Book Description
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban's backyard
Anyone who despairs of the individual's power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan's treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schoolsespecially for girlsthat offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson's quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

A must read - for parents and teachers!.......2007-10-05
I was skeptical at first, but I could hardly put this book down. I was sneaking in pages at every chance I got. I finished the book in just a few days. It is powerful and motivating book. It makes me value what I have and at the same time strive to serve a part of the world I had practically ignored. I am buying copies for my friends.
My only critique is that I wish it came with a map, with dots at all the schools. The author wrote about this school map in his head - and it helped him feel less alone.
A change your life book.......2007-10-02
This book was required reading for all incoming freshmen in Montana's university system this year, and my book club chose it last spring. At first I had a hard time "getting into" it. The first 50 pages or so I considered not finishing it...there were so many foreign names and places that half the time I couldn't put the letter sounds together to make words I could even understand...BUT THEN!
This book really grasps your soul. Every time I sat down to read I felt a wave of goosebumps over my excitement with this story.
This book is very motivational also. Everything you'll read makes so much sense about changing the world through education, but you'll also find yourself finding lessons and motivation for your own life as well.
I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I've recommended it to everyone and I've passed my copy on to a friend. I also had the honor of hearing Greg Mortenson speak at a small community library, and he told his story to us like we were friends and family. It was wonderful!
You must read this book!
Buy it, read it, pass it on, give as a gift.......2007-10-01
For everything else that has already been said about this book. I agree. I also have to add that it is a page-turner. I had a hard time putting it down. I didn't expect that. I expect to be inspired and then, be unable to finish this worthy book. Instead, I was fascinated, enthralled, encouraged and rooting for Greg. I'm not finished the book yet, but I came online to order a copy for a friend. I highly recommend it.
Three cups of tea.......2007-09-30
I rated this book 5 stars. I had no idea who Greg Mortenson was until my
wife recommended his book to me. My only familiarity with Pakinstan and
Afhganistan was what I read about these countries in the news about the
Afghanistan-Iraq wars. I have a totally different concept of the people of these two countries after having read Greg's book. They are peaceful, loving, caring, intelligent people interested in the welfare of their children, whether male or female, and intent on educating them and
preparing them for the rest of their lives. I was so glad I read this book. It really opened my eyes.
If only we all took the step to reach out.......2007-09-30
Magnificient! If only we all took the step to reach out and make this world a better place for each unique human being on this earth. I couldn't put this book down because Greg is actually doing it on an amazingly large scale. If only each child in the world had the opportunity for education.....we can erase if only

Book Description
"The one thing, on which we can all agree, is that God is with the vulnerable and poor. God is in the slums and in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us if we are with them. 6,500 Africans are still dying every day of a preventable, treatable disease, for lack of drugs we can buy at any drug store. This is not about charity, this is about Justice and Equality." --Bono
This small book, based upon the speech given by Bono at the 2006 NPB, delivers an inspiring and powerful message. Here, in Bono's own words, is a reflection on his own faith and a challenge to people of all faiths to reach across boundaries and come together on behalf of what the Scriptures call "the least of these."

