Book Description

For Hart Evans, being the most popular kid in sixth grade has its advantages. Kids look up to him, and all the teachers let him get away with anything -- all the teachers except the chorus director, Mr. Meinert. When Hart's errant rubber band hits Mr. Meinert on the neck during chorus practice, it's the last straw for the chorus director, who's just learned he's about to lose his job due to budget cuts. So he tells the class they can produce the big holiday concert on their own. Or not. It's all up to them. And who gets elected to run the show? The popular Mr. Hart Evans.

Hart soon discovers there's a big difference between popularity and leadership, and to his surprise, discovers something else as well -- it's really important to him that this be the best holiday concert ever, and even more important, that it not be the last.

This book was great. Hart Evens shot a ruber band smack on his chorus teacher. His teacher gets angry and decides to relax instead. So Hart Evens has to be the chorus director of the holiday concert. Hart's friends get mad at him because he can not fit everyone's ideas into the concert. They took a vote to decide what ideas to fit into the concert and what ideas to leave out. In the end, the children involved with the concert learned how to cooperate with each other.

The title of the book I read was The Last Holiday Concert the author is Andrew Clements. This book takes place in a music room and at his school.

Evens, Hart, Evens

Evens, Hart, Evens have you heard that name before, well Hart Evens is the most popular kid in his grade, and in Harts music class he has done something he is going to regret. He also has been voted to be the new music teacher. So Hart is going to have to do a concert all by him self. But he has some friends on his side.

Liked or disliked

I liked this book because it surprised me every time I flipped the page. For example when Hart had one problem there went another problem. So Hart had to get everybody in shape and get started because he only had 2 ½ weeks left. I really liked the author words, hears some examples. Hart is kind of a bully but not much. He is very popular. He is in the 6th grade and a risk taker by flicking a rubber band at his teacher.

Hart is in the 6th grade. He is very cool, he has lots of friends. He got to be music teacher because, he flung a rudder band at his teacher and the teacher got fed up with him and the class. So he quit and let them figure it out for them selfs. So the class voted hart teacher for now.

A great Christmas story .......2007-01-04

I recomend The Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements because it is a very interesting book. It is not just a book for music lovers. It is also for people that like the thought of kids taking charge and the teacher who's name is Mr.Meinert lay back and relax. You will see what happens when a popular kid get in trouble and the teacher goes crazy. Hart Evens the popular guy at school starts running the choir and it is disastrous. But can a little Winterhope and peace guide him to brilliance? The genre is Fiction and I think that you will really like it. I enjoied it very much I thought that it was a fantastic book.

This book was pretty good,I liked it.Hart Evans was the coolest kid in sixth grade. He had a challenge that was to run the holiday concert,because he thought he would be better then the teacher would be.It tells that hart found out that he couldn't do it all be himself. But, bye the end of the book he pulled it all together and had the best holiday concert ever.Hart was happy untell he found out that his teacher Mr.Meinert was layed off,because the school didn't have enough money to pay for a music or a art teacher.

This book series is clever, and this installment upholds it's duty and more. Any true fan would love this book. This story is like the K and P books because it has two clear suspects and sticks to them. But get ready for a twist you won't soon forget and an ending you won't believe. I give it five shining stars.

GREAT LESSON IN THIS BOOK!.......2004-06-27

In the 8th book in the series about Madison Finn, "Picture-Perfect", Madison, Aimee, and Fiona all get the chance to go to a Nikki concert. Nikki is their favorite singer, just like today's Britney Spears, JLO, Hilary Duff, and anybody else you can think of all put together into one person. They are all so excited, but Aimee starts acting strange. She doesn't eat and she is not herself anymore. Then something terrible happens to her! But, all in all, everything turns out well. They all get to go to the Nikki concert and their tickets are special so they can go backstage. But when the meet Nikki, all 3 girls realize she isn't "Picture-Perfect" on the inside or out. This teaches a really great lesson and all young girls should read it so they can realize that being anorexic is NOT a good thing. So get "Picture-Perfect" today!

Who could even THINK of not eating, let alone NOT eat. And it's NOT Madison. It's Aimee! I mean if she wants to be like Nikki she should take singing lessons, not starve herself! If I was Madison or Fiona I would be sooooooooooo freaked out right now. Can you even imagine it? I mean, when Madison so Nikki for the first time in person she didn't like her. So what was the point of getting Aimee so sick? It's just part of the ironic circle of life!

Picture Perfect is at the top of the charts for my madison finn collection. It is all about when Fiona wins 3 tickets to the Nikki concert.They also win backstage passes!! The problem is, is that aimee starts acting very strange. They also learn a lesson that no one is perfect. Will the concert be great.. or a total disaster?

