Wonderfully Made is wonderfully made.......2007-08-23
I read this book to my son, JW and to his brother - I've gotten each a book and personalized it with their name in appropriate places. I tear up almost every time that I read it because it is so very touching. I would recommend this book for anyone. It makes a wonderful baby gift.
Straight to the Heart.......2007-07-03
This book is simple, but touching. I have given it to all of my friends. We all need a reminder of how much God loves us, and this really gets the point across in a short, sweet way. It is especially helpful when I am feeling ungrateful or down & makes me look at all that I have in my life. The best book I have ever read. Just awesome!
God Thinks You're Wonderful.......2007-05-27
This is a wonderful book for kids. It's out of print, however, but I was able to find it through Amazon.com. It's simple, fun, and a quick read that clearly illustrates how special each child is to God. The author, Max Lucado, never disappoints. I bought a copy for each of my grandchildren for Easter and one for a First Communion Gift and they all loved it.
Amazing.......2007-05-12
This book is so beautiful. Its just an incredible love story but written for a child! I used it for my youth group, to bring home the fact that we are all children of God and no we are not adults BUT CHILDREN!
God Thinks You're Wonderful .......2007-04-11
This is something "wonderful" we can read ourselves, have our kids read and then read to our grandchildren. This will help build their self esteem and make them realize they really are special, not only to us but God, too.

A must-have for any "Lifer".......2000-09-26
Jeanine Basinger has put together the definitive collection of primary source information available about "It's a Wonderful Life."
Anybody who considers him or herself a "Lifer" (a fan of the movie, usually an extreme fan such as myself) needs to purchase this book.
Almost everything you want to know is in here, from the original story the film was based on to interviews with Stewart, an introduction by Capra, pictures galore, the final script, script revisions, notes about suggested censorship, and much, much more.
There is even information in here you wouldn't even think about asking. An example is the name of the "stars in charge." One is named Joseph. What is the name of the other galxy (Hint: The answer isn't God).
I often get e-mails asking me questions about the film. If I don't have the answer, this is the first book I pick up. Of the many times I've been asked questions, I have always found the answer in this book.
This is the ultimate IAWL reference.
Wonderful in every way; just like the movie!.......1999-01-21
Could it be possible that a book written about the most inspirational American film of all time do justice to it? The answer is a resounding "YES!". Jeanine Basinger's "The It's a Wonderful Life Book" is the ultimate tribute to the film that Jimmy Stewart, Frank Capra and millions of people all over the world call their favorite of all time.
Diving into the archives of Frank Capra to tell the evolution of the movie from cradle to grave (though it will never die!), Ms. Basinger manages to tell the story with such sincerety, fascination and charm that you get the feeling that everything surrounding the movie was just as wonderful as the final product! Best of all, the details of the making of the movie are so vivid that you almost start to feel that YOU WERE THERE!
The first thing you realize as you read the story of IAWL is that is was a really big movie from the gitgo. That is, Mr. Capra had high aspirations for it and did EVERYTHING in his power to make it his greatest and lasting achievement (little argument here) and that Hollywood was watching.
Fans may know that the story started as a Christmas card called "The Greatest Gift" which finally found its way into Mr. Capra's hands where, after many writes and re-writes into a script, got the Capra touch transforming it into his baby. Then casting began with each actor painstakingly chosen to be the perfect person for each particular character.
Anecdotes abound, starting with Capra's embarrassingly jumbled explanation of the storyline while recruiting Stewart. (Fortunately, all Jimmy needed to hear was that Frank wanted him.) Then we hear the one about Stewart's shattered confidence in acting which is restored when Lionel Barrymore pulls him aside for a peptalk. Finally, We're told that the famous phone scene where George kisses Mary was done in a single take AND THAT TWO PAGES OF DIALOGUE WERE SKIPPED! (Capra saw the magic and said "Print it!").
