the warrior really is within.......2007-01-25
this is a great tutorial for those seeking extra help in this game riddled with puzzles. it requires careful reading here and there though it is overall a great help.
First review on game related product........2006-02-24
Though I purchased this strategy guide, I haven't yet utilized it. My process for purchasing any game or guide is subscribing to game magazines and reading the reviews for the game. Also, if I can get a demo for the game this helps a great deal in getting a feel for it--(control scheme). Purchasing a guide is helpful only if I get stuck in the game. Its more economical than calling a help/support/cheat number. I do hope this is a valid review and is useful to whomever reads it.
Quite Helpful.......2005-09-02
This book has gotten me through some confusing situations in the game. My feeling of accomplishment doesn't come from figuring out how to do something - it comes from actually being able to do it! One of the frustrations I have is that the guide is written so that it's not specific to a system, so you have to know the generic names of the control buttons. This is not a criticism of the product, just a fact when a game can be played on different delivery systems. I would like some of the pictures to be larger and clearer - I need the visual aids to help me along. Overall, without this book, I would have been stuck early in the game and stopped playing.
Simply the Best.......2005-08-23
I have been using Prima strategy guides for years now. They are quite frankly simply the best. They are easy to read and follow. I like to use them only if I get in a jam and have no idea how to get around it! POP: Warrior Within is a fun excellent game, and I would reccomend it to anybody.

The Sands of Time Official Strategy Guide.......2006-08-16
Very good.
Delivered on time.
Excellent!.......2004-08-02
This book is as excellent as the game itself! It has INCREDIBLE art from the game, stuff that was drawn by the creators that shows the early stages of the game to the finished product, it has weapons pictures and character pictures.
The walkthrough here is one of the better ones I've seen. It is quite extensive and well explained! Anyone can follow it when stuck or all the way through if they like. It shows you tips and tricks most wouldn't find out for themselves if a casual gamer etc. It is a GREAT companion to the game!
One Great Leap for Mankind..........2004-01-28
The Sands of Time is a puzzle game with few real puzzles. Instead the problem to be solved is architecture - how one accomplishes the apparently impossible task of getting from on place to another. You have a simple palette of actions from which to draw, and are often leaping into space with a wing and a prayer. For the player who runs up and down walls, bouncing from point to point there is an exhilaration that can only be compared with flying.
Unfortunately, for the beginner faced with a monumental task there can be a lot of frustration. The game provides a quick flash of hints, and then you are on your own. Thanks to the built in replay facility one can try different solutions until the answer materializes, but every once in a while the right sequence simply eludes us.
This guide is for those moments. It provides a lucid, brief walkthrough with illustrations and maps. While the maps are sometimes hard to read, and the screen shots too tiny, I only found one play where the suggestions just didn't seem to gel. I had to resort to random action, but eventually did find that the guide had been correct, but elusive. I like the guide's style, which focuses on what is necessary and sufficient rather than trying to be a souvenir.
If you are having trouble, or just want to get the Prince aloft as quickly as possible, this is the resource for you.

Product Description
A treasure of uncommon wisdom and spiritual insight, these valuable words of advice were given to the Prince of Persia nearly 1,000 years ago by his father. The writings from King KaiKaus are gleaned from hundreds of pages of rediscovered ancient texts. The result is a profound vision of how to live life like a King. The advice is both poignant, enlightening and full of timeless lessons you can use today. "An amazing compilation of advice on life equally as important today as it was when it was written." Illustrated with digitally enhanced images from the colorful paintings of the Shahnama (The book of Kings). This e-book makes a great father son gift appropriate for graduation day or as a birthday present. Everyone who reads it will find themselves referring back to the quotes in this text over and over again. On the Treatment of Others: "The practice of men of distinction is two kinds: some have each dish set first before themselves and then before their guests while others first place the dish before their guests. The second is the better custom because it is induced by generosity whereas the other is suggested by self-importance." On Daily Habits: "Philosophers say that a day-and-night consists of twenty-four hours. Foolish people are asleep for one-half of the twenty-four hours and are awake for the other half. Wise men sleep for one-third of the time and are awake for two-thirds." On Drinking: "If you are grievously suffering from the after effects of intoxication it is permissible to drink a little in order to allay the wine-sickness and so reduce discomfort caused by it."

Timeless Words of Wisdom.......2005-12-23
With words of wisdom that transpire religion, culture and even time; To The Prince of Persia is a great reminder that in spite of how different we think we are - our values and humanity are really quite similar. Excellent read!
Chicken Soup for the Middle Eastern Soul.......2005-11-18
Nino Kader has brought together the advice of King KaiKaus, publishing the first English compendium of the king's teachings. This book makes a great gift. In it, you will find advice on the noble and the mundane things in life. To wit, "Dry your hair well before coming out, that is the practice of men of wisdom and dignity. To leave the baths with hair wet and go into the presence of important personages is bad manners." Fashion advice as diplomatic guidance. How can you improve on that?
Think of it as "Chicken Soup for the Middle Eastern Soul."
A Great Collection of Ancient Words of Wisdom.......2005-08-19
Before the 48 Laws of Power and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the King of ancient Persia had the foresight to memorialize the lessons he wanted his son to learn, and "To the Prince of Persia" is a great collection of this father's wisdom with lessons that still find relevance in our lives today.
This book will easily sit in anyone's library alongside Sun Tzu's Art of War. When ancient texts withstand the test of time we should all be grateful that we're able to reach back in time and learn these truths all over again.
Bravo To the Prince of Persia!

