Book Description

Customer Reviews:
Good, but . . . .......2007-09-02
An excellent resource, however I would have liked to be able to give it 4.5 stars as the author is fairly preachy about how wonderful vegetable oils are, and how meat and meat products such as animal fats are always bad.
Has good info but...........2007-03-31
This book and the other I purchased in the series (The soapmakers companion) have good information but the author is really out of the loop when it comes to the internet age and finding information on line. Also the recipes she gives are for gigantic batches of soaps. For the beginning soapmakers they are dang near ridiculous in size for batches. I found the book Smart Soapmaking by Anne L. Watson much more geared towards beginning and intermediate soapmakers with much better information including wonderful resources for lye calculators and recipe calculators that you can set the superfat discounts and water % as well. Was much more resourceful to me than these books by cavitch.
One of the best on the subject........2007-01-18
Highly recommend this book. Easy to understand directions.
Good resource for new soapmakers........2006-09-21
I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning to make soap. After reading the book, I was hesitant with attempting to make soap since the author made it sound so complicated. (It took reading several other soapmaking books to get up the courage.) I use it more as a guide/advice book rather than a book for soapmaking recipes.
I have to say, though, that this book was written by someone who has had a lot of experience with soapmaking, and it is one of the few books I read that had a "troubleshooting" guide for soapmaking problems. My first attempt with soapmaking was a failure. The first batch came out powdery in some areas. The troubleshooting guide helped explained why.

Coming of Age & Self-Esteem.......2007-10-01
I would most definitely recommed this book to anyone. By no stretch of the imagination am I an adolescent, but someone mentioned the book to me and I was immediately interested. No matter who you are, what age or race, everyone can benefit from reading the story. It teaches a wonderful lesson in self-esteem and self-love.
The Skin I'm In.......2007-09-30
Give a real life prospective of what its like to be of a specfic racial background in today's world.
The skin we're all in.......2007-07-25
I'm starting to think that I'm a seventh grader in disguise. My daughter and I discovered Sharon Flake with MONEY HUNGRY but this one hit me just as hard, perhaps even harder. Who can't remember that feeling of being an adolescent with no choice? There are choices of course, but with the constructs of junior high, the cliques and the bullies, it can be hard to see what's black and white--even if that's the skin you're in. Another great novel from Ms. Flake.
Would you recommend this book to a friend?.......2007-07-07
I would recommend this book to a friend because it teaches that everything is not about what you wear, how popular you are, what you don't have, about your grades, or about how you look. It helps you cope with peer pressure. It encourages you to be who you are. The character, Miss Saunders, brings out the best in the main character, Maleeka, by helping her develop her talent. In the end, Maleeka overcomes peer pressure, stands up for herself against bullies, makes new friends and starts to feel good about herself and the skin she's in.
Too Much to Handle.......2007-05-19
"Too much to handle"
After reading, 'The Skin I'm In' by Sharon Flake I was more understanding toward things like the way teachers punish us for making fun of people.
I can somewhat relate to the main character Maleeka. She is always being picked on because of her dark skin and poverty. Sometimes I feel picked on simply by looking in the mirror. I immediately find something wrong with me it's like I am my own enemy. The fact that she looks towards books as support is like me except I look toward poetry.
In the middle of the book Maleeka gets in trouble for being involved in a fight and gets punished. But in the end she changes her point of view. I think that's mostly why I enjoyed the book.
After completing the book I realized how she got punished by not the teachers but by the students. They hurt her feelings horribly, and they didn't care. At first I thought the punishment students got were harsh but to think of the pain and misery they caused they deserved it. This book may be sort of a teenage novel it probably helps older people understand how teens feel.
This book may not be exciting or have you at the edge of your seat, but it certainly is entertaining. All the good work Mrs. Flake put in this book was recognized, by me!