We also learn some fascinating facts about the production such as the 300-yard long set which made Bedford Falls' Main Street and how a record-breaking heat wave took place during the shooting of the snow scenes (in which a new technology was developed for making more realistic-looking snow which won the crew an honorable mention at the Oscars!). Other incredible details are too vast to mention - you've gotta read it for yourself!
The book is worth it if just to learn all of these amazing facts. Most amazing, though, is the LOVE that the two driving forces put into this film culminating in a "Capraesque" out-of-this-world PICNIC for the cast and crew.
The picnic's panoramic photo, which manages to miraculously include these guys on either end of the crowd (they ran behind as the cameraman slowly panned from left to right) typifies not only the ubiquitousness which Capra had to have to make IAWL a reality, but also how we can never seem to get enough of our lifetime friend, George Bailey.

Instructional Tool for K-12 Education.......2006-02-05
This book does an excellent job of addressing diverse abilities. It works on taking the focus off of a 'label' or internal issue, and placing the focus on enjoying life and respecting (and celebrating) diversity of experiences. For students with disabilities, it provides a representation and topic that may be reflective of themselves. There are few books that accurately portray/represent disability in a neutral or positive way (without pity). For non-disabled students, it neutrally showcases diverse abilities and valuing diverse experiences. With the right discussion, this book can lend a helpful start to diversity awareness/multiculturalism (as disability in the framework of diversity and culture). I do pose to my students to rethink the ending and ask them what the outcome would have been if they wrote it-it's a very interesting springboard for a social construct or diversity discussion. This book can provide interest for all ages. Students also enjoy the illustrations because they are engaging and pleasant. I am using this book with my JH age students with developmental disabilities--they LOVE it.
An intelligent book for children & moms and dads too!.......2003-06-17
I feel it was a true honor to have the author of this book, Bo Lozoff, personally give me a copy. This happened when I visited him at his beautiful farm in North Carolina that he -- with extraordinary courage -- has for years invited those who have just left prison to stay at, and even become a part of his extended, remarkably family there. Bo, as many know, is an old buddy of Ram Dass; they shared/started this "extensive prison work," which adventually got Bo and his wife Sita invited (by the Dali Lama) to India to have a private audience with him. The Dali Lama wanted to meet and honor this man -- Bo.
But about this book: I think angels must have wired Bo one night, hooked him up to some beautiful voltage; that is, planted all these words in him about this sweet, brave fly, who in many ways any sincere seeker of love and beauty and God can so identify with. Bravery, that is becoming such a need these days.
This wonderful fly will help us.
Thanks Bo for all you are doing for the world,
Daniel Ladinsky

This Kids' Book Has It ALL!.......2002-09-30
The Wonderful Life of a Fly Who Couldn't Fly is a real gem of a book --- for children of any age! As a long-time pre-school teacher, I love books that rhyme. They're so much fun to read aloud, and kids enjoy finishing the lines, which makes them feel like they're reading. Books that rhyme have become quite rare, but now we have "Fly" to fill the gap. As the parent of a child with disabilities, I look for books that have a strong, positive message about the contributions that a person with disabilities can make, rather than a needy, fearful image that emphasizes tragedy or medical problems. Also, many books for children with disabilities in the past have had terrible illustrations. "Fly" definitely rises to the top on those two counts. Finally, as a human being I look for books which have a timeless spiritual message. I'm sure when you read "Fly", and think of giving it as a gift, you'll remember its beautiful ending again and again.
beautiful, touching and inspirational.......2002-09-19
A great book. Not sappy or corny. It doesn't hit you over the head with a moral. But it's there nonetheless: Focus on our strengths instead of our shortcomings. I've read it to my children over and over. They love it.
It's a Wonderful Book.......2002-08-31
This book tells a sweet story about learning to live with and triumph over our shortcomings. It is written in rhyming verse that is easy for children to follow, and it is lovingly illustrated. The pictures are full of gorgeous detail and accompany the story beautifully. You would never think that someone could make a fly look loveable, but that is what Beth Stover has done.