Book Description
For over two millennia, the Cyropaedia, an imaginative biography of the Persian king Cyrus the Great, was Xenophon's most popular work and considered his masterpiece. This study contributes to the recent rediscovery of the Cyropaedia and Xenophon, making intelligible the high esteem in which writers of the stature of Machiavelli held Xenophon's works and the importance of his place among classical authors.
The ending of the Cyropaedia has presented a notoriously difficult puzzle for scholars. The bulk of the work seems to idealize the career of Cyrus, but the final chapter documents the swift and disastrous degeneration of the empire he founded. This conclusion seems to call his achievements into question. Nadon resolves this long-standing interpretive difficulty and demonstrates for the first time the overall coherence and unity of the Cyropaedia. He elucidates the Xenophontic critique of Cyrus contained within the whole of the work and unearths its analysis of the limitations of both republican and imperial politics.
This provocative and original treatment of the Cyropaedia will be a definitive step in restoring the status of this important work. Nadon's lively, insightful study draws upon his deep knowledge and understanding of classical political theory and reveals in the Cyropaedia a subtlety and sophistication overlooked until now.
Customer Reviews:
not impressed by this analysis.......2006-11-21
Nadon's analysis of Xenophon's masterpiece Cyropedia does not reflect the true intension of Xenophon in the original text; he claims that Cyrus was using methods of a typical tyrant to achieve his goals (to transform Persia from a Republic to an Empire).
He believes that he has solved the puzzle about inconsistencies between body of Xenophon's text and its surprising ending in chapter 8 but the truth is that the author is torn between translation and analysis of the original text and his own imagination and speculations around the subject and the analysis is not based on knowledge about Iranian history and traditions and it has lead to a need for twisting and turning the original text of Cyropedia to suit the analysis.
It can not be denied that Cyrus the Great librated Babylonians and we have texts written at end of political independence of Babylonia which vilifies Nabonidus and praises Cyrus the Great as the liberator of the oppressed sanctuaries and the king of Persians are not considered as foreign invader but the saviour (Ancient Mesopotamia chapter III).
On many occasions the author completely looses his ability to return to original text of Cyropedia and his imagination takes over ,page 158 shows a clear example there he is stating `we must note he(Cyrus)
never expresses the slightest concern for Panthea's honour and his references from Cyropedia is 6.3.15
The original text does not indicate anything close to what the author himself is referring to.
Another ridiculous statement on page 114 is (from foot note and text): Cyrus castrated men and employed them as his personal bodyguards. How can someone harm another human in such a manner and then leave him in charge for his own security????(Again the speculation that the author made has nothing to do with the text of Cyropedia, it was his imagination).
In chapter four we can see a discussion about Xenophon's book Hiero and how the tyrant must commit various criminal acts to acquire and to preserve his rule, but a closer examination of Xenophon's Hiero reveals that Xenophon's tyrant is in fact very different from Xenophon's Cyrus.
The Tyrant lives in luxury (Hiero IV.9),instead of admiring merit the tyrant kills people with merit(Hiero V.1,2),incriminate his fatherland, to train his citizens to soldiers, confers no pleasure on him(Hiero V 4),The tyrant instead of aiding or avenging despotic lord, murders private citizens and he sets up statues of the doers of such deeds in temples(Hiero IV 4), and finally the Tyrant relies on foreign bodyguards only ,in fear for his own security he can not trust his countrymen.
If we compare behaviour and method of rule of Xenophon's tyrant in Hiero and his Cyrus in Cyropedia,
we can see striking difference in relation to his subjects, friends and family and way of life.
In my opinion Mr Nadon's analysis is not convincing and I hope that in near future we can have a deeper and more detailed study of Xenophon's masterpiece , Cyropedia
Xenophon has described Cyrus the Great as kind, benevolent and generous and the author had to twist and turn the text to suit his own conspiracy theory .
A much better book to read is Xenophon's Cyrus the Great, the art of leadership and war by Larry Hedrick.
You can visit [...] for a preview of a documentary film about Cyrus the Great.
The heart of the text.......2004-04-10
This is an illuminating and truly original interpretation of this rich and difficult book. Most other criticism of Xenophon is ultimately condescending and assumes that the author is somehow naive in the subjects he addresses here - leadership, politics, and the nature of a republic. Nadon takes the author on his own terms, rather than try to interpret him through modern theories. By approaching Xenophon with respect and scholarship, he finds the themes that unite this book and which show the modern reader the intent of this great classic mind.
Outstanding Interpretation.......2001-11-29
Nadon's careful examination of Xenophon's Education of Cyrus is by far the best available treatment of the work: careful, concise, beautifully written. Highly recommended as an introduction not only to Xenophon, but to the reading of classical literature generally.

