Journey of Souls is a controversial yet inspiring investigation of the big question we all face at one point or another: "What happens after we die?" To find the answer, Newton opens cases from his private practice in which he hypnotically regressed his clients to a point between lives--after death, but before birth. Not only does Newton grapple with reincarnation, the spirit world, and the nature of the human soul, he also tackles equally sticky questions such as "Is there a Heaven and Hell?" and "What are ghosts?" Readers with a penchant for skepticism will balk at the lack of physical evidence to back up the claims in Journey of Souls, but the book remains a reassuring voice, affirming that our existence is not limited to the boundaries of our mortal flesh. --Brian Patterson

Do you find life frustrating and meaningless?.......2007-09-11
Have you ever wondered why we are here? What is our purpose? Who are we supposed to be with? What is the point?
This courageous book attempts to answer these questions through the ambitious effort of hypnotic recall through past-life therapy. Given the level of commitment and the consistency of the responses, Michael Newton paints a very credible picture of where we have come from, where we are going and why that answers many other questions of time and space.
It's a fascinating read for those with an open mind, and provides thought-provoking comfort to those who currently find life frustratingly meaningless.

This is an AMAZING documentation of subjects, each sharing insight to "life" after "life", spirit world, and each encouter is similar yet different. I would recommend this book to anyone who is intereted in the "after-life", rebirth, reincarnation.
I give all of Michael Newton's works 10 STARS!!.......2007-08-11
As someone who's spent the last 35 years uncovering and writing about my own past lives, and studying how the karma from each of them has played out in the events and relationships of my present life, I suppose I bring something of a unique perspective to Dr Michael Newton's extraordinary trilogy, "Journey of Souls," "Destiny of Souls," and "Life Between Lives." Even after uncovering three of my own historically identifiable, though far from famous, past personas, I was still frustrated that neither I, nor any of the writers I had consulted seem to be able to throw any light on the issue of what happens to us between lifetimes.
But then, I discovered the works of Michael Newton, arguably the most important and most fascinating accounts of this entire genre. By directing the focus of his subjects away from their subconscious and toward their super-conscious, it seems Dr Newton succeeded in accessing a spiritual dimension previously untapped by the vast majority of researchers in this field. Once there, he was able to painstakingly document over many years what is undoubtedly one of the most comprehensive, detailed and believable models of what takes place in the afterlife anyone has ever put forward. Most importantly, it portrays in very convincing terms just how each of us goes about planning and designing our future lives. And once we absorb such a concept it becomes difficult for anyone to fail to take responsibility for their own lives, even with all its challenges and disappointments.
As fate would have it, I discovered Newton's works just after reading "Same Soul, Many Bodies" by the prolific Dr Brian Weiss. In it he discusses his experiences with "future life progression" as a technique for inspiring and motivating patients to change the directions of their lives by revealing the potentialities awaiting them in future incarnations, if they can just make the right choices in the here-and-now.
Comparing the claims of Dr Weiss with those of Dr Newton seemed to leave me with something of a paradox, which was namely this: If Dr Newton was correct that when we die we return to the spiritual realm to take on the work of planning and designing our next life, how would it be possible for Dr Weiss to explore our future lives while we are still alive, since the planning process had not taken place yet?
To resolve this conundrum I decided to have a chat with my spirit guide, Prakash. He first reminded me that linear time is only an operable construct in the physical dimension, and that from the perspective of the spiritual realm all physical incarnations co-exist simultaneously in a moment of eternity. Therefore, it follows that all those between life episodes that Dr Newton describes likewise exist in that same simultaneous eternity. The only reason is seems confusing is because Dr Newton is exploring and reporting what appears to be a linear sequence of lives and their related planning episodes, which necessarily skews his perspective due to his viewing the information from his location here in this dimension of linear time.
This gave me an idea. From all of my past lives that I have explored over the last three decades, two have stood out as closely related, even though they were separated by 700 years. The first was my life as Genghis Khan's nephew Yegu, and the second was my life as Field Marshall Count Helmuth von Moltke (the younger), nephew of von Moltke (the elder), his uncle and namesake, the military genius and hero of the Franco-Prussian War who helped Bismarck unite the German Empire. In the first life the plan for me to succeed my uncle Genghis failed, but in the second I did succeed my uncle as Chief of the German General Staff prior to and during the initial phases of WW I. As you might suspect, von Moltke (the elder) was a reincarnation of Genghis Khan.
What occurred to me is that exploring the planning stages of these two incarnations in tandem would provide a rare opportunity to see this whole planning process at its most complex. Fortunately, Dr Newton's third book, "Life Between Lives" was designed as something of a do-it-yourself training manual for just such explorations. So I guess that will be my next project.

