In celebration of the amateur artists across the U.S. who emerge each December to make holiday canvases of their homes, Merry Christmas America presents about 100 nighttime photos of houses and yards transformed into holiday wonderlands. Many are outrageously tacky or garish, others are sparsely elegant; all are an appealing tribute to the American folk-art tradition of bringing the holiday spectacle into the front yard.
Book Description
You already have a very well-written entry for this book on your website.
Add: color photographs of great Christmas yard displays from all across the United States.

Maybe The Greatest Christmas Book.......2007-01-19
This book is a wonderful christmas book, perhaps the most wonderful christmas book there is.
If you want a real christmas mood book, one that should really help you get into the spirit of the season, then look no further.
The wonderful pictures capture christmas and it's many displays throughout America. This is a very warm christmas book, one that is perfect for the coffee table for you and any visiting friends and family to enjoy over the christmas holidays.
Especially makes a great gift for those who like christmas displays.
I can't say enough great things about this book. Well, except for........ just get it!!!!!!!
Inspiring Light Displays.......2003-11-13
So far this is the only photo book I could find that focuses on Christmas light displays. The author/photographer does a great job showing some amazingly large Christmas light displays, as well as smaller uniquely decorated homes too. It's a lot of fun to browse through. I just wish there were a hardback edition available to put on my coffee table at Christmas time.
Deck those halls!.......1997-11-13
An exuberant tribute to the American passion for outdoor decorating at Christmas, this photographic collection is as good as bundling the family in the car to cruise the neighborhood displays. It just might inspire you to leave your Christmas lights up year round.

Customer Reviews:
I love it.......2007-01-10
Christmas is already a happy time of the year, but Jim Brickman just makes it better. When I play his music it makes me feel like a concert pianist. He has an amazing way of filling in empty spaces to make any song complete. I would recommend this to anyone who has a good grasp of the piano.
Great Piano Songs.......2005-10-08
I like all the songs and most of all the unique arrangement by Jim Brickman himself. It's just like bringing and listening Jim Brickman to our home. Though it needs a lot of practice to master each songs, I love every bit of it and enjoy playing it in the comforts of my home. For those who are fond of piano songs and instrumental, this is a must have. Also, I would like to appreciate my shopping with amazon.com which has been great and easy for me especially the free shipping. Sure enough, I would be shopping with them again in the future. Thank you.

