Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Apart from the fact that my copy was close to pocket size, i thought that this book was fantastic. Not only does it come filled with amazing concepts, it also is accompanied with the Lion King Storyline. As an illustrator and student animator, it is a wonderful addition to my resources. The sketches through to the complete full colour images are for any Lion King fan, artists or just someone wanting a beautiful coffee table book. If your from overseas like myself and cannot get these kind of books in Australia, i reccommend Amazon and their associate stores. Buy this, its great.

I received this book as a birthday present last month. To say the least, I was overwhelmed with all the artwork in this book. I love it! The artwork and production animation is breathtaking! It's a really awesome book, I'd get it if I were you! You can't go wrong with "The Art of The Lion King"!!!

This book is one of the most exquisite things to come out of The Lion King. The graphics are beautiful. Most of the pictures are ones that are used for the storyboard and layout scenes. I reccommend it to anyone who loves The Lion King, or just Disney in general. Order with confidence - the book is worth much more than its price tag. It is also much more convient than the larger, more expensive version which I believe is no longer being produced.

Great book for animation art lovers........1998-10-01

This book is great if you like to see all the art work that was created during the development of the movie as well as the finished scenes. They show you a lot of the concept art that was used so that you get a sense of how ideas developed and gives you a glimpse behind the scenes. The book is mostly pictures with less explanatory text than you usually see in similar books. So it's mostly a book to look at as opposed to reading. It's great if you enjoy looking at animation art.

Gorgeous FICTIONAL story of great king with FACTUAL epilogue.......2005-12-21

If you are looking for a strictly historical book, go elsewhere. The main story is entirely fictional. However, it is beautifully told and gorgeously illustrated, and it is well researched historical fiction. No, we know nothing of the childhood of the famous Mansa Musa--however, the portrayal of the cultures and ways of life of the people is vivid and accurate, and this legend-like tale will surely gain a deserving place in the canon of children's literature.

For educational use, this is of fairly limited *factual* use because of the dearth of written accounts about Mansa Musa and his reign and, as a result, the fictional nature of the main narrative. However, the epilogue is factual (if not completely impervious to debate), and the entire book would be great as a fictional supplement to the study of the Middle Ages, especially as it takes the point of view of a non-Western culture and focuses upon an important historical figure who is often glossed over (because of lack of information and his lack of impact upon the West) in typical courses of study.

This book also does NOT have a militant, strident Afrocentric agenda, as, unfortunately, many American-published books about African culture have. It would be excellent for people of any background who enjoy history, good story-telling, and breathtaking illustrations.

There is a great deal of historical evidence in support of the mighty empire of Mali and the trek of the great king Mansa Musa across the Sahara Desert to Mecca. Some European historical accounts have him listed as the king of all of Africa. There is solid historical evidence that he lived in the early 1300's and further evidence that a mighty fleet of ships departed from the kingdom and made landfall in the Western Hemisphere during his reign. This would mean that their arrival predated the voyage of Christopher Columbus by almost two centuries.
This story is an account of the life of Mansa Musa before he became king, and while the background is historically accurate, most of the account of his life before he became king is fictional. Some of it is based on cultural myths that are still part of the Mali culture, but it is clear that there were once mighty empires in Africa. I found this book very interesting because it tells of an aspect of African history that we in the west rarely if ever hear about. The empires of Egypt and Nubia are part of the historical education of every western child, but the mighty nations that once existed in other parts of Africa are largely ignored. Most of the Africans captured and sold into slavery were from the northwest section of Africa and it is a western cultural myth that they were savages. From the historical events on which this book is based, a strong and civilized nation existed in that area several centuries before the slave trade began.
The authors do a good job in writing about the early life of Mansa Musa. It is an appropriate blend of a story for children with just enough adult features to make it appeal to all ages. Once I completed the book, my interest was so aroused that I did an online search for books on Mansa Musa and the empire of Mali.

Missing Chimes.......2007-07-28

I love the read along books for my pre-reader, but this one doesn't have the chimes telling her to turn the page. She needs help every couple of minutes finding what page the recording is on.

Needs more variety of voices.......2007-05-12

While my kids enjoy listening to the stories that they know so well, they get bored easily since with the voice never changing. They don't use the various character voices in telling the story as they do in other disney CDs that we have. The songs and poems that are on the CD sound silly even to my kids who always ask me to skip those--they should have used a song from the movie if they wanted to include music on the CD. I'd recommend the Disney read-along CDs over this as those use character voices and are more interesting/dramatic to listen to.