Inspiring and Insightful.......2007-08-08
I really liked this book. It was fascinating, compelling and by offering the clinical proof most of us need to believe in any kind of life after death, it was also suprisingly comforting. It's such a good read, once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down. Once you finish, you won't be able to avoid searching for answers about your own past lives. Definitely two thumbs up.
Easy Read.......2007-08-05
I am surprisingly satisfied with this book. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but it is well written and provides some good information that surely got me thinking about death in a different direction.

Past life regressions are fascinating to consider, but have you ever wondered what happens between lives? In Destiny of Souls hypnotherapist Michael Newton asks dozens of his own patients to describe their lives from the moment of death right up until reincarnation into this world. Newton described this journey in his first book, Journey of Souls, and now takes us back for a second trip that is described in infinitely more detail. Of therapeutic interest is how spirits contact the living to help loved ones they've left behind deal with their grief. Newton assures readers that they will reconnect with those who have gone before them, even their pets. He answers the full range of questions one could ever think to ask about life after death: How can a soul be in heaven and reincarnate at the same time? How are new souls created? How are souls who've done evil on earth punished? These and many other questions are answered with surprising congruity between respondents.
Book Description
In this fascinating sequel to his controversial and popular Journey of Souls, Michael Newton explores what happens to the soul after death. Among other topics of enduring mystery, he addresses angels, ghosts, reincarnation, why certain people are drawn together, and what lessons the soul is intended to learn, casting new light on life's events and relationships.

Deeper insight than the first book "Journey of Souls" , couldn't put the book down.
A more detailed "Journey of the Souls".......2007-06-13
Exactly as the subject line says.
Read "Journey of the Souls". If you like that one AND you are into research and detailed info, then this book is for you. If you were convinced by Journey of the Souls and are the type of person that does not like to be bogged down with details, then I'd skip this one... Well unless you want the complete set :)
I am glad I bought it and would buy book 3 if he writes one and it had more detailed case studies.
The Great Lesson of Earth.......2007-06-01
Like JOURNEY OF SOULS, this book is not some trivial, New Age potboiler. I read it cover-to-cover (and intend to do so again) and I have found it to be quite satisfying and believable. It goes into much greater detail than the first volume with many more case studies. An example of the further detail is the chapter on earthly spirits (nature spirits, ghosts, souls in seclusion, discarnates who visit earth, and demons or devas), and the chapter on soul specializations (nursery teachers, ethicists, harmonizer souls, masters of design, explorers...)
As I said before, I know some people are going to automatically reject it because it relies on hypnotherapy. They are going to assume that the hypnotist implanted false memories among his clients. At the very least, they are going to claim that networking between the 67 clients covered in these case studies resulted in the remarkable consistency among them. This does not appear to be the case. The author holds a Ph.D. in counseling and is a state-certified Master Hypnotherapist. He is aware of the common criticisms and he makes a believable case for why they do not apply in his work. I believed him.
Once again, the overall consistency between the 67 cases is remarkable. Different terminology and symbolism is occasionally used but it is obvious that the same things are being described. What we have is an orderly picture of classification of soul development and of the structure of the spiritual world. It is remarkably similar to that described in different language over the millennia by shamans, the Vedas, the Platonists, the Gnostics. It also reminds one of the experiences of Robert Monroe and of George Meek in more modern times. Yet, you do not get the impression that the author or his subjects were overly familiar with these teachings at the time of the sessions. It is like the spontaneous symbolism that Jung described as arising from the collective unconscious; only in this case the source is the hyperconscious- the realm of soul guides.
We forfeit our physical body after death but our eternal life energy unites with the force of a divine oversoul in an orderly progression. Our soul reflects a small portion of this oversoul that we call God.
As it clearly states near the end of the book, the great lesson of Earth is to overcome both planetary and private destructive forces in life, grow strong from the effort, and move on. But then earth isn't the only available learning ground...
Expands on First book.......2007-04-05
Mr. Newton expands on the work of his first book with plenty of new information. This book, as the first, is written based on information that Michael Newton has gained from hundreds of clients that have experienced life "on the other side", or in heaven. The first book guides you through the process chronologically after death, this book basically expands on the first without a chronological format. Has interesting new info, like, where do new souls come from? Are their pets in heaven, and if so, do we have access to them? Recommend reading his first book first, but it 's not necessary.

