Story Behind the Book

“As I was writing For Women Only to help women understand the inner lives of men, over and over I heard that men wished there was a way to understand their wives, but they felt it was probably impossible. I heard from them, ‘You are writing this little slim volume about men, but if it was about understanding women, it would have to be the size of an encyclopedia! Women are random and complicated!’ These men were surprised and encouraged when I assured them that women are neither random nor complicated, and we can be understood. Men just want to love their wives well, and For Men Only will help them do that.”

I got this book at a friend's recommendation. I'm getting married soon and I was hoping for some help. The book was very helpful and informative. I liked it for not being biased or a 10 step program. It's literally straightforward information on how most women think. It's already drastically altered the way I relate to my fiancée and it's helped us grow closer together. I'd recommend it to any man that wants a better relationship with his lady. This is a great book to help newlyweds get started out on the right foot.

5 out of 5 stars Undserstanding a Woman.......2007-09-21

The Feldhahn's bring humor and wisdom into an amazingly complex topic - understanding a woman. While my wife certainly is mysterious to say the least, this book provided insights into why she says what she says, reacts the way she does to my words, and what I have done to build walls that she gave up trying to climb. I found that many of her problems could be influenced for the better by my willingness to understand her and speak to her on her terms. This book has helped me help my wife love me more fully. Humble yourself and read it!!

Great book on the inner lives of women. Read this with your significant other and it will bring you closer. It is written from a Christian perspective, but this is not overly apparent.

Great book! 5 stars!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Wedding Book!.......2007-09-07

Ok, so I admit that I read some of my husband's book titled "For Men Only". It's his own fault for leaving it next to the toilet.

We received these as wedding gifts awhile back. I was really curious to see if what it said was true. I have to say that it actually provided some great insight into my own thoughts and feelings and legitimized my feelings for certain issues that have arisen in our relationship. I'd have to say that in my opinion this is a great book to help men understand the average woman. Men, if you've ever thought "That girl is ka-razy!", then this is the book for you!

Two thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars From a Woman.......2007-09-05

I read For Women Only and then read For Men Only and I loved it. While For Women Only provided much insight, this book provided a much needed sense of freedom to be a woman. For a long time, I had assumed that much of my personality traits were not good, but it was b/c my traits were different than guys and were not understood by the guys in my life. In reading the book, I began to understand that I was not crazy just a woman :)

    Book Description

Focusing on quality of life, this text defines what a social problem is and then addresses specific issues—for example, how can one gain a sociological understanding of social problems? What kinds of critical thinking should one engage in and what kinds should one avoid in attempting to understand social problems? How is the quality of one's life affected by particular problems? What causes these problems and how can we resolve them? Part One establishes key approaches to social problems; the remaining parts discuss the social problems that most acutely impact the quality of our lives.

As Alicia stages her take over to become an alpha, her and her BFF, Massie drift apart and the two find themselves in a raging, war of who has the better hold on their Clique. This book tells an amazing story of what a clique can do to crush you if you get in their way. After this book I was definitely hooked to the Clique series.

The clique in this book consists of four girls, Massie, the clique leader, Alicia, who trys to be independent, Dylan, the weight watcher, and Kristen, who competes for guys. Then there is Claire. She wants to be in, but she is still out of the clique, at least for now. The school has a uniform competition to decide what the uniform will lood like. Will Kristen betray her best friends just to win the competition? Will she break away from the clique? Find out when you read Best Friends for Never

5 out of 5 stars Best Friends For Never <3.......2007-05-23

This book is the sequel to the Clique. In this book, Massie finds out that a girl from school is hosting the FIRST "girl-boy party". Massie wants to be the girl that people remember, so Massie hosts the first "girl-boy party" before the other girl does. At the party things didn't go too well with the 4 best friends. Alicia started hanging out with a girl named Olivia. Kirsten and Dylan were fighting over a boy who didn't like either of them. Then Massie was just stuck in the middle of it. After the party Alicia didn't hang out with the other three girls anymore, and the girls started to hate her. I thought this was a good book because it kept you interested the whole time, and I can always relate to all of the girls!

