Excellent product condition! No problems with seller - very straightforward purchase and will buy again!!

3 out of 5 stars Decent, but had a lot of fluff.......2007-08-29

For me this book was required for a class. I guess it wasn't bad but I felt like I had to pick through all their example stories to find any of the real content. So much was case studies of one child or another. And most of the case studies were in themselves mostly fluff.

5 out of 5 stars Packed with usefull information.......2007-02-18

I found this book very engaging, the topics were interesting and the graphics were very appropriate. I really liked how every other page had an interesting question that you could apply to everyday life and you got the answer in 2 pages. I would skip ahead to find out the answer. But after my developmental psychology class was over i wanted to keep this book. i love it.

Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

3 out of 5 stars Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars A good overview about how to write in biomedical research.......2007-03-09

A good book for beginers, clear and easy to read.

5 out of 5 stars good book for those writing their dissertation and other papers.......2007-01-04

we used this book as part of a class i was taking. i am so glad that the professor picked this one out!
the beginning of the book gives you the building blocks, and the later chapters help you put it all together. i realized that a lot of people who help you with proofreading don't really look for some of the organizational items that the author stresses.
i reccommend this book for any graduate student, as well as anyone else who is looking to improve their writing. it might also be a good tool for mentors to use to work with their students.

5 out of 5 stars Great ! .......2006-08-21

My close friend who is one of the nicest person I ever met, recommended me this book. Upon opening the first chapter, I already know that this book is amazing. My writing improves a lot. If you are an international student like me, you might also have hard time on writing as well. I guaranteed that this book is really invaluable.

5 out of 5 stars Very good book, examples used bit too technical.......2005-10-21

Very good book for beginners and experienced researchers! I haven't come across any other book that actually describes how you should write a biomedical paper. The only critique is that the examples used are too technical for non-biomedical researchers, this makes it hard to understand the examples. But even if you do not have a biomedical background you will learn a lot from this book.

5 out of 5 stars Authoritative.......2003-11-12

Authoritative guide on how to write. I have never seen a more comprehensive book on how to write clearly and write well. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Even non-scientists should read this. (Having said that, though, scientists IN PARTICULAR should read this - hint, hint.)

5 out of 5 stars Portraits of marriage.......2002-10-18

On Valentines Day 2002 the PBS in America featured a one-hour documentary examining the status of marriage and family. This is the companion volume to that film, featuring leading marriage and family experts along with the stories, testimonials and recollections of many ordinary Americans. Taken together it provides a fascinating and incisive portrait of the related issues of marriage, divorce, parenting and family in contemporary American life.

The book features a number of perspectives, including those who argue for gay marriage and easy divorce. But probably a majority of contributors recognise (academically or experientially) that marriage and family are troubled institutions today, and they are in need of help and support.

Many of the articles are quite good, from a pro-marriage and pro-family point of view. A number of experts more or less supporting such a view are featured, including David Blankenhorn, Wade Horn, Judith Wallerstein, David Popenoe, Linda Waite and William Galston.

Many of their insights alone are worth the price of the book. For example, Wade Horn's article on fatherhood is an important contribution, given all the problems we have in this area: "..."

And the well-documented evidence is quite clear: children are hurt by father absence. Indeed, children are hurt by divorce. And the hurt goes on for decades. Judith Wallerstein, who has studied children for three decades after their parent's divorce knows this all too well:

"..."

And marriage is what best protects children. As David Popenoe reminds us, "..."

David Blankenhorn reminds us that marriage is more than just a private relationship. It is also a public institution. Marriage effects not just the couple, but the in-laws, children, and society as a whole. And marriage has even more far-reaching importance:

"..."

And it is not just the conservatives who make such claims. Democratic Senator Joseph Lieberman from Connecticut, for example, is also aware of these truths: "..."

In addition to the experts, many of the testimonies from ordinary Americans also strongly make the case for marriage and the natural family. Some of the heartbreaking tales of the impact of divorce on children for example are worth recounting. One mother offers this perspective on how her four kids responded to their parents' divorce:

"..."

