Explotation Goodness.......2007-09-14
This book is an excellent companion piece to the two movies that were part of the in theater double feature collectively known as Grindhouse.
The book treats us to plenty of pictures of not just the lovely ladies, of which there are many, but of everything from the movie. Included is the script for Planet Terror along with plenty of commentary about the filmaking process and the support network of both Robert and Quentin.
Unlike other film related books this one is not a fluff piece, there is a lot of material between the covers and this book is definately worth reading more than once.
Awesome.......2007-08-24
It's everything I expected and more! Loads of pictures and information. Even QT's AMI playlist. I love it XD
What a Ride.......2007-06-27
Talking about the movie, the girl riding on the hood of the challenger was quite a stunt and I have to admit that it was original and very edgy.
The girls in this movie were well cast and Cherry is hot.I can't wait to buy the DVD, hurry up and release it!
Not sleazy at all.......2007-05-25
Great transaction! No SLEAZY here! The book is great. The shipping was super fast. Thanks a whole bunch!
Grindhouse: The Sleaze-filled Saga of an Exploitation Double Feature.......2007-05-18
fantastic book with interviews, heaps of behind the scenes info and photos, screenplay for Planet terror and the trailers a very comprehensive book for any movie lover

Great learning tool.......2007-08-24
A great lesson! I bought this book to refresh my memory of screenplay style as I begin to prepare writing my own. Tarantino is known for his dialogue between characters and that is why I purchased this. It was a good read and did not disappoint. I took away from it several lessons on screenplay style.
Do not be swayed by the Tarantino haters out there. If you want to learn style he is one of the best today. There are many that throw around the terms "boycott", "overrated", etc. I am still fascinated by the number of people that go out of their way to drag down Tarantino's work yet they still see his movies. You would think by now that they would have learned to just not watch them. In reality these people are just jealous of the success he has had. Tarantino very often is referencing other movies that he watched while growing up. He is usually not doing anything original but is instead giving a film history lesson giving us glimpses of the movies of the past.
Follow your own path. Make your own decisions and do not listen to the haters.
Sweet screenplay!!!.......2007-07-07
If you like Tarantino, you'll like the Screenplay he has written for Death Proof. Simple as that. Plus, it helps young screenwriters to know what to look for and what to do when attempting to write a screenplay of their own.
A great screenplay to a great film........2007-05-29
Wow. Tarantino does it again, and is still at the top of his game. Quentin took a break from his smooth dialogue in both Kill Bill films. But he returns and scores gold once again. I recommend this to anyone interested in Quentin Trantino.
"The woods are lovely dark and deep...".......2007-04-18
This is an amazing piece of screenplay literature to own! I am a music major and after reading this and viewing Grindhouse several times I am seriously considering changing my major to film. This is an amazing addition to your library as it weaves you in and out of action, horror and sex; the "100% Death Proof" Tarantino way.

Not just for the grill, problem solving techniques, darngood buy.......2007-09-02
While grill chefs will be very happy with this book, it has a broad appeal for all cooks. Take poultry. Poultry is actually more difficult to cook well then most beginning cooks realize. It is easy to overcook and dry out chicken, undercook and deliver unplesantly bloody chicken or just end up with bland results. This book provides the key to solve those problems through .....marinades, rubs, brines, cures and glazes. All of these methods can be used prior to or in conjunction with standard indoor cooking techniques. Try a brine before preparing your next pork chop in any manner
What I particularly appreciate it that the author takes the time to explain the reason the techniques work. He clarifies what can and cannot be expected from each technique clearing up much confusion on these top ics.The presentation of this material is easy to understand and informative. People who enjoy Alton Brown will enjoy this aspect of the book.
If you like, however, you can skip this material and go directly to the recipes. The recipe section is full of spice and herb combinations that are novel and imaginative, and that is coming from someoe who owns nearly 100 cookbooks.
Darn good buy.
Looking for more recipes on smoking meats and fish............2007-08-23
This is a good book for the price we paid.....however, we were looking for more recipes on rubs for smoking meats and fish.....
A VERY Scholarly BBQ Book.......2007-06-06
I have ALL the Raichlen books and quite a few other BBQ and grilling classics / how-to's etc.
Jim is not only a fascinating read from a food history / science point of view, but his recipes are very do-able, and delicious. Granted, I'm the kind of BBQ geek that reads these books cover-to-cover like a novel. But even the most avid BBQ addict falls into a rut, relying on the same old batch of rub and tried-and-true classics.
