Skin is In!!!.......2007-05-29
From cover to cover this book is full of usefull knowledge. You can search by actress, movie, or tv show. I purchased this book for my brothers birthday. I even had to buy my own copy.
Decent book, but the website is incredible!.......2006-04-10
This book is decent enough, but not the Skincyclopedia it claims to be. As others have said, it is not kept up to date, and doesn't have complete listings including times. Mr. Skin's website, however, is the absolute ultimate! For simple reference, it's absolutely free and complete resource constantly updated. For a fee, it will give you film clips and still photos of all the scenes mentioned!
So, this is a very basic reference, but the website is the ultimate guide.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!.......2006-03-20
THOUGHT IT WOULD BE PICTURES BUT IT WAS JUST A SOURCE OF WHERE TO FIND THE FILMS AND PICTURES AND SO ON.
worthwhile actress resource.......2006-03-02
If you ever wanted to know, this is the book to find out.
Easy to read,concise resource.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!.......2005-11-19
Not sure where to start and I don't want to write to see how i write. Mr. Skin must be getting commissions on the orders readers make per his recos. He and his group don't see "naked" with the same criteria. Some descriptions are understated, most are overstated.

Written by Gulzar, Shyam Benegal, Lalit Mohan Joshi, among many other experts on the Industry, Bollywood, Popular Indian Cinema is the ultimate guide to the most popular of Indian cinema. A gripping analysis of the last 100 years is provided by the book's editor, Lalit Mohan Joshi. It covers the long Indian film history including rarely seen images from film archives together with those by leading photographers. This is the one book that every Hindi movie lover should own.
It celebrates what is now a far-reaching and world-renowned cultural phenomenon with 400 pages of the most spectacular photographs, the stories of the stars who make the films, in-depth stories of every great Hindi film and its context, unmatched production quality and brilliant writing.
Customer Reviews:
You have to have this book!.......2003-05-02
This book has everything you could ever want in a book about Bollywood. The pictures are amazing, the text, written by the likes of Gulzar and Shyam Benegal is brilliant, and the physical quality of the book is so great you'd be proud to show it off. It is a must have for anyone remotely interested in Indian Cinema.
The book is pleasant surprise after seeing the fluff in the new release 'Bollywood Dreams'. Am relieved I chose this one.
Must have!.......2002-12-26
I was thrilled to know that a book was out on the market about Bollywood. Some of the other books were quite boring but this one will definitely stay on my coffee table.
Even though I am glad I bought the book I was a bit dissappointed to find actors, actresses and movies not mentioned but I guess if they really wanted to talk about 100 years, the book would probably be about 1000+ pages. This book is about 350pgs but I still think its worth having just for the quality.
Book Description
Movie buffs and beefcake fans alike will enjoy delving into Michael Ferguson’s new book IDOL WORSHIP: A Shameless Celebration of Male Beauty in the Movies, a lively, well-researched, and bawdy guide to the careers of 91 hot actors whom readers will want to take to bed…or at least rent for the night.
Customer Reviews:
a celebration of beefcake.......2007-03-13
A walk through history with some of the hottest men ever to grace the silver screen from the silent era through to the present day. Author Michael Ferguson celebrates approximately 90 Hollywood Hunks. Its not meant to be a serious biography of each star represented, rather an irreverent overview of their appeal to gay men and straight women alike.
I loved every page of it and time and time again agreed with the observations and choices.
great bring on volume 2.
Excellent.......2006-12-08
I really liked this book. As a film historian and writer and as one who has worked as a researcher for many authors, I will say that it is the only - and I mean this - the ONLY book that gives a balanced and accurate view of the highly exaggerated sex lives of some of our stars of the classic era. Ferguson seems to have gone back to the beginning of some of these stories and attempted to verify them rather than just adding on more fabrications as many books have. It's not a book for gay people necessarily, it's not a gossipy book nor written in a gossipy fashion.
A book for everyone.......2004-06-17
While at first glance this book may seem like it is only for the gay market, I have to tell you this is not so. As a hetro male who is into movies this book was everything I could hope for. Bravo to the author for the research done for this book, had to be a labor of love. Love old movies? Not me, until I read this book. Now I want to see Valentino's films. What sets this book apart from others is the authors's comments, always on target and usually funny. The author's own personal relanship with the actors and movies also makes this a great read - and every one will have someone they would rather have seen in this book - such is the joy of any list
A Labor of Love.......2004-04-25
Michael Ferguson's "Matinee Idol," subtitled "A Shameless Celebration of Male Beauty in the Movies," makes a fitting companion to Daniel and Jackson's "Bent Lens," not becuase it's about gay film, or even gays in film--it is not--but because it rewrties Hollywood history from the point of view of a gay (male) voyeur. The journey is fascinating. Along the way, Ferguson offers tantalizing insights into the fantasy side of movies, as well as into the public and private lives of the actors who make them. His choices run the gamut of hunks from Valentino to Tyrone Power, and Jan-Michael Vincent to Gael Garcia Bernal, with occasional forays into such related subjects as musclemen and porn stars. There are extra-long articles on some of Ferguson's favorites, including Matt Dillon, Keanu Reeves, and Brad Pitt, but he also takes the time to pay homage to the occasional wannabe, such as Jack Beutel and Rodney Harvey. The text has a tendency to go on too long, and Ferguson may at times appear overly obsessed with the pubic trail that leads from an actor's belly button into his speedo, but that's a minor quibble, and the kind of thing that will inevitably appeal to some readers. Worse is the writer's frequent misplacement of his modifiers (as here on Bernie Schwarz's metamorphosis into Tony Curtis: "Like virtually every other Jew in town, a name change was mandated and he became Jimmy Curtis") and his problems with parallelism (as in this iconoclastic comment regarding "Some Like It Hot": "The film has been deified as one of the greatest screen comedies ever despite not being very funny and my opinion thankfully won't diminish the love audiences and critics have for it." In addition, as in "Bent Lens," there is no index; there is, however, an appendix of sorts, which offers a credit each for a near-exhaustive list of actors, including many not treated in the main text. One criminal, and puzzling, omission, is George Nader, who was doubly interesting in that he was actually gay, in addition to being a pal of Rock Hudson's and a '50s beefcake favorite. But everyone is bound to have his/her quibbles on the point of omissions, a fact that argues, in true Hollywood fashion, for a sequel to the text. I, for one, would buy it.
ýQueer Eye view of the Movie Guysý.......2004-01-21
It's a fantastic read, a "Queer Eye view of the Movie Guys" for both guys and us gals! There are loads of interesting facts (obviously well researched), great tips on which movies your favorite guy will be found looking particularly sexy AND the book serves as a catalogue of new guys to try! If you love movie stars, gorgeous guys or an entertaining celebrity read that is actually literary, you've got to have this book. It will come in handy when you're trying to decide what video to rent next. It will be a reference book you'll want to keep next to the TV's remote in the bedroom!

