Book Description

The Final Quest and The Call have become modern classics, selling more than a million copies. Now both books are available in this value-priced omnibus edition.

In The Final Quest Rick Joyner writes about visions and prophetic experiences that unfold the last battle between light and darkness. This book is a call for all Christians to take a stand for truth and righteousness in these troubled times.

The Call continues the message, offering a picture of the dawning of the day of the Lord and urging Christians to seize the opportunity to witness for Christ in the last days.

This two-in-one book is an exhortation for Christians to live in a manner worthy of the call of God and an inspiring vision of the wonderful plans God has in store for His people.

5 out of 5 stars The truth about spiritual warfare.......2007-06-25

There's no other way for me to put it other than... the Vision really sheds light on to the whole spiritual warfare. Before reading this book spiritual warfare was a hard thing for me to grasp, but now I feel like I have a new and fresh understanding. This is a must-read. I personally had a hard time reading most Christian books, but this one is fast paced, fully of adventure and spiritual truths! You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The Vision A Two-in-one Volume Of The Final Quest And The Call.......2007-06-02

The best Christian book (after the Bible) I have EVER read (and I read many). If you have a hunger for God's depths, this book is a must. It is prophesy-inspired and yet incredibly Christ-centered. The Word and the Spirit are in balance here. It truly highlights the difference between condemnation and divine conviction. Every word is a bit of heaven and it makes your vision clearer; it helps see the world from God's perspective and reconsider many habitual patterns. The best is perhaps that on each page you would be compelled to stop and take some time to sit quietly, overwhelmed with repentance; you would experience the joy of freedom, letting go of the bondage of self-centeredness and self-deception, and crave for more conviction. This is not a book to read fast; its wisdom is not to be digested at once. I have found that my friends throughout all denominations are impressed with this book, including Protestants, Catholics and Greek Orthodox. It is very powerful indeed.
I also recommend "The Prophetic Ministry" by the same author.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome, Deep, Could not put it down.......2007-01-24

This is a very unusual book. One you start reading it, it is very hard to stop. Just when you think there could not possibly be any more surprises, you encounter another one.

This book has incredible Christian spiritual insight. It is one of those books that I had to buy for others close to me, and this combination book of The Final Quest and The Call is definitely a good buy.

Another book Rick Joyner came out with is The Surpassing Greatness of His Power. I am reading that now. He had another followup book to these two called something like Prophecy in the 21st Century which I also read and loved.

But, these books are so awesome -- very symbolic and intensely enlightening and very deeply Biblical and Christian and helps us see how the full armor of God operates--the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the shield of faith, the sword of the spirit and the Gospel of Peace, and how these operate in the spirit as Christians fight a spiritual battle against the devil, sometimes climbing higher and higher and getting out of reach of various weapons of the enemy, but then some go back down into the battle again to rescue others and so on. There is no way I can do this book justice in this little review, but I very highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars A true journey.......2007-01-19

This is the best sense of the spiritual battle that rages all around us I have ever encountered. If you want to learn the schemes of the evil one and how Christ counters so the Christians win, this is a must read. Revelation power to understand how to stand firm and get in closer realtionship with the Lord is seen trhough this author's eyes in ways most of us would miss. I enjoyed this gimplse into heaven.

5 out of 5 stars We NEED Wisdom in this hour. We find it in the REVELATION given within The Vision.......2007-01-16

My husband and I have found Rick Joyner's book, The Vision, meets us "exactly where we are at". The Vision puts "into FOCUS" that which I believe the Holy Spirit HAS BEEN declaring within God's children through Christ...bringing clarity, bringing wisdom, bringing revelation.

The Vision, with the spiritual lessons found on every page, is for anyone who desires more of Christ, and wisdom in how to walk WITH HIM in victory. We LOVED the book for it confirmed many things the Holy Spirit had already communicated to our own hearts prior to the read; which stabilized us even more in The Truth. We thank the Lord to men who are willing to reveal to others what God has revealed to them.

