Book Description
Irvin Muchnick — a widely published writer and nephew of the late, legendary St. Louis wrestling promoter Sam Muchnick — has produced a book unlike any other on the astonishing growth of professional wrestling and its profound impact on mainstream sports and society. In Wrestling Babylon, he traces the demise of wrestling’s old Mafia-like territories and the rise of a national marketing base thanks to cable television, deregulation and a culture-wide nervous breakdown. Naturally, the figure of WWE’s Vince McMahon lurks throughout, but equally evident is the public’s late-empire lust for bread, circuses, and blood. As this book demonstrates, the more cartoonishly unreal wrestling got, the more chillingly real it became.
What truly distinguishes Wrestling Babylon, however, is Muchnick’s ability to show how professional wrestling has become the ur-carnival for a culture that feeds on escapist displays of humiliation, revenge, fantasy characters, and sex. His People magazine article on Hulk Hogan blew the lid off the drug abuse of the sport’s signature superstar. His award-winning Penthouse profile of the ill-starred Von Erich clan was the first to connect the dots between wrestling, televangelism, and MTV-style production values. His never-before-published investigation of the death of Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka’s girlfriend suggests the cover-up of a murder. The book’s appendix — a comprehensive listing of the dozens of wrestlers who died prematurely over the last generation, with little or no attention — is both a valuable resource for wrestling historians and a shocking document of the ruthless way sports entertainment eats its own.

Quick read.......2007-09-09
This covers various scandals in the sport, and seems complete (ends before the Benoit deaths). It is readable for fans and non-fans alike. It ends with a chronological list of deaths of wrestlers under the age of 50 (and its a fairly long one). Could be more detailed.
Disappointing.......2007-08-29
I purchased this book after reading a slew of positive reviews. I was hoping it would be an extension of Mike Mooneyham's excellent book.
It was not. The stories were interesting, and the writing was good, but I was left wanting more details. It's essentially a collection of articles that Irv wrote for various publications. The very nature of an article would suggest that it's short, and I think he missed a golden opportunity to expand on the stories.
He's a talented writer, but this book felt lacking to me.
Very dated.......2007-08-27
Well, Irwin Muchnick (nephew to promotor Sam Muchnick but of no relation to writer Phil Mushnick) has collected some of his past magazine columns and combined them into a not-so-tell-all book about matters we pretty much know all about already. The majority of these articles are about steroids in wrestling. There's a section on the Snuka groupie death, sex in wrestling, and maybe the best section, the rise and fall of the Von Erichs. Lastly in the book is a (incomplete) listing of wrestlers who have died under the age of fifty but the book was set for publishing prior to Sherri Martel's passing and the Benoit murders. The most damaging part of this book is the dependence on the steroid articles. Also hurtful is the extreme dated-ness of the articles, it's nothing more than a collection of old articles thrown together in one cover. It would have helped if Irwin would have given some kind of decent update on the articles and mabe written something fresh and original to include.
Overall, lacksidasical (sp?), dated, and not terribly interesting anymore. Save your money and borrow it from a library or read it in the bookstore.
writters ego.......2007-07-21
i purchased this book to get an inside look of wrestling. after reading throught the writers $10 and $20 words i found nothing of interest. the writer (irvin muchnick) wrote this book at a level that most readers do not enjoy reading. to put this simple he had about three paragraphs of info on wrestling and surrounded it by alot of minutia. if there was a way i could get a refund i would try to get it.
Give Me a Break...........2007-06-06
This is the most pathetic waste of trees I have ever had the misfortune of reading. All the writer seems to care about is how horrible wrestling is, yet he is fixated on it. I find it interesting that someone who writes a so-called expose (some expose...almost every revelation is old news and common knowledge) on wrestling uses his uncle Sam, who was involved with wrestling in St. Louis, to sell the book. How hypocritical.