Tarantino's book inspires you to want to try new things. It would serve a newbie outdoor (or even indoor) chef well, but I recommend it most to the seasoned Griller / BBQer who has become lazy and needs some fresh ideas.
It's alright.......2007-05-26
This book contains TONS of recipes for marinades, brines, etc etc. I have tried several recipes but none of them have "wow-ed" me. Overall I'd have to say the recipes give an average taste, but I have yet to discover anything spectacular in this book. There is quite a lot of information on what affects marinades, cures, rubs etc and how they work, which I found interesting and very informative.

Book Description
Compliance requirements are here to stay.
Prepare your company for the growing challenge.
A Wall Street Journal/Harris poll revealed that two thirds of investors express doubts in the ability of corporate boards of directors to provide effective oversight. In the shadow of recent global scandals involving businesses such as Parmalat and WorldCom, Manager's Guide to Compliance: Best Practices and Case Studies is essential reading for you, whether your organization is a major corporation or a small business.
This timely handbook places U.S. and global regulatory information, as well as critical compliance guidance, in an easy-to-access format and helps you make sense of all the complex issues connected with fraud and compliance.
"Wide perspectives and best practices combined deliver a punch that will knock your 'SOX' off! The author has blended together a critical mix necessary for effectively handling the requirements of SOX."
—Rob Nance, Publisher, AccountingWEB, Inc.
"Robust compliance and corporate governance is an absolute necessity in today's business environment. This new book by Anthony Tarantino is an authoritative guide to understanding and implementing compliance and regulatory requirements in the United States and around the world. From SOX to COSO to ERM, this book covers them all."
—Martin T. Biegelman, Certified Fraud Examiner, Fellow and Regent Emeritus of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and coauthor of Executive Roadmap to Fraud Prevention and Internal Control: Creating a Culture of Compliance
"If compliance wasn't difficult enough, now companies are faced with a barrage of technology vendors claiming to automate compliance as if it were a project. In his new book, Dr. Tarantino paints the reality of the situation: companies need to embrace the broader tenets of governance and use technology to embed governance policies and controls into their daily business processes. Only then can they gain business value from their compliance investments."
—Chris Capdevila, CEO and cofounder, LogicalApps

Prior to reading this book I knew almost nothing about compliance. The book is well written and easy to understand for anyone that has formal accounting education. The book provided a tremendous amount of insight, and was very practical. The book has helped out at work tremendously.
Most Helpful for My Accounting and Auditing Groups.......2006-04-29
As the CFO of a privately held company looking to go public in the next few years this is what we needed to focus our compliance and governance programs.
Essential Reading for My US and Chinese Businesses.......2006-04-29
Dr. Tarantino's book was exactly what I needed to understand the many regulations facing my businesses in the US and China. It will be required reading for my various managers and directors.

A detailed coverage on subject of smart card manufacturing and technical challenges of the process. Probably the only reference to complex process of manufacturing and its challenges. The technical aspect well covered with good in depth illustrations. A must for engineers dealing with dual and tri-interface cards to understand the manufacturing details.

"I'm an American baby, our names don't mean s***".......2007-09-07
This is the original screenplay of 1994's top movie, Pulp Fiction. If you haven't seen this flick, do so. Right now. Afterwards, buy this trade paperback and relive all the high points of the film. The stories are great, the characters leap from the pages, and the dialogue is tight and witty. It's $12.95 well spent, if only so you can deliver all the cool lines at parties. My favorite bit of dialogue involves Butch, a boxer, and Esmerelda, a cab driver.
Butch: ...Esmarelda Villalobos--is that Mexican?
Esmerelda: The name is Spanish, but I'm Colombian.
B: It's a very pretty name.
E: It means "Esmerelda of the wolves."
B: That's one hell of a name you got there, sister.
E: Thank you. And what is your name?
B: Butch.
E: Butch. What does it mean?
