Book Description
This book explores issues of character facing Christian artists who want to use their gifts more effectively in church ministry.
Customer Reviews:
This book is a must have for your artistic team!.......2007-08-31
This book is great! This is required reading for anyone who wants to join our ministry team, be they actor, musician, vocalist, stage crew or technical staff. It is broken up into easy to use chapters, with group discussion questions at the end of each chapter, as well as "action points". These discussion questions have been proven to be an invaluable tool in evaluating attitudes, expectations and spiritual readiness for ministry. They also give the leader an opportunity to expand on their vision for ministry. This study primarily focuses on servanthood, having a right view and appreciation of your God given gifts and talents, and being a team player and not always having to be "in the spotlight". It sets the bar for serving in an artistic capacity in the church while being sensitive to and encouraging those who serve. I highly recommend it for your artistic ministry team.
Helping Artists to Understand Each Other.......2007-05-17
"The Heart of the Artist" brings to life real situations that happen in church ministry no matter what church or denomination. Leaders that are in charge of these different ministries are not always equiped on how to handle the struggles, situations, and circumstances that happen to them as they lead these ministries. "The Heart of the Artist" reveals Scripture and examples of how to deal with these situations, which when bathed in prayer and studied, will equip any struggling leader on how to handle these situations in the future. Rory Noland has done an excellent job in bringing his experiences and letting God use him to share with all artist on how to better themselves in understanding through Scripture and his advice, what they can do to lead better and how anyone can better themselves with their people skills. It's a book every artist should read to better equip themselves in leading and understanding how to work together as artist to build God's Kingdom.

Okay.......2007-01-19
The arrival time was okay, but the condition of the book did not match the description. There appeared to be some kind of dried liquid stains throughout the book?? Coffee or tea perhaps??
Great tool for Worship Leadership!.......2006-11-10
This has been one of the most convicting and inspiring books. It is a must read for anyone in my leadership team. It keeps your heart as the main issue, and the strive to serve God with the gifts He has given. Rory Noland shows an authentic heart for wanting more of what God has for him. Best ministry book in my library!

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
Since its publication over twenty years ago, Up with Worship has proven itself to be an enduring classic. The first book of its type, it was truly ahead of its time. With demand for this book continual and broad, author Anne Ortlund is now revising and expanding on the original theme.
Ortlund contends that we fail to experience the Presence when we don't allow ourselves to worship in the now and instead become lost in past successes. Up with Worship encourages the pursuit of God's presence to the point we become so thirsty we become absolutely cottonmouthed.
Up with Worship is also a very practical book that gives how to instructions for such worship elements as the prelude, ambience, using praise songs and hymns as well as special music, prayer, announcements, the sacraments, and preaching. Also such behind the scenes topics as bulletins, greeters and ushers, preparation, and a worship service flow are covered.

Worship in Truth and Spirit.......2003-07-26
We love this book! Anne Ortlund does a terrific job showing how to turn the worship service from a self-centered public display into a God-centered time of communion, which will then create an atmosphere for the presentation of a sermon. A really heart-opening book! (We've bought several copies. Great gift for the worship director.)

Mobilize your people to pray!.......2006-07-24
Cheryl Sacks is the co-founder of the Church Prayer Leaders Network. In her book Cheryl has provided us with a template to centralize and expand prayer ministries in the church. A church of any size, any denomination, with any level of resources could benefit from implementing Cheryl's suggestions.
I became our church's prayer coordinator just a few months ago. Using The Prayer Saturated Church as a map, we have already strengthened our vibrant ministry, encouraged our pastors, improved communication, engaged more members in prayer and have begun to teach everyone how to pray more effectively.
The CD is very helpful for organizing the ministry and saves time by providing useful handouts. What a blessing!!
Review: The Prayer Saturated Church by Cheryl Sacks.......2006-02-28
This is, without question, the best book I've ever read on how to evolve a church prayer ministry into a true "House of Prayer." The book is easy to read, with a helpful CD included, and every page and chapter is pertinent in some way, so that you can pick and choose whatever is the best mix for your church prayer initiatives as time and resources become available.

The Prayer Saturated Church.......2006-02-25
I praise GOD for giving Cheryl Sacks the knowledge to do a book like this. Prayer is so important in our daily lifes and in our church. We have just started the book and are enjoying what GOD is teaching us through the book.