Touted as a Ball Four for the new millennium, Jose Canseco's Juiced promises to expose not only the rampant use of performance-enhancing substances in baseball (with steroids replacing the amphetamines of Bouton's day), but the painfully human flaws of its heroes as well. A steroid devotee since the age of 20, Canseco goes beyond admitting his own usage to claim that with the tacit approval of the league's powers-that-be he acted as baseball's ambassador of steroids and is therefore indirectly responsible for "saving" the game.
Chief among his claims is that he introduced Mark McGwire to steroids in 1988 and that he often injected McGwire while they were teammates. According to Canseco, steroids and human growth hormones gave McGwire and Sammy Sosa (whose own usage was "so obvious, it was a joke") the strength, stamina, regenerative ability, and confidence they needed for a record-setting home run duel often credited with restoring baseball's popularity after the 1994 strike. Although he devotes a lot of ink to McGwire, Canseco envisions himself as a kind of Johnny Steroidseed, spreading the gospel of performance enhancement, naming a number of players that he either personally introduced to steroids or is relatively certain he can identify as fellow users. Because Canseco plays fast and loose with some of the facts of his own career he provides fodder for those looking to damage his credibility, but in many ways questions of public and personal perception are what raise the book beyond mere vitriolic tell-all. Those willing to heed his request and truly listen to what he has to say will find Juiced to be an occasionally insightful meditation on the workings of public perception and a consistently interesting character study. --Shane Farmer
Book Description
The book that changed baseball forever
For years, Jose Canseco was one of the most intimidating hitters in the Major Leagues. The embodiment of speed and power, he was the first player in Major League history to steal forty bases and hit forty home runs in a single season. Off the field, his personal life was just as outrageous, with tales of his out-of-control antics spilling off sports pages and into gossip columns. But Canseco also harbored one of Major League Baseball's darkest secrets: steroids. In Juiced, he comes clean about this wild past, sharing the unbelievable truth about baseball's steroid addiction and how this onetime taboo has spread to every locker room in the big leagues. Entertaining, raucous, and unforgettable, Canseco takes you beneath the veneer of Major League Baseball, demonstrating how big muscles and performance-enhancing drugs have changed the rules of the game forever.

The Godfather of Steroids.......2007-07-18
When I was 10 years old, every kid I knew had a McGwire/Canseco "Bash Brothers" poster on their wall. McGwire went on to have a Hall of Fame caliber career, while Canseco never really fulfilled initial expectations. At least Canseco admits here that he was an average player who never would have made it in the big leagues without steroids. That's the most refreshing thing about this book: He has no apologies. In a day and age when every player that tests positive points fingers at everyone but themselves, it's nice to hear at least one professional athlete stand up for his actions.
Canseco's motives and honesty were rightly questioned when this book was released, but a couple of years later exposes such as "The Game of Shadows" have proven that Canseco's claims may not be as exaggerated as previously thought.
The writing level of this book is strictly third-grade, apparently written without the assistance of a ghost writer. The book could have been improved by a ghost writer or editor willing to fact-check and do some investigative legwork to lend credibility to Canseco's hyperbole.
Enjoyable, but fairly shallow........2007-05-30
Although this book sparked bitter debate and endless controversy, its contents are not actually that surprising or, if you'll pardon the pun, juicy. Canseco is of course not nearly the bad guy he was made out to be, although I don't think he entirely disliked being a villain. It seems like he brags quite a bit when it comes to women and his material possessions, but it's very likely just a case of him being truthful. I had to keep reminding myself that insecure people such as Jose often feel a great need to boast to others. You might dislike whistle-blowers and view steroids as cheating, but illegal substances are more a part of sports than the average fan will ever know or care about. The media wants us to believe this is a crisis, but if everyone is cheating, is anyone cheating? Overall, I guess I have a better opinion of Jose Canseco after reading 'Juiced' than I once did; he probably has killed any and all of his slim Hall of Fame chances, and I respect that sacrifice. But he didn't kill anyone. His 'patients' hit him up for a 'roids 101 class and reaped great monetary rewards. He's got a beautiful daughter, a great bank account, and his health. Why should any of us have a problem with that? I had some problems with his endless racism theories, as it just makes him look foolish. And he claims that he was run out of baseball because they wanted to shut him up, when such action is the very thing that would prompt a tell-all such as this. Who wants to bet he received a few calls from teams but that he probably wanted too much money? Much like steroids, it happens all the time.
Jose Conseco is right on.......2007-05-24
Jose Conseco writes an excellent article as life in the Major leagues. His stories are concise and to the point. The object of this book, it not to tell someone how to play better, but rather what life can be like in the Majors. Also, Jose is not the bad guy he is now days considered to be. He was a scapegoat for the commissioner of baseball. Often he describes how the media and baseball can play politics and destroy an otherwise great career. His chapter on umpires is, in fact, exactly how I found it to be when I played and very informative. The book is entertaining and forthright and explains how the "haves" and "have nots" fare in the Majors. Highly recommended reading. His excuse for using steroids is weak, but overall, you can see how things basically destroyed one of the best Cuban hitters to ever step in the batter' box. Great book.
A Baseball Expose'.......2007-04-12
Jose Canseco exposes the baseball players he says used steroids during their careers. Although you may not be surprised at the names he floats as users, you may enjoy his personal stories.
Average?.......2007-03-14
I would say average book due to the content has mostly come out to be true. Just written like a fourth grader wrote it

