Book Description
A consummate insider as the girlfriend of Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist, Carol Ann Harris leads fans into the very heart of the band’s storms between 1976 and 1984. From interactions between the band and other stars—Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, and Dennis Wilson—to the chaotic animosity between band members, this memoir combines the sensational account of some of the world’s most famous musicians with a thrilling love story. Illustrated with never-before-seen photographs, the parties, fights, drug use, shenanigans, and sex lives of Fleetwood Mac are presented in intimate detail. With the exception of one brief interview, Carol Ann Harris has never before spoken about her time with Fleetwood Mac.

Page turning excitement!.......2007-09-21
very intriguing could not put it down tastefully told of a time circa {1977}when indulgence was in excess. gives you a behind the scenes multiple love triangle complete with, drug, sex, rocknroll and superstardom!
Great Great Book.......2007-09-18
If you are a fan of Fleetwood Mac or in particular Lindsey Buckingham you absolutely must read this book. I could not put it down. While some of the events disclosed in the book have been discussed in previous interviews and books it gives an in depth look at the band in a way that differs from Mick Fleetwood's account in his autobiography. Very heartbreaking at times and at times hillarious it is a surprisingly well written book that left you wondering how did Fleetwood Mac and Mrs. Harris in particular survive those harrowing days.
Good but maybe half true .......2007-09-14
I felt that Carole Ann Harris left a lot out. She seemed shocked anytime someone went off on her in the book. She was innocent, never thought a mean thought never said an unkind word. All she ever did was sniff a little blow when it was around. She was an angel with a vice and it was a wonder that she endured FM for as long as she did. I don't buy it. I liked the book and I read it pretty quickly but I was left wanting more. If everything happened the way she said it did then FM needs a schizophrenic observation. The book was a good read but I think after 30 years Miss Carole is still trying to save face. I don't feel her pain so much because she is still trying to protect herself while somewhat lovingly tarnishing others. There is no excuse for abuse (I don't know if Lindsey did it or not) so why does she pretend that she doesn't know why he would hit her. We know an abuser would beat you over burnt toast so why hide. She doesn't know why Lindsey did her that way nor did she ask him. One minute he would be fine the next pow right in the kisser. How ever crazy Lindsey was when you spend time with someone you begin to understand them and their off the wall reasoning. Carole pretends ignoranc
my favorite fleetwood mac book ever.........2007-08-27
i have been a fan of stevie's since i was 12 years old and just turned 40. having attention deficit disorder for as long as i can remember i have never been able to read an entire book...ever.i finished this book the same night i started it. yes, parts of it are extremely heartbreaking but i found a lot of respect for the author Carol Ann Harris. i have read on the internet some of the flak she has received about waiting all this time to put a book out. i really think she waited all this time out of respect for all involved. (and no i am not a friend of Carol Ann Harris- i havent even met her).i also have a lot of respect for her for the way she talked about stevie in the book. there were a few things in the book about stevie that i wish i would have never read but overall she talked about stevie with much respect and admiration. the same goes with lindsey buckingham. she told the bitter truth that many of us long time fans already knew but she told it and it seems like she still loves lindsey. she told the painful stories but she was protective of him at the same time. i hate some of the things in this book but i respect the honesty and protection she continously displays throughout. i imagine stevie and lindsey are not happy about this book but i think the story was told as caring as possible. It's a must have. Carol Ann Harris i totally applaud you on a terrific book. jeff horton/indianapolis
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!.......2007-08-26
Carol Ann Harris was oblivious to the fact that all she was to Lindsey was a poor substitute for Stevie. Even she herself seems obsessed with Stevie's stage presence, her clothes, looks, etc. She's so naive - Lindsey wasn't over Stevie then and every girlfriend (even his current wife) has looked like Stevie, so one wonders if he's even over her now. She couldn't even come up with an original title for this book - "Storms" is one of Stevie's songs! Plus, she's whiny and melodramatic throughout, don't waste your time or money.

Book Description
This insightful behind-the-scenes look at the making of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours explores the strong personalities behind the band and the creative tensions between the members that helped to shape the lyrical content of this era-defying, classic album. Original research and new interviews with those who were there reveal the technical challenges and excessive drinking and drug abuse that went on during the album's production. The complex relationships within the group and each individual's contribution to the album are discussed. The two rocky romances within the band, including the breakdown of John and Christine McVie's marriage and the increasingly strained relationship between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, are also discussed, as are the songs on the album they influenced. The stories that inspired and created one of the most popular and significant albums of all time are unearthed.

