American Chopper.......2007-09-28
After watching the show since it was first on. It's safe to say that I love American Chopper and the Teutels. This book is a great look into the history of this family, and it's workers. If you like the show, you'll like the book.
I love American Chopper.......2007-09-07
I think a normal down to Hearth family you will not find after reading this book.
I love the dysfunctional family and that at the end what remains is their love for each other and the creativity on their motorcycles.
stupid mistakes mar enjoyable book.......2007-06-15
It's disappointing and disturbing that three Teutuls plus two Zimmermans and an additional army of fact checkers and editors at Warner Books could let obvious errors get printed.
On page 11, Paul Senior talks about his parents charging people to park in their driveway on Cooper Street in Yonkers, to watch horse races in Yonkers Raceway or baseball games in Yankee stadium, which were within "walking distance."
While the track is just a few blocks away, the stadium is about 8.5 miles south. The 17 mile round trip is not "walking distance" for most people. I hope he calculates more precisely while building bikes.
Twice on page 15, Senior mentions his house in "Muncie", New York. Muncie is in Indiana. The Teutuls lived in MONSEY (which is pronounced like Muncie).
There are probably more errors, but I just started reading the book.
Orange County Choppers.......2007-05-12
Eveything you wanted to know about Paul Sr, Jr. Mikey and the rest of the boys at OCC. Great pictures of the bikes and how they built them and facts and information about the rest of the guys that work there. Love the book.
The audio production brings their tale to life........2007-04-11
Paul Teutul Sr., Paul Teutul and Michael Teutul work with Keith and Kent Zimmerman in ORANGE COUNTY CHOPPERS, follows a dysfunctional family's family endeavors of producing artistic and striking 'choppers' in their shop, and receives the familiar and famous voice of Todd McLaren as it examines the Teutul's life story. You needn't have familiarity with the TV show to appreciate this autobiography of family members in conflict; but what does help is an affection and appreciation for 'chopper' bikes and family interactions, which spices the appealing story of a 'wild family' which comes together to produce outstanding bikes. The audio production brings their tale to life.
Book Description
Billy Lane is the fastest-rising star among the high-profile custom chopper builders, and in this book he offers many of his secrets for building a chopper that will stand out in a crowd. This is the ultimate resource for any chopper builder, a book designed as a step-by-step guide to building any type of custom motorcycle. This book also covers custom-building beyond the chopper genre. Including the building of bobbers, an old-school style of custom that has been revived as a hot trend. Predating choppers, they are on the cutting edge of current biker cool, for real riding, and much safer and more functional than choppers.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent feqture book........2007-05-17
Lots of pictures and easy to understand. Complete detail from end to end. It is however a little for the more skilled reader and builder. I enjoyed and learned form it.
WAY too complicated.......2007-04-10
There is way too much in the way of welding skills and sheet metal fabrication. Certainly not a "How To" book but more of a "How I do it" book.
Billy Bob.......2007-03-21
This is not a "how to build a chopper" book. It is a "how Billy L builds this or that, and sometimes 'why'". I've been out of the chop scene since my youth, so the info contained I found very interesting in a general sense and quite inspiring too. Quite a good book, but not great. If you like Billy's style of bike, buy this book. I certainly don't regreat buying it.
Give me a break.......2007-03-02
Unbelievable. If you're some girly boy or have a crush on "Billy" I'm guessing you'll be impressed. If you make your living with tools you'll have wasted your money.
Loved It.......2007-01-11
I thought there was good info and tips in this book. There are lots of good, clear pictures. I recommend it!
Book Description
A great chopper is not built. It is created. It begins as the seed of an idea germinating in the mind of its creator. Bit by bit, the builder brings the machine to life, raking and stretching the frame, fabricating fenders and a gas tank, applying exquisite paint, sculpting something that lives and breathes on its own. Choppers, one of the most enduring symbols from the 1960s, are more prevalent than ever. First published in 2003 (Motorbooks Int'l) to great acclaim, and reissued in 2005, Art of the Chopper (Bulfinch Press) profiled 20 of today's top chopper builders. As a sequel, ART OF THE CHOPPER II profiles 21 more builders and artists, including builders well known to chopper fans such as the legendary Indian Larry, auteur Gard Hollinger, and non-professionals such as Staten Island's own Mike Pugliese. Zimberoff's engaging text provides an in-depth analysis of the each designer's philosophy and unique style. A foreword by James Hetfield also accompanies the almost 600 images.