Offensive.......2007-08-19
I found this book to be offensive. The writer had a client who felt that she was a buccaneer in a past life and docked at port performing abortions for extra money. The author then told the client to apologize to the "children she killed" I mean really, what about the women "he" saved.
He then mentioned a man who alledgedly was having severe psychological issues due to the fact that his mother desparately wanted to abort him but couldn't due to living on a farm decades before and blamed the woman's wishing to abort to have caused the man's problems. Although I felt bad for the man, I really felt sorry for the woman who did not have a choice. The author did seem to subscribe to the "pro-life" mind-set which was a shock for someone who dumped Christianity, and for that I was glad I only got the book from the library and did not spend money on it
Interesting topic.......2006-11-13
This book brings case studies to light that deal with topic of only our bodies cease to exist, but our true selves continue on forever. The way it was presented left it up to the reader to decide their beliefs.
Essential.......2006-02-14
A life-changing (and life-saving) book. I read it and tried it - and it worked. I've been using it ever since, as have friends. It should be part of every educational syllabus.
Best Yet On the Subject.......2004-03-07
I am a hypnotherapist and have read many books on the subject of past life therapy and I think this is the best yet. Woolger presents a more realistic account of past life therapy than some of the other quick fix books that are out there. Unlike others I've read, he doesn't claim that simply recalling a past life cures you of your ills. Instead, he conveys his experience as a therapist, that regression therapy is often a long and challenging process, though one with rich rewards. One thing I especially like about his techniques is his emphasis on incorperating the body into the regression, as that is where much of the trauma is held. While some therapists recommend taking an "observer" position while reliving a trauma, he encourages his clients to reexperience it as much as possible and considers emotional and physical catharsis as keys to healing. It is an enlightening and inspiring book.
The REAL thing!!.......2001-03-23
After reading what is poular today as well as past writers (not naming names) I find that Dr Woolgers work is the most comprehensive approach to Past Life Therapy available. While many using hypnosis place an emphasis on recovering the memory, Dr Woolger's expereince is that the memory is the least difficult part of regression process, guiding the traumatic expereince and wound to the soul to resolution and healing is the cornerstone of his work. This is the piece, personally that I see lacking in other approaches. His work is founded in sound psychological AND spiritual principles and the ability to synthesize this and make it practical and accessable is clear in this book. After reading this book I had the ability to do some training with him personally and would recommend any serious student of this kind of work to try to do the same. At the very least, refer to this book as both pioneering and a classic in the field.

As our understanding and awareness of who and what we are advances through the grueling gauntlet of scientific process, we continually face a debilitating dilemma: we must simultaneously question everything and at the same time proceed as if we know something. As a result we continually battle ourselves, questioning the ground on which we stand while using that same ground to prove our questions irrelevant. It's a gift, then, when a writer emerges who will grapple with any of these battles at the event horizon between science and conjecture and take himself wholly into the fray, reporting back to us the subtle forces at work within the storm and how those forces play upon him and the subject he explores.
In Old Souls, journalist Tom Shroder manages this feat and hands us a volume that is considerable and engaging. Not only do we explore the work of a brave and committed researcher on the slippery slope of reincarnation, we are also treated to a remarkable tour of worlds foreign to us: human existence in post-war Beirut and in the depths of poverty in India. Through the entire journey, Mr. Shroder keeps the primary question lively, carrying the reader through to a closing bit of personal memoir that brilliantly ties the book together into a provocative whole.
Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, you can't help but appreciate Mr. Shroder's disciplined, scrupulously fair, and soul-searching explication. Along the way, we learn immensely about the process as it is revealed and a great deal about exploration itself. The book works on many levels, and readers will benefit from them all. --Donald A. Freas
Book Description
A riveting firsthand account of one man's mission to investigate and document some of the most astonishing untold phenomena of our time
All across the globe, small children spontaneously speak of previous lives, beg to be taken "home," pine for mothers and husbands and mistresses from another life, and know things that there seems to be no normal way for them to know. From the moment these children can talk, they speak of people and events from the past -- not vague stories of centuries ago, but details of specific, identifiable individuals who may have died just months, weeks, or even hours before the birth of the child in question.
For thirty-seven years, Dr. Ian Stevenson has traveled the world from Lebanon to suburban Virginia investigating and documenting more than two thousand of these past life memory cases. Now, his essentially unknown work is being brought to the mainstream by Tom Shroder, the first journalist to have the privilege of accompanying Dr. Stevenson in his fieldwork. Shroder follows Stevenson into the lives of children and families touched by this phenomenon, changing from skeptic to believer as he comes face-to-face with concrete evidence he cannot discount in this spellbinding and true story.