A Beautiful Book, but a Shallow Gospel.......2007-09-30
The content of this short book is actually a speech Bono gave at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. in 2006. Bono makes his case for justice for Africa, outlining his own personal story, the religious motivation for giving, and what he ultimately desires out of the politicians he is addressing - a commitment to devote 1% of the fiscal budget to Africa.
The pictures in this book are beautifully provocative and captivating. The words can be so, too. But don't be too quick to embrace Bono's point of view. This is social gospel to the core. Bono combines tidbits from Islam, Judaism, Christianity... whatever fits the bill, really... to advocate for the poorest of the poor. And while so much of his message about poverty is true (e.g. "There's a gigantic chasm between the scale of the emergency and the scale of the response") the basis and the context are all wrong.
I'm still figuring out what it means to live as a privileged young American in a world that is full of suffering and poverty and need. And I can only admire Bono for his Africa advocacy. I am so thankful that light is being shed on those who need our help. And I am confident that God can and does work through all of this. I don't even have a problem with Christians aligning themselves with the ONE campaign, because it stands for what we should be standing for - justice and generosity and love.
But that ends with doctrine and theology. I think Bono is preaching a shallow gospel, a cheap gospel, based on the pluralistic gods of this age. He is not preaching Christ crucified. He is preaching God in the slums. And while that is a valuable message, it doesn't compare to the most explosive message of all - Christ Jesus came to this earth to save sinners, of whom I am the very worst.
Moving and Inspiring.......2007-09-28
Bono is not only one of the biggest names in Rock and Roll history, but one of the world's best known philanthropists. His work in Africa is truly inspiring. This beautifully designed book incorporates the provocative speech he made at the 2006 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington with some of the powerful and moving pictures that Bono himself took on one of his many trips to Africa. This is a great speech with a great message, and presented as it is in this way, makes it a great book and excellent conversation starter.
Rock Superstar Bono Emerges As Major Theological Force.......2007-09-08
This book documents the emergence of Rock superstar Bono as a major theological force in the interest of ending extreme poverty in Africa, where six thousand die of AIDS each day. He is becoming the Martin Luther King of Africa aid relief.
"There is a continent--Africa--being consumed by flames. I truly believe that when the history books are written, our age will be remembered for three things: the war on terror, the digital revolution, and what we did--or did not do--to put the fire out in Africa. History, like God, is watching what we do." This quote is accompanied by the words FREEDOM and EQUALITY repeated numerous times in the form of a map of Africa.
Bono updates Isaiah 58:9-11 to report on the presence of God in today's world. "God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with a virus that will end both of their lives. God is in the cries heard under the rubble of war. God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us if we are with them."
Bono founded the advocacy group DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa) in 2002. It is a member of ONE, the Camapaign to Make Poverty History. In 2006 he launched Product (RED) to engage businesses in the fight against AIDS. He lives in Dublin, Ireland with his wife and four children.
Bono wants the United States to give an additional one percent of its federal budget annually to end world poverty. Beside a picture of a barely clothed African child, Bono says "Where you live should no longer determine whether you live." He adds, "We hear that call in the One Campaign, a growing movement of more than two million Americans left and right together, united in the belief that where you live should no longer determine whether you live."
Bono eloquently summarizes more of his agenda, "Preventing the poorest of the poor from selling their products while we sing the virtues of the free market--that's a justice issue. Holding children ransom for the debts of their grandparents--that's a justice issue. Withholding the life-saving medicines out of defeerence to the Office of Patents--that's a justice issue. And while the law is what wwe say it is, God is not silent on the subject."
Bono is of both Protestant and Catholic ancestry in a land deeply divided by literal warfare over the differences between these religions. "Religion often gets in the way of God, " Bono says. "I was cynical. Not about God, but about God's politics."
Bono was called to action by concept of the millennial year of 2000 being a Jubilee year, "an opportunity to cancel the chronic debts of the world's poorest people. They (the advocates of a Jubilee year) had the audacity to renew the Lord's call--and they were joined by Pope John Paul II, who, from an Irish half-Catholic's point of view, may have had a more direct line to the Almighty."
This is a book to stir people to action by man who, the publisher notes, "has brought about tremendous change--billions of dollars in debt relief have been forgiven and thousands of lives have been saved. But more than that, he has opened our eyes to the dignity, beauty, and strength of this continent. His eloquence when speaking about Africa at the National Prayer Breakfast inspired this book. My hope is that it will inspire you as well."
This is a book that does stir people to action, that ought to be read by people who want ideas on how to use their time and money to solve major problems facing the world. Bill Clinton, active in raising money and public consciousness for African relief in the years since he left the White House, describes this book as "Inspirational words from a man of faith and action. Bono's message is one of unparalled hope and challenge. He goes where others don't and makes us want to follow."
A rock star as an international moral leader? It is an unusual concept to be sure. But Bono says, "When churches started deomonstrating on debt, governments listened--and acted. When churches started organizing, petitioning, and even that most unholy of acts today, God forbid, lobbying on AIDS and global health, governments listened and acted.
"I'm here (at the National Prayer breakfast) today in all humility to say: you changed minds; you changed policy; you changed the world.
"Look, whatever thoughts you have about God, who God is or if God exists--most will agree that if there is a God, God has a special place for the poor. In fact, the poor are where God lives."
Bono notes the intense interest in poverty in the scriptures. "It's not a coincidence that in the Scriptures, poverty is mentioned more than 2,100 times. That's a lot of airtime, 2,100 mentions." He praises our country for doubling aid to Africa, tripling funding for global health, putting 900,000 people onto life-saving anti-viral drugs and providing 11,000,000 bed nets to protect children from malaria.
"Outstanding human achievements. Counterintuitive. Historic. Be very, very proud. But here's the bad news. There is much more to do. There's a gigantic chasm between the scale of the emergency and the scale of the respons. And finally, it's not a questions about charity after all, is it? It's about justice."
Bono works to incite his audience to action. "But justice is a higher standard. Africa makes a fool of our idea of justice. It makes a farce of our idea of equality. It mocks our pieties; it doubts our concern; it questions our commitment."
This is book that is moving, provocative, and insightful. The greater its audience, the greater will be the world's response to one of the great international challenges of our time.
A sense of longing.......2007-08-28
I saw this book this spring and knew I had to buy it. One, because Bono is someone I admire greatly. Of course I am bummed that the speech in this book was delivered at the 2006 National Prayer Breakfast, and seeing as how I have strong connections with the organizers I'm sad I didn't actually get to be there. Two, because I had saved this speech on my computer but never took the time to read the whole thing. And three because while I read it I had an immediate longing to go to Africa. To go there and knowingly have my heart broken, but knowing God's heart is breaking when a baby is born into poverty. To experience the pain and heartache, but also the joy that is thriving in these people.
Inspiring........2007-07-16
I found this book to be interesting, inspiring, heartbreaking and wonderful. As usual Bono is well spoken, deliberate, engaging and to the point.

