Book Description
The 2007 edition of the most authoritative guide to professional baseball
America's favorite pastime has never been more popular and, for over a decade, Baseball Prospectus has been the ultimate guide to the game for fantasy players, professionals, and casual fans alike. Baseball Prospectus 2007 continues that tradition, bringing together the top young baseball writers and analysts in the business to provide a definitive look at the season to come. Featuring humorous and incisive essays on all thirty teams and an in-depth look at every major league player and all the top prospects, Baseball Prospectus 2007 offers the cutting-edge analysis that has inspired nearly every major league team to seek the advice of current or former Prospectus writers. Also included are projections of player stats for next year, as determined by the groundbreaking PECOTA system, which Sports Illustrated has called perhaps the game's most accurate projection model. The most authoritative and entertaining book of its kind, Baseball Prospectus 2007 is as essential to the baseball- watching experience as hot dogs and cold beer.
Customer Reviews:
The best.......2007-08-16
For fantasy baseball players, especially those in keeper leagues, there is nothing better. If there's nothing better, why only four stars? Because the "deadly accurate" PECOTA evaluations, though probably at least a little better than most forecasting models, can still be completely off target. No guide will be "deadly accurate."
The best feature is the extent to which this guide covers top minor leaguers. And they also translate stats from the minor leagues, (including the Mexican league), and to some extent from the Japanese league.
Another great feature is the extended review they give to each front office in the majors during the previous year. Here, the criticism really is, almost always, "deadly accurate."
Baseball Prospectus 2007.......2007-06-11
The latest in a long series of insightful, analytical reviews of major league baseball players and teams utilizing statistical analysis and other analytical techniques (e.g., econometrics). New for the 2007 edition is an analytical review of the 2006 manager for each team. Baseball Prospectus is the essential baseball reference.
Wealth of info for baseball fans........2007-05-29
This book must be kept near the TV for ready reference on all Major League players.
Another great title from Baseball Prospectus.......2007-05-07
Baseball Prospectus is the gold standard for baseball analysis. The stats are helpful, but I am especially enamored of the PECOTA projection system. This edition is much less plagued by typos than previous editions have been.
Great Info, Easy Access.......2007-04-14
Awesome information, but should include win/loss predictions for each team. Player info is in-depth. A baseball/stats fan's dream come true.

Customer Reviews:
"Must have" book.......2007-07-13
This book has invaluable information for all gun enthusiasts, not only S & W collectors. Very well written and illustrated. A "must have" book.
Indispensible.......2007-07-02
This book is indispensible to the S&W collector. It is the S&W collector's Bible. Worth three times thecost, you need to buy it right now!
Excellent reference and not a clone.......2007-05-31
The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson has proven to be a useful tool, offering better illustration of models and expanded listing of models and details over the more general guides. By comparison, the Standard Catalog provides 70 pages of Smith & Wesson listings, while the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson provides 432. The authors, Jim Supica and Richard Nahas are recognized as long standing experts in Smith and Wesson firearms, in both model identification and value.
The authors did an excellent job of identifying factors unique to S&W in value determination, including how S&W collectors might differ from others. Section One, as an example, covers S&W frame sizes and side plate screw counts, pinned and unpinned barrels and hand ejector models as they relate to model identification. Engraving is organized by artist, by time period and by source. NRA condition classifications are extended further into finish and factory refinish, modifications, serial number integrity and grips. I did not realize there was such a big market for S&W stocks. Not only are stocks addressed, but so are manuals and boxes.
The organization is good. Not appearing strictly in model number order or date of production, S&W revolvers are broken into groups such as "Tip Up", "Top Break", "Single Shot", "Early Hand Ejector", "Modern Hand Ejector", "Semi-Auto....". It really isn't so difficult for even a novice to navigate and there is a good solid model number index at the back of the book. Covered firearms are all S&W handguns through the S&W 460 and S&W 500 chambers, long guns, boxes, cases, and even AR 15 types of current production. Individual model entries are not sketchy. As an example, just one line listings of Model 10 specials and variations went on for two full pages. Model descriptions are very full, unique characteristics in product or packaging indicated, dates of production and production counts are present in each case. To some extend, branded general merchandise is also covered; knives, belt buckles, etc.