    5 out of 5 stars Book review.......2007-03-30

Massie Block is the most popular seventh grader at OCD and to prove it she throws the first boy/girl Halloween party even if it was somebody else's idea. However, her parents are making her throw the party with the wannabe new girl, Claire, from Orlando that is staying in her guesthouse. Also, they are making her invite the entire seventh grade! The story starts off with Claire and Massie making a bet, Massie can't go shopping and Clair can't were the same outfit twice. After Massie and her three popular best friends Dylan, Kristen, and Alicia find their costumes, Massie wears the Dirty Devil Halloween costume to school on Halloween, and brings Dylan's, Alicia's and Kristen's for them to change into but purposely forgets Claries. After everyone saw there costumes they wanted to be just like them, so also cut there shirts and wore short skirts. However, the principal was furious and decided the school needed uniforms. Massie suggests to the fashion teacher that the school holds a design contest and who ever has the best idea will be the uniform designer. Dylan decides to ditch the clique and work on the project with her new friend Olivia. After the contest is held, both there groups end up being the final two. The results are announced and Dylan's team wins. Massie noticed that the nametags had been switched and really they had won. She decides to do nothing about it and wait for the right moment to get back at her. "Best Friends for Never" by Lisi Harrison is an excellent book I would definitely recommend!

One of the reasons I would recommend this novel is because it deals with real life situations that typical middle school kids face everyday such as friend ship, popularity, and crushes. For example Clair is having a hard time fitting in after just moving also the characters faces difficult events like when Kirsten and Dylan like the same guy and Massie and Clair make a bet.

Another reason enjoyed this book was because it taught the reader to keep your friends close. At the party, Dylan made a new friend Olivia and hung with her ever since. The pretty committee, as several people at school called them, always had a sleepover every Friday. One Friday Dylan said she needed to hang out with Olivia so they could finish their uniform designs. Nobody had missed the sleepover in over a year, and the Clique has very angered that she ditched them. Clair also almost became part of the group and decided to ditch her first real and true friend she had met and OCD, Layne Abelby.

Another reason I liked this book was because it was hilarious! One of the funniest parts was when Todd, Clair's little brother who is only ten, started to have a crush on Massie. He always talked about how she was his baby and the most beautiful girl in the world. It was also funny how Todd was the one who stole Massie's first kiss when she was hoping it would be Cam Fisher who secretly liked Clair. The Girls also do mean and funny things to humiliate one another all the time. Massie always has rude but unique comebacks to say to people especially Clair.

Best Friends for Never is an excellent well written novel that I would highly recommend. They will want to keep reading to see what dramatic event happens next to Massie and the rest of her friends! If you want a book about sneaky plans and how some girls will do anything to become popular I would defiantly recommend this novel.

    Book Description

There is a war going on for the future of our country. Most people know that. What they may not know is that if Christians lose, the result won’t merely be enduring public policy we disagree with—it will be a prison sentence for those who oppose it. We’ve all seen the attack coming. First the Supreme Court said kids can’t pray in school. Then the Ten Commandments were ripped from the classrooms. Now pastors are being removed from their pulpits and put in jail for speaking out against homosexuality (Sweden). And things are only getting worse. How in the world did we get to this place? And why is it that Christians are singled out in this assault on morality? Serving as a wake-up call for America, this book will expose the truth that Christianity is being criminalized—and that we must stand up against it now .

    BACK COVER

    [Head]

“You Have the Right to Remain Silent…”

Which of the following actually happened in America ? A man is fired for displaying Bible verses in his work space. A judge orders a mother not to teach her daughter anything that could be considered “homophobic.” High school students are trained to roam the halls in search of verbal “offenses” to report to law enforcement officers. A pastor faces a prison sentence for reading from the Bible. All of the above.

    [In smaller point size]:

    ANSWER:

    [PRINTED UPSIDE DOWN]:

    E) All of the above. Here’s where: A) Idaho , B) Colorado, C) West Virginia, and D) Pennsylvania .

[back to normal body copy sized font]:

As a Christian in this country, you may be understandably reluctant to speak out on moral issues like abortion, homosexuality, or pornography. But while we have the right to remain silent, that’s not what God calls us to do.

Because if the world can silence the truth, it will silence the gospel.

Don’t believe it? Read this book.

    INSIDE LEFT FLAP:

(to wrap to back flap if more space is needed):

    The Agenda to
    Silence the Church

In The Criminalization of Christianity, Janet Folger presents a well documented and frightening road map of how Christianity is slowly becoming against the law in America . The movement to ban public prayer and to ban public displays of the Ten Commandments or of any other Christian symbols was only the beginning. She shows convincingly how the ultimate aim is to make Christianity against the law.

The Criminalization of Christianity explains where the threat is coming from and suggests what we as Christians can do to preserve our rights.

    — William J. Murray, Chairman Religious Freedom Coalition
Son of Madalyn Murray O’Hair, plaintiff in a case to remove school prayer

    [Start of body copy]:

People in New York are fired from their jobs. Kids in California are suspended from school. Pastors in Sweden are sentenced to prison. Their crime involves nothing more than exercising their religious freedoms.

