Book Description
Whether you're 23 or 63 now is the time to start eating the SuperFoods way. By incorporating these foods into you regular diet you can actually change the course of your biochemistry and stop the incremental changes in your body that lead to diseases such as type II diabetes, hypertension, certain cancers, obesity, and Alzheimer's.
So what are the SuperFoods? Don't worry. You won't have to subsist on sprouts and shots of wheatgrass juice. The fourteen foods are beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea, tomatoes, turkey, walnuts and yogurt. Not exactly a broccoli fan? No problem. Each food comes with a list of "sidekicks" that provide similar benefits. Have cabbage, turnips, or bok choy instead.

A solid, general rubric for proper eating.......2007-09-26
SuperFoods is a great leap in the right direction for anyone looking to improve his or her diet.
Positives: the format and suggestions are some of the best in the diet class. It's easy to follow, the suggestions are not too expensive, and the book includes a great deal of scientific explanations and references.
Negatives: the author suggests consuming beans, oats, soy, and dairy. These foods are generally beneficial for one's health, however after reading The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Food You Were Designed to Eat by Dr. Cordain, I learned that human bodies are not properly engineered to consume such foods.
Conclusion: this book is a tremendous foundational guide to proper nutrition. For those who want to take it to the next level, I would recommend The Paleo Diet instead.
Saved my life!.......2007-09-16
My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. I highly recommend SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle!
An Eye Opener.......2007-09-04
I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and thought that I followed a balanced diet... well, this book opened my eyes. I loved it because it explains how each of the superfoods contributes to your health, the recipes are very easy to make and since I started putting it in practice, I feel a lot better and more energized :-) Great purchase !
Excellent book to promote healthy food choices.......2007-08-23
This is an excellent book to help learn more about making beneficial food choices as part of a healthy lifestyle. It is not a fad diet or gimmick to lose weight fast. In addition to the 14 suggested "Super Foods," the author identifies "sidekicks" for each, which offer similar benefits. The author also provides recipes, offering guidance on how to prepare these foods using healthy cooking choices, too. (I've already tried a few and they're fabulous!) Finally, throughout the entire book the author supports his information with research-based evidence, with references, from peer-reviewed journals.
Although the focus is not on losing weight, when you take the advice of the author and begin to eat all of the foods necessary for a long, healthy life, you have little room left to eat the garbage that keeps on the extra pounds!
This is not just a book I recommend to friends and family - this is one I've already purchased several copies of for friends and family!
Healthy eating.......2007-08-15
This is a super book for people wanting to make good food choicies. What set this book apart is that the various foods listed are accompanied by what diseases and conditions they help to prevent or combat. And, suprisingly, none of the foods are exotic foods!
A surprise benefit of has turned out to be weight loss. I am assuming it is from the low glycemic index.
Customer Reviews:
Easy book to read but not the fastest solution.......2007-04-22
This is an easy solution but will not solve it fast. You will probably get it done in about 3-5 minutes. I have used Jeff Conquers the Cube in 45 seconds and Minh Thai's The Winning Solution in the 80's. I used to average 38 seconds with a best time of 23 seconds using the Jeff Conquers the Cube method.
I just got the Jeff Conquers the Cube book again and after about a month average just under a minute and have a best time of 38 seconds.
this is the one you want.......2006-12-03
Superb book - short and to the point. The explanations are clear and simple. Nourse even provides expert variations for when you get the hang of his solution. WARNING - it's virtually impossible to find this book in most brick-and-mortar book stores (nowadays puzzle and game shelves are filled mainly with books on sudoku or poker), so buy this book ONLINE if you get a chance. You might never find another copy!
A Very Practical Key to Solving Rubik's Cube.......2006-07-25
I finally could solve Rubik's cube after getting this book. Nourse begins with nomenclature for each of the faces: Front, Back, Left, Right, Top, and Bottom. (It does not matter which face is the front, as long as one consistently uses that face as the front, etc.). He has a nomenclature for each move. For example, (B+) means one quarter turn of the back face in a clockwise direction, (F-) means one quarter turn of the front face in a counterclockwise direction, and (T2) means a half-turn of the top face (does not matter in which direction). In using this guide, one first solves the top face of Rubik's cube, then the side faces, and finally the bottom face. Helpful diagrams guide the reader at each step. He points out that the center squares can only rotate in place.