I have bought all of the CD Storybooks and they have all been well worth the money. I will continue to buy them as they become available. However the one thing that I wish they would get back to is having the stories read by the actual characters themselves. The first Winnie the Pook storybook and the storybook with Bugs Life, Monsters Inc and Toys Story 1 & 2 all were read with the voices of the actual characters. It was great! Then when I bought the new ones it's a womans voice for every character and the narrator. Guess we are just spoiled. It's still worth the money and I would recommend them to anyone who wants a little peace and quiet in the car! tee hee

My son LOVES it!.......2005-09-11

I felt compelled to review this, because unlike two of the other reviewers, I LIKE that there is no indication to "turn the page." The book is good, but the audio CD is even better. My son got one of these (actually slightly different, it has the "Nemo" story on it and one other that is different) for his 3rd birthday, and wants to listen to it EVERY night while he is falling asleep. I was looking on amazon to buy another one (with different stories). The woman's voice who is the narrator is very pleasant. I think it would be very annoying if there was a "beep" or "turn the page" indicator on the CD, especially for those children, like my son, who like to listen to it as a bedtime story.

You saw the animated film, you bought the video, you couldn't get tickets to the stage show--here's the coffee-table book. Perfect!.......2007-07-13

I came home from a production of The Lion King staged in Appleton, Wisconsin, and was so enthralled I immediately set out to find out "How did they do that?" This book met and exceeded by expectations. I am an amateur costumer and puppeteer and this just the stuff to bring a smile to my face. Before this book I was not aware of Julie Taymor by name (Sorry, from a small town, don't get out much) but I will be looking for her work from now on.

I have seen the stage production of the Lion King twice--in Toronto and East Lansing, MI. Vendors offered a souvenir photo brochure for $20. For only a few dollars more, I purchased Julie Taymor's book from Amazon describing one of the most amazing creative achievements I have ever seen. Get the book! See the show!

Just what I was after..........2005-09-29

This book shows the "creation story" of the Lion King musical. Photos of the workshopping teams in their studio/s, sketches of early ideas, through to finished costuming displayed on the artists themselves.

A pity this book was not available in Australia, but thanks to Amazon I received it in about 3 weeks total.

Better than this..........2005-09-25

...is seeing the show live. From intellectual concept, to extensive and authentic research, to development with constant referral to the physical, metaphysical, intrinsic, to the workshop...to the stage. One will see that Julie Taymor was THE RIGHT visionary to not only help in the translating an animated film to live theater, but to also retain the human moral behavior and lessons that are paramount for the existence of all people.

The Lion King on broadway is by far the best most amzing show ever created. Whats so amazing is that the book is as good as the musical. Without Julie Taymor the lion king would not be such a huge success as it is and you find all about this in the book. Some of the pictures of the show itself and the costumes are just wonderful which makes the presentation of the book even more wonderful. I dont even read books but am findin it very hard to put this down and read it over and over again. Pride of Lions, by Morgan Llywelyn, is the sequel to Lion of Ireland, a fictional account of Brian Boru, High King of Ireland. Pride of Lions follows the children of Brian Boru as they struggle in the political and social chaos of Ireland after the Battle of Clontarf, which resulted in a victory of the Irish over Vikings but loss of Brian Boru and his heir. The story is from the point of view of Brian's youngest son Donnchad or Donough as he prefers to be called. Donnchad is the son of Brian and his 2nd wife Gormlaith.

Donough has struggles to learn politics as he tries to emulate his father in every way. He fights many fronts socially in his family as he is torn between supporting his one remaining half brother Teague, who is older and claims the Kingship of Munster. He is also driven by his Mother who is ever working her political schemes for gain and revenge. He finds love in a Druid woman yet struggles to make a marriage and political alliances through his sisters' husbands who includes the King of Dublin and King of Scots. His wife is tied with the Saxon and Dane families in England, and helps Brian lay a foundation for his ultimate goal of claiming his father's title of High King of Ireland.

He is frustrated and young and seems to struggle on every front. At times while reading this book I felt the same feelings. It is definitely a different story than Pride of Lions. I didn't like the path the book was taking and yet was saved in the final chapters. The ending wonderful and I truly loved Donough's final choices. He proves that one can be successful by not repeating history. Donough showed he can live up to his father's fame and learn from his mistakes. I love the path Morgan Llywelyn took and the message sent. Pride of Lions is a lesson in life, achievement and self-worth as well as a great book and wild ride.

There's one thing..........2006-05-05

There's one thing I love about Llywelyn. She writes this book in short chapters. I mean short. Seriously, if I ever become a novelist, this is how I will write. Andrew M. Greeley does the same thing and look at him. You pick up the book - right before bed - and you say, "oh, just a chapter before bed." Ten chapters later, 15 minutes later, you think, "Well that wasn't so bad.... ANOTHER CHAPTER THEN!!" It goes like that until you're bleary-eyed and exhausted, but the book is finished and you're headed off to the used book store to trade it, because everyone loves to read Llywelyn and you know they'll take it.

I know, I should be commenting on the plot, the depth, the scope, the RESEARCH. Honestly, I could care less. It was pretty interesting as a read, it didn't say much you don't already know (if you like reading about the Irish, which I do), and it went quickly. Great for a read while on the beach really. You just don't have to think too much about it, and you certainly don't have to read any paragraphs twice to get-the-deeper-meaning. After a long day at the office, that suits me just fine.