Six Thinking Hats Review.......2007-10-03
I thought this book is excellent. This is the perfect book for a teacher or business men. The book shows you how to think logically and clearly. I give the book 5 stars.

Great Easy Read.......2007-06-02
I would recommend this book to students of every discipline, as well as non-students. This book has great examples for each lateral thinking concept. It's one of those feel-good books that can be motivating and empowering.
Edward de Bono writes about using different styles of thinking that can be used for any situation. He organizes philosophies about thinking that has been around for ages into visual concepts to be applied in daily scenarios.
Brief spoiler ahead..

Yes the blue hat is tricky, so you should buy the book and get more details.
Six Thinking Hats review.......2007-06-02
De bono's six thinking hats covers the different mind-sets for the thinker. He explains the need for different types of thinking processes, each type of thinking symbolized by wearing a different hat. The book is filled with amusing ideas and interesting philosophy about thinking. It is a easy read. I believe that if the logic of this book is followed before making important decisions, one will never rush into a conclusion they are not prepared for. Some people in life are born with the ability to think....or they have had much practice.....others follow the program previously set in place or what they are told. Practice thinking and you can become a six hat thinker. Read this book a let a thinker...De Bono....teach you how powerfull your mind can become.
Great book! Just ask the author, he already knows........2007-06-02
Six Thinking Hats is not as good as Edward De Bono may believe. Now that is not saying that Six Thinking Hats is a bad book, it is just that Edward De Bono is extremely arrogant. He promotes his method constantly throughout the entire book. Once you get over his arrogance, the ideas of his method are actually pretty interesting. Having everyone in a meeting working together on a common purpose using the six thinking hats will greatly increase the productivity. The book is pretty easy to read and it is filled with tons of good examples. His arrogance is a little annoying, but just get over it because this book is totally worth reading.
Book Description
The seminal book that introduced a new way of reasoning and decision making. "Dr. de Bono does not claim to be able to turn us all into Miltons, Da Vincis, and Einsteins. . . . The Muse never appears to most of us--hence the value of this book."--Times Educational Supplement

