5 out of 5 stars Destined to be a classic.......2007-09-23

I belong to a local reading council made up of several teachers and librarians and one of the service projects that we participate in involves giving a book to all newborn babies in our community, along with some literature about how important it is to read to your child. When it came time to choose a book for this project Mem Fox's "Time for Bed" was our choice. The words are a perfect bedtime lullaby and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful! I think this story is destined to be a classic bedtime story and I hope it is read for generations to come!

Sweet and loving, gentle and soothing, beautifully illustrated ! A favorite of my 6 children as they were growing up and now enjoyed by my grandchildren. Highly recommended !

5 out of 5 stars Twelve years reading this and its still a favorite childrens book.......2007-08-13

I have been reading this book to my grandbabies for the past twelve years....and as each one hears it for the first time, it instantly becomes one of their favorites. Timeless.

5 out of 5 stars Our first choice for a bedtime book.......2007-07-16

My son was 14 months old when he gave up his bottles before bedtime. As an alternative to the bottle, he chose this book. He responded to the rhythm of the poetry and was charmed by the little baby on the last page. He is always happy to see her, and seems inspired by her to curl up in his own bed and go to sleep too.

We would highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars A good good-night book.......2007-06-08

Mem Fox's beautiful, simple, gentle text frames the detailed and appealing illustrations. Young children will love the different baby animals with their mothers, all being coaxed to sleep at the end of the day. A sweet sharing of a familiar, comforting routine.

My little boy just loves this book! He gets especially excited when he knows that I'm about to read the "jamma... jamma..." lines, and always claps right afterward. This book is just awesome.

5 out of 5 stars i love this book.......2007-09-13

My sister-in-law gave me this book when I had my son. I love it because it's so fun to read and it's catchy. I looked up more of Sandra Boynton's books after I read it.

4 out of 5 stars Love the story, but cover is easily destroyed.......2007-08-09

I've been reading this to my now 14-month old for several months as a bedtime story--now, when he's ready to go to bed, he brings me this book! It makes him laugh and I haven't gotten tired of it even after all these months. While of course babies are going to bend the covers of any book, the Boynton books with cutouts (particularly this one) suffer the worst; the cover is about to rip in two. I wish they had just made this with a solid cover and then I would give it 5 stars. Fortunately, it's cheap enough that I'll just buy another copy when this one is worn out.

5 out of 5 stars I read it at bedtime every night to my 2 year old.......2007-07-05

I just got this book a couple weeks ago because my 2 year old daughter was tired of Sweet Dreams Mimi and i needed a new nighttime book to throw into the mix. I know the excited tone i read this book in has helped make it her favorite but the words are very catchy. There is only one word it the book i don't like at that is refers to one pair of pajamas as the Ugliest you've ever seen, i replace that word with Silliest as i see no need for my 2 year old to label things as ugly. So we read Pajama time, The going to bed book, Goodnight moon and she falls asleep

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Bed Time Book.......2007-05-28

This book is fabulous for bedtime. My active toddler has a hard time winding down for bed, but when we read her this book she has an easier time at bedtime. The illustrations are hilarious and the rhymes are great. I even enjoy reading my children this book. Its really fun if you enjoy "getting into" the rhythm of the language. Sandra Boynton books are the BEST.

Book Description

"What's for dinner?"

If the sound of those three words sends you reeling or, worse, straight to the nearest fast-food chain or take-out joint, then relax. Dream Dinners will change all that forever.

With their new cookbook, Stephanie Allen and Tina Kuna, founders of Dream Dinners, bring the successful philosophy behind their hundreds of assemble-and-freeze-meal stores across America into home kitchens. Dream Dinners offers up one hundred recipes for flavorful meals made with easy-to-find ingredients.

The premise is simple: Scoop or pour ingredients into baking pans or plastic bags, then store the uncooked dishes in the freezer. Later in the week or month, when dinnertime rolls around, just pop one of the frozen meals into the oven. Each recipe is provided two ways: One, prepare just one meal for the night, or two, prepare enough for three meals and freeze the other two. Dinner after sports practice, music lessons, and play rehearsals has never been easier!

