Book Description
SCENE DESIGN AND STAGE LIGHTING, Eighth Edition, continues its tradition of being the most detailed and comprehensive text available in the scenic and lighting design and technology fields. Much of the scenery design and technology section has been re-worked with an emphasis on modern technology. Changes in the lighting section reflect current practice and technology. The authors have placed an emphasis on collaboration in all sections of the new text. "Designers at Work" interviews with professional lighting and scenery designers are a new addition to the Eighth Edition. In addition, the entirely re-written section on sound for the theatre reflects the digital age we live and work in.

An indispensable reference book for all theatre techies !.......2000-04-12
Working backstage? Asked by your local community theatre to pitch in doing props? Foolishly said, "Of course I can build a tree(Silly fool only God can)! Here are the helpful hints and clues that will point you in the right direction without looking like a total fool. Design, construction, lights and sound- Oren Parker has it all. This latest edition is my third copy! They just keep getting better and better. This "rumor" best explains the abilities of one of the authors. A colleague once related the story in which Oren Parker showed up in the university scene shop in a three piece suit, painted a full back drop and walked out without a drop of paint on the suit. I'd be interested in knowing how true this is but not any less impressed with how informative this book has been for me. Well worth the exorbitant price.
Invaluable guide for novices and professionals.......2000-04-06
I can't tell you how often I've found myself saying "I'm a carpenter, not a designer!" when asked to design a set. I've always muddled through, but now, with this book in hand, I've found 100% more confidence in my designs. Invaluable for the lighting designer who wants to better understand scenic design, and for the scenic designer who wants to understand lighting design. Buy it!
Book Description
This is a comprehensive survey of the technical and design aspects of play production, including scene design and construction, lighting, sound, costume, and makeup. Health and safety precautions for the backstage crew appear throughout in boxes labeled “Safety Tips,” and “Design Inspiration” boxes show how professional designers create the desired look.

Usefull text.......2006-02-20
I'm a lighting design major in college, and no matter what I take a class in, Gillette's book is the standard must have for all tech (and acting) majors. It's a requirement for stage tech 1, and then is used again through out the college carreer, and I have heard people even refrence it after they graduate. The best places to start for new techies are this book, and the 'backstage handbook'
EXCELENT!! VERY COMPLETE.......2005-10-11
I think its an amazing book! very complete, it tells you about the roles of every one involved, the make up, scene design, construction, sound, costume and lighting, so if you are serious about becoming an excelent theatrical designer and producer, then this is the best place to start!! from here you can buy other books, but this is a must have!
Huh?.......2005-01-11
Hi I am 11 and I want to make props for my film!Is This the right book?It looks exspensive but is it worth it?I need a book and fast!
Excellent Textbook.......2004-10-09
This book is an excellent starting point for students interested in theater. It covers all of the major topics: scene design, construction, lighting, sound, costumes, and makeup. I would recommend it to all students and teachers.

Book Description
The CMOS technology area has quickly grown, calling for a new text--and here it is, covering the analysis and design of CMOS integrated circuits that practicing engineers need to master to succeed. Filled with many examples and chapter-ending problems, the book not only describes the thought process behind each circuit topology, but also considers the rationale behind each modification. The analysis and design techniques focus on CMOS circuits but also apply to other IC technologies.
Customer Reviews:
Every designer in my company has this book.......2007-09-17
This is by far the best book for analog designer. The only thing I wish to see is to include some simulation examples such as: AC analysis, noise analysis...
Also, as the technology moves to sub-micron, long channel approximation is no longer accurate. I wonder if author can comment on how to size the transistors for fewer spice iterations.
Maybe we will see them in the 2nd edition.
Grown appreciation.......2007-06-02
The more my knowledge grew, the more I have appreciated returning to this book as a reference compared to any of the others. Razavi's explanations are lucid and directly to the point allowing me to quickly recall/re-understand concepts that I either once grasped and forgot or never really understood in the first place.
It is OK. There could be better ones.......2006-11-12
I have used this book in a graduate class. It is good and very rigorous. It has good amount of examples and plenty of end of chapter problems. It is a good treatment of the subject. However, it might be hard as introductory.
Disappoiting.......2006-03-07
The book is too theory-oriented; not suitable for engineers. I felt disappointed.
And the chapters on PLL and switched-cap. are too common-sense! No use at all for practising engineers...I don't want to recommend this book -
Great book........2006-01-29
Difficult Side
Read Sedra/Smith book before trying this one. It is really hard to follow. It's hard to differentiate between small and large signal analysis, since author uses the same notation for both. Watch out!
Good Side:
Book is on CMOS analog ICs, so it's specific.
Book is very thorough. Behzad Razavi explains the function of each resistor in a circuit. Book teaches on a high level. Author put in much effort.