The book is an excellent value.
The Smith & Wesson Legend.......2007-05-13
All the revolvers/automatics that made Smith & Wesson famous along with the boxes/accessories that made them "complete" are shown in excellent detail. Serial/model numbers are listed with amazing accuracy along with information about the engineering changes and reason for them. A "must have" for anyone interested in these legendary firearms.
Great Book.......2007-05-13
This guide is the essential book for Smith & Wesson collectors. Written by two fellows that are always willing to respond to questions from anyone about the topic. Must reading
Customer Reviews:
This book is not what it once was........2007-04-21
This is still an okay book on baseball, but it is not the great book it once was. Where before it had mostly accurate information, it is now chock full of errors provided by the error prone Stats organization. The pictures are also gone and so is the information on the coaching staffs and managers. A better book is Baseball America's Super Register. (I have Baseball Registers going all the back to the the 1940's, so I can see exactly how far this great book has fallen.)
Players Review.......2007-04-11
A totally complete review of Major League Baseball players and an excellent reference document.
The Only Game in Town.......2007-04-06
For years the Sporting News has produced a Baseball Register, but in later years, TSN has collaborated with Stats Inc. and has turned to Fantasy fans with more info. The ratings from last year are gone this year, however. And it's still the only book of its kind. In the distant past, photos of each player, a list of hobbies, marital status and facsimile autographs were included. Those are long gone, to the detriment of the publication. A couple of years ago some idiot decided to drop info about family ties to the game. Fortunately they came back 2 years ago. This year's effort, however, contains numerous errors and omissions that I don't recall seeing before. I tried to call the publisher to ask what happened, but got no response. For many players, the positions they played in the minors are missing for some years. For others, a year out of their career is simply omitted. It's not just one or two mistakes, either. I don't know if this is the result of a fight over who keeps minor league stats or what, but it's badly in need of fixing.
Baseball Register 2007.......2007-02-19
Missed not having the scouting reviews from 2006 Fantasy Baseball Register. Otherwise stats were good has always.
Baseball Register 2007 .......2007-01-29
For Baseball fans love who Baseball stats this is the book for you. 575 pages of stats for all Players, who spent some time in MLB during the 2006 season and for 2007 managers too. I first purchased " The Baseball Register " in 1962, and it is still great, even though " The Sporting News ", the publisher of " The Baseball Register ", its weekly product is not as good as it was in the 1960's and 1970's. I would say that " The Baseball Register 2007 " is a must for all fans. One thing that the 1962 editon had that the current one doesn't, is pictures of the players, and the managers. Back then it also included the playing records of all Major League coaches. Rating - Five *****

How to Wrestle Free from an Alligator: 4. If its jaws are closed on something you want to remove (for example, a limb), tap or punch it on the snout.
Though it's being marketed as a humorous title--after all, it's unlikely you'll be called upon to land a plane, jump from a motorcycle to a moving car, or win a swordfight--the information contained in The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook is all quite sound. Authors Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht consulted numerous experts in their fields (they're cited at the end of the book) to discover how to survive various and sundry awful events. Parachute doesn't open? Your best bet for survival is to hook your arms through the straps of a fellow jumper's chute--and even then you're likely to dislocate both shoulders and break both legs. Car sinking in water? Open the window immediately to equalize pressure, then open the car door and swim to the surface. Buried in an avalanche? Spit on the snow--it will tell you which direction is really up. Then dig as fast as you can.
Each survival skill is explained in simple steps with helpful illustrations. Most stress the need to be prepared--both mentally and physically. For example, to escape from quicksand, you will need to lay a pole on the surface of the quicksand, flop on your back atop the pole, and pull your legs out one by one. No pole? No luck. "When walking in quicksand country, carry a stout pole--it will help you get out should you need to."
Hopefully you'll never need to know how to build a fire without matches, perform a tracheotomy, or treat a bullet wound. But in the words of survival evasion resistance escape instructor "Mountain" Mel Deweese, "You never know." --Sunny Delaney

The book works..........2007-07-13
I read the book. I saw a car accident. I can't go into further details because it is illegal to perform medical procedures without a degree in medicine. The boy didn't survive (he was brain dead immediately (happens when your head takes a cars bumper)) but his body did and was used to keep two other kids alive.