Spiritually Insightful and Practical.......2005-01-08
The Prayer Saturated Church is Divinely outfitted with inspiring and faith building insights regarding many aspects of prayer for today both individually and for the church. The clarity and simplicity by which the author, Cheryl Sacks, thoroughly covers such a broad spectrum of prayer with depth and practicality evidences the fruit of pray in her life and that of the Church experiences of today.
Effective prayer is our mandate in these pivotal days. The Prayer Saturated Church accompanied by a CD inventory of helpful prayer tools and guides is an answer to pray for the equipping of the Church. This book and associated materials is an essential arsenal for the beginning and committed prayer warrior in the pursuit of personal development or corporate development as an instructional resource for praying groups, Church Sunday schools, prayer networks and Christian academic institutions.

Customer Reviews:
Agree with premise, hate the writing.......2007-09-28
Many people are praising this book for its challenging message. I don't disagree with the message.
I was disappointed in this book because it the poor quality of writing inhibits clarity and good argument. Also, because the author believes every gathering must fit its unique context (I agree!), he tries to avoid making specific recommendations. The result is just jumbled ideas and vague quasi-suggestions. If you are looking for a book that will teach you how to start an emerging worship gathering, this is not going to be very helpful.
The best part of the book is where Kimball profiles several different emerging worship gatherings (at the back), and it would have been a better book to start with these, then draw observations about things they have in common. (And it would have been better if such observations were written by a better writer.)
More specifically about the writing, Kimball's problems start with a poor vocabulary. A good vocabulary results in an economy of words and a precision in meaning; a poor one yields vague, shallow wordiness.
For example, he writes on page 172: "Historically, church ministry functions in a certain way and there was a specific approach to looking at the church leadership structure. But Graceland [an alternative/emerging worship gathering] started going against the norms of consistency and church uniformity!" Lots of words, little clarity: it's clumsy and vague.
I found Kimball's avoidance of specific suggestions or guidance for creating emerging worship gatherings annoying. Either he is unable to find common threads in emerging worship gatherings, or he is deliberately obfuscating. I wish he would show a little more faith in his readers, and tell us how each gathering he profiles was envisioned and created. Most of us are bright enough to realize that our situation is unique, and we must be careful in applying the lessons from other gatherings. But more specifics would have made this a much more helpful resource.
Four and Half Stars--Must read for those in ministry!.......2007-09-24
I am an evangelical Christian finishing up my Bachelor's in Music Ministry from an A/G University. The issues presented in this book are issues that I have been wrestling with and for which I have been unable to find very good answers.
I have not read Kimball's more famous book--"The Emerging Church" or some title along those lines--but I read this book quite intensely.
I was quite the skeptic of this book; the term "Emergent" to me has been misunderstood and made to mean a lot of things. In my mind before I read the book, the word "Emergent" meant a segment of Christianity with Epistemological issues (Truth issues) and entirely focused on experience in regard to every matter of faith and doctrine. Although I believe a lot of the "emergent Church" could fall into this boat, Dan Kimball shouldn't necessarily be thrown in with them.
This book became less about "Emergent" thought, or theology, but more about "Emergent" methodology. You see, the post-modern generation has epistemological issues that need to be met with the appropriate ministry methodologies. Some of the Emergent leaders get caught up with their own truth problems when the try to reach post-moderns, and some others like Dan Kimball simply use methodologies with truth-challenged people in mind.
I highly recommend this book to pastors and worship pastors, although it may not be as practical as you might desire. In case you haven't noticed, if you are looking for a "7 steps to do this..." or "21 reasons that..." kind of book you are in the wrong place. Those kinds of books are thoroughly influenced by modernism anyway (like John Maxwell type books). Emergent literature is not a "3 steps to" whatever kind of movement--to them it is all about "The Journey" for the individual and the truths discovered along the way. This book does provide examples of what some churches are doing, but encourages you to find out what will appeal to your community where you live.
I am from the Midwest and live in TX--the culture I am surrounded with is not as advanced in a post-modernistic way as the west-coast culture out in California from where we receive Kimball's insights. Ultimately, Kimball is saying that we have to change to reach people, change according to the culture you are in by finding what works for that culture, and make sure Christ is always at the center of everything we do. That is something that thoroughly impressed my throughout the entire book--it encourages being Christocentric at all times in every ministry endeavor.