Let the game begin.......2000-02-27
I purchase Prince of Persia around christmas time cause it had some great graphics. Then I started playing it. I was a man with no sense of purpose so I guess at thing alot and read the manual over and over again to no avail. The game was no longer fun. I was like a lost boy in the woods without a compass. Finally I dicided that it was time to do somthing so I bought the book. Now I have a compass better yet this book is more like a GPS unit. I have completed two level and boy is this game fun. If you are lost and need to find your way than this book is for you.
Mr. Bub's Insight to the Game was Invaluable!.......1999-10-23
I can not say enough about this book! It was a tremendous help. My biggest complaint abut plot-based video games is that the goals and objectives can be too hard to figure out. Several times this was the case for me while playing "Prince of Persia 3D." I was so frustrated, I contemplated quitting the game. However, this book by Andrew Bub helped smooth out all of the incongruities that the programmers of the Prince of Persia failed to rectify (in my opinion), and helped me finish the game. Mr. Bub's writing style was intelligent yet easy to read, obviously written by someone who has spent a lot of time "in the trenches." I look forward to his next stategy guide!

In the name of Iran.......2006-08-24
This book was indepth research of King of kings Cyrus the Great with respect how did He became the King of Persia/Iran.
Interestingly, Cyrus the Great became the King of Iran not by having large army but by hard work, and relying on His good allies and friends to establish His empire.
If English is your second language or if you are first time reader of Cyrus the Great you may wish to read this book "Xenophon's Cyrus The Great" by Larry HEDRICK in order to grasp King of kings Cyrus the Great very well.
Ahura Mazda be with you.
Xenofreak.......2005-09-28
This truly is one of the most remarkable books I've ever read and I would encourage anyone with an interest in military science, government or leadership to take the time to read it. This book requires commitment and a quiet place to read and savor its thought-provoking passages. The investment of time and effort is dwarfed by the magnitude of the lessons this book has to offer. Make the commitment and you'll see why this book was a favorite of men like Alexander the Great, Scipio Africanus, Caesar and Machiavelli.
What exactly are you buying here?.......2003-12-09
This book is not in the style of a Platonic dialogue, or a play (whether a tragedy or comedy), a Homeric epic (but if you're careful, you'll note parallels), or a history (like Herodotus).
No, Xenophon - a contemporary of Plato's, a student of Socrates - was considered a philosopher way back when. He tells a story and you might think it is a history that is meant to be accurate. There is nothing accurate about Xenophon's use of history in this book; however, the story is well-told and funny, and the prose moves fast in this edition. (Which was your primary concern, of course: that this was a good read.)
He does teach philosophy - ancient philosophy concerned with ethics and politics - in an interesting way. The plot of the book is as follows: Cyrus of Persia receives an education unlike any of his peers. With that education, and a considerable bit of ruthlessness, he attempts to take over the world.
It's difficult to write a story where different philosophical viewpoints define characters and events. Somehow, Xenophon pulls this off, and manages to entertain his reader with tales of battles, lots of humorous exchanges between characters, and even some love stories strewn throughout.
(If you do Classics, you probably want to get acquainted with Xenophon, fast.)
A Brilliant Read.......2003-02-24
Herodotus' Histories is often considered the gold standard of knowledge pertaining to the Persian empire. Little is made of the fact that this Ionian had certain political grudges against his political masters and had never visited Persia or had entry into Persian society. Xenophone however was a nobleman who lived amongst the Persians and the Medes and was acquaianted with their ways and histories. Xenophone's observations on Persian society and religion are far closer to modern scholarship than Herodotus. Furthermore even the chronological inaccuracies of Cyropaedia are in the Persian tradition. As evidenced by Sassanian histories, the Persians had the habit of attributing the conquests of dynasties to their founders. However the most fascinating and thrilling aspect of reading this book is that the educational stories attributed to Cyrus are identical to the stories found in Adab or the Persian courtly literature of Islamic era. Given that Xenophone was not translated into Persian or Arabic, this confirms the authenticity of the materials used by Xenophone. I love this book and have read it twice already. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a closer look at the realities of Persia.
The opposite of xenophobia.......2000-10-02
Xenophobia is the fear of foreigners. Yet Xenophon's greatest book was a biography of the most hated foe of the greeks, Cyrus.
Cyrus was the greatest emperor of the Persian empire, and the antecedent (see what a great scholar I am? I can't remember all the exact facts like a real student should; I read this stuff for fun) of the Persian emperor who Alexander defeated right before Alexander went crazy and decided to conquer the rest of the world while he was on a streak.
In today's Jingoistic anti-Iran & Iraq climate, it's illuminating to get the Persian perspective on world history, and since I haven't found any Persian histories written from the ancient Persian viewpoint, this book is the best I've read.
