Book Description

Kenyon became a remarkable success story with Dark Side of the Moon, which became an instant bestseller. Now, her newest, most imaginative, and most breathtaking Dark-Hunter novel yet tells the tale of an ex-god in search of revenge, a servant of Artemis out to stop him, deadly enemies at every turn and a plot that may very well end the world. Ever since the moment his godhood was taken by Artemis, Sin has done nothing but plot his revenge. But when he kidnaps a woman he believes to be the goddess, he quickly finds out that she is not Artemis, but her servant, Katra. And instead of capturing her, Katra captures him. She refuses to release him until he promises not to seek vengeance on her mistress. In spite of himself, Sin is intrigued by Katra, who is nothing like the deceitful Artemis. She's fierce and true, but also compassionate and loyal. However, Sin is not the only enemy Artemis has and it quickly becomes apparent that he must help Katra save her mistress... or life as we know it will cease to exist. What's an ex-god to do?

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read.......2007-09-28

very hard to put down, read it in one night, easily kept my interest throughout and would reccomend to anyone who likes the mystery and suspence of the paranormal romance

5 out of 5 stars Never a Disappointment!!!.......2007-09-27

Devil May Cry is another wonderful read by Sherrilyn Kenyon! I have yet to be disappointed by any of the Dark Hunter Novels. This was another one I couldn't put down.

So many questions about a lot of the characters were answered in this book that I am more anxious than ever for the next novel to come out. I am also awaiting the series of Dream Hunter Novels.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is THE BEST in my book when it comes to Paranormal Romance!

I highly recommend the entire series.

2 out of 5 stars The only DH novel I decided not to buy.... spoiler alert...........2007-09-26

I absolutely fell in love (with a half dozen different characters) the very first time I read a Dark Hunter novel. (The full length novels are much better than the anthologies) Sherrilyn Kenyon became my favorite author, and I would back up and re-read every book in the series in preparation for each new book coming out, just so I'd be 'refreshed' on everything. I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!!! If you haven't read the others, DO SO NOW!!! They are hot, exciting, well-written, sexy, and just plain good-to-their-bones books. But, for the first time, I've decided not to buy a DH book.

I've waited through a lot of books to finally get to Kats story. I know everyone was excited about Sin, but we hadn't seen him before now, and Kat I felt like I knew, and I wanted her have her own story. I'm sorry, but this was just such a let down after such a long wait. She wasn't as likable as she was in the other books. And Kat has always been a kick-a$$ kind of gal, like Tabatha in 'Seize the Night', but unlike Tabatha, who is a pistol from beginning to end, Kat went from tough girl to girly-girl. I mean, she's the child of two Gods, yet she comes across as powerless throughout the book. Her and Sins romance felt rushed and unreal, and to be honest, a bit boring. I wanted to really know Sins tortured past and be able to cry for him and root for him, like I did for Zarek in 'Dance With The Devil' (a GREAT DH book), but I never felt that close to him in this story.

And as soon as you saw Kat was the heroine and you knew she was going to be paired with Sin, then you knew the big secret was coming out, and she would be reunited with her long lost father. So I thought, okay, here it comes, the fireworks, the drama, the long awaited showdown between Ash and Artie... and it fizzled. I mean, here's this huge secret that's been what? 11 books in the making, and just a couple of pages after she announces she Ash's daughter she's calling him Daddy, like a six year old who wants to stay up past her bedtime, and Ash goes from 7 foot tall God of Destruction to 'Daddy Daycare' mode. And Ash doesn't so much as say boo to Artie. She kept a child from him for 11,000 years!!! She's physically beat him, tortured him, raped him, kept a child from him, allowed his loved ones to die... and she's still not been put in her place. I kept waiting for it, the bomb that's been sitting their ticking through all these books, but it was a dud. In the earlier books I got aggravated as Artie always getting away with being so evil, and I got frustrated because you can only sit back and watch the bully win so many times before you feel hopeless, but I figured, these stories are drawn out, it'll happen eventually. Now, I'm just sick of it.

The last really good DH book was 'Dark Side of the Moon'. I read it, and re-read it again the same week, something I hadn't done before with a book. And after it's ending, I've been waiting to hear something about what's going on with Nick and Stryker. No such luck.

So, overall, if you love a great story, with sexy characters, steamy love scenes, great writing-plot-settings, then read:
Fantasy Lover, Night Pleasures, Night Embrace, Dance with the Devil, Kiss of the Night, Night Play, Seize the Night, Sins of the Night, Unleash the Night, and Dark Side of the Moon.

