4 out of 5 stars Wise Book.......2007-06-09

Beautiful sepia-toned photos focus the reader's attention. Some of the women in the book are well known, some are not - which leads you to think maybe you could be wise or courageous or beautiful also. Interesting quotes. Interesting book. I bought one for a friend. After reading it, I bought several more for myself and other friends.

5 out of 5 stars An inspiration of a book!.......2007-04-02

I found this book at my massage therapist's.
I couldn't put it down.
It is absolutely beautiful, and real and inspiring.
The photography is incredible.

This is a MUST for every special woman in your life!

5 out of 5 stars Wise Women.......2007-03-10

I bought this book for my 61 year old sister. After seeing this in the doctors office I knew this was a must for her. She means the world to me and I felt that this would say it all. It has!!! Beautifully done.

5 out of 5 stars Wise Women - photos and messages.......2007-01-20

This book was a gift but I own it and knew it is marvellous. The recipient was very touched and inspired by the photos and the words of wisdom - she said every woman over 40 should have it in their collection.

5 out of 5 stars Wise Women for Every Age.......2007-01-10

The book is stunning. The photography and text work together to create a multi-dimensional image of these women -- famous, infamous, or someone like your aunt Jenny whose status remains within the family. This is a book to keep by your bed and pick up when you need some inspiration or just want to read for five minutes before you fall asleep. Buy it, keep it, and buy more as gifts. It's a treasure.

Book Description

“When the bats fly low and night’s in the sky, Universal Studios are at their best.” That’s how a critic in the 1930s described the magic of Universal monster movie. This was a genre that the studio essentially invented - enabling it to survive and thrive–and that led to cinematic classics that continue to influence entertainment of all kinds.

Now, from Universal itself, comes a lavishly illustrated book that provides the words and images behind these legendary films–plus heartfelt tributes from some of Hollywood’s most famous fans. Here are beautiful on-screen and behind-the-scenes photos from the studio’s vaults; the background stories of Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the other classic characters that scared audiences and scared up profits; the makeup secrets; the censorship battles; and words of praise from friends, family, and fans.

With today’s fantasy and horror films ruling the box-office–and special edition DVDs available of Universal’s masterpieces–Monsters is an invaluable guide for a new generation. It shows where the “creature feature” began, from the twenties silent classic The Phantom of the Opera to fifties favorite Creature from the Black Lagoon. Frightening and fun, this splendid volume is perfect for monster fans of any age.

For more than ninety years, Universal Studios has been bringing unique entertainment experiences to millions of people around the world. Through their motion pictures, home videos, theme parks, television networks and programming, they are in the business of thrills and chills as well as tears and laughter. And with their extensive library of legendary films they have set the standard for inspiring wonder and ultimately transforming moments into lasting memories.

5 out of 5 stars The definitive book on Uiversal monsters.......2007-09-06

This is the best book on Universal monsters ever! I bought it for the pictures and i sure haven't been disappointed. Great fantastic images of the original monsters! Of course if you're looking for an informative book, this probably isn't it. But i don't think it's been published for what it has to say.......just great

4 out of 5 stars Gorgeous pictures, but needs a few more words.......2007-03-15

As a longtime fan of Univeral Monster movies, I have to say I'm delighted with the quality of the many photographs--many of them full-page--in this book. And what is most surprising is that I had never seen many of them. These aren't just the familiar publicity stills that you can find all over the place.

The brief essays by filmmakers such as John Landis, and descendants of the great Universal actors like Karloff and Lugosi are mostly well-written. You can tell the authors have great affection for these films. As someone else has pointed out, there are some errors in the accounts given by uncredited Universal Studios employees. For example, it is said that FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN includes both the title creatures, as well as Dracula. This, of course, did not happen until HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

If there's any other real problem with this beautiful book, it's that the text is too brief. Yes, the pictures are the real star of this show, and the book is certainly worth owning for these alone. But as this is an official publication from the studio that made these beloved films, it seems like more time should have been spent discussing the films. Virtually all the sequels--save for BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN--are glossed over with just a few lines. I hope Univeral will consider publishing another volume, and expand on the content of this book.

If you're a fan, you should definitely have this one. It's a fine "coffee table" book, and likely to attract attention from people who've never even seen the films. I bought this one just before having surgery, and a friend who visited me in the hospital (and who only has a passing familiarity with these films) tried to take the book away from me!