Laughter and Skills You Hope You Never Need.......2007-04-10
The odds may not be very good that you'll end up in some of these situations, but if you ever do, you'll be glad you read this book. If you never need these skills, then it's great for a laugh.
Entertaining.......2007-02-22
Extreme and extremely funny. Some are more plausible than others but all are thought provoking.
Really good.......2007-01-31
When I bought this book, my girlfrind and some friend where making fun of me, but as soon as one of them started reading it, he couldn't let it down and everybody was reading it. It contains information that I hope I'll never need. It's funny, but at the same time the information provided was well researched.
Great for having at your coffee table, since everyone will comment on it.
I belive it might be useful also for actual surviving....
Three Reasons To Buy This Book.......2007-01-20
One: You just might learn how to save your own life.
Two: You just might learn how to save someone else's life.
Three: You just might impress the hell out of your next date.
I like this book. It's like one of the Dummies titles devoted only to survival skills. It makes you feel like you're just a leetle bit superior to everybody else. The basics are here, but so are some of the coolest factoids, techniques, and tricks I've ever read. If someday you're in a falling elevator/locked in some pervert's trunk/facing an oncoming flash flood/freezing your epidermis off in a snow-covered SUV while driving home from a ski resort where you had a fight with your significant other who was wrong, not you, you'll be glad you bought this book and spent a day reading it. It's cool, it's fun, it's empowering, and it reminds me of someone I knew in college. (Yes, that last detail won't make you rush out and buy it, I know, but...)
Read The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and you'll feel like you're ready for anything life might throw at you!

Customer Reviews:
A Good T-Ball Reference.......2005-03-27
This was one of the books I chose for my inaugural season as a T-ball coach. In my search for reference material I've found that for as many books as there are out there for all manner of sports, books on T-ball are in short supply... good ones anyway. This book runs through coaching T-ball from beginning to end. Not just on the field stuff but pre-season, pre-game, post-game, parent relations, etc. I doubt just one book will contain all the information that a new coach needs but this one comes pretty close. If your a new coach I'm sure you will find alot in this book that will help to prepare you for the upcoming season. The reason for only 4 stars though is that I would like to see the drills and exercise section enlarged (surely the author, who is the co-founder and president of the T-ball USA association, can come up with more drills or ideas for creative learning than what is presented in this book). Overall... probably the best choice for T-ball reference I could recommend at this time.

Walking Magazine - The Complete Guide to Walking: for Health, Fitness, and Weight Loss.......2007-05-14
Do you like to walk? Are you thinking about walking as a way to get some exercise, lose weight, or to de-stress? This is the only book you will ever need. Mark Fenton is not only qualified to write this excellent guide, he has done the hard, creative work to do it. Whether you are a veteran walker, a beginner, or just thinking about the possibility of starting; this guide has so much to offer each of you.
I'm excited about walking!.......2007-04-27
I had been talking about starting a walking program for months. One of my coworkers finally bought this book for me, and it immediately lit a (figurative) fire under my butt to get me moving!
This book not only provides a 52-week guideline for increasing your activity, but it also serves as a journal to log what activity you have acheived that day. It stresses getting 6 days of at least 30 minutes of activity, but it has a 4-week plan to ease you into the 30 minutes if you've been fairly inactive before starting the program.
The author also urges you to get your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose level checked at the beginning of your 52-week program, again at 6 months, and again at the end of the program. I think that's highly responsible of the author, and was also highly motivating for me to visit my doctor for the first time in over 2 years.
THE Best Book on Walking!.......2006-08-21
I have read many books on walking, and this is by far the best. It is good for the novice or expert and contains a great progressional walking program that you can jump into at any point.
The Average minus Non-Readers is 5 Stars.......2005-10-22
Two jerks in the review pool gave the book a 1 star despite the fact they had never read it. I guess they will have to wait for the made for TV movie.