Customer Reviews:
All text, no photos.......2007-06-27
Zimberoff is an excellent photographer. Unfortunately he's not much of a writer, something someone should have pointed out when he created this book. This book features very little of the photography that made the original Art of the Chopper so exciting, replacing it with Zimberoff's self-indulgent and self-aggrandizing writing. I was excited about this book, but once I saw it, I decided to wait for it to hit the half-price bookstores and bargain shelves, and even then I might skip it.
Chopper art.......2007-03-21
I really enjoyed this book. Not being a regular reader of chopper mags, I knew little about the builders covered in the book and found the background info very interesting. Infact, there is more relevant info regarding the death of Indian Larry here than in the "Chopper Shaman". Stunning photography and a great range of bike styles. This is a great book that I will enjoy everytime I pick it up. Trying to match up the inside sleeve shots with the bikes covered inside is interesting too.

Customer Reviews:
Great gift for American Chopper fans!.......2005-09-21
My nephew lives and breathes this show. He absolutely loved the book.
Flippin' pages on the OCC.......2005-08-29
For starters, you wouldn't be considering buying this book unless you were a fan of the show and liked to watch the antics of the OCC boys as much as see the bikes they build. I don't own a motorbike or have my motorbike license (yet) but American Chopper is one of my favourite shows on TV.
The book is fairly similar to the program itself, great eye candy and very entertaining, as a lot of the show's memorable moments are carried through into the book. Perhaps the most interesting parts of the book are the brief history and bio of all the major characters of the show and number of detail photographs of the bikes they build.
The bio's add another level of enjoyment when you're watching the show because you feel like you know the guys a little better, understand a bit more of what drives them and in Sr's case, what aggravates him the most!
Don't buy this book if you're looking for comprehensive technical detail or specifications and construction methods of the bikes. There is some further detail on the theme bikes (engine, wheels, construction, paint etc), but the information is really there to compliment the pictures of each of the bikes.
The pictures are definitely a feature of the book, because things move too quickly in the show for you to really sit down and just marvel at all the details of the bikes. Being able to look over the bikes in my own time gave me a greater appreciation for the aesthetics of what is really mobile art. These bikes are not utilitarian by any means, and for those of us not living in the USA or unlikely to be able to ever see one of these bikes first hand, the book is a way to get a little dose of American Chopper without being around a TV, and deserves a space on any fan's bookshelf.
WANNNABE MANUAL! FOR SIDEWALK COMMANDOS EVERYWHERE!.......2005-06-04
Speaking on the authority of a REAL Biker who has LIVED the Lifestyle for over 35 of my almost 53 years, during which I have ridden the same '63 Harley Panhead, (which I built and rebuilt from the ground up with my own two hands), longer than the Turtle Kids have EVEN been alive, My Brothers and I all find Orange County Chumps to be some of the Funniest Comedy ANYWHERE! Their Ol' Man is one of the greatest comedians to try and call himself a "SELF-PROCLAIMED biker"; seemingly, the only thing that HE works at is running his MOUTH! What little I have been able to watch of this show without developing acute nausea, I have NEVER seen Turtle, Sr. EVER pick up a tool or lend a hand to help anyone at ANYTHING.
The bikes built by OCC may have some eye appeal, but are otherwise a waste of parts & labor, as they are totally unridable; you would need an entire parking lot to turn one of them around, and the spider bike in particular, with its ridiculous rear fender, would give you a radical shower if one attempted to ride it on wet pavement, much less in the rain!(And I would LOVE to know what company sells them INSURANCE!)