Past lives revisited.......2007-08-24
Anyone interested in past life regression and reincarnation will appreciate this book. It is the attempt by a medical doctor and a journalist to compile a list of personal testimonies from the least corruptable members of society (children). The reason children are target of this research is the fact that they are the most open minded and sincere in expressing themselves regardless if they are speaking to their family members or strangers. Creators of this research travel to Lebanon and India as well as across US to find cases where children claiming their past life can tell their story and the story can be substantiated either from the newspaper articles of known history from families and friends. It is an interesting attempt, but it raises more questions than answers. If every body has a soul, then where does the new soul go, if the old soul wants to enter the body in order to get reincarnated? We never really get an answer to that question. Why some "old souls" live life many times over while other souls live only once. Many books on reincarnation claim that soul will live as many lives as necessary until they complete their purpose, after which they turn into angel, or a spirit or any other spiritual entity knwon to spiritual world. This book does not talk about any of it at all. In many cases, incidences described in the book sound more of a curse than blessing for the child participant. The only feeling this book may rise in you is that you will either wish you are not someone else's reincarnated version of the themselves, or you will long for the fact that you do not recall being reincarnated at all - wondering for the reasons of why not.
Good Subject, Way Too Much Personal Narrative........2007-07-09
I kept waiting for the author to actually get to the point. He describes every little detail to absurdity. I want to know about the actual subject matter, not in vast detail about the car they drove, the room, etc. I'm up to page 46 and still just a bunch of personal narration. It's like watching Seinfeld, nothing has come together yet even close to the main subject. Like reading a phone book. Hopefully he'll eventually get to the real subject at hand soon. Way too much prologue.
Old Souls.......2007-05-30
Emphasis was placed upon the adjectives in this book. The stories were painted as pictures, so clearly that the reader is allowed to enter the interviews with each individual person. The wording and placement in time was so vividly evident that one could truly enjoy the content and develop interest with the beauty of the writing in itself. However, it is important to admit that the content of his stories and research, itself, was also highly interesting, intriguing, and eye opening. There were points of shock, slight points of confusion, and several points leading to "ah - ha," within the text. Tom Shroder, the first journalist to have been present with Dr. Stevenson during fieldwork studies, was fabulous at bringing you to a point, by way of lead and follow. He clearly wants you to understand how he arrived at conclusions, not allowing you to be judgmental without knowing his historical findings.
There were so many stories that appeared flawless, despite slight contradictions from the interviews conducted. The photographs shown, within the text also depict strong resemblance to the people who claim to have lived a past life to those who are alive at the time of question. The fascinating part of this was that Dr. Ian Stevenson made efforts to locate and meet the past life families of these individuals, well into his old age. He fought for answers, for as long as he was able.
I felt some confusion within the course of the book. It seemed to lead us to think that only the soul was transferred from one body to another body. It brought up the theory that the body was like clothing to the soul and could be changed without consequence, after death. However, later into the stories, the author seemed to show more and more about shared birth marks from the deceased to the new born person, and other physical similarities, not just mental transfer, but almost total all body transfers. I would like to know more about how much of a person, if truly possible, can be re-created in another body? Also, as Dr. Stevenson struggled to figure out, does the transfer of soul happen at birth? Conception? After birth? How does that soul chose its new body to belong to? Does the soul decide?
This reading has brought me into an entirely new world of interest. I plan to obtain more information within this subject for further education about the beliefs and research leading to reincarnation.
A bit redundant.......2007-04-01
There was a lot information in this book to disseminate. It could have been shorter. Interesting, nonetheless. Very provocative and rang true.
I MISS HER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-09
I bought this book because of my granddaughter. She is 4 years old and has spoken to me about a previous life. In this previous life that she speaks of her mother had died. When she talks about how much she misses this other mother she will say it with such strong deep sad feelings.
Reading "Old Souls" kept my attention through the whole book. I admire Dr. Stevenson dedication to his work. I feel that he has proved that there is reincarnation. As far as my granddaughter is concerned there is definitely something to what she says because I don't think a 4 year old could talk about a previous life with such deep feelings.

Life Between Lives.......2007-09-06
This book was a revelation.
I am an octogenarian and have been interested in his subject for many years. As well as providing confirmation for many of the ideas floating round in my mind, this book opened up several areas of thought which need to be considered. For those who have experienced "intimations of immortality" it could become required reading
I look forward to reading his later books in time.