At first the attacks against Christianity were subtle. The Supreme Court ruled that children can’t pray in school. The Ten Commandments were removed from our classrooms and, later, our courtrooms. Now pastors are being imprisoned for speaking out against homosexuality from their own pulpits.

How in the world did we get to this place in a “free” and civilized society? And how far will it go?

While headlines reveal a gradual undermining of moral values in our society, the truth between those lines silently screams that our very freedom is at stake. Now this provocative book exposes the attack on values for what it is: a pointed war being waged against Christians and the faith they profess.

A frequent guest on such programs as 20/20, Hannity and Colmes, Hardball, and Inside Politics, conservative advocate Janet Folger uncovers the hidden anti-Christian agendas that are driving public policy, key court decisions, public school regulations, political correctness in the media, and modern-day censorship.

The question is, how will you respond? At a time when upholding traditional values has somehow become synonymous with “intolerance,” will you rise up and defend your religious freedoms —before it’s too late?

    Story Behind the Book

In 1997, Janet Folger heard a speech by Bob Knight of the Family Research Council in which Knight said that the ultimate goal of the homosexual movement was the criminalization of Christianity. At the time, Janet considered his comment to be an overstatement. But then she watched, listened, and learned. Now pastors in Sweden are being thrown into prison for speaking against homosexuality from their own pulpits. Canadians are being fined tens of thousands of dollars for refusing to print materials they are morally opposed to. Can an intensified assault in the U.S. be far behind?

I mean it. They'll chop off your head if you disagree with them. Wait! That's not Christianity. That's some other religion.

Well, they have a plan for taking over the world and focing everyone to become Christians. No, that's not it. That's another religion.

Well, I'm sure they believe that if they die fighting to spread Christianity, they'll get seventy virgins. No. That's that other religion I can't think of the name of.

But I'm sure if you don't convert to Christianity, you'll be forced to pay most of your income as a tax to the Christian church. No. I heard that somewhere else.

I just can't think of the name of that other religion. Teacher said we weren't supposed to mention its name. It was okay to mention Christianity though, as long as we had something bad to say about it.

I guess I'm just confused. But everybody knows that Christians are bad people and that Christianity is just about the worst thing that ever happened.

Christians get out of your Bible bunkers. These people mean business and if you don't stand up for The Word, you'll fall down to the lies.

    5 out of 5 stars Truth overdue.......2006-11-08

Immediatley the reader is struck with the straight foward manner the facts are presented. It is one thing to think the things presented in this treatise, it is quite another to back them up with research and hands-on experience. I tire of hyperbole and twisted tales design to postulate a personal agenda. That is why I read Criminalization of Christianity. It did not resort to manipulation of emotions to sell books. It did not lash out at any undeserving faction. It did not resort to bigotry or hatred. Instead the book lays out stunning reality that should make us stand up and shout it out - I have had enough!

Thanks to a courageous Janet Folger we can join together and fight the good fight.

5 out of 5 stars To Arms! Wake up, Christendom!.......2006-09-19

Thank God for people like Janet Folger, David Kupelian (Author of "The Marketing of Evil") and others, who use their pens as clarion calls to those of us who love God, our country and our right to religious freedom...FOR NOW!

We must either wake up and take action, or accept the fact that, by remaining silent, we assist those who pave the way straight to Hell using stones of Political Correctness.

5 out of 5 stars Christians, wake up!.......2006-07-19

Wow! I had no idea how serious it is that we are losing religious freedoms left and right and are remaining silent. Janet Folger cites case upon case of instances when Christians were discriminated against and even forced to choose between ceasing to exist as a business or supporting the homosexual agenda.

Right now it's abortion and the homosexual agenda that are causing Chrisians to lose their freedoms. But if we don't stand up and fight, it won't be long before sharing the gospel or even owing a Bible might land us in jail.

I highly recommend this book for individuals but especially for churches and group studies. I think it would have been nice if the author had included group discussion questions for each chapter, but you can still use the book in a weekly Bible study, discussing a chapter per week and determining what your church or group is going to do to fight the criminalization of Christianity. A lot of research went into this book, and it reads well--not like a law textbook. Many thanks to the author for writing it!