B: I'm an American, baby, our names don't mean s***.
one of the best fiction movies ever .......2006-01-13
the reason i like this movie is because it has alot of big name actors of the 90s samuel l. jackson, john t, bruce willis, ving rhames, uma thurman, and tim roth i enjoyed when uma thurman got high and was listening 2 some cool music n her house 2 celebrate her and john winning the dancing contest at the restuarnat this movie made me respect samuel jackson more because like denzel most of his movies are outspoken characters in this movie he plays a religious guy who has strong belief in Jesus Christ so with that he tells his partner john during their conversation at a classy restuarant that he is going to retire and walked da earth and john told him he was crazy because da people that walked da earth are known as bums which was kind of funny 2 me and bruce willis breaking on his adorable wife was also funny when he got very mad at her for leaving his father valuable watch at the hotel he had 2 go back and get it and got into so trouble on his way there pulp fiction slightly turned into die hard because bruce was all bloodly up like he was in all of his die hard films ving rhames was the king in this film but later he was raped by a gay guy but bruce saved him and he told bruce that this was between them there was some other scenes but the scenes that i mentioned all my favorite parts of the movie
Reads like a book; very addictive. Great dialogue........2004-07-08
PULP FICTION, the film, is one of my favorites, and I own both the DVD and the screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Now, as with most things, since Quentin has become ultra-popular, it's suddenly become "cool" to dislike him and his movies (particularly FICTION). Quoting Dave Thomas (SCTV), "Let's get down to the nitty gritty here": Whether or not you like the film, Quentin DOES have a knack for superb dialogue, and here is proof.
Recommended on all levels - one of my hobbies is scriptwriting and this is a definite inspiration as it was written by a man-child who never took a single screenwriting course. He just did it, and that's always been my own strategy when it comes to these things.
I Love the Movie,I Love the Screenplay!.......2004-01-11
I've already written a review for the movie which I gave five stars and now i'm giving the same to the screenplay. The scrrenplay had all of the same things the movie had and some stuff that was left on the cutting room floor in the final cut of the movie, but the screenplay is always good to read to see the way the story was told and then put on film. For example, the Marcellus and Zed scene when you see it you are utterly disgusted and strangely mesmerized at the same time and when you read that part in the screenplay the way Quentin Tarantino wrote and explained the scene was magnificent although I try to skip that entire scene while watching the DVD.Quentin Tarantino is not
only a great director but he is also the definitive screenwriter
and Pulp Fiction proves that the man can write.
"Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.".......2002-08-16
I found reading this screenplay just as enjoyable as watching the movie. Quentin Tarantino is a very gifted and talented writer, as well as a story teller. He has created some of the most memorable characters ever to come out of fiction.
This is a great read because what is most praised about the movie is the realistic and clever dialogue. That's all you get when you read this, which means you will have it read in no time. And as soon as you are done, you will want to read it again.
The book also offers some b&w pictures from the movie. It also contains little, not major, things that either didn't make the movie or were changed. But I really found it very similar to the movie. All of the most memorable lines are in here.
I recommend the screenplay to "Pulp Fiction" to anyone who is a fan of the movie, or is just a fan of reading screenplays in general. I really did enjoy reading this. Hopefully I will be able to find more screenplays to some of my favorite movies. I don't think this will be a purchase that you will regret. Check it out!

Customer Reviews:
Misleading Title.......2007-04-28
If you're looking for a book about digital fashion photography this is NOT the book. If you're looking for a book about the fashion photography business this IS the book. I was so disappointed when I received this. The book is filled with beautiful fashion shots but not a single word about how any of these photographs were achieved. If you want to learn to be a fashion photographer I'd suggest Jennifer Bidner & Eric Bean's "The Lighting Cookbook for Fashion and Beauty Photography," Cathy Joseph's " Outdoor Lighting: Fashion & Glamour," or Roger Hicks & Frances Shultz's "Photographing People: Portraits, Fashion, Glamour."
Don't get seduced........2006-08-19
This is a goregeous book. There are pages and pages of full page pics of scantilly or seductively clad models.
On the other hand the rest of the "technical" info could have fit on about 20 pages -- the rest are pics showing off the author's portfolio and to seduce the --probably-- most male reader.
The authors does show some of his camera toys, but says little about setting things up or exposure info etc.
Informative for Advanced Photographers interested in Fashion.......2006-08-16
Finally, a book containing actual fashion compaigns shot in the right decade and not a single lighting diagram in sight! This book appears to have polarised reviewers -- some love it because it allows advanced photographers to tune their techniques toward fashion and doesn't assume the reader is a beginner, and others hate it because they are beginners and need a lot more handholding. The whole premise of the book is to describe the basics and then practice and experiment. Some reviewers ask for more detail but if the authors described every image, the book would be 1000 pages long.