Awesome Book .......2007-02-21
One of the best books I have ever read! The only ones that top it are his other two case study books. Very easy to read and so interesting you can't put it down.
Fascinating!.......2007-01-18
After I read this book, I found someone in my state trained by Mr. Newton and went through the regression myself. It was very spiritually enlightening and I got a lot out of it.
I believe that what he is saying is true. This book is mainly aimed at practitioners who would like to use this method of deep hypnotic life-between-lives regression, however those of us who are very interested in the topic will want to read it.
5 stars. This book is wonderfully written and brings to the table the author's vast, pioneering research and experience in this emerging field.
Read the other two books first.......2006-12-26
This is more for the faciliator of LBL therapies, which is why they use it in the workshops around the world. The first two books soak you in glorious case studies that will answer your every question about what goes on in the afterlife and why we are here. This book gives the therapist the scripts to use to get the memories flowing during the hypnotic state and several helpful diagrams of how the author interprets various soul scenarios. It was worth buying for the list of Spiritual Principles in the back pages which neatly sum up what Dr Newton has discovered in his thirty or forty odd years doing soul regresssion work. He references a lot to Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls for detail, so better to have read them first.
I do wish, though, he had mentioned more on the machinations of deepening trance states prior to accessing soul memories at the superconscious level. That is left for the workshops (for which I am saving my pennies). He alludes to extensive seaside or forest visualisation in Destiny of Souls, so I am putting it together. Otherwise, there are basically verbatim scripts to use throughout to access the memories of the between lives state.
As I said before, more of a text for the interested therapist. Must read Journey and Destiny first.

Song of the Phoenix is one of the most uplifting and positive books I've ever read about the afterlife, and it goes well beyond seances or transcriptions of a medium's revelations. Song of the Phoenix is a praise for those who have traveled into the next realm. If you experience concern for loved ones who have entered the Summerland, or fear toward your own death, you will find comfort and inspiration in these messages from beyond the veil. While I'm not insecure about death, this book still left me with a feeling of joy and a smile on my face.

Life after death.......2003-08-19
A friend lent this book to me because my brother is dieing and she thought it might help.
Although this book is not about religion, it reaffirmed my faith in God's All-powerful Love. It also explained Heaven add hell to me in a way I could understand it.
"Song of the Phoenix" has Universal Truth's no matter which religion you practice. Thank you, Lily Fairchilde, for writing this book and thank you, Julie, for lending it to me.
A true ode to the phoenix.......2000-06-29
Its been some time that I've been on this philosophical kick, so when I happened to chance by the "Song of the Phoenix" I kind of picked it with slight cynicism towards the subject. But boy! was I in for a surprise. This book, given the subject has amazing clarity of thought, and a purity and innocence about it, which I just could not negate. I can say this much that I am more of a believer now than, I was before I read the book. Moreover, it actually influenced me to bring to fruition my long drawn wish to do some community service, back here in India.
Thought-Provoking and Comforting.......1997-12-04
Having dealt with the loss of my mother about two years ago, I have questioned the existence of life after death. On a lark, I purchased Lily Fairchilde's book and was amazed by how much it affected me. Ms. Fairchilde's contacts with the dead are informative, fascinating and completely absorbing. She has converted a non-believer into a believer.

Book Description
Working as a journalist for metaphysical publications for more than three decades, author Roy Stemman has investigated the most heralded occurrences of reincarnation. In One Soul, Many Lives, he brings together an impressive body of physical evidence and a fascinating collection of accounts he has gathered from interviewing people all over the world.
In case after case, One Soul, Many Lives engages the reader with the remarkable story of someone who believes he has lived before. In addition to testimony by reputable and trustworthy individuals, One Soul, Many Lives draws heavily on the work of eminent scientists to authenticate its compelling stories.
The evidence supporting the stories includes a young boy with scars on his head that precisely match the autopsy of the murdered man he believes he was in a former life; individuals whose illnesses and phobias can be traced back to a past life and healed; and people who can speak a foreign language fluently during regression.

dissapointing.......2007-03-03
An amazon marketplace seller accidentally sent this used book to me, so I perused it out of curiosity before sending it back. What struck me was how un-striking the "striking evidence" was. Furthermore, there has been a lot of scientific research recently that flies in this face of this "evidence". Several different stimuli (high-G-force and electromagnetic stimulus of the brain) can readily produce near-death symptoms ("floating" or "tunnels of light"). Additionally, people like Penn & Teller, James Randi, etc., have shown how easy it is to convince yourself and others that past lives are real. Therefore I would expect a modern book on this topic to address these aspects, in order to be "striking". This book's "striking evidence" is basically just 20th-century hear-say.
A BOOK Full OF Other Book's Stories.......2006-12-26
After just reading several book on Reincarnation this week I felt a bit cheated by this book. It is well written and as the other review says it is a good book for someone who is just starting out reading about this subject. I had just read Ian Steven's book and his cases are in this book, just not as detailed. Jenny Cockell's Yesterday's Children is also here as well as Brian Weiss, and about 20 other authors as well. I was expecting a "Fresh" book with new stores, new research not a book about other books. It is like picking up a herbal book and seeing the same book repeated over and over as I have been the unfortunate victim of by authors who cannot do their own research for. The author repeats that he is the publisher of a reaincarnation magazine (I cannot find) so his stories are all from sources not his own. Get it from a library or buy it used.
Okay, but not the best.......2006-09-27
If you're just getting into reading about reincarnation, this book is probably a good place to start. Many sources are mentioned and compiled in one volume of very interesting stories.
However, if you've already done some reading on the subject, you'll probably find that many of the stories are familiar. People who've been into reincarnation for a while would probably do better to read the books that these stories are taken from.
The book is also riddled with typos, so I'm not going to give it any more than 3 stars. In the era of spell-checking software, there's no reason for any book to spell "was" as "wass".