In addition to recipes for hearty, family-pleasing classics such as Baked Pesto Ravioli with Chicken, Beef and Zucchini Casserole, and Cider-Braised Pork Loin Chops, Stephanie and Tina give a wealth of time-saving shopping tips and cooking pointers. More than for convenience, eating dinner together provides benefits for the whole family. Study after study shows that mealtime matters. Families who dine together form stronger bonds, and kids get better grades and develop lifelong healthful eating habits. Dream Dinners makes it easy for families to gather around the dinner table and share the ups and downs of the day.

With Dream Dinners, you will spend less time stressing in the kitchen and more time connecting with family and friends.

1 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected.......2007-09-27

I purchased this cookbook hoping it would have some of their wonderful recipes offered at any Dream Dinner location. I was sadly mistaken. These recipes seem to be old family favorites, and not the delicious meals created by the expert Chef's at Dream Dinners. I did however, find 5-10 recipes that I will try. You've probably seen most of the recipes in here, only they put their own little twist on it. Overall, its not a horrible cookbook, just not what I expected.

4 out of 5 stars Good, could be better.......2007-08-25

I overall like the book. I thought it could have been better. It seems they are trying to come off as more gourmet, not as family friendly. But it has a well-deserved spot on my shelf.

1 out of 5 stars I just wasted a lot of money..........2007-08-17

I am pretty upset. I just ordered a brand new cookbook, followed the recipe for a triple batch of the artichoke chicken casserole (which was about $50 worth of supplies. I knew better...I knew there was no way that 1 1/2 cups of uncooked rice would be able to reconstitute with the amount of liquid in the sauce. But, I trusted the book. What a disaster. I am about to call Papa John's. Here is the corrected cookbook (sorry, I didn't think to check for corrections since I just bought the book).

Woops, there are 45 PAGES OF CORRECTIONS!!!! Seriously? How did this book make it through to publishing? Whoever edited it should be fired. If you go to the dream dinners website there is a link with all of the corrections.

5 out of 5 stars A Working Mom's Best Friend.......2007-06-24

Dinner preparation has never been faster nor easier than it became after I purchased this cookbook. I'm able to have dinner on the table in minutes, and they are healthful -- no weird preservatives or artificial junk that my family doesn't need to eat.

Here's what I do: I use a grocery delivery service. When I place my order online, I have my Dream Dinners cookbook in front of me. Based on what meats are on sale, I choose a beef, a pork and a chicken recipe (sometimes I substitute a pasta, turkey or other meal). I then add the ingredients I will need to make 3 of each recipe. It's usually just another $60 or so on my order. When the order arrives, I take two hours or so to put all of my dinners together. At the end, I have about 12 dinners to stack and freeze in my freezer. TWO HOURS to make 12 dinners -- miraculous!

Some of my family's favorites -- Pork Tenderloin with Pears, New England Pot Roast. Happy assemble-and-freezing!

4 out of 5 stars Bravo! A Great Resource.......2007-03-29

Busy mothers, rejoice. Dinner is served - or almost, anyway. Using the innovative assemble-and-freeze method developed by the founders of the Dream Dinners stores around the country, even the busiest of cooks can learn how to pour ingredients into plastic bags and freeze them, then cook as needed. Whether for breakfast, dinner, parties or dessert, just a few hours in the kitchen will yield weeks of hassle-free meals.

I would have liked to see more photos and graphics (they're always appreciated with cookbooks), but still, this is a fantastic resource. Bravo!

If you liked the eerie whimsy of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, Steven Millhauser's Little Kingdoms, or Jorge Luis Borges's Labyrinths, you will love Alan Lightman's ethereal yet down-to-earth book Einstein's Dreams. Lightman teaches physics and writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, helping bridge the light-year-size gap between science and the humanities, the enemy camps C.P. Snow famously called The Two Cultures.

Einstein's Dreams became a bestseller by delighting both scientists and humanists. It is technically a novel. Lightman uses simple, lyrical, and literal details to locate Einstein precisely in a place and time--Berne, Switzerland, spring 1905, when he was a patent clerk privately working on his bizarre, unheard-of theory of relativity. The town he perceives is vividly described, but the waking Einstein is a bit player in this drama.