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2007-01-12

the greatest universal monsters book ever compiled with photos of the actors on and off screen. top quality production with color and black and white photos, if you are a fan of the universal monsters you will love this book.

4 out of 5 stars Universal's Monsters reign supreme...even with a few mistakes!.......2007-01-07

As the previous reader's posts have mentioned, this book is packed with excellent pictures from the universal archives. The articles are very interesting and insightful. HOWEVER, there are clearly SEVERAL mistakes in the book that any avid monster fan can spot. For instance, a picture's caption of Bela Lugosi as Frankenstein in "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man" states that it is Lon Chaney! A second caption on a picture reads " Gwen Conliffe and her Fiance "Glenn Talbot". Glenn Talbot? Not even a character in the film! Gwen's fiance was named Frank Andrews! Many other mistakes plague the book as well, such as when they quote Maria Ouspenskaya's Chilling epitath of the Doomed Larry Talbot, they state it as saying".....evil enters the sea"! What!! It's correct transcript should be "..as the rain enters the soil, the RIVER enters the sea"! This is an unexcusable mistake on a VERY famous quote! Another has a Mummy sequel as having music from "Son of Frankenstein" when it was music taken from "Frankenstein meets the wolf man" and/or "The Wolf Man! (the musical ques are very evident).and , Finally a mistake on page 123, the film "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man, states it as having ALL three monsters in it ( Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man). The film did NOT have Dracula in it. So the text itself has several mistakes that slightly tarnish an otherwise amazing book. I still reccomend it to all those who love the classic Universal monsters as i do, and at $19.99 it's a bargain!

3 out of 5 stars Universal THEIR unknown MONSTERS.......2007-01-04

There are so many MISTAKES in this book! UNIVERSAL doesn't even know their own monsters!!!!!! They should hire some MONSTER KID like myself to help them out and review their products before they put them out!!!!

5 out of 5 stars 'Another World' still turns in this wonderful book!.......2005-05-19

This book is a must-have for any fan of the much-missed soap opera Another World- hundreds of photos, detailed year-by-year recaps, and interviews with the actors all make for a great tribute to a wonderful show. If there are any complaints, it's that some of the plot synopsis have been condensed a little too much, and more information about spin-offs Texas and Somerset would have been welcome, as well as more behind the scenes information. Still, this is an incredible book that should appeal to any fan!

1 out of 5 stars More like "Fall of the House of Usher.".......2004-10-08

Who wants to remember 35 years of people robbing, cheating on each other, stealing money, jumping in bed with someone else when they were already married, the search and holding on of power. These were not nice people they were all distrubed human beings who belonged in jail or the sick house.

When the series finally left the air, it was a sign of sanity.

5 out of 5 stars A Must for AW fans.......2001-07-23

Anyone who watched this soap will enjoy this book. Since this soap was taken from us on the 35th anniversary, this book has even more meaning. You will get to relive the highlights and story lines now missing from our daily lives. I get mine out about every 6 months - or whenever I need a Bay City fix. Looking through the book always manages to bring tears or laughter to me.

4 out of 5 stars A Must Have for any Soap Addict.......2001-07-11

This is now a great retrospective of a great show that is now defunct. It is one of the best types of this book (though it is not as well done as General Hospital's). It should be in every collector's bookshelf.

5 out of 5 stars A Welcome Gift, A Prized Possession.......2000-04-29

For the first 10 years of watching AW, I was a loyal, but hardly passionate fan. The last 5 years, leading up to the cancellation, I developed a passionate attachment. This book has made dealing with the loss of this 15 year old friend so much easier. I treasure this book in so many ways. If you are or were a fan, this really is a must have. No doubt.

I've been going to Charleston since I was a small child, and I learned a few things from this fun little book. I bought it for the illustrations- I love maps and "Did you know" kinds of books-and thought this was the perfect marriage of the two. Charleston is so interesting that I think there is more to tell, so I wish it were a little longer.

5 out of 5 stars In Love with Charleston.......2006-07-26

My daughter had this book with her when we visited Charleston for the 2nd time. After reading it (couldn't put it down), we found more reasons to return to this wonderful area; learned more interesting facts about already viewed streets, homes and history. It is a light read with beautiful watercolor pictures throughout the book. Don't pass it up!