Nourse even has a place for humor in his little book. He says (p. 20) not to unglue and move around any of the colors, or else one may not be able to solve the cube even if one outlives the universe.
it works, it's all about patterns.......2005-05-27
I remember tinkering around with Rubik's Cube back in high school but was never all that serious about solving it. Recently, I've decided to pick up a cube, get a book to learn some patterns and then finally solve it. With the aid of this book, I solved the cube in less than 30 minutes. I solved two thirds of the cube without using any of the patterns in the book. The last fews steps to solving the cube are kind of tricky but the book explains it very well and has easy to memorize patterns. So with some practice, I can see how someone can easily solve the cube in less than a minute by using the patterns in this book or variations of them.
Fond Memories of 20 Years Ago.......2003-01-10
Sometime I guess in 1981 or 1982 I purchased this book at the Woolworth's in Janesville, Wisconsin having bought a Rubik's cube and having been completely engrossed in it. I was 12 or 13 at the time. The book was (at is) a straightforward explanation of how to take a mangled cube and get it back in shape. My personal record is one minute and nineteen seconds. I've managed to hold onto that cube and this book over the years. It has a very high geek nostalgia factor.

A to Z Crossword Dictionary.......2007-09-26
Absolutely the best crossword puzzle dictionary on the market. I have worn out five copies over the years. I have bought others which have sat on the shelf, but this one I use every day. The best!!
very helpful.......2007-09-24
If you like doing crossword puzzles, this is the book for you. It has many updated things in it from the old book and well worth the price.
A crossword dictionary that I can actually use!.......2007-09-15
I enjoy doing the Sunday Washington Post crossword puzzles - but I'm not smart enough to complete one without a dictionary!! I had this dictionary years ago but through use it finally fell apart. I misplaced its name and bought another dictionary thinking all crossword dictionaries would be pretty much the same. Well, I don't know if it is just because I started with the original one I had but I found the next one (and then the next two) I bought were confusing to use. In some cases I had to search through multiple sections of the book to fine the item for which I was searching. I decided to finally look on Amazon to see if any of the front covers "rang a bell," and there it was. The dictionary arrived, and I am back to working through all the puzzles I have saved for the past year.
A to Z Crossword dictionary.......2007-09-03
It was just what I wanted. Great mailing service. Came way before I expected it.
well pleased.......2007-08-26
My husband wore out his first copy of this book. It was in pieces. We tried some other crossword dictionaries but they proved unsatisfactory.
He thinks this is by far the best of the books he has tried.

Secular religions are fascinating in the devotion and zealousness they breed, and in Texas, high school football has its own rabid hold over the faithful. H.G. Bissinger, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, enters into the spirit of one of its most fervent shrines: Odessa, a city in decline in the desert of West Texas, where the Permian High School Panthers have managed to compile the winningest record in state annals. Indeed, as this breathtaking examination of the town, the team, its coaches, and its young players chronicles, the team, for better and for worse, is the town; the communal health and self-image of the latter is directly linked to the on-field success of the former. The 1988 season, the one Friday Night Lights recounts, was not one of the Panthers' best. The game's effect on the community--and the players--was explosive. Written with great style and passion, Friday Night Lights offers an American snapshot in deep focus; the picture is not always pretty, but the image is hard to forget.
Book Description
The classic, best-selling story of life in the football-driven town of Odessa, Texas, with a new afterword that looks at the players and the town ten years later.
Return once again to the timeless account of the Permian Panthers of Odessa--the winningest high-school football team in Texas history. Odessa is not known to be a town big on dreams, but the Panthers help keep the hopes and dreams of this small, dusty town going. Socially and racially divided, its fragile economy follows the treacherous boom-bust path of the oil business. In bad times, the unemployment rate barrels out of control; in good times, its murder rate skyrockets. But every Friday night from September to December, when the Permian High School Panthers play football, this West Texas town becomes a place where dreams can come true. With frankness and compassion, H.G. Bissinger chronicles a season in the life of Odessa and shows how single-minded devotion to the team shapes the community and inspires--and sometimes shatters--the teenagers who wear the Panthers' uniforms.