The book takes flight when Einstein takes to his bed and we share his dreams, 30 little fables about places where time behaves quite differently. In one world, time is circular; in another a man is occasionally plucked from the present and deposited in the past: "He is agonized. For if he makes the slightest alteration in anything, he may destroy the future ... he is forced to witness events without being part of them ... an inert gas, a ghost ... an exile of time." The dreams in which time flows backward are far more sophisticated than the time-tripping scenes in Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, though science-fiction fans may yearn for a sustained yarn, which Lightman declines to provide. His purpose is simply to study the different kinds of time in Einstein's mind, each with its own lucid consequences. In their tone and quiet logic, Lightman's fables come off like Bach variations played on an exquisite harpsichord. People live for one day or eternity, and they respond intelligibly to each unique set of circumstances. Raindrops hang in the air in a place of frozen time; in another place everyone knows one year in advance exactly when the world will end, and acts accordingly.

"Consider a world in which cause and effect are erratic," writes Lightman. "Scientists turn reckless and mutter like gamblers who cannot stop betting.... In this world, artists are joyous." In another dream, time slows with altitude, causing rich folks to build stilt homes on mountaintops, seeking eternal youth and scorning the swiftly aging poor folk below. Forgetting eventually how they got there and why they subsist on "all but the most gossamer food," the higher-ups at length "become thin like the air, bony, old before their time."

There is no plot in this small volume--it's more like a poetry collection than a novel. Like Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, it's a mind-stretching meditation by a scientist who's been to the far edge of physics and is back with wilder tales than Marco Polo's. And unlike many admirers of Hawking, readers of Einstein's Dreams have a high probability of actually finishing it.

Book Description

A modern classic, Einstein’s Dreams is a fictional collage of stories dreamed by Albert Einstein in 1905, when he worked in a patent office in Switzerland. As the defiant but sensitive young genius is creating his theory of relativity, a new conception of time, he imagines many possible worlds. In one, time is circular, so that people are fated to repeat triumphs and failures over and over. In another, there is a place where time stands still, visited by lovers and parents clinging to their children. In another, time is a nightingale, sometimes trapped by a bell jar.

Now translated into thirty languages, Einstein’s Dreams has inspired playwrights, dancers, musicians, and painters all over the world. In poetic vignettes, it explores the connections between science and art, the process of creativity, and ultimately the fragility of human existence.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An unexpected gem.......2007-08-27

One of my very favorite books, read in a single night at Christmas. It's that sort of book - small enough to read all at once, but broken into little vignettes one could treasure night after night. Each vignette, loosely bound together with a wraparound plot featuring Albert Einstein, depicts a different reality from our own, where time functions differently. In one, time runs backward; in another, time is a literal location you can walk toward or away from. Another reality holds people without long-term memory, and everyone's past is written down in books. How similar or alien these worlds are to our own lie mostly in the mind of the reader...and that's half the beauty of it. The prose is simple and tight, but the ideas are absolutely breathtaking. If you want a nice quiet read on a summer's day, or a near-Christmas night, I couldn't recommend this enough.

4 out of 5 stars A unique philosophical examination of the human condition!.......2007-06-29

At first blush, for the briefest of moments, one might be excused for thinking that "Einstein's Dreams" was science fiction or perhaps even physics! But, in fact, Alan Lightman has treated us to an enchanting metaphysical flight of fancy loosely based on that most counterintuitive of ideas that Einstein shared with the world in his General Theory of Relativity - the idea that time is an integral part of the structure of the universe but that it is flexible, ever-changing and dependent on the frame of reference of the observer.

"Einstein's Dreams" is a collage of short, lucid essays that Lightman puts forward as the nocturnal dreamscapes in which a sensitive Einstein might have wandered as his intense genius created his famous theories. Worlds in which time stands still, runs backward, runs at varying speeds dependent on your location, passes in a circular ever-repeating pattern, or runs in a discontinuous pattern of starts and stops, for example, are the setting for a metaphorical examination of humanity's responses to these changing notions of time.

Lightman's elegant narrative prose, near poetry in its simple style and elegance, explores the human condition and demonstrates that such notions as love and hate, motivation or despair, joy or despondency and creativity are implicity dependent on our unstated understanding of the passage of time.

"Einstein's Dreams" is a short read that will occupy littler more than an hour or two to complete but it is thought-provoking, fascinating and quite compelling despite its appealing brevity and simplicity.

3 out of 5 stars Simple, yet entertaining........2007-05-20

First if all, these stories are NOT written by Einstein himself. They are a series of (very) short stories written as if by the great scientist himself, based on his actual writings and memoirs. They are actually written by the author, Alan Lightman.