My Brothers and I have long debated which is more hilarious, the Turtles, with their hour long screaming matches, or the sidewalk commandos who give the mighty OCC free advertising, running around with WANNABE T-shirts & other gear, none of whom OWN, or probably even KNOW HOW to ride a MOTORCYCLE! Only Hang-arounds and Wannabees worship these comedians; REAL Bikers only LAUGH at them!
As far as other reviewers who are so critical of my well earned opinion are concerned, just read their other reviews (if they have any)!
At least Jesse James RIDES his creations to shows! The Turtles TRAILER Theirs everwhere (and then have to FLY IN their mechanics when one of their monstrosities breaks down!) JESSE JAMES may be terminally commercial, but at least he's HONEST!
Hooray for the Teutels.......2005-01-20
For anyone that loves the show, this book is a great way to delve into the history and details that make the Teutels who they are...vulgar yet charismatic, tough yet endearing. It always seems as though you never get to see enough of the bikes they build, but with this book, you see every minute detail complete with a "how they did it" approach. I love the Teutels and enjoyed learning more about their personal histories and pet peeves. It makes watching their show even more interesting.

Customer Reviews:
A book highly recommended for any library collection.......2007-02-03
These 'chopper' bikes are anything but ordinary: indeed, they're a pick for those serious about biking. OLD SCHOOL CHOPPERS: NO-FRILLS BIKES FOR REAL BIKERS offers up old versions of Harley-Davidsons, Indians and others. Many were dreams that builders brought to life, customizing originals until they were nearly unrecognizable. Numerous color photos depicting all angles of the bikes are accompanied by technical specs in a book highly recommended for any library collection with motorcycle fans as patrons.
Book Description
A stunt man and side show performer made famous by the Discovery Channel, Indian Larry Desmedt is best remembered for his remarkable custom motorcycles, his wild tattoos, and his love for building and riding rolling art. This book, by those who knew him best, offers a closer look at the life that made Larry into the chopper shaman so many admired. Full of photographs that document a uniquely colorful life, the book follows Larry from his humble beginnings to his unlikely stardom, tracing his short career as a bank robber, his time in prison, his spiral downward into heroin addiction, and his rebirth in 1994 as the spiritual bike builder revered by so manyand running through it all, the love of hot rods and motorcycles that finally brought him happiness. Why was he nicknamed Indian Larry? Because early in his career, he ceaselessly rode his Indian Motorcycles through the street of New York City.
Customer Reviews:
Influential Larry.......2007-03-22
Larry was happy being who he was. He states as much in his interviews during his Biker Build Off episodes. I feel the author of this book forgets that and puts Larry high on this pedestal where Larry never wanted to be. His bikes was his art and he appreciated his fans that wanted to see it. What made him unique is that he was kind, caring and considerate. Traits that one hardly ever sees in a person, especially all at one time. This book does Larry justice when telling his story from boyhood to bikehood but loses its flavor when the author throws in his collegiate words to make his point on how great Larry was. Larry seemed, to me, like he was a simple man who wanted simple things and, to put it simply, wanted to share his art with those who would appreciate it. Long story short, this is a good book with a good read and some great photos.
Chopper Showman.......2007-03-21
This book could have had half the number of pages. The focus is on the spiritual (indian?) side of Larry. It does paint an interesting picture of what he was like, but I found the comments of other builders in Art of the Chopper II more relevant. The recurring theme of life's mysteries and how they influenced Larry went on and on. It became a bit much. Nearly ruined a reasonable read.
Be Entertained!.......2007-01-17
Purchased as a gift, full of great yarns & photo's, for the right person this is a great buy! Enjoy!
Indian Larry Chopper Shaman.......2007-01-06
This book has a very unique writing style, which helps you see just how influential Indian Larry was, and how much of an impact he made on his close friends. It was an excellent fun read, that was very enjoyable. I know I'll read it more than once. I recomend it to anyone that needs a hero, or inspiration.
A Fitting Tribute .......2006-08-20
This is without a doubt one of the most thorough and balanced biographies I've ever read. It covers everything, from Indian Larry's troubled past, to his path out of "Hell University," to his well-deserved rise to fame as one of the best original chopper builders ever. There's tons of tributes from his peers and friends, and plenty of pictures documenting it all. I highly recommend this book to everyone who liked the man, and especially to those who can appreciate the motorcycle as he did - as a true work of art.