I love this book!.......2003-09-09
I've bought this book four times now, because I show my copy to a family member or friend and they get so excited about it, I give them my copy and then have to go buy another one. This is the best walking book I've ever come across, with good information for the total beginner or the experience walker who just wants some extra motivation. Buy it!

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2007-09-11
This book is among the best to be released to the general public about the many different types of Chi Kung training. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about internal cultivation and understanding a very rich part of traditional Chinese culture.
Best Qigong book in English Language.......2006-09-06
I train with Master Wen-Ching Wu and i have trained a little with Grandmaster Liang, and I have not been able to find ANY books that come close to surpassing the ones that they have written. Together they have an incredibly vast knowledge of martial arts and Qigong and share it quite willingly in their fantastic books and teachings.
Great Product and Transaction.......2006-07-10
This book is incredible. Stocked full of wisdom and useful information as promised. Perfect condition, and quickly shipped. Thank you to the seller.
Qigong Empowerment....a very good resource with the right knowledge.......2006-06-04
I bought `Qigong Empowerment' because, it "is the most unique and complete volume ever written in the English language on qigong" (quote from back cover). Other reviews tended to support this claim. So, I bought it and I am very glad I did. This book is an extensive compilation of many types of qigong exercises.
The book is good in the sense that it gives 1) a good introduction to Qigong, 2) some basics of meridians and TCM theory (with basic acupuncture charts in the appendix); 3) an encyclopedic amount of qigong exercises (medical, Daoist, Buddhist, healing, and wushu - some of which are rather hard to come by as others have already stated), and 4) some corrective methods in appendix B. This book is a great book for point three alone. By the way, some of the other reviews complain about the lack of warnings in this book. I agree that the warnings are lacking within the main text. But to be completely fair to the authors, they tell the reader in the introduction to be familiar with appendix B. A brief glance at appendix B should instill enough caution to follow instructions very precisely. The authors state that if one follows the instructions thoroughly, the practice is safe.
It is my opinion that this book is best suited for those who have an idea of personal qigong development (ie, knows the types and stages of practice and the goal of each stage). To be sure, the book is not devoid of information regarding stages and steps in qigong development, but the description is skeletal. This is fine because the authors cannot do everything in one book. For those without such background knowledge, you should consult "the Roots of Chinese Qigong" by Dr. Yang. The author discusses qigong theory in this book and the attentive reader will come out with a road map of personal qigong development. At this point, "Qigong Empowerment" and its myriads of exercises will be much more intelligible and the reader will be able to use "Qigong Empowerment" with a deeper understanding. Of course, all practice does not need to be put on hold for the beginner. Master Shou-Yu Liang provides guidance on what exercises to start for the first several months of practice. Go to Master Shou-Yu Liang's website and find the FEBRUARY/MARCH 2003 newsletter and look for "A Guideline to Beginning Qigong Training". This guideline is not presented as clearly in the book, so do consult the website. This will provide enough guidance for several months. Whilst building a solid foundation in these months, you can also read and digest the material in "Roots of Chinese Qigong".
For beginners or anyone else looking for something simpler but still very effective, I recommend Hunyuan Qigong (this is the core of my qigong practice). It has 12 exercises and all exercises can be done, and should be done, at all stages of progress. Hunyuan Qigong was developed in order to foster health and martial art ability (but not through hard qigong). By the way, I still recommend learning about theory. It will help you understand the `why' of this method as well.
To learn this form, I recommend two resources.
I) Hunyuan DVD by Chen Zhonghua - this resource gives basic instruction regarding the 12 exercises. (search for chen zhonghua's website on google as the DVD and book are not available on amazon),
II) "Hunyuan Qigong" by Feng Zhiqiang - this book will give more detailed information on each move. It is a very helpful addition to the DVD.
Anyway, there are my 2 cents.
By the way, I cannot benefit financially from anyone purchasing Chen Zhonghua's material. He is an excellent master. That is why I recommend his material.