    Book Description

In a powerful new book, evangelical theologian and former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Jack Rogers argues unequivocally for equal rights in the church and in society for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Throughout history, he observes, Christianity has moved towards ever greater openness and inclusiveness. Today's church is led by many of those who were once cast out: people of color, women, and divorced and remarried people. He argues that when we interpret the Bible through the lens of Jesus' redemptive life and ministry, we see that the church is called to grant equal rights to all people. Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality describes Rogers' own change of mind and heart on the issue; charts the church's well-documented history of using biblical passages to oppress marginalized groups; argues for a Christ-centered reading of Scripture; debunks oft-repeated stereotypes about gays and lesbians; and concludes with ideas for how the church can heal itself and move forward again. A fascinating combination of personal narrative, theology, and church history, this book is essential reading for all concerned with the future of the church and the health of the nation. "This is an extraordinary book, arguably the best to appear in the long, drawn-out debates within churches over homosexuality," says J. Philip Wogaman, former senior minister at Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. "Rogers book will be useful to people of ALL mainline denomination..." says the Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson, Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire. "For those who truly wish to know what the Bible does and does not say, this is a real find."

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Author gets Barth wrong.......2007-09-19

This book has much to commend it, but the author's summary of Barth on male-female relationships (and his subsequent rejection of same-gender love) disregards Barth scholarship of the past 10 years, and is a superficial reading of Church Dogmatics in any case. A brief conversation with George Hunsinger at Princeton--one of the leading Barth scholars in North America--would have cleared this up and resulted, I think, in a very different argument. Eberhard Busch, Barth's longtime secretary and a respected theologian in his own right, would also have been helpful.

Barth, in the last months of his life, dictated a letter to a pastor struggling with the issue of homosexuality, in which he said that while he was too old to give the issue the attention it deserved, he suspected that if he were to rewrite the offending paragraphs in Church Dogmatics III.4, he would have said that homosexual relationships, too, shared in "freedom for community." That comment is brief, but striking, since "freedom for community" is precisely the divine gift in which heterosexual married partners participate, according to Barth.

To argue that Barth believed that the male or female is incomplete without the other does not mean that Barth concluded heterosexual marriage was normative for everyone. In fact, in the context of Protestant theology in the early 50s when Barth wrote III.4, he rather boldly praised vocational celibacy and reminded the reader that Jesus had no wife. Therefore, if Rogers is right, Barth believed that Jesus was "incomplete" or "not fully human" because he was unmarried.

On the contrary, if you dig deep enough, you can see a trajectory leading from III.4 to the comment near the end of his life that same-gender relationships might also be seen as a divine gift that leads to "freedom for community." So Rogers missed an opportunity to approach the issue constructively in a Barthian context: instead, he merely concedes Barth to those Barthians whose reading, like his, of Church Dogmatics is one-sided. Thus, Barth has to be rejected as a theologian of "male superiority" who has nothing to contribute to the debate. The sad thing is that up-to-date Barth scholarship--which would have called this view into question--was available to the author in his own church.

    1 out of 5 stars Dishonest.......2007-05-25

This is an intellectually dishonest book. The worst example of the author's dishonesty concerns his references to Robert Gagnon's book The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and Hermeneutics. To put it plainly, Rogers misrepresents Gagnon's arguments and perspective. Either Rogers has not actually read Gagnon, or else he is bearing deliberately false witness. In either case, it is deplorable for a former General Assembly Moderator to use such tactics. This also calls into question every assertion in this book. As a Presbyterian pastor, I also consider it deplorable that this deeply dishonest book is published by Westminster/John Knox Press (which has published other embarassingly bad works including asinine conspiracy theories about 9/11).

The large number of fawning reviews for a clearly deficient book indicate that the pro-gay caucus within the Presbyterian Church (USA) is growing increasingly desperate. If this book is the best evidence they have for their stance, then their cause is lost.

5 out of 5 stars great factual reading.......2007-05-17

wonderfully written. the author brings in facts along with the culture during the time it was written. you will thouroughly enjoy this book. after reading it the first time, i will digest it for a couple of weeks and then read it again. thank you jack rogers!!!

    5 out of 5 stars good book!.......2007-04-07

This is an excellent book that deals with the "truth" of what the bible says about being gay. It really explains the truth of the scriptures and shows you how people have wrongly interpreted the bible for many years. It would be especially good for people in the Presbyterian church. It is a wonderful read and would be very helpful for people who have a GLBT friend/relative or for a GLBT who has struggled with this. I encourage you to read this book and break free of the religious nonsense!! God is here for you now!!

5 out of 5 stars A Pastor rethinks his opinion on homosexuality.......2007-03-27

JAck Rogers in this book exemplifies what SHOULD be going on in the church today. He challenges his traditional view on a controversial subject, and, using the Presbyterian church's methodology, changes his mind. This is a spiritual and thoughtful book that every Christian (and homophobe) should read.