Other stories could be recounted. But as this book makes clear, marriage is still very important for the overwhelming majority of Americans. And the institution of marriage is being severely tested these days. This collection of articles, stories and essays shows that marriage is more than just a piece of paper.

5 out of 5 stars Engaging Accounts of the State of Marriage in America.......2002-08-15

This engaging read is a collection of complete transcripts of experts and "real people" interviewed for the PBS national broadcast of the same name. The program was seen in most markets on Valentine's Day 2002. There is a "Marriage--Just a Piece of Paper?" video that readers may want to seek out. The video video, narrated by television journalist Cokie Roberts, contains an extra half-hour of footage and should be required viewing in every church group, marriage preparation course, and high-school or university course on marriage and relationships in this country. The experts include a range of professionals--from academics, to judges, to therapists, to ministers, to United States senators from both political parties. The interviews with these experts along with those of men, women, and children and their "real life" experiences of family life today are all collected here. One particularly poignant interview with a dad in the process of divorcing, along with other accounts of fatherhood in the book, really opens the eyes to the important of fathers for families of and of families for fathers. Two of the Gen X women interviewed (and there are many Gen Xrs talking about the realities of dating, single life, and marriage today)--one a single mother and the other twice-divorced and dating--speak of their experiences with such humor and candor (and with such personalities in the accompanying video!) that they could be destined for sitcom stardom if they ever make it out to Hollywood. Read it straight through or interview by interview--but definitely read it and seek out the accompanying video if you want to understand the state of marriage and family today.

5 out of 5 stars WAY BEST!.......2007-09-22

This is by far the most useful book on decluttering I've read. It gets right down into your heart and helps you sort out what you find there. It doesn't tell you what products to buy, but helps you understand what blips in your brain chemistry or psychology may be contributing to the clutter problem, and suggests specific strategies for dealing with the various reasons.

5 out of 5 stars A different way to look at your stuff (clutter).......2007-02-05

As others have written,I too have read many, many, MANY clutter, organizing, packrat books. I still have so many, they have contributed to the clutter. This was one of the good ones. My problem is not organizing my stuff-- I want to get rid of it. Most books give you detailed file organizing and specific instructions. I wanted to know WHY I couldn't let go of so many things. This may not be everyone's problem, but it was mine. Once I understood why, it actually helped to get rid of them - not organize them.

2 out of 5 stars Childish, Simplistic, Boring.......2006-10-15

I bought this book hoping to discover psychologically why we keep too many things and how to change the behavior. Also some tips on keeping spaces "things" free. Instead what I found was over-simplified cliches about Gary Keepitall or Lisa Hummingbirdbrain (I swear these are actual names she gives people in the book). There is a LOT of repitition, and really, who needs to know that to keep track of your schedule you could get - guess what, bet you never heard of it! - a day planner! Really? I could?

I think most of us know what we could do to keep track of our things, what a good book about making peace with your things might be about is how to do it, how to motivate yourself to do it and how you can overcome the behaviors that keep you from doing it. The one or two studies Glovinsky quotes in the book appear to be all the education on the topic she has, other than that she simply reiterates common sense - like buy a container for your things! - that anyone smart enough to order a book from Amazon is probably smart enough to already know. Please skip this book - unless you truly don't know about day planners or plastic bins.

Kindergarten is just about to let out for the summer, and room 9 is going on a field trip to a farm. All the children squeal with joy--all but Junie B. Jones.
'Cause guess what? Farms are not my favorites.
Junie B. Jones, hilarious heroine of more than a dozen well-loved books, is mortally afraid of ponies. An imprudent babysitter once allowed her to watch a cable TV show called When Ponies Attack, so a trip to a farm seems like the ultimate in reckless endangerment. Never mind the roosters, which, according to her classmate, Meanie Jim, can peck your head to a nub. It takes some pretty fast talking by Junie's parents, teacher, and the farmer himself to get Junie to participate in the field trip, where she has a surprisingly good time. Until she bonds with Peep, a fluffy little chick, only to discover, to her horror, that Peep's destiny is to become a rooster.