Once again--methodology is not theology. Don't confuse ways to reach people solely through the "sacred spaces" and house churches discussed in this book; the Word of God is the only thing that can truly change people.
Awesome Questions...dangerous answers.......2007-09-17
The subtitle reads, "Creating Worship Gatherings for New Generations", which is a worth goal. And I think Kimball has explored and outlined how to create such a service which would be interesting and accessible to the "New Generation." But I really don't feel like he's adequately answered the real question of "Should we?"
He does tell us why he thinks we should - but all those reasons are based more on the fact that more and more of the post-modern generation are not attending church or dropping out of it. I think the real question is not what can we provide that they will be interested in or that will be relevant to them, the real issue is what do they need - not what they want. Children many times know that they are hungry, but more often than not they will desire foods that provide no sustenance.
This is a sequel or follow-up to Kimball's "Emerging Church", and I do think it is a must read for every modern pastor and worship pastor because it is good to wrestle with the issues being raised. And Kimball asks some great questions (for the most part), he just has some very dangerous answers. Church leaders need to explore these issues and understand biblically what is right and wrong with what Kimball is presenting here.
So yeah, I highly recommend this book - though it will be outdated within the next ten years, I believe. Just take it with a grain of salt and know that, though he doesn't have all the answers, he is recognizing many issues within the modern church.
Better than coffee.......2007-07-27
If you like to have your cup of coffee to help get your eyes open in the morning, reading Kimball's book on Emerging Worship will be a stimulating literary cup of coffee! This book rocked my boat. It made me uncomfortable. It stimulated, even agitated my thinking at times. And it was a welcome and needed jolt. If you are burdened about the missing generations in the church and are trying to figure out how to reach them, you will gain a lot of insight from this book. It will switch the lights on in your head and open up new doors of possibility.
Challenging and insightful.......2006-08-13
Where are all the 18-to-35-year-olds? Thy're not in the mainline churches. They're also not in the conservative evangelical churches! Kimball himself comes from that "camp," and I have significant issues with Kimball's theology (particularly his understanding of salvation). However, Kimball points to a disturbing trend.
"I've had numerous conversations with younger people who told me they left their church to be a disciple of Jesus in a way that makes sense to them," he writes on page xii. "They aren't abandoning their faith. Many choose to form small faith communities and meet in homes among friends. They are waiting for the larger, more organized church to change. This is no cop-out, either. Virtually every young adult I have talked to sincerely tried to bring change to their church and brought suggestions to their church leadership before leaving their church. Most volunteered to start something new. But the suggestions fell on deaf ears with a predetermined view of what emerging generations should be like in relation to 'church.' The closed minds in their church leadership eventually made them choose to leave." I'm struck by those sentences because I myself know people who have done precisely what Kimball describes; I know young adults who have tried to change the institutional church, faced a wall virtually made of bricks, gotten discouraged, and left the institution to find a new (and to them, more authentic) way to be faithful to Jesus Christ.
Kimball offers several models for how to reach this generation. These models are based upon a basic assumption: we need to get away from the idea that the fundamental building block in the church is the weekend worship service, and we need to embrace the idea that the fundamental building block in the church is the church's mission of making disciples.
Wait -- what? You mean the Sunday morning worship service isn't the bedrock of the faith community? Yes, that's precisely what Kimball is saying. Chapter 3 -- "Why This Is a Dangerous Book to Read" -- is, for me, the highlight of the book. Kimball wisely points out that if you are not able to shake yourself loose of some basic assumptions about what it means to "be church," you may find this book deeply troubling. It's no small thing to encourage people to accept the idea that everything they've always thought about "church" might not quite be what Jesus had in mind!

The Magnum Opus of a great Church Musician!.......2003-01-02
Donald Paul Hustad has been the stabilizing force upon many good and gifted Church Musicians. When I first met him with my wife Barbara we were attending the National Conference of Southern Baptist Church Musicians held in Louisville, Ky. Barbara and I slipped up behind him. As she spoke her name quietly in his ear, he jumped and gave her a bear hug. Since he had been her first piano teacher while serving her Mother's First Methodist Church of Oskaloosa, Iowa, this was the first time we had the chance to renew his friendship.