Be Smarter than Socrates.......2007-07-21
Isn't it amazing that for hundreds of years no one thought about creative thinking till de bono and lateral thinking came along.
Lateral Thinking - Edward de Bono.......2007-07-20
This book is more like cognitive training manual. It explains some techniques about how to open up your thought processes to get better results. It is more like a book for school teachers rather than general reader.
It will not turn you into creative genius, but it can open some doors... .......2006-12-03
"With lateral thinking one goes on generating as many approaches
as one can even after one has found a promising one."
[Lateral Thinking]
Human mind is during the school education instructed how to think vertically. Meaning, how to evaluate alternatives, how to pick the right one and how to proceed from premises to conclusions. However, it is only seldomly instructed how to create alternatives, how to generate ideas - and that's were this book is helpful. Kind regards, Mario.
Interesting Subject and Approach.......2005-01-05
This book was recommended to me because I was impressed with Ackoff's "The Art of Problem Solving." Enduring all 300 pages of this poorly written, repetitious work is proof that just because the subject matter is interesting, any given coverage of it will not necessarily be so. The book does have some merit and a few original ideas. That's part of the reason it has endured. The other reason is that the author, being so prolific, has kept himself current. Last but not least, the field of "creativity in thought" has so few good, logical authors with descriptive talent.
A start for continous improvement.......2004-02-10
"Do not limit your mind, don't assume" could be a brief summary of the book. The author has made quite a good start, explanining how new ideas could be formed and how the best looking idea may not be the best to pick up. The book would be useful for people who have been in a stable environment, a place where improvements are seen as threats so you couldn't improve most of the things. The negative side was, that there were to many repeats of the same idea through out the chapter and the book. That was a bit boring. The "PO" word is a good idea, but doesn't need that much explanation. I would recommend it for starters in continuous improvement concept.
Book Description
By teaching their children the skills presented in this program, parents can ensure their future success. Dr. Edward de Bono lays out a step-by-step plan that will help children develop clear and constructive thinking, based on a method that makes thinking fun.