Award-winning author Barbara Park has joined with illustrator Denise Brunkus to create a charmingly outrageous character with a precocious yet childish voice that readers will never forget: "After that my heart got very poundy inside. 'Cause I heard the sound of footprints, that's why." Brunkus's comical drawings of Junie and her friends are the "bestest" ever. Don't miss any of the laugh-out-loud titles in the Junie B. Jones series. (Ages 5 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description

The world's funniest kindergartner is back, in her 15th book!

It's almost the end of the school year, and Room Nine is taking a field trip to a farm! There's lots of fun farm stuff there. Like a real actual barn. And a real actual farmer. There's even real alive animals you can pet! Only, where's the gift shop? That's what Junie B. Jones would like to know. Surely no one would want Junie B. to go home empty-handed. . . .

5 out of 5 stars Am I missing something?.......2007-07-27

I have read nearly every Junie B. Jones book, and I am at loss as to what the big deal is. She is just an average 5 year old, who is unable to decipher right from wrong. She always learns why what she did wrong is wrong, and how to do right in the future. Her grammar is just what she thinks it should be. Are you going to sit a 5 year old down to teach them 7th grade grammar? Also, I think it's, to be blunt, idiotic to make such a fuss. If you dislike Junie B.'s behavior, don't buy the books. I see no need to complain to the publishers. Let 5 year olds be 5 year olds, and little girls be little girls. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Review by Shanice P.S. 39.......2006-05-07

School is ending! They're going on a trip to a farm and Junie thinks a rooster will peck her on the head. So Junie B. makes something up so she won't have to go, but she ends up going anyway. Will Junie ever stop being silly and learn rosters and ponies are harmless?

Kids who love funny stuff will love Junie B. Read the next book like Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus.

5 out of 5 stars My daughter loves these stories.......2006-03-18

I have purchased nearly all the books from the Junie B. Jones collection. My daughter enjoys listening to me read them to her. We originally got one book through scholastic book club through the school and I literally read that book to her over and over again. Having a good amount of the collection just makes it more diversified for me ~ and keeps me interested too.

The books are well written. A girl can identify with the subjects of the book and even though the books are long, they are not so long that 2 or 3 chapters a night doesn't complete the story in 3 nights.

I highly recommend the collection to anyone with a girl in the lower grades at school.

4 out of 5 stars i like it.......2005-12-28

THIS IS A FUNNY BOOK. I LIKED IT WHEN SHE SAID "PEEP TICKELED MY TUMMY AFTER I HIDED HIM IN MY POCKET." I ALSO LIKED IT WHEN SHE PRETENDED TO BE A BULL AND BUCK JIM!

1 out of 5 stars by jacey aged 12.......2004-08-03

I would like to express that Junie B. Jones's poor grammar sets a bad example to children. Inaccurate grammar is no substitute for a good, funny piece of literature. I cannot believe that a publisher would accept such books. Junie b jones also gets away with bad behavior too often. And she says balderdash like, "I runned all around" and "my bestest friend". I don't like the idea of children being exposed to improper English.

The Puppy Papers is an instant classic in its genre. While the "Story of O" and the "Beauty Series" are fantasy, The Puppy Papers is reality.

There is no other book or story that captures so well the honest and real quest of a women's search for her Master in the alternate world of the BDSM lifestyle. The Puppy Papers is an interesting, well-constructed story geared towards the adventurous woman, the vanguard reader, and those thirsting for a story on the cutting edge of sexuality.

5 out of 5 stars Life story.......2006-10-10

This book was great. It offers insight into her thought processes and how she learns. I had my sub read this book so she could get an idea of what the lifestyle is like. She came away with things she liked and didn't like about it. So it was great book for her to understand the joys of bdsm and also express some of her concerns. Great book and should be in any BDSM bedroom library.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic, real read!.......2006-09-01

Fantastic read!

5 out of 5 stars I'm Looking for My Puppy .......2006-07-06

I purchased this book on the recommendation from a friend of mine. Most books about BDSM are "How To" or fantasy books, the puppy papers wasn't either. The puppy papers was a fascinating book, it took me a while to realize that this book was non fiction. To confirm this I went onto the Internet to see if this Steven person was real, he certainly is, which made this book that much better. Also there are references to nationally known people in the BDSM community who Steven is friends with. Another thing about this book is that it does not have flowery descriptive words or phrases, it is written in the moment in letter conversation form. Their conversations are about life, their relationship, puppy's work, family, even when her husband accuses her of having relationship with another man, her past play partners and Master, her need to be with Steven, her need to serve and a lot of kink.