Overall, if you can't work out what F5.6 at 10 feet, ISO100 with two Elinchroms with Octadomes and a ring flash with a soft diffuser mean, or worse, you can't afford at least a Canon 1Ds Mark II or Nikon D2x and the aforementioned lighting, then buy another book.
Ken Tan's discussion in this book is also useful for photographers who want to know how to break in to the business by building relationships with clients, models and a team of stylists. The author at the start of the book clearly flags that actually being able to take good photos is only a fraction of the digital fashion photography game.
And for all non-male and non-middle aged readers, Dan Howel's shots in the book are actually quite tacky and barely qualify as fashion photographs. Perhaps the authors should consider doing a separate book for "glamour".
Not worth the paper.............2006-07-05
This book is not worth the paper printed on. It did not feature diagrams to lighting setups. was very broad and too simplistic.Beautiful photographs, but no analyzation or break down on how the photos were done. Lacking in description of technique and know how. If you want to look at beautiful photographs and have a another coffee table book of photographs...buy this. other wise don't throw good hard earned money away.
A little disappointed..........2006-02-17
I had great expectations to this book. Maybe they were too high. It's a nice book with lots of info, but the writer could have gone a lot further in filling out the blanks. I feel he's just scratching the surface most of the time. The info and pictures are good, but it's just like he's teasing the reader, because he stops right at the point where you only want more - and haven't got much. A lot of very important information is only just mentioned without any further explanation or diagrams or whatever. I read this from cover to cover, and every second of it I told myself that "this is the point where he really digs in"... But alas, no.....
Book Description
David Carradine is Bill—the complex, charismatic master assassin from the critically acclaimed, monstrously successful Kill Bill films. Throughout the filming of Quentin Tarantino's brilliant, violent epic, Carradine kept a daily diary—capturing all the action, the genius, the madness, and the magic that combined to make a masterpiece. More than simply an insider's close-up look at the filmmaking process and the astonishing cast and crew—director Tarantino, star Uma Thurman, and all the other artists whose extraordinary skills helped create something glorious—The Kill Bill Diary illuminates the fine points of the serious actor's craft, as a truly unique talent takes us along with him on a quirky, breathtaking, no-holds-barred, and altogether miraculous journey. It is a must-own volume for anyone who loves the movies.
Customer Reviews:
Carradine is king!.......2007-07-19
A must have for tarantino fans. More insight into making of Kill Bill. Magnificent reading!
A minor gem underneath the autograph.......2007-05-21
Before Tarantino, David Carradine was--and I'm quoting here, so don't think I'm dissing--a "cult actor who couldn't get work". As I imagine this sums up many opinions, the reader can forgive much from Carradine's production diary. And there's much to forgive, but it's always fun. Carradine's an engaging writer: parts puffy testosterone and lowly gratitude, arrogance and wide-eyed observer. He's everything you'd think (or fear), but never, ever pompous. And the star of the book--the superhero who comes off looking like a mutant crusader for film--is the ever-enthusiastic Tarantino. No wonder the cover quotes Quentin as saying--or yelling--, "I LOVED it!"
Carradine raps on everything--Thurman and Hannah's beauty, the weirdness of China, even Einstein: "Someone once asked Einstein if the universe was infinite. And he said, 'No. But it's ALMOST infinite.' Albert was one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time; I mean, look at his hair. He had to know that was funny. And I think the mustache was camouflage, to hide the secret smile."
Carradine takes the reader to production meetings, through fabulous sets, and out of snaffus that boggle the organized mind. Tarantino chucks out whole scenes, changes plot mid-stream, and coaxes grand performances out of everyone with a winning smile and hyperactive energy. I'd dearly like to know him, and now feel that I do.
Sure this book is mostly fluff, but underneath the glitz, we glimpse the sobering life of an aging minor (if cultic) star, and the gratitude with which he receives a second career. I actually held my breath at Carradine's bravery--one whole chapter is dedicated to a nightmare variation to the naked in class-taking the test you forgot in the course you never attended--dream, but on the set, his elusive script forever out of reach. The anxiety expressed here, the fear that something could go wrong with his comeback, is a universal fear anyone past the age of 30 can relate to, and I thought it was human of him to express it. Well, after all, it is a diary of sorts!
I found this book enjoyable, and a lot more thought-provoking--and fun--than I feared it would be. I hope he writes more.
