Book Description
She charmed America with her smart, likable, down-to-earth personality as she campaigned for her husband, then vice-presidential candidate John Edwards. She inspired millions as she valiantly fought advanced breast cancer after being diagnosed only days before the 2004 election. She touched hundreds of similarly grieving families when her own son, Wade, died tragically at age sixteen in 1996. Now she shares her experiences in Saving Graces, an incandescent memoir of Edwards’ trials, tragedies, and triumphs, and of how various communities celebrated her joys and lent her steady strength and quiet hope in darker times.
Edwards writes about growing up in a military family, where she learned how to make friends easily in dozens of new schools and neighborhoods around the world and came to appreciate the unstinting help and comfort naval families shared. Edwards’ reminiscences of her years as a mother focus on the support she and other parents offered one another, from everyday favors to the ultimate test of her own community’s strength—their compassionate response to the death of the Edwards’ teenage son, Wade, in 1996. Her descriptions of her husband’s campaigns for Senate, president, and vice president offer a fascinating perspective on the groups, great and small, that sustain our democracy. Her fight with breast cancer, which stirred an outpouring of support from women across the country, has once again affirmed Edwards’ belief in the power of community to make our lives better and richer.

saving graces.......2007-09-24
Felt this book artfully expressed loss. It included the gammet of feelings and expressions one might endure while experiencing loss of any type. Hopefully she also found solace in teaching us as well as finding herself. Would recommend to anyone because at some point, we all experience loss. Hopefully not as Elizabeth Edwards did.
My honor to read this life journey of E. Edwards.......2007-09-19
The book is a gift of her use of the English language. The use of words, the integrity of the writer shines through. She uses her gift to share her pain, pain many of us have felt but could not have put into words with the artistry that is just part of her. It is rare for a person to be able to put their soul in paper, but she has. Thank you, Elizabeth. Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers
Saving Graces.......2007-09-17
Great book, well written. It makes you realize you can overcome any obstacle in life with family and support from friends.
Excellent........2007-09-14
Eliabeth Edwards writes with painful honesty and hope. She is an extrordinary woman and this glimpse into her soul is a wonderful read.
Wonderful book!.......2007-09-13
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I got a whole new insight into the Edwards family. Elizabeth didn't shy away from the pain caused by the untimely death of their wonderful son, Wade, or her initial experience of her breast cancer treatment. There is also an additional chapter in this paperback book regarding the return of her cancer. Her humor cracked me up several times, and I was so inspired by the whole family. They are certainly a strong family, both Elizabeth and John come from strong stock, and it shows. I for one, given the chance, will vote for John Edwards for President. I think he's the one we need to lead this country ahead and away from our current administration's boggling.

A great help!.......2007-09-21
I was recently "downsized" and starting a job search for the first time in 22 years. Fortunately some one recommended this book to me. Beginning a job search can be confusing and overwhelming. This book has great advice for every step of the way.
Part of my company "goodbye package" was a few months of services with a career counseling firm. Many on the concepts from the firm are contained in this book. I have just recommended this book to a friend who is unhappy in her current job.
You've probably heard people talk about the importance of networking/using your network. ("It's all in who you know.") That is a central theme in this book, as it enlightens you on how to make use of the people you know -- friends, family, co-workers, friends of friends, etc. -- to find opportunities and land interviews.
A book worth having.
Your reference guide to a healthy job-hunting experiance.......2007-08-05
Whether you are a new graduate looking for a job or an experienced employee who wants to
change his/her job, pick up this enriching and engaging book to guide you through to a healthy
job hunting experience.
Mostly Common Sense.......2007-07-09
Great book to use as a refresher, but I found it to be a compilation of stories and anecdotes that were mostly common sense.
What color is your parachute review.......2007-07-08
This book is a helpful tool in career choice making. It is especially insightful for self evaluation during the career search. This book helps the seeker to become more organized and narrow the search to an area best adapted for the individual.
This book was a requirement for one of my master's level courses dealing with career development. We did the flower exercise and it was quite revealing. The work book which was designed to accompany this book deals precisely with this exercise. I would definitely recommend this book to those exiting high school, community college, trade school, or college at any level.
What Color is Your Parachute.......2007-06-30
This is a funny, well-written book, but more importantly, he does an excellent job in helping the reader find the job that best suits their interests, passions and talents.