All of these Kenyon books are phenomenal, but for me Devil May Cry fell far short of the rest. (So many authors seem to get overwhelmed with writing projects, or maybe tired of a series, or they just want try something new. They take a great formula and they mess it up. Julie Garwood did it with her Buchanan series. 'Heartbreaker' was Heaven, 'Mercy' was magnificent, and 'Killjoy' was... no K words, but it was one of the single best books I've ever read!!! Then she just went downhill in the series after that. And Noah Claybourn, a character you waited through over a half dozen books to get to his story, got the worst story of all. It just turns you off the whole series.)

I just hope and pray Mrs. Kenyon slows down a bit and goes back to her roots for Ash's story. After all these years and all these books, to be let down by his story will put me off her for good.

5 out of 5 stars A Wealth of Information.......2007-09-22

Sherrilyn Kenyon gave us a wealth of background information in this one! The story was laced with background details on some of her best recurring characters and on the mythology of the whole series. I won't go into detail in this review, because that would give away too much. Read the book....it's lots of fun.

If you're a fan of the Dark Hunters, you'll want to read this one to answer some of those burning questions like:
What keeps Acheron with Artemis?
How can the Atlantean gods and the Greek gods be connected?
How did the two (or are there more) pantheons get connected or did they?

The story through which these questions are answered and other veeerrry interesting information is revealed is fun and in keeping with the action and humor of the entire series. I really enjoyed it!!!

This book is adequate in getting across the information, but it is difficult to read and the strange placement of writing on the pages makes people miss important information the first time thru.

5 out of 5 stars Bradygames does it again.......2006-03-19

Awesome strategy guide! Between Bradygames and Prima, nobody else can make strategy guides like them. All full color, maps, and tons of useful information. If you are like me and like to find everything in the game you can't go wrong with this guide.

5 out of 5 stars My Son thinks it's great.......2005-09-13

He's 10 and thihs book helped him get more ouf the game (which he probably should'nt have anyway).

5 out of 5 stars Dante is one heck of a Bishonen........2005-05-22

This Guide is alot bigger then the last 2 for the other Devil May Cry Guides, and helps alot more. It has pictures to drool over of Dante and Vergil as well where secrets are located and in depth boss battles. It helps getting through tuff missions and where to find all those blue orbs. This Guide also comes with a bonus fold-out for all of Dante's avaliable moves in each of his classes. So this is a must get for any fan of Devil May Cry, either for help or like me for the gorgeous pictures of Dante, with the bonus of Vergil, Dante's older twin brother. It's true what they say, Sparta's twin sons have differences to work out and it'll be an all out Bishonen Brawl with Dante vs Vergil. Get seats today ^__^

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easy to follow strategy guide.......2002-10-06

Dan Birlew (better known to survival horror fans on the web as "President Evil") penned this easy-to-follow strategy guide.

I'm one of those players who doesn't have great reflexes and normally gets sliced to ribbons playing a game like this. But thanks to Birlew's guide, I was able to survive some of the toughest bosses, bad reflexes and all. The book points out the bosses's strengths and weaknesses, how to attack them and how to avoid them, as every good game guide should.

Oh, yeah, I did find one mistake in Birlew's guide: he states that you can't purchase untouchables (items that temporarily make you invincible). In fact, untouchables can be purchased at any time, though it'll cost you. Perhaps this was a change in the game that was implemented after Birlew's guide went to press.

5 out of 5 stars ..........2001-12-12

Even I have to admit that Dan Birlew is getting much better. After that FFIX guide I thought this guy would be bad. Anyways, to start off. I've been a HUGE collector of video game guides (I may be 15 and have high expectations for a guide such as they do need to help me a give me a gaming experience in the process) and I know a good guide when I see it.

This guide is defenitely good. Anyways, I read the other reviews, and Dan Birlew didn't do the Xenogears guide nor did David Cassady, it was Ronald Wartow, its right there on the fron cover. The maps are easy to read while I do admit they get tiresome every guide does. I know the maps aren't done by Dan Birlew but still they could use a little work. I look more at the detail in the walkthrough rather than how flashy the maps and screenshots are.

The walkthrough helps you out a lot and doesn't give off any spoilers at all and gets right to the point. I like this guide because the walkthrough is put together organized and doesn't look like it was rushed to get out. Its 160 pages and the guide has extremely good detail to it. Unlike the Prima (only 90 pages) and VERSUS BOOKS (112 pages) this guide has a ton of info.

I'd recomend this guide for anybody who likes strategy guides as much as I do.