    Book Description

The social minefields most privileged middle-school girls drive the over-the-top drama in this addictive new book, set in suburban New York City's Westchester County. Massie Block: With her glossy brunette bob and Whitestrip smile, Massie is the uncontested ruler of The Clique and the rest of the social scene at Octavian Country Day, an exclusive private school in Westchester, New York. Dylan Marvil: Massie's second in command who divides her time between sucking up to Massie and sucking down Atkins shakes to try to get rid of the extra fifteen pounds that won't seem to leave her hips alone. Alicia Rivera: As sneaky as she is beautiful, Alicia floats easily under adult radar because she seems so 'sweet.' Would love to take Massie's throne one day. Just might do it. Kristen Gregory: She's been dying to fit in ever since her parents went broke. She's smart, hardworking and will insult you to tears faster than you can say 'scholarship kid.' And then there's Claire Lyons, the new girl in two-year old GAP overalls from Florida, who is clearly not Clique material. The only problem is that Claire's family is staying in the guest house on the Blocks' massive estate while they look for a new home! Claire's future looks worse than a bad Prada knockoff. But with a little luck and a lot of scheming, Claire might just come up smelling like Chanel Mademoiselle....

This book was absolutley fabulous. I love how Lisi Harrison keeps you on the edge and anticipating the next word (or in Massie's case, a clever comeback!) These books are fun filled and action packed, a great read for anyone 10 or older. I recomend this series to everyone, and I cannot wait for the next book!

I loved this book, but I hated the fact that it ended like it did and the next one doesn't come out til next year. That sux! But the book itself was )as most cliques are) drama filled and intense. The life of an alpha is so not as great as it seems. And the poor girls and their crushes I mean you have GOT to feel sorry for them.

This story takes you on a journey that ended quite abrubtly, and will begin again in February 2008!!! Man I can't wait!!!!!♥

I have really enjoyed ALL of the books in the Clique series. I am a middle school teacher, and have shared my love of reading with many girls via the Clique books. These books are perfect for a hesistant reader- they are so engaging and fun to read. They are also age-appropriate, unlike some other series that are marketed to young girls.
Massie and the Pretty Committee do not disappoint in the 8th book of this series. The dialog is snappy as always, and left me looking forward to the 9th book!

You just over heard some gossip about a person that you know! Do you spread the gossip some more? If you think you might, then this might be the book for you!
Alicia Riveria is tired of being Massie Block's beta and always being the second choice or second hottest - so she decides to start a clique of her own. Well once Massie finds this out, she goes ballistic! With the race between the two, to tell who's the hottest or who's better, the girls realize that they loose the most important thing that they had. Friendship.
The best part of the book was the climax when all the gossip between the girls, exploded and revealed itself, through a cat fight. Then when they're told to stop, they stat to laugh about the whole scene and then become friends again! It's a happy ending.
As the reviewer of this book, I would say the main idea is that friendship s more important than popularity or attention `cause being popular has lots of responsibilities, but friendship involves just being yourself.
I liked the way this book switched from all the girls' different perspectives and they talked about their true feelings in their perspectives. What I would change about this book is the drama. There seems to be too much drama between the girls that the book doesn't quite, then, seem completely real, but yet its still very interesting. I would recommend this book to teenage girls between the ages 12-18, because it can help anyone of them, realize how important friendship really is and how unimportant being popular is. Overall this book is very good and I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars the clique revenge of the wanabes.......2007-05-23

I absolutley loved this book so much! There are many things that go wrong though. The girls think that nothing could go wrong between their strong friendships, until one day it all falls apart. Alicia was hanging out with Olivia way to much. The other girls knew that there wasn't enought room for her in their clique. Alicia had to make a decision to whether or not to stay with the clique, who had been her best friends forever, or stay with her new bestfriend Olivia. The clique planned a mean revenge for Alicia to make her want to change her mind about being best friends with Olivia, who was a "loser beyond repair," and not "the pretty committee."

When i was reading this book i could not put it down for one second. There was so much action going on it was really hard to put it down. The book was definitely, without a doubt in my mind a page turner. This book shows real life situations. I can relate to almost everything that happens in this book. This book is a great book for girls who are going into middle school, or who are in middle school

5 out of 5 stars Revenge of the Wannabes Review.......2007-05-06

When Alicia Rivera cheats by switching ballad boxes at the OCD fashion design with her partner Olivia, Massie Block her former best friend decides she needs to get revenge. After dance rehearsal Alicia talked to some of the girls decided she needs make other friends too other than Massie. They convinced her to hold Friday night sleepovers, even though Massie always invites her popular friends over every Friday. When she finds out she is furious and decides she doesn't want Alicia to hangout with them anymore. When Alicia and Olivia go to the Teen People Interview for winning the contest, the lady there asks them if they want to model for the magazine instead. They agree and she said they are able to bring six other friends. When Massie hears this she calls the lady and tells them that they will be the others. In the end the go to the photo shoot and it turns out a total disaster because they all get into a fight, but after that the make up and are good friends again. The Revenge of the Wannabes is a funny, interesting novel I would definitely recommend.

