Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

I liked this product because it gives the words in both languages, written and verbal.
Product Description
In Ultra-Talk, David Kirby poses a simple question: What makes a cultural phenomenon truly great? Exploring a wide variety of "king-sized cultural monuments," Kirby argues that one qualification for greatness is that a phenomenon be embraced by both the elite and the general public. Further, he argues, it must be embraced repeatedly over time.
Kirby turns his critical eye to subjects that have been studied and written about, sought after avidly, discussed passionately, and even resisted vigorously around the world. Auto racing, Dante, folk music, food, Leonardo da Vinci, films, poetry, religion, striptease, television, and the internet are just some of the topics he examines. In Rome, heads of state kneel before Bernini's statue of Saint Teresa in ecstasy, says Kirby, and so do people who can't read. And everyone watches TV.
Ultra-Talk pays homage to the work of two towering writers and critics. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Giacomo Leopardi both stated that a book was valid only if it had been accepted by both an intellectual elite and a vast public. Kirby would have added a second requirement: that the book's--or cultural monument's--popularity must have traction over time. By standing on the shoulders of Goethe and Leopardi, Kirby offers a way to read, see, and savor a post-theoretical worldview that everybody can share.
Customer Reviews:
The pleasure principle.......2007-09-24
Most academic criticism is about as much fun as hemorrhoid surgery, and a lot of journalism about serious intellectual topics is pure froth. David Kirby's book succeeds in being both thoughtful and entertaining, and that's a rare accomplishment. Ultimately the real pleasure here is in tagging along on the wanderings (mental, emotional, geographical) of a very interesting, funny, whip-smart teacher. Among my favorite essays is the one on Whitman, in which Kirby manages to range over some well-covered ground in a very fresh and insightful way. I know Whitman's work well, yet I learned from his treatment. Kirby's been reading Montaigne, and it shows: his essays bob and weave delightfully, offering surprise after substantial surprise.
grandiosity strikes back.......2007-07-08
In the introduction to Ultra-Talk, David Kirby writes, "What I offer in these pages is a way to read, see, and savor, a post-theoretical world view that everybody can share." That is a strong assertion, and though this collection of essays covers diverse and interesting ground, Kirby doesn't quite live up to his goal.
Elsewhere in the introduction, the author defines a set of criteria for what is "good": that which "must not only appeal to both the elite and the public...it must also have a track record." This criteria, presumably, sets the stage for the subject matter he will present in this "book of king-sized cultural monuments." It is true that the variety of subjects does not disappoint; from Walt Whitman to Saint Teresa of Avila to Nascar to the reality show Big Brother, Kirby delights with his surprising turns and associative logic. Despite his efforts to speak across racial and class boundaries, however, Kirby succeeds in speaking directly, and only, to white, middle-class, academically-inclined readers.
Most of these compositions are a compelling blend of personal essay and literary or cultural criticism; they manage to both entertain and inform, which is a difficult task. Each essay reaches farther than the typical personal essay--start with a hook-y personal anecdote, then move outward toward some larger truth about life or human nature--and attempts not only to contemplate big questions, but also to educate readers in the process. I found Kirby's explorations of Dante, Whitman, Shakespeare and Dickinson fascinating. But then again, I read those authors extensively during my academic career. Aside from the sporadic, required high school poetry lessons that many teenagers sleep through, most Americans, arguably, have not. By assuming that his reader is well-versed in classic literature, Kirby excludes much of his potential audience.
My point is that Kirby perhaps shoots himself in the foot with the grandiose definition his book presents in the introduction. It's not that this collection of essays is bad. I, as a white, middle-class, academically-inclined person, very much enjoyed Kirby's whimsical yet didactic tone and unique perspective on popular culture. The essay "Why Does It Always Have to Be a Boy Baby" was particularly well-crafted in its refusal both to endorse and to criticize religion, opting instead to examine the intrinsic role religion plays in every person's life, whether or not s/he is a willing participant.
Kirby, a poet and literature professor, is skilled at making intellectual subject matter interesting and accessible. I simply wonder: is his "post-theoretical world view" really one "that everybody can share?"

Book Description
One of the great innovators of medieval literature, Dafydd ap Gwilym's poetic voice is as distinctive and resonant as those of his more celebrated contempories Chaucer and Boccaccio. This book - the first major study of the largely submerged popular verse tradition of medieval Wales and its likely enriching effect on the repertoire of the professional poets - examines Dafydd's use both of the native popular verse tradition and of the persuasive convention of northern French verse to forge a new kind of poetry for a new age. Composing in the wake of the Edwardian conquest of Wales, Dafyydd (fl. c. 1330-70) and a few kindred spirits sought to adapt and revitalize an already sophisticated bardic culture by expanding its subject matter to include a surprising variety of entertainment as well as formal praise. Huw M. Edwards sets out the first detailed comparison of Dafydd's verse with the highly influential poetry of northern France, in terms of themes, motifs and poetic genres since the publication of the authentic cannon in 1952. The poet's bold and often playful handling of borrowed conventions will be of interest to all students of medieval poetry.