FRIDAY NIGHT LETDOWN.......2007-09-26
I came into this one with high expectations, especially since I lived in Odessa for a short time in 1986 on a job assignment. Talk about a bleak and desolate place...But I was truly amazed at the hubub around the Panthers. I think that was Gary Gaines first year. I remember the dead-red build up before the Lee game. Saw it all firsthand as a very temporary transplant.
The book was a dissapointment. Okay, but not great. Maybe he should have just written a book about Boobie. He didn't talk nearly enough about the games, for instance. Probably half the book is devoted to off the field issues. Racism, favortism, school system, ect. The rest is Boobie, Boobie, Boobie. Could have been so much better. A letdown beacause it came off as some kind of expose piece.
Ok quick read but it's more tabloid than it is journalism.......2007-06-22
Ok book nothing outstanding. The writing I'd give about a 3. Pretty much college sophomore level. Negatively biased against almost everything generally considered good. A real hatchet job on just about everyone. The author bashes teachers, schools, colleges, parents, parenting, fans, churches, the school board, the coaches, he even spends a chapter bashing Bush #1 and the Republicans. He throws in some gratuitous scatalogical jokes about Bush. He goes out of his way to paint everyone in as poor a moral light as possible. In one case he beats up on a character but to obtain contrast later needs to paint that character in a good light so that he can paint someone else in a poor light.
I read the whole book in a few days at the beach. It's just an average book - not so bad that you put it down but nothing special. I can see the appeal especially to liberal boomer white America. It's the other white American that's bad in this book. You know the one that's not you or me. I figure the author must have won the Pulitzer by sullying some other sacred cow because honestly his writing just isn't that good. The metaphors he uses were unoriginal and were strangely forced in several cases. Read it if you got nothing better to do but I would think you should find better books on the subject of high school football.

"You saying I can't play football, all I know how to do is play football!" One of the famous quotes from Boobie Miles when he finds out that he can't be the star halfback he wanted. Back in Texas the Permian Panthers was in for a good football season, maybe even take state. With the star running back Boobie hurt, can they still pull it together? The answer to that and all the others is in the text of H.G. Bissinger's book Friday Night Lights. Friday Night Lights is a story about a football team playing their way to the state championship. My favorite part of the book would have to be the last game at state where they were getting completely pounded on but at the very end the Panthers were making an amazing come back. I think this is my favorite part because it is just so glorious and suspenseful and I just know exactly what that feels like. It seems that one big message just keeps coming up. It seems that the book is trying to tell you that you should never give up. To never let anyone hold you back, never let them stop you in believe what you strongly believe, just always try, just never give up. Friday Night Lights was pretty much an all around good book. Every part was exciting and really made you not want to atop reading. The only part that was kind of bad, but more of just a bummer, was the ending but only because I didn't wand it to end that way. But I guess it had more of meaning ending that way. I think all of you out there that like a good sports book that you should definitely go and pick Friday Night Lights up.
friday night lights.......2007-06-04
i thought that this book was just ok. it was just a meteocre book for me. yes, it is a good representation of big town fame and spotlight in a small town. it just did not hit the spot for me thats it.
heartbeat of America.........2007-05-30
a fabulous book about the Permian Panthers of Odessa, TX and the MOJO magic that permeates thoughout the city. H.G. Bissinger has found the heartbeat of America in high school football as he writes in fascinating detail the story of the 1988 Permian Panthers. It could be any high school across American as the tradition, passion and politics of local high school football reign over a city that would seemingly have no identity without it's high scool football team. A wonderful book.

Customer Reviews:
Too old, too weird.......2007-06-28
I got this book becasue of some good reviews but I did not enjoy reading it, by the color code book if you want to know about nutrition.