Me to We review.......2007-05-21
Free the Children is a fantastic organization, and reading more about it inspired me to live more of the "Me to We" philosophy. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you..........2007-05-07
I enjoyed this book immensely. Especially, the universal, multi-cultural worldview of the authors. Initially, I borrowed it from our library system in Maryland to see whether I wanted to add it to my collection. Then I purchased the book on amazon.com and gifted it to my friends in Eagle River, Alaska. I purchased the CD to listen to in my car. The concept of "me to we" is not new; however the book is based on the authors' experiences and successful ventures on behalf of the children of the world. As you encourage others to be less materialistic, be blessed and continue to be a blessing to others.

If I could give it more stars I would..........2007-04-20
The Kielburgers have managed to do it yet again. This book certainly matches the quality of the others they have put out in the past. Though this book really is for everyone, it appeals to an adult population that may not have already been reached. I seldom purchase books for others and I have already purchased 2 copies for friends and plan to give even more. Though labeled as a self-help book, it is less of a self-help and more about how we can help others. It reminds us of our responsibility to others and provides inspiration to continue to good things with great love. This book is perfect for those who have traveled to third-world countries, are helping others in their own communities, are participating in service learning, and those who may need a glimpse of the world beyond their front door. This book is, hands down, my favorite book of all time and is a book that I continue to read over and over again. It is great to see the work and message of people like Joe Opatowski continued through this book! Buy it and you will not regret it!
Amazing!.......2007-04-05
Words cannot describe the impact this book has had on my life. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Today's society is so "me" focused, we forget about everything else. After reading this book I started my own 501C3 organization. It's not everyday you read a book that reminds you why we are all here.
ME TO WE tells exactly how and will serve as an inspirational guide especially recommended for public library collections........2007-02-09
The authors of ME TO WE are brothers who found that reaching out to others helped them be happier in their own lives: at age 12 Craig founded the international organization Free the Children, and human rights issues and work have led both to journeys around the world finding new connections. ME TO WE blends personal experiences with a philosophy geared to commitment and improving lives, offering the belief that individual action CAN make a difference in the world. ME TO WE tells exactly how and will serve as an inspirational guide especially recommended for public library collections.

Book Description
Updated with a new 12 week companion Bible study, Joanna Weaver's popular book shows women how to blend intimacy with Jesus and service for Him.
An invitation for every woman who feels she isn't godly enough...isn't loving enough...isn't doing enough
The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.
Then comes Jesus, right into the midst of your busy Mary/Martha life-and he extends the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters of Bethany. Tenderly he invites you to choose "the better part"-a joyful life of "living-room" intimacy with him that flows naturally into "kitchen service" for him.
How can you make that choice? With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story and its creative, practical strategies, Joanna shows how all of us-Marys and Marthas alike-can draw closer to our Lord, deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