Customer Reviews:
A first introduction.......2006-10-15
Some translations into the French are clumsy, without being incorrect.
Also, while most of the time there are literal translations, other times the songs are not translations at all, but something else which sounds better. I think the authors should have made a choice and stuck with it, instead of going back and forth between literal translations (allowing non-French speaking parents to see what means what) and "better arrangements", where the vocabulary will not match at all.
This is still overall very nice because it gives kids the desire to continue learning the language. It may also help build that first "confidence".
I like the second one "more French" as much, but I found the third one "even more French" less engaging than the first two CDs.
Not something I would buy.......2006-03-21
We borrowed this CD from the library and it was just ok. The songs were familiar, but it moved so fast that my kids just made up french sounding words and didn't learn a thing. It would be great for kids who have learned some french already, but I wouldn't recomend it as a learning tool.
A terrible learning tool.......2005-02-08
The adult singers on this CD are not native speakers of French, and have very heavy American accents. As noted in other reviews, the songs aren't translated literally - in the case of "twinkle twinkle little star," the English translation bears very little resemblance to what the French says. The children singers are very difficult to hear; I think they're native speakers, but the non-native adults sing loudly over them so your child doesn't get any benefit from them.
If you wan to learn bad French, this is the CD for you.
Ok to listen to but not a very good french tutorial........2002-05-13
Some of the songs are useful, but most do not translate literally which could be a problem if you are trying to learn French. (for example in France apparently you come from Alabama with banjo under your arm). Another song is completely different wording, just sung to the same tune as Twinkle twinkle little star. The book that comes with the tape does tell you that is is different but has no literal translation.
My thought was to play the tape during long car trips with my kids (6 and 3). They don't complain but most of the songs are hard to understand, Especially the songs sung by children. They most certainly haven't learned much French as a result of listening to the tape. A couple of the songs are fun/catchy, one in particular is stuck in my head and I wish it would go away, but all in all I was disappointed.
Teach Me French is an Awesome Learning Tool.......2000-06-11
I have found, Teach Me French, a Musical Journey Through the Day to be an awesome learning tool because the tape includes songs about the alphabet and the numbers. A lyric book is also enclosed with the English and French words of each song. I have found Teach Me French especially helpful because familiar songs such as "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," and "The More We Get Together" are sung in French and English. This cassette and book is great for homes, but also great for schools where students can make their first contact with the French language a positive one.

Not a Good Language Learning Tool.......2006-11-28
As a Spanish teacher I consider songs an essential part of language learning. However, I won't be using this CD book set with my students. The songs are rather tedious and overall poor in composition. The lyrics are too long for children and have too much vocabulary for language learners. The songs are just not fun to listen to. Spend your money elsewhere.

I'm finally trying to teach my 23 months old son Spanish and I just got this tape to help me with the task. I personally enjoyed it very much from the first moment I listened to it. Songs are catchy and they are repetitive enough so that are easy to remember later on. Maybe 1 or 2 of them are too fast for beginners but the rest are slow enough for you to repeat the words alongside. The vocabulary is useful and up to date, the singing is good and even I -as a spaniard- am pleased with the artist's spanish pronunciation, which is not the case with other products in the market.
Overall is great for people that has a degree of exposure to either English or Spanish. It will be tough at first for beginners but with repetition they will eventually learn an incredible amount of words and expressions in both languages.

What a Find!.......2006-02-19
I bought the CD version of this in a local bookstore. I just took a chance on it, because I hadn't read any reviews or heard anything about this CD before. I was pleasantly surprised!
My daughter (age 5) and I (age much greater than 5) listen to this CD often, and have both learned a lot of words (and grammar) from it. It's really creative how they've combined English and Spanish into the same songs. During the course of the songs, they switch between English/Spanish and Spanish/English, so this CD would be useful and enjoyable both for English speakers learning Spanish as well as for Spanish speakers learning English.
Don't be fooled by the cartoon-like packaging. The songs are very well written and performed. They do make rare references to "Dolly" and "Billy" (the "Family Circus" characters) at the beginning of some songs, but it doesn't detract from the quality of the songs.
We've found that the tunes are quite catchy. This CD was an encouragement to me that I could learn Spanish, and after picking up quite a bit from these songs, I've started studying Spanish more intently (via some audio courses). A booklet containing the lyrics is included with the CD version (and maybe the tape version too?), which is helpful for studying/understanding the lyrics.
I rarely write Amazon.com reviews, but I was surprised that there were no reviews for this item yet, and felt that it really deserves a good word.
My only regret is that this is not the first in a series of CD's! It would be a really fun way to learn even more Spanish.

Fabulous! Fun!.......2007-06-27
I have purchased this cd more than ten times! Before you know it, you are singing the songs in spanish. It's great! I like this program because it is musical. Studies have shown that your retention rate is about 85% better with music. You sing the songs in English THEN sing them in Spanish.
Children learn better by experiencing a subject. This program allows them to experience Spanish in a fun and upbeat method. I love it.
I enjoy Teach Me More Spanish more than Teach Me Spanish. The songs are more fun and upbeat. Old McDonald Had a Farm in Spanish is an absolute hoot! You will laugh and sing with your kiddos enjoying every minute!
Ok for a basic intro.......2007-06-27
This is by no means a Spanish program but it is a nice way to introduce young kids to a foreign language. The first time I turned on the CD my 4yr and 2.5yr were mimicking some of the sounds they were hearing (without much though since they were playing). Since we are not a bilingual family, I feel that this is a nice way to bring in a cultural awareness and give my kids that early exposure to languages.
I do feel that the CD was rather short (not as long as most of my kids cds) and there was no "On CD" translation for the spoken phrases (you have to refer to the book - which I probably won't do unless my kids decide at some point to ask what it all means).
I may buy a couple other CDs from this company (like the Christmas one) but will definitely continue shopping for a more all in compassing program. For the price I paid on Amazon I'm fairly pleased with my purchase but am glad that I did not pay full price on the Teach Me site, there is just not enough content.
