Book Description
A woman named Cynthia Garcia is stabbed to death and dumped in the Arizona desert after partying at a Hells Angels clubhouse in Arizona; three bullet-ridden bodies of bikers turn up in a river in Holland; a retired policeman is killed when his car is bombed in Australia. Meanwhile, the world’s most famous Hells Angel, Sonny Barger, is feted by the media on his global book tour. Angels of Death takes readers to Arizona, inside the biggest American police undercover operation to infiltrate the bikers; to British Columbia, Canada, where wealthy bikers dominate the organized crime pyramid; to Australia where the “bikies” shoot-it-out with police; to Curaçao where terrorist organizations funnel drugs to Dutch bikers; and to the streets of Oslo, Copenhagen, and Helsinki where a murderous biker war saw rocket attacks and bombs turn Scandinavia into a war zone.
While the media has continued to toast the Hells Angel icon Sonny Barger as an American legend, the facts tell another story — they are America’s major crime export. With an estimated 2,500 full-patch members in 25 countries, the Hells Angels have inspired a global subculture of biker gangs that are among the most feared and violent underworld players.

Riveting and Dangerous.......2007-07-08
The Angels of Death is riveting book about the Hells Angels quest for global domination. Reads like a thriller where the most exciting part is about ATF's undercover operation. Well recommended and hard to put down.
Angels of Death: Inside the Biker Gangs' Crime Empire.......2007-03-31
good account of the Hells Angels activity, related in an entertaining manner.
Angels of Death: Inside the Biker Gangs' Crime Empire.......2007-01-04
This is a great book - -there are a lot of facts so it isn't an easy read but very interesting just the same!
Yeah, but it's a solid 4 stars!.......2006-11-23
If this is your kinda subject matter, you'll dig it! I couldn't put it down, eventhough there's alotta names and dates, and this baby is global in coverage, it'll captivate ya. Exciting and in-depth, it's a ride from cover to cover. On par with the other Canadian OMG authors, both in depth of content, and their tendency to believe in known fallacies with mythical proportion, eh! I woulda thrown up a firm five, but they hadta print the rubbish. Still pretty damn good though.
Angels of Death.......2006-07-31
I bought this book for my boyfriend and he said he could not put it down - when I awoke the next day he was still in the living room reading!

serious training for anyone wanting to become a serious rider.......2007-09-21
This is a great book on mountain biking fitness training, not a book on technique is that's what your after....i have been riding mountain bikes for 2 years now and have improved my fitness over this time[also lost 25kgs somewhere along the way!!]...After riding socially i found myself wanting to do more and so i entered a race, and have now started racing on a regular basis. I found i had hit a plateau in my fitness, and not able to pay for a full time coach[or justify the cost of one to my wife]... i figured i needed a book to gain some information.
I found this book is an alternative to anyone who can't afford a coach I have read through it twice now [the second time with a highlighter pen and sticky tabs to note important sections]...
The book offers me a clear and simple training program to adhere to...and offers valuable info relating to pre race preparation...Improving lactate thresholds was a major area i needed to work on and having riden with my new training program i find i am leaving my riding buddies behind whom would normally beat me...I find that my fitness level is improving daily and the better i feel on the bike the more fun i have...I ride around 230kms a week these days[80% on single track], and i have more energy than i have ever had before[and i am 42 yrs young heading towards 21]
To sum up, this book has taught me to become my own trainer/coach. I find myself with more energy at the times i need it[especially race times] which was always a lottery ticket before...if you are a serious mountain bike rider or a beginner wanting to become one, i suggest this book is for you[on the other hand if you are one of my competitors disregard all of the above comments]
Thanks Joe Friel
Well-Organized Information.......2007-04-09
Climb those mountains faster and ride longer with this reference book for series mountain bikers. These tips will help you become one of the greats.
Good book.......2007-03-27
I liked the approach of the book, with some helpful tips and ideas.
What it claims to be.......2005-09-07
I raced to win the overall expert category title in my age group in the Intermountain Cup Race Series (the tri-state race series for Utah, Wyoming, Idaho) in 2002. How? Hard work, natural ability, and this book.
The criticisms against this book posted here are unfair ("weed hound"? sounds like something only a "weed hound" would say). This book is not an instructional book for beginners. Simply put, this book is a guide for serious athletes to become elite racers in the discipline of mountain bike racing, who chose to coach themselves. Training for mountain bike racing is similar to but different in terms of particulars from any other sport, and this book unpacks all of the information you could possibly need to set up a perfect training program. And there is A LOT of information to be had.
But what about technique? Well, bike handling isn't technically part of developing a training regimen. Again, this book is what it claims to be, not what you might want it to be. And if you're looking for information like that, you're not ready for this book. As in any sport, the need for a comprehensive book on serious training is really only appropriate for those already seriously racing. If that's you and you don't have this book, now you know what the winners are reading and doing. Don't believe me? As them. Not a single top athlete I have talked to doesn't use this book, unless they are paying for a personal coach out the wazoo.
It made me faster and last longer!.......2003-12-22
I began mountain biking February of this year('03). I threw up on my first ride. I raced my first race in April and came in 22nd of 24 finishers. I bought this book in May. About five months later I was flying through our local tough park, Markham maintained by ClubMud.org (believe it or not we have some decent cross country MTB parks in Florida). I went from a best single lap of over an hour to multiple laps of 45mins each. In the fall Ford Tough Series I placed 2nd overall in my category (Men Beginner 30-34). What a rush!
The book was hard to read at first. Mainly because I wanted it to hand feed the training procedures to me. It finally dawned on me that it was training material for the self-coaching athlete that I, my own coach, had to put into a regiment based on my needs. It required that I get in tune with my body and its needs. I still reference it and still realize things in it I didn't before. The nutritional information was a big help in modifying my diet without dramatically impacting my family's eating habits. This is a book you have to read from cover to cover to get the most out of it. It's also wise to take the book's advice when taking training seriously and ease your body into it(although no-pain-no-gain does apply). I went from the slowest guy amongst my friends to the fastest after about eight weeks into the book. If you're not serious enough about getting faster to shut off the TV and read for a while for a couple of weeks than pass the book and stick to the magazines with all the pictures of guys you could otherwise be.
Thanks Joe Friel.