Book Description
The hit television series American Chopper portrays the tension, tirades, and triumphs of the father-and-son team of custom motorcycle builders known as Orange County Choppers. The show captures the family dynamics and fiery exchanges, showcasing the pair's contrasting styles but similar passions as they create remarkable, one-of-a-kind motorcycles. Similarly, American Chopper, the book, portrays the fruits of their labor: the highly sought-after, distinctive bikes themselves. In an engaging, informative style, the book details the history of custom motorcycles and what it takes to build a custom bike the tools and fabricators and the blending of artistic vision with iron, chrome, and steel. Photographed specifically for this book, more than 25 of O.C.C.'s custom choppers including the show's famous "Black Widow," "Jet Bike," "Comanche," "Mikey's Bike," and "Fire Bike" are handsomely displayed and photographed with many beautifully detailed shots.
Customer Reviews:
DAVID MANN will be proud.......2005-11-06
This is a must-buy for all OCC fans and for bikers alike. Wow, I must say this book encompasses what OCC has done and their contribution to the world of custom bikes. Not only that this book have featured their custom bikes and the story behind it, but it also has provided the readers the history of motorcycles, Sturgis, etc. It also has wonderful photos of their bikes like the Liberty Bike, Jet Bike, Caterpillar Bike, etc. Make David Mann prud and buy this book.
Book Description
Choppers don't have to cost thirty thousand dollars. In fact, a chopper built at home can be had for as little as five thousand dollars. The key is the use of a donor bike for most of the components. How to Build a Cheap Chopper documents the construction of four inexpensive choppers with complete start-to-finish photo sequences. Least expensive is the metric chopper, based on a 1970s vintage Japanese four-cylinder engine and transmission installed in a hardtail frame. Don't look for billet accessories or a fancy candy paint job on this one. Next up, price wise, are two bikes built using Buell/Sportster drivetrains. The fact is, a complete used Buell or Sportster can be had for five thou or less. Now you've got more than an engine you have wheels and tires, brakes, hardware, lights, harness, and some sheet metal. Bolt all that stuff to a simple hardtail frame to create an almost-instant chopper. Most lavish, but still cheap by comparison with many of the bikes built today, is a big twin chopper built from carefully chosen aftermarket parts. A RevTech engine and five-speed tranny set in a Rolling Thunder frame. Accessorize from the swap meet and add a simple one-color paint job to create a bike no one needs to be ashamed of.

Basic Information.......2007-01-24
Not the best book on the subject. Lots of nice photos though.
How to Build a Cheap Chopper.......2007-01-11
Very good book, so much so I plan to use the advice to build a bike similar to one in the book.
A good alternative to spending large sums on other types of bikes.
good ideas but limited space........2006-11-05
This book is filled with some good ideas, but rather limited on the space allowed (the flaw with all books). I would have liked to see a little more depth on the metrics with a little less of the kit bike ads, but section on the 'Redneck' choppers was worth the price. I was disappointed with the photos of the finished products (especially the metrics) but overall a good book for ideas.
Nice Starter Book.......2005-10-27
This book is great it has lots for full color photos on 5 builds. One thing that I didnt like is the fact that it is more of a basic how to do a basic chop. Dont think that you will get this book and have a $5000.00 chopper in a week. The guys in the book are all pros and get hooked up alot easier than I could ever do. I cant go in the shop and bang out a tank for the cost of the sheet metal. But it gives you a general idea of where to start. IF you have never done a project like this and just want to know where to get started, its is worth the money.
American Chopper might be entertainment, but doesnt teach you shit.......2005-08-27
This book describes the technicalities of a chopper bike in laymen's terms such as angles, engines, etc. The difference between buying frames and making up your own frames, and what is good and bad as a rule of thumb. Book is great if you just want to know about choppers or actually thinking of building your own from parts or from scratch. I now understand what questions to ask about kit parts and handling/power considerations.