The best survival book you will ever buy.!.......2007-01-10
This book is good information for advanced retreaters who know there math or are willing to do there home work i have so you can to.This book is worth any amount of money for those who dont believe in conventional doctoring because of religious or personal reasons this is the book for you it can make the diffrence between life and death.Buy it and keep it at the front of youre Medical library.Another fine book bye Ragner Benson
Just Downright Dangerous.......2006-11-04
A listing of the errors and inaccuracies in this book would fill a small paperback in itself. If a person hasn't been trained in the basics of emergency medical science, some of the procedures advocated in this book could prove lethal to a patient if performed by an amateur. The book can best be characterized this way: even the author's method for forging prescriptions is obsolete.
If you're looking for a felony conviction, this is your book. If you're interested in sound do-it-yourself emergency healthcare procedures, try one of the books recommended by the other medical professionals who reviewed this one.
Just do your EMT.......2006-03-10
Full of less than half information, just do your EMT Basic license at a local community college. Its a real qualification and you know that you met a standard. After all, people are not legos and in an emergency you want skills you can depend on...because thats exactly what you'll be doing.
Full of half-truths and lies.......1999-04-14
I don't recommend this book. As with most books by survial author "Ragnar Benson" it is full of innaccuracies and half truths. There is some basic information on setting bones, stitching wounds, and other simple topics, but it is not very well addressed -- It's almost as if the author has no idea what he's talking about and is simply repeating urban knowledge thirdhand. As far as his information of how to aquire the various supplies, there are far better, easier, and more legal ways than he describes here. The misinformation presented here is likely to get you in trouble. "DITCH MEDICINE" is a far better book.
Long on drug acquisition, short as a medical material.......1998-12-28
The author spends a lot of time telling you how to obtain drugs normally available only through doctors (and ranting about government control) while not spending a lot of time on the medical aspects that the title leads you to believe.
I suppose that his suggestions about forging prescriptions shouldn't be surprising when his other books tell readers how to gunrun for profit, acquire new id, build claymore mines, etc.

Book Description
Many advances have been made since the publication of Drug Testing in Hair. The mid-1990s witnessed the progress in cannabis detection while the late 1990s focused on benzodiazepines detection and the applications in doping control. In more recent years, toxicologists centered on the detection in hair of a single exposure and the related applications in drug-facilitated crimes. Presenting these topics as well as the latest findings from the international community, Analytical and Practical Aspects of Drug Testing in Hair reviews all new developments, the validation of analytical procedures, and the interpretation of data. Written by well-known, international authors, this comprehensive reference provides practical coverage of the best drug testing techniques and examines the drugs themselves. Some of the applications discussed include doping, drug-facilitated crime investigating, workplace testing, and the granting of drivers' licenses. The authors describe specific drugs, such as opiates, cocaine, and cannabis, and discuss the different testing methods for them. The book also covers postmortem toxicology, pitfalls created by passive exposure, and testing for metals, including inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-MS), hair multielementary analysis, and the new speciation analysis. A complete, up-to-date resource that explains numerous drug testing techniques, Analytical and Practical Aspects of Drug Testing in Hair provides useful information for toxicologists, forensic scientists, sports medicine specialists, and pathologists.