5 out of 5 stars Delightful!.......2006-03-09

The wonderful watercolor drawings and short descriptions make this book a must have for those people who have been (or will soon go) to Charleston, South Carolina. The spirit and color of Charleston is captured in this small volume. I traveled to Charleston with three other women and we all bought this book! One lady even used it as her trip journal, making comments in the book about places we had been. I bought one for another friend going to Charleston and she, too, loved this little book.

5 out of 5 stars Very Charleston.......2005-08-09

Very interesting little book with great illustrations. Gives insight to many of the things we South Carolians have always heard about Charleston like the derivation of Charleston Green paint, why the pineapple is a welcome sign, etc., etc.

5 out of 5 stars Joker, Smoker, Midnight Toker.......2006-02-11

Spliffs is written in british english so some of the slang may not make sense but don't let that sway you this is a great book. Including practically anything you ever wanted to know about marijuana and the delicate art of rolling spliffs (or joints). First read up on you marijuana history and learn things you never knew about your favorite smokable. Next take a look at an incredable collection of buds and hash from all around the world. Now after you clean up the puddle of drool at your feet you can experiment with some extraordinary joint rolling techniques. Although these can often be very time consuming they will make you the center of attention and get you way way way too stoned. You wont put the book down, that is untill your muscles have tensed up from excessive toking.

Everything that a smoker of marijuana could ask for. Buy it for your friends, your roommates, your boss or yourself. You wont regret it.

I got this book in a clothing store at the local mall, thought it looked like it would be fun to flip through when i'm... umm, spliffed. Great book, better than i had even hoped for. The history is very well done, and i would say its much more fun to look through than say, my copy of the Cannabible. With all the colors and pictures, its definately great to read under the influence, or even sober! Would reccomend to anyone.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars very informative.......2007-03-21

I first stumbled across this book at the library in the school where i work. As a first generation Chinese born in US, i was naturally curious about my heritage and why my family practiced certain traditions and what they all meant. This book answered many of the questions i had about our traditions and more. Not only does this book introduce all the "general" holidays and traditions of Chinese people, but it also explains the why and how to. Since our families are more assimilated into american culture, i wanted to know more about the practices so i could share them with my children. Also, there are differences in holidays and traditions by regions (northern, souther, etc.) across China, so this book has that disclaimer where it states how things are generally done and that there may be exceptions. Overall, after reading this book, i feel much more knowledgeable about what's appropriate and what's not during what occassion. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn more about Chinese culture and traditions.

3 out of 5 stars Fine not great.......2007-02-18

The book did answer a few questions for me, but was not exactly what I was looking for. It was weighed much more heavily towards explaining holidays and celebrations rather than culture, which was what I was more interested in reading about. Will keep looking....

5 out of 5 stars Basic Introduction.......2007-02-09

Great book that gives a basic overview of Chinese traditions. If you want to know more details,(such as the myths and Gods that relate to every event) there are other books. It is written in an easy format, very assessible to people who are not Chinese. I give it 5 stars for what it is-- an introductory-style book on Chinese traditions.

4 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Chinese holidays.......2006-12-25

This book is a great basic introduction to Chinese holidays. I was interested in learning more about Chinese holidays and what exactly they were about. I like how the book provides the background to the actual holiday and then goes into specifics about what Chinese people actually do during these holidays. The specifics include recipes and other activities. Overall the book is a fun read and makes for a great future reference.

5 out of 5 stars excellent book for chinese culture and celbrations.......2006-03-11

this is an excellent book in explaining whys, whats and hows in chinese cultural events. being 1/2 euro caucasian and 1/2 chinese and growing up with grandmother and father from china, i was always curious to why we did certain things and the reason why things are a certain way. this book explains all in detail and it also has EXCELLENT RECIPES for certain all time favorite dishes...this book made everything i grew up with become clear.
this is a keeper on the self for future reference and to share with other family members and friends.