This book is your best medicine.......2007-03-09
If you are wondering why you've never heard of this book, it's because the pharmaceutical industry and medical profession are not making any money off of Dr. Bieler's recommendations. The style of the writing may also make people think that this book is oversimplified or not valid, based on unscientific methods or dated terminology. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. Everything is based on empirical evidence that Dr. Bieler quantified and validated. With very straightforward methods, Dr. Bieler leads his patients through recovery, allowing their bodies to heal themselves. This book is by far the most important testimonial to the secret of health that the food/pharma/med industries do not want you to know about. Dr. Bieler was a pioneer before his time, probably scorned by his peers, and yet he had the key to health and longevity that industry wishes they could market. If you are opposed to the corporate control of your access to information, limitations on the availability of decent and affordable health care or are just plain tired of the propaganda and blatant lies that are perpetuated to make windfall profits at the expense of your health, then you need to read this book.
Do you own a body? Read this book! .......2006-07-09
Mr. Bieler used to prescribe drugs just like any other doctor, until his own health broke down. He then started researching the relationship between food and health and healed himself and patients in the worst shape which were sent to him, by (natural) food alone. The book gives one understanding about how Nature intended the body to be fed. With this understanding one will know how to use food as one's best medicine and become or remain healthy. Everyone on this planet owns a body; I consider this book as Book One for every body-owner!
Why aren't there more doctors like Bieler in today's world?!.......2004-05-21
Dr. Bieler's book totally changed my life and outlook regarding the power and importance of proper nutrition as a cure to maintain optimum health and that drugs are merely harmful chemicals that can damage our internal organs. The sad truth today is that society is conditioned to rely too heavily on medication, even though they are warned yet still cannot follow this SIMPLE philosophy. Their time will come when they will face a lot of health degenerative challenges which all thanks are owed to killer drugs regardless of dosage (be it penicillin, insulin injection, or Tylenol etc). This is the book that everyone should read if they wish to live a healthier, longer life. I give credit to Dr. Bieler who lived ahead of his time. His wisdom and knowledge is evident as this book is written in a very straightforward style for readers to understand. How much this book holds your interest will depend how much you care about your own health. We only have one body (health) in a lifetime. It is worth your investment and money in your own pocket.
SHEDS LIGHT ON INNER ENVIRONMENT AND GERMS A++++.......2003-02-18
You can always tell really good information that has been found through the true science of research, study and actual use. It withstands the decades of fad diets and medical phases. That is what is offered in this book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK if you are sick of the non-sense that we are fed everyday through media and orthadox medicine. We are supposedly the most medically advanced species on the earth yet we are the sickest. This book shows us that what is considered normal and healthy in our society, really isn't. It gives great information on the link between diet and disease. It was a relief to read a health book that doesn't rant and rave about how to build the immune system (the current fad in alternative medicine). Obviously building the immune system is not the only key to preventing disease. If everyone followed the advise in this book, companys that prey on our bad health would go out of business.

Book Description
Her man demanded loyalty, but her body wouldn’t obey.
Have you ever rolled over in the middle of the night and realized you were doing things you swore you’d never do? Sexing brothers you vowed you’d never touch? Bending backwards and stooping lower than you ever thought you’d stoop? Well if you can feel me even a little bit, then let me hit you with a story that just might blow your mind. . . .
Nineteen-year-old Juicy Stanfield is the sexy young girlfriend of Granite “G” McKay, owner of Harlem’s notorious G-Spot Social Club. A drug dealer with a lethal streak, he runs Harlem with an iron fist. But even the cash and the bling can’t keep Juicy from getting restless, and while G fulfills her every material desire, she’s burning up with unrequited sexual energy. To cheat on him would mean a death sentence; so Juicy finds pleasure in secret ways: fantasizing on crowded subways or allowing her eyes to hungrily take in the male dancers on the club’s ladies night.
But as Juicy’s sexual cravings grow stronger, one thing becomes frighteningly clear: She’s a virtual prisoner in G’s dangerous world. As G begins to suspect her of playin’ him, he pulls the reins he keeps on her even tighter. If she’s ever to escape and get a life of her own she must find a way to start stashing away some of G’s cash. But doing that under G’s watchful eye is a challenge she might not live up to–especially when her appetite tempts her with the deadliest desire of all: G’s very own son. . . .

G-Spot
Can I say, "oh, my goodness". I am so sorry that I let this book sit on my bookshelf for the months that it did before I started reading it. This book was a quick read. This book was amazing.