Book Description
For the past forty years, doctors at the University of Virginia Medical Center have conducted research into young children's reports of past-life memories.Dr. Ian Stevenson, the founder of this work, has always written for a scientific audience. Now, in this provocative and fascinating book, Dr. Jim B. Tucker, a child psychiatrist who currently directs the research, shares these studies with the general public.Life Before Life is a landmark work-one that has the potential to challenge and ultimately change our understandings about life and death.Children who report past-life memories typically begin talking spontaneously about a previous life when they are two to three years old. Some talk about the life of a deceased family member, while others describe the life of a stranger. They may recount details about previous family members, events in the previous life, or the way they died in that life. The children tend to show a strong emotional involvement with the apparent memories and often cry to be taken to the previous family. In many cases, parents have taken their children to the places they named, where they found that an individual had died whose life matched the details given by the child.During the visits, some children have recognized family members or friends from that individual's life. Many children have had birthmarks that matched wounds on the body of the deceased individual.Researchers have studied more than 2500 such cases, and their careful investigations have produced an impressive body of work.JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, stated in a review of one of Dr. Stevenson's scientific books that, 'in regard to reincarnation he has painstakingly and unemotionally collected a detailed series of cases . . . in which the evidence is difficult to explain on any other grounds.'Life Before Life explores the various features of this world-wide phenomenon, describing numerous cases along the way.We meet a boy in Michigan who, after being born with three birthmarks that matched wounds on his deceased brother, begins talking about events from the brother's life; a boy in Turkey who gives a number of accurate details, including the name, of a man who lived 500 miles away and died fifty years before the boy was born; and a girl in Sri Lanka who is able to recognize the family members of a deceased stranger as they are presented to her one by one, giving specifics about their lives that she could not have known from their appearance. Dr. Tucker presents this material in a straightforward way, relating extraordinary stories that have been amassed with a scientific approach. He then considers how best to interpret the evidence, and he lets readers reach their own conclusions-which, for many, will be profound.
Customer Reviews:
A humble man; a very good book!.......2007-05-17
I've learned that the more someone presses their opinion and tries to sell me something, the more I shouldn't trust that person. Jim Tucker is just the opposite. Frankly, he doesn't care whether or not you believe in reincarnation. He's not out to be the next Einstein or have his name worshiped by people for centuries to come. He's very much like Ian Stevenson; a humble guy conducting research on a very important topic; reincarnation.
Tucker presents some fairly convincing evidence, but that's as far as he'll go. Like Stevenson, he will not use the world "proof" and good for him, because it can't be proven. As Tucker says, this is not research one can do in a lab with tight controls in place. However, he says (and I agree) that the evidence does tend to point to reincarnation being true based on the 2,500 cases that have been amassed by Stevenson. Frankly, we know something is going on. Whether it's "superpsi" or some other psychic feat, who knows. But when a child can give several dozen names, places and be accurate on all accounts, it goes beyond coincidence. I believe in reincarnation, but I can't say for sure it exists. I do know that something paranormal is happening, whether it is tapping into the memory of another person or actually having been that person.
I consider Ian Stevenson to be one of the most important people of all time because of the research he has done and I'm glad to see Jim Tucker following in his footsteps.
Calmly Informative.......2007-05-17
This is an excellent, if rather dry, summing up of a body of evidence regarding reincarnation... or at least the evidence compiled by researchers associated with the University of Virginia. If it isn't as purely readable as Michael Newton or Carol Bowman (some of whose cases are in the book), it doesn't set out to be. The book's arrangement by scientific argument means that the cases are presented less as stories than as factual evidence, where some part of the information might be in Chapter 1 and another part several chapters later. On the other hand, viewed as information and not as narrative, it's hard to fault the book. Dr. Tucker calmly addresses and rebuts the arguments against reincarnation (at times, the counter-theories of those determined to accept any theory before reincarnation seem the more farfetched). If anything, Tucker - like Dr. Stevenson - is very conservative in his pronouncements. He dismisses hypnosis as evidence, and it would be interesting to read a discussion between him and past-life regression practitioners. There is little here about "between lives" or any attempt to map universal spiritual journey. The emphasis is on facts, to which the reader will add his or her own biases.
Sorry! Non-believer in reincarnation. .......2007-03-16
Not a fan of reincarnation. Think it's a misinterpetation of the evidence we have for reincarnation. I don't think we need to worry about being sent back. I'm pretty well convinced that it's just a misinterpretation of the evidence on our part. A made up story to try and explained a very complicated phenomena.
I do believe that sometimes children, who haven't developed a strong sense of "self" might tune into the memories of long dead people, or hypnotized adults might have their own sense of "self" turned off and thus access memories of long since dead people. Once children develop their own sense of "self" their minds quit tuning into other memories. Once adults wake up from being hypnotized their own "self" filter tunes out memories that don't really belong to them. As far as physical manifestations of reincarnation, I think that's simply an example of thoughts being things and consciousness creating reality, like in Dr. Fred Alan Wolf's book The Spiritual Universe. It's all related to the holographic nature of reality, connectedness, oneness, etc.
Marineboy said it best:
"I suspect that it is a time-based misreading of "interconnection". Also, when people say they felt that "I" had all these past lives, I think the I is not the I they think it is, but the I of interconnection, the I of universal presence incarnating in myraid forms everywhere. Because there are no absolute boundaries to this "I" it seems in an nde as if it is THEY personally."
An Interesting, yet Scientific Look at Reincarnation.......2007-01-08
Given my Lutheran upbringing, I've always been suspicious of claims of reincarnation. These feelings have been eroded lately with my study of Buddhism and a news report that I saw where a four year old boy clearly demonstrated memories of life as a World War II fighter pilot. As such, I was pleased to find this book. It's not your typical new age psuedo-science hodge-podge of anecdotal accounts, but rather is a legitimate scientific examination of the possibility of reincarnation, explored through children's accounts of past lives, usually starting around the age of 2 or 3 and fading around 7 or 8. Dr. Tucker has documented over 2,500 cases in countries all around the globe. He examines different types of accounts and attempts to address the various explanations for each.
While a book like this could come off about as exciting as reading the Yellow Pages, Dr. Tucker takes care to discuss interesting individual accounts in addition to explaining the results of his studies. If you have an open mind concerning reincarnation, this book will raise your awareness and provide you with the information necessary to develop your own informed opinion.
THIS BOOK DRAWS YOU IN ...... NEED MORE STARS!!.......2007-01-04
I am still reading it and have had trouble putting it down! I have many many books on this subject and most just left me feeling emply, needing more. This book is not that way! The people whose stories he write about glues you to the pages and make you reflect before reading on.
This is the kind of book that can change the way we think about living and life in general. The messages are full of hope and give me peace of mind. SO many people THINK they are living but they are just doing that, living, going about daily taskes mindless NOT experiencing the Fullness that life has to offer.
These Stories offered here open not just the heart but the mind as well and MAKE you think about why you are here and how you can improve life for others as well as your own..WELL WORTH THE READ!