From 1968 until today we have corresponded, exchanged visits, been gifted with Don's books, compositions, organ recitals and choral conferences for all four churches where we served. When I had time to re-read Jubilate II the title of the Foreword caught my eyes. "The Pilgrimage of a Schizophrenic Musician" became for me the most unexpected and unlikely title he could have chosen!
I doubt that many of his close friends would have chosen that title very fitting for the Donald Hustad who is familiar as the stabilizing and motivating personality who keeps us on an even keel for nearly forty years of turmoil in Church Music!
This collectors'gem of an inclusive account of notable changes in Church Worship thru Music has the trademark of the composite Church Musician. Don begins the book before the Foreword with his dedication to Donna, Sondra and Marcia. Not one of us as a Father would risk that personal touch to daughters without being proud of our accomplishments!
Leading with his commitment to Moody Bible Institute and the Billy Graham Team, he moves on to a lengthy tenure as teacher, composer and editor with Southern Seminary and Hope Publishing Co. His thirty-three pages of Notes and Bibliography reflect the comments and quotes of C. S. Lewis, Suzanne Langer, Richard Niebuhr, Robert Shaw, William Temple, Evelyn Underhill. The printed bookcover carries accolades from eleven outstanding persons from Erik Routley, English to Austin Lovelace, Carlton Young and William J. Reynolds, each representing varied church groups and interests.
May this outstanding and thoroughly created work receive its deserving acclamation!

Bestselling author Neale Donald Walsch (Conversations with God) moves beyond showing readers how to develop a friendship with God and instead offers a model for communion. Rather than using the dialog format, where Walsch shares personal conversations he has with God, he chose to write through the narrative voice of God--as if God were speaking directly to the reader. "I tell you this: You need nothing to survive," says God. "Your survival is guaranteed. I gave you everlasting life, and I never took it away from you." This format can feel a bit jarring, as if this was an attempt at channeling rather than Walsch's usual humble style of dialogue. Using a structure of top-10 illusions, Walsch has God speaking to illusions such as need, judgment, and superiority. At times God sounds scolding: "For I tell you this: Your idea of superiority could be the last mistake you ever make." Yet, the bottom-line message is that of unconditional love and the exhilarating promise of communion--a gift that is lavishly offered throughout the final chapters. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
Neale Donald Walsch has changed the way the world thinks about God. His books have been translated into twenty-five languages, and his Conversations with God series, book 1, book 2, and book 3, have all been New York Times bestsellers-book 1 for over two years.
In the Conversations books, Walsch shared with his readers the beginning of a sacred relationship, as he began an exchange with God on everything from love and faith, to life and death, and good and evil. And then, as Walsch recounted in Friendship with God, something else extraordinary began to happen. His relationship with God began to strengthen and deepen, just as our own relationships do, into a friendship.
Now in Communion with God, his most richly intimate book yet, Walsh discovers how to elevate that friendship to a state of communion. In this blueprint for seekers, he reveals The Ten Illusions of Man-the misconceptions we hold about ourselves and our world and our God. He describes with striking clarity how we might heal the great divide that has arisen from these illusions. And as he explores the true meaning of bringing God into our everyday lives, of having the courage of our convictions, Walsch shows us that we can only break free from our illusions when we act always from a place of deep fellowship with all that is holy-a place of communion with God.

Holy Communion.......2007-02-19
In this very different book by Neale Donald Walsch, Walsch asserts that there are ten illusions that humanity continually falls prey to. The ten illusions are:
1. Need
2. Failure
3. Disunity
4. Insufficiency
5. Requirement
6. Judgment
7. Condemnation
8. Conditionality
9. Superiority
10.Ignorance
He then "builds a case" why that ten things tend to confine and restrict humanity and how none of these things are true because we are forever in the heart of God and are created in the Image and Likeness of Original Innocence.
There are a lot of people who think that Neale Donald Walsch is telling people simply what they want to hear; that the truth of the matter is we are horrible, horrible sinners and do not deserve God's Love. I don't know about you, but I spent over twenty three years of my life feeling like I wasn't "good enough" to live this life. I've spent the last 19 years of my life on a conscious spiritual path and yes, Neale Donald Walsch says some very inspirational things in this book, some were so incredibly beautiful that I actually wept and yet I knew that even though they were things I wanted to hear...things I needed to hear...I didn't fully accept those things the first time out.