Some of the stories are very though-provoking and fun, while others are extremely boring. Although, luckily, the slow ones are over with quickly, because none of the stories is longer than a few pages (roughly).

I got through this entire book in about 30 minutes. I would suggest it for a coffee table or bathroom... or, if you're a writer and want to be led in new directions, his book, while simple, is definitely unique!

4 out of 5 stars Very interesting but.........2007-05-11

This brief novel should have a true 5 stars rating if you look only at its content.
The series of dreams Lightman imagine could have haunted Einstein's night during the last rush toward the formulation of Special Relativity are very interesting and suggestive: a true, extensive review of worlds ruled out by different conceptions of time.

I must say that here and there I have been quite bored by Lightman's style. A most recurrent stylistic module throughout the book is to line up many very synthetic icons (e.g.: "A boy is playing with his ball. A woman stands by the balcony looking at the sky. An old man is walking down the street", and so on). I know it is a peculiar feature of the American narrative style, which has been mimicked by some (so-called "neorealists") Italian writers, nevertheless I found it a bit annoying.

Well, I am Italian, so my mother tongue is one of Latin's children and inherited Latin's complex morphology and syntax: so we are used to long, complex phrases which allows a good writer to achieve a fluent style.
On the other hand, an eloquent writer like Henry Rider Haggard sometimes produces long, complex phrases, which are quite difficult to understand: phrases at the edge of English language's expressive possibilities. So I like best a "medium" style, when I read in English, an "aurea mediocritas" without any extremisms.

But Lightman is really a good, refined writer. I must say that Lightman's style has often a great lightness (nomina sunt consequentia rerum), the terseness of a crystal. And sometimes, unexpectedly, with one sudden wing beat, Lightman's writing reaches the highest poetry. These are the magical moments of the novel, often at the end of the chapters - or I should say at the end of the dreams.

I would like to add a last note, a historical flaw I found (see page 77). Lightman says that Einstein has something like "a vision of galaxies". In 1905 almost no scientists (much less astronomers) knew of galaxies: they talked of "nebulae" and the most renowned theory for those objects was that of the protostars. In 1755 Kant expressed his own belief and reasoning on this subject, talking of "island universes" similar to the Milky Way, but his opinion was not so influential.
The Great Debate between Harlow Shapley (protostar theory) and Heber Curtis (island universes) dates to 1920; only in 1923 Hubble proved that the strange nebulae were true galaxies.

2 out of 5 stars Lightman's dreams not necessarily Einstein's.......2007-03-17

Imaginative but also silly and annoying at times.

The title is designed to cash in on the famous Einstein name.

The best parts were when Einstein was ''directly'' alluded to.

Book Description

Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu has long been admired throughout the world for the heroism and grace he exhibited while encouraging countless South Africans in their struggle for human rights. In God Has a Dream, his most soul-searching book, he shares the spiritual message that guided him through those troubled times. Drawing on personal and historical examples, Archbishop Tutu reaches out to readers of all religious backgrounds, showing how individual and global suffering can be transformed into joy and redemption. With his characteristic humor, Tutu offers an extremely personal and liberating message. He helps us to “see with the eyes of the heart” and to cultivate the qualities of love, forgiveness, humility, generosity, and courage that we need to change ourselves and our world.

Echoing the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., he writes, “God says to you, ‘I have a dream. Please help me to realize it. It is a dream of a world whose ugliness and squalor and poverty, its war and hostility, its greed and harsh competitiveness, its alienation and disharmony are changed into their glorious counterparts. When there will be more laughter, joy, and peace, where there will be justice and goodness and compassion and love and caring and sharing. I have a dream that my children will know that they are members of one family, the human family, God’s family, my family.’”

Addressing the timeless and universal concerns all people share, God Has a Dream envisions a world transformed through hope and compassion, humility and kindness, understanding and forgiveness.

5 out of 5 stars Love, Charity and Devotion to Jesus Christ.......2007-09-14

What an eloquent writer! Bishop Tutu writes so beautifully, especially when he describes the Love of God. The concept of transfiguration is explained in a passage about the cross which truly brought me closer to my Lord. Dear Christian brothers and sisters: read this book and be prepared to have your prejudices and fears about other people shattered by the Love of God.

