A manual that teaches you accessible techniques to increase .......2007-08-20
I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I read it back to back! I found this
book to be very helpful after my partner and I broke up. I was on a
recovery to find out why the relationship did not work. Sex and the
perfect lover by Iam gave me very strong points as to what men are looking for and what women need to know about men, to become a perfect
lover. After this book I am sure NOW,either, I'll find my perfect
soulmate.
I never had better sex in my life.......2007-08-20
I received my copy yesterday, and have read it cover to cover. I am right now ordering several copies to give as a gift to my friends. Sex and the perfect lover provides you with techniques and exercises so that you can become a perfect lover. This is one of the best sex guide books that I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. There are hundreds of books like this on the market, but anyone like this. This is real book to help you in your sex life I never had better sex with any partner than after I read this book. I wasn't a bad lover at all, but now we are feeling really great! I can't imagine any man not being overly pleased and excited to find this book under your pillow! Every woman and man should own a copy of this book. The author relates her experiences of the Kama Sutra positions, Prolonged mental and bodily ecstasy easily kindled by lengthy stimulus on the sex organs. I undertand why this book was sold in India cause is The best sex guide and kamasutra book. I would recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in pleasing your partner.
Men: trying to learn how to last longer? This is NOT it.......2007-08-11
I hated this book, it was nothing but spiritual mysticism with NO, I mean NOT ONE, useful technique or clearly explained instruction, it's all very vague and if you're looking for sex techniques you can learn and apply this is NOT it.
junk.......2007-08-05
This is one of the worst books I've ever read. THEY DO NOT DELIVER ANYTHING THAT THEY CLAIM!!! I wouldn't pay .25 cents for this book.
Good Ideas.......2007-06-17
This book offers suggestions for different positions that we never tried before. Good for spicing things up. :)

As one of Gao Xingjian's characters remarks, if a fiction writer could know the true stories of the people he passes on the street, he would be amazed. Surely the Nobel laureate's own story, which forms the basis of Soul Mountain, is worthy of amazement. In 1983 Gao was diagnosed with lung cancer, the disease that had killed his father. At the same time, he had been threatened with arrest for his counterrevolutionary writings and was preparing to flee Beijing for the remote regions of southwest China. Shortly before his departure, however, the condemned man got at least a partial reprieve: a second set of x-rays revealed no cancer at all. On the heels of this extraordinary redemption, he began the circuitous journey that would lead him to the sacred (and possibly mythical) mountain of Lingshan--and to this daring, historically resonant novel.
A destination chosen arbitrarily, at the suggestion of a fellow traveler, the elusive Lingshan becomes rich with meaning for the narrator of Soul Mountain. Meanwhile, the narrator himself shows a tendency to go forth and multiply. First he divides into You and I. Then You generates yet a third voice, a somewhat simple but intense young woman named She, followed by He--and none of these personae can resist the elemental lure of the sacred site. Indeed, the search for Lingshan becomes a metaphor for all spiritual striving:
Would it be better to go along the main road? It will take longer travelling by the main road? After making some detours you will understand in your heart? Once you understand in your heart you will find it as soon as you look for it? The important thing is to be sincere of heart? If your heart is sincere then your wish will be granted?
Along the way, I and You mourn the devastations of the Cultural Revolution, when thousands of monuments, temples, and graves were reduced to rubble. The obliteration of these reminders of the dead becomes a torment to the narrators of the novel, who struggle to assert their individuality--itself a proscribed act in Communist China--against what they see as a false and brutal ideal that has swept away history, literature, and tradition as decisively as it has destroyed the ancient forests. (At one point Gao describes the sad spectacle of the few remaining pandas, who wander a shrinking woodland wearing electronic transmitters.) Seamlessly translated by the Australian scholar Mabel Lee, Soul Mountain is a masterpiece of self-observation set against a soulful denunciation of "progress" and practicality. --Regina Marler
Book Description
In 1983 Chinese playwright, critic, fiction writer, and painter Gao Xingjian (pronounced gow shing-jen) was diagnosed with lung cancer and faced imminent death. But six weeks later, a second examination revealed there was no cancer -- he had won "a reprieve from death" and had been thrown back into the world of the living. Faced with a repressive cultural environment and the threat of a spell in a prison farm, Gao fled Beijing. He traveled to the remote mountains and ancient forests of Sichuan in southwest China and from there back to the east coast, a journey of fifteen thousand kilometers over a period of five months. The results of this epic voyage of discovery is Soul Mountain.
A bold, lyrical, prodigious novel, Soul Mountain probes the human soul with an uncommon directness and candor. Interwoven with the myriad of stories and countless memorable characters -- from venerable Daosit masters and Buddhist nuns to mythical Wild Men, deadly Qichun snakes, and farting buses -- is the narrator's poignant inner journey and search for freedom.
Fleeing the social conformity required by the Communist government, he wanders deep into the regions of the Qiang, Miago, and Yi peoples located on the fringes of Han Chinese civilization and discovers a plethora of different traditions, history, legends, folk songs, and landscapes. Slowly, with the help of memory, imagination, and sensory experience, he reconstructs his personal past. He laments the impact of the Cultural Revolution on the ecology -- both human and physical -- of China. And in a polyphony of narrating selves -- the narrator's "I" spawns a "you," a "she," and a "he," each with a distinct perspective and voice -- the novel delights in the freedom of the imagination to expand the notion of the individual self.
Storytelling saves the narrator from a deep loneliness that is part of the human condition. His search for meaning -- in life, in the journey -- turns up the possibility that there may be no meaning. The elusive Lingshan ("Soul Mountain"), which becomes the object of his quest, never yields up its secrets, but the journey is a rich, strange, provocative, and rewarding one. Soul Mountain is a novel of immense wisdom and profound beauty.