Book Description
In December 1943, 20-year-old Army private George Ritchie died of pneumonia. Nine minutes later, he came back profoundly changed. In Ordered to Return, Ritchie briefly retells the story of that strange experience and then tells what happened later, including the real miracles that he has seen in his years of practice as a physician and psychiatrist.
Customer Reviews:
Some good messages.......2007-03-14
Didn't enjoy as much as George G. Ritchie's other book Return From Tomorrow, but this book had some good messages.
Very disturbed with this book.......2006-03-20
This book was a complete waste of money for me. Not only that, but I didn't even feel right about reselling it, so I threw it away. The author picked apart the Old Testament, saying the gospels are the only part of the bible to believe. He also talked about "Hell" as being a "realm" where the spirits of people who died were full of hate. He did not mention the fact that there is a real hell with fire, anguish and complete separation from God awaiting those who do not accept Jesus as their savior. He also said many other things that were way off. I have heard so many stories of after death experiences that all agreed, making them believable. However, his description wasn't even similar to the others. I was very disappointed.
Believable and Human.......2005-11-12
Dr. Ritchie's books are some of the most believable and rational of all the books on near death experience that I've read. He passes away at age 20 while not having realized his dreams as a young man and as his spiritual self as Jesus tells him during the near death experience. "What have you done"? Jesus asks him and it becomes evident that earthly accomplishment isn't what's at stake but what has Ritchie done for others in Jesus' name and spirit. He is sent back to and given a number of years to to accomplish more spiritually motivated things.
The author goes on to relate the trials of his young life which include having to struggle to get into and complete medical school. It's such a profoundly human story and Dr. Ritchie candidly shares his imperfections and mistakes.
He then goes on to put what he learned from the death experience into his psychiatric medical practice: the acceptance of others, the desire to help and assist in healing, humilty and warmth. I liked this part the best.
What I found refreshing is that this story doesn't seem to be as "far-out" as some of the other ones I've read. It's practical and I came away feeling comforted and uplifted. It might not take a NDE to live such an inspired life but for the author, it was his best life experience. I bought the book while experiencing grief over a death of someone close and found comfort in it. I gave it to someone else who was also feeling the loss and she hasn't been able to put it down. Dr. Ritchie is a profoundly warm, humble and eloquent writer who can inspire a re-dedication of purpose defeating the seemingly destructive force of death.
How reliable is George Ritchie?.......2005-05-05
George Ritchie had a near-death-experience in 1943, that is the only thing I do not doubt yet. But what about the rest?
There are remarkable differences between two versions of Ritchies report about his experiences during the Near Death Experience. In 1952 in a magazine he found a picture of new technology that he had seen during the NDE. In his book "Return from Tomorrow" Ritchie wrote that in that picture he had recognized every detail. But in a conversation with the famous reincation researcher Ian Stevenson he said that in the picture he had only recognized one of the instruments. This conversation is quoted completely in chapter 11 of Jeffrey Iverson's book "In Search of the Dead".
In "Return from Tomorrow" Ritchie tells about a Polish Jew. Ritchie had met him in a concentration camp near Wuppertal in April 1945. This Jew had been there since 1939 and nevertheless he could work 16 hours a day as a consequence of his love for people. Unfortunately there was no concentration camp however near or in Wuppertal in 1945. In internet one can easily find some information about a local concentration camp there during six months in 1933. There was a second camp about ten years later, about which the Encyclopedia Judaica (Jeruzalem 1972) reports: "A "branch" of the Buchenwald concentration camp operated outside Wuppertal in 1942 - 43." But no camp in 1945.
In his youth Ritchie was strongly evangelic. During his NDE he met the Great Light that many NDE-experiencers tell about. He interpreted Him as Jesus. In Ritchie's life the experience may have been the basis for a vivid way of being a christian, but unfortunately Ritchie seems to be a bit negligent about exact truth.
My Fav. NDE Books -I've Been There Too.......2004-01-01
One day in 1995 I died, and had a NDE. Ever since then, I've been reading everything I can on the subject. According to most stories I've read, I had an unusual one, not going down a tunnel, but experiencing many interesting phenomena all the same. It seems to me that there are some NDE books and magazine articles that are just hype, and published just to give recognition. I have found, through my many years and multitudes of books on the subject, that there is an underlining truth and spirit that pervades the true experiences. So, I have compiled a list of my best reads for NDE books - ones that I consider genuine and adding validating light to the personal NDE experience. I have left out compilations, these are personal narratives. I hope you enjoy them too.