One of the reasons I liked this novel is because it is easy to understand and keep interest in. The story dealt real life situations that happen to teen's everyday like friendships, crushes, and popularity. Such as Alicia being tired of being pushed around by Massie, wanting to be more popular, and have other friends. Also Clair who is kind of new to Westchester and lives in Massie's guesthouse is just starting to feel popular and Massie's friend.

Another thing I liked is the characters and how they acted. Alicia Rivera wanted to be independent and more popular yet she still wanted to be exactly like Massie. She did similar things like Friday night sleepover, start her own clique, and even find look alike new best friends. Also I liked the Teen People fashion editor, Lucinda because she didn't care and was cool about everything even when she found out Olivia and Alicia cheated. She always made sure everybody and there outfits look perfect. There is also Massie, who very popular and used to getting everything she wants.

Lastly, I liked this book because of the unique well written plot. The book is mostly about revenge for Massie to get back at Alicia for starting her own clique and cheating on the fashion contest. At one point in the book Massie and her friends painted a mural describing Alicia's backstabbing then showed it to her that sent her sobbing out the door. There were several twists and unexpected parts such as when Clair is accepted into the clique and Alicia has Todd, Clair's younger brother, spy on Massie's sleepover.

Revenge of the Wannabes is a wonderful book that I would highly recommend. It was fun to read about events that I could relate too such as the drama that happens to normal teenagers. Also I liked the characters such as Kristen, who doesn't have very much money is still really good friends with the popular girls in school, and they have kept her secret for a long time. The reader will have fun trying to imagine what it would be like to be in the position of people in the book such as how Massie felt when she found out Alicia backstabbed her.

5 out of 5 stars there coming for revenge.......2007-04-05

The characters of Revenge Of The Wannabes are Clair Lyons, Kristen Gregory, Dylan Marvil, Alicia Rivera, Massie Block and Oliva. Massie Block is the most popular girl at school but Alicia want's to be more popular then her, so Alicia and the other girls at the dance studio starting talking about the sleepover that Massie Block always has and they came up with an idea that Alicia should have a sleepover of her own. so when Alicia got home she thought about it for a while. She went up to her room and checked her messages on her phone and she had messages from her dance studio friends and from Massie and those group of friends. Alicia was really confused she didn't know if she should have her own sleepover or go to Massie's. Later in the book it was a Teen People design contest Massie really won but before judging Alicia and Oliva changed the vote boxes so the 2 girls went to Teen People and they got to see all of the latest clothes and even got to take something home.

    5 out of 5 stars A Favorite!.......2007-03-30

Alicia had cheated in the OCD fashion contest and now Massie feels that the revenge is long past due, and she will stop at nothing to crush Alicia's perfect record. After dance rehearsal Alicia was talking to the other girls and decided that there was too much "Massie" in her life, and the other girls talked her into starting sleepovers on Friday night. Massie owned Fridays and that course of action was not an option, but she could not refuse the wide eyes staring in on her. As the day of her Teen People magazine interview grew closer Alicia continued to wonder if Massie knew what she and Olivia had done, but when the day of the interview came and Massie still did not say anything she thought that she was in the clear, but in truth Massie knew exactly what had happened. Then Massie found out that at the magazine interview Alicia and Olivia had been offered a modeling job, Massie decided to tell the people that Alicia was lying, but when she did all the people said was that they did not even care. Massie was so mad at Alicia that she invited her over and she had a mural of her on the wall and explained its contents to Alicia and sent her running out. Then one day at a Briarwood soccer game Cam convinced Alicia to ask Claire out for him. Alicia told Claire the news and said that they should go on a double date and Claire agreed to go. While they were there Alicia had Todd spy on Massie's sleepover. The next day Alicia said that unless they where a scarf showing that they were in her group she would tell everyone their secrets. They all wore the scarves and they all went with Alicia to the shoot and there they all got in a fight after breaking down from all the pressure that had been building up during the past month. After that situation they became friends again and Claire was admitted to the Pretty Committee. I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys gossip and tough social situations.

I enjoyed this book because it depicted how cliques and popularity affect social structure and how people act. At the beginning Alicia wanted to have her own sleepover and be the leader of a group, but Massie completely rejected the idea because she thought that people would like Alicia more than they liked her. Another time was when Alicia found out all of her ex-friends' secrets and she used that as leverage to get them to see things from her point of view. Another point was at the very end when everyone let out the anger built up inside of him or her and they started fighting. The fight was Massie's friends versus Alicia's friend and finally at the end they made up and continued the photo shoot for Teen People.