It's not bad, it's just very light..........2007-04-19
The Kill Bill Diary is sort of a hard book to review. I ended up giving it four stars because it's well written and engaging, but unfortunately very light. Carradine has done a wonderful job of chronicling his time spent working on the film, as well as shedding some light on both his process as an actor and what it's like as an actor to deal with studios such as Miramax (now the Weinstein Company), but the book tends to be a little off balance if only because it's so guarded. Carradine's prose is very interesting and comfortable, and the book reads very quickly, though in a very nice conversational way.
There is something to be desired in its Diary approach as the book struggles in this style choice, shifting between some all too expedited daily synopses to some almost uncomfortably personal correspondences (in particular a couple of gushing letters to Tarantino) with not much middle ground in between. Though at times Carradine's voice borders on arrogance (and with his lengthy body of work and his iconic rock star status after Kung Fu, who can blame him), he can just as easily come across as the most humble man on earth, so overall the POV of his experiences on the film come off almost pretty well balanced. At the end of the day though it's not as personal as one would think a "diary" would be, and because it tends towards skirting details it feels like he's holding back. Don't get me wrong, I think the book is very honest, and Carradine has a very positive outlook (I'm not expecting him to dish dirt or anything), but because he tends to hold back a little (either guardedly leaving out names or not really getting into detail) it reads a little flat or more like a blog instead of a book.
My biggest gripe with the book though is in its marketing. The back cover blurb makes the book out to be a "making-of" on the Kill Bill film when honestly it's really only about Carradine's time on the set which amounts to about a fourth of the film.
If you're looking for some light, behind the scenes reading on the film industry, this book is great, but if you are looking for "...an insider's close-up look at the film-making process and the astonishing cast and crew, ...the fine points of the actor's craft, ...[and a] breathtaking, no-holds-barred ... miraculous journey" (taken from the back cover) then you might be a little disappointed.
kill bill diary.......2007-03-10
i found the book very interesting . i would have to add that i am a huge Tarantino fan who loved kill Bill so im probally pretty biased on this one .
Diary of a Film Masterpiece.......2007-02-23
I finally finished this and I'm sad it's over. I can't call it 5-star worthy, because there are obvious flaws, but anyone who would take the time to read this, probably won't care about it. (If you hated the film why on earth would you read the book, right?).
This is actually NOT Carradine's first book (see Endless Highway, which is unfortunately out of print) and since I just started reading it, I can't say which I prefer, but Carradine's friendly narrative is what draws you in and keeps you reading even when the story flags. Like any journal there are some bits that maybe we could have lived without (much to much family stuff, but hey they sound great, so why not go on and on about them?) and of course his experience on Kill Bill was limited to the time he was involved.
This is certainly NOT a complete Making of Kill Bill. It's budget prohibited David being on the set except when he was needed so there are definite gaps in the "movie" story. This is more than made up for with Carradine's letters to Tarantino, dozens of "insider" details about his time on the set, his hope that this will revitalize his career and much more. Carradine is a fascianting dude. This more than comes across in the story!
The one thing I kept thinking throughout the story and even more so now as I see a cheesy tv commercial featuring Carradine, is that unlike John Travolta, Kill Bill did NOT revitalize Carradine's career in the same way. He has been in very little of note since he made Kill Bill. I'm glad he's working, but what happen to the "Tarantino Revitalization"?
This is a somewhat sad footnote to the story that leaves me curious. Bill "was" a career making performance and role. Perhaps it is a continuation of the industry's slight of the film (no Oscar nominations, mixed reviews, no respect, darn it). Very little was made of Uma Thurman's brilliant performance (even more of an Oscar slight in years when very few female performances were Oscar-worthy). Is the industry jealous of Tarantino? Was this there chance to exact a little revenge on the bad boy outsider?
But I'll get off my tangent for now (it was afterall inspired by Carradine's optimism). To sum up: Read It! It's fun. It's gossipy. It's insightful. It's never boring! Some great color photos round out the text. Let's hope that Carradine is still acting and writing for some time. Thanks to Tarantino for making it all possible. And how about reprinting "Endless Highway" someone, anyone?

Book Description
Quentin Tarantino's films have single-handedly revived and redefined American noir, bringing to Hollywood a new energy, irony, and cool. Tarantino has won awards and accolades around the world, earned a devoted following among critics, actors, and audiences, and paved the way for a new generation of young filmmakers. Tarantino's directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs, hit the screen with a freshness and brutal edge that left critics and audiences stunned. The story of a heist gone wrong, the film weaves a taut and menacing path, laced with bursts of absurd and unexpected humor, as an eccentric cast of urban outlaws attempts to identify the rat in their midst. The film established the groundbreaking aesthetic -- smart-ass, hard-edged, and ultravoilent -- that made Tarantino one of the most sought-after directors in the nation. As Newsweek wrote, "Reservoir Dogs leaves little doubt that you are in the presence of major league talent."