A mother tiger wants her baby to go to sleep, but the little tiger resists. "'If I close my eyes,' he said, 'I can't see the sky.'" She assures him that he will not only see the sky when he sleeps, but will float among clouds and be cradled by the moon. Not in the least assured, the little tiger complains that if he closes his eyes, he will miss seeing the tree and the bird with blue feathers. With each concern, his mother consoles him with a comforting thought. If this gentle give-and-take were not calming enough for a bedtime story, Hallensleben's lovely dreamscapes (And If the Moon Could Talk) will surely do the trick. Double-page paintings of cloud animal shapes (with the little tiger cozying up with the moon), the "big mountains where the rain lives," and of mother tiger licking her baby are utterly hypnotic. Young children who are afraid to go to sleep will learn that "Dark is just the other side of light. It's what comes before dreams" and that mom is never very far away. (Ages 3 to 6) --Karin Snelson

Book Description

A little tiger takes an imaginative journey

The little tiger lay on his back in the tall grass.
"Close your eyes, little tiger," said his mother, "and go to sleep."

But the little tiger is worried about what sleep might bring.
His mother reassures him that once he closes his eyes, he will dream of magical places. And when he awakens, she will be right there, waiting for him.

Alternating between real-life scenes with the baby tiger and his mother and enchanted dream scenes of sleep's possibilities, Kate Banks's simple, comforting text and Georg Hallensleben's bright, colorful illustrations make this a charming bedtime story for small children.

5 out of 5 stars Great Illustration.......2007-08-22

I first discovered this book at the library. I liked it so much that I've checked it out multiple times and have now purchased it.

Kate Banks' writing is a parent telling a story to a child. The words are soothing, but become more poetic with each reading.
Georg Hallenleben's art fills the page and takes you into the imagination of the writer.

I am a new mom and have received lots of books as gifts. I buy books used or on clearance as I see them. This is the first book I have purchased for my son at full price - I love it and would recommend as my top choice to anyone. I like it for naps.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful bedtime story...........2007-07-04

This book is one of my daughter's favorite bedtimes stories and mine. The little tiger is adorable and I love how all the illustrations complement the storyline. I absolutely LOVE this book and recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars Purrfect for putting your little one(s) to sleep!.......2007-03-09

The beautiful illustrations and words of comfort help our two children, ages 2 and 4, at bedtime. The baby tiger expresses his fears of bedtime while mommy tiger provides words to calm and soothe.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Wonderful.......2006-05-31

The writer and illustrator of "The Cat Who Walked Across France" team up again in another simple yet totally winning story. This time, our protagonist is a baby tiger--so innocent looking that he resembles a cuddly soft toy--who just can't go to sleep. With the enormous curiosity of any infant, this little tiger doesn't want to close his eyes and miss the sky, the trees, abright blue bird--all the wonderful, wondrous things around him.

In time-honored style, his wise mother counters all his objections with a parallel in his "mind's eye." In fact, she suggests that closing your eyes can bring you an even more varied and rewarding experience:

"The little tiger rolled onto his belly and listened to the leaves quiver overhead. 'If I close my eyes, I can't see the tree.' he said. 'But you can, said his mother. 'You can see many trees, where you can play hide-and-seek until the night finds you and brings you home."

This book was just made for quietly reading to your child as he or she gets into bed! ALong with the quieting possibilities offered in the book's beginning, Kate Banks also soothes the "what ifs." WHen the tiger imagines he's a bird, he suddenly acquires a fear of falling. The mother, who may have read some kids' books herself, answers "I will be there to catch you." IF he gets lost, "then I will find you." Banks knows no fear herself, she even tackles the dark: "'Don't be scared,' said his mother. 'Dark is just the other side of light. It's what comes before dreams.'" (Awwwww...) The sleepy tigers imagines what he might dream of, and illustrator Hallensleben shows us a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains shaded blue and purple, sand dunes with purple-topped palms, and a giant orange fish jumping out of a deep blue sea, a seagull, an orange-billed penguin-ish bird, and the tiger dancing merrily on its back.

Hallensleben draws his typically rich oil colors here, and brush strokes and saturated, unusual color schemes (there's a bit of the Fauve here) are almost too visually exciting for a bedtime book. Still, a darkened room will dampen the colors, and Banks' ever-present, always reassuring mother tiger will undoubtedly work as well with your young audience as it did with her tiger cub.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!.......2005-07-18

This is a beautiful book about going to bed and having wonderful dreams! The story is simple for toddlers to understand and the illustrations are impressive. It really shows young kids' imaginations and that "mama tiger" is always there for her baby.