Thank you Rick!

3 out of 5 stars Isn't This Work QUITE biased???.......2006-05-18

I enjoy reading much of Abanes' books. I especially enjoyed the one about Mormonism.
I do think that a few evangelical Christians are way too obsessed with the gloom and doom of the end-times. We are to be aware of the possibility we could be living in the end-times, but I do not believe it should be our focus; we should make sure we are "right with God" whether or not the "end-times" are here or not. I do take issue with Abanes though, that he lets his prejudices and biases affect a lot of his work. For example, I have been an Assemblies of God minister's wife for more than 20 years, and Abanes seems to unfairly pick out Pentecostals as having "end-time" hysteria. Excuse me, but I wasn't aware that Tim LaHaye (Southern Baptist, correct?) and Jack VanImpe were Pentecostals. In fact, I would dare say there are as many other doomsday "prophets" that are Baptist or otherwise. I resent the fact the Abanes more or less compares Pentecostals and their "speaking in tongues" as idiotic or cultish. If that is so, why does the Senior Pastor of Abanes' church (Rick Warren of Saddleback) even associate with Pentecostals? I believe he was one of the main speakers at our General Council several years ago. Interesting fact, huh, since Abanes makes fun of Pentecostals in this book.

5 out of 5 stars Making sense of nonsense.......2001-11-08

Richard Abanes, a former cult member himself, takes on apocolyptic ideoligies in his book, "End Time Visions."This is a remarkable work, one that had a great influence on my outlook on several aspects of my own religion. I am a Christian, but I was greatly impressed by Mr. Abanes unmasking of some of the more extreme Doomsday prophets of our times. It is refreshing to see someone throw a proverbial wet blanket on the armegeddon fires raging in several Christian circles today without ridiculing Christianity itself. This is a fascinating, wonderful book that I would highly reccomend to anyone that is suffering from "end of the world tension", or anyone that is interested in making informed decisions for themelves. This book was one of the most delightful finds I ever encountered in my search of non-fiction material.

1 out of 5 stars An Interesting read but seriously marred by grave errors!.......2000-04-05

I have read several of the most recent examinations of "Apocalypse Culture" and Apocalypse prediction including this book. I must tell you that I am astonished by reviews stating that this book is well researched since the Author makes a number of very glaring errors and mis-statements. In some cases, it appears these mis-statements have been to further the author's own biased view of Catholicism and other Christian faiths which have openly discussed the theological implications of Biblical prophecy concerning Armegeddon and The Apocalypse.

For instance, he alleges, quite incorrectly, that the Catholic Bible contains books which were added to the Bible. Apparently he is not as familiar with the chronology of the consolidation of the Hebrew texts (the "Old" Testament) and the Greek texts (the "New" Testament). While most of the currently "approved Gospels" came together in the first hundred years following Christ's death, the consolidation of what is now considered the Catholic Canon took place not very long after that and was made official at Nicea.(324 CE if memory serves me)during the famed Nicean Conference at which, the present Catholic "testament of Faith or "Apostles' Creed" (you know, the one that starts with: "We believe in one God etc etc) was introduced into the Liturgy virtually as it stands today. So, the Catholic Bible with all it's books was established then and remains the same today. Protestants and other newer Jerusalem-sects reject certain of these books based on the Jewish closing of the Canon. A better explanation of this could be obtained from any local Kingdom Hall, since Jehovah's Witnesses tend, as a group, to be very knowledgable about the complicated issues of what got put in when , why and what got taken out and why. Keep in mind, I say this and I am not a member!

Along the way, however, various break-away sects subtracted a number of books from this complete Bible for a variety of reasons. Most of the excised books were cut during and after the Protestant reformation and even up til present day, many protestant sects even slice out chapters or verses for what they consider very good reasons. Incidently, several other Modern Christian faiths, including Jehovah's Witnesses have more or less retained the complete "Catholic" Bible as the book upon which they base their theology concerning the end of the world. However, they do not include the "Extra Canonical books" of the Old Testament which have slid in and out of various approved version of the Catholic Bible over the past 1,700 years. This is a scholarly issue that appears to be beyond the scope of this author but can be easily explained to readers in other works. The JW's use a Bible translation referred to as The New World Bible and, by the way, more than just the JW's use this translation as their approved text. It is quite a remarkable modern translation worth perusing if you are unfamiliar with it.

