Got Most of the Standards..........2007-03-25
...and a whole lot (I mean a WHOLE LOT) of holiday tunes no one has ever heard of. This book could be half it's current size and it wouldn't suffer any. However, the standards are all in there (though "Blue Christmas" is mysteriously missing from this edition) and it's great for hammering out some Christmas cheer when friends and family are over.
Good for Christmas -- serious or fun.......2007-01-19
This has almost all the songs and carols you could want, both sacred and secular. Plus some extras I've never heard of (not many, luckily). Great for a party and also for a quiet evening with friends or family. It's missing 2 biggies (in my opinion): White Christmas and Winter Wonderland. Copyright problems, maybe? Otherwise, it has a LOT. From O Holy Night and Birthday of a King to silly ones like The Chipmunk Song ("I still want a hu-la ho-o-op...")and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. I really enjoyed it last Christmas. It was great for a sing-a-long, too.
One tip: Play through some songs yourself before you play for a group. Occasinally, you might prefer different harmony (i.e. different chords) than those given. It doesn't happen often. When it does, just cross out the printed chord and write in the one you like better. I think we're all used to certain harmonies when it comes to something like Christmas songs and carols.
I had fun with this book at Christmas, as you can tell. I think it'll be a regular for me in future Christmas seasons.

Impressive selection - in fact, probably half were ones I don't know, which either means they're obscure or I'm not as knowledgeable as I thought.
Nice clear typography, and comb binding is a must for anything you want to stick on the piano.
One complaint: Most of the songs were in keys that were too high for women. When we had a singalong night I and my band had to transpose on the fly so the women wouldn't be screeching.
easy play for family singing.......2007-01-09
If you are familiar with the Fake Books, you know how easily the songs can be played...single notes or chords with the right hand for melody, and a variety of options with the left hand to richen the sound. The songs have the words for all verses included. There is a wide selection, and a couple of songs even offer more than one arrangement.
If you used to play but hated the repittion required to learn a song, than this method is for you. Piano for Quitters is a wonderful accompaniment for these types of books (Fake Books).

Christmas Fingerstyle Guitar.......2006-11-10
This book contains beautiful arrangments for the intermediate to advanced guitar player. Players who are not yet at an intermediate level of playing may find the arrangments frustrating. Several of the songs are in an alternate tuning. Even the simplist arrangement involves quite a bit of skill. The reward for the guitarist's work is a beautiful arrangment with depth. This book comes with a CD which allows the guitarist to hear how the arrangements should sound.

Wow........ Yes, now this is just great. You know it's always worth buying a book if 1 song is great... There are a couple of Great Arrangements from Mark Hanson in this book. You better be ready though if you start the 4 more challenging songs from this book because they are very difficult for most people. Mark Hanson has some difficult ways of playing some of the chords. I even had to rearranged some minor things to make them more playable for me. I am a Acoustic Fingerstyle Player for a couple of years now, performing almost every week but these songs need a Lot of Attention and Devotion in order to be able to play them before an audience. Take a lot of time to let the songs "Sink In" to your body.
Beautiful arrangements, but not for beginners!.......2006-06-20
This is my second Mark Hanson fingerstyle book (the other is his Beyond Basics book.) The Christmas songs in this one are very well chosen, including absolutely stunning arrangements of Go Tell It On The Mountain and In Dulci Jubilo. It's worth the price for the CD that accompanies the book, just to hear Hanson playing!
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's misleading to call four of these songs "easy." These so-called "easy" songs are definitely not what most people would think of as easy! Others have made similar comments about the book being for intermediate to advanced players, and I completely agree. But if you have a few years playing experience and are at least an "advanced beginner" with respect to fingerstyle playing, then I highly recommend this collection of great songs.
An Amazing Arranger and Teacher.......2005-12-26
I've bought so many books for solo guitar and Mark Hanson's outshine anyone else. His arrangements are amazing, and very playable, even for a self-taught guitarist like me who only reads tablature. I get many compliments on my playing now, and it's all thanks to Mark Hanson's beautiful arrangements both in this book and in his "Great American Tablature Song Book", which has such a great variety of music (and is available with others on his website, if not through Amazon). Highly recommended.
Mark Hanson Is The Best!.......2003-01-07
Between the 1-note "Easy-TAB" books and full-blown "As Recorded" tabs, there's been a void of playable tabs for the intermediate player. Mark Hanson has filled that gap, and is the top guy out there today producing interesting arrangements for the intermediate guitar player.
If you're an absolute beginner, you can safely pass this one up, but if you have a year or two of experience under your belt, this is a great set of solos for the Christmas season. Be sure to pick it up a few months early, though, because these are NOT easy. You'll have to work at them to get them sounding nice.
Mark hasn't forgotten those of you out there with more skills, either. There are a total of 12 arrangements here - 4 easy, 4 intermediate, and 4 advanced. By the time you get to the last couple of tunes, you have some serious show-off stuff going on - way over my head, but something the advanced player can dig into, and the intermediate player can aspire to.
Highly recommended for both intermediate and advanced players.
Book Description
This book features Christmas music of primarily classical origins, transcribed for one, two, or three electric guitars. These transcriptions were notated in standard notation and tablature and are meant to be performed with a pick, or using hybrid picking. Even though a few of the pieces may be played on a standard guitar, the others require an electric guitar or a guitar with a cutaway.
The recording features performances of all of the music in the book with anywhere from one to as many as eight guitars sounding simultaneously. The last four tracks of the CD feature certain previous tracks with the first guitar omitted. By using these tracks as accompaniment one can practice or perform with the CD. Selections include Carol of the Bells, Four miniatures from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, Johann Pachelbel's Kanon, and more.

This book is good to learn some basic electric guitar Christmas music. I used it for my intermediate guitar students at Christmas. The songs aren't extremely difficult, but they do have duets and trios that you can put ensembles together for a Christmas program.

Moving and comforting..........2007-08-03
My Early Childhood Development class really enjoyed listening to "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." they were sitting on their knees close to the CD player. On their own, they "moved" to the lively new arrangement of a familiar song.
Our friend, Judy, often takes care of her grandson, who is a special four-year-old. She says his favorite song on the CD is, "Old Joe Clark." The song has conforted him, encouraged, and made him happy.

Excellent transaction. The book was in excellent condition. I am a beginner trumpet player and the book was easy enough for me to play many of the christmas songs, over the holidays. If you are an accomplished trumpet player, this book is probably too easy for you. In addition, the book has a wonderful assortment of Christmas songs. Probably has the largest selection of Christmas songs for the price.

I found many of the songs I was looking for in this book. I did not find some of the more recent/rock songs that I would have liked to play. The difficulty of the songs was just right for me....most were of the beginner and intermediate level of difficulty.

This book is relatively easy to play. It has a lot of songs. I especially like the religious songs as that is what I use the most. It is in large enough print that makes it easy to read. It is a book that will last you for many years if you take care of it. It is sold at a bargain price.

This book actually lives up to it's name. I wish more fake books were this good. Had some hard to find Christmas songs within catalog. Would recommend it to any one wanting to play Christmas Music.
Not the best choice, unless..........2006-01-17
Lots of great Christmas songs here, but unless you really want a melody-line tab, you should get the "Ultimate Guitar Christmas Fake Book" instead. And, if all you need is chord names (not chord boxes), just get the Ultimate Christmas Fake Book. You get 50-70 more songs with the other fake books, and there's nothing here that isn't in the other books.