Book Description
Considered a masterpiece since first published in 1907, this enchanting, remarkably original work by a Nobel Prize-winning author records the adventures of a mischievous 14-year-old who is changed into a tiny being, transported across the Swedish countryside on the back of a goose, and learns about nature, geography, and folklore.
Download Description
And over and around all these cliffs and rocks crawl entangled tendrils and weeds. Trees grow there also, but the wind's power is so great that trees have to transform themselves into clinging vines, that they may get a firm hold on the steep precipices. The oaks creep along on the ground, while their foliage hangs over them like a low ceiling; and long-limbed beeches stand in the ravines like great leaf-tents.

Exciting and good message.......2006-04-03
This is a wonderful book--This edition has BEAUTIFUL illustrations. Nils has one harrowing adventure after another and he also changes from a selfish boy to one who treats animals and other people with care and concern. All this while also teaching the geography of Sweden--an added bonus. It does involve him being bewitched until he learns his lesson so if you have strong feelings about this sort of fantasy you wouldn't want it, but to those who are OK with fairy tale level fanstasy you should find it enchanting.
Amazing book.......2006-03-07
This is an amazing book that gives so much information on the environmental features of Sweden that adults as well as children will be fascinated by the tale.
I read it as a kid, and want to share it with my own.......2005-10-05
It's a wonderful, kind-hearted tale. I readed in Russian and am delighted to find it in English. Will pull children in as well Harry Potter did. In my opinion it's an even better book. It's kinder for one, and it celebrates nature.
A fairy tale and a description of Sweden in one.......2005-07-25
Nils is a typical troublemaker in a village in southern Sweden who pulls the tails of cats, throws rocks at geese etc. Then he finds a gnome and teases him as well, but the result is that he is shrunk to the size of a sparrow so all the creatures he was mean to can get their own. Too ashamed to show his new self to his family, he travels with the wild geese on their annual migration to Lapland.
What follows is a picaresque and description of the natural world of Sweden from the south to the north in terms of the environment, the animals and the life that they lead. The flock of geese is a matriarchy led by the experienced and assertive Akka. In his travels, Nils learns helplessness and helping others and has many adventures involving magic flutes, a castle with rats and an underwater city. He also learns respect and admiration for the animals and the natural world.
This is a children's story with some features rarely found in other books (such as the matriarchy and the focus on the natural without too much "magic" - although the animals do talk) which makes it memorable.
The Wonderful Adventures of Nils.......2000-11-11
My dad read me this book when I was just young in Swedish. He is from Sweden and wanted his children born in America to know the culture and history of his homeland. That is what this book is about. It's actually a story of the geography of Sweden from the south up to the north. Taken from the view of a young trouble maker, who shrunken, rides on the back of a wild goose you get to experience the adventure with him. A delightful, delightful book.

Dr. Lark proves it:our lives are better in the second half!.......1999-08-20
In her comprehensive and user-friendly book on self help for menopause, Dr. Lark provides all the information women need to assist them in successfully managing menopause and achieving optimal health afterwards. She exposes the stereotype about women and aging and proves that, contrary to the myth, women find themselves "liberated" by menopause and enjoy their new-found freedom from the monthly cycle! I have not only used the book but in my book on the fitness lifestyle for women I recommend it. Thank you, Dr. Lark.

Great for all fans.......2007-01-11
This book is a quick, easy read for all fans of this great movie. It provides many little bits of information on the cast and story and even points out little gaffes or interesting items within the movie that you may never have noticed yourself. So get out your copy of the movie, grab the book, and revisit the Bailey's!
Book Description
Few motion pictures have enjoyed a renaissance like the 1946 Frank Capra masterpiece It's a Wonderful Life. Nominated for five Academy Awards, it was dismissed as syrupy Christmas fare and fell into obscurity until television gave it new life. Today it's an American tradition.
With The It's a Wonderful Life Memory Book, any fan of the classic film can further appreciate its magic and legacy. The warm reminiscences of the film's cast are supported by excellent photographs, providing the perfect companion for any fan of the filmor anyone who believes in miracles and angels.