Book Description

For eight wonderful years The Waltons, the story of a family living in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains during the Depression, entertained America and the world. Yet this television show was more than entertaining. Each episode combined wonderful stories and "teachable moments" in which adults and children alike learned the importance of honesty, hard work, respect, responsibility, self-sacrifice, and kindness. As is true in most families, the Waltons faced many challenges, occasionally stumbled along the way, but they struggled to live their lives within the framework of the values they believed and taught. Goodnight, John Boy is a memory book of The Waltons, the number-one television show of its time. Filled with behind-the-scenes anecdotes and profiles of people who appeared on the show, it introduces readers to the Hamner family members who later became characters on The Waltons, suggests events and locales that inspired many of the episodes, and traces Earl Hamner's life as a writer from Virginia to New York to Hollywood. Included is a description of each episode plus reminiscences, comments, and personal feelings from numerous people connected with the series—writers, actors, directors, producers, family, and fans. Heavily illustrated with publicity shots and personal photographs taken by cast, crew, and others, Goodnight, John Boy will be a welcomed book by millions of loyal fans. When The Waltons first aired in 1972, it was at the bottom of the Neilson ratings—by December it led the list. That dramatic leap came about because fans told their friends about it and wrote the CBS network to praise the show and to plead that the show not be cancelled. Thirty years later, Goodnight, John Boy is sure to touch the hearts of the show's fans again.

4 out of 5 stars Good story, John Boy.......2007-07-03

This is a genuinely lovely book that explores the life and work of Earl Hamner but, more importantly, this book has a synopsis of each episode and comments from the actors. I would highly recommend "Good Night, John Boy". It was a terrific summer read!

5 out of 5 stars A great companion to the television series........2007-06-15

This is an excellent companion guide to the television program (now up to its fifth season in DVD). It offers some good general info on how the series came about, as well as a description and some personal commentary on every episode. For anyone who may be interested, I am putting together a Bible study using The Waltons. It can be found online at AC21DOJ.org/AFruitfulBibleStudyWithTheWaltons.html

4 out of 5 stars Oh, well..........2007-03-09

The photos are great, and there was just a little information about the "real-life Waltons", but unfortunately the vast majority of the book is taken up with episode summaries. Not really what I was looking for, but it is valuable for a Waltons fan.

5 out of 5 stars Goodnight, John Boy: A Celebration of an American.......2007-01-19

Great book, Tells of Actors and history

5 out of 5 stars had to read it before giving it as a gift.......2006-09-23

I was a baby when this was on the air.. but recently i have been buying the walton dvd's for my parents as gifts, and got hooked on the Waltons as a result (wathing with mom is great bonding). so for my mom's birthday i decided to buy her this book (since season 4 isnt available yet). I was sure to order it in time to read it before i had to give it to her and I Love it, i will order the two movies Earl talks about that lead up to the series.. and i had NO idea he was the producer of the version of Charlottes web i adore. This is a wonderful gift for anyone who loves the waltons.

Book Description

A celebration of the 1960s, this encyclopedia profiles the 250 most interesting personalities who significantly changed popular culture, including musicians, actors, directors, artists, athletes, politicians, writers, and astronauts. Sidebars provide a trip down memory lane with lists including the top movies, television shows, cars, Bond girls, Playmates, concerts, and cameos in beach movies, plus a running calendar of "what happened on this date" that lines the margin of each page for a day-by-day review of the most influential decade of the 20th century.

5 out of 5 stars Time Capsule to A Treasured Time.......2007-07-06

Anyone who contrasts the stresses of the new century with this special decade in the last one, can really appreciate this book. It brings us back to a better time in our lives. Despite the Vietnam War, a lot was going on in America that could be celebrated, and this book brings it all back for us. Great antidote to high blood pressure! Great memory prodder! I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting the highlights of the sixties and the "cool" personalities who entertained us then, and, if only in the interest of spicing up the conversation at cocktail parties, I highly recommend absorbing the information in this book! -- Joanne ORoark, Santa Barbara, CA

3 out of 5 stars Not a complete disappointment, but still..........2007-05-12

A lot of the book is just a rehash of Strodder's Swingin' Chicks of the 60's. I was disappointed that there were not photos for each subject in the encyclopedia. That being said, this is still a good book to have, but a bit of a let-down if you are expecting the same quality as Swingin' Chicks of the 60's.