More entertaining than informative.......2007-09-02
There are several tid bits of useful information in the realm of adventure travel.
This interlaced with personal stories makes for an entertaining read.
Although not as nuts and bolts as "Adventure Motorcycling Handbook" I would consider it a welcome addition to my collection although not an entirely necessary one.
One of the best two books in motorcycle travel.......2007-04-25
Great book. It will give you great advise in how to prepare for your next adventure. Great for beginners and experts as one never stops learning. This book along with Adventure Motorcycling Handbook are the best investments you can make in literature for your bike adventure ( along with your bike's specific repair manual). Buy it, you won't regret it.
Riding the world.......2006-03-28
Very enjoyable book with a wealth of information for the motorcycle traveler.
disappointingly vague.......2005-09-14
Greg Frazier has been around the world 4 times on a motorcycle, clearly he has a wealth of knowledge and experience, but mostly only disappointingly vague generalities are included in the book.
The chapter on shipping motorcycles starts "There is no one simple way to ship your motorcycle across the US or around the globe." This is something I already knew before I bought the book! Describing the details of shipping his bike from Vladivostok to Los Angeles, Greg writes "Three weeks went by; then, the Russian air cargo company demanded an additional 25% be wired to a numbered account." Readers seriously contemplating a RTW trip will want to know: How much was the originally quoted cost? What was the name of the company? Did they offer any explanation for the cause of the delay? Instead of helping readers avoid a similar bad situation, this story included in "Riding the World" may only be repeated time and again by RTW riders because readers are not given enough information to avoid the shipping company Greg used.
Many readers will be interested in the amount of money a RTW motorcycle trip may cost. From the book: "One American couple spend between $250k and $300k on their ride around the world. At the other end of the scale, there are riders who claim to have spent only about $10 per day." What would be tremendously illuminating here would have been the inclusion of Dr. Frazier's own data from his rides: year(s) of ride, days riding, days not riding, amount of cash spent of gas, oil, maintanence, border/customs fees, mechanical difficulties encountered, and shipping the motorcycle as well other expenses. Indeed, a modestly detailed 5-10 page write up of each of his RTW trips with included map and financials could have easily made this a 5 star book. The world being a continuously changing place, I doubt anyone would expect or want to identically duplicate anyone's prior trip, but specific knowledge of what someone did experience before may give the first timer a basis of what to expect on a RTW trip.
Putting down the book, I really can't say that I have any greater knowledge of how to plan and what to expect on a RTW motorcycle trip than before I bought the book.
However, the details on preparing a Kawasaki KLR 650 and BMW GS motorcycle are reasonably well done (and the only thing in the book that buoyed my rating to 2 stars instead of 1).