Book Description
The "little black book" that's next to every studio executive's palm pilot-the real scoop on Hollywood's top 200 stars.Who's hot? Who's not? Who can green-light any project that they want? Who's begging for scraps? For years the film industry's elite have looked to James Ulmer's Hollywood Hot List to measure who was really worth a multimillion-dollar payday and who should be pasture-bound. Ulmer's star power rankings can change a star's salary-or even whether or not he or she gets a role. An actor's star power includes:Bankability: How the actor's name alone guarantees a sale up front in today's global marketplace.Career management: How well has the actor chosen roles to maximize career potential?Willingness to travel and promote: How cooperative is the actor in promoting projects?Professionalism: How reliable is the actor to work with, both on and off the set?Inside Dirt: The truth about what it's like to work with the top 200 actors worldwide.Box office bait: Who the actor has worked for and how much the project made.Ulmer's information is culled from those who work closely with the stars-their agents, co-stars, movie producers, directors, distributors, and personal assistants. The opinions of those in the know and the dollars a star can earn measure the true value of the actors in Hollywood. Find out who owns Tinseltown, who's just renting, and who's being evicted.
Customer Reviews:
You'd have to be a stone not to like this book ..........2002-06-03
Or maybe a Sharon Stone (she is not spared in these pages). Quite simply, this book is impossible to put down. James Ulmer's clever rating system is interesting enough in itself -- but the best part of the book is his personal stamp. He makes no bones about being star-struck, yet his mission is the demystification of the gods, and he does it with gimlet-eyed clarity and intelligence. A dirt-filled riff will turn on a phrase into a sharp insight into the celebrity cult and our fascination with it. Some of his observations of actors are priceless. My image of Marlon Brando struggling up the Brooklyn waterfront ramp will now forever be juxtaposed with him struggling up the aisle of an L.A. supermarket, dressed in a muumuu and eating from an as-yet-unbought gallon of Breyers ice cream. This is a great summer (or winter) read, but don't take it to anyplace where you're self-conscious about laughing out loud. Because you will.
Hot lists...hot book.......2000-11-22
The title only tells half the story. The lists are fun to browse (the 200 top stars), especially the inside dirt on each star. But the essays are really hilarious: weird twisted perks, gossip and insecurity, naughty inside references - a pretty amazing picture of business and culture in Hollywood, where Ulmer says nothing binds people together like money, tribal membership "and the desire to see your best friend fail." Yikes. This book definitely goes on my holiday gift list.
Dish the Dirt.......2000-11-08
For anyone who enjoys following the cult of celebrity -- go backstage with James Ulmer and find all of the behind-the-scenes gossip (ok really thruths) about today's biggest stars. Ulmer has been compiling this list for industry insiders for years and this is the first time he's published his info for the general public -- can't wait for the next installment!
Hollywood dish.......2000-10-04
It's fun and funny to see how the industry perceives itself, this book is a hoot. The information they based the ratings on is already outdated, (Russell Crowe's career trajectory arrow is going sideways? Hello?) but it's still worth the $$ for the essays, especially the one on star perks, (you will not believe the story about a certain actress and a baby opposum) and the "inside dirt" remarks.