I am a huge fan of the From the Files of Madison Finn books and this is the latest book in the series that I have read so far. It is also my favourite book in the series because it deals with real life issues that teenage girls face today. Madison, Aimee, and Fiona all love the new pop sensation Nikki and when they find out that she is coming to Far Hills for a concert, they can't wait to get tickets. This will be their first concert and there are many problems facing them, like getting a responsible chaperone to take them to the concert. Also, Madison and Fiona start to realize that something is wrong with Aimee. She is not eating at all and she keeps saying that she's fat. I think this is a great book and if you are a fan of the series, you should definitely check it out!

I loved this book! It was an excelent read, while teaching you something. Teaches you about anorexia, some girls may think that, well i'll loose weight, whats the big deal? I'll be happpier I can be prettier and I'll feel better, but they are wrong. I think that it shows you that in this book. Aswell as them all thinking that Nikki was "picture perfect" but when they saw her they saw the same things that where going on in there bodies. There was never a dull moment in this book. Its a great read...!

Isaac Millman tells Moses's story in pictures and written English, and in American Sign Language (ASL), introducing hearing children to the signs for some of the key words and ideas. At the end of the book are two full conversations in sign language and a page showing the hand alphabet.

Can't resist telling about Moses on another Field trip . . ........2006-10-03

Actually, "MOSES GOES TO A CONCERT" is the FIRST book in what grew into a series. Isaac Millman has written these most appealing books to provide deaf children with stories they can relate to ONE HUNDRED PER CENT. The books also introduce the 'hearing world' to signing in a simplified cartoonish fashion - one they can learn quickly.

In this story the author takes the children on a field trip to a Young People's Concert. You may think like some reviewers that this makes no sense . . . BUT . . . Moses and the other students "hear" the musical sounds through vibrations. A friend of the teacher is the percussionist & it doesn't take long before Moses is convinced he wants to become a percussionist when he grows up.

Reviewer mcHAIKU is also convinced - - that these are wonderfully creative books that kids will wholeheartedly respond to - - and adults will also claim totally brilliant. PASS THE WORD ALONG !

hearing view of the deaf/hard-of-hearing world.......2002-12-22

Since this book was not written by a hard of hearing person, it does not give an appropriate view of the hard of hearing world. This book could not apply to deaf people becasue deaf people cannot hear music -- only feel the vibrations. The book gives a clear view of how hearing people view the heard of hearing world. It is a beginning, but it is not the best book.

Breaking the "Sound Barrier".......2000-10-25

As a music teacher I was really excited to find this book. It combinds two seperate worlds into one. Sometimes deaf or hard-of-hearing students never get to experience the world of music, but this book is GREAT at introducing them to music and a famous, deaf, musician. I really like this book and would recomended it to any teacher to help implement music in their deaf ed. class.

My children loved this book. They have just started to read independently, and I enjoy watching them read and watching their hands move as they easily follow the drawings for signed words. They are fascinated with it, and I think the motion as well as reading makes it even more enjoyable. The story is entertaining, and the use of a balloon or stocking feet to feel sound vibrations is very clever.

PECORINO'S MOM TAKES HIM TO HIS FIRST CONCERT. BEING LIKE MOST KIDS, HE STARES AT THE MAN WITH THE LONG MUSTACHE AND DOESN'T STAY IN HIS SEAT, LIKE HIS MOM TOLD HIM. WHILE CHECKING OUT THE INSTRUMENTS ON STAGE, HE GETS STUCK...BUT ALL ENDS WELL. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR.

This is the real thing!
At last, a book both you and your kids will love.
The first time i read Pecorino to my daughter we both laughed outloud and upon finishing it she said "READ IT AGAIN!"
The writing is fresh and original and the drawings are just beautiful and wacky.
Run don't walk. Get this book on your shelf!

We love this book. My kids have me read it to them over and over again. We act out parts of the book, all of the instruments and have lots of laughs over Pecorino's silliness. I highly recommend this book.

Commissioned by Ferdinand Peck and produced by architects Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler--soon to be leaders of the Chicago School--in 1889, the Auditorium Building was a wondrous complex, housing a hotel, offices, stores, and a theater. Adler's engineering skills overcame the problem of a foundation that had to support an unevenly distributed weight; Sullivan designed the stunning theater, which was spanned by four elliptical arches studded with 3,500 incandescent electric lights and decorated with gold leaf. Adler created a hydraulic stage--with twenty-six lifts--and one of the first air-conditioning systems in a public building.

Among the many design features in the interior of the Auditorium were murals, onyx, marble, open loggias, stained glass, filigreed vents, wainscoting, and bronze-plated posts. Scholars considered the Auditorium Building the most important single structure in Chicago.