Book Description
A record of past lives experienced through hypnotic regression
• Unlocks the primordial memory bank of planetary consciousness
• Explores the past lives of spiritual teacher Barbara Hand Clow at sacred sites during historical periods critical to the development of human consciousness
• With illustrations by Angela Werneke, illustrator of Medicine Cards
• First editions collectively sold 60,000 copies
Combined for the first time in one updated and revised volume, the three books of The Mind Chronicles Trilogy--
Eye of the Centaur,
Heart of the Christos, and
Signet of Atlantis--show that all the places, times, and beings we have ever known exist now in our memory banks. Using the mind state produced during 100 sessions of hypnotic regression, Barbara Hand Clow unlocks the primordial memory bank--the records of time in which all humans participate--offering readers critical information to reflect upon now.
In
The Mind Chronicles, Clow guides readers through 100,000 years of human history, using in-depth experiences of initiations and sacred ceremonies to illuminate the forgotten wisdom of our ancestors. She shows that this ancient knowledge, which is contained deep within all of us, is becoming even more relevant as the Mayan Calendar comes to a close and a new stage of evolution begins.
Customer Reviews:
Remember, this is non-fiction........2007-08-04
One can read this book on two levels--or perhaps two hundred. It is smoothly and well written, and for one reading with just the conscious mind, it is fascinating, absorbing, and a wonder of a book. On another level, I found myself reading it as a remembrance of things I had forgotten in the dust of ages past. Things I had forgotten, things half remembered, lifetimes lived and not fully explored. I found myself understanding the action in the book at levels far beyond the conscious mind. Some might argue that the product of past life therapy is a group of mind fantasies, and if they do, nothing is lost. As a past life therapist myself, however, I would question the mind's ability to produce something of the awesome depth of this book as pure fantasy. Not only does this book have a profound depth and a wealth of metaphysical, spiritual and philosophical understanding, but it renders that wealth in a supremely readable format. I would give this book 6 stars if that were available.