A little review.......2007-06-01
This book is a stunning pictorial record of Aronson's life-works. A densely packed book with an interesting narrative supplied by Frank Rich, this is a MUST for Musical Theatre lovers. The final chapters reveal the amazing talent Aronson brought to Sondheim's Golden period. The photographs of the stage design of COMPANY,FOLLIES,A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and PACIFIC OVERTURES are to die for. An incredible book.

The book I ordered was delivered with speed and is in excellent condition. My thanks to the seller. I look forward to our doing it again.
Stagecraft Handbook.......2006-03-11
Item was as described. I wish there was a book like this that focused more on the stage construction of movie sets.
Perfect Tool.......2004-03-11
This is a wonderful book, perfect for the beginner and intermediate. Clear and very helpful. Highly recommended.
A Great Sourse for Carpentry and Scene Design.......1999-04-03
I have worked in the theatre for a number of years in every capacity. As a scene designer and carpenter, I have found Ionazzi's Handbook to be a valued tool. I use it everytime I design, it can be found right along side my drafting tools. It's one of the best soures on this suject out there! I highly recommend it to the novice and seasoned designer and carpenter!
A very good book for the beginner or seasoned set builder.......1999-01-24
From the beginning, this book takes you step by step into set and scene building. It starts with the basic inventory of tools and space needed, to recommended shop lay out and flow of construction. Included from the start, are safety practices that are recommended to keep you and your helpers leaving each day with all fingers, eyes and etc. in-tact. Each chaptor that follows takes very logical and precise steps to show basic set building. This goes on to more complex (but very useable) technigues and then puts them together. Also included are variety of stage props that can be made. I have been a stage manager and set construction designer and builder for a childrens theatre group for a number of years, and I use this manuel as my main source and refer to it over and over. As part of the production with the children , it is a requirement for parent involvement which includes help with set construction- this book has proven to be of tremendous help for the parent helpers to use as resourse also. I highly recommed this book as a reference book for any scene shop.