Great for today's fast-paced women.......2007-10-01
I'm only in chapter 2 but I'm enjoying the parallels from Mary and Martha's life to my busy, fast-paced life. It's a good reminder to slow down and I think this is a message many women need to hear today. I highly recommend this book!
Not very Mary.......2007-09-21
This book should maybe have been written by co-authors, a Martha and a Mary.
I've always identified more with Mary, and for me the author didn't really capture her spirit. Ms. Weaver comes across as a struggling Martha trying to be more Mary, writing down Martha-esque strategies and tips for being more Mary. Perhaps she captures a mid-struggle Martha well, but she never gets very far into the heart of Mary.
An example from the book:
"You've known the Lord your whole life, and yet you haven't found the peace and fulfillment you've always longed for."
That's a very Marthaesque statement; it speaks to working very hard to live a Christian life without recognizing what God really wants from you. I don't even understand or relate to that experience (as a Mary, my struggles are in different areas). How do you know the Lord and not know peace? A Mary might have said it like this - "Peace and fulfillment found me and I was powerless to resist; I'm not sure how it happened, but his name was Jesus. Hallelujah!"
The author also gets overwraught with her struggles as a Martha. I'm not sure Jesus was condemning Martha for being task-oriented. Society can't function without task-oriented people. All he seems to be saying is that when God shows up at your door, spend the time being present with him. I'm not sure he's asking Martha to change who she is - he just seems to be saying "I'm here. Take a load off and spend some time getting to know me, Martha heart and all."
It appears that a lot of women who have enjoyed this study identify with Martha. If you identify with Martha and are looking for a book that will help you articulate your frustrations, this might be a good book for you. I'm not sure it has any great answers. I agree with other reviewers who commented that Ms. Weaver wasn't old enough to write this and offer mature wisdom.
Best Devotional Commentary on a Popular Passage.......2007-09-17
I've read a lot of commentaries over the years that deal with the Martha and Mary passage in Luke 10:38-42. None of them enable the reader to apply the truths there as this book does. While this title is directed primarily toward women, men can learn much from it as well. What Joanna Weaver does here is to promote a balance between the productive Martha and the pensive Mary. She describes the value of both, although acknowledging that most of today's women have far more problems with the Mary side of the equation than with the Martha side. This book would make a great women's Bible study -- in fact, several ladies in my church are using it for that very purpose. This title is excellent -- I recommend it highly!
Inspirational .......2007-08-30
We have been using this book, A Mary Heart in a Marth World", in our bible studies on Wednesdays and what a blessing it has been! It is aimed towards women but men will enjoy it just as much. And you won't believe the conversations it sparks! It's an excellent source of information and inspiration that you can use again and again!
Grew our personal relationship with God.......2007-08-01
We did this as a 6 week summer Bible Study (two chapters a week). We met in the evening at different public locations and prayed and discussed the study guide questions. All of us REALLY enjoyed the study! It has made us want to have a more intimate relationship with our Lord. We feel convicted and rejuvenated.

A Worthwhile Read for Any Multi-Family Real Estate Investor.......2007-09-30
I purchased and read this book after hearing an interview that talked about Ken's next book in the series--the more advanced version of this book. I've been a real-estate investor for some years and along with my two partners we own 1800 units in three western states. I've never before read an investment book that I didn't have some major disagreements with before reading this one. Actually, the only thing surprising to me was that Ken doesn't provide emergency lock-out service for his residents. We do, but many things in this business are counter-intuitive. I'd like to know his reasons. It's too bad he doesn't have a blog--and even though I'm not reviewing his personal website, he needs an update including downloads of the forms he promises to have available there in the book (they're still coming soon according to the web-site, but it's 3 years since the book came out).
There seems to be a lot of confusion among the reviewers as to who this book should appeal to. I think to all: from beginner to seasoned investor. Some who feel it doesn't address them in the reviews haven't paid attention. Buying single family homes and renting them is speculation. Small mom and pop rentals are also not investing any more than is flipping homes. I've watched these speculators come and go over the years--good luck to them they'll need it. Meanwhile if you're an ambitious 20 something who wants to go into real-estate who doesn't have the money, go to work for someone like me, or if you like more structure, for a large property management company and learn the business and you'll find lots of money available to you. If you're older, like I was, find some partners, take the risk and plan to work.
A saying I've always remembered is: Wise men learn from others' mistakes, fools from their own, and the rest just don't learn. I've always aspired to be at least a fool, but I wouldn't hesitate to learn from the mistakes of others. I recommend the book.
Need more concrete answers.......2007-08-02
Book is a good read, but I felt I needed more concrete answers to my questions. Maybe more strategies or specific steps to take in different scenarios.
I have found another book that answered my questions and had more strategies to share. Bubble Proof: Real Estate Strategies that Work in any Market by Tonja Demoff. Great read!
We'll talk about that later!.......2007-06-27
Author spends a lot of time telling you he will discuss it in a later chapter. Overall a decent book with relevent information.
The answer!.......2007-06-10
If you are serious about investing in real estate, then this is the real estate "Bible" of investing.
Great Real Estate Investment Book.......2007-05-14
This book was an excellent primer in Investing in Real Estate. I was extremely pleased with the easy to understand material, and guidelines it provided me on the subject. I would highly recommend it to anyone that is serious about investing in real estate.