Worthwhile as a practical guide.......2003-09-09
This is a how-to manual on thinking. The main emphasis is on habits of a good thinker, such as focus and purpose, and specific thinking tools, such as the "Plus, Minus and Interesting" technique. The book enumerates many specific methods of effective thinking and suggests exercises to practice each of them.
First some Critical Thinking (a valid, but inferior activity, according to the author). In spite of the cerebral subject, some statements sound decidedly lowbrow. Intellectualism is put down as an overly complex and non-creative activity. For a purportedly successful methodology that has been around for 20 years (at the time of the book's publishing), the absence of scientific proof that the theory works is surprising: only one study with a concrete result is mentioned. One stumbles over some inconsistencies: on p. 11 critical thinking is said not to have high value in today's society, but on the next page it is claimed to be important. Terms such as "mathematical necessity of creativity" betray the author's careless use of language ("mathematical" is out of place here).
The title is vague. 30 pages into the book one learns that the methods presented are generally applicable to children older than 9. This information should have been present in the cover notes or in the editorial reviews. The boy on the book's cover looks like a 5-year-old. The section on which methods to teach at which age should be in the back, since the special terms and abbreviations, mentioned before they are explained, do not make sense. The cover note claim that the book helps kids "to make today's life-and-death choices" seems rather heavy-handed.
The author does not suffer from modesty: "unlike many people in this field, Dr. de Bono is an original thinker". The book is rather dry, and it is especially unfortunate since the author would like children to be among the readers.
Developing educational tools for thinking echoes works of other writers (Rita Levi Montalcini, a 1986 Nobel winner in medicine, is one). Still, the author does not refer to anybody else's research on the topic, nor is there a list of literature.
The main strengths of the book are its practicality and optimism. The tools are simple to use and the exercises on each technique are engaging. Refreshing is the belief that everybody can be taught to become a thinker.
By far the most interesting and original part of the book is on teaching creativity by means of provocation and Random Word technique. Both tools are designed to bring one to a dramatically new view on the problem and to a solution that may be called "creative". Other techniques, such as "Consider All Factors" or "Outcome and Conclusion", might seem self-evident, but practicing them with children seems a worthwhile exercise.
To summarize, most shortcomings of the book seem overall insignificant, whereas the core is healthy. I would recommend the book to those who are prepared to practice or teach thinking techniques.
Interesting.......2001-12-29
I had a quick browse of the book and I find interesting. I believe it would have been better have a title Improve your thinking rather than teach your child how to think. I found the book to be helpfully to any age.
The following captured my interest:
Difference between, cleverness, wisdom and intelligence
Perception vs. wisdom and use of logic
The first rule of Intellectualism If you do not have much to say make it complex as possible.
Criticism is much easier than creation. It encourages individual creativity even when challenged .
Wish I'd Learned Thinking Tools at Age 15.......2001-12-29
I am thoroughly impressed with Edward De Bono's matter-of-fact, wholly insightful, and unique yet practical work(s) published in the field of Thinking over the last four decades.
After listening to De Bono's taped works (such as "Teach Your Child How to Think"), I was both saddened and amazed to realize how limited in scope were the types and tools of thinking I was taught at all levels of education. The high school I attended focused primarily on acquiring information; the Ivy-league schools I attended taught specialized material primarily through judgment, criticism, analysis, and argument.
Other important thinking modes, especially action-oriented ones such as design, exploration, creativity, and so forth, were assumed to arise mainly from talent and intelligence, and therefore were not taught, even ignored. How wrong and damaging was that default view !
How I also wish I'd learned some of De Bono's concepts, perspectives, and tools in high school (or earlier). Important parts of life would have been much richer, perhaps easier (higher education is one example).
Though I rate these tapes 5-stars, I want to point out that it is likely an adult will have to internalize this material and teach it carefully to a young person. There will be a learning curve in the beginning.
Ed De Bono's works are packed with useful tools and insights. Because they are packed, gaining the most benefit requires reading "between the lines". I believe the listener must "stop the tape" (or put down the book) and make the effort to expand on De Bono's concepts and comments, in part by mapping them into past personal experiences (particularly useful are those experiences that had costly or unpleasant outcomes for the listener because at the time he/she lacked (or misapplied) certain thinking tools).
I am convinced that anyone of average intelligence and education who invests about 20 hours effort to listen to, internalize, and then practice a half-dozen of De Bono's various thinking tools will be amazed at the improvement it will yield in his/her relationships and work. I offer this comment as neither a religious nor "New Age" promoter but merely as a person who continues to benefit from these approaches.
I also highly recommend De Bono's "Teach Yourself to Think" tape set. It largely complements this set.
Buy one get all from Edward.......2001-02-07
If you are new to Edward, this book is good for you. You can read just one book and get many other books written by Edward. Since this book summarize many other books.
But if you want to teach your child after reading this book, you may find that it is not so easy to apply the theory to your child.
However, I learn quite a lot of thinking method from this book.
Thanks!

I am impressed!.......2003-09-04
I recently attended an Optimal Thinking for Leaders seminar by Dr. Rosalene Glickman who referred to Dr. De Bono as the world authority on creativity. She recommended to the audience of 500 to read this book and especially to take note of the "Small Map" and the "Big Map". Well, I have to say De Bono is a brilliant author, and I finally understand what creativity means and how to apply it most effectively during conflicts and other situations. I highly recommend this book.
Masterful explanation of creativity........2003-04-03
In my estimation, Edward de Bono is the world authority on creativity. I have read most of his books, and seen him speak at the International Conferences on Thinking. This book will not disappoint you. I was especialy impressed with his explanations of the creative pause, focus, and how to come up with alternatives. His sensitizing techniques are unique and a must read for anyone who wants to optimize their creativity.

agreeing with the reader from New York.......2002-08-28
I read the review written by someone from New York. I was surprised that he or she had the same feelings about the book as I had. This is a shocking book. On the one hand, it is excellent and teaches people a lot about how to think about a problem. On the other hand, the author is so self-conceited that sometimes I asked myself: if he is so creative, why didn't he invent ANYTHING apart from his own way of making money?
The funny thing is, that I still recommend this book!