Now, all that history that said, I must state also that in this book, the Author fails to accurately reveal the motivations behind the cuts, slight verse alterations and outright slices that were made including some of the Anti-semtic reasons for some of them (like The Book of Maccabees for example which many modern Faiths consider innapropriate for promoting Zionism.)Other sects object to one of the "Non-Canonical" books such as TOBIT due to it's alleged use as a source of witchcraft and Angel-worship. so you see, to talk about the current understanding of belief in an Apocolypse, an author needs to cover how we have arrived at the texts now used to describe what form that event might take.

More importantly, I feel that the author reveals a very strong bias against Orthodox Christian theological interpretations as well as mislabeling as "Cults" some Christian sects that have long overcome their modest beginnings as break-away groups at which time they might have espoused some beliefs considered rather odd at the time. Some of the groups maligned have now amassed millions of members world-wide. To me, this seriously mars the credibility of his conclusions.

Another point I feel I must raise is the authors flip-flops on Biblical Prophecy. This is very common today but in a world where we accept "Spin" as an everday event but "Spin" doesn't cut it when you are treading upon people's core religious beliefs. For example, when it suits his argument, he invokes certain prophecies to support a point and then later, he debunks the same prophecy as proof of the entire point of this book. A real scholar cannot have it both ways.

Look, there are better works out there which many of the below reviews list and Amazon carries. Please consider flipping downwards thru these rewviews for reference and checking outthese other sources as well if you are seriously interested in gaining a balanced perspective on the subject of belief in an eventual Apocalypse.

Also, consider buying or renting an A&E production called WHO WROTE THE BIBLE, available here. It's a Two video tape set of four episodes of MYSTERIES OF THE BIBLE which reveals much more accurately the history of the Bible. It clearly tells you when which books were written, by whom when possible and when they came to be included in what we call the modern Bible. This series does not contain the clear Anti-Catholic tone that this book seemed to me to be riddled with. In fact this production doesn't favor any one faith above any other which is a strength.

Belief and/or concern about an eventual Apocalypse is a nearly Universal concern or at least a Global concern and it behooves any reader interested to look beyond this flawed work for better answers if you really desire to gain an understanding of WHY this issue concerns so many people and WHY so many faiths and sects have attempted to fervently ferret out predictions of the exact date. I'll leave you with a reminder that the New testament tells us that "No one knows the day or the Hour" of the Apocalypse.

Thank you.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but there are errors.......1999-09-28

I agree with most of the other reviews but was dissapointed with Abanes dismissal of the validity of Near Death Experiences which he writes off as subjective brain activity caused by the process of dying. Nonesense. There are documented cases of NDE's in which the patient has accurately recalled all the steps in the operation on herself/himself from an ABOVE vantage point that would be impossible to recount from someone lying down. This was told to the doctors amazement within minutes of recovery and the information was not obtained any way else. Another mistake by Abanes is when he mentions that the books (still retained)in the Catholic Bible were "proven false by Christians hundreds of years ago." Wrong again. They were not proven false but were removed by Protestants because these books in the Bible did not agree with their philosophy. These books were absolutely used by the early Christians for centuries. Were Christians wrong for fifteen hundred years? By what authority did these men remove these books? What's to stop men from removing more books now from the Bible because they have decided that there are still more false books in the Bible? Read some of the book "Don't Know Much About the Bible" and other sources from historians who will tell you without a doubt that the Catholic Church did not add these to the Bible but the Prostestants removed them from the Bible. No doubt Mr. Abanes has alot of truth in his book but he didn't look deeper into some very important areas that deserve it. 23,000 + Protestant demoninations--is something wrong--you bet!