Book Description
Men are right. The “relationship talk” does not help. Dr. Patricia Love’s and
Dr. Steven Stosny’s How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It
reveals the stunning truth about marital happiness:
Love is not about better communication.
It's about connection.
You'll never get a closer relationship
with your man by talking to him like you
talk to one of your girlfriends.
Male emotions are like women's sexuality:
you can't be too direct too quickly.
There are four ways to connect with a man:touch, activity, sex, routines.
Men want closer marriages just as much as women do,but not if they has to act like a woman.
Talking makes women move closer;
it makes men move away.
The secret of the silent male is this:
his wife supplies the meaning in his life.
The stunning truth about love is that talking doesn’t help.
Have you ever had this conversation with your spouse?
Wife: “Honey, we need to talk about us.”
Husband: “Do we have to?”
Drs. Patricia Love and Steven Stosny have studied this all-too-familiar dynamic between men and women and have reached a truly shocking conclusion. Even with the best of intentions, talking about your relationship doesn’t bring you together, and it will eventually drive you apart.
The reason for this is that underneath most couples’ fights, there is a biological difference at work. A woman’s vulnerability to fear and anxiety makes her draw closer, while a man’s subtle sensitivity to shame makes him pull away in response. This is why so many married couples fall into the archetypal roles of nagging wife/stonewalling husband, and why improving a marriage can’t happen through words.
How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It teaches couples how to get closer in ways that don’t require “trying to turn a man into a woman.” Rich in stories of couples who have turned their marriages around, and full of practical advice about the behaviors that make and break marriages, this essential guide will help couples find love beyond words.

A really good approach to helping marriage.......2007-09-22
This book was recommended by a friend. I liked it so well I bought copies for all five of my children (all married), and copies for some other people too. It has some very basic concepts well put. It is especially good for situations where there is reluctance to go to marriage counseling, showing that the individuals in the relationship can help the relationship better if they understand the challenges facing the other person.
Helpful Facts.......2007-06-27
As someone who is usually in some spiritual conversation about marriage and relationships, this book has been so helpful. The concrete differences between the sexes are important to know and not try to fix. The second half of the book starts out with compassion being the answer. It is the only answer.
I Love It. I gave it away and have to buy a new copy for myself
Required Reading.......2007-05-23
This is the best explanation of the differences of how men and women think. This should be required reading for ALL high schoolers. Absolute Required Reading for all couples comptemplating marriage !!!
A MUST for all married couples !!!
What great insights to improving your relationship.......2007-05-15
As a couple counsellor I have found the insights in this book the most refreshing information for years. It makes so much sense and is so simple yet so profound. anyone wanting to create a safer and more intimate relationship must read this book.
Very helpful book, also well-written.......2007-05-13
This book is very well-written and is very helpful for couples working on making their marriage better. Like all marriage books, there are some generalizations in this book, but overall the ideas expressed in this book are backed by research and the experience of the authors.
As a student completing his dual masters in marriage and family therapy and mental health counseling, and also as a husband, I found the book helpful and useful and it rang true for me in many ways. My wife also enjoyed the book as well, and found it mostly accurate and helpful.