Book Description

Get in on Christy’s Senior Year

The last three books, collected in one page-turning volume, conclude the bestselling Christy Miller series with hope and promise! At the start of her senior year, Christy looks forward to growing closer to Todd, but her friendship with Katie is on the rocks, threatening the year she was certain would be a time to cherish. With Sweet Dreams comes the start of a romantic summer. She’d be entirely swept off her feet if it wasn’t for the most difficult decision she’s ever had to make. And in A Promise Is Forever, Christy discovers foreign adventure is just her cup of tea. Follow Christy Miller as she stays true to her identity in Christ, drawing closer to God for help in realizing her dreams and dealing with her disappointments.

Whether you’re meeting her for the first time or have known her for years—

Christy Is a Forever Friend

A Time to Cherish

For Labor Day weekend, Christy Miller is on a houseboat at Lake Shasta. What could be better? She’s about to find out! Before they know it, both Christy and her best friend, Katie, are receiving some unexpected male attention. But somehow these best friends are at odds just when they should be having the most fun together. Christy soon realizes that sometimes you have to stand back and let people make their own decisions, even when they’re headed for a fall. And although life is never perfect, this is definitely a time to cherish.

Sweet Dreams

Christy Miller’s senior year is delicious, especially the time she spends with Todd. But her best friend, Katie, is struggling—she’s realized she needs to break up with Michael. It’s not easy! Fortunately both Doug and Disneyland help Katie to cheer up. Christy is learning to let go and get out of the way so that her friends can become who they’re meant to be...even when it jeopardizes her own sweet dreams.

A Promise Is Forever

Christy Miller’s going to Europe! It’s a three-week missions trip with Doug, Katie, and Tracy. First stop: London for some sightseeing, and then a castle in the English countryside for group training. Christy is so excited to be headed for Belfast with her friends—despite some tension among them. But when plans go topsy-turvy at the last minute, Christy must face her fears and realize that some things are more important than her own comfort...and that even when she can’t foresee the end result, a promise truly is forever.

Story Behind the Book

“The Christy Miller series was actually born when a group of thirteen-year-olds challenged me to write a novel. I’d been questioning the content of their favorite books when they said, ‘Why don’t you write a book for us?’ I told them no, I only wrote picture books. But they persisted: ‘How hard could it be? We’ll even tell you what to write! We want a love story with teenagers at the beach.’ And there you go. Summer Promise first released seventeen years ago and is now translated into five languages. I continue to hear from readers all over the world, many girls saying that they gave their life to Christ after reading Summer Promise . I love that!” —Robin Jones Gunn

My 19 year old daughter loves these series. She's been reading them since she was 10 years old and still thoroughly enjoys them.

5 out of 5 stars The Christy Miller novel that fans have been waiting for.......2007-06-27

Christy Miller has been waiting years for longtime love interest Todd to make a commitment. In A TIME TO CHERISH, the 10th installment in Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series, Christy and her friends set off on a summer adventure onboard a houseboat, which just might help the on-again off-again couple take the next step in their relationship.

Sure enough, the romantic scenery and lots of pushing from Christy's overbearing Aunt Marti do the trick, and Christy and Todd finally declare themselves a couple. Naturally, Christy could not be more excited. As she revels in the joy of being able to call Todd her boyfriend, plans for the future go into overdrive. While Aunt Marti begins thinking ahead to college degrees and their wedding, Christy attempts to simply slow down and enjoy the moment.

However, even this proves to be tough, as best friends Katie and Doug do not necessarily share in her enthusiasm. Doug has had a crush on Christy for years, so her relationship with Todd has put an end to his hopes. And while Katie is happy for the new couple, it only reminds her that she is still missing a significant other in her life. Determined for Katie to be just as happy as she is, Christy begins a series of disastrous attempts to set her up with Doug.

As it turns out, though, Katie might not need Christy's help at all. When they return to school for their senior year, Katie immediately becomes infatuated with an intriguing exchange student from Europe, and he is certainly returning her attention. Christy tries to warn Katie that the relationship might be dangerous, but Katie refuses to listen to her and their friendship reaches a breaking point. Is Christy just jealous, or is Katie really heading for trouble?