Jim Rogers Cycles Money.......2007-05-15
I read this a few years ago and gave it to someone who has enjoyed motorcycles and has been investing for years. We both gained from reading it.
I don't bike and am relatively new to investing, but both of us found the adventure yarn interesting and a good way to get a better appreciation of world economies. An easy entertaining way to gain an understanding of what differentiates the successful (macro and micro) from the types that will always be in survival mode.
stellar tour.......2007-01-16
Investment Biker is a fascinating book for anyone interested in biking, world history, or economics. It's one of those you hate to put down, as you are eager to see what challenges Jim and his friend were to encounter next. It's a wonder they survived, but thank God they did!
An inspirational book about a journey most of us would love to take... including some shrewd finance insights.......2006-12-21
Who hasn't wanted to take a trip ALL around the world. Jim Rogers did, on a motorbike and documented it in this fine book. I definately see it though as a travel / adventure book though rather than something that's much about finance. He share's some insights, some of his wisdom and thinking process (that are not always right) around investment, history, politics and economics. He spent 22 months on the road, criss-crossing the globe on a motorbike with his girlfriend (brave woman!), and what an adventure he had. Remember, a lot of these countries werent all that open to foreigners. Most of you reading this will know Rogers, he made a fortune trading the financial markets with George Soros and retired at the age of 37 and is now a lecturer, author, investor, writer and adventurer. Hats off to him for doing things he loves.
If you're looking though for a guide how to invest in financial markets or even the developing economies you wont find it here. Perhaps you may like to check out some of the work by Mark Mobius. Rogers website has video cams from his most recent trip, taken from all around the world and are highly recommended (and inspirational) viewing.
Like most people, I'd love to do an adventure like this, and, unfortunately, many of the countries he traveled through are now just poor copies of the west. This book though is a page turner and you dont have to have a knowledge (or even interest) in finance and economics to enjoy it.
Highly recommended,
Required reading!.......2006-12-08
This should be required reading for any economics course! (or for global investing ...of course ;) My eyes are opened. Jim has accomplished something that may never be repeated. He completed an amazing land journey through territories of every kind on earth. He experienced the people, the lifestyles, the local markets, the capital markets, the currency markets and the black markets of the world. His experience relates cause and effect of political and economic policies of over fifty countries. He has travelled our global economic history and laid it all down in an clear, concise and exciting text that will have you churning paper as you roar through it.
I learned alot. I want more!
Thank you!
A good read, lots to think about . . . .......2006-11-20
From March of 1990 to August of 1992, Jim Rogers and his friend Tabitha took a marathon motorcycle trip on two BMW motorcycles. By the end, they had logged over 65,000 miles on each bike, and had traveled through Europe, the Middle East, Nepal, China, Siberia, Russia, Europe (again), western & southern Africa, three-quarters of the edge of Australia, South America, Central America, and North America.
The record of this extraordinary trip, told from the perspective of Jim Rogers, is _Investment Biker: Around the World with Jim Rogers_.
Jim Rogers made a fortune on Wall Street in the 1980s when he & George Soros ran the Quantum Fund. He is interested in international investing, and the story is definitely told from the perspective of someone who is interested in investing and making money. This sometimes makes the book slow and Rogers' focus a bit single-minded.
On the positive side, Rogers gives brief historical backgrounds of most of the places he visits, and he is one of those few authors who describes not just what a place is like right now, but what direction it seems to be going. As he goes through various locales, he often stops by local banks and stock markets to see if he can invest, but he also stays are regular places, eats regular food, and talks to regular people. It is clear that his large cash reserves made the trip much easier than it might have been otherwise, but at the same time many of the risks, adverse conditions, and long days were things that no amount of cash could help, and he & Tabitha still persevered.
One of the things I liked a lot about this book were Rogers' observations about the people and countries along the way. His discussion about health (especially women's health) in Siberia was eye-opening and hair-raising, his observations about the historical economics and current vivacity of different Southern & Central American countries are thought provoking, and his comments about the difference in temperament between those in the capitals of the U.S. and Canada ("joiners and backslappers") versus those in the sparsely settled hinterlands ("loners and mavericks") are very true.
There are parts of the book where it is quite slow, especially the section where they are traveling through sub-Saharan Africa. I really wish there had been more pictures.
Rogers writes that above almost all else, his trip taught him that mankind as a whole will find a way to adapt and persevere in almost any situation. His long-term outlook is very optimistic, but his short-term expectations are both pessimistic and a bit short-sighted. While Rogers does understand just how quickly the world can change, he does not seem to understand how long the countervailing force of inertia can keep things the same.
All in all, a very eye-opening & thought-provoking book. DON'T read it if you are looking for a 100% guaranteed guide to either travel or investing, but DO read it if you are looking for an engaging story about a multi-year trip that most of us would never have the time or inclination for, but that is still fun to read about.