Juicy Mo is a nineteen year old girl who wasn't given an opportunity to be a young lady, a woman. Upon her grandmother's death, she quickly shuffled from one house to another - Grandma's a little girl, to Granite McKay's (G), her man who ruled his thrown with an iron fist, as a woman.
Juicy Mo was forced to live a life, if that is what you called it, alongside G. G, a tyrant to say the least, is dirty. The beatings, the drugs, the club, the lack of sexual drive, the mystery behind his missing wife, and ultimately the events surrounding his son.
There is so much that I want to spill about Juicy, Gino, Jimmy, G and his crew...but you have to read it for yourself. Believe me when I say that you won't be able to put this book down. Noire did the damn thing. I am definitely reading the rest of this author's books.
Definitely had me hooked..........2007-09-11
Let me just say, I got this book last week and wanted to have it as a book to read on the train to/from work. However, last night I just couldn't do it. I was half way through the book. Next thing I knew it was 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 1am then finally 2am when I finished the book. I'm usually a fast reader but I had to keep going over certain parts of the book because I couldn't believe what I was reading. Like some readers, I found myself, laughing aloud, getting teary eyed and sitting with my mouth open in shock.
Although, when I finished the book I found it kind of difficult to go to sleep. Now I am not no punk but I replayed the last chapters in my mind and that would have kept me up til 5am.
This book overall was definitely a page turner. I want to read Noire's other novels for myself, that's just how I am. I get discounts anyway lol sorry Noire. I'm upset though, cause this book was such a page turner I don't have nothing to read today on the way home lol.
Good read Noire, keep up the good work. I agree that it's not for the faint at heart but there aren't too many erotica labeled books that are.

can't stop reading!.......2007-03-11
I could not put this book down. What a great book! One reviewer said to buy a second book to give away. I did, but I should have bought several extras! Now I'm buying more. This book has helped me to recognize God's purpose for my life and the incredible gifts He has given to each of us. A great gift for anyone, especially for someone who has ever been in the construction industry.
Fantastic Book!.......2007-01-22
This was one fantastic book that I could hardly put down. It is a great story of a man with dreams that were larger then life. He always said there are no big jobs, only small machines. Mr. LeTourneau had the capacity to envision larger and larger machines to make man more productive.
This book is 290 pages short with 26 untitled chapters which cover most of Mr. LeTourneau's life. From his childhood and quiting school in the 7th grade to his struggles and almost bankruptcy, he does a great job at unfolding his life the way it happened. He tells of how his business grew during the depression and of the great success he had in creating machines to do a job that none had done before. He was laughed at by people who couldn't see the value in some of his gigantic creations which were ahead of their time. But he didn't allow other people's negativity stop him from accomplishing his goal of benefiting man by making him far more productive then he would have been otherwise.
He talks about his relationship with God and how he believed that God was with him to protect him and help him to succeed. LeTourneau lived his beliefs by helping others and starting a school called LeTourneau Collage. He had given 90% of his stock in his business to a foundation he started for the benefit of others. He is not overpowering with this but just lets his beliefs take a natural course through the book.
Overall I think anyone would really enjoy this book. It really was one of the more interesting biographies I have read. His life again proves that it doesn't matter what kind of education you have or where you are financially, the only thing that can stop you from fulfilling your dreams is yourself!
Mover of Men & Mountains.......2007-01-09
A must-read for every Christian, and a great tool for ministry.
Blessings to Amazon!
What an incredible life story!.......2006-05-23
The first time I read Movers of Men and Mountains was when I started my undergrad work at LeTourneau University. I have since purchased probably ten copies because mine keep getting "borrowed". Go ahead and order two while you're ordering so you'll always have one to keep while sharing!
Everyone should read this book. Mr. LeTourneau is such an incredible inspiration to us all. The story is fantastic, the book is witty and interesting, and the message is life-changing.
Great Read.......2005-06-13
As a LeTourneau University Graduate, I felt compelled to read this book so I could learn more about the man who founded my school. I was impressed by the things he accomplished, witnessed, and experienced in his life. The flow of the book was great and I had trouble putting it down. Truly this man is an inspiration to all men of faith who feel they should do more for God in the workplace.
