-10

This was one of the very first books I read based on a video game. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised! For those who love the plot of the resident evil games and always want to know more (like myself), definitely check out the entire series! S.D. Perry has done a fantastic job with every single one of them!

2 out of 5 stars Rushed throughout the book.......2007-08-13

I love the Resident Evil series, but the only problem I had with this book was that I felt very rushed into things. It seemed that every time a character took over the segments there was always suspense: The bat attacks. The centipede attacks. There seemed to be too much action in this book when compared to the others. The characters were always on the move and that made it boring. Sadly, I felt almost the same thing when it came to the game version (Resident Evil 0).

1 out of 5 stars Perry should be ashamed.......2007-02-06

Luckily I borrowed, rather than bought, this pathetic waste of paper, hoping my son would read it after beating the game.

If you want the backstory, read an FAQ online for free. It will show more imagination, be better written and fill in more backstory than SD Perry's typing exercise. Lacklustre descriptions of what you see more imaginatively-rendered in the game, no insight into the characters, no suspense. You might as well be reading a sixth-graders essay: "What happens when U play RE0..."

There's nothing in this tedious book that shows the slightest glimmer of interest in the RE universe or writing talent on the part of the author. For example, we could have followed the experiences of one of the Umbrella management trainees as his dreams of corporate success changed into the nightmare of being an unwilling guinea pig in Marcus' experiments, ending in the tanks attached to the Church area where Rebecca gets the leech charm. We could have explored the rivalry between Wesker and Birkin, and seen something of the relationship between Spencer and Marcus, or followed Marcus' development of the virus prototypes and learned more about his symbiotic relationship with the leeches and the creation of the leech zombies.

What really happened in the jungle with Billy's unit? How did the Leech Queen come to be? Why does Marcus not know that Wesker and Birkin are in the building and send his leeches after them? After ten years, how is it that Wesker knows nothing about Marcus' research, when the notes have been lying around the training facility all this time? We will never know the answers and Perry was too lazy to think about them.
Instead, we get a boring, abbreviated rehash of the gameplay (read it if you're stuck at the animal/flame puzzle). There isn't an ounce of imagination or talent on display in this, mercifully, short grab for easy cash by SD Perry.

At least I know to stay away from anything typed by this person. Yuck...

4 out of 5 stars Just like playing the game.......2006-09-26

I am a fan of the Resident Evil video games and this book was very much like watching someone else play the game. It wasn't as graphic as it could have been. The creatures weren't described in enough detail to do them justice, but the story flowed well and had a great ending.

S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team is in for a surprise when they enter Racoon City to investigate some unexplained murders. Rebecca Chambers, the youngest member of the team has her hands full when she stumbles upon Billy Coen, a military man who has been sentenced to be executed for crimes he may or may not have committed. Will Billy and Rebecca team up to survive, or will they opt to destroy one another to get out?

The story is fast paced and well developed. Sure, there are some unbelievable moments, but isn't that to be expected in Raccoon City? This was a fun, easy to read book. I will definitely read the next one.

    4 out of 5 stars A good book!!.......2006-02-24

This book is pretty good but not as good as The Umbrella Conspiracy or City Of The Dead which is my favorite so far. I thought it would explain in more detail about the release of the virus all I found out basically is who let it out. I didn't really like the leech story myself but I still didn't want to put it down til I had finished it. All in all a pretty good book. To me not really necessary to the Re storyline but a book to pass the time with.

5 out of 5 stars "Zero Hour" Timely Finish.......2005-12-18

The seventh volume of S. D. Perry's 'Resident Evil' series is a perfectly paced adventure. A consistent style follows throughout most of the books in this collection, the only missteps appearing in 'Caliban Cove' and 'Code: Veronica', and at times being predictable and formulaic which is a common pratfall of most series. This aside, the talent Perry displays for balancing scens and character development and positioning makes this particular group of works well worth having in one's collection. It would be worth having Ms. Perry bring this cycle of work to an even ten books, hopefully giving the character Trent an opportunity to find closure to personal quest which followed through of the previous stories!

I thought this was a great book. Good emphasis on the characters, the plot, and the monsters.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite so far of the first four.......2007-04-07

For the last two weeks I've been reading this series of books, and so far I have completed 1-4. This book is my favorite so far. I really thought the story was interesting and it kind of let your imagination run wild. There was also some humor added at certain points that really made the book a good read. Out of all of the books, this one seemed the most intriguing to me. She somehow instilled a story about the STARS running through an Umbrella "Jurassic Park" of sorts with a true RE feel and some really funny comedy. Perry does miss a few notes here and there when it comes to her choice of words and writing in general, but to me her writing is very tolerable.

    4 out of 5 stars A good story!!.......2006-04-10

I liked this story better than Caliban Cove. I wanted to give it a try since I had read some bad reviews about it. Honestly I think it's a good book. Now it doesn't have zombies in it but it does have freakish monsters in there. I think the best part is at the Epilogue when you find out more about Trent. Now things are coming together, making sense. So if you like S.D. Perry books I think you'll like this one. I would save this for the last though cause The Umbrella Conspiracy, The city of the dead, Nemesis, & Code Veronica are better this is just a another adventure not part of the storyline.

5 out of 5 stars Can You say die?.......2006-02-13

This book had a fast begining to start off with. And although it is vague at times, it still good. After all, vaguness leaves room for the real imagination thinkers to work. When I first started reading this, I believed the premise and thought that this could've been a great movie. It has all the making's of it. (I think that was the writer's intention.) And you love this one gimick involving a experiment in survival of the fittest. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars "Underworld" Over The Top.......2005-12-18

One gets the feeling that this series is, if nothing else, a travelogue disquised as horror novels. All this moving about is, at times, over the top. New locales, of course, provide a fresh batch of creepy critters in the ever expanding menagerie of Umbrella's offerings. Lurking and lurching beneath the sands of an American Southwest desert secret facility there are creatures that are as unnatural as they are unwholsome. Dacs, Scorps, Spitters and Hunters ... Oh my! Dorothy and Toto most likely would have found their journey through Oz much more harrowing had such denizens crept across the Yellow Brick Road. More exciting than this, though, is an enticing glimpse into the ever present and always mysterious Mr. Trent ... just enough for the faithful 'RE' followers to glimpse what is the driving forces behind the man, and Umbrella as well. An interestingly constructed story that leaves one wondering where the next novel will begin.