Our minds have literally been warped by this world we live in. It's a very difficult thing to break through the mass hypnosis that we have all been subject to and come to a God of pure, unadulterated Love. I had a beautiful mentor in the early years of my spiritual path who used to say to me, "God is Love and God is Love all the time..."
Intellectually we know that God can be Love, but we don't get the "all the time part." Why? Because we have moments where we can be a place/a space of Love. And when we do have those moments, we are being who we really are, but we quickly lapse into one of the ten illusions.
Even though we don't like to admit it, it's not our darkness that we're afraid of, but it's our Light. We love to cling to our stories, we love to argue for our limitations. Hey, I'm not pointing any fingers, I've been a "Light Coach" for awhile now, and I still find myself feeling more comfortable with these fears I created out of ignorance, than with the Love that I was created out of and it's in those moments, I have to consciously and deliberately invoke the Power of Love and know that even in that moment of fear and doubt, I am still One with God.
We're One with God now. We are immersed in the Love, the Light, and the Life of God now. The only thing is, is we're asleep to to this Truth. Let this incredible book be your alarm clock. Open yourself up to an even deeper understanding that you are worthy enough to participate in Holy Communion; that God is your True Source and that Grace is always available to you simply because you are Divine right now.
Of course, those steeped in Dogma and superstition want you to think these are the words of the "devil" but let your heart decide. Ask yourself right now what brings you a peaceful feeling; is it a God who judges and punishes or a God of unconditional Love and acceptance. Whatever you choose, it will "color" your entire world.
Choose Love. Choose Light. Choose God.
Peace & Blessings,
john "the Light Coach"
the mind.......2006-12-29
I dont recomend this book unless your truly mentally strong. It will blow your mind.
If you read this review then consider that you might be looking for this book..........2006-10-17
Every person who reviews this book as a "True Christian" is mildly to seriously offended. I have been raised a Catholic and I adore this book. Any religion that tries to be the only way to Heaven, the only source of knowledge, the only one who can write a book is afraid of something. The ideas that are presented in this book are beautiful and the very thing I never found in the religion where I had placed my belief. The problem here is that everyone who dislikes this book or any other spiritual or religious text besides the one they believe in, has to hurt someone else in order to be right. My own mother, when presented with my thoughts and questions, can become angry and defensive. I think that anything that is true must not need to sell itself that hard. This book is for every person of every faith or no faith at all. It is simply for the person who is seeking to find out who they are. I felt like I came home when I realized that not another person who has walked this earth was any closer to god then I am...they just remembered more of who they were. So I pick this book because it says something that I already know about myself and just didn't remember. I can't read it without crying because there is nothing like knowing, even for a moment that you have stepped out of the shadow and back into the light. So for all you "True Christians" this is not the party line. This is the story that the un-true christians are looking for.
Communion with God.......2006-07-29
I've read many of Neale Walsch books and just loved them. Communion with God was way over my head. Complex book to read and identify with all the mumble jumble.
Put the book down after several chapters of reading.
Vital Reading.......2006-06-26
It's all stuff that you always knew intuitively, maybe when you were still very little, but society and parents managed to get something else into your head, and you've been suffering ever since.
Communion with God puts it straight for you. A word to Fundamentalist Christians, this book will upset you, so better stick to the only book you think is true. The idea that man can still communicate and have a relationship with God, and is as capable of achieving the same state as Jesus Christ, are very dangerous to the current Church dogma and hierarchy. Best leave this one alone.
For those who Fundamentalist Christianity leaves empty and still wanting a saner, more consistent conception of God that hits much closer to the mark (or perhaps on it, but I don't want to make this book another 'scripture'), this book is absolutely recommended. I'd say it does the job that the Conversations with God series did, only much more efficiently, with fewer pages and stronger, more lucid ideas.
Book Description
The Unquenchable Worshipper issues a passionate call for a return to an unadulterated, first-love lifestyle of worship. In his first book release, respected worship leader and songwriter Matt Redman writes: "The revelation of God is the fuel for the fire of our worship. And there is always more fuel for the fire. When we open the eyes of our heart, God's revelation comes flying at us from so many different angles." Open the eyes of your heart and let the gut-level message of The Unquenchable Worshipper cause you, like martyred missionary Jim Elliot, to say, "Saturate me with the oil of Thy Spirit, that I may be aflame. Make me Thy fuel O flame of God."