1 out of 5 stars no matter for jokes.......1999-09-27

I am not Christian but I think this is serious business, Abanes should not make fun from these serious people concerned about our dark future. Concerning the problems ahead of us, I recommend instead Duke's My Awakening, and The Real American Dilemma: Race, Immigration, and the Future of America (by Jared Taylor.)

    Book Description

Plain View Press and the Center for the Study of the Gift Economy are pleased to announce a US tour by international artist Monica Sjoo for her newest book, Return of the Dark/Light Mother Or New Age Armageddon: Towards a Feminist Vision of the Future.

Sjoo, a Swedish eco-feminist and Earth mysteries artist is known both as a visual artist and as the co-author, along with Barbara Mor, of The Great Cosmic Mother: Rediscovering the Religion of the Earth. In this new book she exposes at the roots of the New Age movement a deep mistrust of Earths life giving wisdom which must be rediscovered if we are to survive another thousand years.

This new and revised edition of the influential and controversial book originally published by The Womens Press (titled New Age Armageddon . . . ) contains expanded critiques of channeling and genetic engineering along with more than 40 photos of Sjs paintings which place the Earth in her many forms at the center of a feminist vision for the future evolved from the integrated, wholistic, life-giving wisdom of our living Mother planet who doesnt need to be saved by spacemen who would turn Earth to light or sterilized by corporations who would own the Mother seed.

5 out of 5 stars A great book for one of cinema's great movies.......2001-05-02

When I first saw Visions of Armageddon on sale at the bookstore, I often found myself looking at it more and more. So, finally, I bought it.

This has to be a great book on the 1998 blockbuster film. It contains information on all subjects from the film's genesis to final production. Hundreds of lavish photographs and drawing make it even better. It includes interviews with the cast and crew.

However, for people looking for a good book to read, ignore this. The information skips back and forth. One moment they are telling you about how the film began. Then they are telling you about how the special effects were made. Then they are telling about the genesis and so forth. But the lack of definite timeline does not at all hurt the story of the most overcritized film of all time. As Michael Bay said "There is nothing wrong with entertaining people."

5 out of 5 stars Bad movie, good book.......1998-09-25

One word on the movie: bad. Still even though the movie sucked, I found myself just peeking at the book while at bookstores. Needless to say I bought the book, and I enjoyed it ten times more then I did the movie. So if you have a choice between the book and the movie, buy the book. You won't regret it.

If you saw the movie, and loved it, go get Visions of Armageddon because it was so good and shows Dreamquest and Vfx how they did those spectacular Special FX. Great pictures from the movie. Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay makes a great team for a fun, high-paced, action-packed movie for the summer! One of my favorite movies of the summer, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ARMAGEDDON GO SEE IT AND YOU'LL BE FEELIN' LIKED YOU GOT OUT OF AN KICK ASS ROLLER COASTER RIDE!!!!

I have very much enjoyed the work of Monica Sjoo and this work impresses me with its erudition, breadth, and sincerity. I first read her writing in a house at 47 Princess Victoria Street in Bristol England while drinking endless British tea underneath the overwhelmingly feminist visions of her large paintings on masonite. 5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece !!.......1999-02-14

Monica Sjoo investigation of the New Age movement and its dangerous literal interpretations of "light energy versus dark energy" combined with the negation of women's spirituality and pagan worship. Is a ground breaking, cross cultural tour-de-force that brings close to home the perils of trusting to simplistic New Age gurus who want to pedal old patriarchal ideologies in a new plastic covering. Her research into the appropriation of Native American and Aboriginal cultures as well as the rejection of Celtic pagan deities by New Age practitioners are extremely timely. Ms Sjoo who was born in Sweden does not cut corners when it comes to explaining in graphic detail how her own son nearly died and suffered needless psychological and physical pain due to New Age medical practices. Its a harrowing account of how placing ones trust in unlicensed medical and psychiatric techniques can bring a person to the brink of suicide.

