I like this book pretty much. Songs are from the first 5 albums. Tabs are in key with the recordings and the solos are pretty much complete. Worth the price I gave for it, just wish there were more of their later songs.

Full Moon Stories.......2000-04-29
This book of stories is a rare treat to read. I couldn't get onto the next story fast enough. With each tale I was pulled straight into the home and at the knees of the storyteller, Grandpa Iron. I "became" one of his grandchildren, smudged by the cedar, leaning forward to hear every detail of the story about horse, moose, mole, swallow, and the nine other animals, one for each poetically descriptive Full Moon of the year such as "Moon of the Popping Trees" in December with turtle. I, like Grandpa Iron's grandchildren, relish and believe the stories! How hard it must have been for the children to wait one whole month for each new story.
I love the illustrations, both paintings and colored pencil drawings. They convey the character and movement of the animals so well. The colors are bright and entrancing; and the symbols painted on the animals are intriguing. They look so like the pictographs I have seen painted on hides in museums and reproduced from ledger books. There are stars, moon, lightning, mountains, the sun, and other ones which are yet a mystery to me.
As well as the stoies there are details of the children's and Grandpa and Grandma Iron's life on the Wind River Reservation: doing chores, packing to go to the Sundance, eating Grandma's stew and fry bread, and running barefoot in the snow. I have been to Wind River and could feel again through the book the vastness and intimacy of the land. This book is an outstanding model of how stories can be written and presented with enthusiasm for children.

A rare book!.......2001-07-27
This is a very enlightening book. Finally, it seems someone has had the courage to divulge some of the more esoteric teachings of Native American spirituality. I have studied esoteric teachings for many years, and there is far between books like these that really gives you many and deep insights. Definitely a book that can be read many times, and each time you will get something more out of it. A far cry from the books of "plastic medicine men". T. ex you can buy books out there that tells you how to make your own medicine wheel, even coming from a non-native background. This book will tell you that you are not reallly ready for any such thing before AT LEAST 30 years of study and practice. No quick-fixes here! As non-natives we need to have an very deep respect for Native American spirituality. First we took their land, then we prohibited their religion and language, forcing their children to go to boarding schools in order to brainwash them into Churchianity and capitalism (this first ended in 1970!!), and THEN well-meaning, if ignorant, people come and demand to be initiated into their spirituality, taking Indian names, charging money for teachings, etc. I do believe we can learn from them, if we will listen with an attitude of respect. It is wonderful that Chokecherry Call Eagle had the mission and the courage to publish the teachings in this book. An extremely honest and higly recommendable book..!
Astounding.......2001-07-16
I read a lot of books on Native American spirituality, Christianity and other spiritual paths, and I don't think I have ever encountered one this good. Chokecherry Gall Eagle has led a truly amazing and unparalleled life. The wisdom he has gained and the fact that he is willing to share this knowledge with everyone is still amazing me. There are so many lessons to be learned from what he has to say. I have read it twice and I am sure will read it many more times, just to soak in as much as I can. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in any aspect of spirituality, or to anyone who wants to read an amazing story.
Beyond the Lodge of the Sun.......2000-02-09
This book was a delightful surprise! The author's words and opinions spoke loudly to me and I appreciate his candor and willingness to present the story and information in a way that is more easily understood by people who are not steeped in the traditions and concepts of Native American Spirituality. While the book was very interesting and entertaining, the most important impact this book had on me was triggering a lot of introspection and thought on my own beliefs, particularly in regard to Native American spirituality. The author's sincerity and seriousness about the subject matter were refreshing, and the depth of his committment is obvious. There is one thing about this subject, book, and author that I was left with to chew on that I have thought of many times before and still have not found much resolution on. For people who are sincerely trying to learn from this Red Road in order to make themselves a better human being, the author's personal experiences are enviable. There is so much "stuff" out there and so few people who truly have the traditional knowledge and the sincere commitment, that experiencing the "real" thing when it comes to interaction with people tends to be the exception rather than the rule. I guess we all have to do as best we can, stay sincere and committed, and trust that the Creator will provide us with the appropriate guidance and direction. In closing, I would like to thank Mr. Gall Eagle for his willingness to share his life experiences, his knowledge, and his wisdom; but mostly I would like to thank him for simply being who he is and living the life he is living. There is much in this book for people to learn from, if you take the time to look within and examine yourself honestly. Take time to sit and "Cogitate" (as my grandfather used to say), to let the messages and wisdom that are there for you individually, manifest themselves. There is much here below the surface for those who ernestly seek.