It's time to dive into the heart of worship-will you take the plunge?

The very practical book on worship........2007-01-12
I'm a worship leader in NJ and I've require all our musicians and vocalists to read this book. My philosophy is that everyone doing worship during a service is leading the congregation in worship. Not just the one who may talk or sing the most. This book by Matt Redman is a valuable help to everyone involved with a worship team or seeking to understand what worship is all about in a deeper way. Do yourself a favor and read this wonderful devotional type book by a very experienced composer and worship leader. It will enhance your own time with the Lord and make you a better worship leader for your church.
The Irresistable Read.......2007-01-09
This book was recommended to me by a fellow marathoner. It reads quickly, and you will want to read in a single sitting. It speaks well of the heart and relentless desire of the worshipper of Jesus, to give Him endless and countless praise and worship for His work on the cross. It's also penned by a dude with amazing musical gifts. I will probably re-read many times,as it validates one's desire to worship even in the midst of the storms of life..........
The Unquenchable Worshipper: Coming Back to the Heart of Worship (Worship Series) .......2006-02-25
We were taken back to the Heart of Worship!!!!
you're not alone.......2006-01-01
Ever feel like no one else gets it? Like you sometimes can't connect with other people who although share your faith, seem to have a different taste for God than you do?
In my opinion this is the book for you. I found myself finishing this book in a short time because not only did I feel challenged, but I realized that I'm not a complete failure simply because I struggle in my focus on my God.
Matt lays out a very profound and understandable set of lessons that will help you understand what life long/ eternity long worship really is.
This isn't the gospel according to Matt or any book of vague ideas. It's a great devotional on intamacy and thirst for our God.
As a worship pastor/ youth pastor of a church I can't tell you what a blessing this reading really is.
Great Inspiration to Clear Your Heart to Worship.......2005-08-07
I highly recommend this little book for its insight and its heart to Seek GOD and to find Him when you seek Him with all your heart. Though he is my favorite male Christian singer/song writer and this book is about worship the heart of the book is Jesus and knowing Him and laying aside the sin that so easily besets us. I was inspired, touched and enlightened by this book and I pray it sets the same fire in you as it did in me to cleanse our own temples with His presense and importance.
Whatever was written to worship leaders applies to all. Do you find yourself self conscious in worship well guess who your looking at. Do you find others and their worship distracting who are you looking at? Who is the center of your worship can you get lost in Loving the LORD and forget all around you. This and more is discussed with a heart to the answer Jesus.
In chapter 9 a dichotomy is discussed that very much spoke to my heart. Having found Christ or been found by Him we are filled with Him yet still hunger? In fact the Hunger and desire only increases. Well, if we are to never thirst then how is this possible, I let Matt answer that. Also the fire of justice and perfection is implanted in us as we know This isnt the way it ought to be. Very important and enlightning.
A good companion to this book would be Lou Giglio's The Air I Breathe. GOD bless and enjoy and grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. JB

Must read.......2007-05-13
This is a must read for all Christians who care about meaningful worship.
Marva is marvelous!.......2007-04-28
Marva is marvelous and if you cannot have her as a guest speaker then this book is the next best thing. It will help you resist the temptation to dumb down your worship in order to "attract" new members.
Instead of the thoughtless quick fix method to filing pews (which has a mixed record of success at best) Marva makes the case for quality worship with outstanding, scripturally sound content that will last the week for one and all.
Do buy this book. Share it with the worship committee, your pastor and your governing board of your church. Indeed it would be a great adult education study book or circle study. Before you and your church toss out all that is good and faithful, read why what we do in worship matters so much, in this, the best rationale I know for staying a faithful church.
If you find this review helpful you might want to read some of my other reviews, including those on subjects ranging from biography to architecture, as well as religion and fiction.
A one-sided attack.......2006-12-27
Though a great deal of her book deals with a one-sided attack against what she sees and trivial and "dumbed down" modern worship music, Dawn correctly warns us against going to either of the extremes of traditionalism versus contemporary worship and falls us instead to hold a "dialectical tension of traditionalism and reformation" (Page 93).