"If you kill that man, you die next.".......2002-09-10
"Reservoir Dogs" is one of my favorite movies. Just the acting, the writing, the mood, the setting, the characters....just everything about it I loved! After reading the screenplay for "Pulp Fiction," I decided to pick this up. "Reservoir Dogs: The Screenplay" is a must-have for any "Reservoir" fan.
Tarantino's writing is so clever and realistic. These people talk like real people! If you see movies about criminals, they're always talking about the heist, how big and bad they are, and what they would do if the cops would try to take them down. Have you ever heard a criminal trying to explain the orgin of Madonna's "Like a Virgin?" Have you heard a criminal explain why he doesn't believe in tipping? Or, have you ever seen a criminal dance to the song "Stuck in the Middle with You?" just before brutally torturing a cop? Of course not! That's why the material works and is so original. We actually believe these characters created out of fiction are real. And that's what's so great about it.
Here's a quick description of the story: Things go horribly wrong when perfect strangers plan to pull off the perfect caper. As it turns out, they were set up...but by who? Now, they must uncover the rat in the house before the cops are able to get them. In a crime/noir where no one is safe and everyone fears each other, ANYTHING is possible.
The book includes photos from the movie, as well as things that were either cut out from the movie or added in later. Pretty cool, if you ask me. That way, it's like you're experiencing it for the very first time.
Tarantino is a master when it comes to writing and directing. If you loved the movie, then you are bound to enjoy "Reservoir Dogs: The Screenplay," filled with humor, suprises, and a shocking conclusion.
Strikingly original and well told........2000-09-22
This maximum script by Oscar-winning writer Quentin Tarantino offers a vivid portrait of the finished film, even if you haven't seen it! This is a brilliant scenario, with an informal introduction to boot, but it Tarantino's style of writing and his management of characters that makes it click. Enjoy.
Clever. Very Clever.......1999-10-18
Tarantino has picked up a metaphorical batton where Scorcese left, and used stimulating dialogue and complex storyline, with a feel good vibe at the end with a post sex 'Wow! That was great'. Tarantino's obsession with making crime more stimulating through black culture and drugs helped move this moveie along. Keitel was great, Roth was good. Not as great as Pulp Fiction, but you can see the stems of his talent in this movie, better than in True Romance.
QUENTIN-SENTIAL SCREENPLAYS.......1999-07-06
Ah yes...Tarantino's first script entitled True Romance which he sold for 30,000 dollars is a genius effort of great proportion and the writing, you will notice in subsequent films and scripts,is common for him. Certain terms will show up later on in other movies. And as for Reservoir Dogs, his second greatest film ever,he used the money from True Romance's script to make this ingenius mob classic complete with terms used in his other films including one or two from True Romance.

Book Description
Natural Born Killers is a disturbing and brilliant indictment of violence in the media and American celebrity culture. Mickey and Mallory Knox, outlaw lovers on the run, go on a killing spree of startling viciousness -- and find themselves transformed into cult celebrities by the tabloid media. The film, directed by Oliver Stone, departed significantly from Tarantino's original screenplay, so much so that Tarantino removed his name from the screenplay credits. Now available in America for the first time, the original screenplay offers fans and film buffs of all stripes the opportunity to compare Tarantino's original vision with Stone's version of the story of Mickey and Mallory.

Tight, tight, tight: much better than the movie.......2005-10-04
I've always wondered why people read plays but not movie scripts, and after reading "Natural Born Killers," I wonder that even more.
This is a great script for a movie that could have been excellent if Quentin Tarantino, the script's author, had directed the movie himself. I don't know WHAT Oliver Stone was trying to do.
The script, in case you don't know, is the story of a husband and wife with an insane past that go on a love-fuelled, almost invincible killing rampage across the country. Their crimes are senseless and random, and the media (and the public) LOVES them. It's the bizarre story of their killing sprees, their romance, their capture, and their escape, and...well, I don't want to give too much away.
The script follows an incredibly cool format, of being mostly an hour-long TV special about the two killers, intertwined with the people making the TV special and interviewing the killers themselves, intertwined with flashbacks.