Your Next.............2007-07-29
Mr. Trotta gave an excellent glimpse into his life. It was revealing in that he overcame many obstacles seldomly experienced by others. His story I believe gives hope to others striving to live life on their own terms. I want to thank him for his candor and wish him the best of success in the future. I have had the opportunity to met his wife and him in person. They are very unique people and the biography does them justice.

This book was put together really well.......2007-06-05
I picked this book up at the local library and I must get my own copy. Tons of pictures and movie posters and sufficient commentary information, including background information. A lot of research was expended to obtain many interesting inside tidbits and on the film-making process. Best of all, there are many sexy pictures of the actresses of these films. In fact, I believe there are more pictures of the women than the men. That's a plus for me.
The author makes no attempt to trash any of the films. For example, for the film She-Devils on Wheels, the author writes, "among those who love low-budget and exploitation films ...". I am old enough to have seen the films of the 60's-70's-80's, low budget films that are barely made anymore. Thanks to Blockbuster (or Lackluster) that stopped stocking these films to concentrate on just the hits. And high ticket prices hurt as well. But, what you saw on the screen was more real than the special effects laden, blue screen, whimpy men & women, boring stuff we now get geared for the 13 year old. I was never a big fan of biker flicks, but now we have 40 cult films because nothing has come on line in the past 30 years to make these films obsolete. Afterall, what studio is going to put a $5 million actor on a motorcycle?
Back to the book, the 40 films are listed by release date. An alphabetical cross-reference of film titles is missing, my only nitpick.
How Hollywood has glamorized and demonized motorcycles.......2005-05-19
Award-wining writers who ar especially known for their insightful movie commentaries, John Wooley and Michael H. Price present The Big Book Of Biker Flicks, an erudite scrutiny of 40 of the best motorcycle movies of all time. Black-and-white and a handful of color photographs illustrate the discussions of biker movies such as "Angels Die Hard!", "Werewolves on Wheels", "Rebel Rousers". The reflections not only discuss plot and themes, but also the conditions behind the movies' creation, the models of bikes portrayed, the level and useage of violence in such films, and more. A fascinating tour of how Hollywood has glamorized and demonized motorcycles and the people who ride them, The Big Book of Biker Flicks is a welcome addition to personal and academic Cinematic History reference collections and supplemental reading lists.
Book Description
Dreaming of hot pie and coffee at a favorite back road diner? Know what it's like to fix a bike with bungee cords and electrician's tape? Been to every smoky roadside bar between here and Sturgis? A side-cracking companion volume to A Biker's Guide to the Open Road: Ride it Like You Stole It, this brand new collection of biker wisdom kicks it up with a hundred miles worth of new quotes and quips, plenty of slick black wisdom, and intoxicating humor that goes down smooth after a long day on the highway: There should always be more miles on your bike than your car. The five food groups of motorcycling: gas, oil, nicotine, caffeine, and beer. Speed costs money. How fast is your wallet? In motorcycling, the good guys have names like "Pig," "Grizzly," "Horseface," and "Slammer." If you want to be treated like a badass, you have to BE a badass. If you're trying to BE a badass, don't be surprised at how people treat you. The bond between bikers has little to do with motorcycles-its beer. Never stop a fistfight unless it's getting too close to the bikes. No self-respecting biker should be without a copy of A Biker's Guide to the Open Road: Ride it Like You Stole It in their saddlebag. Penny Powers co-wrote Sit Down, Shut Up & Hang On: A Biker's Guide to Life, also published by Gibbs Smith, Publisher, with Chuck Hayes. She rides a 1993 Harley FX Low Rider, teaches nursing at South Dakota State University, and likes to raise peafowl. Powers lives in South Dakota. Chuck Hays has spent the past twenty years as a journalist and writer. He is currently finishing a PhD at the University of Iowa, where he also teaches newspaper and magazine writing. He divides his time between Iowa and South Dakota. His 1989 Harley-Davidson Sportster has been ridden into the ground and rebuilt several times, but he still refuses to buy a larger bike.