These Lions Also Roar!.......2005-02-15

I couldn't get enough of "Lion of Ireland", so "Pride of Lions" was a natural next-read. This book, like the first, was also virtually impossible to put down, although I have to admit may not be as good as the first. The ways that the different players scheme to align themselves to Brian Boru's crown is very enjoyable to follow, but the ending leaves something to be desired. I won't give it away, but the ending almost leaves the reader feeling as though the book was rushed and the ending had to be thrown together quickly. Other than that, the book is a very worthy to successor to the story of Brian Boru, and a very fascinating look at the dark and bloody past of the Irish.

minority report.......2004-02-20

I guess I am in the minority here since I didn't think this book was anywhere close to Lion of Ireland. While Pride of Lions proves to be very readable and somewhat interesting book, I thought it was pretty lightweight material and it really wasn't that exciting as Lion of Ireland. I supposed there were few good spots but overall, the book slogs through the story.

I think the weakness lies in the length. My paperback version got only 395 pages. This story needs more. But what this story really need was a character, interesting, heroic and true and to be honest, the lead character Donough really don't fit the mode.

While I enjoyed Lion of Ireland, this follow-up book falls short. This doesn't mean you shouldn't read it if you enjoyed the first book. Just be prepared that maybe it won't taste good as it smell.

Great beginning, falls flat.......2002-11-19

In her follow-up to the wonderful "Lion of Ireland," Morgan Llywelyn picks up where she left off, spinning the tale of Donough, Brian Boru's eldest surviving son. Her vivid style and talent with words continues the legend she brought back to life with her previous novel. The battle in which Donough, his troops battle-ravaged and starving, face their enemies as hundreds of CuChullains will bring chills to your spine as you read. However, although the novel starts off with the potential to live up to her previous triumph, the book comes to an all to quick and unsatisfying ending.

These books have great illistrations and a plesant voice reading the story. I ordered this for my 4 year old and the only problem is that it doesn't have a signal to turn the pages. It will be a great when she is ready to learn to read. It is also great for bedtime, we put the cd on and let her fall asleep to the story. She love this. I would totally recommend this product.

Do NOT buy this book if your child cannot read. There is no cue to turn the page. Why would a company make such a ridiculous item? Who do they think is buying these books? We buy them because our children can't read.

Read Along But No Help on when to Turn the Page.......2006-03-27

Isn't the idea behind a read along to help pre & early readers learn? There is no tone or anything indicating when to turn the page. This is very frustrating for my son who just turned 4 and received this as a birthday gift. Generally he loves these books. They are a great quiet time activity that he can do alone and they foster early reading skills. BUT...without helping him know when to turn the page it isn't any help at all, and he needs constant help. We do a lot of reading together, however, I intended this to be something he could do on his own. A BIG disappointment for both of us!

A Joyous day dawned in the Pride Lands. A lion prince had been born! The animals gathered at Pride Rock to celebrate the Circle of Life.They bowed low as the wise babon Rafiki held Simba high. King Mufasa and Sarab watched their cub prodly.
But one animal was missing from the craud. Scar,Mufasa's brother, did not want to see his new nephew. "It must have slipped my mind,"scar told Mufasa. scar had hoped to become King when Mufasa's rule ended. Now he knew that Simba would become the next Lion King.
To try toget him out of the way. Scar set a trap for young Simba and his friend Nala. He tricked them into exploring on elephant graveyard. to make sure that Simba didn't come back, scar sent three hungry hyens to meet him.
Mufasa resued the young cubs. He did not know about scar's tric. He only knew that he was disappointed in his son for talking foolish chances scar was upset for a different resson: simba was still alive scar led Simba to a deep canyon and starter a stampede to crush him.

I have not seen the movie, I heard it was scary for little kids. My 2 1/2 old loves this book, she asks for it again and again. I bought the CD and every time we get in the car she wants Lion King music. She knows all the characters, and even can tell me who is singing right from the book. Very well done. It gets the point across of what happens without being too scary (although I did have to explain to her why Mufasa can't come back anymore).

The book shows only a few poses for each character, and no specifics on character design. That means that you will only be able to draw each character in 1 or 2 poses, and you will not be able to create pictures on your own (of other poses) unless you have a basic understanding of illustration and anatomy.

I have 5 volumes of the HOW TO DRAW series and I think this is very good one because it shows a variety of different characters, not just the title hero in different stages... It's a perfect reference book if you want to try your hand at drawing. Beginners will find it a challenge to "copy" a given picture following the step by step instructions. Artists with some experience will find the hints and a glance at the techniques used helpful. I missed Nala, that's my only critic!

How to Draw The Lion King from Disney is a very helpful guide to the aspiring Disney Animator. I bought it last winter at Disneyland and I couldn't wait to get home and start drawing! The pages are colorful, and the characters' proportions are displayed nicely; a great book. I would recommend buying it from Amazon. -= MG