Customer Reviews:
a well constructed spiritual and cultural journey.......2007-09-01
Soul Mountain has elements of a spiritual journey and a cultural exploration. Translating such a work from Chinese is no doubt a challenge. As a result, much of the language doesn't flow. At times, the conversations between the speaker and these ghost-like female figures seem almost adolescent. The story and imagery manage to get through. The villages and people that turn up create the world outside, while the author's constant musings adds more depth, as well as illuminating his internal cosmos. It is sometimes difficult to separate actual characters from avatars, but that mystic quality gives the book its flavor. The power of the Yangtze, the dust of the country roads, the quaint, strained apartment of a girl--all are very clearly conveyed. It is a story like no other. Portions do slow down with the avatars throwing fits or whining or yelling, but the remainder is very good. The cover painting nearly captures the essence itself.
Wonderful Wanderings of Goa Xingjian.......2006-05-31
If you've ever felt like grabbing your pack and disappearing into the mountains, then this is for you.
Xingjian is a rare breed of photographer, painter, poet and writer who manages to combine his talents to create a classic.
Having wandered the mountains of Japan myself, I often tried to jot down my thoughts as I went. A task better left to Goa Xingjian - the master.
tranquil reflections against a moving, Chinese landscape.......2006-03-31
The main character travels to a small mountain town where he meets a girl. She is working in a hospital there, escaping from a sad love affair. She agrees to go with him to Lingsan (Soul Mountain) for a few days. They go about making up stories about the people they see. He tells her about dragon dancers, bandits, mythological women, ghosts, grave robbers, hawkers, violent stories and romantic stories. As they fall in love with each other she becomes a storyteller herself, but the traits of her imagination are feminine - she talks about her own past, her love affairs, her desire for motherhood and emotional stability. The male character, at times appearing in a first-person narrative, is mostly concerned with tracing the disappearance of the old world of China, both from a cultural, ethnographic, and natural, ecological perspective. The traveller becomes a reader of the landscape, and the narrative is constituted by this effort to translate cultural and physical signs through the mediating axcis of the imagination. Experience of the world is important, but only in so far as it affects our perception in meaningful ways, helping us develop either a moral lesson or a deeper understanding of human complexities.
This way the narration progresses making up an ocean of violence and despair - the little stories acting like waves and making up a fragmented history. The contemporary re-presentations of folk culture are demythologized, subject to the ridicule of the masses and the blind, puzzled and ultimately rather ineffectual interest of the learned class. The translation of tradition and ancient history into our modern world is as problematic as the translation of affection between man and woman. When she decides to leave him, the main character consigns her to his memoroy, transforming the existence of the loved one into something as dubious as the country's ancient culture, with its rapidly eroding signs.
The narrative switching between the "I" and "you" personas in the main male character makes us think of the ancient time when the individual did not exist: "The birth of I derived from fear of death, and only afterwards an entity which was not I came to constitute you." The main character continues his journeys with no particular goal saving that of keeping moving. The same questions keep lapping his conscience: what is the meaning and purpose of tradition in our contemporary age?, how can we preserve our authenticity in a brutish world?, why is religion so detached from the passions?, why do we find such comfort in storytelling? Ultimately skeptical about love, the novel is nevertheless an ode to friendship, to the warmth of the acquaintances made and retained while "on the run", and to the sharing of information between people.
The main problem or interest is not to be found in history, which can be read however one chooses, but in what comes before history, the forgotten time before birth, from which the stuff of legend is perhaps derived. The rest is all a mockery of life. There is a vision of travelling as a form of forgetfulness, a way of entering that primeval time. It certainly is the means of projecting tranquil reflections onto a moving landscape. When the landscape is still, it is reflection that surges, climaxes, stops again.
The main character and the woman come together again towards the end of the novel. It is up to the reader to decide whether there has been a reconciliation or not, but by this time the reader - after 500 pages or so of serene reflections - wonders whether this reunion is necessary. After all, it could all have just been a dream...
Not for the concrete-minded.......2005-12-31
I read the reviews for this book, and despite the raves, had to stop reading it before I was finished.
The plot was too vague, and the "ingenious" gender changes of the narrator had no effect on me.
Moreover, the narrator refers to a "she." It seems the narrator develops crushes on many women, but doesn't often indicate up-front when he switches women.
I'm concrete-minded, and to me, this whole book was somewhat intangible.
It may be genius to the abstract-minded, but if you're like me, skip it!
autobiography? semi-autobigoraphy? travelogue? fanstasy? novel? ethnography?.......2005-09-24
I started reading this book because the title 'Soul Mountain' seemed very evocative. I ended up reading a work that exceeded my initial expectations of it.
This semi-autobiographical travelogue, if I may call it that (this work defies easy characterization in terms of genre), is based on the authors five-month travels in peripheral provinces of China among the Miao, Yi, Jiangsu, Tibetan, and Qiang people.
The author mixes this with his fantasies and day-dreams and philosophical reflections on a wide range of topics - men and women, history, nostalgia, madness, loneliness, pain, archaeology, nature, conservation, environment, Buddhism, Daoism, occult, sorcery, banditry etc.
The novel has two interwoven streams - one is the authors fantasies of woman and the other is his travel experiences.
In a writing style that seems a curious mixture of that of French and Chinese writers, the author gives poetic descriptions of pain, wonder, astonishment, degradation, fear, terror, hunger, fatigue, nature, folk songs, history, ruins, personalities, childhood, sex and so on.
The novel is not a story but a road novel. It does not have a beginning, peak and climax. It is a journey - always begun and never ended.
I have read about thirty of so 'classic' novels. This one stands out as the most memorable, although this is my subjective opinion.
There is no plot to describe here, but everyone will find a lot to identify in this novel.