Book Description
The daring, courage and skill of the highly-trained men who spearheaded German assaults in the blitzkrieg of 1940, dropping from the air to seize and overwhelm key invasion points, showed to an alarmed world that a new dimension had been added to the science of warfare. The German paratroopers' most spectacular success was the invasion and capture of Crete in May 1941. For the rest of the war the parachute troops were used almost exclusively in a ground role, but they remained an elite, justifying again and again their great reputation for courage and hard fighting in Russia, North Africa and Italy. James Lucas, well-known as a military historian, has researched deep into Allied and German archives and interviewed many of the leading members of the Fallschirmjaeger units and formations who survived the war. This resulting book is a fascinating and dramatic account of the elite German airborne forces of the Second World War.

Get One Thing Straight - Canadians Are Not "British".......2007-09-06
Author Lucas is like many military historians. Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, and South African exploits are usually lumped in with "British" when relating events from WWI and WW II.
In this book, for example, not only does he pass off in a few words the monumental battle at Ortona, he refers - for the most part - to the attacking troops as "British."
Ortona was, is, and always will be an icon of the gallantry of the men of the 1st Canadian Division. Even the New York Times acknowledged the magnitude of this epic Canadian fight against the German paras, calling it "Little Stalingrad" in reports from the front.
If you want to read about the heroism on BOTH sides in that historic confrontation, seek out Mark Zuehlke's Ortona.
Eagles or Green Devils, Warriors All.......2007-04-07
Storming Eagles: German Airborne Forces in World War II by James Lucas is a fascinating book, written not as a piece of Fallschirmjaeger ideology, nor as pointed anti-German prose from a former British soldier who faced these warriors (as Lucas was), but rather as a clear-headed and balanced account of the actions of these German troops throughout the Second World War. Lucas has crafted his prose in such a way that readers from an Allied lineage will away not feeling as though they have been reading about the 'enemy' as much as having read about groups of elite well-trained, valorous and tenacious soldiers who fought bravely for their country in the great conflict that was WWII. This is not an easy task for an author as so much emotion is still (60 odd year out) connected with this conflict and nationalism of readers is not absent. Yet, on reading Lucas' book this reviewer often felt he was reading not about German paratroopers but units from the 101st or 82nd US Airborne, or British 1st Airborne - one need only substitute names and direction of solider views to accomplish this in a general sense. Lucas achieves this feat by telling personal tales, or at least focusing attention on small units within the larger unit and theatre contexts.
Storming Eagles contains lucid descriptions of the Fallschirmjaeger actions that most will be familiar with (e.g., the drop on Crete in '41), as well as lesser know para-ops (e.g., ****). Yet, the largest portion of the book is devoted to ground actions (no drop or glider troop delivery) of the Jaeger forces, since Hitler concluded early in the War that airborne ops was not efficient use of manpower (much like much of the Allied high command throughout the war) and thus used his elite troops as 'fire-brigades' wherever needed to plug holes or stem Allied pushes. Again it is not hard when reading such accounts to imagine one is reading about Allied airborne forces as those forces were also used as 'fire-brigades' (re: Bastogne during the Ardennes counteroffensive), although certainly not as frequently. As the War proceeded more and more infantry were needed as replacements for dwindling manpower in both Allied and Axis camps, so it should not be that surprising that both commands looked to there elite paratroopers as a source of battle-worthy infantry grunts; better trooper were fighting in ground actions then sitting idle in embarkation camps awaiting airborne ops that never materialized. Lucas gives a good accounting of Jaeger actions throughout the war, a task not made easy by the fact that Hitler chose to utilize these troops piecemeal rather than as whole Divisional units. Hence, the story Lucas presents is one that required rather painstaking research to track down para groups when they were integrated into a variety of Wehrmacht and SS formations scattered in operations from the Middle East, to the Western and Eastern fronts, and actions near the Artic Circle. Lucas' efforts should be lauded, certainly the reader gains from his hard work!