A TIME TO CHERISH is the Christy Miller novel that fans have been waiting for. After nine books filled with "will they or won't they" drama, Christy and Todd finally decide to make it official and begin dating. Avid readers of the series no doubt will be relieved to see the long, drawn-out drama come to an end. The book also manages to deal with complicated relationships between family, friends and significant others in a realistic and positive way. At the same time, Gunn leaves A TIME TO CHERISH with an open ending that certainly will have readers eager for more adventures with Christy Miller.

5 out of 5 stars Best volume yet!.......2007-03-28

This is my favorite volume of the young Christy Miller books. I cried over the last two so much. I love when Christy and Todd are together, they're so perfect for each other! I've read all of the Christy books, and all of them made me want a hero like Todd.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-03-25

No two ways about it, I love these books, and having a three-in-one version makes it all the better. This book contains the concluding volumes in the Christy Miller series, and it's interesting to see how she's progressed from Summer Promise.

In a Time to Cherish, Christy's relationship with Todd couldn't be better as they offically define that they're boyfriend-girlfriend. However, Christy's relationship with her best friend, Katie, on the the other hand, isn't going so well when Katie, desperate for a boyfriend and feeling left out, begins dating Michael, a non-Christian. This story was enthralling, and included some very sweet moments between Christy and Todd. It really inspired me to 'hold out for that hero.'

In Sweet Dreams, after Katie's painful break-up with Michael comes slow healing, and Christy's beginning to think that everything is good again. However, she has no idea that she'll soon be faced with one of the hardest decisions she's ever had to face. I cried at the ending of this book, yet it hit me hard, making me wonder if I could make the same sacrifice as Christy did.

A Promise is Forever would have to be one of my favorite books in the whole series. A large period of time has elapsed since Sweet Dreams, and we find Christy traveling to England for a mission's trip with Doug who's her new boyfriend, Tracy, and Katie. She expects the trip to be a good way to serve God, but she doesn't anticipate any of the speed bumps along the way, such as conlict in her group and trouble with Doug, but most of all, being sent to Spain to serve, away from the rest of her friends. This book will have you in tears at it's touching ending. A fun thing was that we're introduced to Sierra Jensen, Robin Jones Gunn's next book series. Having read the Sierra Jensen books already, it was interesting to see Sierra from Christy's point of view.

Check these books out!

I love this series. Robin Jones Gunn fills each book with drama, adventure, romance, and mystery. Every time I get one of Gunn's books, I can't put it down. I would definitely reccomend this book and all her other books to any teen girl.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2007-07-25

This book shows that bad dreams may be scary but there is a reason behind them.

3 out of 5 stars Good if you like the Berenstain Bears.......2007-01-26

I was looking for a book about bad dreams, and since the kids like the BB, this seemed like a lock. And in general, it is good, but it takes FOREVER to get to the actual bad dream part! The majority of the book is setting up all the things the cubs did all day which then precipitated the bad dreams. Then only about 4 pages are spent dealing with the actual dream. So that was a bit disappointing, but it is still entertaining and you can certainly use it as a jumping-off point to discuss bad dreams. (It is based on a TV episode that we've seen since.)

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2005-12-15

The world lost a real gem of a writer when Stan Berenstain passed on November 29. Together, Berenstain and his wife, Jan, and eventually their two sons, created books featuring lovable but flawed characters who tackle just about every real issue that faces families.

All kids will experience their first nightmare at some point, hopefully later than sooner. This book is a great way to open up a dialogue with a kid who has had a nightmare. Like all of the Berenstain Bears books, it's not intended to provide a child with coping skills, but rather to help open up a line of conversation wherein the parent can help the child directly. It's simply a fable, an outline, a conversation starter. And it's a wonderful one.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Dreams Begone...With Help from the Bear Family!.......2005-10-05

I loved this book, because it is a wonderful "bad dream banisher" for children of any age. Brother and Sister Bear are so much like normal, you-and-me kids that any child will understand where they're coming from. This book has helped all of the children in my family deal with nightmares...Definately a must-have for any Bear Family fans!

4 out of 5 stars Simple, Soft, Explanation of Nightmares for Young Children.......2003-10-24

Both "Brother" and "Sister" Bear have bad dreams after they play with some toy monsters, and "Brother" sees a movie about them. "Mama Bear" and "Papa Bear" comfort them when they each have bad dreams that night:

"But it was so real!" she said, calming down a bit.
"That's how it is with dreams," he [Papa] said. "It's as if they're really happening, but they're not-they're just in your mind."