The loveable, disaster-prone hero of Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key is back, this time in charge of his attention deficit disorder and ready to greet the world as a normal kid--with the help of his new and improved meds, of course. Now that Joey has a handle on his actions, he feels prepared to face the most mysterious member of his family--his estranged father, Carter Pigza. He convinces his skeptical mom to let him spend part of his summer vacation getting to know his dad again. The only problem is that Joey's dad is just as wired as Joey used to be: "I looked over at his mouth, which never seemed to close--not even the lips touched together--and it made me dizzy to listen to him." Carter believes that Joey can kick his ADD the way he himself kicked alcoholism--cold turkey. But when Carter flushes his meds, Joey has to decide if being friends with his dad is worth losing his hard-won self-control. "That old Joey was coming to get me and I couldn't do anything about it... I closed my eyes and told myself to sleep while I could."
Jack Gantos's second book about Joey Pigza is just as delightful and soulful as his first. Joey's attempts to keep the fragile peace in his life intact are touching, and his intense longing to just be normal will mirror the feelings of most preteens, whether they have ADD or not. Joey Pigza may sometimes lose control, but he never loses his heart. This is an exceptional sequel. (Ages 10 and older) --Jennifer Hubert

Teacher's Grade: A-.......2007-08-31
In this sequel to Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, Joey goes to spend summer with his dad. After all the work Joey did in the first book to get some semblance of control to his hyperactivity, it is with mixed feelings when Joey's dad decides that Joey doesn't really need his medicine any longer. The results, though predictable, are both funny and horrifying, because while out-of-control Joey does do some wild things, the part of Joey's mind that recognizes he's losing control is sad and miserable at the loss of his 'normalcy.'
I have taught 'Joey Pigza' about 7 times in the past ten years, and remember him fondly. 'Joeys' have energy to spare and don't have a mean bone in their bodies. But having one in the classroom is like teaching with a time bomb in the room, a time bomb without a timer, that could go off at any moment without any signs that the explosion is imminent. I love having 'Joey Pigzas' in my room, but they can cause damage just by being so distracting.
Jack Gantos does a phenomenal job of bringing the internal world of Joey to life in this fast moving, riveting book. The students I've read this aloud to (sometimes even the Joeys) listen with jaws agape at the antics and situations that Joey gets himself to. I recommend both of the Joey Pigza books without hesitation, both to professionals who want to know more, and to children who have ADHD children in their classrooms.
What truly is Normal????.......2007-05-24
This book is about how Joey Pigza Goes To his Dad's house [because his parents are divorced] for six weeks. His Dad thinks Joey can control himself without patches that calm him down [ because he is disabled]. When his Dad takes him to one of the baseball team's practices that his dad coaches he learns to pitch a baseball. His dad also tries to teach him to drive the car!!!!
This books message is that nobody is perfect in this world, and that if you find someone who you think you shoudn't be associated with it is best to just back away. I know this is the message because in the story Joey's dad is someone who he thinks he shoudn't be associated with and he just decides to leave his dad.
I like this book because it is a great impression of realistic fiction and looks into the life of a disabled kid, wonderfully connecting the two into a truly delightful read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys funny books, and has a little mischief in their life.
Pigza's Wired.......2007-03-28
I would recommend this book to all kids from ages 10-14, boys mostly. This is a great read because you can relate to the characters in the story. I personally could not put the book down because every page was filled with captivating events. Also, at the end of chapters there was always something leaving me with such a curiosity that I had to read on. For example "I was thinking of the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers and figured I shouldn't ever fall asleep again. Because instead of waking up a zombie, as they did in the movie, I'd wake up wired." I really enjoyed the plot and it was very believable because crazy things can happen when parents are divorced. Joey was a very realistic character and I think he is just like any normal kid with divorced parents. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read another book by this stupendous author.
Joey Pigza Looses Control.......2007-03-24
Joey Pigza Loses Control: review
My lit circle book, Joey Pigza loses Control was an easy and kind of short book. It has 196 pages. I would give this book a 6/10; it wasn't that interesting like people said it would be. The story is about a boy named Joey who goes to see his dad and he makes a bond with him along with his grandma. His dad and grandma both smoke. His mom told Joey before he went to go see his mom that his dad was kind of crazy. Joey's grandma uses an oxygen tank because she has leukemia, his dad where's nicotine patch but I don't know what that is. His dad soon lets Joey play baseball and Joey becomes happy. On the day Joey has to go back home with his mom he argues with his mom that she was wrong about his dad. This book was pretty weird but worth reading. You may want to even read this book a second time.