Book Description
Magnificent color photographs and simple, engaging language capture the essence of one way we are special and different from one another-our skin color! Answers the "what and why" questions that children love to ask. Includes unique activity ideas.
Customer Reviews:
Profoundly simple and important. .......2007-05-20
Our culture does not know how to talk about race. This book is an amazing way to help children, not to mention adults, talk about race in simple and scientific terms. This book helps adults move through their own fears and talk about race in the matter-of-fact way children experience the world.
Simple, honest explanations.......2006-08-31
My 3-year old began asking lots of questions about the different people we know and their skin color. I looked everywhere for a simple, informative book. He loved the photos and the explanations that the color you are comes from 1) your family 2) the sun and 3)melanin. At the end the books asks where you think your ancestors came from (for instance somewhere very sunny). Any my son immediately replied: "Somewhere dark!" Indeed, he's right and now he understands why we come in different colors and sees this as interesting and wonderful. I read many other books on the subject but most are a celebration of racial differences which is great but did not help address a natural curiousity as to why. I highly recommend this book for those with young children asking questions about why people have different skin colors.
Very helpful.......2004-01-29
We live in a very small town and my 3 year old daughter goes to an in-home babysitter with only three other children, she is also the oldest child there. After routine T.V. time and Christmas shopping at the mall this past holiday season, my daughter began to ask questions. In early January, we bought a new car and the business manager that we did all of the paperwork with had a darker complexion, my daughter asked "mom, what color is he?". This embarrassed my husband and the next day I ordered "all the colors we are". My daughter likes the book because of all the pictures of real kids. She also has begun to point at different skin colors in the book and say "this one is pretty" and similar comments. She doesn't understand the melanin section yet but overall she likes the book and asks us to read it to her over and over.
It's OKAY..........2003-05-02
I personally like the book, but reading this to my kids was a drag. They wouldn't pay attention. They didn't care. And they said it was boring. The pictures are REAL pictures, and not illustrations.
My kids are 6 and 4 years old. Maybe in 2 or 3 years they'll appreciate it. I don't know.
Terrific book for use in the classroom.......2000-11-27
This is a great book for use in the classroom. It allows students to gain a better understanding of the differences among us and that these differences are not always black or white. This book is a good book to use in a literature focused unit on Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli.

1 Hour web site.......2007-08-09
Great! After reading the easy instructions, I was able to set up a web site in a very short time. The templates and skins are great.
This book worked for me!.......2007-02-26
My husband and I used this book to create a web site for our new business. And it really works!
There is a great selection of home page and sub page template styles (on the enclosed disk) to match your kind of business. There are also templates for personal and family web sites.
I must say that it took more than 1 hour. But you have to consider your content - that takes time to create. Plus, once you get inside the web page templates you may be tempted, as we were, to cut and paste button links. One thing leads to another...
To get the web site done, you only need to read the first three chapters plus the chapter that relates to your template.
There are areas for improvement - mostly in the area of adding things to your web site. But then, this is a get-it-done-fast book.
Overall, the book is astonishingly good value.

Easy to Use Web Templates.......2007-01-10
Creating a good web site requires both computer/technical and graphic design/artistic skills. If you have the technical background but are lacking in artistic talent, then templates will provide the "design" elements you are lacking.
The book advertises 120 templates on the accompanying CD, but that is really 40 different templates, each one provided in 3 color schemes for you to choose from. They provide a "home" page and 1 or more "subpage" styles for each template. There is a brief, simple explanation at the beginning of the book about types of designs and which type to use for what purpose. The designs are adequate for informational sites; they are not sufficient if you need interactive forms, shopping carts, flash, animation etc.
The other advantage of using a template is you do not have to learn any other software. The book explains how to open the files in an editor like Notepad, and simply find/replace their content with your content. The files have been set up with easy-to-identify "tokens" to find and replace. This saved me a lot of time because I didn't want to learn any other software. (Of course you can always open these files in your favorite program and edit them that way)
However, it is unlikely that any of the provided templates will suit your needs exactly - so it helps if you know enough html to be able to modify the html code - it will help to understand tables and cascading style sheets. If you use their templates "as is" and just replace content "tokens", you could likely create a home page in an hour.
If you have sufficient computer expertise and just need to get a simple, well designed web site up quickly, this book could be the answer. However, you must be flexible enough to either use one of the templates "as is" or modify the html code to suit your needs. So read the table of contents and check out the template categories, and make sure your website falls within at least one of those categories.
I was able to find a template that was close to my needs, and edit the html to modify it enough to suit my purpose. Since the template was created by a graphic designer, the site looks "professional". So this book suited my needs exactly.
highly recommend.......2006-11-30
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to create their own site. It's extremely readable and easy to follow for a beginner.