I was surprised when the story took a turn when Steven started to ask puppy questions about her life and told her that he may be putting a book together from their emails. At this point, Steven becomes an interviewer and puppy continues to reveals open and honestly all aspects of her life. I haven't found a woman that is this comfortable with herself, that can speak so openly about her life, as for myself I don't know if I can be so open and honest about myself either.

I was fascinated by puppy's letters answering Steven questions and that they don't always follow the normal pattern of conversation, but life doesn't always flow smoothly. In one of the letters she brings up about playing doctor/patient with her girl friends, describing how girls learn about their body, I was surprised to say the lest, this is a subject that is never discussed. When asking about her first BDSM awakening, experience which took place in a Hotel room with a stranger, you can take safe and sane and throw that out the window. I found puppy a very erotic kinky masochist who is very devoted to her Dominant and open to all types of play.

The progression of their relationship from Top/bottom to Dominant/submissive is evident in how puppy address's Steven, I found that very interesting. I do wish that there was more about Steven in the last part of the book, he took a back seat to puppy's story which was a good thing, but so is he. In researching Stevens life on the Internet I found it fascinating that he is in the adult porn sex business and his involvement with the police and federal government. I wanted more of him in the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Puppy Papers, Puppy writes very well in the moment and has a wonderful sense of humor. If their relationship lasts and evolves I want to read about it, they certainly do have an interesting life.

By the way, the title has nothing to do with puppy play, this book is about puppy's life in her letters. For myself, I have been involved in the BDSM for many years.

4 out of 5 stars Puppy Papers.......2004-11-02

I couldn't decide whether to call this book a biography or an autobiography. It is through a series of emails, over a period of six months, in which Steven Toushin asks puppy sharon probing questions about her past and her understanding of sexuality (in particular hers) that sharon's story comes out but it is through her writings that we get to know her. It could be thought of as an interview as well. Perhaps structurally it is a hybrid. Personally, I like that I can't easily classify this book. It allows it to function as all of the above and creates the ability to enter the material in a variety of ways.

Conceptually it is interesting to find myself (as the reader) participating as voyeur in the budding relationship between Toushin and puppy. To observe as she slowly opens up revealing a fascinating sexual life from childhood to the present. Steven stays out of the way, revealing very little about himself, creating plenty of room for her to divulge her sexual awakenings. The correspondence between the two plays out much like life. There are the mundane emails, the "how are you. I'm fine" aspects, but tucked in between those are treasures of information. Some of which most women growing up in rural and suburban middle America will surely recognize and others that are truly unique to sharon; her openness to exploration reveals a woman self-possessed enough not to be bogged down in the guilt and shame of a slow but maturing understanding of her sexual desires and needs.

sharon's descriptions of her introduction to the BDSM world are absorbing, typically awkward, and sometimes funny as she talks about the pitfalls, as well as the satisfying encounters. Her point-of-view is adventurous and sometimes reveals a naiveté that is inevitable when entering a new world of experience. It is encouraging for those new to this sexual realm to read from a woman's point-of-view who remains intact despite unsuccessful experiences. A woman who handles the situations with calmness, self-possession and a sense of humor not allowing others to defeat or discourage her from continuing her quest to find sexual satisfaction. She seems to know this is all a part of her sexual education, which she is clearly in charge of. It's refreshing to read a woman's story that does not revolve around exploitation.

For those like me, if you begin to become suspicious of who this Steven Toushin guy is (especially after sharon reveals stories about some of the creeps she's encountered) never fear. Check out the appendix. There is plenty of information about him there. Though I do wish he would have included more about himself within the context of the email exchanges I understand the attempt to stay out of the way of sharon's story. It is sometimes successful, sometimes not. There are times when I begin wondering more about who he is which becomes a distraction from sharon.