It could have been an amazing movie, but instead we got a weird, cartoonish mess that exudes barely any of the well-developed themes, tight action, and believable characters (individuals and mobs) that Quentin Tarantino actually wrote.
Read the script, and skip the movie--that's what I say. Read the script, and hope that maybe someday Tarantino will remake the movie himself, the right way, the way it should have been.
"Natural Born Killers" Original Screenplay Review.......2005-07-18
There are people who seem to either enjoy Stone's movie and hate Quentin's screenplay or vice versa. Fact is I enjoyed both. Quentin Tarantino's original screenplay for "Natural Born Killers" is far different from the nightmarish acid trap that it became once Oliver Stone got his hands on it. Stone's film is far more epic and sadistic though Quentin's version isn't exactly a day at Disney World either. Much of Quentin's work is used in the film version though the way the story is told is so completely different than it was clearly conceived. The opening diner sequence is nearly the exact same as presented in the film though this is really the only one of Mickey and Mallory's murder spree sequences that Quentin intended to include (aside from the court room murder which was "deleted" from Stone's cut). Following that, the script takes a much different approach with it being told almost entirely in a documentary style with Wayne Gale (played in the film by Robert Downey) acting as the central character. Jack Scagnetti, who was a sadistic crooked cop in Stone's "NBK", is far less brutal in this one and is not positioned as a longtime rival of the murderous couple but more as a veteran cop being sold into hauling the two killers to the asylum. While the character of Dewight McClusky (played by Tommy Lee Jones in the movie) was a character in this script as well, his role is decreased and most of his action was written for a character named Wurlitzer, who didn't make Stone's version. The majority of the first half of the filmed "Killers" was not a part of the original Tarantino story and most of the social commentary was also absent. If you're a Tarantino fan or someone who would like a different take on the "NBK" story, this is an intruiging read.
Sometimes it can drag, but this is a great script........2004-06-18
I rented the movie directed by Oliver Stone due to the fact that Quentin Tarantino's name was on the story credits and I knew that Oliver Stone among others had messed with his script and Tarantino had removed his name from the screenwriting credits but I wanted to see it anyways.I thought the movie sucked,I hated it.So I bought the original script to see how the movie could've been and this is a great script. There's no mention of how the cinematography should look. There's no sexually abusive sitcom father, nor indian guy. This is how the film should have been. The movie is virtually just a big TV special by Wayne Gale who was played in the movie by Robert Downey Jr. The story is amazingly different. The opening scene is the same though. The story is basically Mickey and Mallory Knox in jail while Mickey is being interviewed by Wayne Gale. That's it.Buy this script.Burn the movie.Enjoy
NATURAL BORN BORING.......2004-04-23
A man who has not lived a life cannot tell a real story. Tarentino's films are universally and fundamentally boring for anyone who has ever lived a real life and not just fantasized about having one. His dipictions of violence eminate from his own personal lack of sexual energy. Sadly, teenage males without girlfriends seem to like these slammed together video games that are being called brilliant, and continue to support the trash factory that generates this type of hyper garbage. It's especially sad when a true film afficienado understands the brilliance of all of the original pictures which he doggedly ripped off and claimed the scenes for his own. If one more person calls this sad, pathetic, lack of a man a genious, I will become even more sick of him. Please get a life and buy a real movie.
Incredibly disappointing.......2002-09-16
This is, quite frankly, one of the most boring scripts I have ever read. The only reason I finished it was that I was such a huge fan of the movie. It is vastly inferior to Oliver Stone's version of the film, and far from portraying the charatcters as "monsters," it portrays them as two-dimensional cartoons. There is no development for any of these characters, and there is no reason given that Mickey and Mallory would even care about each other. Their relationship isn't even really hinted at. One of the truly great things about Stone's film was the way that Mickey and Mallory were portrayed in the middle, from when they actually were married to when they were finally arrested, especially in the scene with the Indian. Tarantino's script lacks any subtlety, contrary to what another reviewer stated. What Oliver Stone created from this script was a mesmerizing film about thhe allure and addiction to violence in our culture. What Tarantino envisioned was a juvenile mishmash of unappealing characters without even a reason to exist. (What the Hell was the point of Wayne Gale's assistant having no tongue?) Anyway, I hope that Tarantino continues to move on from this very amateur script, and never tries to make his own version, as I'm sure he won't. I hope he at least realizes that this script was NOT that good.