In the end, Storming Eagles is a very solid read worthy of picking up even if one is not especially interested in German paratroops during WWII. This book is valuable for a multitude of reasons and is pure military history fun. 4.5 stars.
German Paratroops--Fallshirmjager Units.......2005-06-30
Having a dozen & more WWII books on the shelf by James Lucas, you could say that I do enjoy his books. I trust his research and scholarship whenever he writes about the WWII era.
This present volume, originally published in 1988 by Arms and Armour Press, is now available in a lower priced Cassell paperback war classic.
These tough, well trained men who wore the Parachutist's jump badge of the silver wreath with the golden eagle descending, were some of Germany's finest special forces groups. From 1935 through 1945, these men were generally in the thick of combat wherever the Reich needed them most. And from the 1940 assault on Eben Emael and the invasion of Crete in 1941 onward they took on the patina and glimmer of a hard, tough fighting group. In the final days of 1945 when the British were assaulting the Westwall and Reichswald, the "bloody para boys" were the ones they least wanted to face. These hardened troops also saw action in the key theatres of North West Europe, North Africa, and on the Eastern Front.
James Lucas covers all aspects of this specialized group of men from 1940 through 1945, and does it pretty much in historical order. Hardly a page in this book exists without photographs (hardcover edition) and the maps are excellent, too.
Should you have interest in any of the special forces of the Reich, especially these fallshirmjagers, then this book is one you must see.
A comprehensive review.......2003-01-03
Lucas provides a comprehensive review of the action of the german fallschirmaeger in WW-II, probably one of the better currently available in English. Good section on Crete in particular. Does have sympathy with his subject, but this doesn't make it pro-Nazi (unless you are of the view that all German soldiers were Nazi's), just pro-german (or pro Fallschirmaeger). Doesn't deal with the establishment or organisation of troops but gets quickly into the action. Well worth the read.
Great stories and info on German airborne troops.......2002-01-24
This book is simply great. It gives a combination of personal stories and information on all the battles german Fallschirmjaegers were involved in. In every battle he gives a great overview and than the Germans and Allies situations. Than deeply summarizes what all the German paratroopers did in the battle. And than gives great personal accounts. Well done.

Book Description
Forbidding peaks, resourceful commandos, beautiful spies, nonstop action, and neck-snapping plot twists make this the classic adventure thrillerthe kind of page-turner that readers actually will find impossible to put down. A team of British Special Forces commandos parachutes into the high peaks of the Austrian Alps with the mission of stealing into an invulnerable alpine castleaccessible only by aerial gondolathe headquarters of Nazi intelligence. Supposedly sent in to rescue one of their own, their real mission turns out to be a lot more complicatedand the tension climbs as team members start to die off, one by one. Written by Alistair Maclean, author of the Guns of Navarone, this is the novel that set the pace for the modern action thriller (the film version, with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, also helped), and it still packs twice the punch of most contemporary best-selling thrillers. What's more, the cast of spooks, turncoats, and commandos who drive this story are more relevant than ever in our new era of special forces, black ops, and unpredictable alliances.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
An important Allied general with knowledge of upcoming large-scale war theatre plans is captured. A seat of the pants mission is put together to try and get him back. Failing that, to kill him.
This is a joint American-British spook operation, so those doing the dirty work find out that all is not as it seems.
A Thrilling Novel.......2006-12-04
Alistair MacLean is one of my favorite novelists, and this is my favorite novel by him. The setting is World War II, and a team of seven (or is it eight) double-agents are sent to rescue a kidnapped actor (who is assumed to know something) from a castle in a mountain, accessible by cable cars.
This novel keeps you guessing, at the edge of your seats. The ending is the best one I've read by MacLean (I find his endings to be a weakness as a whole).
Convoluted WWIIadventure .......2006-10-12
Alistair MacLean proves himself to be an accomplished storyteller despite not being in possession of classic literary writing skills as demostrated in his taut, adventure thriller, "Where Eagles Dare". Noteworthy was how closely the movie based on the book stuck to the plot.
A group of commandos who had recently been chained to desks is mobilized by the British high command for a clandestine mission behind enemy lines. A group of eight lead by British espionage officer Major Smith has been airlifted to the Bavarian Alps to rescue American Lt. General Carnaby who is being held by the Nazis. The general is imprisoned in Gestapo headquarters in Schloss Alder, the castle of the eagle, atop Weissspitze, Germany's second highest peak. The general is purported to be an important orchestrator of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Europe.