5 out of 5 stars Thorough and Concise.......2001-11-21

Addressing the previous reviewer: Dan Birlew didn't even write the Xenogears guide, someone else named David Cassidy did. And why would you compare Mr. Birlew to Casey Lowe who writes guides for Pokemon? That's comparing apples to apples seeds. As for the maps, they were obviously not done by the author, just read the credits. Now for a more mature and observant review: This particular Devil May Cry guide is concise and thorough. It's written for an audience that is intelligent and sharp, a compliment to all gamers. The writing style does not talk down to the reader, as some guides tend to do. The slick design and stylized cover are done in such a way that it attracts gamers like me--adults with jobs and money to spend on toys. Overall, this guide is perfect for those gamers who do not fall into the "living in my parent's basement" stereotype. Kudos to BradyGames for targeting mature gamers with jobs!

5 out of 5 stars Very good guide much better than all the others.......2001-11-14

This guide is absolutely brilliant in ways that can't all be described! This guide is very detailed with some brilliant things to offer. Detailed maps, great walkthrough, and some bonus material make this DMC guide a must own.

Anyway, the guide really seems to live up to my expectations. Detailed maps of EVERY AREA unlike some of the other guides, and they pin-point the location of items and blue orb fragment. Not to mention that the strategy is very good as well. The maps are colorful and very detailed.

The walkthrough is well done giving you a brief details on bosses. For each boss they show you a suggested Life Gauge and a suggested Devil Trigger. Now thats something that I found really helpful in this guide.

The guide covers all the secrets including how to lock hidden characters and game modes! The guide also features an art gallery and exclusive Interviews! Again, it doesn't hurt to read them!

Overall, this is probably the best DMC guide out there. Much more detail and organization went into the walkthrough. Forget VERSUS BOOKS, this is your perfect guide to DMC!

3 out of 5 stars For Devil May Cry fans-only.......2007-01-04

It's not a really good manga, but you will enjoy it if you're a fan.

3 out of 5 stars Lacking..........2006-09-09

As much as I love Devil May Cry, the art and dialouge just can't carry a plot though very well here.

The art, while well done, doesn't convey a good picture of what's going on half the time. There are lots of appropriately creepy scenes with skulls, swirling darkness, and such except that they just end up being confusing to the action. Are the skulls attacking? What just happened? And now everything's dark for no reason...

Dialouge is sporadic and while Dante stays in character well, there isn't much help explaining a plot. Even if you're famaliar with DMC3, it can be hard to figure out what's going on. More dialouge, or even inner monolouges would help to make sense out of a lot of the scenes.

Based on the best-selling game, Devil May Cry 3 is an action-packed adventure, pitting good against evil...and brother against brother! Dante is a demon slayer and bounty hunter with a demon heritage of his own that haunts his past. He's currently unemployed--and bored to death. Opportunity knocks in the form of a missing-child case, which his friend and manager, Enzo, offers him. But a four-million-dollar reward, an unexpected demon attack and a little girl named Alice all conspire to send Dante through the looking glass on a nightmarish adventure beyond his wildest imagination.

3 out of 5 stars The Game Rocked.......2007-02-06

I loved the game, Devil May Cry 3 and for the most part, the book follows the game's story. I was just unimpressed with the artwork and general style of the drawings. If you're a huge fan of Dante, you'll probably still enjoy this book but I've been spoiled by better titles such as the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman.

5 out of 5 stars devil may cry is the coolest devils I have ever seen ^w^.......2006-02-25

am sure am gonna love devil may cry espicaly vergil charechter after this comic , it has awesome art work with some Fine dialoge but i was hopped that they could painted it and to concentrate on the drawing of the two main charechter (Danti and Vergil) cuz they don't like twin brothers as we all know it , exept that its very cool am gonna make my first (Devil May Cry) comics collection starting from this volume .

5 out of 5 stars Dante's story is awesome as always.......2005-10-21

I think the style of the artist completely fits the story. The lines are bold and dark with lots of shadows, reminding one of an atmosphere similar to the Crow or Final Fantasy VII: a dark, gritty landscape where violence can happen at any moment, especially amidst the shadows. Dante is well-rendered and absolutely hot (in my humble female opinion). The dialogue is just as gritty, low, sometimes vulgar, but exactly suitable to the type of world in which it is based.

I had thought that it might be hard to render the intense action-oriented scenes that occur in the game stylistically as well as they do in the manga, but I was pleasantly surprised. There are great cut shots to certain aspects of our anti-heros (eyes, gritted teeth, the chunky metal lines of his guns, the wicked length of a katana) that just absolutely fit. All in all, the manga artist makes everything stylistically gorgeous and the story is equally well-paced.

The relationship between Dante and his manager is interesting to see. Character interaction is of course just starting in this first volume and I can only wait with baited breath for the next volume to see just how much more sinister the undertones between brothers, between the opposing factions, get. This story translates so well to manga with just the right amount of gore, just the right amount of action, just the right amount of erotica, and just the right amount of backstory to leave the reader eager for more. I can't wait!