While appropriately trivializing some of the more trivial modern praise songs, Dawn seems to ignore the fact that a good deal of modern praise music is simply a verse or two from the Psalms being put to music.
Dawn endorses Thomas Gieschen's criteria for acceptable worship music. First it must not give an invitation to repent or believe the gospel. In support of this point, it is argued that worship is for edification rather than for evangelism. However, all edification necessarily begins with the cross and does not stop short of our appropriation of it. Secondly it rejects any form of synergism that pictures man as searching for God. I would conclude that this means we cannot set Deuteronomy 4:30 or other similar passages of Scripture to music.
Dawn quote Gaddy as stating that "worship is for God. Only!" She then concludes that this foundational criteria would eliminate most battles over worship styles. While it is true that we must never lose sight of the vertical relationship of worship, 1 Corinthians 14 points out a horizontal dimension to worship when it speaks of the legitimate concern we ought to take when an unbeliever attends a worship service.
The place where I agree with Dawn is in her endorsement of a variety of styles that can be used in worship (page 180). She is not inherently opposed to any particular style, but only against limiting worship to one style (Page 187). She quotes Martin Luther's rhetorical question: "Why let the devil have all the good tunes?"
Re-Educating Youth Through God's Intervention........2006-10-31
By the 1990s, the dumbing down of the educational system had infiltrated and become a quandry for the religious establishment. In the thirty years since Johnson had started this dumbing down process for all of the children to be equal in America, they must talk alike whether they think alike or not. The churches had to intervene and train children who did not live in the ghettoes that what they had been learning was brainwashing and they had to reach out to put some semblance of intelligent design to the thinking of most of the population. We are not all New Orleans where they've always talked that way.
The church schools had to try to put matters straight so that upper class and middle class students could return to the level of their parents in the educational system. Our Methodist college in Pulaski never did dumb down as we had only a few foreigners who wished to be taught proper English and not the dumbed down slang out of the projects of America. It took a dumb and stupid person in authority to make this country into the uneducated nation it has become. Drugs and crime proliferated as the language skills hit skid row. Movies were as bad and apparently the teachers were forced to teach in an inferior way. Surely, their higher education courses did not use that kind of language.
Some of the lower classes still don't know grammar in this enlightened age of history. We have a lot to answer to as a person who only pretended to be a historian was only a creative writer. Now, the local daily newspaper has one named Jamie Satterfield, could be female or male, who uses adjectives for complete sentences and uses opinions instead of facts in front page articles. It riles me no end and I complain. But trying to get anything done properly in this town is almost impossible.
Churches have the most influence on young people than the schools these days and the trend can be reversed with the right leaders. Tutors can be used to show them proper English. Now, I understand why the Orientals who come to this town refuse to speak English. Today's version of English grammar is not correct in any language. They prefer to talk in their own dialects and funny-sounding fast talk so that we can't understand what they are saying. The churches could do the same by teaching the old way of Bible talk.
Don't Let Worship Be Flushed Down America's Cultural Toilet.......2005-07-16
This book, along with Thomas Long's "Beyond the Worship Wars" is a must read for all committed Christians, particularly those who are worried about where both Christ-centered worship and church membership numbers are headed in the current wasteland of contemporary culture.
Dawn goes into how we got into the current cultural mess in our society, though given the book's age it is a bit dated as it refers primarily to "Boomers" (from what I've gathered in other research, the situation is similar for GenX, just worse). She then critiques the well meaning (I hope) attempts to reach America's dumbed down, short attention span, commitment phobic generation with worship styles that would be attractive to them, no matter the cost to the Gospel.
Dawn critiques not only contemporary worship but traditionalISM as well. She sees the function of worship (quite correctly, I might add) not as means of attracting numbers (AKA "worship evangelism"), but of having a personal experience with part of God, forming the character of the worshiper, and building community. Both extremes are the antithesis of this.
I have two minor criticisms of this book. Dawn, who I guess has no training in science or technology, tends to present as scientific fact the results of single research studies which appear to be unverified by independent work (to be fair, some are unlikely to be reproduced anytime soon) and might not have had significant peer review. Second she, unlike Long, is a little vague when it comes to solutions, though they seem to be there somewhere. In other words, she can ramble a bit.
