Sew many Books! Sew little time!.......2007-09-26
I got the Sew Fast Sew Easy book and loved it so I bought this book also. It was cheaper than some of the others and well worth it. I had a really good time doing the projects in this book and learned some more on tailoring and heming. This would be a great gift for anyone who likes to get creative and mess around.

I'm learning to sew and have found the most fabulous books. This is one of my favorites. It's no B.S. Other books I have show how to construct garments but this book is really good at explaining how to do more of the basic sewing and tailoring skills. I now know how to reconstruct my clothes to fit better and to make more original stuff. I don't look like my outfit came right off the rack at the Gap. You have to crawl before you can run and this book will get you through crawling and walking and into running. I'm a big fan of Rip It!. Here are some other books that have been realy helpful:

There are lots of good books about sewing available, for every skill level and fortunately this is one of the great ones. This book does a great job being "hip" and "trendy". The illustrations are done very well and are clear to understand. The ideas in this book are creative and original. You'll be glad you grabed this book. Also check out the Sew Fast Sew Easy book.

I recieved a copy of Sew Fast Sew Easy from Amazon on Friday. I'm a patternmaker and I bought the book since it seemed like the best one for my grandaughter. I looked it over and liked what I saw. It's right on with appropriate beginner projects. The goal is to encourage, not discourage their efforts (with projects beyond them) so they'll enjoy creating and keep sewing! This Rip It! book also has great projects for beginners to develop their sewing skills more.

I also own the Sew Fast Sew Easy book and then bought the Rip It book. They go hand in hand. I'm planning a trip to NYC soon and am going to take an intermediate sewing class at Sew Fast Sew Easy. I'm looking forward to learning more from the woman who wrote these wonderful sewing books. I recomend both of these great books for any level of sewing.

Lovely to look at, lovely to hold.... but that is about it! Whereas the photographs are masterful, there is little beyond the pictures, not even a rudimentary, cursory, or trifling insight or inspiration. One does expect something after all from a living room tome. It is truly the book that doesn't even begin to give. I am glad I purchased this book used as I would have felt used and abused to have paid full price for this creativity bypass and abyss.

The designers showcased have marvelous taste, but there is nothing here that was impressive. The book is beautifully photographed, but that's about it. My suggestion-Wait until it's on clearance or borrow it from the library. C+
Ho-Hum- Another coffee table book.......2002-02-22
As someone who was looking for exciting new design and especially from a woman's perspective, I was not wowed by this book. Instead I got good pictures but little depth. I can pick up any magazine today and see the same thing. Not very interesting or inspiring.
A fabulous book - and useful to boot!.......2001-08-28
i love design books, but truthfully, some are way too far out there for my tastes - and then some are ho-hum and uninformative. this is a really, really great book - not only are the designers extremely interesting individuals - but their personal tastes are actually out there for the taking. i might not have loved each of their homes - but i loved the fact that THEY loved them! also great about this book - and maybe my favorite part (aside from the TERRIFIC photos - wow) are the super great hints each designer gives at the end of her segment - they are actual USEABLE and DOABLE!

As an architect dealing with spectacular spaces and inspirational forms & materials designing my own home, the 5 stars on this lead me to say, "OK, let's get to interior design". I have to add my evaluation to prevent others from thinking this is fabulous. I found it so ordinary and uninspiring I was flabergated by the reviews I had read. I am glad there are women out there designing, and each to her own taste, but I found little here. It is the first book I have ever returned to Amazon.

I really enjoy books by Jill Briscoe. She is very gifted and has a lot of practical advice. My big problem with this book is that it is geared towards large churches. As Women's Ministry Leader in a church of 250, I found that this book offered little to help me. Not all churches have thousands of people attending!

I was the women ministry leader of my church back in 2000. Trying to find out ways to improve the existing ministry at that time; I ran into this resource book. The book was well organized and provided much information to lead a women ministry in any size. I still read it every once in a while. If you are priviledged to lead a women ministry, this book is a prayer-answered.

Wow, whatta awesome book! I've been a Christian for many years and have read MANY books on godly living, however this has to be one of my favorites. The authors do a great job of scripturally backing up their points and giving practical ways you can begin to evaluate your lifestyle and heart, and setting goals. I bought this book about 4 years ago. Every page makes you think long and hard about you and your unique relationship with God. The focus was wholeheartedly on Him, and on how you play into His plans. Since doing this study, I have more purpose, more passion and more determination to follow only His plan for my life.
I reviewed what I had written in this study book recently, and almost every word has been proven true or is an even deeper passion in me now.
I cannot recommend this book more to anyone who wants to shape their life into His hands and His steps alone.

I just led this book with a group of high school girls. I modified some of the questions for them, but it was an great book for them to discover their worth and purpose as young Christian women.

If you are going through a time of transition or know of a woman who is, this is the perfect book to help chart the course for the future. Judith's transparency made it so much easier to take a good close look at my own life and my fears about the future. All I am hearing about are churches who are bringing Judith Couchman in to do retreats/seminars on this book and its Bible study.

Unlike many Christian books written for women, this book is written for today's women (not those of my mom's generation). It is a breath of fresh air. I found it deeply challenging, thought-provoking and practical. If you are in a time of transition, don't take another step without this book and the companion Bible study that goes with it. All I am hearing about are churches and other groups doing seminars on this book and the study. After reading it, I can see why it is the big rage.