Christmas just got a little sweeter.......2005-08-05
This book contains all the favorites of Christmas with the romantic touch of Jim Brickman's beautiful arrangements. Its melodies are sure to bring a little more heart to an already beautiful season.
beautifully arranged.......2000-03-29
This book, although it only contains 5 songs, is a nice addition to any piano players' library, as it contains beautifully arranged Christmas pieces. These popular "Christmas Themes" would be ideal for background music and are relatively easy to play because there are few sharps and flats to worry about. I have enjoyed playing the songs and hope that the composer releases more books soon!
Customer Reviews:
Great imagery; a terrific inspiration.......2005-06-20
This book is full of ideas and inspiration. If you are looking for step-by-step banner solutinos, this isn't it, but if you want some great imagery and some useful ideas for decorating a church, this book is a treasure.
The best non-traditional book........2004-06-15
I loved this book. It helped me decorate my church in a non-traditional way. Banners can be so boring and two dimensional, the ideas in this book made those days very memorable.
Pathetic!!.......2004-02-14
No usable designs for banners. Just random drawings of butterflies, balloons, windsocks, flowers. I wasted my money.
Book Description
They glimmer. They shimmer. They bask in the glow of gently rotating color wheels. They last forever. Aluminum Christmas trees are the most spectacular souvenirs of our most recent Christmas Past-the Christmases of the super-modern 1960s. In more than 60 lush color photographs, Season's Gleamings reveals the fantastic diversity of aluminum trees-from green-foil tabletop models to majestic pink seven-footers-making it the perfect gift for lovers of Christmases both real and artificial.
Customer Reviews:
Cute book.......2006-01-15
I only wish they put more pictures of the trees. I remember much more different colors than what is in the book.
I had a turquoise aluminum tree, with lime green bulbs, purple bulbs, silver bulbs, and turquoise. It was so pretty. I would have liked to see more color, and more trees.
A Book That Sparkles and Shines.......2004-11-23
If you are a child of the early 60s like me, or just someone who appreciates great photography, then you will love this sweetly nostalgic look at aluminum Christmas trees. Season's Gleamings is full of beautiful color photos showing the amazing variety of trees available at the time: small silver tabletop models, giant gold seven-footers, trees festooned with period ornaments, and others shimmering in the glow of rotating color wheels. I loved flipping through the pages of this book and being reminded of the Christmases of my childhood. I highly recommend it as a gift for family and friends, or as a holiday coffee table book for your own home. Wonderful!
Deeper Than the Tinsel.......2004-11-17
Season's Gleamings begs you to look deeper than the tinsel, into the heart of small town America laid waste by the broken promises of wartime prosperity. It would be a shame if this book were relegated merely to the kitsch Christmas section of bookstores all over America. This is an ode to small town America and the secrets and memories that it holds as seen through the eyes of the documentary photographers J. Shimon and J. Lindemann, chroniclers of the ashes of the American dream. Not a nostalgic tribute to the Sears or Montgomery-Ward Christmas catalog but an adult tale that begs the reader to participate. For example, "Foot Massage Christmas", (page 23), shows a pair of spiked heels and a 1950s style vibrator upstaging a "seven foot, one-hundred branch, Star Brand Company Sparkler Pom-Pom Aluminum Christmas tree with a dozen shiny bright ornaments"-ho-ho-ho! "Insomnia" (page 59) depicts the seamy underside of a Normal Rockwell Christmas. Finally, "Nursing Home Christmas" on the cover of the book, reminds the reader of the hopes that the aluminum industry gave to small town Manitowoc, Wisconsin and the nothing they yielded. Perhaps this book, with its scathing insights crafted by two of Manitowoc's own children, is one of the best vestiges of the proud wartime industry of Manitowoc and of small towns all over America. These artists have accomplished something both mystical and haunting by documenting a past that dies a little bit every day.
Ooo SG I love you dressed that way.......2004-11-13
Possibly the first book on the subject, this seasonal consumer-oriented photo art book resurrects and celebrates the ready-made art of the aluminum Christmas tree. Mass-produced to satisfy consumer tastes beginning about 1959, these tinselly beauties became passé in the mid-60's, but were later rescued from thrift store and garage sale by retro hipsters like Shimon & Lindemann. Better known for hand-crafted photographic studies using antiquarian techniques, Shimon & Lindemann teamed up with innovative Melcher Media for this exacting re-evaluation. The result is a compact project whose ostentatious packaging might have degraded the unremitting Pictorialist control the artists bring to their main body of work. Fortunately, Shimon and Lindemann respond to the motif of manufactured beauty with a supple ordering of Duchampian wit, pop art ironies and straight-up pictorial portraiture. Among my faves: In "Christmas Alone" religious and secular ironies are layered by dual focal points of aluminum treetop angel and a humble repast of instant coffee and popcorn; authentic period objects re-enforce the theme of the legacy of aluminum. "Viewing 1961 in 1959" in 2004, as the title clumsily suggests, leans heavily on anachronistic concept yet achieves an attractive combo of color and composition with various objects, including a working 1958 Philco Predicata Penthouse television. "P.P.'s family tree.." is planar, analytical. Twenty-five blue Shiny Brite ornaments and, seemingly, behind them, a scraggly Craft House Fairyland Pink Tree weightlessly occupy an off-white emptiness of space. Seasons Gleamings contextualizes the aluminum Christmas tree craze with two serviceable essays, one a sort of memoir by the artists and a second, by Brooklyn-based writer, Tom Vanderbilt. Seasons Gleaming would make an excellent gift or coffee table trapping for the Christmas season. Those who are unfamiliar with or uninterested in art and aluminum Christmas trees may not fully appreciate it, but rich packaging, like endpapers containing technical drawings from original patents, and a cover with the title spelled out in enormous silver reflective ink font will catch the eye of even your boorish and ancient Yuletide guests.