WHAT?!.......2006-04-19
I bought this book for the buddhism section because of another review I read. I have to say I was very dissapointed. It contains almost nothing on buddhism, just a bunch of arbitrary forms and excercises with very little explanation on how this is supposed to increase your chi, and improve your metal clarity. I felt like i might as well be reading a book on voodoo. But what really put me off of this book was the section on Wushu qigong. I fail to understand the merrits of conditioning such parts of the anatomy as the solar plexis, throat, armpits, and yes, groin. Here is an excerpt;
p.256 Section 8, Groin Conditioning
Step 4. Pulling. Use both hands and grab a hold of the base of the penis, pull up and circle from right to left, 30-50 times; thenleft to right 30-50 times. Then pull forward and release 30-50 times. Next massage the dantion area until it is hot.
Step 5. Hitting with the edge of your palms and bamboo stick bundles...
I am not kidding. This is an actual excerpt. It then goes on to say that once you have conditioned your groin sufficiently you should start hitting your groin with a bamboo stick. Wow! Maybe they are not aware of the invention of the cup.
It could be that there is some information of real value in this book, but after reading this, and some of the other equally silly stuff, I couldn't see the point of wasting more time reading further.

Best resource of its kind.......2007-04-10
If you're looking for a one-volume price guide -- this is the one. Period. Forget about Beckett.
Super Catalog of Baseball Cards.......2007-02-15
An excellent and quite comprehenwive listing of baseball cards and their values. In fact there is only one set I know of, reviewed by Mr. Lemke a year ago in Sports Collectors Digest, that was not included in the catalog. Still, I would recommend it most highly.
Not all cards are listed, pages were out of order.......2007-02-10
The book is better than most, of course, but it doesn't list many cards. For example, in the 2005 issue, there were cards listed, but in the 2007 issue, those cards were removed for some reason. Plus, in my initial issue, the pages were out of order in about 100 page increments. Thank goodness Amazon replaced it for me and the second issue was correctly paged.
Disappointment .......2007-01-19
I ordered this for my baseball card collecting husband and am very disappointed because the pages are not in order. There is a very large section of pages out of sequence. It makes it very difficult for my husband to rate and price his cards. I would love to return this defective book for a correct one! Then perhaps my confidence in ordering through Amazon would be restored.
Thank you!

About as good as I see out there..........2007-01-10
The 2007 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards has the greatest breadth of any of the baseball card valuations that I've seen on the market, including Becketts. It gives approximate worth for diverse cards in Near Mint, Excellent and Very Good condition, and includes quite a range of cards from the old tobacco cards to card brands that are yet existent. There are numerous items that I'd never heard of, but have stumbled upon, and this catalog has helped 'ballpark' their worth. That being said, there are cards that I have not found within the catalog, but this has been a relatively rare occurence and has not significantly impacted my pursuance of this hobby. There is some occasional disagreement with Beckett's, which perhaps reflects a degree of relativity in value/pricing issues for cards considered by such books, but its diversity of information and almost biblical visage are impressive!
Book Description
Fitness Professional's Guide to Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Human Movement is a revolution in the field of human movement. Comprehensive and meticulous, this ground-breaking text is ideal for college courses and a must for health and fitness experts, physical therapists, and related professionals. The book uses full color to isolate and illustrate every muscle in the body. And unlike 2-dimensional anatomy posters where such detail would be impossible, each muscle's origin and insertion are shown in detail. Along with the illustrations, you'll find a description of each muscle as well as information on its joint crossings, associated body actions, blood supply, and controlling nerves. Never has learning the muscles and their associated actions and details been easier or more straight-forward.
But the free CD-ROM included with each copy of the book is what really makes this resource unique. Developed specifically as a companion to this text, the intuitive and easy-to-use PC CD-ROM applies each of the muscles and body actions described in the book to nearly 300 specific exercises. Each exercise is shown in full-motion video and demonstrated in repeatable, correct form, with complete descriptions, step-by-step instructions, and a list of the body actions used to perform each exercise. By double-clicking on any of the 65 body actions, you'll get a list of each muscle used in that action. Double-click on any of the muscles in the list, and you'll be presented with detailed information about that muscle, complete with a full-color image of the muscle that you can magnify and isolate from the surrounding muscles. It even gives you an audio clip of the correct pronunciation!
Another feature of the CD allows you to view over 100 movement related activities, from a field hockey backhand to gardening to rowing a canoe, with corresponding body actions and the same double-click to live action footage and musculoskeletal detail provided for the 300 exercises. The uses of this feature are virtually limitless and can be applied to everything from occupational therapy to ergonomic engineering.