Customer Reviews:
Great Breezy Read, But . . ........2007-09-28
I love Stacy and Clinton's witty banter and usually sane fashion advice on their show, so when this book came out, I was thrilled. It was (and still is) unavailable at my public library, but after two or three read-throughs, I will probably be donating them my copy. The basic concept of the show is repeated here: Three workable looks for a variety of challenging body types are modelled on 26 actual people who are a stunning array of ages and sizes. It was truly amazing to see these 'plain' Janes and Joes transformed by clothing and a little grooming. However, as others have pointed out, 26 bodies doesn't begin to cover the gamut of potential figure problems out there. Clinton & Stacy are unfailingly kind and encouraging, which is refreshing, coming from their backgrounds in the snarky, body-conscious fashion world. But their biases as lifelong New York fashionistas show through in some of their selections--do most women in America need 3-inch metallic heels for day? Is your average American guy really going to wear a Godfather-style topcoat out on the town? Also, I like many readers have more than one major figure problem; what is a girl to do if she is top-heavy, with more than a little in the middle AND has short legs? My pet peeve with this book would have to be Stacy and Clinton each posing in it as a catagory. At 5'7" and a size 4, Stacy is representing the 'Average Curvy' body type. I submit that there isn't much either "Average" or "Curvy" about Stacy, who has scant need of the tips on 'creating a slimming line' in her spread. Please! What does the woman weigh, 115 pounds? Clinton is the men's "Tall" feature. At 6'4" the boy is indeed a tall drink of water, but his looks are essentially Clinton (= sartorial choices for a NYC fashion maven who is a gay man). This is a perfect glossy read for an afternoon, and has some valuable advice but is too bulky to take shopping, and too limited in scope to refer to very often. Borrow this, or share a copy with several friends.
One time read.......2007-09-03
I really liked this book but I wouldn't recommend buying it. I would try and find it at a local book store and look through it, making notes. The sections pertaining to each body type are very short. The most useful information for my type consisted of three whole pages, the rest of the book being useless for me. Once you read "your section" or body type you don't really need the book any more. Just my opinion.
Fun to read, very instructive.......2007-08-31
Though the 26 body types are by far not enough (well, I guess there were limitations to the size of a book), it was very instructive to read. The photographs are much more illustrative than the usual drawings in books of this type. I laughed a lot and I learned a lot. I had problems with the american sizes, they seemed to be downsized a bit, measurements (bust, waist, ...) would have been helpful. Plus, I never wear high heels, due to a knee damage, and a lot of other women I know wear flats all the time, too. For me, the style in this book relied a lot on high heels, and some alternatives would have been helpful.
I liked the style, classic, simple and beautiful, and the way how Clinton and Stacy really found the beauty in all their models. It takes a loving eye to do, the loving eye one should have for oneself, and this is maybe the most important lesson in this book.
Not very helpful.......2007-08-29
I was very dissapointed by this book. I was hoping that it would contain tips and tricks to dressing your best and shopping, but it was sectioned off into areas for each body type and the information provided was minimal. Not worth the money. The InStyle and Lucky guides are much better.
Limited in Scope.......2007-08-06
I really wanted to LOVE this book since I am fan of the show, but I must be honest and say that once you find your own body type, the book is pretty useless. There is limited information on style itself (beyond body type) and limited information on where to shop, etc. You'd honestly come out cheaper going to a local bookstore (i.e. BORDERS), grabbing this book, looking up your body type, taking a mental snapshot of the info and putting the book back on the shelf because that's all you'll be able to do with it once you get it home.
I will keep and use as a reference guide for friends and family with OTHER body types, but as a guide to consistently refer to over time, it is very limited. This is more of a BASIC BEGINNER's guide. Don't expect this one to be full of dog-eared pages from consistent use. The Lucky Style manual has MUCH more depth. If you're like me, and you rely on product reviews to help make purchasing decisions, take solace in the fact that I wouldn't steer you wrong.

I can't say enough good things about this book!.......2007-09-24
This book helped me get through a very difficult time a while back. In the time since, I have occasionally felt the anxiety levels creep back up, and I have come back to this book. It isn't one to be read one time, but is worth reading again and again.
It is easy to have this book recommended to you, or even to have someone give it to you and leave it sitting on your shelf. I did that when I first received it. Don't do that! Read it and see if you can grow and glean from it as so many of us have done. It can really help you move beyond worry to trust, and it builts more than just anxiety-free living. It helps accomplish the opposite -- contentment and acceptance of your lot. If you struggle with worry or discontentment, this is the first book I would recommend. I can't say that enough!
Excellent.......2007-09-11
I couldn't imagine Linda writing a book more helpful than Creative Counter part, but this is the proof (for me at least). This book is applicable to the Christian woman no matter what stage of life she is in. I have found it to be encouraging and helpful in my growing relationship with Jesus. Thanks again Linda.
A great book for every woman........2007-09-06
My sister-in-law gave me this book. It's the best gift I've ever been given. I've bought several copies to give to women in my family and friends. The book addresses what peace we can have when we hand our concerns to God and learn to always be content. I wish I'd read this when I was young. It's a book to read several times as a great reminder to hand it all over to God.
Life Changing .......2007-07-14
I am an avid reader and rate this as one of the best books I've read in a long time. It is well written with inspiring stories from Eastern Europe to add illustrate the point of each chapter. More than just a good writer, Linda brings out the major obstacles to spiritual growth and what to do about each one. Since reading the book a few months ago I have seen changes in my life.
Good study........2007-07-12
This book was a good book, helpful. The title was definitely the subject matter, and it's one that is very necessary in our society today. Repetitive in a couple of chapters, but overall I recommend it.