Fleetwood Mac .. a potted history !!.......2005-08-03
An interesting & absorbing read. To a long-time fan like me a lot of the detail was already known & there were items that were clearly sourced from other publications but, to be fair, this was made clear & not hidden at all. I was pleased that some time was given over to other albums & not only "Rumours". Having said that I think the casual reader, drawn-in by the reference to "Rumours", would think it was an enjoyable & informative read & well presented. To be honest I found there were some elements that were new to me - which raised an eyebrow - so a "thumb's up" all round.
Entertaining, insightful and well-written.......2005-01-25
First, a confession: author Cath Carroll interviewed me for this book and when my Amazon.com copy arrived yesterday, I shamelessly looked up in the index the references to my name and read those parts first. Not only did she get everything right, she caught the spirit, the humor and the nuance of our conversation. What a hoot to see in print for the first time some of my favorite nuggets from my years as a Rolling Stone contributor.
More to the point, in addition to delivering the goods to Fleetwood Mac's fans, Never Break the Chain is entertaining, literate and, I submit, a significant contribution to pop culture letters. What is so impressive is that Cath Carroll has written a book about something that happened nearly 30 years ago, centered around an ostensibly small event, and yet she used it as a touchstone to beautifully capture the the energy, the gestalt and, strangely, a sense of relevance and importance of that special time that endures to this day.
The funny thing is, I don't think any of us at the time, neither FM or me, had a clue that what was going down was THAT significant. But I suspect in such times, few of any of us do.
No doubt part of my enthusiasm for the book derives from my having been there during that incandescent period, but my appreciation owes in far greater measure to Cath Carroll's skill as a journalist, her ear for a story, and her passion for her subject. Flat out gifted journalism. I hope the band reads this gem of a book. Highest recommendation.
a decent read.......2004-09-09
First of all, I was pleasantly surprised to have received this book about a week ago from Amazon. I wasn't expecting it until October. This book is well written and I learned a few new things about what went on during the making of Rumours. I was disappointed that there are so few photos in this book but it includes some I had never seen. If you are a Fleetwood Mac fan, this isn't a bad item to add to your collection.

Dreams.......2005-02-04
This songbook has 27 songs in it. I only know the more popular ones, like: As Long As You Follow, Don't Stop, Gypsy, Hold Me, Landslide, Little Lies, Over My Head, Rhiannon & Sara. I play standard notation and I found this to be a simple guitar book and the notes go along with the words, except a tiny intro. I wish it would have been more like how the songs are actually played, but I have to give it 5 stars anyway because most music books out there are formatted like this one. For you TAB folks, sorry--there are none. The intro for "Dreams" is also short, but sounds very beautiful!

A correction........2005-10-17
The two songs on the CD included with the hard cover edition are actually from Jeremy Spencer's 1970 solo album - released shortly after Fleetwood Mac's Then Play On, which Jeremy did not play on. Although essentially a Fleetwood Mac album, it has never been released on CD.
The songs feature Jeremy, Danny Kirwan, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie - in fact everyone in Fleetwood Mac at the time EXCEPT Peter Green, who only played on one track on the album.

This book is a must have for any Fleetwood Mac fan! It includes wonderful pictures and an indepth history of the band. The CD includes Mick Fleetwood talking up 2 never released songs sung by Peter Green - very cool!

Clips Rehashed.......2007-08-08
Based on no interviews with any of the principles, this rock bio expose uses clips from many contemporary newspaper and mag articles to build a story of how this '70s supergroup fared before, during and after its biggest moments surrounding the albums "Fleetwood Mac" and "Rumours." The usual romantic entanglements are recalled. You'll be quite sick of Lindsey Buckingham's self absorption. But you'll want to go back and re-listen to the great music, which is the real point of books like this anyway.
Very informative and entertaining book.......2006-04-25
It looks as though there are several negative reviews here for this book. The chief complaint seems to be that none of the information revealed in the book is new information about Fleetwood Mac.
Maybe that's true...but old information to some people is new information to others.
I've been a big fan of FM's music for many years but I didn't know a lot about their history as a band. Sure, I knew a lot of the more popular stories, but there was still a lot I hadn't heard before.
This book taught me a lot more about the band. It's well-written and a fun read.
I think the author did a great job on it.
Ugh.......2004-01-03
I definitely hated this book. I'm a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, and found had read all of the articles in the book before I read the book itself. I'd found them online... don't waste money, just do an online search!
Big Mac.......2003-10-21
In the late 60s and early 70s plates shifted and faults widened. Then in 77 the earthquake hit. Landscapes were forever changed. After 77 shock waves continued well into the 90s and beyond, but none had the impact of the original. If you think my metaphor for the career of Fleetwood Mac is cheesy, you should read those in Rumors Exposed. Lame metaphors and cliches are as ubiquitous here as in any Behind The Music documentary. Nicks and Don Henley as the captain of the cheerleaders and star quarterback? Puh-lease. Furman also comes across a little too apologetic for bad behaviour, offering her own interpretations, excuses and psycho-analysis of band members. Her bias is particularly strong in favour of Stevie Nicks (but most fans seem to feel the same way, so this may not be a problem). I would have liked a little more objectivity. But the book is well constructed. Very detailed, and thorough, Furman has a knack for choosing what to put in and knowing where to put it (knowing how to say it is another issue). True, the book doesn't offer much in the way of revelations, but when you're a band this chronicled, there's little in the way of news. Not to say the book is unnecessary. Furman compiled all the relevant info that's out there, sifted out the "who cares?" stuff, and put together a complete, easy to read history of the band. Readers beware: the book was released in 2000 so if you're looking for info about the Mac's last album, you won't find it.
I want to write a book!.......2001-01-05
If you are a great Fleetwood Mac fan like myself, than you probably have heard or read every article or story in this book . Basically it is a compilation of old articles, and if you think that a book published in 2000 should in some way shed light on the relationships of band members since 97', or perhaps tell us about Lindsey's marriage-please get us an advance and we will get to writing a book that achieves that! lol I'm just kidding, but it would be nice if there was a book written that had some inside sources, so that new stories can be relayed that give us a glimpse into who these people have evolved into now. It's just a thought, and I know that one day when Stevie writes her memoirs we may get what we have been waiting for all along!