Major Smith, an agent previously assigned to Italy, is aided by American Lt. Schaeffer, a young but wily OSS officer. Together with the rest of the group they must penetrate the formidable defenses of the heavily garrisoned Schloss Adler before the general can be made to talk.
In a plot replete with surprises and startling twists MacLean leads his heroes through a veritable minefield of problems, the least of which being a harrowing cable car ride to the top of the wind buffeted mountain. While the dialogue between characters is at time ridiculously contrived, the fast, exciting pace of the novel more than makes up for that. MacLean proves to be a master of the double and triple cross in this engaging book.
A poor effort...........2006-03-15
I read this as a thirteen year old boy and enjoyed it. A re-read twenty years later gave me a different perspective. MacLeans dialogue between his characters is comic book variety at best. There are also a few glaring errors that I am surprised that his editor did not pick up on, two of note: Shaffer (supposedly from Montana) is credited with a Mid-West accent?? Montana is far west not 'mid' west. Secondly, Nazi helicopters? This is just plain sloppy. MacLean should have known much better.
This one belongs on the bookshelf of a teenage boy. For a better read of MacLeans better works I reccomend; HMS Ulysess and Bear Island. The characters are far more credible and provide a better story by far. A poor effort by Mr MacLean.
High Adventure in the Bavarian Alps.......2006-01-31
"Where Eagles Dare" may be author Alistair Maclean's best known novel, thanks to the exciting movie version starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. The novel, in this case, is even better than the movie.
Eight Allied agents parachute into the snowy Bavarian Alps deep inside Nazi Germany. Their hastily-organized mission is to rescue a captured American general from a practically inaccessible castle before he can be tortured into revealing the plans for the D-Day invasion. Their nearly suicidal mission is made infinitely more complicated by the quick discovery that someone on the team is a traitor.
What follows is a succession of hair-raising, white knuckle adventures as the team struggles to enter the castle, rescue the general, identify the traitor or traitors, and escape Germany. "Where Eagles Dare" is Maclean in his prime, providing a challenging and suspenseful plot whose last twists come in the very last scene. The dialogue is brisk, sardonic, and occasionally humorous. The team leader, Major Smith, and his deputy, Lieutenant Schaffer are the archtypal buddy team, easily outdoing their counterparts in the movie.
This novel lacks some of the emotional punch found in Maclean's earlier novels such as "The Guns of Navarone" but excels in MacLean's clear mastery of his craft as a entertaining story-teller. The descriptions of Bavaria add the necessary sense of place to each scene, well-supported by a tautly drawn supporting cast of characters.
This book is highly recommended to fans of Alistair Maclean and to those looking for a very enjoyable reading experience.

Intrigue of Flying into the Unknown.......2006-04-10
The book is a jewel and must read for all aviation enthusiasts. It also covers a vast rich history of Alaskan wilderness rural life in the middle to late 20th century. Rudy aquaints the reader with many early aviation pioneers and insite to the contributions for the war effort the civilian pilots made during WWII in Alaska.
When starting to read this great true life adventure, prepare yourself for first class entertainment and a view into a segment of interesting recent American History.

Historical Fiction Book Review.......2007-03-16
Bombing! Bombing! Find shelter, run for your life! There are twin boys named Harry and Max Kelso who fought in World War II. Growing up, their father, Jack Kelso, was a fighter pilot for the United States. After their father dies in a car accident, their mother and grandfather decide to split the boys apart. Max would go with his mother to live in Germany and Harry would stay with his grandfather in Boston. Both brothers grow up to be fighter pilots just like their father. Surprisingly, Max becomes a pilot for Germany, and Harry for Britain. After Harry is captured by Nazi troops, Max decides to rescue his twin brother. I recommend this book to teenagers who love to read historical fiction novels.
One reason why I enjoyed reading this book is because it kept me on my toes. For example, when Max and Harry fly out at the same time and almost demolish each other's planes. Also, when Max begins to bomb British bases where Harry is located, I was petrified that he would kill his own brother. In addition, Harry is captured by the Nazi forces and is put into jail. I was really afraid that Max and Harry would never be able to see each other again.