The book features dozens of interviews and rare behind-the-scenes photographs that allow readers to see how the movie was created. Comments from Frank Capra, Jimmy Stewart, Bobbie Anderson, Jimmy Hawkins, Karen Grimes, and many more make the story come alive.
More than a dozen brief biographies of the prominent cast members detail how It's a Wonderful Life affected their lives and careers. "Then" and "now" photographs supplement the career highlights of Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, Beulah Bondi, Gloria Grahame, Frank Faylen, Ward Bond, and others.
Like George Bailey himself, It's a Wonderful Life was rescued from oblivion in the late 1970s when it was discovered that the film's copyright had not been renewed and the motion picture fell into public domain and television stations nationwide began freely airing the film. From film remakes and marvelous merchandise to cast reunions and Saturday Night Live's hilarious parody, The It's a Wonderful Life Memory Book explores the adoration of generations of viewers who have fallen under its spell.
Customer Reviews:
Perfect Christmas Gift!.......2006-11-29
If you love "It's a Wonderful Life" (and who doesn't?), then you'll LOVE this book! I was stunned to learn about what happened to the cast and where the Bailey kids are today and what they look like in more recent years. No other book offers the pure nostalgia factor like this one. The author gives us some amazing details about deleted scenes, as well as photographs that have surfaced showing these rare behind-the-scenes glimpses into scenes that never made the final cut. I loved the photo of Henry Travers (Clarence the Angel) in full color, not long before he died. What a treat this book is!! And the special message from Jimmy Stewart at the beginning of the book is pure magic! If you are a fan of this film, you won't be disappointed! This book is the perfect gift for any friends who love the movie, too. I've already ordered several and am giving them out this holiday!
Wonderful but not exceptional.......2006-02-23
There are plenty of surprises in this book. You'll read what director Frank Capra and the players themselves have to say about making "It's a Wonderful Life," and you'll discover some interesting names among those who were almost cast. You'll also learn that some of the film's legends are true, while others are not. For example, while it is true that Carl Switzer (Alfalfa from the "Our Gang" comedies) was the rascal who opened the gym floor exposing the swimming pool beneath, it is NOT true that muppets Bert and Ernie were named as an homage to Bert the cop and Ernie the cab driver -- that's just a coincidence. In spite of the book's rather crowded layout and lackluster production, if you love "It's a Wonderful Life" and/or if you collect IAWL memorabilia, you'll want to have this book.
A Wonderful Review of a Wonderful Book.......2005-12-28
Cox's "It's a Wonderful Life: A Memory Book" is an excellent addition to the movie buff's collection, and to fans of this exceptional film. The book is packed with stunning photographs (many never seen before), interesting tid-bits about the making-of, backstory on not only the fine performances of James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore, but the character actors that helped make Capra's touching film so memorable and the holiday favorite it has become--almost 60 years later. It is well-researched and richly-written. This is a perfect gift year-round for any reason. It is one of Cox's best!
It's a wonderful book!.......2005-07-20
I have to admit that I wasn't much of an "It's a Wonderful Life" fan....until now. I had the pleasure of meeting Karolyn Grimes (little ZuZu Bailey) recently. She is such a warm and lovely person and spoke of IAWL with such passion that I bought the DVD the next night and watched it with new eyes. Now I'm hooked.
I was so delighted to find this book, to learn even more about this classic movie. After reading the book, I had to watch the DVD again.
Even if you're just a casual viewer of the movie, you'll still love this book. It's incredibly well-researched and jam-packed with beautiful photographs. Stephen Cox has a way with words. You feel like you're sitting with an old friend. His books are like comfort-food for the mind!
Awesome book!!!!!.......2005-01-15
I totally loved this book!- I finished it in one sitting- I was facinated with all of the little tidbits that I wasnt aware of: H.B. Warner being sauced when he filmed the loss of his son scene- I was especially impressed with the very rare colored photos in the mid section of the book. I have read almost every one of this author's books but this one is a special holiday treat!