The CD also features five four- to seven-minute video lectures by Dr. Golding on muscle basics, anatomy, soreness, and strength.
And the CD even allows you to print sixteen different skeleton illustrations for use in muscle placement exercises. It also contains 20 multiple-choice quizzes on various nomenclatures, actions and attachments; these can be taken electronically and scored instantly or printed for use in classroom exercises.
CD-ROM System Requirements: The supplemental CD-ROM is for PC based Windows platforms only. System requirements include Windows 95 to Windows XP. It will not work on Windows NT3.51 or Windows NT4 with service Pack 4 or less (though upgrading your NT system may be done easily with free downloads from Microsoft on their website). Other software requirements that generally come pre-loaded with Windows are: Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), Jet Database engine, QuickTime 4 video viewer application, and The Distributed Component Object Module (DCOM95). The program requires 235 MB of hard drive space, 64 MB or more of RAM, and a Pentium class processor of at least 133mhz.

Just OK.......2007-08-29
I got this book because of the combination of text and DVD. I had to try the CD-rom on 3 computers before I was able to install it. Once installed, I wasn't thrilled with the videos. I thought I'd get snippets of athletes in motion with audio to go with it, but it's just shots of a single person performing a muslce action multiple times(adduction, abduction, etc.) The activity examples given in the text were good, but in all I wouldn't recommend this for trying to learn muscle anatomy. Not worth the $40.
Very thorough.......2007-05-15
This book has very graphic pictures and everything is described in detail. The quizzes and the dvd were very helpful as well.
Exersise managment.......2006-08-22
This is a great book for anyone who needs a reference for the human body in design and action. It can give you an insight as to how and why each part works in an easy and efficient manner thought up by some of the best in the field of human anatomy.
Helped me to learn insertions and nerves supplying muscles.......2005-03-27
This book was wonderful for helping me get a better understanding of the muscles of the body. Being a new fitness trainer, it's really important to help my clients as much as possible. I also used another reference which was much easier to read then big anatomy and physiology textbooks. I highly recommend "Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology" by Patrick Leonardi. This book gets to the point and explains the muscles, bones, nerves and blood supply of the body in reader-friendly language. Both books helped me very much to get a better understanding of the body.
How can there be missing pictures?.......2004-12-28
The diagrams are a little too schematic, showing some muscle bellies well displaced from their actual positions. What's worse is that the software doesn't have any pictures available for many of the muscles listed. There was also at least one difference from Gray's Anatomy that I think Gray got right and this book didn't. If I'd been able to try this before buying, I wouldn't have bought it.

Camping with the Corp of Engineers.......2007-05-14
It was in good shape when it arrived and it looks like it will be very helpful as we tour America this coming camping season.
Camping with the Army Corps of Engineers.......2006-08-01
A unique feature of this small book is its tight list of Army Corps of Engineer Campsites that are not found in many other directories or guidebooks. This guide will tell you if the campsite is located near a big city like Atlanta or in a rural area. Organized by state, maps of your destination area are a helpful adjunct. As the name implies, most facilities are located near a body of water. Some tend to be more family oriented, others are described as hideaways--peaceful locations where you can commune with nature. The book provides good directions from major highways and clear information about the campsites. (Most list amenities, such as electric, water and dump stations.) This is a useful tool to have with you on any trip. Coming upon one of these sites can be a wonderful diversion. D. Brandley
Camping resourse.......2006-02-24
As a retired Corps of Engineer officer and a new RVer, I found this book interesting and helpful in planning for trips.
We have not camped at one of the Corps sites yet, but have visited a couple recently and found the book to accurately describe the ones we have visited.
Great for RVers.......2005-11-21
This book is a "must have" for RVers and campers. I can't think of any other source that has all this information in one place, and easy to find.
Great data ..........2005-08-02
Here's a book that would have made a great spreadsheet. There's a lot of data here, displayed via a string of pictographs. Text in this book serves to provide directions only.
I would have rated this higher if it provided a little background on the location, the history, geographic features, etc.