Book Description
"One of the sassiest, most appealing of the recent spate of female gunshoes . . . 'G' is for glorious, galloping read, and I can't wait for 'H' ."
--Louise Bernikow, Cosmopolitan
Good and bad things seem to be coming in threes for Kinsey Millhone: on her thirty-third birthday she moves back into her renovated apartment, gets hired to find an elderly lady supposedly living in the Mojave Desert by herself, and makes the top of ex-con Tyrone Patty's hit list. It's the last that convinces Kinsey even she can't handle whoever's been hired to whack her, and she gets herself a bodyguard: Robert Dietz, a Porsche-driving P.I. who takes guarding Kinsey's body very seriously. With Dietz watching her for the merest sign of her usual recklessness, Kinsey plunges into her case. And before it's over, she'll unearth the gruesome truth about a long-buried betrayal and, in the process, come fact-to-face with her own mortality. . . .
"Wit is the most versatile weapon in Sue Grafton's well-stocked arsenal, and she uses it with disarming precision. . . . Grafton excels in this milieu."
--Newsweek
"The story is complex; the body-count high; the sexual encounters feverish; and the villains chilling--in another can't-put-it-down outing for this talented author."

Sue Grafton Fan.......2007-07-14
I haven't read this book in at least 6 yrs...but I still remember parts of that were sooo funny that everytime I see G is for Gumshoe...I start laughing! The part that still resonates in my mind...is of her in the motel room with her bra (stuffed with her socks) over her ears!! It was, for me, one of her best!!
Good, except for a continuing problem with this series.......2007-03-03
This "review" is not intended to provide the reader with any particularly "helpful" information about "G is for Gumshoe". This has been adequately accomplished by the preceding reviewers, with which I generally agree. However, if I were to add something, it would be how puzzling I find it that only one or two of those reviewers seem to be bothered by the fact that Kinsey permitted her opponent to outwit her and to get the better of her time after time. And Kinsey and her bodyguard were both so inept at the end of the book that it ruined the entire story for me. Obviously, others do not see it that way and are less demanding than I of my heroines and heroes.
The Kinsey Millhone series is, in general, well-written and always good for a few hours of entertainment. I have read most of them, through "S is for Silence." As others have pointed out, the endings in these books are sometimes a little abrupt and occasionally less than satisfying, but that is true of many books.
What bothers me much more about the Kinsey Millhone character is that, while she is presented as a strong, intelligent and independent "with-it" woman, she keeps screwing up when it really counts - like when her life is in danger! In this particular story, I lost track of how many times Kinsey should have (or at least easily could have) been killed. Worse yet, as the story gets going, she enlists the aid of a supposedly super expert in protection and personal security. Nevertheless, he turns out to be of no help whatsoever when the chips are down. They are both repeatedly outwitted by "the hit man," and all of the "good guys" are saved in the end only by the intervention of a third-party.
Oh sure, Kinsey somehow always survives in the end, but in real life if she made as many mistakes as she makes in these stories, she would have been buried long ago - with only Henry to grieve her death, since she seems incapable of a long-term relationship. (These two problems cause me to hesitate about setting these books aside for my daughters to read when they are older.) I have the same problem with the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. I find that Dana Stabenow does a much better job of having her Kate Shugak character act "in character" throughout the entire story.
G is also for great.......2007-03-03
I believe the sixth book in the series is the eighth I've read. I have nine more unread on my shelf. This is slightly weaker than its predecessors. If, as I suspect, this is as weak as her writing gets, I'm mighty impressed. It's a fine book, covering some ground I've tried and failed to write about myself, within the confines of a workable mystery and the quirky wit we know Grafton for. I'm jealous, okay?
G is for Gumshoe by Sue Grafton.......2006-12-06
I loved it. I'm now officially hooked on the Grafton series!!