The book details the life of the Clique over the course of about one month and it is amazing how people changed and stayed the same. Kendra, Massie's mother, was always very strict about keeping everything clean and perfect, but after she started reading with a book club she started to .et go and was not as strict. She even let the girls paint the old horse barn. Another person that changed was Claire, because at the beginning she was quietly in love with Cam, but was never confident enough to really go out with him. After he did, though, she really liked it and found another thing to like in Westchester. Finally it was Massie who changed the most. In the beginning she was always rude and jealous towards Claire because she had a crush on Cam as well, so she was always telling Claire to break up with Cam because she was always so mad that someone had beaten her at something. In the end she allowed Claire to go out with Cam and she developed a crush on Derrington.

Another thing that I appreciated in this book were the different characters and how they acted. I especially liked Lucinda, the editor for Teen People because she did not care too much about anything or even that Olivia and Alicia had cheated in the contest, but she did care about how the other people dressed around her as well as her clients. Another character was Alicia Rivera and she was tired of sitting in Massie's shadow and decided to be independent and start her own group. Of course there is Massie Block, and she is an ambitious seventh grader that is used to everything going her way and getting all she wanted.

This was on of my favorite books because of the characters like Kristen, a girl who does not have very much money and yet has still made friends with the most popular girls in school, and has kept her secret over the years. I also liked this book because of how the characters changed through the progression of the story. I also liked this book because it shows how popularity really does control our life. I recommend this book to anyone that can really relate to the situations in the book.

    4 out of 5 stars clique <3.......2007-04-16

I've been obsesed with the clique ever since i read the first book when i was in 5th grade. (now 7th)

basically, its about 4 girls.. massie, dylan, alicia, kristen and claire.
I can totally picture these girls... massie being insecure inside but looking totally confident on the outside...
alicia being pretty and everyone else being jealous of her..
dylan thinking shes fat even though shes really skinny.. being a follower in a way
kristen being a little more of a tom-boy and a little more like claire than the rest of the group
claire being really nice.. not rich.. and showing the traits that most people do need to show (insecurity).

book- Octavian country day is ready to pack their bags to go to lake placid. Many adventures happen on the way.. like claire kisses josh hotz because she thinks her boyfriend cam doesnt like her anymore.. (read the previous book [revenge of the boy snatchers] to know more about that.. i cant tell you the rest.. u need to read the book..

i LOVED the ending... i like wanted to read the next book right away...
i suggest getting both books at the same time because your gona wana read the next one asap.

5 out of 5 stars This book will change your life!.......2007-08-25

I have been married nearly 30 years. Three years ago my wife and I went through a Christian program for relationships and applied biblical principals that have transformed our marriage. This book Discovering the Mind of a Woman says what I have been living for the past three years. The bottom line is that God's principals work and this book explains these principals in a concise and biblical way. By letting go of my ego, and pride and getting rid of any sin in my life that God shows me I can die to my carnal nature and put on Christ every day -actually on a moment by moment basis. For me it was like having blinders taken off my eyes. By resolving bitterness and being Christlike by agape loving my wife like Christ loves the church I am experiencing a transformation in my relationships with God, my wife and our children. This is a must read for every man that is looking for a closer walk with God and strengthened relationships of all kinds.

5 out of 5 stars groundbreaking and marriage-saving.......2007-07-27

My dh read this book and then asked me to read it. I found it a refreshing change from other books on marriage I've read. It is the only one I'm familiar with that actually holds men accountable for the success of their marriages and the emotional and spiritual health of their wives.

The criticisms mentioned in reviews here and elsewhere on the 'net are gross exaggerations and misrepresentations. It is worth noting that these reactionary comments were all made by men. If these husbands allow their wives to read the book, the women will find themselves amazed at their agreement with Mr. Nair's insights.

Most popular works on Christian marriage focus quite strongly on the wife's duty to reverence and obey her husband--this one stands out as proclaiming the balancing (and in my opinion, currently more needed) view of a husband's Christlike, sacrificial (Eph 5:25) love for his wife.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding, and the true eternal value of Mr. Nair's work is evidenced by the happier husbands and wives who have benefitted from his book. Without a doubt, husbands who take his exhortations to heart will find deeper true intimacy with their wives on every level.

5 out of 5 stars Discovering the Mind of a Woman.......2007-06-16

A must read for men seeking to be better husbands. It gave me insights into why my wife reacts the way she does to my words and actions. I plan on including this along with a few others like it to help divorce proof my small group.