joey pigza lit review
My lit circle book right now is not exciting because i don't like books but it doesn't make it a bad book to every one its just my opinion but i would still recommend this to anyone who likes reading . Also this book would be a good book for anyone who might have a.d.d Cause joey also has a.d.d so for anyone this would be a book to read to relate to it. I Would give this book a 0 if i could rate it cause it is kinda slow. . . . REALLY SLOW IN MY OPINION. This is a book for people who can sit still and read through a book.

Book Description
"You never know what's going to save you."
After years of dingy nightclubs and drug addiction, John Albert and his hard-luck friends certainly never expected their salvation to arrive in the form of a pastime most often associated with Mom, God, and apple pie. Wrecking Crew -- a highly unusual chronicle of recovery and redemption -- documents the transformation of a group of musicians, struggling screenwriters, and wannabe actors into a competitive band of hardballers.
For over a decade, it seemed to be enough: the narcotics, gambling, whores, and aimless rebellion. But as they stumbled into their thirties, the blithe pursuit of self-destruction had simply become exhausting to these battle-scarred denizens of the L.A. counterculture. The romantic squalor of being perpetually broken-down, periodically drug-addled, and irresponsible began to lose its charm.
The idea of fielding a baseball team to compete in a hard-knocks amateur league seemed merely the latest in a string of half-hearted stabs at restoring order to their ragged lives. But this escapade was different. When these men donned their team uniforms, the old obsessions started to fade and something incredible began to happen. This is the unforgettable story of the Griffith Park Pirates.