An Actor's Guide--Making It in New York City
ASIN: 0823088944 |
Book Description
This celebrated survival guide for actors is still considered "the Bible of the Biz"-the most comprehensive book on the business of acting, informed by an inside view of how casting decisions are actually made-and it has now been updated and expanded to cover new on-line ways actors can promote their picture, rsum and video clips; interviewing and auditioning tips for the new crop of young actors; enhancing one's image; and finding jobs in emerging markets. Of course, the book still draws from dozens of industry professionals for authoritative advice on financial survival, networking, meeting agents and casting directors, the performing unions, selecting a wardrobe, studying a role-all the essential information actors have steadily relied on since 1987.

what to wear, where to park, what to do when you get there..........2006-07-15
'How to Be a Working Actor' is divided into three sections: Nuts & Bolts, The Breaks, and Script Analysis.
Even after being in "the biz' for a few years, I found the first 217 pages (Nuts & Bolts) to be super helpful and informative. It suggests some of the most effective ways to create an actor resume, flattering colors and clothing types to wear to an agent interview, and the best books and guides to read to find work. It also explores ways to create a website, average wages for various acting jobs, and the differences between NY, LA and other cities (when I read this book I didn't want to move from NY to LA because of "parking", but when I did make the move I found out it wasn't that bad!)
This book features tips from casting directors and talent agents, and, like Michael Bofshever's 'Your Face Looks Familiar: Journey of a Working Actor', anecdotes from professional actors.
Maybe I shouldn't be writing this stellar review, when I'm an actor myself, looking to hone my skills and career abilility like the next person. But I believe the universe gives back, and there's a role out there for all of us.
Good info for audition hunters.......2006-07-09
This book is very helpful for anyone seeking to land an audition - once inside the door, your own talent will carry you......or not. The book helps you get a foot in that doorway.
a good start.......2003-09-23
I read this book when I first decided to risk a career in acting several years ago. It was very helpful in that it covered all the basics (and not-so-basics) that I would need to learn: terminology, career steps, pitfalls, different industries and cities. I still occasionally refer to it.
Yes, it is a little outdated now, and I would imagine it's more useful to those in LA or NYC with its heavy focus on TV and film, but I appreciated the little section on acting in Chicago. All in all, its breadth makes it a good investment.
FYI, for Chicago actors (bless your hearts), be sure to pick up "The Book," published by the trade paper PerformInk. A great (and necessary) resource guide to acting in Chicago.
Good.......2002-12-28
I like this book but is has been around for a while.
There are a couple of new books out there that are as good or better,
depending on where you are in your career.
Check our Twelve Step Plan To Beciming an Actor in LA.
It is a fabulous guide for anyone breaking in the business.

Excellent Resource and Must-Have.......2002-09-21
A very straight-forward resource for any aspiring actor. Novice or otherwise, this book gives the inside scoop and is honest about it. As I'm not one to want to put myself out-on-a-limb (no pun intended) without some plan of action and notion of how to stay solvent, what I really like about this book is the author's ability to fill in all the practical details and guide the reader through "The Business." In this day and age, where scams abound in and around Tinsel Towne, I wouldn't leave home to pound the pavement without first having read this book. I can't say enough good things about it!