Book Description
Anyone fortunate enough to have spent time in New York during the holiday seasonhas warm memories of being mesmerized by the spectacular window displays throughout the city. Even the most jaded New Yorker, wearied by work and the holiday crush, cannot help but slow their frenzied pace to gaze at the sights and sounds of these wondrous displays.
Now, for the first time, displays from the early 1900s to today are gathered in one keepsake volume. Organized by decade, brimming with archival black-and-white and color photography, this book commemorates the unique art of window design, from the traditional Victorian windows to the avant-garde. Displays from classic New York City stores, like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany & Co., Henri Bendel, and Barneys, are all included-as well as displays from stores no longer in operation but fondly remembered by many, like Ohrbach's, Gimbel's, B.Altman, and Arnold Constable.
This unique book features a die-cut, cloth case and four die-cut "windows" inside to recreate the experience of gazing at a display window.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing!.......2007-09-19
Such a promising premise and such a disappointing book. Not only are the photos substandard, this book also fails to capture the spirit of Christmas in New York. I would return it if I could. Try to see a copy before you decide to buy.
Christmas in New York.......2007-09-05
My wife loves this book - she says it would put anyone in the Christmas Spirit. My wife and daughter love to walk the streets of New York at Chrismas time and check out all the intricately decorated window displays!! Great History on the tradition of all the window displays!!!
Billy Wannyn
A Most Beautiful Christmas Book.......2007-01-19
This book is one of the most beautiful christmas books I have, maybe even the most beautiful.
This is the perfect book to put on your coffee table for the enjoyment of your guests (and yourself) for over the christmas holidays. The pictures are just amazing and really have sharp detail that really enhances the christmas mood.
And the plastic cut-out windows, 4 of them, really add an extra amount of 'beautiful' to this most perfect christmas book. These cut-out windows can actually be used on both sides of the pages and give you the appearance of 8 christmas window displays.
Not only would I recommend you get this book for yourself but also as gifts for others who enjoy the wonderful images of christmas.
A huge, 5 out of 5 star christmas book!
Give us More!.......2006-12-29
This book whetted my appetite for more...can it be a series? .....with perhaps focus, per volume, on one store, or one city, or one decade/era per book? Also, Bigger Pages = Bigger photos please!
Lord and Taylor's windows alone would be a great volume!
The only thing I didn't care for were the non-holiday themed windows like Barneys, some Bendel etc..........and the 4 plastic page clear "windows" ...which just, to me, don't add a lot, but do take up space in the book.
I hope there is a new volume next year!
Sublime!.......2000-12-04
This is the PERFECT book which incorporates all that is New York, Christmas and wonderful! Finally with this book out on the market there is no need to travel to see the windows, it's all in one precious bound beauty! This must be part of everyone's gift giving repertoire!
Book Description
When his family's Christmas tree stand collapsed, shattering their collection of 2,000 vintage European glass ornaments, Christopher Radko suffered a double loss. Not only were the irreplaceable treasures gone, but with them vanished a tangible link to past holidays and warm memories of family and friends. Searching for replacements, he realized they were difficult to find, and began a business that almost single-handedly revived the all-but-forgotten European tradition of mouth-blown, hand-painted glass ornaments. Now hundreds of these "memories in the making," as Christopher calls them, are on display in
Christopher Radko's Ornaments, the first book devoted to all fourteen years of his delightful designs.
Each chapter is dedicated to a different category of ornament, from traditional styles to new ones inspired by the world's far-flung cultures, from jolly representations of Santa in all his guises to charming depictions of people, food, and animals of holiday lore. Throughout the book, sidebars offer an array of Christopher's own tips on how to light and trim a tree and decorate the entire house with ornaments, as well as fascinating information on the ornaments themselves. Lavishly illustrated with more than 275 full-color photographs and packed with personal anecdotes,
Christopher Radko's Ornaments captures the heart of Christmas and encourages us to celebrate its message of giving and caring, one ornament at a time.
Customer Reviews:
Great illustrations, excellent information.......1999-09-23
CHRISTOPHER RADKO'S ORNAMENTS tells the history of Radko and his ornament business. Almost single-handedly, according to author Olivia Bell Buehl, Radko brought back the mouth-blown, hand-painted ornaments back to the American Chrstmas tree. Any one who collects Christmas tree ornaments, or who would like to will find this book informative. Each chapter describes one aspect of the design and manufacture of ornaments. Illustrations are used thematically in each chapter. These include Santa Claus, snowmen, and finials. Each ornament is listed in the index by name and serial number, to allow a reader to find it on the primary or secondary market. Ideas for the ligting of the tree, use of ornaments in bowls, on mantles, around pictures or windows fill the book with ideas which a person could decorate any room, even a hospital room for the bed bound at Chrstmas time. The information is concise, though the writing style tends not to be as exacting, depending on the paraphrased quote, rather than the author's own thoughts. Anyone who enjoys Christmas ornaments, who enjoys Christmas, and who wants some new and different decorating ideas should add this book to their library.

Book Description
Before achieving fame and glory as a leading Pop artist, Andy Warhol was a successful commercial artist who contributed illustrations to women's magazines and designed windows and promotional materials for department stores. Among his clients was Tiffany & Co., for whom he created a series of designs for holiday greeting cards. The whimsical drawings and paintings he produced for Tiffany's Christmas cards are the subject of this charming gift book.
Exuberant cherubs and acrobats, a reindeer snacking on watermelon, a playful monkey dangling an ornament from its tail, a gold-embossed Nativity, a high-heeled red ankle boot stuffed with holly, and Santa's sleigh packed with presents are among the 50 black-and-white and color illustrations featured here. In his preface, John Loring, Tiffany's design director, recounts the artist's working relationship with the famed luxury retailer through entertaining anecdotes and quotes from those who knew Warhol. Andy's own bon mots about Christmas, sprinkled throughout the book, add to the appeal of this sweetly irreverent confection. AUTHOR BIO: John Loring, Tiffany's design director for the past 25 years, is the author of this season's Greetings from Andy: Christmas at Tiffany's and seven previous Abrams books, including Tiffany in Fashion, Tiffany Flora & Fauna, Louis Comfort Tiffany at Tiffany & Co. , and Tiffany's 20th Century. He lives in New York City.