buy only this one..........1999-12-06
By now I think I have read about fifteen of De Bono's books and this is certainly the best. Many of the others seem to be mostly regurgitations of the the same old stuff. Does he get paid by the word? He claims to have written about 25 books, but I think he has to a great extent written one book over and over again. And he seems so pompous and arrogant. How can someone with such arrogance be creative? He never quotes others (perhaps to him there are no others) or cites other works on creativity, even in cases where his ideas were clearly not first his. This is an excellent book, but by an ego-centric author and that unfortunately colors all his writing.
Book Description
For the first time ever, Bono-the biggest rock star in the world-tells his life story.
Bono's career is unlike any other in rock history. As the lead singer of U2, Bono has sold 130 million albums, won fourteen Grammys, and played numerous sold-out world tours, but he has also lobbied and worked with world leaders from Bill Clinton and George W. Bush to Nelson Mandela on debt relief, AIDS, and other critical global issues. He has collaborated with the same musicians for nearly three decades and has been married to his childhood sweetheart since 1982. His life, at all turns, resists the rock star clichés.
In a series of intimate conversations with his friend Michka Assayas, a music journalist who has been with the band since the very beginning, Bono reflects on his transformation from the extrovert singer of a small Irish post-punk band into one of the most famous individuals in the world; and from an international celebrity to an influential spokesperson for the Third World. He speaks candidly about his faith, family, commitment, influences, service, and passion. Bono: A Self-Portrait in Conversation is the closest we will come, for now, to a memoir from the iconic frontman of U2.

I luv Bono.......2007-01-17
The book is helping me get to know Bono better. It is interesting to find out where he came from, and how he lived his life. He has deep intelligence, and a humanitarian lifestyle.
An Intriguing Look into the Life of Bono.......2007-01-11
This book is layed out in question/answer format making it very easy to leave off and pick up. It is a very addictive read with interesting and inspiring dialogue. There is an openness that the writer pulls out of Bono that reveals his faith, history and philosophy. From it, you discover that Bono is very human and surprisingly down to earth.
Excellent Book for U2 fans and non-fans alike!.......2007-01-09
This book is really well done. Most interviews tend to be short and highly edited without any real debate between the interviewer and interviewee. That is not the case here. Assayas asks some tough questions and challenges some of Bono's thinking, especially on Africa. I know the book is well written because Assayas often asks the exact follow-up question that I would ask. Nice to see a celebrity challenged.
If you like U2 and Bono, you will love this book, as it will give you a better glimpse of who Bono really is and what motivates him. If you don't like U2, you will enjoy this book too. Enjoy it or not, Bono has become somewhat of a ubiquitous figure, at least as rock stars go. This will help you understand him. It will probably also provide you with some ammo to attack him.
Certainly a worthy read.
Bono, the Philosopher .......2007-01-06
I have been a fan of U2 for well over a decade and love everything that surrounds the band. I must say that Bono is one of the more unique lead singers around in modern times. His presence on stage, rock star image and powerful voice make him and U2 a class act and able to cross any boundary musically.
As for this book, I was very excited about reading it and wasn't disappointed when I closed it. This book is literally an on going dialogue between Bono and author/journalist Michka Assayas. I believe the book was written over a two year span, and is set up interview style. Almost like a Rolling Stone and/or Spin magazine interview. It took me about a chapter to digest the style, but then it was smooth sailing.
I have always thought Bono was super cool, insightful and a true humanitarian. However, I never realized how philosophical he is. I have read some of his quotes or seen him on TV say clever or quick-witted things over the years, but some of his introspective in this book is amazing.
If someone is looking for a diatribe on U2 please look elsewhere. This book does cover many aspects of U2; it's members and history. Nevertheless, there are many other areas that are covered. Such as his support efforts in Africa, meetings with political figures, his relationship with his father and sociology.
My only quote-unquote problem with this book isn't on Bono's end but on Michka Assayas' end. He provides wonderful questions and narration where the conversations are taking place, but many of his questions to Bono are redundant. I can understand wanting clarifications on a subject. Consequently, many inquires are knighted with semantics and addressed to Bono several times throughout the book. It didn't appear it bothered Bono, he always had some perceptiveness on the topic at hand. Yet I felt there were other realms that could have been explored and discovered, instead of tautological matters being brought up time and time again.
I have always thought Bono was awesome, but this book showed me that there are many levels to this man. As for his intellect, I'm a pretty well read person having my masters in social sciences, but some of the topics Bono was talking about were over my head. In other words, Bono isn't the dullest crayon in the box. In contrast, he really does seem like a guy you can sit down and have a cup of coffee and sandwich with. I believe many pop and movie stars could really benefit from reading this book, it could help them put their feet back on the ground.
WHAT A WASTE OF $$!!!.......2006-09-05
I did not even finish this!!... I have No idea what this book was trying to get across... I give Bono credit for the hard work he is doing for Aids but I do not understand where or what this conversation??? was all about...Sorry Bono, I am a big fan of your music, but this book was so confusing and not at all enlightening.