Book Description
Life abundant--Jesus promised it and we long for it, yet few Christians seem to have it. Blending lively anecdotes, commentary, and teachings from the Bible, Stanley introduces you to the Holy Spirit. He is not an oversized electrical current you just plug into when you need additional help, or a theological concept, but just as real and active as Christ. He has personality as well as a specific job description and a definite desire to be an active part of our lives.
Customer Reviews:
Good book.......2007-06-29
Really gives a greater understanding of the Holy Spirit. I love how Mr. Stanley provides verses along with what he is writing about. Reading the book was like a huge epiphany, it really clarified alot of things for me. I think it is a "must read" book.
Written in 1994, but will be a timeless treasure.......2007-05-05
This book is an excellent read! It is both informative and practical as Dr. Stanley walks you through his personal discovery of the Holy Spirit in his own Christian experience. In his trademark conversational style, he helps you to understand why an understanding of the Holy Spirit is perhaps the most important component of your Christian walk, second only to receiving salvation itself. Dr. Stanley provides plenty of scriptural support and uses excellent analogies. He gives many actual, albeit safe, disclosures from from his own life. You almost get the sense that you are having a personal one-on-one conversation with him. One of the things that I really liked is that at the end of the each chapter, he gave a list of resources that a person could go to for additional information, as well as a list of thought provoking "think about it" questions. Those questions make this an excellent book for a small group discussion or personal reflection.
The Only Way to a Fruitful and Fulfilling Christian Life.......2005-07-10
Learning to walk with Christ is the adventure of a lifetime! It is, indeed, the reason we were made, and makes our lives full of purpose! To know Him intimately involved in each day makes even the trials that come have meaning, realizing that good can come from all that is allowed to touch us. It gives us hope and comfort knowing He is with us at ALL times, guiding and making the way for us, even when we cannot see anything except what is right in front of our eyes. Knowing He has all things under His control gives peace and comfort. He sustains and encourages, because He loves us more dearly than we can imagine and wants only good to come from even the adversities. Growing more deeply into Him, becoming completely dependent as children, makes us ripe for His best use of our lives, as others see Him shine through us. There must be more of Him and less of us. This book has changed my life and led to more answered prayer than I ever dreamed possible, even supernatural interventions that only He could have arranged or accomplished. Thus, I now have intimate stories of my Savior, Who leads me beside the still waters, even through the storms of life. That, and I am presently disabled from a series of traumas, but at peace, knowing I am in the center of His will for my life, surrendered to His Plan.
Excellent Guide for Being Transformed by the Holy Spirit.......2004-12-09
Dr. Stanley has written an excellent book encouraging readers to not be content with a self-satisfied life and instead be transformed by God's Holy Spirit and be used for His glory.
The book contains 18 chapters and are almost equally divided into three main areas:
1. Looking Up (A personal journey into the Spirit-filled life)
2. Looking Within (The ministries of the Holy Spirit in the believer)
3. Looking Ahead (The Holy Spirit's role in decision-making)
Stanley's underlying point throughout the book is that the believer can only experience a totally joy-filled life when truly under the leadership and authority of the Holy Spirit.
Read, enjoy, and be challenged!
Informative and Inspirational.......2003-06-10
Dr. Stanley provides insights that help a Christian to tap into the abundant life described by Jesus in the Gospels by showing them how to apply priciples that work. For example, he writes "you will enjoy exercising your gift. You will look forward to the responsibilities you are given that call on you to use your gift" (p. 137). In other words, being all that God intended you to be is an exciting adventure of discovery. It enables a person to discover who they are and the God who made them.
In making a point about God's sovereignty, Dr. Stanley notes "the Holy Spirit decides who gets which gifts" (p. 134). As a result, the person is seeking to discover what God has already put in place in his or her life. The adventure continues as one uses those gifts for the kingdom of God and His purposes.