G is for Gumshoe.......2005-08-14
Excellent story line whole series is very well written only flaw in the this book and the others in the series is that the endings are pretty abrupt leaving some issues up in the air

The Climb is Russian mountaineer Anatoli Boukreev's account of the harrowing May 1996 Mount Everest attempt, a tragedy that resulted in the deaths of eight people. The book is also Boukreev's rebuttal to accusations from fellow climber and author Jon Krakauer, who, in his bestselling memoir, Into Thin Air, suggests that Boukreev forfeited the safety of his clients to achieve his own climbing goals. Investigative writer and Climb coauthor G. Weston DeWalt uses taped statements from the surviving climbers and translated interviews from Boukreev to piece together the events and prove to the reader that Boukreev's role was heroic, not opportunistic. Boukreev refers to the actions of expedition leader Scott Fischer throughout the ascent, implying that factors other than the fierce snowstorm may have caused this disaster. This new account sparks debate among both mountaineers and those who have followed the story through the media and Krakauer's book. Readers can decide for themselves whether Boukreev presents a laudable defense or merely assuages his own bruised ego.
Book Description
As the climbers of the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster vanished into thin air, one man had the courage to bring them down alive....On May 10, 1996, two commercial expeditions headed by expert leaders attempted to scale the world's largest peak. But things went terribly wrong. Crowded conditions, bad judgement, and a bitter storm stopped many climbers in their tracks. Others were left for dead, or stranded on the frigid mountain. Anatoli Boukreev, head climbing guide for the Mountain Madness expedition, stepped into the heart of the storm and brought three of his clients down alive. Here is his amazing story-of an expedition fated for disaster, of the blind ambition that drives people to attempt such dangerous ventures, and of a modern-day hero, who risked his own life to save others...

Into Thin Air take a back seat..........2007-09-09
Hands down beats out Into Thin Air. Thrash that 'other' novel and read this!
Far Superior to Into Thin Air!!.......2007-06-11
I've read most of the 96' Everest books and this phenomenal read surpasses Krakauer's slick narrative with simple language but raw and honest passion and consideration. If you have already read Into thin Air I strongly recommend reading this as well. It not only places the hyped 96' tragedy in better perspective, it also gives incredible insight into the Russian mindset.
Awesome book.......2007-05-10
I read this book after reading "Into Thin Air" (another excellent book). This is a highly recommended followup to "Into Thin Air". If you are interested in the business/logistics of an Everest expedition, as well as hearing about an amazing individual (Anatoli Boukreev), this book is highly recommended!
A great read.....very compelling........2007-02-12
What could have been written as an angry rebuttal to the slanted writings of Jon Krakauer's accountings of the 1996 Everest disaster, is actually a moving recounting of a tragedy that has no one single point of blame. Anatoli Boukreev details the series of fateful decisions made by the several parties involved, and drives home the ultimate message: Climbing Everest, and any peak above 8000 meters is, under the very best conditions, a life-threatening gamble with fate. This book is a must read for we armchair Everest buffs, and anyone who has read "Into Thin Air". Anatoli Boukreev was a legend and hero, and we are fortunate to have his words recorded before his tragic death .
The other side of a well-known story.......2007-01-01
Every story has two sides. In this book, readers of Jon Krakauer's best selling Into Thin Air can hear the other side of that particular tale. It's my opinion that no one ought to read one without also reading the other.
On May 10, 1996, a winter storm decided to attack the world's highest mountain in spring. Caught in the well-named Death Zone, so high above sea level that the bodies of climbers who linger there literally start to die, the members of two commercial expeditions fought desperately for survival. The leaders of both teams - New Zealander Rob Hall, and American Scott Fischer - died despite being world-class mountaineers and Everest veterans. So did three members of Hall's team, while a fourth barely got off the mountain alive. All of the Fischer guides and clients survived, though, and none suffered the kind of horrific frostbite that left Hall client Beck Weathers both maimed and disfigured. Why did things turn out so differently for the two teams, after both lost their leaders? Krakauer's book offers one answer. This book, co-authored by Scott Fischer's head guide, offers quite another.
Neither Anatoli Boukreev nor his co-author possesses Krakauer's well-honed journalistic skills. This is a much plainer work, in many ways; and it's definitely less readable. I found it just as compelling, though, and it's rich in source material. Thank goodness Boukreev completed it before his death, because his side of the story is well worth hearing.