4 out of 5 stars Great fun, but do you agree with the emphasis?.......2007-04-17

First off, I agree with the majority opinion that THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SIXTIES COOL is great fun - since it came in I keep carrying it around to read one gripping entry after another. The emphasis is on people of the Sixties, and of quite a variety - singers, actors, athletes, artists, writers, politicians, astronauts - though entertainers are by far the majority. Also, the sidebars of data are very interesting and clever too. Srodder writes in a breezy, polished style that is very enjoyable, and he's either done a lot of research or just knows a heck of a lot about the era.

Still, I have a few reservations about the book. First off, one could debate the meaning of "cool" with the author. The vast majority of the book is devoted to famous entertainers - singers, actors, athletes. There are relatively few non-entertainers here, as, I was glad to see that Neil Armstrong of Moon fame gets his own entry, and some political figures like the Kennedys get theirs too. The ichthyologist Eugenie Clark made the list, but there aren't many scientists discussed in here. A few writers such as Kurt Vonnegut make it in. And some of the entertainers discussed are not even very significant, but are more cult figures. One could reasonably argue that it's just as "cool" to be making contributions to society in science, teaching, environmental protection, and the like as it is to be a famous entertainer. Strodder admits in the introduction that there was a lot he hated to leave out of his book, but with 334 pages to work with he had to draw a line somewhere. However, I'm probably trying to be too scholarly about it, since this book is clearly supposed to be fun, and relates mainly to popular culture that those who lived through the Sixties would most remember as being cool about the decade. Secondly, the book very much needs an index, or at least better cross-referencing. Most subjects have their own headings, arranged alphabetically. Yet there are a lot of people or things that are discussed under headings that you might not be able to guess. For instance, the comic strip Peanuts is discussed in the entry for the composer Vince Guaraldi, who wrote music for the animated Peanuts shows in the 1960s and '70s, yet there's no separate entry in the book for Peanuts or its creator Charles Schulz. Likewise, John Glenn and most of the other Mercury astronauts don't have separate entries, since they're discussed under "Alan Shepard." There are quite a few such examples, though there is some cross-referencing on the contents page.

Shifting back to what I like best about this EncyCOOLpedia, another aspect that I very much like is that Strodder tries to be positive, and focus more on what is good than what is bad about someone or something. And it's great that he always remembers to update us on "whatever happened to?" these people. All in all, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SIXTIES COOL is very enjoyable, and it's a fun way to learn about that fascinating decade.

5 out of 5 stars The Bible for Ring-a-Ding-Ding Revolutionaries.......2007-03-25

No other decade in modern history was as influential, eclectic and packed with passion as the 1960s. From politics to pop culture, the 60s offered an incredible array of sights, sounds and swingin' sensations. It was the decade of Batman, Bond, the Beatles, bongs, Barbarella, beatniks, beach bunnies and Bob Dylan. From the Rat Pack at the dawn of the decade to the Rolling Stones at its zenith, from Motown to monster movie magazines, from drive-ins to dope, the 60s offered something for jet setters, hippies, suburban kids, surfers, radicals and fun lovin' freaks alike. There were also the tragedies, like JFK, Bobby, MLK and Viet Nam, that still resonate and affect our world today. And let's not forget the sexual revolution underlying this tumultuous explosion of art and war. Chris Strodder has already given us an essential chronicle of this era's sexual icons with his colorful tome "Swingin Chicks of the 60s." Now he broadens his lens to give us a widescreen view of the entire decade, spotlighting all the major figures who had such a powerful impact on all of us born before, during and since, from Hugh Hefner to Abby Hoffman to Andy Warhol and everyone in between and beyond, encompassing an amazing array of styles and attitudes, all of which are still very much evident in today's kaleidoscope, retro-obsessed but identity-challenged culture. Get Smart and Ride this Wild Surf, kids. It's groooooovy.

5 out of 5 stars A great gift for yourself or loved one........2007-03-22

What a great book! A wealth of trivia, some of it well known, some not so. But all totally fascinating. We just kept turning the pages to find more & more interesting people & facts. Great also to see it covering more than just the States. The 60s were a world wide event & Chris has captured icons from across the globe.

4 out of 5 stars One of many of Nell Hill's decorating books..........2007-07-03

I found this book to have some good things and some so-so things about it.
First, the so-so things about it: I wish there had been more home decorating samples (examples). Only a few homes were the focus. Although the homes were gorgeous, and the china settings and decorations were VERY pretty, I wish there had been more ideas shown under each Season!