Kid-friendly themes and eye-catching colors fill the pages of this charming book aimed at intermediate to experienced quilters. What sports-minded child could resist the Home Run, Touchdown, Race Day, or Dreams of Gold (gymnastics) quilts? Animal lovers will delight in the parading elephants, carousel horse, polar bear, and mischievous kittens eyeing the goldfish bowl. And fairy-tale fans are sure to adore the magnificent castle design. Each project features excellent directions, thorough colored templates, a good color photo of the finished quilt, and helpful tips on fabric selection. The opening section provides an overview of all the necessary techniques, including an easy approach to appliqué (though, as the introduction warns, the projects are geared toward a more advanced skill level). Quilters seeking truly unique designs to thrill a child will find an abundance here, and, in the words of the authors, their creations may become "cherished quilts for the child inside every adult." --Amy Handy

Inspirational.......2007-08-06
All of De Bono's works are highly inspiring and this book is no different. I also recommend Eightstorm: 8-Step Brainstorming for Innovative Managers.
The basic tools are here.......2006-06-14
My Profile: 40+ yo, sales engineer.
I write this review after lending book to a good friend. he was unsatisfied because it did not provide a theoretical frame or basis from where to construct a logical thesis. This is precisely what the book tries to avoid, a dogmatic approach to thinking... and perhaps my friend's reaction shows the difference between pragamatic philosophy and those based on "first principles"..
Chapter 4- Perception & Schemes (this refers to the spanish edition 1987 Plaza & Janez) alone is worth the price of the book and is a a principle worth hanging on a frame right in front of your desk, the problems you face in the world are mainly perception problems... and the complexities inherent in it...
This is a book to challange your "default" or habitual mode of your problem solving.. simple but not simplistic.. its the use of the tool what matter.. because it can lead you to a newer perception.
Teacher & Engineer.......2005-03-07
This will be a good introductory book on how to think effectively. I gave it 5 stars due to both its content's qaulity and low price.
I would highly recommend to have this. book on every my family's library bookshelf.
A collection of skills rather than a well-organised course.......2004-11-15
If you can read this book through, the one thing that may really stick in your mind should be the large number of acronyms brought forth by the author:-
PMI (Plus, Minus, Interesting)
APC (Alternatives, Possibilities, Choices)
CAF (consider all factors)
C&S (Consequence & Sequel)
EBS (examine both sides)
ADI (Agreement, Disagreement, Irrelevance)
OPV (Other People's Views)
etc etc, all skills supposed to enhance readers' ability to think, to jump out of perceptions and patterns of thinking that the author regards as the biggest block against our creativity. Ironically, the author had reserved only 18 pages for his renowned "Laternal Thinking", that he had gone thru related methods of "Stepping Stone" (treat an idea of its movement value instead of just its judgement value), "Escape" (think of alternatives for things we take for granted) and "Random stimulation" (open ourselves to influence other than those we directly look for).
What had been written so far might seem rather a collection of jargons than an organised passage with clear objectives. However, I assure you that you will get the same bad feeling from reading the book. Perhaps the author had published so many books that it became too hard for him to write a new one with original, flesh, and practical examples and ideas at all. In that case you really want to read something from de Bono, the "Six Thinking Hats" is a much better choice.