Average.......2007-06-28
There is nothing wrong with the recipes in this book but they are boring. I could (and have) put them together without the expense of this book. If you are new to diabetic cooking, this book may be helpful. However, if you are an old hand, forget it!
Look for a recent publishing date...not this book.......2007-06-20
I bought this book hoping I could eat a little better, since I have "elevated blood sugar levels" but I think most recipes in this book would give me "elevated cholesterol levels" instead. At its publishing date I'm sure it was better than what most people were using to cook with, but we now know that margarine is full of the bad stuff that clogs our arteries, and just about every recipe seemed to have that as an ingredient. So if you're looking for healthy cooking, this isn't the place to start. I suggest finding a book with a publishing date of the last few years, that would have taken into consideration trans fats and our need to eliminate them.
Gives good information for new diabetics.......2007-06-15
I have yet to make anything from the recipe section of this book, so I cannot rate the results. However, the first part of the book gives a great overview for those newly diagnosed with diabetes. Being someone who loves to cook, I also like that the information given has taught me how to adjust my old favorites to fit my new lifestyle. A good purchase thus far.
Not great for me.......2007-04-21
I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes. My nutritionist basically told me to watch my carbs, but dont limit my fat/salt/etc at this time. I bought this along with a Betty Crocker Diabetic Cookbook Everyday Meals Easy as 1-2-3. I am glad I bought the other one. It has pictures and is much easier to navigate. In my case the New Diabetic cookbook spends too much time on diabetes information and isn't as appealing for meals. Great for someone else, just not me!
Disappointed...........2006-11-01
I wanted a diabetic cookbook because my husband and my mother (who lives with us) are trying to eat healthier. I thought following some of the diabetic recipes would be a good healthy, sensible way to eat. I didn't realize that about 1/2 of this entire book is information about diabetes.... the other half is recipes. We don't need all the technical information on diabetes. If you are looking for info on diabetes, then this is definitely the book for you. But if you are looking for healthy diabetic recipes only, this is NOT the book. I wish I had known before I had purchased this book that it is an information first/recipes second book.
Book Description
A world-renowned Pomo basket weaver and medicine woman, Mabel McKay expressed her genius through her celebrated baskets, her Dreams, her cures, and the stories with which she kept her culture alive. She spent her life teaching others how the spirit speaks through the Dream, how the spirit heals, and how the spirit demands to be heard.
Greg Sarris weaves together stories from Mabel McKay's life with an account of how he tried, and she resisted, telling her story straight--the white people's way. Sarris, an Indian of mixed-blood heritage, finds his own story in his search for Mabel McKay's. Beautifully narrated, Weaving the Dream initiates the reader into Pomo culture and demonstrates how a woman who worked most of her life in a cannery could become a great healer and an artist whose baskets were collected by the Smithsonian.
Hearing Mabel McKay's life story, we see that distinctions between material and spiritual and between mundane and magical disappear. What remains is a timeless way of healing, of making art, and of being in the world.
Customer Reviews:
continues to resonate over time.......2005-08-18
This is just a wonderful piece of writing, one which keeps resonating with me, even several years after first reading it. This book should have more readers, and seeing so few reviews for it, I want to argue for it as a must read on anybody's list. We all know books or speakers, writers and lecturers who could take any subject and make it worthwhile, just to spend time in their company. Greg Sarris is one of those magical presences we can be lucky enough to get to know through the medium of the page. Saying this is not intended to undercut the amazing person of Mabel Mckay, by the way. The way the past present and future weave in and out of this book, her stories, Greg's life, the future of land use in California... all of this is here, an enticing mix of POV's, passed around like a sacred pipe.
A great read....
Great book.......1998-12-09
I read this book for an anthropology class that i am taking, and i found it to be very good. We get a first hand account of what role Mable McKay played for the Pomo Indians as a medicine women and as a basket weaver. Everything that she did was for a purpose, even though at times she had to deal with not everyone accepting her. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in Native American ways of life