Book Description
Roaring into mainstream consciousness with their rakish style and V-twin power, choppers have captured the publics fascination. Now, best-selling Motorbooks author and award-winning car designer Thom Taylor shows enthusiasts of all artistic levels how to draw these rolling heavy-metal sculptures, whether for fun or as concepts for their own dream bikes. After a brief history of the chopper, Thom covers the selection of tools and equipment before explaining fundamentals like perspective, proportion, reflections, and shadows. With the building blocks for a successful chopper drawing in place, Thom goes on to selecting a color palette, finding your own technique, and adding people to your drawings. Also included are chapters on cartooning and the role computers can play in your art. In addition to Taylors own work, How to Draw Choppers Like a Pro features art from several other well-known motorcycle artistsincluding Ed Newton, Dave Deal, Tom Fritz, and Keith Weesnernot to mention a foreword by the godfather of modern choppers, Arlen Ness.

bike drawing for any level of artist.......2006-11-03
This book is perfect for an entry level artist as well as someone who has been drawing for some time. I've been sketching choppers for a long time, more seriously in the last few years, and I'm thrilled to see how much this has to offer me in the way of disciplining my process.
It also covers the basics such as perspective, bike construction, and other aspects that are of value to anyone interested in drawing bikes. This is true for the fine artist/painter, the cartoonist, or the enthusiast who wants to develop a hobby in drawing bikes.

Book Description
Nicknamed "Mini-Man" for his diminutive statute, a mere five-foot-three and 125 lbs in his flight boots, chopper pilot Ron Alexander proved to be a giant in the eyes of the men he rescued from the jungles and paddies of Vietnam. With an unswerving concern for every American soldier trapped by enemy fire, and a fearlessness that became legendary, Ron Alexander earned enough official praise to become the second most decorated helicopter pilot of the Vietnam era. Yet, for Ron, the real reward came from plucking his fellow soldiers from harm's way, giving them another chance to get home alive. In Taking Fire, Alexander and acclaimed military writer Charles Sasser, transport you right into the cramped cockpit of a Huey on patrol, offering a bird's eye view on the Vietnam conflict. Packed with riveting action and gritty "you-are-there" dialogue, this outstanding book celebrates the everyday heroism of the chopper pilots of Vietnam.AUTHORBIO: Ron Alexander was the second most decorated helicopter pilot of the Vietnam era, having earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star with "V" for valor and oak leaf cluster, an Army Commendation Medal with "V" and two oak leaf clusters, and twenty-six additional Air Medals, each with a "V." Taking Fire.......2007-08-16
As a former Army helicopter pilot in Vietnam, I could appreciate and understand where Ron was coming from. His experience paralleled mine in several ways. Recommended reading for those who want to know what a Vietnam helicopter pilot's life was like.
Apparently exaggerated, but definitely unoriginal........2006-03-20
If you liked Chickenhawk, by Robert Mason, you don't have to read this book by Alexander and Sasser, because you already read the good bits, which were copied word-for-word from Chickenhawk. Check out the Wikipedia article on Chickenhawk for the low-down.
Bologna.......2006-02-26
As the aviation columnist for the 1st Cav's newpaper, SABER, I would describe this book as bologna, for lack of a more vulgar term. "Most highly decorated American helicopter pilots of the Vietnam War" I think not.
He was there.......2005-08-06
One of the best true Vietnam stories in a long time. The sort of book you can't put down till you finish it.
A work of Fiction.......2005-04-21
As someone who spent 2.5 years in RVN (one year as a crewchief/gunner) and a lifetime career in aviation as a F/W Commerical Pilot and A&P mechanic (most of that on Bell Helicopters), I found this book disappointing. In fact the book belongs in the FICTION Catagory. There were so many discrepancies in the book I don't know where to begin. But I will say this, I NEVER had any doubt in my mind when I was being shot at. And I didn't have to hear a "ping" to know it. The sound of a close 7.62 will get your attention and a 12.7 mm will scare the s**t out of you. Perhaps the Capt. has told so many war stories he began to believe them himself but for someone who was there and did that, his war stories are BS.