After Sister explains the dream, Mama explains that the mind keeps thinking during sleep, but in a nonsensical way, and that a dream "takes all the things you were thinking or were nervous about during the day and puts them together all jumbled like a mixed-up jigsaw puzzle." Mama validates that the dream is scary but also points out how it was interesting.

This may or may not help a child experiencing his/her first nightmares. It's might be useful as an initial explanation, but it doesn't (nor does it intend to) offer much more insight or coping strategies than those mentioned above. As usual, the drawings are fairly bland and unimaginative, but will be familiar to the Berenstain Bear fan.

Late one night, Wilbur hears a tapping at his window. There, standing in the yard outside his window, is a baby apatosaur. Knowing that the dinosaur can't stay, Wilbur begins the long journey back through time to take him home.

Bravely facing a fierce saber-toothed cat and narrowly escaping a monstrous Tyrannosaurus rex, the two new friends trudge through the Ice Age and past the Cretaceous period, finally arriving at the Jurassic period. Once his long-necked friend is safely home, Wilbur makes the journey forward to his own time atop the largest, most spectacular dinosaur he's ever seen.

An adventurous tale indeed! Most Boys and girls will love the story of a young boy who wakes up to a real baby dinosaur at his bedroom window. The subsequent journey back through time to return the little guy to his parents is not lacking in excitement at all. They meet various creatures from the ice age, the age of mammals, and the cretacious period. And the boy and his dino develop a strong friendship. The illustrations are so realistic and warm. We love this book!

My kids are in love with dinosaurs. But this book is much more than a dino book. Wilbur, about 7, awakes to hear a noise outside his window. It's a baby Apatosaurus. He names the baby Gideon, after Gideon Mantell, who discovered the first dinosaur fossil. Realizing that he cannot keep the baby dino, they take off together, back to the Jurrasic period; back to Gideon's home. This book is very beautifully illustrated. And the story is both educational and heart-touching. You won't finish with a dry eye. One of my kid's all time favorites. 28 or so pages.

5 out of 5 stars Berenstain Bears in the dark.......2005-09-24

My kids love berenstain bears they tackle just about every issue a kid would go through and gives them encouragement and useful ways to handle the issue. In the dark is no exception my daughter liked the fact that others get scared too andThey encouraged her to face her fears. It even had a funny ending. Just as good as the Tv show. Good for 1st and 2nd level readers. Great to read to any age.

5 out of 5 stars A very cute, teaching book.......2005-02-28

We got this book as part of a set and it's just great. I have to read this one over and over again but I don't mind because it definitely has a good lesson. When brother bear takes out a mystery book to read from the library, sister gets a little scared when he reads part of it to her. He then wails like the cave in the story once they get in bed just to torment her but receives his just reward when sister can't go to sleep without the light on. So, the whole family is up with sister and quite "sleepy-eyed" in the morning. Papa bear sets up his old nightlight for sister who then gets her chance for revenge when she tells brother she wished the story ended with a spooky monstoer and hangs over the edge of the top bunkbed and makes a scary face at him! Brother has a little trouble sleeping after that and decides that mysteries are exactly his "thing" just then. It's fun to read for adults, all of us who remember hanging over the edge of the top bunk to scare a sibling below. I really laughed when I read that. Pretty funny stuff, especially since I did that too! My little one loves this book and it really does help explain how to not let shadows scare you. Great book, great find.

5 out of 5 stars The Berenstain Bears In The Dark.......2003-10-03

This book is about brother bear and sister bear going to the library to get some books. When they arrived home it was reading time and brother bear scared sister bear reading her his scary book he checked out. That night sister bear couldn't fall asleep because she was scared so papa bear gave her a nightlight. That helped her fall asleep and she wasn't scared of the dark anymore. The lesson this book teaches is to not be afraid of the dark. It's a good book and I recommend it for children ages 3-10.

4 out of 5 stars A review of The IN THE DARK.......2001-12-16

I think this book is a pretty good book for people that like to read to young children, or just for anytime reading. This book features all of our favorite Berenstain Bears characters. Mama bear, Papa bear, Brother and Sister bear all play important parts in this book. In it, sister is read a scary book by brother and then is afraid of the dark, but will the scarer become the scaree?