From the bestselling author of Sex and the Perfect Lover comes a unique book that promises to improve your sex life rather than your figure.

In The Love Diet, bestselling author Mabel Iam guides readers through the steps that will help us create a deeper more loving relationship with ourselves, our bodies, but most importantly, our sexual connection with the person we love.
Written in a cookbook–style format, The Love Diet is filled with fun and easy to follow "love" recipes that will help readers build a real and meaningful sensual connection with their partner, helping them discover and explore their deepest sexual needs and wishes.
Through helpful advice, creative visualizations, meditations, and alternative therapies such as aromatherapy (smells) and cromotherapy (colors) the author helps lovers connect on a deeper level through laughter, love, and better yet, sexual pleasure.

I recieved this book en espanol... i do not speak and or read spanish... thus making this a rather unentertaining read! I would and should return this book, but the shipping would be more then i paid for it. Perhaps i should be more careful next time, and perhaps nows the time to learn spanish! I would like to hear how the book was in english?!
Wish I could read Spanish!!!.......2007-09-17
I received the copy I ordered to find out it was an edition written in spanish. I have read the book previously checked out from my local library and found parts of it to very helpful to the point that I wanted to hi-lite the parts with good advice in them for later reference.
I did send the spanish copy back to see if they will forward to me a copy in english. Oddly enough, I have been seriously considering learn spanish and obviously this is an good omen for me to pursue learning spanish.

Ridiculous!!!.......2007-07-13
This book is ridiculous. The advice she gives must be for pent-up housewives living in the 1920's, because I don't need someone to spend three pages categorizing the different types of kisses for me. There is absolutely no practical advice in this book.