Very informative about staging.......2007-04-05
I was very impressed with the information within this book and CD!!! She shows you how to do it on the CD. It's a must read if you are planning to sell your home. I wished my realtor told me about staging my house. It makes a huge differences in how one presents their home for selling. You need to give your home that model home look for a quick sell and your asking price.
Home Staging or Redecorating...this is the book.......2007-01-22
I bought this off the web with little insight into the contents. I actually purchased the book with the DVD, but haven't even had time to look at the DVD yet because I'm still trying to absorb the wealth of knowledge in the book. Great photos! Awesome content (read the blurbs), I have definitely been able to absorb more knowledge from this single book than all of my decorating and home staging experience up until now. This book is a must-have for everyone who loves their home or is in the need of staging. This is a must-have for Home Stagers as well, with incredible ideas I would otherwise not have thought of that are easy and inexpensive, but look fabulous! BUY ME NOW!
Peggy's Corner: Staging Your Home for Profit.......2007-01-19
I bought this on a whim - thinking it would probably be "light." Even though it is an easy, fast read, it's actually very helpful, well organized and covers new information from other staging books I've purchased. The CD is a bit amateur but again, covers the information and has great examples. I'm glad I have it in my library and I've put the information to use, successfully, already.
The ideas in Peggy's staging book work magic.......2006-07-22
Peggy recently staged our home to get it ready to put on the market. Our home was beautifully furnished and well cared for, but dated. Peggy, using the ideas outlined in her book, made suggestions of things we should do to make our home look up to date and ready to put on the market. We were amazed at the transformation that Peggy's simple changes made to our home. As a matter of fact, we liked the new look of our home so much that we would have had second thoughts about selling it if we hadn't already bought another house.
Thanks to Peggy we sold our house in less than 2 weeks in a very slow market. Three houses of the same model as ours have been sitting on the market for many months and still haven't sold. The ideas in Peggy's book really work!
Great primer for staging your home.......2006-06-20
I loved the format of this book/DVD. The book is divided into a chapter per room, with tips on staging that room. While all of us may not have a pool house or guest quarters, the rest of the information is given in easy-to-follow checklist format. The DVD is the best part. The first part of the DVD is a little boring, but the last part (where you actually watch Peggy as she step-by-step stages a home from scratch) is extremely helpful. If you're looking for some quick and easy staging tips, this is the book/DVD combo for you. I finished the book in 30 minutes and the DVD takes 45 minutes to watch.

Book Description
This text provides thorough coverage of design principles for distillation processes. It contains an up-to-date presentation of process and equipment design procedures, highlights limitations of some design methods, and offers guidance on how to overcome them.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Reference.......2001-02-01
This book is must for process engineer esp. engineer in Petroleun and Refinery business. Written in very lucid manner shows the author is not only technically competent but has extensive experience in the industry. His book on " Distillation Operation" is also highly recomended.
Book Description
This process-oriented text—supplemented by 280 illustrations—is structured to provide students with a proper and practical approach to the development of drafting and related skills for the theatre.
Dennis Dorn and Mark Shanda emphasize the standard drafting and designing practices of the theatre industry through a series of projects and exercises that help the student in the development of research skills. The early sessions focus on the basics of lettering, tool introduction, geometric constructions, orthographic techniques, soft-line sketching applications, and dimensioning and notation skills. The authors also stress such ancillary skills as time and material estimation, shop-drawing nomenclature, and simplified drafting techniques such as pin graphics, theatre-drafting standards, and CADD processes.
Customer Reviews:
It could be better.......2001-11-13
This book does offer a lot of basics when it comes to theatrical drafting, but there are quite a few mistakes both within the text and in the worksheets given. It would be much better if updated.
A Good Resource.......2000-01-28
This is a fine text for anyone needing help with establishing assignments for a drafting course (for scene designers). Other than a few typographical errors, this is a great book. I wish it would be revised and updated.
Very good for the beginning drafter.......1999-04-25
We use this book for my Drafting class at Southwest Missouri State, it is very good. I like the worksheets and projects that are available for further comprehension of the drafting process.
A Great Learning Guide.......1999-04-01
This book fills in all the details missing from the basic theatrical drafting course, focusing on hand drafting, not CAD systems. Great for scene and lighting techs, but uses many of the same techniques as architectural drawing. Includes worksheets to practice on and explains everything clearly and with humor. Buy it!
Book Description
A newly repackaged edition of the first book in a series that has sold more than 600,000 copiesA favorite of parents, educators, and therapists since it was first published in 1978, more than 200,000 copies of this first volume from the "draw-from-your-imagination" books have been sold around the world. Praised as "extraordinary, revolutionary" (Newsweek), "imaginative" (The Christian Science Monitor), and "great stuff" (Detroit Free Press), this innovative series has continued to spark the creative impulses in children for years.
Customer Reviews:
Flashback.......2007-08-09
I remember having one of these books when I was a kid. And now, twenty years later, I have another one. I love it.
Fabulous for 9 year old.......2007-02-03
My son is 9 and absolutely loves this book. We've limited it to one activity a day so that he doesn't finish it too quickly (there are only about 35 or 40 in the book). I would recommend this book for any creative child - we will definately be buying more in this series.
" What should I draw?" .......2006-12-30
Many times kids want to make something but don't know where to start. These books get the creative juices flowing. I loved them when I was a kid and now both of my kids love them.
Fond memories from 2nd grade.......2004-05-04
After recess every day we would be given a page from the Anti Coloring book and allowed to draw to our hearts content for half an hour. It was one of my favorite times of the day.
Two thumbs up, most definitely!!.......2004-03-02
As a parent and former early childhood educator, I am pleased to write this review. In a day and age when entertainment does not require much thought process from our young ones (i.e. video games, pointless television shows, computer software, etc.), it is very refreshing to stumble upon the Anti-Coloring Book. Our children are exposed to endless amounts of effort-free fun stuff; and ultimately, young minds become lazy, trained, and forgetful of the power of imagination. How can you say no to a product that fosters developmentally appropriate learning, and promotes self awareness, self confidence, self expression, and independent thinking?? Help your child to break free from the lines and boundaries that hold them back. Kudos to the creators... it's time to get real about our children's needs!