Throughout it all Ms Sjoo maintains a wiry sense of humor and a scholastic integrity that proves her impartiality even whilst she warns of the perils of New Age abusers. This book is essential for anyone who is considering a religion that is removed from the Judeo-Christian patriarchy which currently dominates and manipulate women's sexuality and spirituality. She offers an alternative to the New Age false gurus by opening the readers eyes to ancestral pagan beliefs that were more ecologically sound and ultimately spiritually rewarding for their practitioners.

Buy it there will be no regrets

5 out of 5 stars Essential analysis of the New Age and Goddess spirituality........1996-09-15

This is probably the most important book to have been written on the New Age so far. For those of us who have harboured sneaking suspicions that New Age gurus are missing the point, with their emphasis on the "light" and their fear of both literal and metaphorical darkness and the New Age movement's refusal to accept or patronising and grudging acceptance of women and their potential, this book is a goddessend! I wept with relief on finding it. Monica Sjoo's criticism comes from a sophisticated, experiential understanding of politics, society and spirituality, and the necessity of making links between these three aspects of our lives. Sjoo's research into the ancient Goddess-worshipping civilisations, the modern New Age movement and feminist and grassroots politics is extensive, but does not alienate the reader. Rather, her booklists inspire others to read further. Whether you are a woman who is marginalised for her beliefs or a New Ager looking for a real analysis of the movement, the future and how we must change the way we think, New Age and Armageddon is essential reading. Book Description

Is it just me, or do you also sense that when it comes to the Middle East, we may well be inching our way toward a bad place? What if anything can we do about it? Albert Einstein came up with E=mc2. Thankfully, the formula for success in the Middle East is a lot simpler - Ideology plus Investment equals Hope. We need nothing less than a new ideological framework along with some well placed investment dollars to generate a sense of hope, and with hope all things are possible. Use An Ideology of Common Sense along with Economic Incentives to sell a Vision of Hope - a Vision of Peace, Prosperity, and Freedom - on the Arab street, in the Muslim World, and in the world as a whole. Speak to one another with common sense, and with a sense of personal dignity. Put some serious money on the table, and give everyone on earth a place at the table, a stake in his or her future. Make the "global economy" truly global. Use the motto: "We stand ready to invest in you, if you are ready to invest in yourselves." Invest in projects which resonate with hope, which create jobs, which protect the environment, and which allow people to become who they want to become, even if they want to become different from you. Create facts on the ground which speak louder than words. Marginalize the extremists on all sides by co-opting their strategy - by doing what they do, only better - and by putting them in the uncomfortable and untenable position of holding their people back from a better life. If the West is good at anything, it is making and investing money. Why not use this strength as part of our strategic arsenal to promote the peace, and to win the war against ideological extremism? And when the need arises, fight on the ground, and fight hard, but position the fight within a Vision of Hope. Raise the fight on the ground to a higher moral plain, and sustain the fight by giving it a moral clarity of purpose. If all this sounds a bit over the top, it probably is. But this may well be the time, before time runs out, to dream the impossible, and to make the impossible come true.

In his book, Nissim unveils an optimistic roadmap - A Vision of Peace, Prosperity, and Freedom - to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. Nissim believes that only the universal compass of Common Sense can guide our path to peace.

An Ideology of Common Sense, a common denominator between all mankind, is the underpinning concept of Selling a Vision of Hope.

According to Nissim, an Ideology of Common Sense will sway the tide of public opinion towards the mainstream and away from ideological extremists while strategic Economic Investments will raise the quality of life. Supporting the ideology and investment strategy are a series of Public Diplomacy Programs that will carry the Vision forward. As a last resort, if we have to fight, we will, but Nissim believes we have to position the fight within a Vision of Hope. We should raise the fight on the ground to a higher moral plain, by giving the fight a moral clarity of purpose.

Selling a Vision of Hope is indeed, a refreshing alternative. A must read.