This book is open-ended leaving the reader with many questions, particularly regarding sharon and Steven's growing relationship. It's some of the most titillating aspects of the book and if you want arousing material then you'll be clamoring for more details regarding their intense sexual interactions. I smell a sequel, which I'd buy. My curiosity has been piqued. The reader is given enough information to keep interested but there is still plenty that is to be explored. Again it is a strategy that points to one of life's conundrums, the inability for one person to fully know another person's mind and the desire to probe their lives all the more intensely. It also reminds us that one cannot judge a person by the way they look. There are plenty of professionals, suburban mothers, and other "normal" everyday people who have interesting and even amazing hidden lives. Makes you what to stop and find out what lurks behind the façade of normalcy that so many exude. It's good to know there are people from all walks of life waking up sexually and being brave enough to follow their inner desires.

5 out of 5 stars Unique and Interesting Reading.......2004-09-11

It was bound to happen after more than a decade of email becoming mainstream and popular. Autobiographies and biographies are best sellers in America these days and there are increasing numbers of them focused on people who enjoy kinky sex. "The Puppy Papers" is a biography told through emails. It is not, however, really just the story of one woman. Through Puppy Sharon's emails we certainly do read about her life but also about the lives of the men and women she'd met. Most of these are rather clueless in terms of how to do kink safe, sane, and consensually, often letting their fantasies dictate where experience would be a better guide. Her story, however, is probably far more common in the kink community than most people realize. At least with her current dominant, the man who organized and encouraged her emails, she has found someone better and that should give hope to everyone.

3 out of 5 stars i know a lot of people liked this book but................2007-09-11

i just can't say i feel the same way. i keep it because i keep everything. but i'm not a simple scrapbooker so i find the book a bit bland in it's ideas and i was uninspired by the text.

5 out of 5 stars pure inspiration!.......2007-08-31

I love Stacy Julian's take on scrapbooking. Not everything has to be chronological!! This book has given me a freedom and renewed passion for this hobby and a reminder to look at the little things.

5 out of 5 stars Super, Super, Super!.......2007-08-10

Stacy Julian gives new meaning to scrapbooking. This book is SO easy to read and such fun. Each page is an example of how, what, and even why she scrapbooks. There are wonderful layouts and examples on every page. After reading her philosophies I thought to myself 'why didn't I think of that????' She is extremely creative and a great teacher. You will learn easy ways to document your life in a meaningful way (that isn't necessarily chronological.) This is the way that I will be scrapbooking from now on.....thanks Stacy!!

5 out of 5 stars This is revolutionary.......2007-06-30

Oh my goodness! This book is fantastic! It's time we move away from the Creative Memories philosophy and move towards a creative approach to scrapbooking. Not only does Stacy Julian introduce a new reason to scrapbook but I love her samples in the book. I loved that not all the pictures of herself make her look perfectly made up - how long have I been afraid to scrapbook less than perfect pictures of me? Seriously! I'm rarely photo-ready so why not scrapbook life as it really is. And life is certainly more than the each big holiday to Disneyland, or Christmas pageants. I have felt a lot more freedom to scrapbook whatever I feel and find pictures to match my story. Buy this book! You won't be sorry!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS BOOK!.......2007-06-21

I would give this more stars if I could! This book is teriffic! I have had and/or read COUNTLESS books on scrapbooking, and this is one of my two favorites! Stacy's method of scrapbooking is NOT about products or the latest trends or styles; it's about getting your photos and memories in albums. Her pages are simple and to the point -- YOU can embellish as much as you like. I don't care how many albums she has, as one reviewer criticized! She is just trying to help people NOT to feel overwhelmed with photos and scrapbooking. I wish that people would just NOT write reviews if a book is "not what [they] expected". If they feel 'deceived' by a book review or title, then I can understand it. I am so NOT like Stacy Julian, but I would like to be 1/2 that happy with life! She is so inspiring! Scrapbooking helps me appreciate my children -- see them in a different light -- in the midst of the chaos of raising them!! I love to browse through this book -- getting page ideas or just inspiration. It also has influenced how I take pictures, or should I say WHAT I take pictures OF! I highly recommend this book as well as Rebecca Sower's book "Scrapbooking Life's Little Treasures". If I only had these two books, I'd be happy. Their messages about scrapbooking and family are very powerful!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My favorite origami book so far.......2007-09-04