    5 out of 5 stars Transformation.......2007-06-10

I have seen, in my own life and in the lives of others, the fruit of Ken Nair's teaching. The concepts within this book are not of Ken's own imagining, but are inspired; indeed, they can be found in the scriptures. "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"
    Matt 7:16

1 out of 5 stars Not The Full Counsel of God.......2007-01-31

Though much of Nair's books contain good scriptural truth, he does not "declare unto you all the counsel of God." I have attended his seminar and his counsel is one-sided and his viewpoint of women is condescending, unrealistic, and unBiblical.

    1. By implication, Ken teaches the only reason wives sin is because their husbands are not being Christlike.

    2. In his books and presentations, Ken freely applies Scripture to the responsibilities of husbands, but does not apply them to wives or even address their Biblical responsibilities except to teach the only job a wife has is to berate the husband when he is not being Christlike.

    3. Ken condemns husbands for their sins, but allows wives to freely indulge in those sins:

Ken says that women "are the historians of the family and always remember past offenses." Even though in 1 Corinthians 13:5 reliable translations tell us that true love does not keep a record of wrongs, Ken encourages wives to do the exact opposite.

Ken says, "outbursts of anger are the only way women can get men to listen," and yet, Ken encourages such anger ignoring James 1:20 and Ephesians 4:31-32 that such behavior is sin.

One walks away from Ken's books and seminars wondering if women are truly capable of sin unless their wayward husbands drive them to it.

    4. Worse of all, Ken is guilty of only quoting partial verses. 1 Peter 3:7 says, "You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, *as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.* The section between the asterisks is omitted from Ken's workbooks and presentations changing the emphasis of the verse. This is not the only verse Ken only partially quotes.

    5. Ken knows he stands on shaky ground and manipulates those who question him by accusing them of being carnal and "fleshly."

The bottom line is that Ken is correct when he instructs Christian husbands "ought to love their wives as their own bodies." However, he does everybody a grave disservice when he fails to instruct a wife to "respect her husband."

Those struggling in dysfunctional marriages will do better with certified Christian marriage counselors or the writings of James Dobson or other qualified Christian counselors, but I cannot with clear conscience recommend Ken's books and his expensive seminar and his very costly, three-year-long discipleship course.

    5 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......2007-09-25

I LOVE this book. It's probably one of my fave books. I love how much drama there is, and how the entire book just comes togther at the end and answers all the questions you have/had. I espescially like all the details, and how you can imagine the characters, and how in eah book in the clique series, a little more information is revealed about each character. I love that. It's like putting together a puzzle of each character. Out of 5 stars, I would definetly give this book a five.

    4 out of 5 stars Richly Entertaining.......2007-08-05

Okay, I'm not gunna lie, not really used to reading the whole rich girl livin' in a wonderful world thinking everyone wants to be like her. Me, I'm more into the African- American novels that talk about what's goin on down in the hood and high school drama that we gotta deal with. But.. this book has made me change my mind on that. I picked it up in a book store and this was actually the first book I read out of the whole Clique Series and I just had to buy the rest. So now I'm starting at the vert begining and am actually enjoying myself.

This book, filled with so much drama (about boys, what else?!) sparked my intrest with the simple title and from the first page on, I was glued to that book.!!! ENJOY!!!!!♥

    5 out of 5 stars A wonderful book.......2007-04-18

The book Invasion of the boy snatchers, by Lisi Harrison, is a wonderful book. It talks about friends who gossip a lot. Massie, Claire, Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen are all friends. They all love makeup and having fancy clothes. Massie even gets free Chapstick every month.
One day Alicia's cousin, Nina, came from Spain. Alicia's friends looked at some pictures of Nina and saw that she wasn't very pretty. But when she arrived all the boys from their school were in love with her.
After a little bit of time all five friends got sick of Nina having all the boys' eyes on her. So they started looking for something that would humiliate her. To see what happens at the end you will have to read the book and figure it out.
My favorite part of the book is the end, but I can't say what happens at the end so you will have to read it to figure out. If you like books that talk about gossipy girls and boys you should read this book. It's a very good book.

Will Nina steal all of the Brairwood boys from them? Or will Massie and her friends still rule the school and tell her to go back to spain?

1 out of 5 stars "Invasion of the Fashion-Zombies" by bleh.......2007-04-04

I completely agree with the reviewer "Scott McKay". We've reduced our youth to obessive, fashion freaks and teen losers. By today's standards, being a "fashion god", a "hottie" and a brat are cool. These books show how immature some of our writers are today.
Have some sort of value and when your daughter comes home from the bookstore with a bagfull of "The CLique" books, light up your grill and make her watch you burn those books to ashes. And when she asks for the money back, just say "No".

As Green Day would say, we've become "one nation controlled by the media".