This historical fiction book makes you feel as though you are living every moment of the characters' lives. Like during Jack Kelso's funeral, you could feel the grief from the family. In addition, when the two brothers are separated as teenagers, I could feel the disappointment and the melancholy in each of the brothers' hearts. Last, Harry destroys three planes that have to make emergency landings. I felt his determination and concentration in trying to be an incredible fighter pilot just his father.
Finally, this book teaches you a great deal of historical knowledge about World War II. For instance, it explains what it was like to live in Britain and Germany during that time. Also, it describes how much training it took to become a fighter pilot. In addition, the novel helps you to learn what it was like to have bombs falling from the sky where you live and always having to be on alert. Not only does this book tell a story, it also provides numerous World War II facts.
Flight of Eagles is a remarkable book to read. It is adventurous and fast paced. Also, it provides a great description of the World War II time period. It's astonishing and tells a significant story of two caring twin brothers. Any teenager interested in historical fiction books should read Flight of Eagles.

Awesome WWII Story.......2006-08-26
Jack Higgins tells the amazing story of Max and Harry Kelso, identical twin brothers of German-American descent. In World War I, their father, Jack Kelso, flew for the Royal British Flying Corps. He fell in love with his German nurse, Baroness Elsa Von Halder, while hospitalized after his plane was shot down, and married her and sent her to live with his father in the United States. She bore him twins Max and Harry, and after Jack's death wanted to return to Germany with them. The boys' grandfather was rather fond of them and talked Elsa into leaving the younger twin in the United States with him, so Harry was raised as an American, and Max became Baron Von Halder in Germany. Both boys loved to fly as much as their father had, and when World War II broke out, Harry volunteered for the RAF while Max climbed the ranks in the Luftwaffe. Over the years, Max and Harry crossed paths a few times, sometimes unwittingly, until suddenly their combined fates have an impact on the outcome of the war. By Harry's side throughout the story is Tarquin the teddy bear, dressed in a flight suit and wearing pilot's wings. Tarquin flew with Jack Kelso on every flight in the First World War, and took up his post in the cockpit again during the Second World War with Harry. It is enigmatic Tarquin who sets off the events in this story.
Though time is not taken to delve deeply into the thoughts and feelings of the characters, the story is so compelling, and so well-woven, it didn't really matter. I came to care about everyone in this story, especially the heartbreaking Kelso twins. The story moves from Harry's life and contacts in Britain to Max and Elsa's story in Germany in such a way that I practically felt I was there. The whole time the story ambles along, events are in motion on both sides of the war that slowly, inexorably come to a head. By that time, the pages were turning themselves.
This is the first novel by Mr. Higgins that I have read, and I will definitely be reading more. Putting a unique perspective on World War II and the people involved in it from the top brass to the barmaids who serve them on both sides, both big and small characters alike come to life while history unfolds from the cockpit of a fighter plane. This is an excellent book for World War II buffs and action fans alike.
Pleasantly dull.......2006-04-27
I'm not a great writer so I'm a little reluctant to criticize someone else but this was really a dull read. I felt like the author wrote it over a weekend, between walking the dog and dining with friends. Don't get me wrong, there's something about WWII espionage-type books that pull me in, and I enjoyed sections of this one, but the shallow characters and unbelievable story (why, exactly, were all these generals and assorted bigshots always so eager to allow Harry Kelso into their cirle?) made me feel as though the author never really tried very hard. By the time I was 2/3 of the way through the book I was very happy I had got at the library and not spent money on it.
Flight of the Eagles.......2005-05-17
This was absolutely the best book I have ever read. I can read and 350 page book and be done with it in about a day, but this book was different. I could not set this book down. I read it in the morning, in school, at home, and in bed. I felt like I was living the story as I read page after page. From the very beginning, the pages were packed with excitement, adventure, true facts about WWII, and a little romance mixed in. I loved this book so much, I read it 5 times, and wrote 3 reports about it for school. If you are looking for a good read, this is most definantly the book for you.

I think this book was good book because it firsts takes place in 1997 when Higgens and his wife survive a plane crash in the English channel, then it jumps in to world war2 and Higgens is a ww2 polit.and lots of thing happen to him. I recomend Flight Of Eagles to anyone looking for a world war2 action book and this book also many twists and turns to keep you reading to the end