More than just baseball.......2007-03-24
I'm a picky reader and I normally don't dish out five stars for delightment. Well, here's my two cents:
I never liked baseball that much. Now a book about baseball would frighten me away. I've never been interested in reading about people involved with drugs, cross-dressers, call-girl romances, alcoholics, and even crazy sexual exploits.
I learned about the book through a friend and thought to myself, "oh what the heck. If I hate it after the first three chapters, I'll sell the book."
I read the first page, then the second and for some reason, I found myself on the fourth chapter. After that, I couldn't put the book down. It has practically everything that I mentioned above (drugs, sex, cross-dressing etc) and with a dollop of baseball. Perhaps the fact that it is a memoir that makes it all the more of a page-turner. I kept thinking to myself, "wow, this is an entirely other world with people trying to survive Hollywood." And throughout the book, I sympathize for all the characters (well, they're real-life people). Also, Mr. Albert gives the truth about "Hollywood's Wasteland": people who dream of making it big but fall short. Baseball becomes their road to recovery.
Because Mr. Albert was able to hold my attention for all those pages, I must give him five stars. (btw, I'm keeping the book!)
Home Run Writing.......2007-02-14
I read this book a few weeks ago and have been pondering how to phrase my review ever since. At first, I wanted to say simply that I couldn't put the book down. I read it in a 24-hour period, losing sleep in order to get to the end. How often has that happened in my life? First time was with Witch of Blackbird Pond when I was 10. Then Outsiders at 12. And Exorcist at 14. But as an adult? I think the last time was Ironweed.
The writing is that good. The story that engrossing.
But there's more to it. I've been a baseball fan forever. And one of my most memorable dates was in New York, watching the sun setting over the stadium, wrapped in a boyfriend's arms and sneaking sips of beer from his plastic cup. It was romance in motion, set at the ballgame.
This book is nothing like that.
Flash forward to same boyfriend in L.A. We'd both moved to Los Angeles within months of each other, and were inseparable. Until he took me to a Dodger game and explained that he still wanted to see me, but now that he was trying to be an actor, he wanted to be available to f*ck some starlets, too. Same game. Same man. Different coast. Different setting.
This book is much more like that.
I'm giving it to my friends this year on their birthdays. I'm reading it over again when the images start to fade. And I'm writing gushing fan letters to John Albert to tell him that he pulled me in from start to finish.
Punks Rocks = Bad Jocks.......2006-05-12
A good one here. The writing is good, the story is catchy and the characters are OK. It may be the jock in me but i actually wish there was more baseball in the story. But anyone 30+ who lived or still lives in the punk hardcore world should appreciate it.
More than anything else, i got a real sense of Southern California life from this book. It captured the true nature and setting of the place better than anything else i have ever read. God, i hate California, and this shows me why. Cool tidbits on how life as a youth has changed from then to now as well.
Junkies unite!.......2005-10-25
Great story about junkies/go-no-wheres uniting to create a sanctuary of sanity through baseball. Great snapshots of meandering lives and decisions gone awry. Some name dropping from the punk/metal/rock scene that could make it worth any Jane's Addiction fan's time worth while. Couldn't stop reading. Ripped right through it.
Why did I love this so much?!.......2005-10-18
I don't know, but I did. I love baseball. Actually, I mostly love hearing anyone who can wax rhapsodic about baseball as a metaphor for life. I love the actual game slightly less. And John Albert does a nifty job of combining baseball, the meaning of life and what seem like dead-on character sketches. Not to mention the brilliant job he does of evoking LA. That, to me, may be the book's greatest, if most unexpected, achievement. I find LA slightly horrifying and yet something about these guys (and gals) who were so sad made me feel a little something tender for the place, or the people who try to live there, anyway.
Not for the squeamish, but definitely worth the read.

Baseball and Friendship.......2007-07-04
Seth thinks that if his father hadn't died when Seth was seven, Seth probably would have become a golfer. His father was an avid golfer, even though he said he wasn't all that good at it. But Seth's father did die, so instead of golfing with him on a Saturday afternoon, Seth ended up meeting Jimmy and his father at the park. Jimmy is a natural baseball player and his father is incredibly hard on him, yelling at him and making him practice the fundamentals over and over. Seth isn't very fond of Jimmy's dad; he doesn't like how the man yells at his son and how he sometimes seems to drink too much. Jimmy, though, defends his father and talks about how because his father is hard on him, he will someday play major league baseball.
Almost immediately, Seth is brought into Jimmy's baseball fantasy. At the age of eight, he is a little old to just start thinking about baseball, but Jimmy and his father manage to teach Seth enough for him to get on a little league team. He is so eager to catch up with his new friend that he practices hard and eventually advances through the Little League system.
Seth and Jimmy have an on-again, off-again relationship. They sometimes go years without seeing each other, such as when Jimmy's parents divorce and Jimmy goes to a different school. But when Jimmy comes back for high school, it's like they were never apart. As they grow older, though, their friendship becomes more difficult. The first problem is that Seth isn't nearly as good a baseball player as Jimmy. He tries hard, but he begins to suspect he simply doesn't have the raw talent necessary to make it like Jimmy could make it.
The second problem, and the one that worries Seth more and more, is the fact that Jimmy seems to be drinking more and more. He isn't sure how to stop his friend, and he finds himself backing off rather than starting a fight.
I liked that this book followed Seth and Jimmy through so many years; I felt like I could really see their friendship develop and change. I also liked that things weren't smooth for the characters. Each had his own problems and had to figure out how to deal with them.
It seemed odd to me, though, that there was never anything on Seth's mind except baseball and Jimmy. He never had any feelings for any girls that he mentioned and never seemed to have a single other friend except for Jimmy.
Heart of a Champion.......2006-12-22
There are millions of books out in the world. But not all of them people like. I don't like sad books or girly books. I like sports books like baseball, basketball, and football. I also like action books. But one baseball book I really liked was Heart of a Champion. This book was written by Thomas J. Dygard. The book is about two kids in high school who have been friends since elementary school, and have a friendship that was meant to last forever. Jimmy is well on his way to being a Major League Baseball star. He made his school varsity team easily. Seth on the other hand, is struggling just to make the team. Both of them go threw some good and bad times. Like dealing with drugs, meeting new people, dealing with family members. But both of them finally figure out the consequences for doing bad and stupid things.
This book is a sad but a very exciting pulse-pounding book. But, it is also a book that sends a great message to high-school kids who love to play sports like Jimmy and Seth not to do drugs, or to drink and drive. This book is one of the best I have ever read. I like this book because I love baseball books. It has a great life lesson to teach all kids the good and bad things in life. This book had a big impact on me. Maybe it can have one on you too.
Heart of a Reviewer.......2006-11-18
A little kid named Seth was hanging out at a park all by himself. Then he met Jimmy, a boy who changed his life. Jimmy got Seth into baseball and they played with eachother until high school. You will stay addicted to this books from all the suspenseful twists and turns. I think this is a good book because it's about an athlete who is very determined and builds up his skills. He goes through the obstacles of life and friendships. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sports.