The Adventures of Mabel.......2001-03-25
I remember reading this book over and over again as a child. I remember the tablature in the book, for the song that Mabel whistled to call the animals, and I remember playing the notes on the piano, so that I could memorize the tune in my head. I whistled that tune to every animal that I encountered for years, waiting for the magical response! I still remember the tune in my head today, and I have taught it to my daughter, hoping to find a copy of the book for her to read! I very nearly named my daughter after Mabel, because my memories of her are so vivid and wonderful!
Wonderful Book.......2000-04-25
I remember reading this book when I was nine. When I became a mother, this was THE book that stood out in my memory as a must have for my daughter. She is only a few months old, and already I am getting her a copy to hopefully pass down to her children some day. It is amazing how, decades later, I still remember the delight I got from reading these stories. I believe that any child that reads them can't help but end up make believing that they have these wonderful adventures, just like Mabel. These stories will delight a child's imagination and remain in their memory for years to come!
The Adventures of Mabel.......1999-12-11
This story was read to me in 2nd grade, and I thought it was the most beautiful and magical book I had ever read. It opens up a child's imagination, and makes you think you yourself are Mabel, having the wonderful adventures she does. It has been an EXTREMELY long time since I read this book, but I remember every detail vividly, as I will probably always do. I recommend this story to everyone, people of all ages. I will forever cherish the memories of this book in my heart.
A timeless Classic.......1999-04-27
This book was a gift to my great, great grandmother, shortly after it was written. She presented it, around 60 years later, to my very young mother. Since then, my great grandmother, grandma, mother, and uncle have read it. Eight years ago, when I was five, the century old, dog eared book was presented to me. I laughed, pondered and smiled with the book and Mabel. This child's story is a must-read for any one who is young, or young at heart.
Perfect for cuddle-up story time!.......1996-06-19
Because of her compassion for a trapped lizard king, a young girl is rewarded with a secret magic tune to whistle and has many wonderful adventures. I read this countless times as a child in its original version, and then as an adult, tried for many years to find it for my children. This reprinted version lacks only one illustration from the original, and is still just as magical. Each chapter is a new adventure, and each holds the reader/listener enthralled. Even though this was written over 100 years ago, the magic and wonder of childhood remain ageless. My personal favorite: Brownie Jelly

Book Description
Americans are gluttons for diet fads. The trouble is, trendy dietsno matter how effective in helping you lose weightusually fail when it comes to keeping the weight off. And most impose so many restrictions that they make eating a grim duty.
The G.I. Diet Cookbook pursues a much more enjoyable strategy. Its 100-plus recipes, created by British food celebrity Antony Worrall Thompson, emphasize satisfaction, not deprivation. The glycemic index focuses on the benefits of low-G.I. foods from every category, including carbohydrates. Because they're slow to digest, low-G.I. foods make you feel less hungry, allowing you to shed pounds effortlessly. And because the book's dishes are so varied and delicious, maintaining weight loss is easier than ever before.
The G.I. diet is rooted in sound nutritional principles that have long been used by diabetics to control their weight and blood sugar. But Thompson's culinary ingenuityand his devotion to preparing food that's as tasty as it is healthyhas transformed this formerly medical diet into one that everyone will find irresistible.

OK.......2007-07-12
Very good description of diet, but it goes on a bit and can get a bit confusing. I also wasnt overly blown away by the recipes, some of the ingredients a little hard to come back and when I see that I dont bother.
Too fancy .......2007-02-03
Many of the recipes require ingredients/spices that are not something a typical family would use.

Book Description
A Testament to the Great Spirit and Success of a Remarkable Woman Explorer
In the early 1920s, the last great age of world explorers, a remarkable young woman, Janet Elliott Wulsin, set out with her husband, Frederick Wulsin, for the far reaches of China, Tibet, and Outer Mongolia to study the people, flora, and fauna of the region. Janet’s strenuous, eventful exploration is detailed by a text enriched with excerpts from her candid personal letters. The journey proved to be a test of the Wulsins’ endurance and of their relationship.
While in Asia, the Wulsins took many extraordinary photographs, which form the heart of this richly produced publication. They documented tribespeople and sublime desert landscapes, and, perhaps most remarkably, were allowed to photograph the interior of several of the great Tibetan Buddhist lamaseries, many of which have since been destroyed. Several dozen rare, hand-painted lantern slides survived and are reproduced here in splendid color.
The photographs from the Wulsin expedition are now in the collection of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, in collaboration with which this volume is being produced.

Vanished Kingdoms.......2007-01-12
Fascinating book of adventure & discovery. For the reader the fact that the photographs, taken in the 1920s are gorgeous and outstanding, is a revelation for us. Also a very interesting human interest story is revealed.
I thouroughly enjoyed it and encourage others to take this journey to a world no longer available to us.