Second, please note that this is not a cookbook. The author does state this fact in the book. The very few recipes shown are not that inspiring and very basic. So please note that this is not a cookbook.

Now about the good things about this book: The photos are stupendous! I own other NELL HILL decorating books and the photos are always the very best! Also, the homes showcased are very pretty (ie: romantic like homes) , as were the china settings and glassware and flowers.

1 out of 5 stars Uninspiring.......2007-03-04

I found the clunky prose so irritating that any small pleasure I may have taken in this book rapidly disappeared.

According to the author, houses are always homes (and lovely homes, at that), food is invariably fare and home cooks are described as chefs. Even worse, after writing that she welcomes Spring into her house with seasonal bouquets, Ms Garrity informs her readers that, as she doesn't have a yard full of spring flowers, she relies on artificial (and can hardly tell the difference between faux and real). Hasn't she heard of florists? Doesn't the woman possess a sense of smell? Are fake branches really superior because they don't shed leaves all over the floor?

It was also a disappointment to see food mentioned as an afterthought and with far too much emphasis on buying, rather than preparing, a meal for friends. Part of the joy of entertaining (on a small scale at least) is serving food you've made yourself....not necessarily every dish but at least one course.

There were a couple of interesting ideas but, in the main, I found the tables to be uninspired and overdressed......you'd need a search party to locate the food. Serves me right for buying this book sight unseen - there's nothing here which would keep the divine Carolyne Roehm up at night.

5 out of 5 stars Nell Hill's Entertaining in Style: Inspiring Parties and Seasonal Celebrations.......2007-01-11

Another wonderful, inspiring, and beautiful book by Mary Carol Garrity. Now you must visit her in Atchison, KS. What a treat!

5 out of 5 stars The Best of the Nell Hill's books.......2006-11-02

This latest Nell Hill's book blew me away and I loved the other three. In my opinion this is the best of the collection. The ideas are fresh and different and the photographs are amazing. In this book, the reader gets more specific information than in her other books. The other plus included in this book are the recipes. Check out the Cream of Red Potato and Rosemary Soup on page 83.

2 out of 5 stars Least Favorite of 4 Nell Hill Books.......2006-10-06

I own all the Nell Hill books and this is by far and away my least favorite. The parties described in the book are not special - and the pictures are less than impressive. There is nothing new in this book - and the information presented is not specific enough. I wish the table settings were described in great detail. There are few fun things - the ideas of having a "sip and see" party to welcome a new infant is fun - but the decorations are not. The Nell Hill family of shops are terrific - but this book is a disappointment.

Great book. My almost [...] loves this book along with Peter's Chair. The pictures are beautiful and the story relatable to little ones. We plan on getting more Peter books.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Peter.......2007-01-04

This book in the Ezra Jack Keats series is wonderful. I am relatively new to this author but have fallen for all the books that my 3 year old and I have read so far. It is wonderfully illustrated and the simple text makes it a winner. A great addition to any childs library and a series that merits collecting.

5 out of 5 stars another great story with Peter and Willie.......2001-07-01

My two year old loves Whistle for Willie, and Goggles, both by Ezra Jack Keats. I brought home _A Letter To Amy_ from the library to let him have a look.

_A Letter To Amy_ is the story of Peter, who has an upcoming birthday. He wants to invite Amy with a letter, because she's a special friend. Peter is worried that the boys at his party won't like Amy because she's a girl. He writes a letter to Amy, and tries to mail it.

This book has the same illustration style as Whistle for Willie... very patchy, abstract, and easy to enjoy. The story is great. I know that older kids love Ezra Jack Keats' picture books-- and I'm telling you my 2 year old does, too!

He calls this book AMY BOOK, and we read it over and over again.

4 out of 5 stars Another Good Story from Ezra Jack Keats.......2000-07-31

This is a story of Peter who is having a birthday. He writes a special letter to Amy to invite her to the party. The other guests will be boys so he just asked them. As Peter went out to mail his letter Amy almost saw. He was not nice to her and thought see might not come to his party. The day for the party came and finally Amy arrived. The boys didn't like it because a girl was at the party. I thought this book would be a wonderful story to read in my first grade classroom. I could use it for a mini-lesson on how to write invitations and addressing envelopes. Also, it could be used to promote friendships between boys and girls.