The finished models in this book are great, they are clearly identifiable species, not just generic fish, crabs, etc.
What really makes the book stand out, however, are the folding sequences. The steps flow with a natural rythm, and every tricky step is clearly explained. Because the authors have created unique bases for each model, the results of a given step are often pleasantly surprising.
I have a pile of origami books, and this is my favorite so far by a pretty wide margin. When I finish folding everything in it, I will probably fold them all again because they are so much fun.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful origami book.......2005-09-30

This superb book contains an enormous range of origami models representing various forms of sea life. These range from sea urchins and starfish through to the Blackdevil Angler Fish and the almost impossible to fold Chambered Nautilus Shell. I have in my time folded most of the models and my favourites include the Angler Fish, Goldfish and the Murex shell which is wonderful in a textured foil.

Most of the models will require some folding experience, even the easier ones and the most difficult ones like the Atlantic Purple Sea Urchin and Blackdevil Angler Fish are really for experts only, but most folders of intermediate level and upwards will find something to enjoy. It is definitely a book which will help you to develop your folding skills but be sure to have plenty of paper on hand!

Each section includes an interesting introduction to the natural history of the life forms it is covering and the book is well laid out with clear computerised diagrams. It's an origami book I've come back to again and again over the years and which remains one of my treasures. I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Not Impossible, but a Challenge.......2004-04-17

I've owned this book for a number of years and only recently have I been able to fold most of the creatures in it. This book is definitely not for greenhorns, but if you look closely at every single diagramme in the book, and interpret them exactly and are very careful, every model in the book is foldable. The end result is gorgeous paper sea creatures that can impress basically anyone--yourself included. I've been amazed at how beautiful the things I'm folding from this book turn out.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2004-04-03

This is one of my favorite Origami books ever. If you are thinking about getting it you should. This book will appeal to any body, from beginner to advanced. I love the models in this book. It contains various models of many genera and cover many of the marine phylums such as variety of gastropods, cephalodops, crustaceans, and many fish from Angler Fish to sharks to Sun fish.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2004-03-21

This book is well written with easy to understand diagrams. The models range from easy to extremly hard, but most of the animals are high intermediate. Most of the diagrams are so specialized that they can't make other models from the base, but the end result is an elegant model that isn't bulky like other models of this difficulty. I have most of Montroll's and Lang's work, and this is one of the best. The deep sea angler fish is my favorite with a full set of teeth. The binding is breaking apart because I've used it so much. Overall this is a book with the best models!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ancient but Postmodern Spiritual Development.......2007-02-05

In a world struggling with postmodern issues of diversity and truth Groeschel presents an orientation to our spiritual development that is relevant and worth engaging. Not only is our spiritual development inextricably tied to every other aspect of life and human development, each of our unique sets of experience set us up to hear God in various ways--through differing orientations: as One (unity), the Good, Truth or Beauty (not exclusive). Unlike so many books on spiritual development that cryptically elevate one spiritual orientation above another, Groeschel expands the psychological awareness of our own spiritual pilgrimage, while helping us to understand that each of us possess a spiritual orientation to God and Christ that is different but not superior to others.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent ideas, but somewhat lacking in development.......2000-11-04

Father Groeschel's presentation of ideas is sound and interesting, and the illustrations using incidents in the lives of people he has known a good approach. However, he tends to present some very intriguing concepts, then insufficiently develop them with clear explanations. For example, he refers to the Good Thief's conversation with Christ on the Cross as manipulative, but assumes the reader (who is unlikely to be a psychologist) will grasp why. The book is an excellent starting point, theologically solid and in accord with classic spirituality, but as a reader I found myself begging for more development and ideas about integration of the principles into one's own prayer life.

5 out of 5 stars VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING this book!.......2000-07-21

His pellucid explanations, on diverse topics (relevant to the spiritual life of everyone), have no rival in the English language. This book outlines the different stages of spiritual growth. Since the spirit, (in contrast to the soul) is discussed, it's relevant to people of any religious background, but, most especially understandable to Christians. His discussions are rich and stay closely focused on his topic.