Book Description
Hollywood Remains to Be Seen is a fascinating, gossipy guide to the fourteen most significant Hollywood-era cemeteries and the final resting places of the movie stars who are buried in them. Arranged as an easy-to-follow tours of the properties, the fourteen chapters-one for each cemetery-include histories of the cemeteries, directions for finding them, and a detailed listing of exactly where more than three hundred stars, and a detailed listing of exactly where more than three hundred stars are buried.
Strange as it may seem, cemeteries are becoming one of the most popular destinations for tourists to Hollywood and for film fans who want to pay their respects to the rich and famous and passed-on. Every year, millions of people from all over the world visit the graves of the legendary film stars buried in Hollywood, and the interest in these places grows from year to year.
Hollywood Remains to Be Seen highlights the legend and lore of celebrity graves, from Rudolph Valentino's mysterious "Lady In Black" to the regular delivery of one red rose to Marilyn Monroe's grave, to the strange journeys made by the body of John Barry more immediately after his death in 1942- and again thirty-eight years later. Also included are information and images of Hollywood's most lavish and majestic graves, from the huge mausoleum of Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., complete with Roman pillars and giant reflecting pool; to Liberace's flamboyant tomb, with a musical score set on white marble; to the spectacular domed monument of Al Jolson, featuring a life-sized statue of the entertainer atop a 120-foot cascadin waterfall.
Heavily illustrated with nearly one hundred photographs, Hollywood Remains to Be Seen includes photographs of the celebrities as well as photographs of the cemeteries, mausoleums, and graves, maps of the burial grounds and gravesites, and a final section fitly titled "Exit Lines" made up of celebrities' last words.

His Final Resting Place........2006-08-26
He led a glorious life full of glamor and adoration for his host of fans. His ending, however, would make a movie to beat all. He was abandoned by everyone and ended up at his final resting place, the cemetery. Read about false memories and not actuality in a tome written to launch a career on the heels of:
Another Imposter on MYL : A Dutiful Daughter's Memories, August 12, 2006 I got too close to the truth for comfort and so had to find it on my web site about the shenanigans of the stars there who act like so much ____________ Now hear this: a fan's expose of what is really happening.
Dean Martin was successful in the Fifties as an actor, singer, t.v. show host and yet we young people back then though he was just a drunk. He was a member of the rat pack, not that that is saying a whole lot. Sinatra was a bigger lush than Dean could ever be, and all those wives of his! I do remember how he was fascinated with the lovely Lainie Kazan on his television music show, and perhaps that is what caused his divorce.
The author of this book has related how her 'mother's house' was next door to Rosemary Clooney. I guess Ira Gershwin lived on the other side of Rosie? I do remember that before the talented Dean died, he was living as a bum (like James Agee in New York), with a beard and same old clothes. There was no one to care for him in that condition. I ask you, where was this 'devoted' dauthter then? She is the second to make money off the deceased singer. First Jerry Lewis, after all of his tantrums and allegations, refusing to a reunion with Dean Martin. Now, the absent daughter who is using her dead father's fame as her own.
She has wormed herself into a slot on Music of Your Life, after first playing around with Les Brown, Jr. there in Branson, Missouri, getting to be top dog for two hours daily; now, she has her own weekend slot and all night on Sundays. Here is how she is described on their web site: Deana, who is an accomplished actor singer, entertainer and author, in addition to being the daughter of her famous father, has quickly become a Music of Your Life listener favorite with her great behind- the-scenes stories. Between concert and book tours, Deana produces the annual Dean Martin festival! When I was fifteen, I could sing just as well as she can. And to think that she collaborated on her CD (thanks to MYL) with Jerry Lewis, it's a sacrilege after all he did to her dad she supposedly is devoted to. With a daughter like that, who needs enemies. The writer of the book, DINO, shows how he died in virtual isolation. We all knew that. It's a sacrilege for anyone to make a fortune off a dead person who is not hear to tell the truth. Such is life today.

The Perfect Book For Celebrity Grave Hunters.......2005-06-11
If you're interested in visiting celebrity graves you must get this book. There are detailed directions and helpful hints for visiting all the major cemeteries around Los Angeles. With this book you'll be able to spend some time with stars like Carole Landis, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, and Janet Gaynor. There aren't many photos but that's because some of the cemeteries wouldn't allow them. I take this book with me every time I visit California and it's always very helpful.