4 out of 5 stars Great guide, great game.......2002-01-22

If you like help, this is the book to buy. This game doesn't really require alot of help, except for the "secret missions." You may find some things you overlooked, or you may get the most out of the game by using the stratagies presented. Not a bad buy, Well written and detailed!

4 out of 5 stars It was pretty helpful........2002-01-07

This review was helpful to me. I was able to beat the game without it, but after I had already beaten the game, I wanted to get the stradegy guide to find any secrets I missed. It turned out there were THREE stradegy guides, and I could only find the Prima Games one. I'm normally a Brady Games Dan Birlew type of guy, but I couldn't find that one, so I just got this one. Now it told me where all of the blue orb fragments and red orbs and all the other colored orbs in the game I missed. It was fairly descriptive on where they were, and I was able to find them ok. It also gave in depth descriptions on tactics for beating bosses. I had already beaten the bosses, but the second time through the game, the tactics helped me beat them with less fault. The maps were very detailed too. It even had a moves reference card to refer to that you could pull out in case you forgot a move and didn't feel like going through the start menu. Now the 2 reasons I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because of the fact that it only covered one mode of gameplay, the normal mode, while it hardly said anything about "Legendary Knight" Mode, "Dante Must Die!" Mode, "Easy Automatic" Mode, and "Super Dante" Mode. It also didn't describe the characters to where you could grow to like them in a way that would get you excited to learn more about them through the game which to me, is a MAJOR thing in a stradegy guide. To other people, it might not seem that big, but in a stadegy guide, it's the little things that make me happy. I did learn to respect Dante greatly, but the way they described him in the guide was just sort of tacky. Well, all in all, I liked the guide from Prima and it helped me out a lot. I never got to compare it to Brady Games or Versus Books Guides, but I would recommend this guide to anyone I knew who needed help with the game.

3 out of 5 stars No notta this ones a NO NO!!.......2001-11-14

I think its clear now that I'm a player's guide freak being that I love them and have one for every game that I own. Anyway in comparison to VERSUS BOOKS and BRADYgames this guide is mediocre to poor.

The guide covers the game okay. Yeah it has all those items and secret missions covered and it has those fantastic 3D maps that tell you where items are located and such but as far as that goes, THE WALKTHROUGH IS DOWN RIGHT HORRIBLE!!

While maps are nice eye candy (yes I like maps just as much as the next person) to look at the walkthrough is not informative enough, and is very disorganized. Again as with VB the guide is too thin. Its like 80 pages long! Not much to get from that. Even if the VB guide was just as thin that one covered EVERYTHING where as this guide DOES NOT!!!

This guide is mainly for those who just want to get down the point and go! It completely leaves out some secrets, and you find yourself asking "What in the hell are they talking about!?"

In other words, I'd check out the guide from VB or BradyGAMES and give this a pass unless you're very desperate to get through the game.

4 out of 5 stars Good but could be better.......2001-11-14

To start off, I like the guides done by VERSUS BOOKS and I really like Casey Loe, but this guide had some problems. This is by no means a perfect guide! The only thing that makes this guide really good is its level of detail, basic training section, and complete coverage of Dante Must Die! mode.

To start off, the basic training section tells you how to work with this game and really does explain much about how to use Dante and his moves. They tell you how much Alastar and Ifrit moves cost. They even threw in a joke or two (but they weren't funny).

The walkthrough is where this guide starts to fall off though! Now I admit the walkthrough was very good, but its lay-out was a little awkward. The maps were nearly unusable. They didn't tell you where items were. They also had numbers on the map but then you had to scan the text below to know exactly what they were talking about to figure anything out. I thought the walkthrough was gonna be like this. A number displayed on the map right, and then they would tell you what to do in the text under that number, easy right? Well it felt like reading a different guide when I found that the walkthrough was a little off on some details. Also, they didn't have maps for all the areas, and they mostly seemed content with Joking around in this guide. While it DOES get you through the game there were problems along the way.

The secrets section explained all the secrets to the game. But when it told me about the hard mode, it neglected to mention that it cost more red orbs to buy items such as a Vital Star. It did help you find all the blue orb fragments but you needed to look in the section dedicated to helping you find all the blue orb fragments where as the walkthrough left you confused. The guide seem to have more screenshots than it does of words of wisdom.

However, the guide really helped me with the Dante Must Die! mode and you can use that section to find out the differences in the Hard Mode too.

Overall, this was a fairly good guide but its a twist of turn for VERSUS BOOKS as this guide was not as good as their other guides in the past. However, if you're content on getting through the game and not concerned much about the blue orb fragments then pick this up.