Good guidebook.......2003-03-08
Good little book if you follow the music of Fleetwood Mac and are as big of a fan as I am. Easy to read and has some good photos of the band that haven't been seen before.
Why bother?.......2001-01-06
Why did this person bother to write such an overly critical book about a band he/she clearly does not like (apart from the early stuff). One track will remind some readers of the Smiths we are told, another uses a similar keyboard sound to Genesis! This is garbage. Each to his own opinion but, having loved all incarnations of FM, a lot of this book misses the point. Omnibus should be ashamed for including this in their usually excellent series.
Completely Biased.......2000-07-30
The author takes the time to bash a good percentage of Fleetwood Mac songs, including Gypsy "a track that seems to wilt rather than conclude", Hold Me(their #4 hit) "an average FM performance {that} never really catches fire", several of Lindsey's Tusk songs "expendable" and "throw-away", and he definitely shows a preference for the Peter Green era. Good for PG era fans, fans of later eras---stay away.

So personal................2006-07-15
I am close to finishing this book which I learned was given to my husband many years ago. It has given me a personal insight into what I never looked at that way. Mick Fleetwood always seemed like a big freak to me. But he is "fleetwood" and he knows how it all went. It is truly an insight into his feelings and a lot more. If you love fleetwood mac, read this and learn all about them - and him, from the beginning.(I'm sure there is a lot you didn't know.). It is touching. Really. Just get it and read it. There's nothing else to say, except how moved I am by this book. Read it.
Enjoyable read.......2003-12-14
Mick Fleetwood (possibly with help from his writing partner) has a funny, straightforward, conversational style in this book that makes it enjoyable to read. He's very informative about Fleetwood Mac, the band with such a long history. Mick has a good sense of humor about himself and his weaknesses; he discusses bankruptcy, other legal problems, drinking and drug use, affairs, and all kinds of rowdiness with humor and (seemingly) nothing to hide. Admittedly I read this book because I'm more of a Stevie Nicks fan than a Fleetwood Mac muscial group fan - there's some good stuff about her, too, once the Mac is reinventing itself in California. Thumbs up for this book.
Highly entertaining and surprising history of Fleetwood Mac.......2001-05-11
I fully expected to read all the "soap-opera-ish" accounts of the turbulent Nicks-Buckingham early years (you do get plenty of this), but I didn't realize the original Fleetwood Mac had such an interesting early history! I've heard all the stories about this account not being 100% factual, but, even if it's not entirely accurate, it's very definetly worth the read. Fleetwood's self-depricating humor and honest (to a fault) dialouge make this one of the best Rock books that I've read...highly recommended.
Great rock icon lineage through bands like Fleetwood Mac.......2000-04-01
This book is great reading, mostly if you were apart of the rock revolution of the 60's and 70's. It is interesting to see the heritage of some of my favorite rock icons that came through the John Mayall bands into those like Fleetwood Mac. Mick is very introspective to a fault in this book, however he does humanize a lot of what was going on during those crazy years.
A must for any Fleetwood Mac fan!.......2000-02-27
I had to wait a year and a half to get this book (it was already out of print). but boy, was it worthwhile! An insiders view of the often turbulent career of one of the greatest bands ever! Mick Fleetwood tells it all with an open heart. The book smells sincerity and the drummer gives us one of the best biographies I ever saw, telling all the good or bad facts he saw during his 25 plus years in the band. Unlyke meny other books about rock bands, mr. Fleetwood doe not try to hide anything about the rock life he gone through. I could not stop reading it until I finished it. A very touching book. As a human being and musician mr. Fleetwood has got my respect. Long Live Fleetwood Mac!