Here is a treasure trove of the timeless humor and slapstick comedy that has made the Stooges such comic legends. Filled with more than 1,400 entries, jokes, and key gags, this deluxe collector's volume showcases the Stooges in all their zany, absurd glory.

Greatest Stooge book EVER.......2007-07-17
This book is a Stooge fan's dream come true. I saw a reviewer say this book is cluttered and unuseable. Bull. Then again, he stated the Marx Brothers Encyclopedia is easier to use. I own that book and its more cluttered then this book. This book has everything in a nice, neat order. I own two copies of the book, after one fell apart. I emailed the author a back when I first bought the book and he is a very kind man. We had many discussions about our love for the Stooges. I highly recommend this book to Stooge fans. No Stooge book will probably ever compare to this one.
A STOOGES FAN DREAM COME TRUE.......2002-04-06
This book has everything you need to know about The Stooges.
It is well organized and easy to navigate. The detail of the classic episodes is worth the price alone. I highly recommend this book.
A Rehash of Lines and Names. Not Much Here........2002-02-12
I completely agree with other reviewers: that all one had to do is watch the Stooges shorts and write down the funny lines and names and voila you have Three Stooges Encyclopedia.
I give it two stars just because the section on supporting actors is interesting. Otherwise the rest is just a rehash of lines and names. The bios are even disappointing, it has stuff like, "We all want to be Curly."
I would advise to look elsewhere if you want a book on THE THREE STOOGES.
Very funny and helpful........2002-02-08
Not sure what the sign of someone's door said in MONKEY BUSINESSMEN? You'll find it in THE THREE STOOGES ENCYCLOPEDIA. This has some of the Stooges most famous quotes, songs, signs and so much more. You should buy this. This is the perfect addition to your Three Stooges collection.
The Official Three Stooges Encyclopedia.......2001-01-18
Informative, entertaining and insightful. A very original presentation of the most original comedy team ever. Readers are given new insight into each Stooge and a sense of where their genius originated. Especially interesting are the well written accounts of their personal idiosyncrasies as well as their relationships with each other. Time flies when reading this.

AMAZING!.......2007-01-12
Wow, this is probably the most informative book about acting that I have ever read. Yes, I know commenting on a book before I finish reading it probably isn't the wisest thing.
I am at the acting tests, which I still have to do. But I did make dates with courage and determination! I am excited to ask my neighbor for a pair of socks.
I didn't think I would have what it takes to be an actor, but this book offers encouragement and ways to get you ready to be an actor.
READ IT!!!
"What have you done today...".......2004-02-21
I have dreamed of becoming an actor all my life, but i wasn't sure how to go about starting a career other than school plays. When I got this book I began reading it right away...and I did not put it down until the last page. This book is a goldmine for anyone who wants to get into the acting industry. Peter's advice and his steps are realistic and after reading it I was inspired to really go for it. now I ask myself everyday..."What have you done today to advance your acting career?"
GREAT BOOK!!.......2004-02-11
Well, I guess you're not really supposed to write a review on a book until you've finished it, but this book is great. I got it two days ago and I'm almost finished reading it. I almost can't put it down, and i'm not a huge reading fan. I've read other books and none of them seemed to catch my attention or explain a process as well as pete does in this book. I would recommend it to anyone considering the acting career, not only does it help you decide wether you have the courage to act or not, it also gives you a step by step process to help keep you on track. I believe that this can help any actor, and is essential to the beginner.
Most helpful guide I've read.......2004-02-03
I read some of the other reviews and wondered what these guys were thinking if they're skeptical at all. Even though this is the only acting book I've read, I can't imagine that there could be anything more helpful. Talk about to the point. It seems pretty clear after reading this, that I can do this if I just follow these steps. I like that the writer doesn't use any false promises. At the same time though, he really nails it witht the whole step by steep thing. He made me think of things I never realized before like exactly how you get that first role that leads to other roles. This book is gold in my opinion. I'm just starting out and trying to get my feet wet. If you're that way, I think you'll enjoy this too. I read through the my highlights every day.
Playgirl centerfold or Acting guru?.......2004-01-25
Jazwinski seems like an odd choice to be giving out advice on acting. If his methods are so great why has he only one film credit? He also seems to be hiding the fact that his own career started as a Playgirl centerfold. Not the best choice for advancement in a legitimate acting career. The book is well written but just keep some perspective on what he says.