Biker "True-isms".......2007-02-27
A short, but informative "must read" for all bikers! Perfect after a long day ride when you are sitting on the back patio having a cold one and reminiscing about your good times on your ride.
FUNNY! .......2007-01-13
I found this a short but great read. I think it takes a true biker to understand most of the mantra. Some of the things in here I laughed so hard at people thought I had lost my mind. (Don't read at work). I am more than happy with the book and I have read it a few times now. I hope you enjoy it too. I am searching for more books from the authors.

Product Description
This is the book Texas bikers have been waiting for. Theres plenty about what to see and do along the way, but the focus is on the rides: Where to go, what signs to look for, how far the next turnoff is, when to be especially alert for whats around a sharp bend, when you can expect to relax a bit and just cruise. These 25 great rides have been scouted by Dorothy Waldman, who became a Biker Babe in her fifties when she finally mustered the courage to get on a motorcycle. She quickly discovered the thrills of riding the back roads of the Lone Star state, from the North Texas woodlands and lakesbliss on a biketo the pastoral Gulf Coast to the tricky ride in Big Bend country along the Rio GrandeThe most desolate, the most adventurous, and the most memorable sixty-seven miles of pure riding ecstasy or pure terror, a ride to be attempted, she warns, only after youve fully mastered your bike. Such pithy appraisals pepper the directions and route descriptions in The Bikers Guide to Texas. All rides are carefully mapped. They come with hints on what to see, where to eat and where to stay.
Customer Reviews:
Try it, you'll like it!.......2007-06-16
25 rides covering the majority of the state, ride distances and styles. I throughly enjoyed the way various rides are themed. Ms. Waldman gives many useful tips and valuable information, for example "Be sure your tank is full and you have replenished your provisions before you set out from Alpine. There are no towns for the next eighty miles. There is no place to stop for food or fuel. All you have is what you take with you." Ms. Waldman did her homework, she lists many interesting resturants, muesumes and local attractions for the many varied areas she travels. The wealth of diversity alone makes this book stand tall among Texas travel guides. I will be utilizing this guide when planning trips, to look for destinations, attractions, eateries and other entertaining distractions. I recomend it . . . Try it, you'll like it!
Great new guide book!.......2005-09-10
I recently received this book as a gift, and it makes me want to get out on the road! The book has clear, carefully delineated maps to go with each of the rides across Texas. The directions are very clear but not dry because the author spices them up with relevant tips and cultural/historical information for each area. My favorite part is the "Highlights Along the Way" section at the end of each ride. Did you know you can visit vineyards near Stonewall, TX and try French Bordeaux wine? (ride #15 in the Hill Country) Or visit a museum dedicated to Texas' Danish culture and Viking heritage in Danevang? (ride #20)
Though the book is marketed to bikers, many of the rides would be appropriate for cyclists looking for longer rides. Some of the rides are in the 60-70 mile range.
Great book! It would make a good gift for the biker who has everything. It's hard to believe it took so long to get such a good guide book for bikers in Texas on the market.
Rev it up with this great book!.......2005-09-01
You need not be a motorcycle rider or a Texan to benefit from this latest contribution to the travel genre.
In her eloquent lyrical style, Ms Waldman takes us across the varied terrain of Texas and magically transports the reader to such diverse locales as Palo Duro Canyon in the Panhandle and the Big Thicket forests of deep East Texas.
I have ridden many of the routes described in the book and find the information accurate and helpful.
This book is a wonderful resource for the serious rider and also a vacation for the mind for the vicarious reader.
Bikers Guide to Texas.......2005-08-31
I am a native Texan and have been a bike rider since 1962. This book does more for the novice, general or expert rider than any book on riding in Texas that is currently on the market.
I was luckly enough to meet the author and the three riders on the cover are from the midlifecycles.com riding group.
Enjoy and buy an extra copy for Christmas and send it to any rider you know. They will really appreciate it.

Great tour guide........2005-08-30
Just got this book and have read about half of it. Have riden some of the roads but not in the layout this book offers. I will be riding as many of the routes shown in the book. Has some really great information on what is ahead and what to look out for.