Wheatley works with an unusually broad variety of clients, from Fortune 100 CEOs to ministers, she points out that they all struggle to maintain integrity, humanity, and effectiveness in a relentlessly fast-paced, technology-driven world. Credited with establishing a fundamentally new approach to leadership based on living systems theory — or, as she puts it, "how Life organizes" — Wheatley shares her first-ever compendium of essays about her real-world experiences helping clients introduce more authentic, life-affirming practices into their organizations. Essays cover a wide scope of topics including leadership strategies, raising children in turbulent times, and the role of communities in the lives of organizations. Finding Our Way is filled with a wealth of practical advice on applying the ideas in Wheatley's groundbreaking books and has particular relevance for managers, administrators, and leaders who are trying to run their organizations in more progressive, egalitarian, and effective ways.

Visionary.......2007-05-12
Margaret J Wheatley beautifully weaves the compassion of a wise woman with the insight of a true visionary to deliver a very moving message. The new paradigm of leadership Ms. Wheatley describes embraces all citizens, creates harmony, and compels each member to become their best authentic self. Regardless of your structure: business, family, corporate, or government, your environment will benefit from this philosophy, individually and collectively. I found a shift in my perspective and the tools to take it to the streets. Ms. Wheatleys elegant writing inspires us to be better and do better.
refreshing honesty.......2007-01-31
Some reviewers have called for a "management book" -- that's the last thing we need. What I love about Wheatley is that she goes where no one else goes, and creates a path. For that reason, I use this book with my senior seminar leadership students in an effort to send them out into the world to do the same.
Disappointing.......2006-06-02
I was all set to fall in love with Finding Our Way: Leadership in Uncertain Times by Margaret Wheatley. A friend had recommended Wheatley, and I have spent the last several years researching the interplay between systems thinking, connectionism, quality, leadership and learning. I've been reading Deming, Keynes, Bateson, Prigogine and Karl Polanyi. I had just come out of a three week period of intensive training, leading and facilitating a group of software users in gathering user requirements and system modeling. The book was brand new and available at the library.
Finding Our Way is, unfortunately, a compendium of nebulous generalities. In trying to make the case for self-organizing systems as models for human organization, the "new story" falls short. I can't help but note that mobs, riots and panics are self-organizing.
The ideas may be relevant and Wheatley's descriptions of current conditions seem accurate, but the presentation and writing style make for a rather mushy, second-rate management book. Maybe I've been spoiled by the fabulous work of the writers cited above. I fear the author misses the irony of Thera, her model "nature-based" civilization, being destroyed by a volcano.
I had been hoping for a more specific, detailed, and perhaps case-based book on how to actually lead in the midst of chaos. Perhaps, as other reviewers have indicated, her other books are more serious, and I will certainly take a stab at Leadership and the New Science. Finding Our Way does have this to recommend it: it's so fluffy, one can probably get through it at one sitting.
Good!.......2006-02-06
This book is very impressive because of the writer's attitude towords the world. Good for everybody who read this book!
Alarmingly Inspirational.......2006-01-05
You know those times when you meet someone for the first time yet the experience is like you have known them all your life. This book was like that for me. Much of what I read felt like reacquainting myself with what I already new, but had forgotten, like some life-long fog of amnesia slowly clearing.
Is the book too `touchy-feely' (as some have suggested)? decide for yourself. Frankly, I don't care. All I can say is I applied some of the principles in this book immediately with a team for whom I am responsible. It works. In one meeting (no bull) we turned around two years of pain, suffering and anguish. Is there still work to be done? Sure. Do we know all the answers? Gee, we don't even know what all the questions are. One thing we are sure about, we will find our way through talking, community and shared responsibility. We might even have fun doing it.
Thanks Margaret.