Book Description
After turning his lifelong obsession with famous girls on film into the Internet phenomenon known as MrSkin.com, the Skinmeister General has now compiled his expert knowledge and skinsationally witty way with a phrase into an authoritative, uproarious book that you'll never tire of flipping through---single-handedly, of course!Mr. Skin's Skincyclopedia compiles exhaustive information on more than two-thousand starlets and the films in which you can witness them free of clothing. Every actress bio contains a complete list of movies in which she's appeared naked, as well as the specific body parts that are exposed. In addition, Mr. Skin picks each star's Skinfining Moment--- the single skinematic high point that defines her carnal career. The Skincyclopedia also comes packed with top-ten lists, revealing quotes from the bare beauties themselves, and a host of rare, eye-popping photos---all delivered in Mr. Skin's signature puntastic style. Spanning nearly a century of cinematic history, the Skincyclopedia unveils the silver screen's naked truth from the silent era to the blockbuster to the straight-to-DVD age of today, along the way revealing the answers to questions such as: Did Marcia from The Brady Bunch ever bust out her Brady bumps? Can you name the 1990 flick that features Jennifer Connelly sunbathing nude? Is it Farrah's right or left Fawcett that takes flight in Saturn 3? What are the Top Ten Most Leztastic Girl-Girl Scenes of all time? Which twentysomething Hollywood honey once declared, "My boobs are fine---they go with my body"? How many Academy Award--winning actresses have displayed their Golden Globes on film? Got "furburgerage"? These and countless other fleshly film facts get laid bare in Mr. Skin's Skincyclopedia0, the definitive guidebook for the "movie buff" in all of us!

Skin is In!!!.......2007-05-29
From cover to cover this book is full of usefull knowledge. You can search by actress, movie, or tv show. I purchased this book for my brothers birthday. I even had to buy my own copy.
Decent book, but the website is incredible!.......2006-04-10
This book is decent enough, but not the Skincyclopedia it claims to be. As others have said, it is not kept up to date, and doesn't have complete listings including times. Mr. Skin's website, however, is the absolute ultimate! For simple reference, it's absolutely free and complete resource constantly updated. For a fee, it will give you film clips and still photos of all the scenes mentioned!
So, this is a very basic reference, but the website is the ultimate guide.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!.......2005-11-19
Not sure where to start and I don't want to write to see how i write. Mr. Skin must be getting commissions on the orders readers make per his recos. He and his group don't see "naked" with the same criteria. Some descriptions are understated, most are overstated.