Order at a lower price.......2006-07-07
This and all the other Jean Hunnisett Period Costume titles can be ordered directly from the publisher, Players Press, Inc., Studio City, CA for ONLY $59.00 each.
Ah, yes, grid reference............2004-05-26
I received this book as part of a group of textbooks received for my costume design course at FIDM. I used a nice, red, ballpoint pen (this would've been 1990, y'know, before acid/lignin-free - and especially non-bleeding - pens were freely available) to mark out my ten-grid grid. Anyway, I used the Phoenix (Elizabethan or Jacobean) corset pattern to make one of my projects, and it turned out beautifully (if only it still fit me!). I also drafted a Tudor corset from one of the patterns, and we did a panier petticoat from this text as well.
You might say the book is well-loved. Really, really, well-loved.
Which, I would think, goes far in stating how useful this book is, and how much information, especially in the form of period patterns, is available within. I couldn't have done without it, and I don't think anyone else should have to.
very useful book.......2001-08-09
When I look at the few period costumes I made (I'm only a beginner), I really think this book helped me to improve my cutting abilities, sewing tips and above all, the authentic period feeling when the garment is worn and moves on stage. Jean Hunnisett tells you what you're expecting to find at the end of your work and helps you to understand the historical background of period costume. This is the only book which explains in detail the draping method over a corset and guides you step-by-step in the construction of the costume but it is sometimes a bit confusing in her sewing instructions and she gives the impression there's only one way to realize something (ex: 18th century corset). Anyway, I learned a lot and she's a very good teacher. (Don't be tempted to enlarge her scaled patterns,it doesn't work very well( too many corrections) and it's easier to make your own patterns by the flat or by draping.)
A must have for theatrical designers!.......2000-01-07
This is a superb tool for any theatrical designer/period pattern maker! Jean Hunnisett's experience with the BBC is unmatched and this book is the standard of perfection. It's a clearly defined guide for the correct shape and cut of any era of costume, whether it be Tudor or Georgian. The information and tips that she 'unlocks' will give you a total sense of what each garment should look like in complete detail, with outstanding illustrations and descriptions, from the draping process, fitting, constructing, and trimming. Jean Hunnisett is a master in her craft, and her attention to period accuracy is clearly shown in all three books.
An excellent resource for the serious costumer.......1998-09-22
Hunniset gives scale patterns of garments that are functional and provide a period sillhouette from the foundation up. The scale is something you have to be careful with, however, because different patterns are drawn on different scales. This book is for the experienced sewer and should be considered a technical manual rather than a research resource but I have not found its equal in clarity, correctness and completeness. I reccomend the whole set!