Book Description
On the football field, Lawrence Taylor was an unstoppable force of nature -- arguably the best defensive player in the game and, quite possibly, ever. But off the field, the life of a player who enjoyed a record ten Pro Bowl appearances and led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories was an all-out blitz, fueled by drugs, sex, and booze, and charging at breakneck speed toward total self-destruction. This is the shocking true story of a giant's fall ... and his remarkable journey back to the world.

A reminder of Pro Sports........2007-03-29
I think this is a reminder of how Profesinal Athletes can take a turn for the worst. In the beginning of this Autobiography you can see the reality of the being a pro athlete. You see Lawrence in a situation were he is buying drugs and he is being held up and he is mugged. I thought this is a great way to teach people about how drugs can ruin an image and family life. This book is real it is from the eyes of probably the greatest linebacker of all time.
Great Story.......2006-05-22
His story is a very honest and hard look at his life written by he. He goes thru this nightmares of this addiction with honesty and detail. This many setbacks and attempts at sobriety are frightening and unknown to this common man. He were a great player for many years. He have finally conquered he demons and he are now a likable and respected person.
A Waste Of Time.......2005-08-11
Don't bother wasting your time on this book. It's difficult to believe that an individual would spend almost the entire book bragging about illegal and immoral behavior.
LT OUT OF CONTROL.......2005-02-20
THIS IS A VERY HONEST AND HARD LOOK AT LAWRENCE TAYLOR WRITTEN BY HIMSELF. HE GOES THRU THE NIGHTMARES OF THIS ADDICTIONS WITH HONESTY AND DETAIL. THE MANY SET BACKS AND ATTEMPTS AT SOBRIETY ARE VERY INTERESTING AND FRIGHTENING. HE WAS A GREAT PLAYER FOR MANY YEARS FOR THE GIANTS. LT HAS FINALLY GOTTEN A HANDLE ON HIS DEMONS AND IS NOW SOMEONE TO RESPECT. I FOUND THIS TO A WELL WRITTEN BOOK AND RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONE.
The truth about LT.......2005-01-25
This book is about a hall of fame football player who drugs at one point took over his life.Lt started using cocaine as a social thing, but then it got to a point that it became a daily thing. The NFL started doing random drug test's Lt would tell people to urine in a cup for him so he can cheat the drug test it wouldn't show that he used drugs. Then Lt got two strikes for failing two drug test's after he heard that if he failed another drug test he would be banned from the NFL. So Lt got serious by going to rehab and cleaning himself up. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to find out the real truth about Lawrence Taylor. Also because it's a good book to read, and its very interesting. Also to anybody who likes football. And also I would recommend it because it shows you the affects that drugs have on someone's behavior. And it gives you the real facts about Lt's drug habit.