Teenage girls often want sensitive answers to tricky questions about their skin, hair, makeup, and bodies. Well, Bobbi Brown's your woman! Beauty editor of the NBC Today show and coauthor with Annemarie Iverson of Bobbi Brown Beauty, Brown's hope is that teen girls will learn to recognize their own natural beauty and simply bring it out with makeup and healthy living. She specializes in the "makeunder," insisting that makeovers "tend to involve lots of makeup and a masking of who you really are." Teenage Beauty is "the ultimate beauty guide for young women. It takes the mystery out of all those confusing rituals so that you can figure out how to feel happier and more relaxed about your looks." Thirty chapters, packed with close-up photos of regular, everyday girls (as well as one or two celebrities!) include titles like "Zits!" Sorry..........2007-09-09
but this is NOT a makeup guide. It's a pep talk about having good self esteem and good hygiene. I can get that from my parents. There are a few tips, but they are only useful if you have absolutely NO idea what to do with makeup. Don't waste your money.
If you like paying makeup artists to tell you not to wear makeup..........2007-05-09
...then you should buy this book. I received this book as a gift when I first started makeup, supposedly to teach me how to use it. Instead of concrete tips about applying eyeliner and which way to stroke on my mascara, I was hit with a barage of self-esteem building tripe and stern instructions not to try experimental makeup unless my friends said it looked okay. I am glad I was not the one paying retail prices for this book.
Not quite..........2007-04-18
This book was almost a complete waste of time. Why almost? It offered a few good tips for teenagers who are beginning to use makeup (emphasis on the "few"). However, not everyone wants the natural look, and not every teenager is a beginner. Also, Bobbi tends to overgeneralize and neglects to consider the self-esteem of those who have blonde hair and blue eyes (like me). I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, even beginners. There are books written by makeup artists who don't want to be the Hitler of the makeup world.
Best Make Up Book For a Teen.......2006-10-20
This book is truely a great make up boook for teens. Definetly a good book for beginners. Of course, if u are already a girl that reads fashion/beauty magazines, then there isnt anything new here...
Bobbi Brown encourages teens to love themselves. In fact, she dedicates an entire chapter for this. I am Chinese and i guess I've always hated my appearence(black hair, black eyes. UGH! so dull) But i guess i've started feeling better about myself ever since i read the chapter about asian girls. There is also a chapter for african americans and latino girls.
I think that if you are a mom, this would make a great gift for your daughter because you wont have to worry about your daughter masking her face cimpletly with make-up. Bobbi brown encourages teens to not use make up like that.....
There's a section for eyes, nose, lips. They have really made me feel better about myself. The same with girls body frames. There is a particular section there. She assures girls that are big-boned or with slow metabolisms that in other countries being overweight is considered attractive. The same with tall, short,or skinny girls! She even gives fashion tips to help flatter your figure.
There are all the beauty things youll need to know. Perfume, hair, eyes, nose, zits, make up tecniques, different "looks" etc. etc.
Today i have lent the book to me best friends, if she damages it. SHE 's a DEAD girl!
-Candi
Great Book for Teens.......2006-08-18
I bought this as a gift for my 12 year-old niece. I read it before I gave it to her to make sure it was appropriate. I LOVED THIS BOOK. Bobbi addresses the girls as peers, tells them to love their looks, particularly those things which make them "unique"- freckles, a strong nose, etc., and urges them to use make-up primarily as an enhancement. She also discusses skin care, hair care, and shows before and after pictures. I want to get the one for adults, and I already plan on buying one for my own daughter when she is older.

Book Description
No one can tell that Daphne Urban is a vampire. But the government knows-and she's been recruited to spy for them. To get over a recent break-up, Daphne must throw herself into her work, joining her colleagues to chase down a ruthless enemy. Mysterious, cruel, and unstoppable, this assassin is dead-set on killing a certain presidential candidate. Now Team Darkwing has to find him before it's too late. But soon, Daphne finds herself drawn back into the life she once rejected: a secret vampire underworld, where all pleasures-like human blood-can be found.

Predictable!.......2007-06-09
Part of the enjoyment of reading the book is trying to figure out who Gage was or is. But it was very evident and the only question was which side Tallmadge was on. Very light reading with a little comedy and a lot more sex. I probably will keep on reading this series but I would like more content.
A decent read.......2007-05-09
A repeat of the first two books - if you liked them, you will like this one. The character's issues with her mother are getting a bit tiresome. After the third book, you would think the author could resolve those issues with mother and the old boy friend.
Haven't been disappointed in this series yet!.......2007-03-22
I loved this book, as I did the other two in the series. I think one reason I enjoy Daphne so much is that she has been around a long time and she still hasn't worked out all the kinks in her life. She occasionally knows she is screwing up, but does it anyway.
I wished there was more Darius in this book, but perhaps that will be remedied the next go around.
I find this series and all of Ms. Russe's characters interesting and entertaining and look forward to the next book.
Provocative, timely urban fantasy.......2007-03-09
Right on target with a plot right from today's headlines, Beneath the Skin delivers a suspenseful tale of the attempted assassination of a green/antiwar black presidential candidate. The writing is smart, fast, often funny, and gripping. Daphne gets to fulfill our fantasies in both fighting the bad guys and hot sex. She's a modern superheroine...brave, conflicted, and full of surprises. Savannah Russe is getting better and better...and the stories are top notch.
Spy Girl Gets Rocks Off; Does Little Esle.......2007-03-06
I was so dissapointed! The first installments in this series were very good and I was hoping for another tasty serving. Our strong heroine Daphne spent most of the book in a huge grumpy hissy fit however. And when she wasn't doing that she was getting it on with just about every male in the book except Cormac who's gay.
The main mission in the book was glossed over to the point that it was carried out in the Epilogue! They figured out who the baddy was but let them get away and they are still on the lamb- and frankly they weren't that enigmatic a figure. The newest member of the team was useless. The only new characters that I found interesting were Daniels who the assasination attempt is on and Fud, an ex mafia hit man with a speach impediment.
Daphne didn't even have a nice wardrobe in this book, which was a fun part of her other tales.
I'm sure I'll still pick up the next installment whenever it comes out. But for right now I'm bitterly disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Amazing.......2007-10-02
I cannot say enough. After chemo my always previously youthful over 55 skin had sagged, bagged and wrinkled to a disappointing degree. I could not believe that just 7 days could possibly make a difference, but I had to try it. All I can say is "WOW"! My jaw line is firmer than ever and those awful new wrinkles are a lot less defined. I also love that now I can express myself in so many new ways, or had forgotten, because I am in touch with my face from the inside!
Very Good!.......2007-09-24
This book is really good. I've been practicing the exercises for 10 days, and I can really see a difference. The overall look of my skin has improved. My face looks less tired and with a nice glow.
The only thing that could be improved about the book is the explanations. Sometimes you can get confused as how to perform the movement correctly.
Still, my opinion about the exercises is very positive. I highly recommend facercise.
Outstanding.......2007-09-21
HI! This is Tree Feller's Office Manager: Carole Maggio is a genius with an unfailing sense of perspective and very funny all at once. The exercises work to produce the desired results. Extremely useful after chemo therapy when everything seems to sag prematurely and you want to be happy about your situation, but your face is, well, hanging down. I think I will keep this up for ever, since, I seem to be getting results on droopy areas that seem to run in the family... i.e., these were'nt exactly new, but they sure have improved to better than before! Very exciting. Thanks so much to Carole for making faces in front of a camera so the rest of us could benefit. Oh, and pay close attention to those pictures... her example may take more mind over matter than it seems after the beginner's luck, honeymoon phase passes. Again, she is a genius!
WOW-Facercise is the Fountain of Youth in a Book.......2007-06-20
The thrill of being in control of your appearance and not subject to time is the gift of knowledge that Carole Maggio gives every dedicated student in this book. I saw results in a couple of days, first as my eyes widened and next my chin line began to firm, all this and much more happened within the first 5 days. As I continued to do the Facercise Exercises my face continued to firm, tone and take on a more radiant appearance. I also had TMJ before using these exercises, that is now gone.
The exercises are clear, concise and easy o follow. Carole is straight forward and helps you cut the time down it takes to do the exercises with her tips. I have also used Carole's other products-DVD's, CD's and her skin care products--which have helped my skin even more. Like the exercises they are targeted and precise, so you use only a few products to have good skin without spending a fortune. With Facercise there is NO NEED for surgery, ever!
My next step is to get a privae lesson designed just for me -on the exercises-with Carole or one of the individuals she has trained that are in different cities around the country, even in Hawaii. This will take me to the next level, so I can build on what I have learned in the Facercise Book.
Carole Maggio Facercise: The Dynamic Muscle-Toning Program for Renewed Vitality and a More Youthful Appearance (Revised, Updated)
Thank goodness for this Wonderful Book,it has shown me that I am in control over my looks and that I can "bend time the other way"!
non-surgical facelift.......2007-05-16
It makes sense. Just as you need to exercise the rest of your body, you need to exercise the face to keep the muscles toned like when you were young. Carole shows you how. Why go through the trauma and danger of surgery when you can tone you face naturally? An excellent book!

The best book I have read dealing with body image.......2007-05-24
I just want to say that this is one of the best books that I have read dealing with body image. This has been something that I have dealt with for many years like I am sure most women do. This is a life changing book if you take it serious. I suggest you answer all the questions in a journal. I think that it is a book that all women should read. Each of us deal with this issue in one way or another. It would take pages for me to say how it has changed my view of myself. It really teaches you how God looks at you. It is an amazing eye opener to read this book. I highly recommend this book. Absolutely the best.............Lori Smith
